'The Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials are almost here with the Noble family set to return and, along with Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) comes the return of Shaun Temple (Karl Collins).

Shaun first appeared in the 2009 Christmas special The End of Time and has found his place in the Noble family.

He returns in the first 60th anniversary special, The Star Beast. Here's everything you need to know about him.

Who is Shaun Temple in Doctor Who?

Taxi driver Shaun is Donna's husband, with the pair of them getting married in The End of Time Part 2.

He's unaware of Donna's adventures with the Doctor but, at the end of the specials, after Donna's memories are wiped, the Time Lord gifts the family a winning lottery ticket.

Shaun is also the father of Rose Noble, Donna's daughter, played by Yasmin Finney. They'll return alongside Jacqueline King (Sylvia Noble) in the first special, with the late Bernard Cribbins, who played Donna's grandfather Wilfred Mott, also expected to appear at some point in the specials.

As for what role Shaun's set to play over the course of the specials, only time will tell – but we're sure he's got a lot coming his way.

Who is Shaun Temple actor Karl Collins?

Karl Collins, who plays Shaun, is known for various roles across British TV, appearing in The Bill, Casualty, Holby City, and 55 Degrees North.

In 2011, he appeared in the Black Mirror episode The Entire History of You and, from 2015 to 2019, he played Louis Loveday in Hollyoaks.

He first appeared in Doctor Who in 2009 and will be returning very soon!'

Jarry Reunited, The Wicked Step-Father and Louis Love-Dead...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (21st - 25th January 2019)

It was goodbye to the Lovedays this week as the three original members of the family bid farewell to Chester. At the pig farm, Louis was terrified having discovered that Breda was the village’s latest serial killer but he soon came up with a plan to get himself released. Knowing that Breda was keen for Louis to reconnect with Leela, Louis told her that that’s what he intended to do. Breda was delighted with the news and agreed to let Louis go, but her plans hit a serious snag when Simone turned up out of the blue. Having overheard Breda criticising her to Leela, Simone wanted to have a word with her and rather than just head round to the McQueen’s later, Simone decided to track Breda down at the farm. Luckily for Breda, she was able to get rid of Simone, but Louis used the situation to his own advantage and made a bid for freedom whilst Breda was distracted. Unfortunately, having two broken legs and being confided to a wheelchair seriously limits the amount of ground one can cover and Louis didn’t get very far before Breda caught up with him...

Breda was furious with Louis for trying to escape and began to question his trust in her. Her suspicions were confirmed when she discovered her confession down the side of Louis’ bed, and realised that he was only saying what he thought she wanted to hear regarding Leela. Despite Louis pleas, Breda whacked him round the head with a phone, killing him. Later, as Breda disposed of Louis’ belongings, a mystery figure was seen watching her. Meanwhile, back in the village, with Louis out of her life, Simone made plans to leave the village, telling her family that she was going to transfer to another Price Slice store in Derby. However, Martine kindly gifted Simone her air miles, telling her to go to Jamaica instead. Zack was also heading for pastures new when he received a message from Holly. The pair declared their love to each other via video call and Zack quickly decided to join her in Paris. As Lisa said goodbye to two family members she soon gained another, when Breda forced her to spend some time with Daniel by ‘accidentally’ leaving him in the shop. Breda was delighted when she overheard Lisa tell Leela that she’d enjoyed having Daniel around and offered to look after him again in the future.

Elsewhere, keen to discredit Jonny, Sinead got in contact with Ste’s step-father, Terry, hoping that he could provide some much needed answers on the newcomer’s identity. Terry proved to be no help in this department and soon set about trying to worm his way back into Ste’s life, claiming to be a changed man. Persuading Ste to give him a place to stay, Terry then stole from Leela’s purse and conned Ste into giving him money for a job interview. The wool was finally pulled from over Ste’s eyes when he walked in on Terry picking on Lucas and demanded that his step-father leave. Terry agreed, but on one condition; Ste help him steal the new TV’s about to be installed at The Bean. Ste reluctantly agreed but soon got cold feet and called the police, who sadly arrived too late to catch Terry in the act. Terry was furious that Ste had gone against him and brutally beat him up. The following day, with Scott being blamed for the break-in, Ste confided in Jonny about Terry’s role, and the abuse he’d subjected him to. Jonny promised to help Ste, and got his henchmen to beat Terry, seemingly to death, in a car park whilst he was trying to flog the stolen TVs. 

Meanwhile, Harry was crushed when James rejected him again in favour of building a relationship with Romeo. Keen to help his friend move on, Zack set Harry up with one of mates, however, the date was interrupted by James, who was left upset to see Harry supposedly moving on. With a big shove from Romeo, James was encouraged to go back to The Hutch and tell Harry how he really felt. James declared his love for Harry in front of the packed restaurant and was delighted when Harry agreed to give their relationship another shot. 

Also this week, there was delight for Alfie and Yasmine when both were offered internships; Alfie in America and Yaz with the Chester Herald. However, Alfie soon worried about leaving Cindy whilst she was still unwell and decided he wasn’t going. Going against Alfie’s wishes, Yaz told Cindy about the internship, and she begged her son not to put his life on hold for her. Alfie then worried about leaving Yaz behind for the duration of his placement and secretly arranged some work experience for her at a newspaper close to where he would be based. Unfortunately, Yaz didn’t take the surprise well, believing that Alfie thought her placement in Chester wasn’t good enough. She soon came round and agreed to go with him, but wasn’t sure that Misbah would let her go. She’s 18, isn’t she? Misbah gets no say...

In other news this week, Diane was furious when she spotted Lily and Romeo kissing and her aunt’s reaction devastated her so much that she started self harming again. Finally, Sienna was left feeling uncomfortable again after another run in with Laurie at school. 

5 Things We Learnt This Week:

1. Good manners cost nothing. Breda McQueen is a lot of things: Nanny, man hater, serial killer. However, you can’t fault her manners. She’ll always make sure she gives herself the cheap, cracked crockery.

2. Filming restrictions are easy to get round. “Holly’s meant to be in France, but obviously we can’t go there to film just one scene, so how do we make it clear to the audience that that’s where she is?” “I know! Just stick her in a beret and stripy top! Job done!”

3. Money worries are easily forgotten. Remember all the fuss made about Lily and Prince’s money troubles last year? Why is Lily now living with Tony and Diane, when she’s presumably still paying for the place she had with Prince? That’s not going to help the purse strings! 

4. It’s important to make use of every bit of space you have. Location filming can be difficult. It can be expensive and you might not find the right location for the time you need it. It’s far easier, therefore, to stick up a couple of signs in the grounds of the set and make sure that no buildings are in shot. Dot a couple of picnic tables around and have a couple of dressing-gown clad extras and nurses walk about and et voila, you’ve got yourself a private mental health hospital! 

5. It’s important to advertise your business and many people do so using their cars. But forget a window or bumper sticker, that’s going to get you nowhere. Breda advertises her services as a nanny by having a giant teddy bear on the roof of her car. I wonder if any other villagers will start doing likewise? Tony could have a giant knife and fork, Jesse a pair of scissors and a comb and Liam a bag of cocaine and a gun.

Hi! I'm curious about some Alchemy in The Little White Horse. What is the purpose of Miss Heliotrope and Old Parson and their union? The book has three marriages take place (Maria/Robin, Ben/Loveday and Heliotrope/Parson). I think I can see the symbolism of Ben and Loveday (they're sun and moon), but Heliotrope and Old Parson escapes me.

Thanks for the ask. So rare for people to read TLWH these days.

I have always interpreted Miss H and the Old Parson's union as part of the matrimoniathon that often ends an alchemy story--as part of the happily ever after that results from the achievement of the Philosopher's Stone. Tolkien coined a word for it--Eucatastrophe--and there are lots of weddings and general prosperity at the end of LOTR.

Miss Heliotrope's name marks her as growing toward, yearning for the sun. I don't have the book with me here, but perhaps the Old Parson is marked as the sun in some way. His name, Louis de Fontenelle, doesn't provide any clues. However, two things about him may be significant: He is French, so his marriage to the English Jane Heliotrope, might signify the reconciliation of opposites. Also, the two were sweethearts when they were young, so their long separation and then joining back together fits with the Separation and Conjunction stages of alchemy.

Moonacre Week 2021

Day 1: Zoom/video calls

Maria fiddled with her hair as the two screens popped up and came to life.

“Stop that”, Robin muttered. “You look fine.”

“I’m in hospital.”

“And that’s the worst of it,” he reassured her. “Is your mic on?”

“Not yet. I, um…”

“I’m going to get another cup of tea from the cafeteria, shall I?”

She gave him a smile that reached her eyes before her mouth. Robin smiled back and left.

“Maria, dear!”

Miss Heliotrope’s voice sounded even higher than usual. Maybe it was the microphone. Maria adjusted her earphones and switched her mic on. “Hello, Mama. Hi, Ben.”

“Maria, really, what did you do? I’m so worried – they just called and said you were in hospital – what happened?”

“I’m fine. It’s just hypothermia. No injuries or anything.”

“Hypo- what did you do, you careless girl?”

“I – ah – fell into the sea?”

“The sea?” The light of the screen painted the rings beneath Benjamin’s eyes even darker. “I thought you wanted to go see some ruins?”

“We did. But it was…we didn’t spend a lot of time there. There was a beach nearby. We wanted to make the most of the day.” The lies slipped from her lips easier than pearls from wet fingers.

“Certainly did,” Benjamin muttered. “Where’s Robin, anyway?”

“Gone to get tea.”

“Hm.”

“Benjamin. Don’t give him a hard time, he’s been beating himself up –”

“He had better!” Loveday’s voice yelled in Benjamin’s background. He rolled his eyes and switched his mic off to respond to her.

“My dear,” Miss Heliotrope said. “What do you need? Will they keep you there? We can be there in no time – bring you clothes and soup –”

“Thank you.” Maria smiled again. “But I can go home soon, they said. I’m to stay in bed for a day or two, so I don’t catch a cold. But I’ll be fine. Really, you don’t need to come over. I’ll be there for your birthday soon!”

She saw Louis’s hand on her Mama’s shoulder but before he could say anything, the door to Maria’s room opened and Robin pushed through, carrying two large Styrofoam cups and a paper bag. “Oh, you shouldn’t have!”

“Yes, I should’ve.” He closed the door and came over to her bed. As Maria accepted her tea and peeked into the bag (raisin and raspberry buns, apparently), Loveday’s face appeared next to Benjamin’s.

Robin glanced at the screen. “Hi, Miss Heliotrope. Heya, Loves, Ben.”

“Robin.” Loveday sounded equally amused and angry. “Which hare-brained scheme of yours –”

“It wasn’t his idea,” Maria said firmly.

“Maria. You hate the sea.” Benjamin frowned.

“I – it wasn’t Robin’s fault,” she insisted. Exchanged a look with Robin. He mirrored her small, knowing smile.

“We were…spontaneous. And then the weather took us by surprise. And I fell into the sea. And if it hadn’t been for Robin, I would be a lot worse now.”

“Spontaneous?” Loveday raised a brow. “Is that what the kids call it these days?”

“Oh, Loveday.” Miss Heliotrope covered her mouth, and Louis’s face came into view, if only to give Maria an inquisitive glance.

Maria sighed. “Look, whatever you’re insinuating…”

“She’s blushing!” Loveday grinned at Benjamin, who looked as uncomfortable as Maria felt. Her throat seemed tight, and the shivering returned.

Robin leaned over her shoulder and reached for the keyboard. “Oh, no,” he said flatly before switching the camera off. “Reception here is really bad.”

“Robin.”

“In fact, I think we’re going through a tunnel, I can’t hea- krrrrchht, chhrt, shhhhh.” Robin switched the microphone off, too.

“Robin,” Maria repeated with a sigh.

“Maria,” he said, emulating her tone. “You’re shaking again. Do you want to take a minute before going back?” He nodded at the screen.

“Hm. Yes.” She clasped her tea. “Can’t breathe.”

“The pearls are gone, Maria,” he said softly. “You’re safe.”

When her fingers twitched, he took the tea from her. She typed ‘sorry, doctor’s round – let’s talk tomorrow’ in the chat before logging off.

“Are you sure?” Robin muttered.

“Yes. There’s time – I’m not ready.”

“Alright.”

“Robin.” She kept saying his name, as if to ground herself. “I’m cold.”

“Do you want your jumper?”

She didn’t reply, just reached out and wrapped her fingers around his wrist in a silent plea. Robin swallowed and put down his tea. Then he sat down on the bed next to her – carefully, carefully –, switched the tablet off and put it aside, and put an arm around her shoulder.

Maria sighed and leaned into him, shivering a little less.

Mercy Madness, Locked up Louis and Brollie...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (14th-18th January 2019)

Mercedes, Mercedes, Mercedes. You’d have hoped that being a Mum to two young kids would have forced her to grow up a bit. But alas, it’s not to be. Having discovered last week that she’d been left out of Russ’ will, Mercedes entered self destruct mode and instead of looking after poorly Nana, went out partying with Liam. The following morning, Myra arrived to get the boys ready for school and was horrified to find Nana passed out in the living room. A dash to the hospital ensued and Mercedes struggled to hide her guilt. However, she wasn’t upset for too long as that evening, Liam and his mates arrived for their own private drug fuelled party in The Dog flat.  Max and Bobby were left frightened when one of the drunk party goers suddenly burst into their bedroom and the following morning, Mercedes was alarmed to discover that the boys had barricaded themselves in their room. Mercedes apologised to Max and Bobby but later found herself in hot water when Lisa, who was jealous at the amount of time Mercedes was spending with Liam, planted some drugs on her and called the police. Luckily for Mercedes, DS Yates was assigned the case and he quickly dropped the matter when Liam walked into the room. 

Mercedes realised she’d been set up and lunged at Lisa, however, her violent reaction was witnessed by Bobby, who phoned Sylver for help. Sylver arrived at The Dog to find Mercedes in a terrible state and promptly took Max and Bobby to Myra’s. The following day, Mercedes was keen to put things right and got the flat ready for the boys coming back from school. However, she was left devastated when she realised that Max and Bobby blamed themselves for her recent behaviour and was soon reaching for the drugs...

Meanwhile, Breda continued to keep Louis hostage at the pig farm, all in the guise of looking after him. Keen to ensure that Louis stuck to his promises regarding being a good Dad to Daniel, Breda suggested that he write Leela a letter, telling him how sorry he was in the hope that she would take him back. However, Breda was left frustrated when Leela refused to read the letter and Louis eventually decided that he’d rather be with Simone anyway! As the week wore on, Louis became fed up of looking at the same four walls and tried to leave the room. So imagine his horror when he realised he was locked in! Breda insisted that she had only locked the door due to force of habit but it was clear Louis still had his suspicions and with good reason, when he later discovered that the notepad Breda had given him contained the anonymous confession she’d given to the police at Christmas...

Elsewhere, love was in the air for Ollie and Brooke as the pair arranged their first date. Unfortunately, the pair faced opposition from Imran, who was still hoping that Brooke would take him back. However, Imran eventually acknowledged that this wouldn’t happen and wished his friends well. Heading to The Hutch for their date, Ollie was soon mortified when he realised he didn’t have enough money. Luckily, Tony cottoned on to the youngster’s predicament and offered them two meals for the price of one. Things seemed to be going well until Ollie became spooked and ran off when Brooke put her hand on his knee. The following day, Ollie confided in Imran that he’d been reminded of Buster and was worried that he’d never be able to have a proper relationship due to the abuse he’d suffered. Imran encouraged Ollie to be honest with Brooke and there was relief all round when Brooke told Ollie she was happy to take things as slow as he wanted. 

Also this week, Joel was back in the village and doing what he does best; helping the needy (which does not include Goldie, by the way). Joel was alarmed to discover that he’d set up his soup kitchen right outside gangster magnet, The Loft, and that Liam was dealing drugs from inside. Keen to get him to stop, Joel broke in to the club and stole his drug money, which he decided to donate to the soup kitchen. And it seems he’s got away with it, too, and Liam quickly assumed that Sylver was responsible. Joel Dexter: Chester’s very own Robin Hood!

In other news this week, Goldie carried on the McQueen family tradition of lusting after priests when she spotted Father Paul helping out at Joel’s soup kitchen. Brody struggled to cope following Buster’s trial and moved in with Sienna for a change of scene. Finally, Ste volunteered himself and Jonny to watch Hannah and Daniel for the evening, but was most put out when Sinead and Leela appeared uneasy. Keen to prove that there was something dodgy about Jonny, Sinead looked in his wallet and discovered his fake ID...

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. Bobby’s earned his swimming badge for treading water. That’ll be useful for when the next water based disaster hits the village!

2. Take a few months away from the dramas of Chester and you’ll develop amnesia, it seems. Joel was horrified to discover that Liam was dealing drugs from The Loft, and about the amount of crime in general that goes on in the village. You’ve visited Hollyoaks before, right Joel? Your own Father was the perpetrator of a lot of the crime, too. Why the surprise?

3. Liam has Lisa down as ‘Lisa Loves-to-lay’ in his phone. Is he a gangster or a 14 year old boy? Well, he’s neither of those things, really. I’ve seen more threatening characters on CBeebies. 

4. There’s nothing like the smell of pig muck to help clear the mind and help you forget that you’re being held hostage. If Louis wasn’t mad before, he will be now...

5. Little Bobby’s a poetry genius, although he did miss a few bits out of his poem about Mercedes. There was no mention of that time she staged a kidnapping of him. Or that time she was held hostage in a vault after having an affair with her future Father in law. Or that time she stabbed herself and pinned it on her arch nemesis...

Look, I get he's a single parent now, but let's not forget the fact he fucked another woman while married even if he and his wife were apart from each other at the time on account of his cheating, knew he had a secret son while said wife was breaking herself apart about her fertility problems, let his son see the woman he'd impregnated, forced his son to keep it a secret for 'your mother and sister', believed the accusations that his son hurt his baby brother, accused said son of hurting his baby brother and was a dick to Luke Morgan whose story he must have at least heard about given how everyone knows everyone's shit in Hollyoaks.

Who do you think Bredas next victim are ? I think the body in the pond is louis loveday(cause she took his body off the farm/leela talking to the cops) and that she attempts to kill tony but something stops her. Plus laim feels too obvious and she wont kill Mercedes but if someone figures her out ie liza since jack has louis ring.

The body could very definitely be Louis’. That ring has to play a part in her downfall somehow. Joel could be in trouble for being a bad Father, which would be a fun spin on the bad dad MO, especially considering how Catholic Breda considers herself. Would she murder a priest?
