From the days of Norwegian language learning. I always tried to have a dedicated journal to each language that I was learning, it helped me work on grammar and sentence structure.

Yes, I’m using children’s books to learn to read and write Japanese. Sure, Rosetta Stone has been incredibly useful. But I feel like I am exercising a certain portion of my brain this way as an assist. Thanks to the one and only David Lee Roth for his sage advice on the Joe Rogan Show. #learningjapanese #learningtoreadandwrite #learninganewlanguage #japaneselanguage #exercisingmybrain #lifeinjapan2019🇯🇵 #newlanguageat47 #davideleeroth #joeroganpodcast #joeroganexperience #joerogan #everythingyouneedtoknow #youcanlearnonthejoeroganshow #sageadvice #shigaken #shigajapan #shigaprefecture #wanitakashiro #rosettastone #japanesechildrensbooks (at Otsu, Shiga) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByuU80Up2lm/?igshid=1ljpnp5yunlvd

Day 10 - Pop Quiz:  Korean Consonants
You probably saw this coming but it’s time for...
ANOTHER POP QUIZ!!  This time, however, on the Korean consonants.
Once again, if just the phrase “pop quiz” gives you anxiety, just imagine me as a Professor Kim.  Last time I asked you to think of me as Professor Kim Nam-joon, this time, imagine me as Kim Woo-bin teaching you Korean right now ;) (hmm, I seem to have a Kim theme happening)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope you have been practicing and have been rewriting the characters over and over.  Like before, no one (including myself) can see your results and the quiz can be taken over and over again.  Comment below if you have any questions.
화이팅!

Why Learn German?
Why learn German? My choice to learn German is a truly personal one. Ever since being assigned a family tree project in high school, I have had an interest in genealogy and my family's history. My mom's family, on both sides, immigrated from Germany during the 1800's (at different times, of course). However, our family's German language was lost along the way. During WWII, my grandparents and their families were part of the 12 million German-Americans living and working in the United States. My great-grandparents were told they were not to speak German in the home. Additionally, schools were told not to allow any German in the classroom. In the end, my grandparents grew up without a huge part of their heritage.  Now, in their 80's, my grandparents have books and letters, written in German, that they can not read. These items are key pieces to my family's history and their secrets are yet to be unlocked.
Why does all of this matter now? In recent weeks I have come to a very simple, yet profound, conclusion. I've always been, and will always be, (half) German. It's who I am. It's in my blood- literally. Certainly, that should not have come as a surprise to me. Right? In many ways, it didn't. However, living in a global pandemic and worrying about the health and safety of your elderly grandparents will shine a huge spotlight on what truly matters. Once your find yourself without work or income, facing empty store shelves, and are left to quarantine away from your loved ones in your home for a month or more (a month and counting at the time of writing), your perspective begins to change.
Now, to be fair, I've wanted to learn a new language for quite some time. In fact, one item on my bucket list is to be bilingual by my 40th birthday. However, I've wasted a lot of time going back and forth about which language I would study. In addition to German, I have considered Spanish, Hebrew, and Chinese all for different reasons. Many of those reasons were centered on where my life and work were in that moment. However, the one thing that will never change is my heritage. The history of my family will always remain the same. So, here I am. I invite you to follow my journey.
Let's Learn Deutsch together, shall we?

Ahh!!! Korean is a hard language to learn!!! But I know if I stick with it, it'll be wonderful to know it in the end! Don't judge my accent!! 아 !!! 한국어는 배우기 어려운 언어입니다 !!! 그러나 나는 그것으로 찌르는 지 안다, 결국 그것을 알고있는 것이 멋질 것이다! 내 악센트를 판단하지 마라 !! So this year, instead of getting pissed off by 15th that I haven’t miraculously lost weight, going to actually hit the gym, or can juggle I’ve decided to take a different approach. Instead of resolutions I’m setting myself reasonable targets to do by the end of year.⠀ ⠀ Read it all here: https://buff.ly/2CvxkIg⠀ ⠀ #aims #AmyHerzog #knitting #jumper #sweater #sweatergoals #knittinggoals #crafts #knittersofinstagram #coding #css #html #javascript #freecodecamp #learninganewlanguage #resolutions #blog #newyearsresolutions #newlanguage #IloveGermany #targets #somanyhashtagssolittletime http://ift.tt/2qh7mFZ

Day 7 - Break Day:  KDrama Night
After every 5 lessons or so, I will post a “Break Day”.  This is a day for you to either catch up or to give your brain a rest.  It’s important to take breaks once in a while so you don’t wear yourself out.
Today, I’m asking you to take a break by watching one of my favorite KDrama’s “My Love From Another Star”.
Even though you’re just getting started with learning Korean, it’s important to expose yourself as much to the language as possible.  This is so you can hear proper pronunciation, how people interact with one another, and learn a little more about their culture.
(Just a heads up, this video is a little off with sound and quality.  I believe this show is available on Netflix and on Viki if you want a higher quality.)
Ok!  Sit back and relax, pop some popcorn, open a bottle of soju and/or wine (if you are of age) and enjoy this award winning drama :)

Summary (from Wikipedia):
Do Min-joon (Kim Soo-hyun) is an alien that landed on Earth in the year 1609, during the Joseon Dynasty. As he tries to help a young girl, Yi-hwa, from falling off a cliff, he misses his trip back to his planet and is stranded on Earth for the next four centuries. He possesses a near-perfect appearance, enhanced physical abilities involving his vision, hearing and speed, and a cynical, jaded view regarding human beings. As time goes by, Min-joon is forced to take on a new identity every ten years, as his human appearance never ages.
In the present, he works as a college professor. With only three months left before his long-awaited departure back to space, he meets Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun), a famous Hallyu actress who suddenly becomes his next-door neighbour. Slowly, he finds himself entangled in Song-yi's crazy and unpredictable situations, and finds out that she looks like the young girl he fell in love with 300 years ago in the Joseon era. Min-joon tries to keep himself away from Song-yi as he needs to leave the planet, but often finds himself failing to do so.
However, Song-yi gets entangled in the dangerous games of Lee Jae-kyung (Shin Sung-rok), the elder brother of Lee Hee-kyung (Park Hae-jin), who has been her friend since middle school and is in love with her. Yoo Se-mi (Yoo In-na) is Song-yi's childhood best friend who has had a crush on Hee-Kyung since middle school. Realizing her love is just one-sided, Se-mi ultimately gives up her feeling on Hee-kyung and starts to focus on her career as an actress. As Jae-kyung tries to silence Song-yi, Min-joon finds himself saving her multiple times, and eventually, the neighbours fall for each other. But Jae-kyung turns out to be much more dangerous than Min-joon suspected, as he hurts Se-mi's older brother, who is investigating the murder of an actress in which Jae-kyung is actively involved, and he also mysteriously starts to lose control of his powers. However, in the end, Jae-kyung finally gets what he deserves.[3]
