#Lots to work on and I'm excited to share!

hi.

i wanted to post this, just so everyone knows where my mind has been/currently resides.

but... as of late, i've just felt very down where my writing is concerned.

so, if i've seemed inconsistent, you are absolutely right. i have been inconsistent, but i've needed to take this space for my own mental wellbeing. there's been a lot of crying and lamenting and deliberating these stories that i've given so much of my heart, soul, endless time, and energy to.

i am working on Covet, Scout's Honor, and a couple other works. and, as i'm speaking on the "other works", i feel it is fair to point out they are never going to be "fanfic", but will instead be directly made into books. and, well... that has been my comfortable zone recently.

the fanfic world has turned a little sad within the past year, so it's just been a little harder to find the motivation to write for my stories.

...especially Covet.

as i've said since it first came to tumblr, Covet is my baby, so when I invest my time and energy into it, it takes a lot out of me. (ask anyone in my life - both personal and online - that i associate with regularly.) and, it's hard to share something that means so (astronomically) much to me, only for me to feel it's not being received as well as it once was. (this is me being blatantly honest, so i apologize for the brutal honesty. however, i do believe it's within my rights as the author of the story to express this feeling i have with this beloved creation of mine...i am sorry to anyone this causes discomfort for, though. <3)

so. i've been sort of keeping Covet held closer to me than usual...it just feels safer in my heart and google drive than on here some days. and not only that, but i've found it a little harder to write it in general. in a day and age where fic writers are feeling less than, or beaten down by certain response, or just leaving in general, it's hard to feel that same excitement when crafting a chapter for release.

all of this to say.

i will be delivering Covet and the second part to Unravel within the month. but, i will probably be taking a momentary break after they are posted - in order to gain some mental clarity to figure out the future for these works of mine.

to all my readers and supporters of my works: I LOVE YOU. thank you to all of you who give feedback, likes, reblogs, etc. - it truly feeds my soul in a way that i'm not able to properly express.

Also. I just want to point out that the ultimate goal is to publish Covet as a five novel series someday, under a different title. If anyone has ever been curious about that.

you know ittttttt. i was waiting to reply to this until i finished filling out my profile id card and here we go:

i'm dervampireprince on art fight if anyone wants to interact with me on there. my 'featured characters' on my id card are some of the ones i want to see art of the most, however it's also just me trying to show a range of characters i have. you can draw for anyone of my characters and i will be so happy, it does not have to be the characters listed in the featured image (and i will probably cry if anyone draws any of my canon couples together).

and to anyone participating in art fight: please be respectful. there were so many new people joining art fight last year because of tiktok who just went in with mean energy frankly. no one owes you art. no one owes you a revenge attack. and don't be rude to beginner artists, don't call other people's art 'lazy' because you think it looks like a 5 year old drew it. art fight is for people of all levels and skills. you can draw, paint, sculpt, sew, crotchet, animate, and much more. and be respectful of people's characters (and the characters race, body type, sexuality, etc) and each person's individual 'permissions' (for example some are fine with gore, i personally am not). don't pick on people for not drawing a lot, or doing friendly fire or 'not earning enough points for their team'. it's framed like a competition, but art fight is really just an art sharing event. the winning teams never get a prize, just the knowledge that your team won. go into it to have fun and practise your art and give art to other people and if you get any art in return then yippee but if someone doesn't draw art for you in return you can't get angry and upset at them.

as you can see my priority is not get the characters drawn i have bookmarked and draw for my partner and friends, and after that if i have time i will try and revenge attack at least some people but i cannot guarantee i will attack you back on art fight.

if you don't know what art fight is or are unsure about joining, on the top bar of art fight's website there are many helpful pages to explain how everything works with example images if you roll over the 'help' button and it will show all the pages in the drop down you can click on for help with anything.

team registration opened yesterday! usually how it works is if you join a team now you get to pick (or you can click 'random team') but if you join after july 1st you will only get the 'random team' option. you can make an art fight account and be a 'spectator' as in you don't choose a team because you just want to be able to see what other people make. you can also join a team and sign up even if you don't think you'll have time to draw and allow people to draw for you.

the only attacks i know i'm 100% doing this year is drawing bellino. obviously. (one of my partner's ocs and i draw him every year, he's always my first attack of the year). and i am looking for characters who are PCs, personal computers and laptops and possibly similar things like TVs or games consoles to make a sequel to my favourite attack i've ever drawn from last year 'what do you call a group of computers'. i made barnaby and oscar for art fight last year and i love them dearly and drew oscar with a bunch of other computer characters so if you have a computer character (and you're 18+) throw a link to them my way before july 1st and i'll try and include them in the mass attack.

So I saw that you were doing matchups for users and the cast of KDH and I thought 'Why not' I don't have a preference for the relationship type or the gender btw ^^

A little bit about me: I'm autistic and ADHD which means that I tend to be fairly chaotic around people I feel comfortable with- that includes swearing like a sailor, rambling about my special interests or stuff that I feel strongly about. I tend to also tell 50 stories in the same conversation because I get sidetracked. I'm also Polish so I sometimes speak in my mother tongue without realising it.

I'm also a writer and I tend to have multiple projects at the same time- it could be books, games, videos. Anything like that. And I tend to get hyperfixated on stuff a lot 😅

I'm also into alternative fashion and I tend to do very exaggerated makeup that takes me forever to get off.

✨ the three of you almost certainly bond over a variety of shared neurodivergency and specific self-brought chaos as a trio.

💜 Mystery Saja serves almost as an instigator for you a lot of the time- he’s almost always the first to try and wind you up and/or is the first to join you in any stupid schemes you find yourself wanting to do.

An entirely new makeup look you haven’t tested? Only an hour before a big meet up with the others? Yeah do it. Mystery will do one with you & you can both look fresh n.. uh… “different” is the word Zoey used.

💜 Truly unfortunate (or fortunate) that Mystery is always going to be quick to egg you on into rambling about whatever niche interest or project no matter how “appropriate” it is for public space too. I fear this dog of a man is just sick with puppy love for you every step of the way in the relationship. He wants to hear you yap and will stare quietly most of the conversation with the tiniest “uh huh” or “go on” to cue that he wants more.

Though it’s not like Zoey is much better.

💙 Zoey’s role in the relationship is a lot more of an interesting support and/or hype for you on a lot of your projects. It doesn’t matter how often you pick up or put down personal projects- she adores the passion you have for your work and as a writer herself she’s quick to ask all the best questions to keep you rambling about an interest. Truly- shes your #1 fangirl & she’s going to act like it with wild theories & excited pestering on your work.

💙 overall though Zoey is probably the one much better at actually engaging with your interests without you asking. She’s happy to join in your interests, try your fashion- and is just as quick to pull you straight into hers. (You definitely see so many of Huntrix’s songs long before they ever get recorded) and it’s her own personal way of saying she loves you without explicitly saying “I love you”

However of the 2- Zoey definitely tells you she loves you more- and she… definitely gets “creative” with it! Last time she poetically compared you to a cup of ramen 🫶 & last time Mystery let you know he loved you he sort of just… flopped into your lap like a dog.

💙💜 together the both share an interest in your mother tongue as you put it- and both will probably be pretty quick to pick up on it. Mystery is much more likely to parrot or repeat random polish words he just enjoys- but Zoey will want to learn and try to implement more of the language into her more domestic use. (Mystery is able to but- he’s not exactly fond of speaking in general so that’s your war to fight 🙏)

💙💜🩶 Ultimately as a trio yall are yappy, high energy, and only keep raising the bar when yall are around each other. Yall are probably a bit much for some others- but Zoey & Mystery wont ever seem to get enough of your charm.

✨Dragonfire42 ✨

Dragonfire42 (she/they) is a magician, puppeteer, and grown-up theatre kid who's been in 200 plays over the last 20 years, and recently decided to play in the fanfic sandbox. Keep reading to learn more about their many contributions to the Good Omens community, as well as other creative gifts she has to offer to all of us.

Dragonfire42 has many hobbies outside of the Good Omens world:

“I live in Colorado (USA). I'm pretty active with local theatre, puppetry and magic, and also love hiking, kayaking and dancing.” 

Good Omens was not exactly “new” to Dragonfire42 - but Season 2 changed everything (probably true for many fans!!):

“I read the book about twenty years ago, and then watched the first season, but didn't get REALLY feral with the fandom until the end of Season 2 when that left me with SO many questions! I made a Tiktok video about the experience.” 

And their discovery about the depth of the GO fandom helped to guide Dragonfire42's desire to create their own outpouring of written works:

“I'd read fanfiction for years, but I'd rarely written any. Most of my writing experience is in writing plays and short skits for film. I felt a huge passion to write my first fanfic "The NeverEnding Archive" (A NeverEnding Story / Good Omens crossover) and when I was joining groups to share the story I wrote, I found out about all the fanfiction events and bangs and fun excuses to make friends and keep writing! Just last year I was in 7 bangs and 3 gift exchanges and every month I write GTA ficlets too and all of those events encouraged me to write 250,000 words just last year!” 

That’s quite a LOT of writing!!  Any personal favorites among those?

“"Fowl Play" - the sci-fi comedy crossover with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Good Omens that I wrote when I turned 42 is my favorite! I put a LOT of thought into that story, with all the jokes and also trying to make it make sense in both universes. For non-GO work, I just wrote a solo play I've taken to Fringe festivals called "Safety First" I'm pretty proud of too!” 

Dragonfire42 has given us so many stories for Good Omens, but she has also produced written works for OTHER fandoms - which has inspired lots of GO cross-overs:

“Back in high school I wrote a lot for V: The Series (someday I might put one or two of them on AO3!), and also for a video game called Tex Murphy "Under a Killing Moon" (I wrote a huge choose your own adventure fanfic on my old Geocities site! And the author Aaron Connors read it and complimented me!). What I love with all the crossover options now is I'm getting to write for a ton of fandoms but keeping it all Good Omens, with stories like Casablanca "Here's Looking at You, Angel", The Seventh Seal "The Angel's Gambit", H2G2 "Fowl Play", Discworld "Crowley and the Seven Nac Mac Feegles", and The Neverending Story "The NeverEnding Archive".” 

And of course, a particular member of the Spotlight Author team is ESPECIALLY intrigued by Dragonfire42’s past fandom obsessions, savvy?:

“I think the last fandom I was this feral in was Pirates of the Caribbean. I joined a fan-based pirate crew, we did camping trips and pub shanty sings and pirate Christmas caroling and I hosted the Pirate vs Ninja Olympics at a local con three years in a row. I ran for Pirate King for our pirate fest (and I got a respectable 2nd). I also tried to find real buried treasure (Forrest Fenn's) which is what my solo play "Safety First" is about.”

With all of these many different stories that Dragonfire42 has shared, one of our readers wanted to know how she kept the characters feeling fresh and exciting to write across all the different AUs:

“That's a great question. I have a HUGE file in my phone of notes called "Plot Bunnies" that I write when I'm going about my day, or sometimes even when I'm writing a different story, just take a quick thought or idea to explore later. A lot of them I use during the monthly ficlets and some turn into longer stories. I was talking with a friend about how I used to dance tango months ago, and then wrote a few notes in case I could use it for a future story, and now I'm almost 4,000 words in to writing that! I love Good Omens in particular for that because there are infinite possibilities within canon (the whole history of Earth and earlier!) and infinite possibilities with human AU storylines too!” 

Dragonfire42 does not just write about our ineffable duo.  In fact, nearly every character in GO is given a moment in the spotlight:

“In my Casablanca crossover “Here's Looking at You, Angel” - I got to write about every possible GO pairing and then some. After the end of S2, Crowley is sad because of a love curse that pairs up everyone around him except him (think the end of S1 when all the couples there officially paired off EXCEPT our Aziracrow) - so in that story I got to go deep on ALL possible ships. I had 10 in that story total, including a secret pairing at the end. My favorites for writing in that one were Muriel/Eric 7 and Saraqael/Demon Josh.”

So outside of Aziraphale and Crowley, which character does Dragonfire42 enjoy writing about the most?

“Elspeth was fun to write in “Elspeth and the Beanstalk,” an AU where Aziraphale drinks the laudanum instead of Crowley that I wrote for the Fairytale bang. I really loved writing Newt in the H2G2 crossover "Fowl Play" - he plays the Arthur Dent style character to Crowley's Ford Prefect. I always get a kick out of writing Shadwell ("The Network of Highly Trained Human Operatives") But probably my absolute favorite was Furfur as Raphael the healer in “Out of Alignment.”” 

Speaking of “Out of Alignment”, one of our readers asked about what inspired this story and "...that kind of inner imbalance, a little bit physical, a little bit ethereal”:

“"Out of Alignment" was inspired by a few things - one was how much I really love reading all the healing and recovery stories in this fandom. I find it so fascinating how so many different authors build in reasons that angels or demons who can heal themselves could plausibly fall ill. I'm also a huge fan of stories that deal with True Forms. It goes back a bit to my love of magical realism, I love taking a huge abstract concept like spinning wheels with eyes and finding a way to ground it realistically. For that story I used the real physics concept of "gimbal lock" and applied it to True Forms on how it could cause problems, with Crowley needing a bearing replacement on his True Form wheel in order to function. It took months of research to figure out enough about the physics part of it before I was comfortable sharing the story, and I even used a physical 3D printed version of a True Form so I could try to understand gimbals and gimbal locks better myself. But the real core of the story is recovery - from Aziraphale as caretaker and Crowley learning to be vulnerable and accept help, and all the unexpected friends who help along the way. I've had experiences as a caretaker and have had times I've needed to be taken care of too, and that story included a lot of my personal reflections.”

“I'm on the last chapter of "Dream within a Dream" and expect to finish that soon. I also have two stories in zines coming up, my tango AU story (untitled) that I'm writing, and also I have one currently in "Bright Star: A Good Omens Astronomy Zine" called "Invisible Force" - a story about Crowley brainstorming gravity when he was a starmaker. (That zine is available now for a limited time for a donation to the On Our Own Side Fund!). I'm also doing the "Strongly Worded Notes" event with the Do It With Style discord, and I'm excited to say I was paired with LyricalKris and Maon25 for some epistolary fun! I also have a silly kaiju story I'm writing about two giant statues in Denver (The Big Blue Bear/Blucifer) that I hope to post soon."

She fell into his embrace like she was custom fit for it as they moved in rhythm, almost sharing a single heartbeat as their breaths fell in sync. She tapped the toe of her shoe just against his shiny wingtip, and slid her foot up the inside of his leg with a practiced enganche flourish.

It’s just a dance, she told herself. But something about the way he breathed a little more heavily into her ear made her breath speed up slightly too...” 

As mentioned earlier, Dragonfire42 loves performing, including magic acts.  Does she use these experiences as inspiration for stories?

“I do! I wrote "Jiggery Pokery" as a deep dive with my knowledge of magic, written from Professor Hoffman's (Aziraphale's mentor in magic) POV. I also wrote "Rainbow Connection" that's a human AU of Aziraphale and Crowley as puppeteers. Both of those I wrote for the Good Omens Theatre Bang and absolutely love the art that inspired those stories too! (I got SO excited about the art that I pulled over in a kayak in Florida to claim them for a story!!)” 

One reader shared this question for Dragonfire42: “What inspired you to show us Prof Hoffman's view of Aziraphale's magic skills? It was an inspired choice and you did it so beautifully.”

“Oh thank you! We don't often see our Ineffables interacting directly with humans, and I thought it was so interesting that Aziraphale mentions mentoring with Prof Hoffman when he shows Crowley the autographed book and it made me giggle picturing how that would have likely gone, and I thought it would be funny to have Hoffman's POV trying to figure out this kind and well-meaning but clumsy magician as a student. It also let me deep dive on the two magic books mentioned in Aziraphale's collection and the real-life mystery with those. I think outsider POV stories are so fun and I really enjoyed writing this one!”

Magic and whimsy hold a special place for Dragonfire42’s favorite writing themes:

“I think I've learned through all these different stories that I really enjoy writing stories with a magical realism theme, particularly healing stories that go a little deep, but are grounded in fun history facts or science knowledge in our world. I also really love writing comedy, and try to carry that through all my work. “Hissy Fit” and “Green Light” were both inspired by @gleafer art, and are two of my favorite comedy pieces I’ve written.”

Outside of writing, Dragonfire42 has shared an abundance of other creations with this fandom (Tumblr and AO3 links included):

“I made a shadow puppet crankie inside a pumpkin at Halloween predicting Season 3 .

I also did a series of magic tricks cosplaying as Fell the Marvelous.

And I made a miniature book nook of A.Z. Fell's Bookshop with some custom made miniatures that have easter eggs from all my fanfic stories (including a mini zine)!

I also recently made my first fan art for a House MD crossover I'm enjoying reading.

And I made a concrete poem of a feather for my story "Dream within a Dream" featured in this chapter.

I love all the ways to be creative in this fandom!”

Dragonfire42 shares these encouraging words for all those inspired to create for this fandom:

“The thing I love most about our fandom is how encouraging we are of artists at all skill levels. It's such a great outlet for ALL forms of creativity! I would encourage anyone who wants to jump in to do it! That's the great thing on AO3, there's no gatekeepers, anyone can post! I also highly encourage finding communities to join, like all the fun Discord ones or through Tumblr or Facebook, it's a great way to make friends. Been a minute since I've been able to draw or even post anything. And that's cuz I've been busy af with a job that's been slowly killing me for the last 8 months. But it's all good; I'm actually leaving that shithole at the end of the week. Yay! Maybe that means I can open up commissions again since I'll actually have time for them? Who's to say...

Anyway! Had a rough weekend at Fan Expo Chicago last week, and I've kinda had this in mind to draw ever since my disappointing interaction with Neil Newbon. He was very nice, but it felt pretty clear that he only really cared about Astarion. And, like, to a degree I get it? Astarion seems like a cool character that means a lot to a lot of people, but to act like no one cares anymore about Resident Evil Village cuz it's an "older game" (his words, not mine), kinda killed my mood for the weekend. Not to mention coming back with COVID. That was also a bummer...

*I* still love Heisenberg, at least. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. ❤️‍🩹

“Not good,” Pandora says, looking up at her mother, who is still looking at Evan with a mixture of worry and something else. Something that says she’s been here before. Familiarity. Understanding. Their mother gives the smallest shake of her head, then pulls her hand from Pandora’s to rest it on her daughter’s shoulder. “Some towels, please, Pandora. And a large bowl of water. Hurry.” She guides her daughter to the door, then closes it behind her, leaving Pandora alone in the hallway.  Pandora stares at the closed door like she’s attempting to look through it, to find her brother amidst the darkness surrounding her. She has never felt like this before, and thus cannot find a word to explain it. He is somewhere she is not.

Please infodump about the JayTimSteph Grotesquerie AU WIP if possible.

OF COURSE i've been thinking about it since i saw the trailer and now it's a little brainworm. (disclaimer i've not watched the first two episodes yet, this is like. solely on the vibes of the trailer. some details might change once i. watch the show depending on if i follow it or just go with the vibes the trailer gave me. which also means there will be no spoilers for the show if you care about that.)

the current idea involves Detective!Tim, Nun!Steph, and Priest!Jason. the vague idea for the plot so far is that a serial killer leaves a *very* artful display of a crime scene inside of the church that Jason and Steph operate out of. Tim is assigned as the leading detective on the case and ends up in a relationship with the both of them as he spirals in madness trying to catch the killer.

for Steph, i want to explore the idea of her father, Cluemaster, being a *very* prolific and artful serial killer who's whole gimmick was sending clues to the police until he was caught when Steph was still a child, and her and her mother were forced to go into witness protection for their own safety, which led her down the path of becoming a nun. it was a defining childhood moment for her to walk in on one of her father's crimes, so when she's the one who finds the crime scene in the church, it *immediately* sends her back to her childhood and she's caught between PTSD-fueled horror and a sick, enticing fascination. she wanted to become a journalist before going into WITSEC but that career was basically all but ruined for her. now she runs the small newspaper for the church and is desperate to write on the first "real" story she's ever had, dragging her into an intense obsession over the crime and trying to prove she can solve it.

for Jason, i want to deal with his history as Bruce. the current idea is that Bruce is Tim's police chief who adopted Jason and Dick from a young-ish age and raised them to be detectives, taking them to crime scenes as teenagers and teaching them the ins and outs of how criminals think. it leads to Dick becoming a detective, but when taking them to crime scenes led to Jason being kidnapped and brutally tortured by "Jack Napier", almost dying. Dick kills Napier to save Jason and it fractures their little family so badly that Dick switches departments to another city and Jason runs away at 17, eventually happening upon joining the clergy. he's the new, young priest in the church who's known for being very pretty but very emotionally distant even if he's nice enough. and he's *pissed* that Bruce is in his church investigating a murder and that no matter where Jason goes, he can't seem to get away from the horrors.

and for Tim, he's the young new detective in his department who is *entirely* unaware that he's been taken under Bruce's wing bc Bruce is treating him as a surrogate replacement for Dick and Jason. haven't fully decided his backstory yet, but it'll likely be similar to canon with losing his mother and father. i kind of want him to be lost and lacking a sense of direction. very gifted in noticing patterns and detective work, but it's clear he doesn't *really* want this job. and when he's assigned as the lead on a case that feels *way* too big for his experience bc Bruce is showing clear favoritism, he's forced to go to Steph for help, which leads to Jason ending up wrapped up with them too.

despite how heavy the plot *sounds*, i honestly want this fic to be like. 40% porn. like the show i want to explore a lot of fucked up sexual interests in Jason who's punishing himself for it, Steph being too interested in things for her own good and desperate for a taste of what "real life" feels like, and Tim just being incredibly repressed. like i want the line between horror and erotic to feel like a jumprope. lots of fucked up sex balanced with like. them actually trying to catch the killer. and then of course the emotional aspect of how Jason's baggage with Bruce works into all of it. also want Tim to have a mild hero worship for "the great Detective Dick Grayson" while being clueless that he's Bruce's son and Jason's brother. i sort of want it to be Steph-centric, but still have POVs from Tim and Jason just to round out their emotional arcs. i haven't fully decided everyone else who'll be in the fic but i know i want Cass to be a fellow nun and friend of Steph's, Babs to also work at the church, Helena to be Tim's favorite coworker, and possibly for Damian to be around somehow. those roles will probably get more fleshed out when i. watch the damn show tho.

anyway TLDR: religious imagery, body horror, kinky sex, and a mystery that might break everyone psychologically once they get to the bottom of it. i have some very specific scenes and dialogue planned out. probably cannibalism as a metaphor for love thrown in there too. idk i just want these three to be as fucked up as possible and unhinged about each other but fighting their repressed side with their unhinged feral side. and since it doesn't exist by god I'll create it.

so this year is the 5th anniversary of my webcomic! i've been working on it for 5 years! : D how am i celebrating the milestone?

by starting the story over from scratch and rereleasing it as a novel with illustrations instead of a comic lmao

this isn't set in stone yet and i'm going to do a test chapter (after some much needed story revamping) to see if people actually like it in this format, but yeah i am. very tired and burnt out still from working on my comic and it has been a slog to tell the story i want to tell. i ultimately want to make it a comic at some point, but right now, i just want to get the story out there.

also this could even lead to me doing stuff like making an audiobook version or doing an animated segment at some point. i don't want it to just be a comic anymore, and i'm really excited to make new things for this project
