TS2 Extender for Legacy Collection

Hi :)

I've been poking around in the new Legacy Collection release for The Sims 2.

I started work on a small mod that currently adds the following:

Borderless fullscreen support

Toggle to skip intro videos.

Firstborn Syndrome Fix (Fixes broken RNG in general)

Experimental restored Lua features for modders.

Download on Github

Installation is simple, head to your game's installation directory -> EP9 -> TSBin and extract the contents there, alongside the game's executable. You can tweak the mod's features via notepad by editing the included .ini file.

Now let's hope EA actually addresses the other millions of issues the release has...

i caved and bought the legacy collection out of curiosity

i bought it on steam by the way, no way am I going anywhere near the ea app

random thoughts as i go along:

game loaded up straight away with no issues (what a strange feeling)

got into pleasantview within 2 minutes (obvs I have no cc installed right now so its gonna be faster anyway)

a bit of a jumpscare to see the game again without reshade ngl

straight into the lothario household. don you look... different without all my defaults

screen resolution defaulted to the right size without me having to change anything by the way, which was nice

turned up all the graphics setting to max and going to visit the goth household as that always gives me lag, even vanilla

this experience is already making me realise I need to cut down my 12gb downloads folder, cos man this is so smooth and fast without all of that in my game

well everything is working perfectly straight out of the box. had no issues with multiple sims on the big goth lot

going to quit and load up again with my ui mods and defaults next (along with hugelunatic's ikea pack as cc)

legacy collection has an entirely different file path by the way, so won't mess with existing ultimate collection installs (i wouldn't have dared to do this otherwise)

okay all my defaults, ui mods and some others are now in (downloads folder is up to 3.64gb now) and everything is working fine still

ikea items as cc don't seem to be fully appearing in the catalog though? that might be a me problem but i dont know

adding in all my cas cc now, along with hood defaults and hood deco cc (downloads folder is up to 6.5gb now). i'm also adding in anything else I can think of like camera mods, user startup cheat etc etc

getting into pleasantview in less than 2 mins still

heading into cas for the first time now...

... and it loaded up within 10 seconds even with ALL of my cas cc? and this is the first time too so I would've expected major lag. normally cas takes about 60 seconds to load in my game

update on the ikea pack as cc... the build items are definitely there, but not the buy for some reason?

biting the bullet and adding in the remaining 6gb of my 12gb downloads folder

all of my cc is now in the game and loading times were about 30 seconds longer than before. still no issues

took darren dreamer to a community lot and there were no crashes/issues/lag. normally going to a community lot is very dangerous for me cos its where I get the most crashes or issues, its why all my community lots are incredibly small lot sizes

also I have the hood deco view set to extra large... normally I have to have it set to extra small just to play in a small household

i dont think I'm being delulu here to say things are running better

next up is adding in all of my mods, then after that I might dare putting in my mega populated uberhood save, and try reshade?

another ikea update: everything is showing up now. it was me being an idiot

so all of my mods are now also in (so my entire downloads folder now) and i haven't been able to trigger any crashes or pink soup yet through normal gameplay? even with extra large hood view from lots

reshade keeps crashing my game on startup... damn, what am I doing wrong

RESHADE IS NOW WORKING (ver 6.1.1)! thanks to this guide

I finally added in my uberhood save (which is packed with hood deco and and has 35 playable families).... and it's working! I also played with a household for a bit and everything was working fine

final update before I go to bed (as its gone midnight here lol)

i now have all of my mods, cc, saves, and reshade installed, and I've yet to have any pink soup or crashes (apart from the crashes when I was *incorrectly* trying to install reshade). honestly... i'm surprised. i dont want to speak too soon obviously, but things seem better. i was just playing in a household with extra large lot view on and that would usually IMMEDIATELY crash my game, but nothing happened. tomorrow i'll actually play for an extended period of time, so i'll be able to tell more for sure then.

i hope this has been helpful to at least a couple of people, and i'll leave with you a shot of my pleasantview newly loaded up in the legacy collection ��

I was inspired by @amfmrdo . I really enjoyed the color palette they chose for this character and I wanted to use the same. Plus putting the game cartridge in the background boosts the nostalgia by 1000% 😎

I fixed my Legacy Collection Diplodocus :)

Ever since I got it, the end of its tail would NEVER stay on, but I got some tape, wrapped it around, and now it stays on :)

for my own benefit rly im just gonna keep a list of things im finding out poking around tumblr/forums/blog posts/etc.

IKEA stuff & other missing content: "Please note that modern licensing restrictions have required the removal of 1 pack and some of the original songs, but we have included as many as possible." licensing issues for packs like this arent new (hi katy perry), interestingly theres no such notes for the sims 1 which includes irl celebrities, not just in superstar but also drew carey in house party since there is missing content, the file size may be smaller than UC

small improvements to the games graphics rules that u could DIY in basically any version of ts2

ts2 incorporates an old version of shadow fixes, without credit or nopke's permission (simnopke) (shadow fixes)

holiday stuff being hidden is an old bug thats present in UC, its still broken in legacy collection

it looks like bodyshop is gone?

ive seen several ppl saying that the denuvo tag was for the included sims 4 kits (why r those there lmao), that the old games dont actually have denuvo (sidenote it kinda bites that i alrdy have those kits lol)

some questions i have:

does the ui look better in ts2? cas notoriously looks bad on widescreen resolutions. chris hatch made a fix for this and if EA is making a habit of stealing modders fixes this is worth looking into

does the ui look better in ts1? theres various fan patches for that listed here, same questions as above

i dont think anyone can actually answer this but how tf were pink soup & texture memory corruption fixed? everyones guesses seem to be making it 64bit or large address aware which many of us know only work so well. i wanna know more than "someone got pink soup" bc i think players often falsely assume the pink flashing itself is the problem & not a symptom of another problem

is it available to mac users? i am not a mac user but this is the #1 thing that would make it worth re-releasing imo

which original songs were removed from ts2?

im ignoring anything abt whether it runs better/worse for now til i know exactly what changes were made, cos until that point its all anecdotal

Funny thing about the Custom Skins dialog in the Legacy Collection not closing is that it's because they mistakenly hooked up the Confirm/Cancel buttons to Change Pages instead, I haven't tested it but theoretically clicking them should just change pages if you have multiple pages of skintones lol.

It was pretty difficult to try and recreate the code to close the dialog so I didn't get around to fixing it with TS2 Extender and I imagine it will get fixed so probably not worth it.

Very random thing to break, makes me wonder if maybe they went ahead and refactored a bunch of things without much testing.

legacy collection - next day update

i've played again this evening and can report the following:

i'm still unable to generate a single instance of pink flashing, and I'm playing my biggest lots and hopping from community lot to community lot with no issue

the game did eventually have its first crash however, when i switched between my downtown hood and main hood after all of that aforementioned household switching and community lot hopping. so, yeah... sad that it crashed, but also it would have crashed way earlier with my UC install (it was also a different kind of crash though, no error message, the game just went black and shut down)

i have also run into a couple of super annoying bugs/mod issues - i can't select custom skins in cas due to some unknown bug?? and the community lot time mod is also not working for some reason (which is an absolute must for me) 😓

i'll keep updating this post with any further updates.

edit: another thing i've been thinking about is how ea has now already said they are going to be releasing bug fixes for the legacy collection. whilst good in theory, that also really scares me because one of the reasons i stopped playing ts4 was because i was afraid they would break the game and my saves with every patch (because they always did)

edit 2: i'm now back in the ultimate collection testing the graphics rule maker file from the legacy collection (shared by @brandinotbroke)... and i'm also now not seeing pink flashing/crashing happening here either. i'm confused... thankful, but confused. i've been playing for over two hours, in which time i've taken my sims to multiple community lots, all with an increased lot view distance setting (which I can normally NEVER put any higher than small). its obviously impossible to say whether its directly linked, but its difficult not to make some assumptions. if i have this kinda choice between UC and LC, i'm gonna go UC for the reasons above.

I have three collection entries, I'm not to worried about X at the moment since I'm leaving it open for my dad to gift them if he would like

He likes both classic and X, so I've opted for Zero and BN to be my own purchases. and so BN is going to be my paycheck purchase next sale. pretty much I buy them when they're discounted, and after I've paid bills, taxes and stuff

sadly I'm stuck on an old mac for now, so I won't be unlocking any of the Bass stuff at the moment, not even when I get the BN collections T-T

so safe to say I humbly await for when I can get a new computer, because then I can use my steam points on Bass themed stuff (doesn't cost that much surprisingly, he's got like 2 emotes and is included on some themed backgrounds)
