Rune Art: 'Legacies of Bifrost' by @gifts-of-heimdall-runes
Tumblr media
'Legacies of Bifröst - Abstract Staves II' showed a rune art project created by @gifts-of-heimdall-runes. The project was an expression of continued personal interactions with rune energy by creative expressions.
There were two parts to this project:
1) Rune Textures
2) Rune Circles & Reflections
RUNE TEXTURES:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second part of 'Legacies of Bifröst' showed mounted individual rune circle art cards and rune reflection cards for the twenty-four runes of the Elder Futhark. Correspondences posted with 'Reflections' designs showed condensed rune notes and journeys shared with 'Bifröst Shining' & 'Textures of Bifröst' that began in 1997 and continued to the current day. The text for each rune communicated an understanding of a larger journey of personal and trans-personal initiation throughout the 24 staves of the Elder Futhark.
Rune names were deliberately taken from Wardruna music albums 'gap var Ginnunga', 'yggdrasil' & 'Ragnarok' rather than using more popular proto-Germanic. I'm a big fan of Wardruna music!
RUNE CIRCLES & REFLECTIONS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cards were  divided according to the three Ætts (eights) of the Elder Futhark which my inner journeys have associated with:
○ First Eight: Journeys of Creation (as decribed by norse mythology).
○ Second Eight: Journeys Within: Norns and travelling Yggdrasil.
○ Third Eight: Journeys of Soul via the Norse Gods to Ragnarök.
Tumblr media
This end design showed a reverse common card design for printed rune art cards. The designs vary slightly to what was shared on Instagram & Facebook due to personal preference changes.
The non-commercial deck was printed by Make Playing Cards (MPC) for a personal collection of rune art cards. The photos were take on a rather cloudy day in January 2024!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Legacies of Bifröst rune art project and any content therein was created for fun and shared to express celebrating a continued journey with the runes and Spirit inspiration and to perhaps inspire others with their own rune travels. To most of everyone else, these designs represent a load of nonsense created by an eccentric Englishman.
'Legacies of Bifröst' was created on & off May -July 2023, then shared Autumn 2023 via Facebook & Instagram. Page wallpaper was created from originals found via Pinterest and @forndom then edited by Mirror Lab app & Serif DrawPlus software.

behold 714 words of me going insane
In the earliest days of theater, the primary genre was tragedy, and countless plays written were centered on the hamartia and the reverse of fortune, creating a very iconic structure. Centuries later, the bard himself, Shakespeare, took that structure and expanded on it, introducing a concept we colloquially now refer to as collateral damage. The passion that he sparked has not died down, and the legacy of tragedy lives strong today, pulsating under the mainstream, heartbreak and dread lurking around the corners of literature. Tragedy is the selling point, the callsign of many a work of fiction, and one in particular, a band by the name of The Mechanisms, pulls it off very, very well. To start off the list, the band does fictional retellings of many well known tales from folklore and mythology, and if you’ve read any of them, you will know that not many of these stories end well, contributing to the sense of inevitability that the bards of old oh-so dearly loved. Take for example, the myth of Ragnarok, a well known story that tells of the end of the earth. The sense of inevitability is already present, the coming of Ragnarok being a prophecy Odin receives. This prophecy turns out to be self-fulfilling though, when it is revealed that the actions he takes to prevent it are what cause Ragnarok in the first place. This is also a mark of many Greek tragedies, although it’s not strictly necessary for the tragedy format. Their album The Bifrost Incident keeps that element along with many others, and what Odin creates to prevent the tragedy is what causes it in the first place. Since we all know that Ragnarok ends with all the gods dying, with the world being destroyed with only 2 sole survivors, there is a sense of doom awaiting us, every step of the way. This is bolstered by the fact that every album starts with its name being spoken out loud; many of them are a reference to the tragic ending, or, in the case of The Bifrost Incident or Ulysses Dies At Dawn, straight up tell you exactly who dies. Adding on to that, the second and final key element of a tragedy that this traveling band of fictional immortal space pirates absolutely blows out of the park is the fatal flaw, hamartia. In High Noon Over Camelot, another album, the hamartia of many characters play off each other, creating the conflict and reversal of fortune in this story, with examples such as Arthur moving on and refusing to look back, Mordred not telling anyone anything and instead blending in, and Gawain’s hate blinding him. These all play off each other in very tragic ways, and without going insane about how terribly beautiful this album is, let’s just say that it ends with a lot of people dead. You can pinpoint exactly what went wrong and exactly what seemingly innocuous character trait led to the downfall of everything everyone knew and loved. The final nail in the coffin of the populations of multiple planets, their tragedies are not at all self-contained, eloquently massacring the Shakepearean concept of collateral damage. The album Ulysses Dies At Dawn ends, unsurprisingly, with Ulysses dying. This is the inevitable, the tragedy, but what it doesn’t tell you is how many people they eventually take down with them. Not even mentioning the bonus stories written by the Mechanisms, the deaths of 5 people were directly caused by Ulysses, and they indirectly cause the deaths of many more, just by the virtue of dying. It’s a new spin on the collateral damage, with the people getting hurt not particularly attached to Ulysses, but rather, shoved there by the society they live in, and by the puppeting hand of one particular pirate. By the end of the story, 6 are dead by Ulysses’ hand, and everyone else by the consequences of their actions. Their tragedy does not stick to one person, rather it is like a meteor in an ocean, because although there are other tragedies, they are dwarfed by the colossal wave of Ulysses’ own. With the last ingredient of a heart-wrenching tragedy in place, the Mechanisms’ job is done, their mastery over the art of the dread and anguish of tragedy firmly cemented.

Chapter 10
Tumblr media
Sol POV
Placing my fingers on my lips, my mind drifts to Loki, "Tonight was amazing."
Finally, back in my room, I lay on the bed, smiling into my pillow. I relax, letting my eyes close.
Dream
Opening my eyes, I find myself surrounded by fluffy clouds. Looking up at the sky, the stars move, centering around me as I sit up slowly. Looking around, I see nothing for miles on end until a familiar light shines before me.
Staring into the light, I watch as the man and woman that always seems to appear before I awaken. I take in their features; their skin was a mixture of blue and purple, eyes as white as snow, dark blue symbols rest beside their eyes. They glowed before me like shining stars.
The woman speaks up, "She's finally awakened."
Looking up, amazed, I stare at the two, "Who are you."
The man looks down at me, "My name is K'ythri, and this is my love Sharra; we are the ones who created you."
"What?"
Sharra steps forward, "We are here to fill in the missing pieces of your past, how you came to be, and the power you hold."
Placing her hand on my back, she pulls me forward; K'ythri holds out his hand. Showing a glimpse of the past, "On Asgard, a family resided, they are what deities call the Keeper of the Gods. They have the ability to communicate with the higher beings of the universe. As the generations pass, the more they spoke with those above them carrying on the wisdom that has been passed down for generations."
Showing me those who look so much like me, I listen carefully. Sharra picks up where he leaves off, "As time went on their existence grew smaller and they became targets of greed and hatred. Leaving only one left to reside at the edge of Asgard, your mother Hertha."
Showing me a picture of the beautiful woman, I smile at her warm, calming features. "She was kindhearted and worthy enough to connect with us at a young age. When her parents passed, we became close to her and remained her companions throughout her life."
K'ythri shifts the memory of her, "Being a Keeper of the Gods, you are granted luck by them but we could only do so much. Venturing off into town, she was attacked. We were able to guide her to a healer who would take her, but she wasn't able to bear children as a result of the attack. She was devastated, she could not carry the legacy of her family, it would end where she stood. Saddened by this, Sharra and I bent the rules of this reality and used our power to create you. With our essence and her blood, she was with child, and that child was you."
Showing me the days of her pregnancy, I watch as she rubs her round belly, "When you come into this world, I have so much to show you. Like the beach hidden by the rocks, I always found the prettiest shells there. Or the field that rests a bit north, the flowers that would bloom there are always so beautiful. My sweet child, this world holds so much hate for us. We may part but just remember you're never alone. Those that reside in the sky will always be there, to watch over you and guide you."
Feeling my eyes swell, she hums a sweet melody, the same one from my dream. "Mom."
A new memory forms, making Sharra frown, "She remained in hiding, but when the villagers found out, they banned together to kill the both of you. On the day of your birth, we remained by her side along with the others. As soon as you were born the outside world became meanless as she looked into your innocent eyes."
I watch as the woman smiles down at me, "My sweet child, Verdandi."
I watch as the tears swell in her eyes, hearing the commotion outside, she quickly gets up, using all her strength, and began to run.
"She fleed, running down the golden gate to send you somewhere safe."
Watching her, she walks inside the golden dome. Meeting with Heimdall she looks at him with pleading eyes. "Please send me somewhere safe, somewhere my daughter can live her life in peace."
He seemed hesitant, "No one shall pass or come through the Bifrost."
She looks defeated, but then the baby begins to wiggle in her arms. Looking around, she sees Heimdall and laughs as she reaches up to touch him. Looking down at her, his heart melts; he gives in, "You may take her to Midgard, but you must return; you know the rules can only be broken so much."
Understanding his words she nods, "I know my fate."
Sending her down, she holds me close as she appears in an alley. Confused and frantic, by the world around her she notices a house across the street. The windows were lit, and it seemed safe enough.
Rushing over, she looks down at the baby, "I love you, Verdandi, while your past is grim, may your future be bright and you're present remain memorable." Kissing the baby's forehead, she knocks on the door as hard as she can and runs away. Watching as both my adoptive parents open the door and lifted me up.
Smiling at the sight sadly, she gets shot up in a beam of light. Thanking Heimdall she returns to her home, tears falling from her eyes. Writing down something, she lifts the stone, placing it in a hole before covering it. Hearing the cries of anger outside, she remains still, allowing the sound of the ocean to consume her. I cover my mouth, watching as the house burns with her inside. Falling she slowly dies, leaving a prayer on her lips.
"Please, protect her."
I watch before the memory fades. Sharra continues, "From that moment forward, we did everything in our power to protect you, bending the balance as much as we could. We watched you grow and made sure to cast illusions on those who wanted to harm you. Every time you used your powers the stronger they became and the closer you came to see the gods who wish to aid you in your destiny."
I look up at them, "My destiny?"
K'ythri nods, "A dark mind will come in the future, to your home of its people, you will play a part and shift the everchanging future. You will grow stronger, with every day but we'll never leave your side."
Looking up, I see the other gods appear before me. Smiling, I place my hand on my heart, "Thank you for watching over me all this time, I won't let you down. I'll survive, and carry the legacy my family has done for so many years."
Feeling their warmth and love, they begin to fade away, "I'm waking up."
K'ythri and Sharra hold hands, "We'll never be too far."
With that, they fade away.
Dream Over
Sitting up, I look around, still, in my dress from yesterday, I rush out of my room, running down the halls. Passing by everyone who stands in my way, I leave the palace going into town. Running through the busy people, I soon hear the sound of the ocean crashing against the cliff.
Seeing the burnt house up ahead, I rush into the rubble. Pushing the broken wood and rocks out of the way, I find the stone floor, lifting a loose rock, I find a small box and a note on top. Standing, I read the note to myself.
"My dear daughter, Verdandi, if you're reading this then you've learned the truth. I wish I could have watched you grow. I still think of the smile on your face when I had to part with you. I hope that you remained safe on Midgard, in a home filled with love. I left his box, with the history of our family. Pictures of the past and what we've learned from the first to now. I hope this helps you in your future. Never forget that I love you and that I'll always be with you in your heart."
Tears spill from my eyes, crying by myself, I drown in my tears. Feeling my heartache I look up to see clouds form in the sky. Opening a portal I go through with the box and paper in hand. Trying to wipe my tears I look up to see Loki.
"Loki?"
Dropping the items in my hand, the tears don't stop falling as Loki pulls me close. "Everything is going to be ok."

Nari
I love my boy!
favorite thing about them
I've intentionally written him as very family oriented, and I think it is his best quality. He cares so much about all of them, and is quick to their defense. It also means when he fights with his family, it's over something he feels very strongly about, which is great from a writing perspective.
least favorite thing about them
He's actually one of the harder characters to write for, at least when he's older. Nari the Younger is a child and so he's mostly just a collection of young child tropes, though he does take his responsibilities as Crown Prince very seriously for a six-year-old. Nari the Elder on the other hand, there's a stark difference between who he is in the main fic, where he's an exiled crown prince and has had decades, if not centuries, of expectations and wanting to protect his family like his father and uncle do, and who he is in almost every other universe, where he's the inheritor of Heimdall and Sigyn's legacy and training to be a Guardian of the Bifrost. His sister has much more consistency across the multiverse, in who she is and what she wants. There's basically three different characters named "Nari" that are related be distinct from each other.
favorite line
Probably this exchange:
“No, Scar’s the bad guy,” Nari said. “Like Thanos.” Thor froze. “Mama thinks I don’t hear stuff,” Nari said. “I’ll keep that in mind,” Thor said. “Is Thanos gone?” Nari asked. “Yes,” Thor said. “Your mother and Morgan’s father made sure he is never coming back.” Nari nodded. “Good.”
It's so much of who Nari is-- insightful, family-oriented, protective, and wise, but also harsh and somewhat unforgiving. That last "Good." is just *chef's kiss* exactly him.
brOTP
HIs relationship with his siblings, 100%. Obviously Nari and Vali are great together, but I also really love the dynamic he has with Brandr. It was also fun to write him with Brunnhilde.
OTP
I know I don't really see him in relationships, but I do root for Nari/Morgan a little bit. I know they're six, but maybe when they're older.
nOTP
Most ships, honestly. Nari is baby, I think I've made my point clear on that, lol. XD
random headcanon
Nari had a horror film phase when he was 14, and he always has a soft spot for his favorite Disney films.
unpopular opinion
I probably make Nari less of an "innocent martyr" character type and more of a "tragic victim" type. Part of this is that I made him significantly older than his sister in the fic (though they are still twins in most universes). Part of this is allowing him to grow up.
song I associate with them
"Little Lion Man" by Mumford & Sons, for sure.
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
Nari, of course, being 95% OC, doesn't have an image of him from any of the MCU properties, but I do fancast Timothee Chalamet in the role, and of the pictures that came up in a quick google search, this one seemed to capture Nari more than the professional magazine shoots or the red carpet pics.
Thank you for the ask!

I don't want to respond to this directly in a reblog bc it doesn't really have to do with the content of the rest of the post (which is great, by the way! I'm really happy that things are going well on an artistic side and your work is lovely!) but this aside has me feeling some kind of way.
I don't think it's a fair characterisation to say the mechanisms 'misinterpreted' the universe of Doctor Carmilla, because it isn't really the same universe. The continuity between Doctor Carmilla & The Mechanisms and The Mechanisms as a standalone band seems to me to really be legacy only, and to the degree that Carmilla is mentioned in-universe it's an acknowledgement of the band's origins, not an attempt to write a Carmilla story. Seems to me like it wouldn't be appropriate for the Mechanisms to write stories about Doctor Carmilla and the universe Maki developed in her absence, nor would it be fair to pretend Maki never existed or that Carmilla wasn't deeply involved in the foundations of the Mechanisms universe.
like if you approach the Mechanisms and Doctor Carmilla as one unified story led by Maki then sure, it comes across like the Mechanisms misinterpreted ideas and dropped threads. But that's...not what it is? They're two separate stories with a common root. Maki hasn't been involved in writing with the Mechanisms since 2011 and the band finished in 2020 - in almost a decade with different people writing, a good number of whom weren't even involved with the Doctor Carmilla era of the Mechanisms, yeah, it isn't the same entity and I don't think that the Mechs have ever acted like it's meant to be? Doctor Carmilla is Doctor Carmilla and the Mechanisms are the Mechanisms and they exist in separate universes with some crossover points - that seems to me to be the best approach?
Like, it would be valid to say that the Mechanisms misinterpreted Carmilla's universe and character if they had ever written stories about Carmilla or about the ideas Maki had for her story. but they.... haven't? ever really done that? They've written stories featuring Carmilla, which is really kind of an acknowledgement that the band started with Maki, but only really in apocrypha or performing songs developed with Maki as far as I can tell? and beyond that when they've introduced new characters or story elements they've avoided going back over ground that would mean reinvolving Carmilla without Maki's input. bc from what I've seen they're pretty careful about not writing stories About Other People's Characters without getting substantial input and signoff from those people.
I don't really know the precise circumstances in which Doctor Carmilla and the Mechanisms became two separate entities - that's a wee bit before my time - but my impression was that nobody pushed anybody out or was cut out, that it was all pretty amicable, and that the Mechanisms wanted to perform more and Maki was going in more of a solo direction so they went on performing separately. I have no idea if that's a correct impression (and I'm happy to be corrected if not) but either way it's not abandoning a character to carry on without them when the person who played them is no longer involved, and it's not misinterpreting or abandoning an idea to build your own thing on the foundation it's set. I like both the universe Maki's made for Doctor Carmilla and the universe the Mechanisms made for their stories, they don't need to be in competition and there doesn't need to be One True Correct Canon, especially since Maki has continued making really great work on Doctor Carmilla's story without the Mechanisms. They can and should just be separate entities, that's allowed.
(and this isn't a go at you, btw, this is just like I've heard this take a few times and it seems like a pretty uncharitable interpretation of how creativity works. The Mechanisms are allowed creative ownership over their own universe - they were working with Doctor Carmilla for under a year and they've been developing stories together for the better part of a decade and it seems like a pretty unfair approach to all involved to cast that as a shadow of Doctor Carmilla's universe as if the only way you're allowed to keep using the same band name is if you follow exactly the preordained narrative of someone who hasn't been part of the band for years. Doctor Carmilla as a story and a character has certainly changed and developed over time, musically and narratively, and that's good! That's as it should be! so I don't know why the Mechanisms' narrative universe not being the same as it was when they were ...And The Mechanisms is sometimes framed as a bastardisation of Maki's work rather than like. an evolution and development of their own creative voice and stories)
Like. Assuming that we agree that it's good that the Mechanisms existed post separating from Carmilla and went on to make new music and write new stories, how would that do this in a way that wasn't a 'misinterpretation' and/or 'abandonment' of Carmilla's story? Either you have to try and tell Carmilla's story, which would be inevitably a 'misinterpretation' because. They're different people. And it would be pretty inappropriate to try and tell the same story as Maki wanted to tell without her and potentially have two versions of the same story competing. Or you do what the Mechs did in practise, and largely leave Carmilla's story and the surrounding universe for its creator to play with and go ahead and make your own thing with its own universe and rules that won't impact on the story they obviously want to build for their own character and world. You can characterise that as 'abandonment' but I'm not sure what the better option is then, other than just Nobody Who Has Ever Made Anything Involving Doctor Carmilla Can Ever Do Anything With The Characters They Made For That. like. It seems like the only alternative to keep creating with those characters (which, again, people developed as onstage personas for themselves) that couldn't be called a misinterpretation or an abandonment of Maki's original vision is like, to only ever do anything with Maki in charge, which is a pretty big limitation to put on a band, especially if I'm right in my understanding that they parted ways because Maki wanted to take a different approach to her work that didn't heavily involve the Mechanisms, so would she even have had the time, capacity or interest to lead on a whole other project alongside her own work back in 2011? When people have this take that the Mechanisms were somehow disrespectful of Maki's story by not just telling Maki's story and instead making their own thing, I just have to ask like what exactly is the alternative version where the Mechanisms make their own creative work with their own creative voice in a way that isn't either reinterpreting or moving away from the Doctor Carmilla story?????
#sorry i just. i don't understand how else this is meant to work#and it kind of just comes across like an...anger that the Mechanisms did their own thing at all#like they aren't. doctor Carmilla and the Mechanisms. they haven't been for a decade. they're a different entity#their stories have little to nothing to do with Carmilla's stories except in legacy#they acknowledge the debt they owe to Carmilla/Maki as their founder#that doesn't mean they are part of the same story NOW#they have no obligation to tell Only Carmilla's Story As Laid Out By Maki and tbh doing that would diminish both their work and Maki's#Carmilla is Maki's story to tell. OUATIS and HNOC and UDAD and Bifrost and the crew stories are the Mechs' creations and theirs to play with#what's wrong with that? why shouldn't they leave behind a story that isn't theirs to tell?#why would they coopt Maki's story that she's clearly passionate about and knew what she wanted to do with when they can do their own thing?#they wrote Carmilla out of the Mechanisms' story because Maki was no longer involved#and Carmilla is minimised in the backstories of a lot of the characters who she featured in#i would say as a fairly inevitable result of the need to balance acknowledgement (ie not retconning her out)#with the fact that once you're developing that character beyond the story where both Carmilla and Maki are taking an active role#if you talk about their history with Carmilla you're GONNA bring your own stuff to the table and that Carmilla CANNOT be the same as Maki's#because the story isn't coming from Maki#so you either have to do like Brian and Ivy and Nastya and move away from really mentioning that aspect of their backstory more than needed#or you do like Jonny and develop your character and your narrative in a way that implies stuff about your relationship with that character#which Maki doesn't have control over.#but like there isn't a middle ground where you keep Carmilla as a central aspect of the story but also never stray from Maki's vision#so yeah it does seem safer to leave that whole story as at most a background element you gesture at#rather than trampling roughshod over somebody else's character#it's a whole godmodding issue#and also to like. be clear on your own mind about the canonicity of the story. which i think is part of the issue tbh bc it sounds like#maybe Maki considers the ongoing Mechs universe to be in Carmilla canon and the Mechs consider it to be a different branching universe?#canon is i think a lot more plastic in the Mechs work than in Doctor Carmilla.#I've mentioned on here before that several Mechs have talked about there being no hard and fast canon even within the story they're telling#let alone between their story and other interrelated stories#hence Finger Puppet Brian Theory and Everyone Is Goo theory have like. equal canonicity to anything else.#all the stories are told by unreliable narrators and we're not supposed to understand them as Exact Truth

When We Meet Again
Loki x (f)Asgardian reader
Summary: Loki has just seen how terribly is life ends, fortunately, yours is not done with his quit yet.
Warning: death but things get better
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Loki had not a damn clue why in all the nine realms about what he was doing in wherever the hell he was. What was it called again? TVA, now what did that exactly stand for? And why is he even wearing these awful beige colors? His poor armor is seemingly no more, that was fine Asgardian leather too, those bastards.
So far today, or whatever time it is anymore. He’d been captured by the Avengers, teleported to some remote landscape where he got a suit full of sand, snatched and manhandled by time police something. Then taken into a strange building, stripped of his armor, given the ugliest clothing he’s ever had to wear.
And.
He was tried for crimes against the timeline where he was obviously found guilty no matter the vocal swindling the God of Mischief attempted. Then to top it all off, some grey haired know-it-all calling himself Mobius decided to spare Loki’s life and make him walk all the way into his office. Which is by the way incredibly boring and unnecessary, to Loki that is.
Why is he here again?
This guy Mobius has done nothing but further irritate the stubborn Asgardian, constantly pressuring Loki for his true insight and reasoning for all the chaos and lies he’s ever committed throughout his lifetime. Loki, not having it one bit, didn’t actually bother to care nor comply until the tables started turning in ways he did not expect in the slightest.
And he doesn’t get surprised easily.
Then and only then did Loki shut up and listen. Although after the tape reeled out he still couldn’t understand why he was even here in the first place? He learned that his mother suffers a terrible fate, his father dies, his home of Asgard is no more after Ragnarok, his brother is left alone in the universe without him due to a certain Mad Titan. But worst of all. He has no idea what happens to his dearly beloved Y/N once he’s killed off by Thanos.
He hadn’t even thought about her till now in fact. With everything going on, she was left to the back of his mind, and anyways. He left her a year ago when he fell from the Bifrost, that’s the last of her he ever saw but according to this Loki he just watched.
Himself and Y/N had met after New York when he arrived in Asgard with Thor, walking into the great halls with golden chains around his legs, wrists, and throat. Not much was said between the two at first, but in those months after, she’d visit him every single day until the dark elves came and then Y/N, himself, and Thor essentially went rouge for awhile.
The dark elves supposedly killed Loki off, but it was a ploy that Y/N was told about beforehand. Then while Thor was on Midgard, Loki and his beloved lived a pretty solid life in secret since he was disguised as Odin. Hence some time later, Hela fucks everything up, they’re stuck on Saccar for a few weeks. Back to Asgard for a final showdown and thus goodbye Asgard forever....what’s next? oh it’s just Thanos.
Where Loki is murdered and well……he has no idea what happens to Y/N next. Which has not done anything to sway is nerves one bit.
Seated on the other chair because he threw the first one at the screen, Loki’s face shows a handful of clustered emotions while he processes the past ten minutes showcasing his life and legacy. Clasping his hands together on the table, his blue irises study worriedly up at Mobius, “What of me now? My whole life leads to nothing adheredly prominent but death for me, and now I’m stuck in this place. So, telling by your face, I presume I’m never allowed back on my original timeline.”
Mobius nods, “That’s correct.”
“Well then.” Presses Loki with an annoyed scowl, “Why am I here? What good could I possibly do?”
Mobius gives the trickster god a knowing look, halfway between concern and amusement, “Because of her.” He rewinds the film to a freeze frame of Y/N while Loki’s eyes find the source of concern for the moment. She’s undoubtedly beautiful, standing defiantly against the forces of Hela’s undead army on the bifrost like the fearless warrior she is.
Asgardian armor shinning beautifully in the sunlight as she raises her obsidian sword to her foes. His beloved Y/N, the Goddess of the Hunt. It’s no wonder she’s lived this long, her strength and ability to perform so well in battle is unmatched to even the likes of Thor. She always did impress him with her swordsmanship, but her wit and charm was enough to have the god tripping up the royal steps.
Loki’s brows furrow, “Why her? Wait…do you know where she is? Right now?” He rambles urgently, wanting desperately to know what becomes of his lover once he’s deceased.
Mobius gives him an almost solemn glance, “Y/N……she doesn’t survive Thanos either.” Begrudgingly admits the TVA worker who watches as Loki’s face falls, eyes pricking with tears as he reveals a heavy amount of shock.
Loki’s heart sinks, how could you not have survived? “What?” He whispers in astonishment, blinking back his sorrows as he awaits the truthful answer.
The greying man gives a low nod, “She gets severely injured trying to kill Thanos after he, well, you know. She...” Mobius bows his head as he lets slip a small sigh, “..fought to the death for you. She saved Thor.”
“So, so wh-what? What are we supposed to do then?” Exclaims Loki, “I can’t just…I don’t want her to die, that’s just. It’s not fair…”
“Now hold on a minute, collect yourself.” Ushers Mobius with a small wave, “There..”
“There’s what! If this is all going according to the timeline then how are we to save her? I mean..” Loki breaths out a nervous laugh, “…you said it yourself. This is just how it’s supposed to be. I’m supposed to do all that and thus the love of my life is destined to die anyways.”
“That is true. Yes.”
Loki gives him a baffled look, “Then what’s the exception?”
Mobius smirks before leaning into the table, “You see Loki. Some timelines are ever so slightly altered from their usual course. Which doesn’t usually end up to anything dramatic, although now in this one, somewhere along the lines something happened to do just that. Cause something a bit dramatic if you will. Be it a tiny kink in the timeline from a magical source not understanding their power, or an Asgardian warrior who happened to steal a valuable object when they shouldn’t have…”
Loki’s expression shift into deep confusion, “What? This can happen? Why didn’t anyone stop it?”
“The course didn’t change. So we didn’t need to interfere.”
“Alright then….why now? Why her?” Points Loki to the fearsome image of you still on the screen.
“Because she has an ancient amulet that doesn’t belong to her, this object is owned by someone from another timeline who is going to need it. Now, it’s hard to say how or when she got this thing. But in her timeline, she’ll die with it on and no one will be around to take it back…”
“Right. She, dies alone.” Mutters Loki solemnly, face shifting into a frown.
“Yes. But…we can save your dear Y/N in this one specific timeline because of the circumstances surrounding her. And ironically, you’re here to help me, which will make everything greatly less terrifying for her when she comes here.”
Loki immediately rises to his feet, “Wait, she’s coming here?”
“Yep. We would never restart her. She’d probably end up as one of our scouts or timeline bounty hunters…”
“Timeline bounty hunters?”
Mobius shrugs, “People who hunt down and either kill or stun someone dramatically interfering with the timeline for us. They’re incredibly valuable.”
“Alright and what if she doesn’t want that? Then what? You kill her, lock her in a prison for eternity?” Snaps Loki in irritation, desperately not wanting this version of you imprisoned just for existing with something you should never have come into contact with.
“Y/N would never have her freedom taken from her, we’d simply set her in another universe if she wasn’t willing to join the TVA.....possible memory wipe.” Mutters Mobius as Loki gives him a look, “If necessary.”
Loki open his mouth to speak though nothing appears to come out he’s so perplexed by this whole new ordeal. Learning on the fly is beginning to become increasingly more difficult and all these different timelines are messing with him.
“Alright so, how….how and where do we find her?”
“I’m glad you asked.” Smiles Mobius as he pulls something metal out of his back pocket. “I’ll get you a jacket.”
——
This wasn’t supposed to happen, you were on a set course for Midgard with the last of the Asgardian’s, nothing was supposed to destroy most of your ships and then…
“Don’t move. He wants you alive.” Growls the horned woman as she presses a shimmering razor sharp sword against the side of your neck.
You keep as still as physically possible, a low simmering rage building inside with every passing moment held captive in the claws of death as you watch Loki attempt to sweet talk Thanos. Thor kneeling down at your side, doing no better then yourself as you two keep at the mercy of Thanos’ children. These atrocious beings warped by his toxic mindset for universal rule.
Loki smirks, face pale and bruised from the fallout of the ships as he stands in front of Thanos, “I consider experience, experience.” States Loki as he rests a hand on his chest, “Almighty Thanos, I…Loki, Prince of Asgard….Odinson….rightful King of Jotunheim…God of Mischief, o herby pledge to you…”
Your tearful eyes widen in fear as he materializes a dagger into his hidden fist, “…my undying fidelity.” A second later the dagger is thrust upwards towards the Mad Titans throat but is quickly caught before Loki is able to make any significant damage. Your breath immediately catches in your throat as you tighten your grip onto Proxima’s strong arms that still hold you in like a cage.
Thanos appears unamused, “Undying? You should choose your words more carefully.” Before snatching Loki up by his neck in one swift motion, a small gasp escaping from your lips as the Titan smirks. He almost laughs in mockery at Loki’s chanced efforts, purple face showing no remorse as his fist begins to squeeze.
“No!” You seethe through clenched teeth as Proxima presses the blade into your neck, drawing a tiny trickle of blood.
Your lip quivers as Loki struggles to speak, face going bloodshot as his veins purple with the intense pressure, “You…will never be….a…god..” Crack.
“Nooooo!” You scream with rage while the Mad Titan maliciously grins, eyes set onto you and Thor before he takes a step forward. Dropping Loki in front of you both like a piece of discarded trash, the blade on your neck at this point feels like a simple paper cut to the pain and anguish rising in your heart.
“No resurrections this time.” Adds Thanos with a satisfied nod as he turns to face his Black Order, “Kill the man, leave the other as an example.” Commands Thanos before turning to walk over to his discarded helmet.
Proxima pushes you violently to the dirt before aiming her weapon at Thor, in a flash you’ve sent her across the room with the rage of a lioness. Thanos’ head snaps up to meet your furious gaze but before he’s able to move you’ve thrown her sword straight for his head.
You move in a red blur across the desolated place, too fast for his children to catch, but just slow enough for him to sway a hand at your shoulder. He misses, just barely. You skid across the ground before unleashing your famous metal whip unto the hulking Titan. He receives a hard bloody slash across his left cheek as the pale goblin like follower launches themselves at you.
“Graaahhhh!” He yells as your whip catches him across the legs where he falls hard onto the earth like a thundering heap of logs.
Soon you do battle with the Mad Titan for a short time before he takes your exhausted efforts into account. And a moment later your whip is thrown to the side as he uses a piece of broken ship to spear you in the lower abdomen. Your world is pain and misery, you can hardly stand you’re so exhausted from the shipwreck, witnessing the love of your life die in front of you, and how Thanos has beaten you down to nothing more then a withered rose. Your thorns still sharp and bloody though your pedals feel like they’re burning to an ashy crisp.
Smirking in satisfaction, he pulls the makeshift blade out before watching as you fall to your knees. Your weary gaze fights to keep your scowl as you suck in jagged breaths.
“You will join him soon enough.” Whispers the purple monstrosity, eyes trailing your damaged form as you fall slump to the ground. He then walks off to join his entourage, leaving you to bleed out alone in the carnage.
——
Loki’s green irises gleam with unshed tears as he watches you struggle to breath, your breaths are low and shallow as you suffer from the final blow to your tired vessel. He blinks, turning his troubled gaze over to Mobius who’s right next to him, “We have to do something. She’s dying.” Whisper yells Loki to his new companion.
“I can see that. Wait a moment.” Wait a moment? Wait a fucking moment?
Loki’s gaze shifts from you and then back to Mobius, “We can’t, wh-what? Y/N is dying..”
Mobius holds up a finger, “Fifteen seconds..”
“Wh..”
“Shhh.”
Loki waits another ten seconds longer and soon Thanos uses the gauntlet to destroy a part of the dying ship, it bursts into flames before he disappears into a cloud of dark blues and purples along with his four followers.
Loki snaps his attention back to Mobius, “Now can we?”
“Yes.”
——
Awakening in a cell of white, you’re thankful that the overhead lights are dulled and not obnoxiously blinding you. Now where even are you? Your eyes trail from the pale ceiling over to a silver coated door on your right. The wall appearing to show an area resembling that of a window, although when you rise to investigate you’re greeted by the image of yourself.
So it’s a mirror.
Your room is clean as a dime, about as large as a prison cell in Asgard but this doesn’t exactly look like a prison. Thanos! Your nerves prick as you bend your neck to find your lower torso wrapped in a thick white bandage. Your whole attire in fact completely in white, besides the socks that are grey. And the mysterious amulet you’ve had for years is nowhere to be found either.
Steadying your anxious breaths, your mind swims with everything that’s happened in the past however long it’s been, oh that’s right you were stabbed by Thanos after…
A sob leaves your throat at the horrific memory, Loki, your beloved Loki was killed right before your very eyes by the Mad Titan himself. So violently, so quick, and you couldn’t do anything to stop it. Nothing.
“oh my love I’m so sorry.” You whisper while tears slide down the sides of your cheeks. Your throat feels tight as a knot and your legs give out once again as more gasps for needed breath flow into your system from the adrenaline of panic and grief.
For a couple minutes do you let out your heart and soul into the small room of white. All your pain and anguish bouncing off of the walls for everything and everyone you’ve lost up to this point. It’s almost to much to take.
After a good cry, you press your hands to the cool tiled floor while you keep half-seated on the hard ground. Something new flickers into your chest that you didn’t know you even had. A growing rage building and building, you’re stuck here, Loki is dead. And Thanos is alive somewhere in the universe.
Jumping to your feet, you close your palms against one another and take a calculated breath. Quickly opening your palms, a shimmering silver and blue laced sword emits from your magic in the aftermath. Perfect. Holding the hilt tightly in your fist, you stand ready to slash at the mirror just as a man in a strange outfit opens up the door.
You freeze as he lends a friendly smile, “Hi there, you’re up.” You keep silent as he takes a cautious step forward, “Uh, we don’t use those here. Could you maybe put that away? And come with me?”
Lowering the sword you frown, “Where am I?”
——
Standing in a new room, much larger then the first and admittedly less clean though that’s the least of your concerns. The man who now calls himself Mobius, stands across an office table from you while you stare him down suspiciously. Sword still in hand at your side. He smiles, “Now, I just explained the reason why you’re here okay. So, I just have one more thing to add..”
“Which is? I just watched everyone I ever cared about die and now I’m…I’m wherever the hell I am?”
“The TVA.”
“Yes, that.” You snap, “What do I even do now? I can’t ever go back to my own timeline because I’m supposed to die which is, if I may add, ridiculous and cruel. I’m the Goddess of the Hunt for goodness sake’s! I’m a warrior of Asgard I don’t deserve to die like that! Now I can never avenge my husband! Dammit!”
Mobius’ brows raise at that while he holds a palm out, “Please keep the weapon down Y/N, there’s someone you should meet first.”
You scoff, “I’d like to refrain from meeting anyone else thank you very much!”
“Even me?”
That voice. No. It can’t, it absolutely could not be, that’s impossible.
But you also thought all this was impossible twenty minutes ago before your whole life was turned upside down. You swallow, taking a shaky breath before twisting around in a blur. Sword raised to the intruders face. His handsome face. That familiar face. Him.
You breaths are heavier now as you stare him down, “What illusion is this? Some fucked sorcery perhaps? Necromancy?” You growl, face contorted in frustrated anger as you threaten Loki. But that can’t be him. Right?
This shorter haired Loki dressed in the same attire as Mobius, though he shares a relived smile, eyes glossy as he studies your face, “Answer me!” You snap with a threatening shake of your sword, “Who are you!? And why….why do you look like him!?”
Loki opens his arms before shrugging and resting them back down at his sides, smile never leaving his lips once, “I am him. Although I am from another timeline.”
You keep your sword raised to his face, a deep stubbornness in your vessel that you can’t bring yourself to admit this is all real, “You’re not him. You’re not my Loki…..but, you are….but you’re not. I don’t, I don’t understand?” You whisper in frustration while your wary eyes dance from Loki to Mobius and back to Loki once more.
Loki’s face softens, “He told you everything Y/N.”
“I know he did!” You yell harshly, “But I watched my husband die in front of my very eyes and now….you-you’re here and clearly you are a Loki but you’re not my Loki!”
He lowers his head at your irritation, saddened that you aren’t taking to him so kindly as he would have liked. He avoids your heated gaze as you keep the blade in its place by his head. Loki awaits your possible wrath, he doesn’t blame you after all. He never lived all those years after New York with you, never shared those moments together on other planets and places. And he never will.
Your heart hurts and your mind feels foggy with conflicted emotions and feelings all swimming about like a wild riptide. But you couldn’t lie to yourself if you even tried, and although he hasn’t been there with you all along, after all this time, this is him. This is your Loki.
Frowning, you slowly bring your sword back down to your side, “But you are him, aren’t you?” Loki shares a small nod as you calm your breaths again, “No matter what, no matter where….you’re still Loki in every timeline. The Loki I’ve always known.”
His bright blue irises immediately find your weary eyes, “Always.” He then chuckles, “Even if that is unfortunate to some, or most.”
You take a step back before setting the metallic weapon onto Mobius’ desk, turning once more to look at Loki in now a less threatening way, “What about Y/N in your timeline then? She’ll be devastated.”
Mobius points up a finger, “Her story shifts, actually. She goes to earth, becomes an Avenger with Thor. And decides to stay. I think, if they told me right, she finds someone with long dark hair like you.” Adds the grey haired man to Loki. “Point is, it works out. And you two, are still here.”
“We are.” You mutter, eyes trailing around Loki’s handsome features. He looks so different yet the same as he always has. Face chiseled like a marble statue, eyes kind and inviting when focused on you, dark hair slicked back in his usual style. And those beautiful eyes of his, never leaving yours once, they’re the same as they’ve always been.
Except these eyes are not so tired and aged from the passing hardships of time and running and fighting and keeping yourselves alive. They are still bright and wondrous, this Loki hasn’t witnessed the death of his family in real time. The loss of his kingdom or what Thanos would do to him.
He is not the Loki you left in the rubble. However, he is a Loki who loves a Y/N. And it doesn’t matter if you two have personally never met one another like this until now. Because you have met each other before, just in different timelines and in different places.
You let out a sigh as you wander a couple feet away from the two men, eyes back onto Loki as he watches your every move. “The universe took you from me once, somehow, someway….it’s reunited us once more. And I want to hate it, I really do…but I was destined to die, and I didn’t.” You pause a moment before taking a step closer to him, “You are my Loki, in every lifetime, no matter how far we go or what happens. I already know you, probably more then you know yourself at this point.”
Loki chuckles as you share a tearful smile, “But I know one thing…and that you love me, because that’s the first thing you told me when you came back from Midgard. Besides sorry.” You snicker as he gives an embarrassed shrug, “No matter what happens or what timeline we’re in, I will always love you. And I will not fail to protect you ever again.”
Loki purses his lips together into a tearful smile at your words, face softening when you share a small grin of your own. “My dear Y/N, how I’ve missed you.” He mutters before giving the projector a small glance, “I saw our lives, it was beautiful. Truly. Although I was surprised, we got married?”
You nod, “We did, in secret of course. It was during your rule in Asgard when you pretended to be Odin for some time.” You reveal before smiling once again, “Sneaky bastard.”
“Well..” Starts Loki with a handsome grin, “…I’ll do all I can to earn that heart of yours.” Eyes sincere and true while he reaches out to take your hand with his, “To truly deserve it. It’s only right.”
Squeezing his hand, you greet him with a small smirk, “I have a feeling you already have.”

Legacy
Loki Laufeyson x Reader
(Word Count: 1k)
Tumblr media
Your feet were killing you, and you wanted nothing more than to crumble on the spot.
“Heimdall, when will we be done?” You whined.
The great man turned to you, his swift gaze full of everything in and beyond Asgard. You would take his place one day, ascend to the position of Gatekeeper. Heimdall chose you out of millions—you had yet to see the faith he had in you for yourself.
“Lady Y/N, you are impatient. Do not let it overshadow your abilities.” He said. His voice was calm and precise, as your mentor always was.
You nodded solemnly, wiping away the exhaustion from your face. Heimdall had an uncanny talent for commanding such things from you and achieving results that way, too.
His seriousness was sobering—he saw everything, everywhere in the nine realms. All the good, but far more evils than you could imagine.
“You are to return by morning. Go.” He declared. The stoic man raised his brows at you, and gestured towards the exit.
You held in your excitement, and nodded as you all but ran out of the chamber and into the night.
...
You decided that your first night outside of your quarters—your first night in public as Lady Y/N, the future guard of the Bifrost who pledged loyalty to the Allfather and to Asgard, would be beautiful.
You shed your heavy armor for a flowing golden gown, your curls full of gold ribbons and rings were out and free. You kept your sword, though. The large blade was a gift from Heimdall. It couldn’t open the Bifrost, but it was powerful in its own right. It would be your source of strength in the midst of those courtesan vultures.
Swallowing back your nerves, you strolled into the grand hall. First kneeling to Odin, then to the rest of the royal family. Loki in particular, flashed you a gracious smile, his eyes flitting around the room as he did. He was the one to watch because he was always doing the watching. As you rose from the floor, you kept the dark haired trickster accounted for.
“Heimdall has relieved you of your duties, this night?” Odin’s voice boomed throughout the hall.
You tried not to squirm at all the attention; you were beginning to miss the solitude Heimdall offered and why he preferred it.
“Yes, Allfather. I am to return by first light.” Odin nodded, and you were free to roam the party.
Your presence at court was a rarity, and you were subsequently dragged around like a shiny, new toy. Lady Sif and the Warriors Three pulled you into their group, bombarding you with questions about your new position at Heimdall’s side. Could you see all nine realms? Was Heimdall always so stern? Had you held the key to the Bifrost?
After some time, you excused yourself, narrowly avoiding curious courtesans and leering drunkards. You found peace in a small alcove just off the main corridor. You leaned on the wall, taking in the sights from the large, open columns. The stars above sparkled in a wide arc over the kingdom, bathing your brown skin in their soft glow.
“The great Heimdall has let his dear protégé out to play, and she runs from us.”
Your hand immediately flew to your sword, only backing down at the sight of the other prince of Asgard. Loki was always a wily thing––his presence had a sneaking habit of interrupting the peace, not easing it. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up.
“My prince, forgive me.” You said, rising to your full height. Loki just laughed at your startled expression.
“It has been so long, Y/N.” He continued, stepping forward with a sort of careful precision.
Keeping Loki in the corner of your eye, you stared out at glorious Asgard, the place you would one day come to defend.
“It was too loud for me. I am not used to so many sounds.” You admitted.
You had no clue as to why you were telling Loki anything, let alone something personal. He was the cunning, observant prince who always seemed to be waiting in the wings. Nothing like his brother in the least bit. At least with Thor, you knew what you were getting.
“I find it rather unfair that Heimdall keeps you locked away.”
You tore your gaze from the great kingdom and towards Loki. His eyes told so many stories. They were a gorgeous blue, made even more alluring with how sad they were. Longing danced across his features in that closed off way he did things.
“I must be ready to one day take his place and watch over the Bifrost. There will never be enough time to learn.” You said.
A gentle hand tilted your chin upwards. You froze at the contact. One of the benefits of having Heimdall as a guide was his distinct understanding of space. Loki had no such understanding.
Effectively silenced by the unfamiliar feeling, you allowed Loki’s hand to drop from your chin to your hand. The brief break in touch forced you back into reality. You jolted back, your dress swaying with you. You craned your neck up at him in anticipation.
“I swore an oath to your father and I will not break it. I am duty bound to that bridge, not to the attraction of a prince of Asgard. No matter how endearing.” You told him, finally.
Loki’s composure never broke. His lips drew together in a tight line, but it was his eyes that gave him away. The prince’s face may have been cool and unsuspecting to a servant or courtesan passing by, but you were taught to see past the veil, even if you did not speak on it. You had to see through it.
You paused. Heimdall would have given Loki an unyielding, straight forward reply. He would have left immediately, and spent the remainder of the night in his chambers.
You were not him.
A rush of something you did not understand stirred within you. It wasn’t love or fear or sadness–– it was you, wholly you.
“Tomorrow I will be a guardian of the Bifrost again.” You started, pressing a hand on the sly prince’s chest, “Do you know what I am, right now?”
Loki was no fool. He felt the heat from your warm body and the weight of your hand on his own.
“Utterly magnificent.”

Inside Out
Chapter 4
Pairing- Loki x Reader
Warning-cursing and childhood trauma
Your thoughts and other characters are in italics.
Flashbacks are in bold.
Tumblr media
“The celebration had been going on strong for the last few hours, and there wasn’t an end in sight. Asgardians strolled through the streets, rejoicing the fact that the Nine Realms were safe at last. Friends laughed, kids played, and warriors recounted their many victorious battles.
Y/n,Gambit,Sif, and The warrior three are all drinking in the castle, until Y/n starts to get flashes of Loki. He was in the scorching sun day in and day out,and they deprive him of water for weeks, and someone used the mind stone on him. Outside her head all the glass bottles and wine glasses bust, and Gambit immediately looks over at Y/n and see the black vines on her arm but before he could make his way over to her but time freeze.
Y/n gets up and runs to the dungeon, when she gets there she just stands in front of Loki’s cell looking down at her feet. Having a hard time looking at him and not see what she saw.
“Y/n, what’s going on?” Loki said as he looks around and see everyone is frozen. “Are you doing this?”
“why didn’t you tell me....why didn’t you tell me you were tortured.” Y/n questioned.
Loki looks at Y/n with wide eyes. “How do you do know that.”
“The stars, our minds all of that is Connected remember. How you not tell me.” Y/n said with Infrequent blinking.
“I didn’t want you to see that.” Loki answered.
“You were alone before you came to earth.” Y/n said as a tear rolls down her face.
The Black vines starts to slowly climb up her arm and appear on her face. Loki see that Y/n is in distress from what she learned. He knows what will happen if he let her feel those emotions. So he walks up the to the shield and use his up most calming and soothing voice he could muster at a time like this.
“It’s ok I’m fine Y/n look at me look at me.” Loki pleased.
Y/n looks at Loki with an empty stare. “No it’s not fine.....you were tortured. You were tortured into do what you did on earth. You was being watched. Even if I was aware of what was going on with you there was nothing I could’ve done. Nothing you could’ve done cause if you would’ve said or done anything differently they would’ve killed you.”
“I tried my best to get to rid those memory. I knew you would be able to feel it.” Loki said.
“I never wanted to experience those feeling.....not again?” Y/n quavered. “Not again.”
“What do you mean by ‘not again’?” Loki dais with a firm voice.
“The people that took me did this to me they put someone else’s X-Gene inside of me and I have to learn how to control it....and when I couldn’t control it they would put a collar around my neck then throw me into a dark room. The feeling of loneliness every day inside that room...if it wasn’t for Gambit....” Y/n trailed off. But Loki knew what she was going to say.
“I’m so sorry. I am here.” Loki puts he’s hand on over the Barrier of the cell walk and Y/n copies his movement.
“The person that did that to you.” Robin started. “What was there name?”
“Thanos” Loki answered.
“Thanos.”

At that same time, back on Asgard, Heimdall, the all-seeing keeper of the Rainbow Bridge, stood at his post at the edge of the observatory, scanning the cosmos. He did not turn when Thor approached, but spoke as soon as the prince was behind him.
“You're late.” Heimdall announced.
“Merriment can sometimes be a heavier burden than battle.” Thor stated.
“Then you're doing one of them incorrectly.” Heimdall commented.
Thor chuckles. “Perhaps. How fare the stars?”
“Still shining. From here I can see Nine Realms and ten trillion souls.” Heimdall looks at Thor for a moment. “You recall what I told you of the Convergence?”
“Yes, the alignment of the worlds. It approaches, doesn't it?” Thor asked.
“The universe hasn't seen this marvel since before my watch began. Few can sense, even fewer can see it. A world that's infected can be dangerous. It is truly beautiful.” Heimdall explained.
They looks out into the stars. “I see nothing.”
“Or perhaps that is not the beauty you seek.”
Thor laughs. “How is she?”
“She's quite clever, your mortal. She doesn't know it yet, but she studies the Convergence as well. Even...” Heimdall stops as he senses something.”
“What?” Thor stressed.
“I can't see her.”

We see Jane being infected by the Aether] [after Jane is infected with the Aether she reawakens in the factory, she runs out to find Darcy has called the police.
“Jane! Where the hell were you?” Darcy exclaimed.
“Tell me you didn't call the police!” Jane inquired.
“What was I supposed to do?” Darcy asked.
“Not call the police!” Jane yelled.
“I was freaking out.” Darcy stuttered.
“You call the cops they tell the feds, the next thing you know we have Shield crawling all over area fifty-one-ing the place.” Jane proclaimed.
“Jane!”
“We had a stable gratification anomaly, we had unheeded access. Our only competition was ten years old!”
“Jane, you were gone for five hours!” Darcy disclosed.
“What?....”
Suddenly the weather turns, it starts raining and they hear the sound of thunder, Jane looks around her and puts her hand out.
“That's weird.” Darcy noted.
They see it's raining but it's not raining on Jane and Darcy, there's an invisible barrier protecting them, suddenly Jane sees Thor standing a few feet away from them, Jane hands her gadget to Darcy and walks towards Thor, as she walks away the invisible barrier follows her and the rain starts falling on Darcy.
“Typical.”
Jane walks towards Thor.
“Jane.”
“As she reaches him suddenly she slaps him hard in the face. “Sorry. I just needed to make sure you were real, it's been a very strange day.”
“Well, I am. Jane...”
Suddenly she slaps him again. “Where were you?!”
“Where were you? Heimdall could not see you.” Thor said.
“I was right here where you left me. I was waiting and then I was crying and then I went out looking for you. You said you were coming back.” Jane said in a level tone.
“I know, I know, but the Bifrost was destroyed. The Nine Realms erupted into chaos, wars were raging, marauding hordes were pillaging. I had to put an end to the slaughter.” Thor explained.
“As excuses go, that's not terrible. But I saw you on TV, you were...you were in New York! Fighting with Y/n.” Jane said without trying to sound Jealous.
But she was he was spending all that time with Y/n. Ok she was the only person that believe him but Jane did to (with reason).
Does Thor have Heimdall to look in on Y/n.
“Jane, I fought to protect you from the dangers of my world, but I was wrong, I was a fool.” Thor places his hand Jane's face. “I believe that fate brought us together. Jane, I don't know where you were or what happened, but I do know this.”
“What?”
“I know...”
“You do?”
“Do what?”
They lean in close and just as they are about to kiss Darcy interrupts them; referring to the rain.
“Hey! Is that you?”
Thor looks up and the rain stops.
“Uh...we're kind of in the middle of something.” Jane sigh of irritation as she look at Darcy.
“Um...I'm pretty sure we are getting arrested” Darcy replied.
Jane look over at Thor. “Hold that thought.” She turns and runs towards the police.
“Look at you, still all muscly and everything. How's space?” Darcy asked.
“Space is fine.” Thor answered.
Jane walks over to the police. “Excuse me?”
“Are you Jane Foster?” One of police officer asked.
“Yes.”
“Do you know this man?” police officer said referring to Ian.
“He's my intern. My intern's intern.” Jane answered.
“This is private property and you're trespassing, the lot of you. You'll have to come with me.” The police officer goes t grab Jane's arm but suddenly the force from the Aether creates a powerful force which pushes the officer and everything else away,
Thor runs towards Jane who's lying on the ground.
“Jane! Jane?” Thor said as he helps her stand. “You alright?”
“What just happened?” Jane asked.
The other police officer approaches Jane apprehensively. “Place your hands on your head, step back!”
“The woman is unwell.” Thor answered.
“She's dangerous.”
“So am I.” Thor disclosed.
Talking into his radio. “Requesting armed response officers to the scene.” Thor grabs Jane and pulls her closer to him.
“Hold on to me.”
“What are you doing?” Suddenly the Bifrost opens and Thor takes Jane to Asgard; Darcy looks up as they disappear
“Holy shit!” Darcy shouted.
Thor and Jane travel through the Bifrost and enter Asgard where Heimdall is guarding as always, Jane looks around her in amazement.
“We have to do that again.” she notices Heimdall for the first time. “Hi.”
“Welcome to Asgard.” Heimdall announced.

Returning to their homeland, Svartalfheim, Malekith kneels and grabs a handful of dust from the ground. “Look at my legacy, Algrim. I barely remember the time before light.”
Algrim places his hand on Malekith's shoulder. “Our survival will be your legacy.”
“The Asgardians will suffer as we have suffered. I will reclaim the Aether. I will restore our world and I'll put an end to this poisonous world.” Malekith replied.

Asgard.
Loki is laying down on his bed, think about what happened the other day. The way Y/n was angry for him and what he saw. He didn’t know if he deserve such passion. What has he done to deserve that from her.
Maybe Odin is right
Y/n appeared in his cell, looks over at her and see she’s looks upset.
“What’s the matter? Did you have a another memory?” Loki said sitting up.
“No.... I just had to say goodbye to Gambit that all.” Y/n said with a downturned head.
“Gambit, he’s alive?” Loki questioned looking shocked.
“Yes, he is. Why you asked me that?” Y/n wondered then realization hits her. “Did you see one of my memories?”
Loki nods yes.
“Which one?” Y/n said with an intriguing voice.
“He was dying.” Loki answered.
“Oh.....that one.” Y/n said in a small voice. “That day would ever be known as November 18th. That was the day I lost control...caused an earthquake and black out in the upper east of the United States.”
“What happened?” Loki wondered.
“I had a nightmare but it wasn’t like any other nightmare it was vivid. I the way his blood felt on my hands. I ever since that day my father was trying to find ways to conceal my powers and when he did I will get the senses when something good or bad was gonna happen sometimes it was painful sometimes it wasn’t.” Y/n explained.
“You’re the only person I’ve ever told that to.”
Loki walks over to Y/n and lif her head up with his index finger so she’s looking at him. “Why would you tell me?”
“I don’t know it just felt like the right thing to do.” Y/n answered smile. “That’s what you do when you care about someone you open up to them.”
“You caring for me only make things worst.” Loki said with his head down. “After your two weeks you will never see me again. You dealing with the feeling of yearning will not be good for you or your powers.”
“My powers?” Y/n said in a curious tone. “What makes you think I won’t stay on Asgard?”
“Y/n...you just got someone you care about back into your life and you would willingly leave them behind for me?”
“Gambit, with understand.” Y/n replied.
“You would hate to living here on Asgard.”
“No, I won’t because you’re here.”
Loki walks over to Y/n and lif her head up with his index finger so she’s looking at him. “Y/n, when your two weeks are up....you are going to have to let me go?”
“No..No I’m not letting anything go.” Y/n said putting some space between her and Loki. “And don’t you say if you love me let me go.”
“If you don’t you could hurt people.” Loki said walking up to Y/n hugging her from the back.
“Since when do you care about people?” Y/n asked sarcastically.
“Because your care about people.” Loki answered.
Y/n turns around and gives Loki Direct eye contact. “Don’t ask me to let you go because I won’t.”
“Y/n....” Loki said struggling to find the right words to say.
“I should go I have to met your mom.” Y/n said.
And just like that Y/n is gone and Loki stands there facial muscles tensing.

As the Asgardian physicians study Jane and the force within her. “What's that?”
“Be still.” Eir said in a snappy voice.
Thor watches with one of the nurses as they examine Jane. “This is not of Earth, what is it?”
“We do not know, but she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her.” the nurse turns and walks away as Thor looks at Jane with worry.
“That's a quantum field generator, isn't it?” Jane asked.
“It's a Soul Forge.” Eir answered.
“Does a Soul Forge transfer molecular energy from one place to another?” Jane questioned.
Eir looks impressed. “Yes.”
Jane looks at Thor and whispers. “It's a quantum field generator.” Thor smiles at her.
Odin enters the room as the Thor looks on to Jane as she is being examined. “My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?”
”She's ill.” Thor disclosed.
“She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait.” Odin replied.
“I brought here because we can help her.” Thor told Odin.
“She does not belong here in Asgard anymore than a goat belongs at a banquet table.“ Odin replied.
Jane sits up and looks at Thor. “Did he just...?” Jane started. “Who do you think you are?”
“I'm Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms.” Odin answered.
“Oh. Well, I'm...”
“I know very well who you are, Jane Foster.”
Jane turns to look at Thor. “You told your Dad about me?”
“Something is within her, father, something I have not seen before.” Thor explained.
“Her world has its healers, their called doctors, let them deal with it. Guards, take her back to Midgard.” Odin said as two guards approach Jane and go to grab her, suddenly the energy force within her sets off again throwing the two guards aside.
“Don't touch her.” Thor said as he leans down and tenderly touches Jane. “Jane, are you alright?”
Jane nods her head, Odin inspects the energy force running through Jane's body and realizes it's the Aether. “That's impossible.”
“The infection, it's defending her.” Eir said in a shocked face.
“No, it's defending itself.” Thor corrected.
“Come with me. There are relics that predate the universe itself. What lies within her appears to be one of them. The Nine Realms are not eternal. They had a dawn as they will have a dusk.” Odin said showing Thor and Jane an ancient book. “But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged.”
Thor reading from the book. “Born of eternal night, the Dark Elves comes to steal away your light. They were these stories mother told us as children.”
“Their leader, Malekith made a weapon out of that darkness, it was called the Aether. While the other relics often appeared as stones, the Aether is fluid and ever changing. It changes matter into dark matter and seeks out to host bodies, drawing strength from their life force. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But after eternities of blood shed, my father Bor, finally triumphed, ushering in the peace that lasted thousands of years.”
“What happened?” Jane chimed in.
“He killed them all.” Odin answered.
“Are you certain? The Aether was said to have been destroyed with them and yet here it is.” Thor specified.
“The Dark Elves are dead.” Odin commented.
“Does your book happen to mention how to get it out of me?” Jane questioned.
“No, it does not.”

Y/n is sitting crisscross apple sauce in her room’s balcony. Thinking about what happened between her and Loki.
Was that our first fight?
Y/n’s emotions were at a frenzy. She didn’t understand why Loki was acting like that. She wanted to be mad. Something happened to change his mind on everything.
What if i’m overthinking it Gambit did say I think and feel more then anyone else
Y/n let’s out a sigh of irritation.
“It’s ok if my thoughts run a mile but focus on one.” Y/n said closing her eye.
So am I supposed to just sit here.
Yes I am going to be spinning this day with my daughter
Y/n can hear Frigga’s voice clear as day. She doesn’t know if it’s was her inner or outer voice.
“I didn’t know Thor had a sister.” Y/n mumbled to herself.
Y/n gets a knock on her door and she opens it with the flick of her hand.
“So I see your trying to meditate that’s a good start.” Frigga said walking in the room. The door shut close as Frigga makes her way over to Y/n.
“Yes. But I’m failing miserably at it.” Y/n laughed at herself. “I learned that my mind is a satellite. I’m always going to pick up others people thoughts. So I had to learn how to store them in the back of my mind. But even then it still feels crowded.”
“You poor dear, I can not imagine how you feel but I think I can help. Close your eyes imagine everything in your head.” Frigga said.
Y/n takes a deep breath and closes her eyes.
“Now I want you to think of the similarities of Asgard and Midgard.” Frigga said.
“That’s kind of hard Asgard is beautiful while Earth only as hidden gems.....the sunset are beautiful.” Y/n answered.
“When you think of the sun, what do you think of?” Frigga asked.
“Warm light.”
“And what is light?”
“Electricity....and electricity is power.”
“How does one turn off power?” Frigga wondered.
“By flipping a switch.” Y/n grinned.
“Now turn it off switch.” Frigga told Y/n.
Y/n flips a switch off in her mind and everything going quite. She opens her eyes and looks up at Frigga smiling.
“It’s gone. It’s not crowded anymore. Thank you.” Y/n rejoiced.
A rainbow appears in the sky as all the clouds disappear. Y/n gets up from the ground and hugs Frigga, then immediately letting her go.
She’s a queen you have to remember that
“Oh I’m so sorry.” Y/n said with a downward gaze.
Frigga smiles. “Y/n, it is fine.” Frigga looks out and sees a rainbow. “That wouldn’t be your doing would is?”
“Sorry.” Y/n goes to fix the sky but Frigga stops her.
“I think it’s rather lovely.”
Y/n smiles at Frigga.

back on Svartalfheim, in his ship Malekith plots his vengeance against the Asgardians.
“The Realms will be aligned soon.” Malekith takes out a knife and turns to Algrim.“You'll be the last of the Kursed.”
Malekith stabs Algrim in the stomach with his knife. “Let my life be sacrificed. The same as our people.”
“You will become darkness, doomed to this existence until it consumes you.” Malekith started. One of the dark elves places a molten rock in Malekith's hand and Malekith places it inside Algrim's stomach. “And then no power of our enemies will stop me.”
“I'll destroy their defenses and resurrect the universe.” Malekith looks to one of his dark elves as he carries a mask.
A/n- I can’t believe the Loki tv show season one is done. (Sigh) I guess I’ll be waiting.

the bifrost incident. any schoolchild could tell you about it. the fall of the old order; two hundred years of asgardian hubris come together in a single epoch-defining event. the maiden voyage of a train through the stars, vanished without a trace. for decades it had been old lady odin’s passion project, her long-sought legacy: shoot a locomotive through that man-made rainbow wormhole, cut the time between worlds from three months to three days. all the tests had been passed with quite literal flying colours, and the train was deemed safe. and what a train it was: gilded with gold and swirls of bismuth mosaic. every high-up, well-to-do, nose-turning asgardian hobnob was on that first trip, or risk ofin’s displeasure. so when it didn’t come out the other side.. who's left to rule?
so the chaos that ensued, no one really had a chance to see what happened to the train itself. and that’s where I come in, Inspector 2nd class lyfrassir edda, new midgard transport police. because the ratatosk express has finally arrived in midgard, 80 years late. there's nothing left, except the twisted ruin of the engine room and a couple of warped skeletons. and the black box. it’s as much a history project as a crime scene at this point, but combing through the data still comes down to me.
first recording is odin’s launching speech. almost a century ruling asgard, you’d think she’d be a better public speaker, not rambling on about the glories of her pet science project, as though exporting quicker tyranny to midgard was all she'd ever dreamed of.

poison & wine masterlist
After a few minutes, Loki was forced to let you go. You had yet to stop crying and he didn’t know what he was meant to do if this continued on. He couldn’t take you back to the palace in this state but he couldn’t stay on the bridge any longer and risk someone finding you like this too.
“Mount my horse,” Loki instructs you as he leads you to the black stallion adorned in his colors. “You’re in no state to ride back on your own so you’ll ride with me.”
“But…” you whisper as your stare turns to the horse you had brought along.
“I’ll send someone to come pick him up,” Loki assures you. “Just get on my horse.”
Loki watches as you climb onto his horse and settle into his saddle. When he’s convinced you won’t do anything brash, which he isn’t entirely convinced at the moment, Loki steps away.
“I’ll be back. Just wait for me.”
You don’t argue when he turns away and leaves you behind. You simply watch as he makes his way into the dome.
“Is the Lady Y/N alright?” Heimdall asks as the prince enters.
“Yes, no thanks to you.”
“I knew you would catch her, your majesty,” Heimdall remarks. “There was no need for me to intervene.”
Loki shakes his head at the guardian knowing that there was no point in arguing further.
“What did you tell her, Heimdall?” Loki asks as he glared up at the All-Seer.
“She wanted to know who her father is,” Heimdall answers. “I reminded her that my loyalty is to the king.”
“Don’t drag this out,” Loki snaps. “She’s deeply upset. What did you tell her?”
Heimdall knows better than to reveal such a secret to the prince. You had come to the truth on your own and the prince would have to do the same.
“I gave her clues to lead her to an altogether different truth,” Heimdall states. “She was smart enough to find it.”
Loki hated when Heimdall spoke in riddles but that was all the All-Seer was going to give him. The only way he would find out would be through you if you allowed him to know.
He turns his back with the intent of heading back to you but Heimdall wasn’t done with him yet.
“This game you’re playing with her at the moment,” Heimdall speaks. “I suggest you put an end to it.”
“Is that a threat?”
“No,” Heimdall answers as his stare shifts to watch something else entirely. “But it can be.”
Loki scoffs and walks away.
He held no fear towards the All-Seer and his attempts of intimidation but he couldn’t help but keep the warning in mind. There must be a reason for it and Loki had every intention in figuring it out.
Tumblr media
The ride was silent and slow. Neither of you were willing to be the first to speak and perhaps it all had to do with the distraction of the thoughts revolving in your mind. You had broken down and out of everyone, it was in front of Loki. You didn’t know how to manage that situation. In fact, you didn’t know how you were meant to manage any situation at all.
You were in Asgard, a thousand light years away from your home on Earth, and you had found your answer. The answer being something you already knew. That you were on your own.
“We’re here.”
You frown when you realize that Loki had steered the horse out of the palace path into some unknown forest.
“Where are we?” you ask as Loki leads the horse under the shade of a nearby tree.
“We’re just outside of the city gates,” Loki answers as he dismounts from his horse. “There’s a small river nearby where Thor and I used to play. It’s relatively safe and out of the way that no one ever thinks of coming through here.”
“But why?”
“Your eyes are still red from crying,” Loki points out. “We can go back if you like but I believe you and I would prefer to avoid the royal court's attention on this matter.”
Loki had a point and so you agree on the break. You dismount and the moment you’re off, Loki is quick to whisper something to the horse before sending him off.
“He’ll be back when I call for him,” Loki tells you. “Just sent him out to get a drink.”
You nod at his explanation and allow yourself to relax. You take a deep breath of fresh air and take a seat on the shaded grass. Loki follows suit leaning against the tree.
“Are you going to tell me what you and Heimdall spoke of?”
You let out a sigh knowing you had to.
“I asked him about my father,” you answer as you wrap your arms around your knees to rest your head upon. “Heimdall couldn’t tell me much but the little he managed to give away … well, it was enough for me to come to a big conclusion.”
“Which was?”
“The reason why my father never came back for me and my mother is because he died before he was able to do so,” you can’t help the dark chuckle that escapes you. “My life is not at risk. I was safe all along apparently.”
You’re met with silence which doesn’t surprise you. Loki stares out into the forest in front of you and lets out a sigh.
“I… I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you tell him. “I found the answer I was looking for. All matters have been put to rest.”
“But…”
“No, there’s no more buts, I just… I just want to move past this.”
“Y/N.”
You look over at Loki who’s watching you with that same concern he had when he caught you from falling to your death.
“What?” you ask.
“I am not the best at managing my emotions but even I know that you can’t simply move past this.”
He was right but you didn’t want to admit that to him. You wanted to be numb and remain numb.
“I don’t want to cry anymore,” you whisper. “I don’t…”
“You don’t what?” Loki asks.
You swallow not wanting to admit what you feared the most.
“I don’t want to be alone anymore,” you whisper. “But I don’t… I don’t have anyone. There’s no one left.”
“You have friends down in Midgard,” Loki reminds you. “The Man of Iron and the Captain… the Witch and the Widow.”
“I can’t call them my friends when all I do is push them away because I’m afraid of growing attached,” you answer. “You and I both know that I will outlive them all anyway and then I’ll be left on my own once again so what’s the point? My father was the only person I could rely on and it turns out he’s been dead all along.”
“Y/N…”
“People aren’t meant to be alone. We need a community. We need companionship,” you explain. “I thought I could go without but I have been on my own for two centuries and I can’t take it anymore. So what am I meant to do now? What is there left for me to do?”
You lean against the tree in resignation trying to find your own answer to the questions you’ve been asking since you left Heimdall.
“Your father, though he is dead, must have left you a legacy to follow through,” Loki tells you. “All we need to do is find it.”
“Loki…” you sigh out unsure why he was so intent in dragging this out longer.
“Just listen,” he interrupts you. “I looked through the travel records and found nothing.”
“Ok?” you answer confused as to how that mattered. “Maybe someone forgot to write it down.”
“We are precise here in Asgard. Such a thing wouldn’t happen,” Loki explains. “Which leaves a unique conclusion to explain it all.”
“That is…?”
“Your father, whatever his role in court was, must have been very important and private for his travel records to Midgard to be sealed. Only Odin has access to those.”
“But what kind of… That doesn’t make any sense,” you stammer out. “What could he be doing down on Earth that it had to be kept secret?”
“I don’t know,” Loki answers. “If you no longer wish to find your father, I will let the matter rest but I believe you owe it to yourself to know.”
You let out a sigh.
Loki seemed genuinely invested in helping you now. It made you suspicious.
“You’re not trying to convince me because you still need me to fake court you, are you?”
“No,” Loki smiles. “I have a feeling you would regret missing the opportunity to find some real answers. You deserve to know the truth.”
You knew he was right. If you went back to Earth empty-handed, you would regret it for the rest of your life.
“Ok, I’m in,” you tell him. “You get me my answers and I’ll keep fake courting you.”
“It’s a deal,” Loki agrees. “Are you ready to head back?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” you sigh out.
Loki stands up and offers his hand for you to take so you do. He pulls you up and surprisingly doesn’t let your hand go.
“I uh…” Loki hesitates for a moment before continuing. “I thought I should let you know that… that you’re not alone.”
“How so?” you ask him.
You couldn’t help the smile that fought its way to your lips. He was suddenly nervous that he couldn’t even meet your eyes anymore.
“You have me,” Loki answers. “I am an immortal with nothing but time in my hands. I can be there for you for as many years as you have left.”
You squeeze his hand in gratitude and he finally meets your stare.
“I would like that,” you tell him. “Thank you.”
Loki nods at your answer and lets go of your hand. He clears his throat and the simple gesture shifts him back to his usual princely self. He turns away from you and whistles causing his horse to trot back to you instantly.
Loki grabs the reigns and motions for you to mount first. Once you’re settled, he climbs up and settles himself behind you.
“We should probably come up with a story as to why we left the palace to visit Heimdall,” you tell Loki as he pulls you back to the palace path.
“Simple, you wanted to check in on your friends in Midgard,” Loki answers. “And if someone asks if you’ve been crying just tell them the truth.”
“My father’s dead?” you ask confused.
“No,” Loki objects quickly. “I was referring to your bridge incident.”
You can’t help but be shocked at the reminder.
“I can’t believe I almost fell off the Bifrost,” you mutter in realization. You look back at him with a laugh. “There should really be some kind of warning sign to prevent another accident like mine.”
“A warning sign?” Loki mocks. “It’s common sense to not get close to the ledge.”
You can’t help but laugh and continue to pester him for a solution.
“Ok then maybe set up some rails or a fence,” you offer. “Your first order of business when you become king is to put some rails up.”
Loki shakes his head as you continue to ramble on possible solutions for him to consider. You look back at him in amusement and he can’t help but smile in response. The return of your happiness was contagious and he allowed himself the peaceful reprieve of it.

A deeper look at Merci Miles: (Warner Records, 2021)
Tumblr media
Miles Davis: trumpet; Kenny Garrett: saxophone; Deron Johnson: keyboard; Richard Patterson: bass; Ricky Wellman: drums
By July, 1991 Miles Davis was music royalty.  The previous decade saw him reach a level of popularity and stardom seldom seen in jazz.  By the early 80’s the trumpeter had changed music multiple times, 4 to be exact, with his foray into hip hop, the first recording to be issued after his death Doo Bop (Warner Bros, 1992) , marking the fifth groundbreaking turn in his career.  Prior to his passing from stroke complications in 1991, he maintained a vigorous touring schedule, and the performances of his sextet of the period, the finest late career band he ever led (and arguably one of the best bands of his entire career) were supercharged.  The music captured on the newly released Merci Miles: Live at Vienne (Rhino, 2021) marks the first time anywhere save two YouTube videos the concert has been available in full, and is significant and historically important for two reasons:  it is one of Miles’ final performances in France available legally, and it features two compositions by Prince, the cheeky entendre laden titles “Penetration” and “Jailbait” that the late icon wrote specifically for Davis.
The picture of the late singer/composer/multi instrumentalist’s involvement with Davis is much clearer through the release of Prince’s own Sign O’ The Times multi disc mega box set and the official release of “Can I Play With U?” a track originally written by The Purple One during the legendary Rubberband (Rhino, 2018) sessions.   Prince’s track was going to be included on what eventually turned out to be Davis’ first album with his new label, Warner Bros. Tutu (1986) but was eventually shelved.  The track was then slated to be issued in the original, much more substantial The Last Word: The Complete Warner Brothers Recordings box set from the early 2000’s (of which promo copies existed) but was fazed out due to rights issues.
The trumpeter always regarded France warmly, from the time he first set foot on French soil as a 22 year old in 1949.  The country was also where in the late 1950’s he recorded the innovative soundtrack to Elevator To The Gallows or Ascenseur pour l’echafaud director Louis Malle’s smoky noir film of which the trumpeter’s soundtrack, completely improvised featuring a top French rhythm section crystallized some of the ideas the trumpeter later would apply on Kind of Blue (Columbia, 1959).  France was also the setting for the infamous romance with the late French starlet Juliette Greco.  More importantly, France, being the first country to wholeheartedly embrace jazz and recognize creative improvised Black music to be on par with European art music, was ready for whatever Davis brought to the table, instead of the misdirected pining that many fans and critics demonstrated in the U.S. for his past, acoustic centered work.
Merci Miles was captured on July 1, 1991 at the Jazz a Vienne festival, at a picturesque Roman amphitheater filled to capacity.  7 days later on July 8, Miles would revisit the material from Porgy and Bess, Miles Ahead and Sketches of Spain at the Montreux Jazz Festival  with a double orchestra conducted by Quincy Jones and featuring the late trumpeter Wallace Roney as a second voice alongside occasional spots for alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett.    The appearance featuring this music was followed by an appearance with former band mates in Paris on July 10 (a concert that unfortunately of this writing is  being thieved by bootleggers for album release), and the European swing wrapped up in Nice, France on July 16th.
Miles’ band that July 1st evening, featuring Deron Johnson (who grew up with Miles’ nephew and former drummer Vince Wilburn, Jr) on keyboards; Kenny Garrett on alto saxophone and flute) lead bassist and Parliament alumnus Foley, bassist Richard Patterson, and the late Ricky Wellman on drums were inspired and smoking.
“Hannibal” written by Marcus Miller, which appeared on the group’s latest studio album Amandla (1989) is the high energy set opener, with the rhythm section of Johnson, Patterson and Wellman in perfect sync.  Miles flies free with some solo lines before the head appears, and Kenny Garrett makes his first appearance with a lengthy solo.  Garrett (who has a new Mack Avenue studio album in August) is like a heat seeking missile, the rhythm section responding and creating inner dialogues with him in response to his impassioned, pulpit stirring cries.  Deron Johnson, often alongside with Garrett in taking some of the best solos of the evening, briefly dialogues with Miles before spinning off into his own, substantial solo turn.  Johnson is a complete history of the keyboardist’s who played with the trumpeter and distills everything in his sparkling, distinctive soloing voice, swinging slightly behind the beat against the mightily funky bass and drums underneath.
“Human Nature”, the classic ballad   from Michael Jackson’s Thriller (Epic, 1982) Davis first debuted on You’re Under Arrest (Columbia, 1985).  The sensuous existential track became a blank canvas for the Davis band to paint on nightly.  The trumpeter renders the melody with longing, then gradually shifts into a resourceful solo with a double time sprint.  Within Davis’ solo and the use of Spanish tinged scales, and the colorful keyboard backing, the intense drama of the beautiful arrangements that Gil Evans crafted for Sketches of Spain (Columbia, 1959) which Marcus Miller expanded upon in a sense for the film soundtrack Siesta (Warner Bros, 1989) are clearly felt.  Davis quotes “Nature Boy” and a few other asides before passing the baton to Garrett, who used the tune as a nightly feature for intense late period Coltrane trance like meditation.  Garrett fits in a quote of the old spiritual “Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho” before rocketing into space; Wellman in particular follows him wherever he goes.  Every now and then Miles jabs some mood setting chords with his Oberheim OBX synth as cues, while Garrett continues to combust.  The saxophonist bursting at the seams as a fragment from the bridge to “Milestones” is used as an ostinato, Davis signals a quick blast with his trumpet and the tune ends.  Garrett brought the audience and listeners at home on a thrill ride.
“Time After Time” , the Cyndi Lauper classic is ushered in as volcanic applause erupts from the audience, nearly drowning  out the music.  For 9 and a half minutes, the show belongs to Davis, as he gently finds all the melodic contours he can in the tune.  Like “Round Midnight” and “My Funny Valentine” of decades past, “Time After Time” became one of Davis’ signature ballads.  He drives his improvisation the same way  as Aretha Franklin, Pavarotti, Bocelli or Carreras would, with a marked sense of passion and timeless beauty.
Disc 1 closes with one of the Prince tunes, “Penetration” where everyone gets off on the raunchy funk.  Davis and Garrett are one during the track, and it truly shows the admiration and border less musicality that both icons would have shared, Davis struts with swagger between melody statements and Johnson rips into his solo with passion, Garrett’s searing alto ups the ante further.  As a contrast, “Jailbait” on disc 2, is a gut bucket blues where both Johnson and Garrett take scintillating solos..
The show closes with “Wrinkle” a wondrous maze of a melody that is awe inspiring when played a top speed, and “Finale” a drum solo feature for Wellman that showcases his patented bass drum triplets while keeping rock solid time on the snare, a sort of shuffle where the bass and snare switch roles, and some lightning samba as well as his signature Go-Go groove.
Sound:
Merci Miles is taken directly from the original tapes recorded and mixed by Patrick Savey and Mastered by John Webber at Air Studios in London.  Similar to Sony/Legacy’s Bootleg Series releases for Davis, the tape is from the official broadcast, in this case captured by the small Zycopolis studios.  Curiously for 1991, the sound is mono which could be due to whatever technical limitations of the tape, but it is very good strong mono.  The Schiit Bifrost 2 DAC manages to wring out very nice separation for the band in the mono soundstage: In particular, Davis trumpet is vibrant, brassy, golden and present.  Richard Patterson’s bass is commanding and takes the center of the sound stage, deep and rich.  Ricky Wellman’s drums are full of gusto, there is a reason his nickname was “Sugarfoot” and you hear that in all it’s glory.  Kenny Garrett’s passion radiates past the speakers, Deron Johnson’s keyboards float above the proceedings and Foley’s lead bass provides a wonderful textural contrast to everything else.
Concluding Thoughts:
The 80’s and early 90’s Miles cannon  has seen relatively scant archival releases versus everything from the 50’s-70’s.  Merci Miles is a welcome document of a band that truly was at the top of it’s game and at the peak of its powers.  Miles Davis, judging from this concert was showing little sign of slowing down in his playing, there is a vitality and joy here that  easily places this alongside his Montreux concerts of the period and the excellent Live Around The World (Warner Brothers, 1996).  A wonderful present honoring the great musical icon thirty years on from his passing.  The CD (reviewed here) and LP packages contain some particularly touching photos in a triple gatefold in the French Flag colors of Miles memorabilia from that final tour provided by Vince Wilburn, Jr and a superb liner essay from noted scholar Ashley Kahn contextualizing the history of the trumpeter’s French sojourns and the event itself, alongside some great photos.  The cover also features some nice embossing of the album title text and Davis’ name.  If there is any doubt about physical media, this album is a compelling case for why it’s so good to OWN a physical copy of an album.

Oh my goshhh!!! Loyalty is frigging amazing!!!! That fic is so beautiful.. I just... there's no words, man. What happens next? How do they plot? Does he kill Odin and Thor? Can you please tag me when you write the spin off (not to be rude but how long will that take? I am just soooo excited) ❤❤
Gather round children! I am not going to write any story of how Loki’s story matches up with the MCU, and while the sequel I’ve plotted will feature bits of this, it will really only hint at what happened to Loki. So, because I think everyone deserves an explanation, here is how Loyalty!Loki progressed through the movies.
Loyalty post-story explanation:
The plot continues up to Thor as you’d imagine.
Brilliant actor that he would be, Loki pretends to be absolutely fine with all slights and fakes that he has gotten over his lost love. Because no one in his family pays attention to him, no one at court notices anything is wrong with Loki or that it’s odd that he got over losing his soulmate so quickly.
Loki spends more and more time in the lower districts of Asgard, doing everything in his power to support the people and keep (Y/n)’s memory alive.
The people loved her, were loyal to her, and still are. Naturally, Loki receives much of this loyalty through his relationship with (Y/n) and more importantly through his insistence on keeping her memory alive.
All the while, Loki is plotting Thor and Odin’s demise. He knows he wants it to be at the hands of the Frost Giants who killed (Y/n), and it’s Narfi who gives him the chance.
Now on the Council for himself, Narfi is ordered to plan Thor’s coronation, and he and Loki plan out how the Frost Giants might ruin his big day.
They use (Y/n)’s old family home for their preparations. Most nobles consider the outer rim of fishers near (Y/n)’s childhood to be insignificant. So as long as Heimdall doesn’t watch Loki enter the house or know he’s going there, no one cares to look at what’s happening in (Y/n)’s old room.
Thor movie
On the day of the coronation, Loki has doubts. He knows this is not what (Y/n) would want him to become, and he questions whether they should follow through.
Then, one last time, Thor slights him before the coronation by talking about Loki’s conquests as though they were his own and by mentioning the attack by the Frost Giants as if it were a success even though (Y/n) died.
(Insert the deleted scene of Thor and Loki together waiting to enter the throne room)
Loki makes up his mind then and there that Thor must lose everything, as he once did.
The Frost Giants come and Thor shows his true colors.
He demands a raid on Jotunheim, and though Loki publicly denies it, he is seething inside.
Thor demanded justice for a stupid ceremony and thought that was worthy of Laufey’s head, but Laufey killing (Y/n) wasn’t even worth a second thought to Thor.
After Jotunheim, even Odin can’t deny what Thor has done, and Loki relishes watching Thor cast away from everything he’s ever known.
In the vaults beneath Asgard, Loki argues with Odin on the steps only for Odin to tell him the reason Frost Giant’s don’t affect him is because he is one.
Loki watches Odin collapse and the guards take him away, leaving Loki to think.
Loki is horrified. This whole time he’s been on a quest of vengeance against the Frost Giants, and he is one of the monsters who killed (Y/n).
He determines that his best plan would be to kill them all, take Thor and Odin’s life himself.
He sends the Destroyer for Thor and is only incensed more when Thor appeals to him for mercy for Midgard. After everything, Thor still doesn’t understand why Loki is in a rage.
The fight happens as it did, and Thor destroys the Bifrost to save whatever is left of Jotunheim.
Odin is holding Thor who is holding the spear with Loki.
Loki: “Vengeance, that’s all I wanted for her, but you wouldn’t even give her dignity.”
Thor looks confused for a moment before he realizes who Loki’s talking about.
Odin just stares on emotionless as always.
Loki: “We’ll see.”
Loki falls.
Between movies
Loki falls to Thanos.
Loki is worried over what Thanos’ plans to do, to destroy half the known universe.
He wouldn’t mind watching half of Asgard burn or all of Jotunheim or even parts of Midgard which Thor had come to care about, but he knows that isn’t what (Y/n) would have wanted, that many innocents would die in the crossfire, that some of those may even be his own, his real, family.
Using the mind stone, Thanos finds the rage and anger within Loki, and there’s a great deal of it after millennia of being slighted by his father and brother and pitied by his mother, and after a century of suffering the loss of the only person he ever loved.
Thanos exploits this and draws it out, sending the mind-controlled Loki to Earth to retrieve the Tesseract for him.
Avengers movie
Everything happens as made, save that one conversation between Thor and Loki.
Thor: “I thought you dead.”
Loki: “Did you mourn?”
Thor: “We all did. Our father...”
Loki: “Your father. He did tell you my true parentage did he not?”
Thor: “We were raised together, we played together, we fought together. Do you remember none of that?”
Loki: “I remember a shadow, living in the shade of your greatness. You speak of togetherness because every time you needed me I was there, but every time I needed you I was alone. I remember studying magic, alone. I remember defending myself against the Warriors Three, alone. I remember standing up to Father, alone. I remember being punished for our tricks, alone.”
Loki: “I was alone until (Y/n) came, and then you took her from me. You made me alone again. Not just for being the cause of her death, but for not caring that you caused it at all. I was back where I began. I mourned her, alone. And when I finally came out of my chambers, I sat, alone, robbed of the only real family I ever knew. And you’re surprised that after millennia of suffering your destruction, I plotted vengeance alone?”
Thor: The Dark World
Loki faces Odin’s punishment for Midgard alone.
He rots in the dungeon until someone tells him Frigga has been killed.
Loki wants to hate her like he hates the rest of them. She was never a good mother. She clearly preferred Thor and pitied Loki. She let Odin run rampant over Asgard and his sons, and she never once defended Loki.
But Loki can’t bring himself to hate her because: for one at least she tried, but more importantly she gave him (Y/n).
Loki goes with Thor because if he can’t avenge (Y/n) then at least he can avenge his mother.
He watches Thor’s love for Jane and can’t decide if he despises it or not. He wants desperately, to watch Thor suffer; but he isn’t sure if that is how. His pain is the sort of pain he wouldn’t wish on his worst enemy, and his worst enemy was his brother.
In the ship, they talk about it.
Loki: “The only woman who’s love you prize will be snatched from you.”
Thor: “And will that satisfy you brother?”
Loki: “No, but perhaps in a few years, when I get to watch you become me; perhaps that will satisfy me.”
Thor: “This was all about (Y/n)?”
Loki: “That feeling you have for Jane, that love; imagine if it were the only love you’d ever felt. Imagine if Odin despised you and Mother ignored your suffering. Imagine if I spent my life beating you into submission. Imagine if the Warriors Three and all your friends didn’t care about you. And imagine if the Nine Realms never noticed you existed. Imagine the only person you love being the only person who loved you, then imagine my arrogance, after years of cruelty and incompetence, finally ripped it away.”
Loki retreats and sits back down. Loki: “It was always about her. It will always be about her.”
Between Movies
Loki avenges his mother and fakes his own death to rule Asgard as the King they always deserved.
He puts the people first, shares his wealth and power, he rules with a firm, justice hand and doesn’t play favorites like his father.
The people all begin to realize that it isn’t Odin, that Loki has replaced him, when Loki orders a giant statue to  his soulmate built in front of his extension to the palace.
No one says anything. They prefer this happy peaceful life Loki’s given them. It’s the life Frigga promised they would get with soulmates, but the life Odin was too warlike to let anyone actually have.
Thor: The Dark World
The movies plot passes pretty much the same, but Loki’s character is more in keeping with his development and style. It isn’t the sort of sniveling, whiny, weak creation Taika came up with.
Loki comes at the end of the movie, not to help Thor, but because he realized Thor was going to have it out with Hel on Asgard and put the people in grave danger, including his real family.
He arrives and sees Delling and Dysis helping their daughters and grandchildren onto the ship he brought.
Loki: “Where are the others?”
Delling, heartbroken: “Gone. They died with the army.”
Loki, discouraged: “And Narfi?”
Delling just shakes his head.
Loki roars out into the battle and ends up fighting side by side with Thor and the Valkyrie.
As he brings about Ragnarok, Loki takes the Tesseract. He knows that even the blast of Ragnarok won’t destroy the Space Gem, and he can’t very well leave it floating in space for Thanos to just casually pick up, so he determines to find somewhere to hide it forever.
As the battle rages on between Surtur and Hel, Loki heads for the Royal Family’s tomb and takes (Y/n)’s crypt, using the Tesseract to port it onto the ship. Everything else is going to go up in flames, and Loki refuses to let that be her legacy.
The end of the movie, onboard the ship, Thor throws a thing at Loki to prove he isn’t there.
Loki catches it. Loki: “I’m here, brother.”
Loki turns and leaves the room, finding (Y/n)’s family and sitting with them. He’s given up vengeance on Thor because he’s finally realized (Y/n) died to save his brother, not so Loki could kill him later. But he knows now that this is his real family.
Thor is off to the side, watching them. This time he’s the one standing alone.
Seeing their interactions, their mourning Narfi and his brothers, their talking with Loki, Thor realizes that Loki was right. They never really treated him like family
He realizes that Odin, with his help, robbed Loki of everything. A normal family, a happy life, his one true love. They even took the family he made for himself.
Thor decides to leave Loki in peace with his family and leave on his own.
Avengers: Infinity War
Loki watches Thanos ready to kill Thor and realizes what Thanos means by half. He’s going to kill half of each group, and that means half of the sons of Odin.
Loki knows that Thor with his Avengers stands a better chance than Loki, and if Thor dies Thanos may well succeed.
More importantly to Loki, if Thor dies, then (Y/n) died in vain.
Loki rushes Thanos and dies so that he is the half of the sons of Odin that Thanos kills. He dies for Thor the same way (Y/n) did.
The rest of the movie happens.
Avengers: Endgame
Finally understanding what Loki felt, finally understanding what it’s like to lose everything, Thor picks up Loki’s quest for vengeance and takes off Thanos’ head.
Then, with no real purpose, Thor mourns, alone, like his brother did.
Movie goes as planned mostly.
When Hulk snaps, he doesn’t just bring back the half of humanity that Thanos snapped out of existence. Thanos had been roaming the galaxy slaughtering half of every inhabited world he encountered, and Hulk (knowing this from watching on the ship) thinks of them too and brings back the millions who died before the snap.
Asgard’s army was killed by Hel before Thanos ever touched them, but Loki is brought back in space and roars into battle to help protect his family.
When the war is finally won, Loki watches Cap disassemble the infinity gauntlet with envy.
The rest of the Avengers are wary that he will try to steal it, but Thor knows what he’s thinking.
Thor: “Perhaps the soul stone might bring her back.”
Loki: “Let her rest brother. I have kept her alive through death for far too long. She deserves peace.”
Loki leaves. No one knows where he’s gone, and no one ever sees him again.
Loki returns to the wreckage, retrieves (Y/n)’s crypt and disappears forever.
I plotted this out when I plotted out the series, because I believe you have to know the whole story to write a story well.
But as you can see, there are huge chunks where the story just overlaps with the movies, so I didn’t think it would make for very good reading.
