Phantom Red/Twin terror (official name TBA)
About time I start talking about the changes in their backstory. Starting with Kyōka!!
We'll leave Chūya, and Kenji for last; they might've been the main inspo for the au, but I need to finish Stormbringer first.
I've come to warn you that these points are far from summarized, don't let the arrows fool you, I'm just trash at shortening anything I write.
Kyōka:
→ Kyōka's parents were murdered by demon snow as in canon, and her wish for someone to strike down demon snow, and then herself, remained strong. The difference is that the ability transition was perfect, and the phone in this universe is but a token of her mother's love. (She'll never willingly let anyone know about it; she'd rather die than lose her mother's last gift)
«→ Kyōka (like canon) thinks that demon snow is her ability, and wasn't able to fully digest that it wasn't hers, nor the demon's fault.»
→ She roamed the streets alone, her hatred for demon snow increasing by the day. She did not know where she was headed, but a few signs indicated she was on the outskirts of 'Yokohama'. Unfortunately for her, the demon wouldn't go away; it remained vigilant, and on guard to protect her; she didn't appreciate that in the least since it drove everyone away, and all those who seemed capable in size, and muscle to take her down cowered away.
→ She was around 13 (several months after her parents' death, and a few weeks after arriving in Yokohama.) when she finally lost hope in finding anyone that would fulfill her wish to die, therefore deciding to do it herself. She ran into different people on her way to the harbor, where she decided to drown demon snow, then herself since she was yet to find someone willing–and capable–to cut down the demon.
→ The first was a young woman, her crown adorned with long, bright auburn hair, and clothes that were of western elegance, however ragged, and stained they currently were. It was quite strange, nearly no one should be passing by here, at least not at this hour. 'she must've been in some sort of physical conflict, a fight probably.' (Kyōka could swear she saw some blood on the woman in multiple places, but it was too dark out to fully tell). Kyōka didn't plan on paying her any mind before the lady approached with firm footsteps, and while Kyōka expected anything, she didn't expect her to ask for a handkerchief. Kyōka didn't think she seemed well off at all herself, and the truth is exactly that, but she did have a handkerchief an old resident gifted to her the other day. What raised Kyōka's attention was how calm the lady was with the demon—it spawned soon as the lady was in vicinity—stealing a few calculated glances, but never moving to attack, nor defend herself. The woman took the handkerchief, but before she had the chance to wipe her stained dress, her eyes flitted behind Kyōka with something akin to annoyance. The lady's tongue clickef as she lifted her arms to fold over her chest. Kyōka was admittedly intrigued, and tried to follow her gaze.
→ The one in question was the second person she came across, and he turned out to be a man in his early to mid thirties. The man claimed to be the auburn lady's father, looking quite 'hurt' at his daughter's apparent distaste. The said daughter gave him a pointed look that implied something regarding Kyōka, but she was brushed off, much to her irritation.
→The youngest was aware of the gazes directed at demon snow, and herself, which were quite disquieting in a subtle manner; Kyōka was being analysed, and she didn't like it one bit. The demon seems to be an object of interest rather than a threat to these two, and since they made no moves to harm it, they might possibly want something with it; they seemed to be a shady bunch, and Kyōka wasn't too keen on being involved, she has a date with death, and she's already running late. She excused herself with nothing more than a nod, and resumed her venture to the harbor. However, before Kyōka could turn the corner, the man insisted on apologizing on his daughter's behalf by having Kyōka over for a cup of tea, and maybe give her a ride home. The man introduced himself as a doctor in a nearby clinic. Mōri Ougai was his name. His invitation was wordlessly declined (ignored).
→ Kyōka makes it to the harbour, and attempts to drown demon snow by ordering it to jump in first as she followed shortly after (this was after tucking her phone into a waterproof ziplock bag she stole from a grocery store) ordering the demon to not save her beforehand. She was finally on the verge of accomplishing her goal, and finally achieving her goal... Only to feel the dread of consciousness returning to her, the somewhat familiar face of a doctor being the first thing she sees. She's far too faint to attempt getting up, but it would've been easier had her movement not been restricted by buckle straps fastened around both her arms, legs, and lower stomach. She fixes her eyes onto the doctor passively, subtly questioning this strange predicament. He took his cue, and explained how he managed to save her (he was "passing by", and happened to witness her jumping) before it was too late. Kyōka kept her gaze up vacantly, which was a sign for the doctor to continue. He promises her death, a painless one at that, and while that was far from a necessary addition, the former offer seemed intriguing enough. He unstrapped her from her patient's bed, and layed out his terms.

of perilous desire
chapter one - se mōris (the end)
vampire!Aemond x f!reader (modern AU)
Tumblr media
story synopsis: the reader works the night shift as a receptionist at the local hospital. Someone comes in one night to drop off a patient, and she subsequently suspects that this person is pursuing her. Why is there no real trace of him anywhere? Why does she see him in her dreams? Here begins a craving that may be never be satiated, a desire so perilous it might cost her everything...
word count: <1k ▪︎ masterlist
Tumblr media
The night is young.
You've just made your third trip to the personnel break room, filling up on a much-needed caffeine fix, slumping back in your swivel chair in a bored huff.
It's 3 in the morning, which means you have four more hours to go. Oh joy.
Working in the hospital is decent enough; it pays the bills, it keeps you from being unemployed. But it feels like it's supposed to be a transitioning - a jumping off point into bigger and better things. When you were a child, your dream certainly was not to be a night receptionist at a hospital. But it's been a year, and you are still here for some reason.
Were you stuck? Perhaps you have grown complacent? You're meant to be doing something else, something worthwhile, and you know this. Granted, you do help people to some extent, but nurses and doctors are the true heroes.
Anyone with a semi-decent high school education can do your job.
The coffee is stale, and it suspiciously tastes of the antiseptic that is always in the air. You drink it anyway, grimacing with every sip.
The tap tap tapping of your pen against the desk distracts you, and it must have kept you from noticing the new arrival.
"Excuse me."
You snap up, half in a daze, the coffee doing nothing for your alertness.
And you see him. Clad in all black - leather overcoat, leather shoes, well-pressed trousers. Long white-blonde hair flowing smoothly down his back, neatly kept away from his face. One eye a blazing purple, the other a ghostly white. He looked like something out of the gothic romance novels you used to read in middle school.
Unusual. Poised. Beautiful.
You have to swallow hard in order to find the strength to speak."How... how can I help you, sir?"
"My... friend," he says, coolly maintaining eye contact that it's almost unnerving. Or maybe it's the effect he has on people, looking the way he does. "She needs some assistance."
"Oh," you stand up, looking behind him and seeing the woman slumped on the bench in the waiting area. Leaning against one arm, with her black hair partially obscuring her face. She blinks as if in a stupor when the man glances at her, smiling goofily despite her state. "Is she alright?" you ask him, and he doesn't answer, only continuing to stare at you. You press on the paging system, calling on a nurse to come her aid.
You come over and crouch down in front of her. "What's happened? Can you tell me your name?"
She giggles wildly, like you just cracked the funniest joke. "My name is Alys," she says. "At least I think so." You notice her pallid complexion, her lips taking on a bluish tint. She appears to be awake but not truly aware of her surroundings.
The nurse on duty is taking a while, so you turn back to the man. "What happened to her? Does she have a concussion? Are you her husband or a relative?"
Seconds pass. You look at him expectantly, but he gives you nothing. He tilts his head at you, eyes narrowing, like a predator sizing up his prey.
"Hmm," he finally makes a sound, though it isn't really a response.
Growing impatient, you stride behind your desk and recover the necessary forms. "I'm going to need you to fill these - "
When you turn to address him, he's gone.
One of the nurses, Patrick, arrives to assist the woman called Alys.
He goes through the motions, flashing a penlight in her eyes, checking her pulse, asking her simple questions to keep her conscious.
"She came in alone?" he asks you, as he waves another nurse to come help.
"No," you shake your head, "her companion was just here. A man - "
"What man? Did he run away or something?"
Did he? He had seemingly vanished in a split second, and you were sure you didn't hear him rushing out the front doors. You didn't hear anything at all.
"I don't know," you shrug, confused. "He didn't even fill in a form or anything."
The nurses manage to situate Alys in a wheelchair, the dark-haired woman still smiling and mumbling to herself. Just as they wheel her away, you hear her soft voice crooning, "Ae-mond, oh, my Aemond!"
"Well, shit," you mutter, the momentary commotion had come and gone. The coffee still sits on your desk, now cold. The air still smelled of sickening sterility.
You were still, as dramatic as it sounds, lost and adrift. You snort to yourself. What a thought.
If only you could have your head in the clouds, all blissed out, like the Alys woman. Though her state was likely brought on by hard drugs.
Or was it him?
Everything is the same. Except that the stranger has become ingrained your mind.
Who was he?
An hour later, you stand outside in the portico, cigarette balanced between your fingers. It's a nasty habit, sure, but people would probably be shocked at how common it is among the hospital staff. The nurses, even.
You're supposed to feel terrible about it, working at an establishment that champions health, but you justify it in that you're just a receptionist. Weren't the medical professionals the real hypocrites? How else will you keep awake?
The smoke billows out of your lips. You watch their shapes dissipating in the cold morning air, entranced.
Suddenly, you sense something shuffle from the corner of your eye. Shivers erupt all over your arms, your mind immediately grasping at the worst possible scenario.
"Hello?" This is how the side characters die in horror movies, quickly and unceremoniously, forgotten before the main act actually begins. Your shaking hand squashes the cigarette down on the wall-mounted ashtray.
It was probably nothing, likely one of the stray kittens running around. Despite that, you determinedly walk back to the entrance, fists bunched in your pockets.
Then there's something again. A gust of wind. A flash of pale blonde hair. A feeling like you're being watched.
Is the entrance so far? You're going to get kidnapped, you're sure of it.
The doors are in sight, those lifeless glass windows within reach, when you're spun around swiftly that you don't have time to think of anything at all.
You're floating, your feet had left the ground.
Pushed into something smooth, cocooned around your paralysed form. Leather.
He hushes you, brushing his lips against your cheek, featherlike, careful not to make full contact. You want to fight, you should fight, but you can't.
Something coaxes you into accepting this, so you do.
The painful prick against your neck is momentary. Followed by complete and utter bliss.
Your final thought is the word Alys was singing so sweetly. That strange name, which now exits your lips like a prayer.
"Aemond."

Valyrian Name Meanings
I am just really too into baby names and High Valyrian, so here comes a long post about both. So what follows is my headcanon completely, though certain choices (i.e. Aegon) I feel are just too coincidental for David J. Peterson not to have done it on purpose.
Based on established Valyrian words, grouped by root
Aegon: from āegenkon, iron
Aelor, Aelora, Aelyx: from  ēlie, first
Aemon, Aemond, Aemma: from aemagon or emagon, to have, own, or contain
Aenys, Aenar: from añogar, blood
Aerea, Aerion, Aerys: from aeragon or aerēbagon, to travel
Aethan: from itatagon, to finish
Alyssa, Alysanne: from ālion, a piece of land
Baelon, Baela, Baelor: from baelagon, to help
Corlys, Corwyn: from korzion, Valyrian steel
Daemion, Daemon: from tēmagon, to prick or poke
Daeron, Daella: from dāez, free
Elaena, Helaena, Laena, Laenor: from elēni, voice or music
Gael: from gēlyn, debt
Gaemon: from gēlyn, debt, and mōris, end
Jacaerys: from jaes, deity, and sēter, spell
Jaehaerys, Jaehaera: from jaes, deity, and aeragon or aerēbagon, to travel
Jaenara: from jaes, deity, and ñages, dawn
Lucerys: from loktys, sailor, and sēter, spell
Maegelle, Maegon, Maegor, Maekar: from maege, prudent or practical, also the root for maegi
Monterys: from manda, kind or courteous
Naerys: from naena, multitude
Rhaegar: from rhēdegon, to be known, to have renown
Rhaelle, Rhaella, Rhae: from rāelagon, to keep or maintain
Rhaenys, Rhaena, Rhaenyra: from rhaenagon, to find
Saera, Shaera: from zāeres, crystal
Shaena: from saelie, third
Vaella, Vaegon: from vēzos, sun
Vaemond: from vēzos, sun, and mōris, end
Valarr, Valerion, Valaena: from valenka, male or masculine
Visenya, Viserys, Viserra: from vestriarzir, story
Based on my own headcanon words
Daena, Daenys, Daenara, Daenerys: from dēnas, lamp or lamplighter
Maelor: from maelagon, to wander
Matarys: from matarion, fountain
For notes on the gendering of Valyrian names:
Some names, namely Aemond, Vaemond, Gael, and Rhaelle, do not decline normally in High Valyrian from what I can tell, though if someone can tell me otherwise I will gladly listen. However, for now I am going to chalk these up as Westerosi influence, and gender the first two as terrestrial-gendered names, and the other two as aquatic gender. I am pulling the rest of this essay completely from my mind, so be warned!
Obviously, the four Valyrian genders (lunar, solar, aquatic, and terrestrial) don’t map exactly onto the male/female naming scheme, but it does seem that the lunar gender is exclusively for female names, though of course this has more to do with GRRM using English naming conventions, and I will also chalk this up to Andal influence as well. Terrestrial gendered names similarly seem masculine-leaning, though there is the notable exception of Alysanne, which I have in the past put down as “Alisān” when referring to her in High Valyrian.
Now, this may be overcomplicating things, but I would just really love it if the gendering of these names was significant- I am basing this a little bit on Chinese baby naming where the radicals that make up a kid’s name are treated superstitiously. When it comes to baby names, I lean more towards the idea that they reveal more about the parents than about the kid themselves, but Valyria also has access to dragon dreamers and prophecy, which does lend itself to the idea that the parents might use some vision of their child’s future to inform their name. Also, the further removed Valyrian speakers are away from the culture, this importance might fade away entirely in favor of what sounds good to the parent- there are only a few names from here that we know came from Valyria itself: Aenar, Daenys, Gaemon, and Jaenara.
Anyway, solar and lunar gendered terms are mostly reserved for humans, so I think gendered names here may center the meaning of the name around the character of the child itself. Solar gendered terms include names of occupations, so I think perhaps solar gendered names refer to what a parent might wish for what the child might do, or a great deed- so it may be a sign of ambition or dreams for a child. Lunar terms in turn might instead refer to traits, so what the child might be, so more like virtue names in English. So we might be able to relate this difference with the name root “Rhaen-”. In the name Rhaenys, the meaning could be interpreted as “finder,” while in Rhaena or Rhaenyra, it would be closer to “found.”
On the other hand, I think aquatic and terrestrial might refer to events that might happen in a child’s life- so this may refer to a prophetic knowledge of what is to come in the child's life. The genders themselves fit their names pretty closely: aquatic gender terms tend to refer to things related to liquids, and terrestrial gender terms tend to refer to things related to the earth. Aquatic gender I think would refer to a pivotal moment in a child’s life- not necessarily good or bad, but a moment that changes the course of a life. Sort of like the sea giving and taking away.
I think terrestrial gendered names might be sort of protective charms, like a shield against terrible events. So we might be able to relate this difference with the name root “Maeg-”.  In the names Maegor and Maekar, it would indicate “he will become prudent”, while in Maegon, it would indicate a “may he be prudent because he needs to be.” I think this also adds a new dimension to every single one of Jaehaerys’ sons having a terrestrial gendered name.
To make a full summary with a new name, I am going to be using the name root “Bael-”, which we have examples of three genders for. The one we don’t have, solar, I am going to invent, Baelys, might mean “helper.” In lunar gender, Baela, it might mean “helpful”. In aquatic gender, Baelor, it might mean “he will help/be helped and change his life”. In terrestrial gender, Baelon, it would mean “may he be helped when he needs it.”
So there you have it! My unnecessary but super fun headcanons about Valyrian baby names! Thanks for reading this essay.

His file was classified and his documents were blacked, only a few filler words could be seen. Rye was infamous in this line of work. Well, mostly under the name of Akai Shuichi, but the point stood regardless.
Access to his file was hard to get, but you didn't even need it (though you had gotten a quick glance at it before). You knew him very well already. Well enough, actually, to recognise certain mannerisms in a man that often appeared alongside your target. The first day you saw him, you spent your night researching a certain "Subaru Okiya". He was an attractive young man and his professors - while he did not attend all lectures (though they had assured you that this was very normal) - described him as kind, considerate and knowledgeable. You didn't doubt that, however, his grades where just a little too good for his attendance, his image a little bit too perfect for a mere university student barely to be fiund on campus.
Now, you were not one to slack off. So, after quenching your initial curiosity, you turned back to the task at hand. Acquiring a certain...something from the Mōri hausehold.
And that is how you got here, looking through a room with neatly stacked papers on an organised desk, a bed with rose-coloured sheets and plushies perched on it and lastly the karate uniform hung against the mirror of a wardrobe.
You only had a few minutes. You could basically see them rushing through the streets and chuckled at the thought. That detective boy was far more obvious than he thought.
You found the hard drive nestled into one of the plushies - one that had no doubt been won on a fair once. Carefully, as not to rip the fabric, you peeled out the object - just in time it seemed. You opened the window the moment the entrance gate was unlocked and landed on the ground as you heard them wrench open the bedroom door.
You could see him out of the corner of your eye, fighting his way through the masses of workworn employers on their way home, but you payed him no mind. Quickly, you turned to the left and hurried to get into the evening rush.
He managed to follow you for quite some time, you gave him that. It seemed he was known as talented and infamous for a reason.
But, so were you. After ten minutes he had lost your trail, however, you had already decided to let him see you again soon enough. Who would have guessed enrolling into University would be so enticing?

Do You Know This (Non-canon) Autistic Character?
Tumblr media
Evidence below the cut! (Also, happy belated birthday to the submitter!)
Submitter's Note: Shinichi and Conan are the same person (Shinichi being a 16/17-y/o teen who is shrunk to 6/7-y/o by a Fantastical Poison and forced to live as Conan), but I refer to them as one or the other depending on the situation.
Shinichi is hyperlexic as a child, being shown to read "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" before his first day of kindergarten. Later that day, he tries to impress his would-be classmate Ran Mōri by showing off his awesome deduction skills, but he ends up upsetting her by accidentally calling her a crybaby.
Shinichi/Conan has great observation and analytical skills, and has the entire Tokyo Metro train map memorized (among many other things he knows, which Conan passes off as stuff "Shinichi-nii-chan told him" or "watched on TV" to maintain his façade as a first-grader). He uses his vast knowledge and hyperfocus while solving cases, and will stop at nothing to bring the one truth to light.
When, as Conan, he snags himself a chance to go to London (where the Sherlock Holmes Museum is), he immediately accepts the offer without thinking of the consequences (e.g. Conan Edogawa technically doesn't exist, and he has to fly as Shinichi to the UK and back). But once at the Holmes Museum, Conan is excited to be in the setting of his beloved stories, stimming in the chair at the sitting-room.

Lost Girls: Lady Myōkyū
Tumblr media
The first wife of Mōri Motonari has fascinated readers, historians, romance story enjoyers and Mōri clan enthusiasts alike.
Though she is one of my favorite women of the time period. Her life is shrouded in obscurity aside from the fact that she was loved by her husband and children.
As how my ojisan would say, that Lady Myōkyū falls into the category of one of Japan's earliest evaporating people due to the fact that she hasn't been found

Tiny theory that has so many plot holes and possibly makes no sense cuz I'm bored:
We all know the theory of Elise getting her personality from Yosano, and her hair type from Dazai, right? No? Well now you do, so I wanted to add a little part of my own onto it.
Elise is designed to look like a western looking girl, right? Well, I have a feeling that it has something to do with Higuchi, or maybe Higuchi's mother.
My theory is: Mōri knew Higuchi's mother–who could've been potentially a foreigner–on a personal level, might have even loved her, but she was forced into marriage with the some rich man. There was no helping it, so he let her go with grace.
Higuchi's mom dies during child birth (she was giving birth to Higuchi's sister, not Higuchi herself), and her Dad gets assassinated way later, like by the time Higuchi is 12 or even a bit older. That should be concurrent with Mōri's rise to the boss position, when his position is slightly more stable. The guy was a neglectful alcoholic, and was only going to lead the family to ruin. The kids that looked so painfully similar to their mother were suffering, so Mōri wasn't above, or more accurately couldn't help but leave him to rot. He becomes Higuchi's, and her sister's benefactor, gives them a new surname to keep the assassins off their back, and visits sometimes with gifts and makes sure they have all the basic necessities that a kid should have, he even lets them go to school.
He keeps both of them away from the underworld for as long as he could in tribute to their late mother. He was heavily against having Higuchi recruited into the Mafia, but she was so heavily insisting on joining for a reason he cannot stop after she found out he was the boss (read: Akutagawa).
Tumblr media
He decided to make her hate the Mafia, to convince her to leave, even if it meant being hard on her. He was possibly trying to convince her, and those around her, that as long as she was a Mafioso, she'd be a target for assassination in an indirect, kind of “I never said that, they just jumped to that conclusion.” way. He was being the bad guy to make sure she was out of the Mafia. He was kind of indirectly convincing her into believing she wasn't suitable, or even useful for and to the Mafia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure Asagiri was still figuring out Mōri's character, but something that stuck with me is that Mōri might have a personal grudge against Akutagawa; he might've figured out that he was the reason Higuchi stayed in the Mafia, so he assumed that if Akutagawa was out of the picture in a way Higuchi could never save him, she'll have nothing left in the Mafia, and would decide to leave soon. This could be a secondary explanation, aside from the one we got in the manga, as to why he gave Akutagawa up so easily despite his worth to the Mafia, even going as far as to call him a 'liability'. However, Mōri didn't put Higuchi's determination into account, and Akutagawa ended up surviving.
The 'Mōri dislikes Akutagawa' theory could be debunked if someone brings up the drama CD, but like, pookie. Higuchi was going to take him to take care of his health somewhere either way, so I bet Mōri sent Chūya along with them to make sure that Higuchi doesn't have to be the one to bathe Akutagawa (inner protective father instincts are seeing the light of day, oh crap.). Also I guess Mōri eventually decided to leave Akutagawa to live out the rest of his days for Higuchi's sake, he was going to die anyway, and his reckless streak could serve to quicken that.
I feel like Mōri's treatment towards Higuchi in the manga definitely mellowed out later as Asagiri started to figure Mōri out better, and you can even see Higuchi being one of the first to come to his aid in the cannibalism arc. He would only call someone he trusted enough to see him in such a vulnerable position.
Tumblr media
Along with that, just look at how freaking worried she is for him, if my insensible theory has any credibility, she knew this guy as the first decent father figure in her life, she definitely has feelings of attachment towards Mōri.
Tumblr media
In wan, their shenanigans are so family coded. In her Mayoi beach card, Mori and Elise were standing behind her (they look like when your extended family turns up for events instead of your actual parents) while she was playing beach volleyball; with the way he looked all he had left was to wear "I'm not a stepdad, I'm the DAD THAT STEPPED UP" shirt istg. Chūya is there to make sure everyone retains their skin's health (except him). He looks happy though so it's alright, a tan would look good on him. Come to think of it, I feel like Chūya is always around whenever Higuchi is there, especially in wan... Could it be that Mōri instructed him to keep a closer eye on Higuchi...? To ensure her safety like some sort of bodyguard (when ironically she is the one who is supposed to be Akutagawa's bodyguard)...? Yk what I should probably stop before I come up with more conspiracy theories. At this rate I will be arrested for brain rotting too hard.

Bonus: Elise drew this, and Higuchi looks the prettiest out of them all, and the only one actually smiling, which could reflect just how much Mōri cares about her deep down. If this theory has any flicker of credibility, then beast would be a wormwhole to try and explore DJDJJDJ.

Hikaru no Go stage play coming!
Felt like I needed to inform tumblr's VIBRANT Hikaru no Go fandom that a stage play will be performed in Ikebukuro this year (2024) July 5-14!
"This year's 21st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday that Takeshi Obata and Yumi Hotta's Hikaru no Go manga will receive a stage play adaptation in Ikebukuro in July titled Uta Emaki "Hikaru no Go" Jyo no Itte (Song Picture Scroll "Hikaru no Go": The First Move). [...] Nobuhiro Mōri will direct, script, and write the lyrics for the music in the show. Shinnosuke Motoyama will choreograph and stage the show. Shunsuke Wada will compose the music, and Mitsuhiro Akiyama will be in charge of art. The show will run at the Sunshine Theater from July 5-14."
