Modern au
Rhiannon spends a lot of time around her parents and it shows in her speech and mannerism. She is generally quiet and keeps to herself. She also ALWAYS pesters Manon because ‘is this new lipstick? is it for me?’ And she just goes on standing in front of the mirror and applying said lipstick.
She also gets into Manon’s perfumes and LOVES to pick which one to use before going out.
But despite that she is still a small child and certainly has her moments.
One day, she spent a whole morning playing in the swimming pool with Aelin’s kids. When Dorian packed her up later, they called Manon from the car to chat. The first thing the three year old said was: “Mama I look like a boiled lobster!” She just declared because the poor baby is as pale as her mother and the sun is just not kind on them (Manon avoids the sun because she just burns but her daughter is small and they thought she might actually just tan like her dad but nope, she turned into a ‘boiled lobster’ as the toddler so eloquently put it).

Solarpunk rambling for the night: Containers suited to their contents. I should be able to use up every last bit of a product from a container. Then I should be able to easily open that container to clean and refill it. A container should protect its contents from damaging factors (heat, light, moisture, etc.). A container should assist me with the using of said product, at the very least not hinder my usage of the product. A container should be beautiful!!! And bring me joy in using the product!!

Wanted to show off my newly cleaned and organized room because ya girl has ADHD and clinical depression so this shit is a big deal for me lol. I'm guessing this is mostly due to the fact that I accidentally took two doses of my adderall the other day, and turns out 40 mgs is probably what I should have been on all along because wow I’m actually getting shit done now??
Anyway tho, I've found that one of my biggest issues when it comes to keeping things organized is "out of sight, out of mind"--ie, if something isn't visible to me, I often forget it exists. (Yes, I have a Masters Degree but have yet to fully comprehend the concept of object permanence, apparently.) So I've finally decided to do something about this! I'm in the process of labeling all of my drawers, cabinets, and storage containers so I can keep track of my shit. So far the labelled dresser drawers have worked wonders in stopping me from just throwing my clothes on the ground or stuffing them wherever. We'll see if this is sustainable in the long run

only if it's Bad Evil Lotion made of Persistence Slime and not Holy, Kind and Generous Lotion made of Stuff I Headcanon as Blue Because Of How It Touches The Air Very Loud And Exhales It's Sins Into The Air, leaving my skin delightfully 1% nega-burned and awoken from it's groggy slumber.
are you uncomfortable from your hands being dry? if you apply lotion, you can instead be uncomfortable with how greasy they are now. Subscribe for more tips!

Do you carry any other fun and whimsical things in your purse besides the brass measuring tools? can we see them??
"What do I carry in my purse" is actually a really long answer! Not very whimsical though.
Tumblr media
I don't carry a very large purse but it is actually jam-packed with stuff. Obviously the usual—credit cards, ID, badge, money, car keys.
But the rest is taken up by a tidy little lineup of things that are useless 99% of the time and crucial 1% of the time. Some of it (most of the top row) floats loose in my purse; most of the bottom row packs into the little bag there. My sketchbook du jour is usually carried separately.
Tumblr media
So: top row:
Sketchbook and the little brass drafting tools, which I carry inside the sketchbook, and also a little metal ruler that has honestly become redundant.
Then, a bunch of pens and marking tools: A ballpoint, some pencils, paint pen, permanent marker, white gel pens, white paint pen, white mechanical pencil, and eraser. This varies depending on what I'm working on and what I've absently left in the wrong place.
Some lip gloss, hand sanitizer, concealer, chapstick, nail polish, and heavy lotion (clay dries your hands out SO hard) and a hair pin. Usually there are several sword shaped hair pins also; I took them out while working on a project and they'll migrate back when I'm done.
Headphones, a couple knives, and a tiny foldable gerber multitool. A little flat card multitool, with a heavy needed shoved into its case also, and a pack of clear sticky notes.
A two-port USB brick; I usually also carry a power bank but it's charging in the car right now.
My change purse and my wallet, which is just the IDs; my actual cards are in a pocket in the purse that also has a little nail kit. My car keys, which have a bottle opener and a combined window breaker-seatbelt cutter, a 64 gig USB key, and keys to my studio, house, garage, and the courthouse.
Tumblr media
The bag itself is metal mesh, which means it’s durable but also somewhat see-thru.
That little tin is a tiny first aid kit, which probably I should have unpacked, but it's got bandaids, bandages, skin tape, blistex; antiseptic, itch, and burn cream; eyedrops; several small packets of common meds (tylenol, advil, etc) and a little folded chart for meds, since I’m terrible at remembering which can be taken with which; a breath mask. There's also a razor and some safety pins tucked in there. It's held shut with a hair tie.
There's some single-use earplugs and some zip ties, some more eye drops, and a tiny vial of liquid breath mint.
A deck of mini playing cards.
A tiny sewing kit--needles, pins, earring backs and pin backs, some heavy black thread on a bobbin, a measuring tape, and some foldable scissors. There's a couple glasses screws in there from before I had Lasik.
Another little multitool, some binder clips, a tiny level, a 120 gig USB, and some bobby pins.
Matches and a lighter, a flat pen, and coils of 20 lb fishing line, picture wire, and monofilament, as well as two short USB cords.
A tide pen and a glasses screwdriver.
The bag contains cardboard strips with several yards of tape: Electrical, packing, scotch, duct, gaff, and skin tape. Superglue. A spare piece of heavy cardboard to use as a cutting surface if needed.
An Xacto knife with the blade reversed (learned my lesson after jamming my hand into my bag and taking a chunk out of a finger when a springloaded switchblade opened itself) and spare blades.
Some more clear sticky notes and a tiny lined notebook for when I just need scratch paper.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My car actually includes two slightly different emergency bags—one for regular roadside emergencies (including emergencies in blizzard weather) and one for camping emergencies, and a bit more of an extensive first aid kit.

Is Linoleic Acid the answer to solving your dry skin?
Dry skin is a common problem amongst people of all ages and is due to a lack of water in the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum). It can be caused by a number of different factors including poor nutrition, a change in weather, ageing, an allergic reaction, medications and autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis. Improving nutrition and adhering to a good skincare regime can help to…

Writing Notes: Herbal Remedies
Tumblr media
References (Capsules & Powders; Compresses & Lotions; Creams; Decoctions; Infused Oils; Infusions; Ointments; Poultices; Syrups; Tinctures; Tonic Wines; Other Preparations)
CAPSULES & POWDERS
Powdered herbs are most easily taken as capsules but can be sprinkled on food or taken with water.
Externally, they can be applied as a dusting powder to the skin or mixed with tinctures as a poultice.
COMPRESSES & LOTIONS
Lotions are water-based herbal preparations such as infusions, decoctions, or diluted tinctures that are used to bathe inflamed or irritated skin.
Compresses are cloths soaked in a lotion and held against the skin.
Both are simple ways to use herbs externally and can be very effective in relieving swelling, bruising, and pain, soothing inflammation and headaches, and cooling fevers.
CREAMS
Making a cream involves combining oil or fat and water in an emulsion. If the process is rushed, the oil and water may separate.
Unlike ointments, creams blend with the skin and have the advantage of being cooling and soothing while at the same time allowing the skin to breathe and sweat naturally.
They can, however, deteriorate quite quickly and are best stored in dark, airtight jars in a refrigerator.
DECOCTIONS
Roots, bark, twigs, and berries usually require a more forceful treatment than leaves or flowers to extract their medicinal constituents. A decoction involves simmering these tougher parts in boiling water.
Fresh or dried plant material may be used and should be cut or broken into small pieces before decocting. Like infusions, decoctions can be taken hot or cold.
INFUSED OILS
Infusing an herb in oil allows its active, fat-soluble ingredients to be extracted; hot infused oils are simmered, while cold infused oils are heated naturally by the sun.
Both types of oil can be used externally as massage oils or added to creams and ointments.
Infused oil should not be confused with essential oil, which is an active constituent naturally present in a plant and has specific medicinal properties and a distinct aroma.
Essential oil may be added to an infused oil to increase its medicinal efficacy
INFUSIONS
An infusion is the simplest way to prepare the more delicate aerial parts of plants, especially leaves and flowers, for use as a medicine or as a revitalizing or relaxing drink.
It is made in a similar way to tea, using either a single herb or a combination of herbs, and may be drunk hot or cold.
OINTMENTS
Ointments contain oils or fats heated with herbs and, unlike creams, contain no water. As a result, ointments form a separate layer on the surface of the skin.
They protect against injury or inflammation of damaged skin and carry active medicinal constituents, such as essential oils, to the affected area.
Useful in conditions such as hemorrhoids or where protection is needed from moisture, as in chapped lips and diaper rash.
POULTICES
A poultice is a mixture of fresh, dried, or powdered herbs that is applied to an affected area.
Used to ease nerve or muscle pains, sprains, or broken bones, and to draw pus from infected wounds, ulcers, or boils.
SYRUPS
Honey and unrefined sugar are effective preservatives.
Can be combined with infusions or decoctions to make syrups and cordials.
They have the additional benefit of having a soothing action, and therefore make a perfect vehicle for cough mixtures as well as relieving sore throats.
With their sweet taste, syrups can disguise the taste of unpalatable herbs and are therefore greatly appreciated by children.
TINCTURES
Tinctures are made by soaking an herb in alcohol. This encourages the active plant constituents to dissolve, giving tinctures a relatively stronger action than infusions or decoctions.
They are convenient to use and last up to 2 years.
Tinctures can be made using a jug and a jelly bag, instead of a wine press. Although mainly used in European, American, and Australian herbal medicine, tinctures play a part in most herbal traditions.
TONIC WINES
Tonic wines are an agreeable way to take strengthening and tonic herbs to increase vitality and improve digestion.
Neither strictly medicinal, nor simply appealing to the palate, they are easy to prepare at home.
Made by steeping tonic herbs in red or white wine for several weeks.
OTHER PREPARATIONS
Steam Inhalations
Steam inhalations are an effective way to clear congestion and relieve sinusitis, hay fever, and bronchial asthma.
The combination of steam and antiseptic ingredients clears the airways throughout the respiratory system.
Gargles & Mouthwashes
Gargles and mouthwashes usually contain astringent herbs, which tighten the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat.
As gargles and mouthwashes are made from infusions, decoctions, or diluted tinctures, they can generally be swallowed for internal treatment. Ensure you do not exceed the daily internal dose of an herb.
Pessaries & Suppositories
Pessaries and suppositories are waxy pellets containing essential oil or fine powder.
They are used when oral medicine is likely to be broken down during digestion before reaching its intended site.
Pessaries are inserted into the vagina and suppositories into the anus, where they melt at body temperature.
The herb is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, providing fast relief. It is best to buy ready-made suppositories.
Essential Oils
Essential oils can be used in massage to soothe minor aches and pains.
Before use, they should be diluted with a carrier oil as they can irritate the skin.
Essential oils deteriorate rapidly after dilution, so it is best to mix small quantities as you need them.
Baths & Skin Washes
Herbal baths and skin washes can relieve many conditions, including aching limbs and stuffy sinuses.
They are made from diluted essential oils or infusions.
Eyebaths soothe sore, inflamed, or irritated eyes.
Cold Macerations
Heat destroys the active constituents of some herbs.
Thus, a cold maceration might be more appropriate than a decoction.
Juices
The juices extracted from many herbs.
Can be taken internally or applied externally.

Sylus: Sunscreen and Salty Kisses
~ Written for @blessdunrest! Hope you enjoy, thank you for requesting!
~ Sylus x Reader fluff! Not beta read, please ignore any errors I go blind writing these
Warning, this post contains: tooth rotting fluff, domestic Sylus and MC doing their thing out in the sun even tho the sun be killing that man's eyes lmao, anything for his wife. Also a little bit of banter, I'd like to think these to crack dirty jokes / innuendos here and there lol. Kisses, giggling, playing in the water, cute cute cute!! Def took some inspiration from his level 70 secret times card hehe.
Tumblr media
"Let me put some sunscreen on you, Sy."
You had convinced your lover to go on a beach date - well, it was Sylus. He didn't need all that much convincing if the plans had anything to do with you. "I'll be fine, I tan."
"Nuh uh, mister. You may tan but that doesn't mean you can't get skin cancer." Your lips formed a pout, arms crossing with the bottle of sunscreen clutched in one hand. "Plus..." You sing softly, smiling as if you were about to give him an offer he couldn't refuse.
"...I'll let you put sunscreen on me afterwards." Oh, okay. Well you did go and offer him something he couldn't possibly turn down. Setting the towels on the sand, Sylus collapsed under the umbrella with a sigh. "Well, kitten. When you put it like that I suppose I can't say no."
A content sigh leaves your lips as you kneel beside him. Settling comfortably beside him on the town, you pop the lid of the squeeze bottle and get a considerable amount on your palm.
"It'll be a little cold." you dropped the bottle beside you, smiling as Sylus looked at you. His arms were up, folded behind his head and somehow making the muscles of his torso look bigger. "I'll be alright, it's hot out anyways. I could use something cool."
You got to work, rubbing lotion into Sylus' skin much like how a kitten would knead something soft. Somewhere in the back of your mind you wanted to laugh, you'd never beat the kitten allegations at this rate. Maybe you didn't even want to, the nickname had some truth.
Once you were thoroughly satisfied with your work, you motioned for Sylus to sit up. "Gotta get your back and your face, then you can do me." You caught the small quirk of his lips at your wording, snorting as you smack his shoulder. "Don't be filthy, Sylus."
"I have no idea what you're talking about, Kitten." That comfortable silence fell over you both again, your fingers running along the dips and curves of his back as you spread the lotion around.
The waves crashing on the shore were comforting, beckoning you to go play in them. You wondered how much convincing it would take to get him down in the water with you, surely he'd do it for you, right?
"Back is done, mister. Now we gotta protect that handsome face." You move around him, settling on his lap as you push the sunglasses up and into his hair. "Close your eyes, please."
Your noses nearly brush, carmine eyes observing your face with such reverence you feel a blush creeping up your ears. He closes them with a little hesitance, as if he didn't want to stop taking you in. Though, now with his eyes shut, you could admire him in the same fashion. That pesky eye, however, would always give you away.
You were careful with your movements, spreading sunscreen along his cheeks and nose, rubbing it in with practiced gentleness. You sealed the deal with a quick peck on the lips, smiling as you pulled back to whisper all done. His eyes blink open a second later, lips curving in a smile as he takes the lotion bottle.
"Your turn, Miss hunter. Can't have you catching no harmful rays either." You're giggling, shutting your eyes as he begins spreading the sunscreen across your face just like you had done to him seconds before. Sylus took his time with you - not too much because he knew how much you wanted to get into the water - but enough to insure that every inch of exposed skin as properly protected.
"Alright, kitten. I'd say the sun isn't harming you today." The bottle cap is clicked shut and you're a little reluctant to get off of his lap. "Thank you very much, Mr. Sylus." You kiss his nose as a thank you, getting up before he can chase your lips. "First to get to the water wins, no evol allowed!" You're giggling as you spin to run.
"Playing dirty, Miss Hunter!" but your feet are already hitting the hot sand, laughter bubbling from your chest as you head straight for the ocean. You couldn't even recall where he had whisked you off too, but the private beach had the bluest water you'd ever seen.
You glanced back over your shoulder for a moment, just to see Sylus running after you. A child-like giddiness filled your chest, laughter uncontrollable as your feet hit the waves first. "I win!"
You turn around, the waves crashing into the backs of your claves to see Sylus was still heading straight for you. An excited sort of panic filled you, a warning hey! squealing past your lips as Sylus grabbed you in strong arms. You were lifted, laughing like a love sick fool as he sloshed into deeper water. "You may have won but..."
You cling to him, a vague idea of where he was going with this entering your mind. "Sylus don't you dare-" but he's already falling backwards, your arms and legs wrapping around him like a koala bear as he drags you under the water with him.
You both resurface a moment later, a deep, rich laughter vibrating Sylus' chest as you push your sopping wet hair out of your face. "That wasn't fair!!" You nearly yell in his face, laughing just as hard as he is. "You never said anything about playing fair." There is a boyish grin plastered to his face, his eyes lit with mischief.
"And here I was, ready to give the loser a kiss to soften the blow." Your lips form a mock pout, watching as his eyes widen a little in response. "Well now, we don't have to be hasty with our decisions."
Large hands are splayed across your skin below the water, holding your thighs as you keep yourself glued to him.
"I dunno, don't think you deserve a kiss after attempting to drown me." But you can't keep up the facade, a smile curling your lips as you bring your hands up to hold his face. "Nobody was trying to drown anybody, now about that kiss..." His eyes linger on your lips before peering back into your eyes. Damn him, you're such a sucker.
"Fine, I suppose." And you're leaning in, nose brushing his as you tilt your head a little and seal your lips together. The kiss is warm, tasting like the strawberries you had fed him while also cutting them up to bring to the beach. There was a saltiness to it, likely from the water you two had just dove under, and the scent of sunscreen lingered.
You pull away first, giggling as he chases your lips. Barely a breath of air is sucked into your lungs before he's on you again. The kisses searing yet rapid fire, so totally him.
You'd never want anything different, the waves rocking your bodies as you melted into each other. You had an entire summer to look forward to, and many more beach dates to come.
