romanticize learning, not school
The education system (in the U.S. at least) sucks! School sucks!
High expectations get set on you and you exhaust yourself trying to achieve them
Often, it promotes unhealthy competition and causes you to compare yourself to other students, even though everyone has different skill sets and circumstances
Being neurodivergent makes it HELL
School doesn't DESERVE to be romanticized. Burnout sucks. You're not going "above and beyond," you're trying to push yourself into unbreathable altitudes.
Rather, consider romanticizing learning:
Researching because gaining knowledge is fun, you like how it feels to understand the world around you
Teaching because you want to spread that knowledge to others
Finding your own engaging methods
Giving yourself control. Learning because you want to.

Today I have informed 4 colleagues how they can take off a couple of days with full pay for learning a new thing by attending a course or class without using any of their regular holidays. Because in Germany, you are legally entitled 5 days for that per year.
In other news, I'll be learning sign language soon 🙂

Hello hellsite. Call me Laeta, here among friends Romans and countrybeings. Pronouns are usually she/her, I live in the USA, I am a Millennial, I speak English and Italian, and I am currently diving back into a lifelong fascination with the ancient and medieval world by way of independent study.
I am currently, in what passes for my spare time, studying Dante and the foundations of Italian literature, attempting to learn Latin (heeeeeelp) and get a basic grounding in the Greek and Roman classics, and accidentally becoming a very bad stilnovist poet. I am playing with the idea of applying for grad school (MA not PhD) at some point in the next year or three. Ideally in the future i would like to be some form of teacher or curator, involved in bringing history and literature to people (adults or kids) and sparking their interest in it. I am also already the exact same age Dante was when he went to hell for the first time, so it’s all a big pipe dream and i’ll most likely be waiting tables and doing data entry for the rest of my life, but what does a person do on Tumblr except daydream.

*Kakuzu, giving math word problems to Hidan*
Kakuzu: Okay, now; say I want to buy a sweater. The sweater costs $50. I manage to talk the store owner into giving me a 25% discount. How much is the discount, and how much do I end up paying for the sweater?
Hidan: *brow furrowed, writing it down on paper*
Hidan, out-loud: A 25% discount of $50 is $12.50. So you minus $12.50 from the original price of $50, and you pay … $37.50?
Kakuzu: Very good. Alright, now what if I find a tear in the sweater, and convince him to give me another 5% discount? What am I paying then?
Hidan: You’re … paying …5% of $37.50 is about $1.87. So minus that from $37.50 and you pay … about $35.63, maybe round it up to $35.65.
Kakuzu: Very, very good, Hidan. You’re getting so good with numbers.
Hidan: Yeah, but, I still need a fucking piece of paper to figure stuff out. You do everything in your head …
Kakuzu: Hidan. You went from having trouble with simple addition and subtraction to calculating percentages. Not only that but your reading has picked up so much …
Kakuzu: *hugs Hidan* I am so, so proud of you, brat.
Hidan, blushing: T-thanks, old man. Hey, how about a reward? Like, you buy me a new blade for my scythe?
Kakuzu: A blade for your scythe? The cheapest ones are like $200!
Hidan, writing on the paper again: Actually, that one weapons shop up the road is having a sale this weekend: 60% off a purchase of $300 or more. If you buy me two new blades, at $400 total, then your discount will be … $240. Minus that from $400, and you’d only be paying … $160. That’s $40 cheaper than it’d be for one!
Hidan, grabbing Kakuzu’s hand and pulling him towards the door: Shit, you’re right; math IS fun! Come on!
Kakuzu, sighing as he grabs his wallet: I think I’ve made a mistake …
This is for you, @ama-tera 😊

Trying my hand at making dice. These are right after they came out of the dice molds. The first set (pink) I didn't use enough resin so some didn't turn out all the way (the d20 is half complete). I used the correct amount of resin for the second set (blue) so they actually came out looking like dice. Gotta finish the blue set but these aren't that bad for my first ever time making dice. Excited to keep trying and hopefully they'll keep getting better!

HOLY SQUEAK I JUST LEARNED SOMETHING AND I NEED TO SHARE—
So, we all know about bears, right? Big, hairy, gay men? Classic. Love them. Appreciate them. I may be mostly gay myself, but I still enjoy a little bear/twink smut for the culture, y’know? HOWEVER!!! Just the other day, I have been enlightened by the most adorable fact—
The female equivalent of a bear is called an Ursula.
Like. Ursula. Big, strong, fluffy, powerful women??? Named after the Latin word for bear??? It’s giving “hot leather-clad butch who could suplex you and then make you soup” and I am OBSESSED. This is the cutest fucking thing ever. I need more Ursulas in my life immediately.

i can’t wait to master poses. Gonna dedicate an entire thing to Francis where he gestures but has the same exact stone-faced expression LMAOOO Bro rarely raises an eyebrow in lore
Ashe also needs some neutral expressions. He’s not as .-. as Fran but he also doesn’t smile much when he’s not with Pipp. He’s very cool.
AND ITS GOING TO BE really fun turning all the expressions and poses I have for Love in my head into actual poses.

Very good Hunty! extra fun fact, barbers would also perform surgery and dental procedures in the middle ages and the pole colors (theoretically) represent blood and bandages

How Prevent Gifted Kid Burnout From a Gifted Silly whose Fire is still Blazing with Rage
1. EVERYTHING IS STUPID.
School is stupid, parents with unrealistically high expectations of you are stupid, teachers who overwork you are stupid.
You don't need their approval. You don't need to impress authority to have worth.
You don't need to be perfect, especially not in a broken system.
Test scores aren't a measure of intelligence. You are smart, even if the material was difficult to grasp.
You're not "wasting your potential" if you decide to pursue a career you love. Create art, write music, perform, you're contributing to the beauty of the world. There's more value in that than most people see.
You're not "wasting your potential" if you're an adult who isn't busting their butt in college or a fancy job. The economy is fucked right now, and being an adult is hard. You're doing your best.
And sometimes, you can't be at your best all the time, but you're trying, and that's all that matters.
2. Don't let school ruin a passion for learning.
Just learn. Learn and love learning. Learn without school holding you down. Find your passions, and run after them. Pursue knowledge because it's fucking fun.
Research something you care about for fun, challenge yourself to learn how to complete that math problem, learn, not because you feel like you have to, but because you want to.
Never let school make you lose a love for learning.
3. They explain it more effectively than I can lol
I made a video game metaphor but, when I was finding the video that made me realize this I read another video game metaphor that explained it better, "So basically, as a gifted kid, I skipped the tutorial because it felt too easy. Then the actual game threw curveballs at me" (adorablehoe, 2nd top comment).
