My Necronomicon Pendant Necklace
The Necronomicon book as featured in the works of H.P. Lovecraft - said to have originally been written by Abdul Anzared, the "Mad Arab", in approximately 738 AD and to contain accounts of the Old Ones, their history and the means by which to summon them.
This Necronomicon design features hand carved reliefs containing ancient symbols to bind, contain and capture the dark secrets held with in the book. The reliefs on the long sides of the book are abstract depictions of Cthulhu and Yog-Sothoth. The corner caps of the book are engraved with the Elder Sign, which is said to hold the Old Ones and their servants at bay. The Necronomicon pendant is hinged so that it can open and close. Open the book to find the infamous Necronomicon rhyming couplet written in Arabic, the original language of the book:
"That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons even death may die."

Named after an old New England town and founded by John Conrad and John Kirowan of the Wanderer’s Club, the Dunwich dorm is one that values boldness, bravery, curiosity, skepticism, foolheartedly courage and adventurous-type exploration. Dunwich is known for having a somewhat dual-nature due to its two founders, but all people in Dunwich are united by a spirit of bravery, adventure and a dedication to the truth. Students in Dunwich can also have the negative aspects of self-righteousness, endangering self and others, clinging to false truths if overwhelmed by biases, and falling victim to one’s own egoism. The emblem of Dunwich is a snake wrapped around an apple emblazoned by the patron of Dunwich: the Leviathan.
The most notable Dunwich student in the Eldritch County canon was Randolph Carter.
Join us at World of Eldritch County, a queer friendly and inclusive-of-all rp site, where you can explore Arkham through our many forums, take classes at Miskatonic, join a club (or a cult to an old god), and interact with other Arkhamites in our interactive chats!
If you would be interested in joining a Dunwich dorm team, including the noticeboard journalists, topics and events team, or student welcoming team, then please mail Ulysses Verlice on site!

The Day We Ate Grandad

Blurb ~ Coming 2023
Three possible futures. Two versions of the apocalypse. One chance to save the world.
Wes Porter, a severely depressed insanity-inducing playboy, is detoxing from hallucinogens that have unlocked his ability to see versions of potential futures - and he's just foreseen two ways the world could end. Normally, Wes would leave the hero bullshit to somebody else, but he can't abdicate responsibility this time... not when both those apocalypses might be his fault.
With some prompting from a mythological bard-prophet who may or may not be real, and a lot of assistance from his monster-eating baby sister who desperately wants to move out of his apartment, and their soothsayer cousin who has his own demons to fight, Wes attempts to save [his] world... but have his poor decisions doomed them all?
THE DAY WE ATE GRANDAD is the third book in the Pagham-on-Sea series. It is a dysfunctional family cosmic horror novel for fans of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES, and THE CALL OF CTHULHU, with themes of bereavement and grief, generational trauma, and a dash of Roman/Welsh mythology.

Lovecraftian misconception of the day
One key element to Lovecraft's "Mythos" that tends to be forgotten or overlooked by modern adaptations is that Lovecraft never truly intended to have a fully "esoteric" world. He wanted a rational form of horror, not magical horrors.
I know, I know, you're going to point out that he created eldritch god venerated by mad cults ; he took inspirations from mythologies and demons from around the world ; his books are filled with mad sorcerers and forbidden spellbooks and undead witches and grotesque vampires...
But that's only superficial. Think about it, read in details.
All of the Great Old Ones, all of the deities that are the idols of those insane cults - they are not "gods". They are explicitely stated to be alien lifeforms that are simply so ancient and powerful they were treated as gods. But they are not gods.
His "magic" is always explicitely said to be an advanced and unusual form of science: Lovecraft insisted that magic rites were often simply opening dimensional portals or warping the space-time continuum ; incantations are constantly compared to mathematic formulae, his esoterism relies heavily on things such as geometry.
His demons and monsters are usually explained as lost species that existed before the arrival of mankind ; as aliens from other planets/galaxies/dimensions, or as time-travelling entities.
While he created a world of grimoires and dark gods and threatening demons, Lovecraft expressed his own form of atheism and the very scientific view of the early 20th century world into his horror by creating a realm of abominable aliens, of creatures overpassing the limits of time and dimensions, by showing the eldritch extremes and nightmarish possibilities offered by science and physics.
But he always insisted on, for example, Cthulhu not being a god, but just a really big alien that could squish us into goo and that people HAPPENED to consider a god. (Heck, Cthulhu himself is just the "head priest" of his own civilization/species)
EDIT: This is why The Laundry Files is such a good adaptation of the Lovecraftian mythos. It truly fully embraces the “sci-fi disguised as mythical horror” aspect. It takes back the “magic is mathematic formulae” angle fully with how computers can summon by accident eldritch abominations ; it truly insist on most of the antagonist being actually results of scientific experiments gone wrong ; secret species you don’t know about ; invaders from another planet, or entities from an alternate timeline ; it has characters that can only evolve and survive in the Lovecraftian world by knowing physics and all sorts of sciences perfectly.

I gotta introduce my goobers now so here they are
Name: Salem Blackrune Age: 24 Gender: Non-Binary (they/them) Abilities: By themselves, Salem has no power, but with the use of specific tomes and items, they can do some ritual magic. Personality: Salem is a cold person, and as a result, they aren't very open. They are misanthropic, and have no care or love for humanity, so they have a very low sense of empathy. However, this is a front for the most part to avoid coping with their personal trauma and problems. Salem is also very brutally honest and can sometimes be sassy and borderline bitchy. Backstory: Salem was born in the United States in 1970 to a small family. Their father was absent and their mother died when they were very young. Salem began coping as a teenager by mostly diving into the occult. As soon as they could, they moved out of their parents' house and went to college. They got a degree in Fine Arts, but couldn't get a job in the field, so they currently work at a small second-hand shop in their town.
Name: Apollyon, The Angel of the Bottomless Pit Age: As old as the Earth itself Gender: Masculine presenting, Gender Ambiguous (he/they) Abilities: Apollyon is capable of many great feats of magic and power. Teleportation, reality distortion and manipulation, illusion creating, telepathic, telekinetic, capable of invading dreams, etc. His abilities don't really have limits. Personality: Apollyon is a very cunning and dangerous entity, not one to easily reason with and very sinister... or that is at least what he'd want you to believe. In truth, Apollyon is a strangely awkward being that has very little social decorum (he is very much autistic coded.) Unlike Salem, he is always incredibly blunt and open with how he feels and what he thinks. He likes to portray himself as scary, but those who know him are not fooled. Backstory: One of the former beings of creation, Apollyon was created to be the destroyer of the world, and was prophesized to be the bringer of the Age of Destruction and Despair. Thousands of years ago, he was defeated by an old enemy and was sealed away. He was reawakened by Salem, who was summoning him for their own personal gain. As a result, in the modern day, he lives with Salem and basically acts as a roommate.
