The first time the two of you run into her, Zayne’s body goes rigid. You’re on your way to lunch at a noodle restaurant he scoped out a few weeks prior after developing a feel for your tastes. She’s dressed in her hunter uniform, which means she’s working another weekend shift, against her doctor’s orders. He wonders how much sleep she’s getting, and if she’s eating a full three meals.

Zayne’s mind runs from him as he stares at her, losing track of what’s happening in his body, forgetting who’s tucked up against his side. He doesn’t even realize how tightly he’s begun to grip your hand until you give his a gentle, questioning squeeze. The pressure and warmth of your fingers should ground him, but it’s been a while since he’s seen her outside the office. Thoughts of her and her wellbeing form out of habit, one he continues to struggle to break.

If you were less observant, perhaps he could explain away his sudden change in demeanor, but Zayne has always liked his women knife sharp. Words have failed him in the past. The sentences he strings together are always too curt, too short, too clinical to carry a conversation or make his true feelings known. One must look not only at what he has said, but at what his actions convey if they want to understand him.

(He does not tell her that he missed her, only that he checked the weather where she stayed.)

You’re fluent in latent content—it’s one of the many things he likes about you—which is how he knows you don’t miss the way his eyes flick to her. Or that he can’t seem to peel them away. You frown, but say nothing, which makes him feel like a fucking jackass. She doesn’t want him. Not in this life. And, he’s risking whatever he has with you by staring at her, at the woman who left him, at the woman who never stays.

You wait until you’re back at his place to ask about her. Your tone is soft, curious, but your eyes are unable to meet his. They keep looking over his shoulder or at his feet.

“Who is she?” you want to know, only he doesn’t know how to answer that. He doesn’t know how he could possibly begin to explain to you that he’s known for her lifetimes without sounding like some delusional, lovesick pup still hung up on his ex.

“A wraith,” he tells you since that’s as close to the truth as he can get. “She’s someone from my past.”

You hum, then add, “I figured. It looked like you saw a ghost when we crossed paths with her.”

Zayne wishes you were angry—he feels better equipped for that—but you just sound sad.  It makes his heart feel unusually heavy. It aches, like it may drop out from behind his ribs and leave a dark cavity in his chest.

“About your ex,” he starts, though he isn’t quite sure where he’s going with this. The night you first met, you cried to Zayne about them, but they haven’t come up since.

“Would you believe me if I told you they were a hunter too?”

Zayne doesn’t miss how you speak of them in the past tense.

“Were?” he asks.

You look at him finally, and there is pain in your eyes; they glisten with something all too familiar to him. “They died,” you say, voice thick with grief, “protecting the city from Wanders.”

This, at least, is something Zayne understands. He meets grief life after life, two old, begrudging friends.

“You never told me,” he says.

You shrug, “Most people don’t like to talk about death.”

“I’m not most people.”

“No,” you agree, “you’re not.”

Zayne thinks of the jasmine you brought him your first night over. True to your word, you help him dry the plant so he can keep it forever. He thinks of what you told him that night, when he nearly collapsed at the sight of the taunting white petals. You told him what humans perceive as death is just energy changing form. Perhaps that belief formed in the aftermath of your exes passing.

“Do you believe in past lives?” he asks.

Your brows knit together as you give the question some thought.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” you eventually reply. “If nothing is ever added or subtracted from the universe, an argument could be made in its favor. Why do you ask? Is she from one of yours?”

“She is,” he tells you. “She’s from quite a few.”

“Oh,” you reply as you look away from him. Your frown deepens, and Zayne hates that there’s nothing he can do to stop it. “I think this might be my first life. My first human one anyway. I was probably a bird before this. A flighty one like an arcticyon or something.”

Sometimes, Zayne can’t believe you’re real.

“It’s a privilege to have met you here, then,” he tells you. “And, I’ll look forward to meeting you again.”

You flash him a small smile, “You think you’ll find me in the next one?”

He returns the fond look you give him, “I will certainly try.”

Another Zosan AU

Soulmate AU where all the pet names your Soulmate will call you are written on your skin.

Zoro just has a bunch of names that all must relate to his hair which he finds weird. Kuina thinks it’s hilarious and teases him about it. Always ruffles his hair which in turn makes him challenge her to a match every time.

After her death he gets a bit self conscious about his hair. He also starts ruffling his own hair as a coping mechanism.

Sanji meanwhile grows up with “twirly brows” “curly eyebrows” “curls” on his skin and he’s upset cause why do the names all have to do with the one thing that he shares with all his siblings?

Who, mind you, don’t have soulmates due to the genetic experimentation.

Will he never stick out? Will he always be part of the package. So insignificant that even his soulmate won’t be able to tell him apart from his brothers?

What he can’t see is the nickname “cook” which is written in the middle of his back.

Then his mother dies and sanjis locked away. Loosing hope of ever meeting his soulmate even starting to think that maybe the names weren’t supposed to be his since there is nothing indicating that it could only be him. Maybe the experiments messed it up.

I've started to rewatch old shows out of chronological episode order. It's really takes me back to wandering into the tv room and watching whatever is on at the moment. Do I know who these people are? Maybe, not really. Oh, they're the main characters? Huh. Neat! OoOoh! That's a funny bit, I wonder if it's reoccurring!

Anyway it's made old comfort shows more interesting.

GUYS I printed a glow in the dark and rainbow gradient flexi spino and a few flush objects along side it, and I love how they turned out!! I’m especially surprised that the tiger is still fully articulate as such a small size! It’s only about 3 inches tall to give you perspective

Someone just asked me how to annotate GCSE art books and I got a 9 in mine when I did it, so I thought I'd make a post about it :)

All art:

1: How does it link to your theme? Why did you choose this subject/photo/artist? This one is so important because it creates cohesion throughout the whole project. It feels so dumb to do but trust me you just have to spell it out. Be as specific as you can to each piece!

Example: I am doing the theme "Icons" so I did a study of the Mona Lisa, because she is arguably the most iconic and famous art piece in the world.

Example 2: I am doing the theme "Angles" so I chose to do a study of this picture of a statue, because the light creates dramatic shadows and highlights the angles of the face.

2: What media did you choose and why? Talk about colours (bright/dull)/texture (smooth/rough (especially for 3D art))/detail/control (or lack thereof)/etc.

Example: I used acrylic because it very bright and pigmented, and I could get more control for fine details than I could with watercolours.

3: Did you have any difficulties when making this piece? How did you overcome them? Was this piece successful? I'll admit this one isn't as important. The point of the question isn't so much about specifically problems you had, but rather to just get you talking about the process of making the piece and anything notable that happened.

Example: This piece has a lot of extremely light and dark areas, so I highlighted them with a different colour on the original picture so that I could see them better.

Example 2: I think that the highlights looked a bit cartoonish to start, so I made them more creme so that they were more subtle.

Ngl, I would love to see a Lego video game adaptation of all the Disney Princess movies, although I have zero idea how the devs at Lego could make that work properly. If not that, then at least an adaptation of the Renaissance movies or even some of the Post-Renaissance/Experimental and Revival ones. A combo of the three eras, perhaps? Hi welcome to me talking about my guys.

(I'll preface this by saying, in my oc headworld (pippaf), the dominant species are called "creatures" and all creatures can shift at will between fragile (humanoid) and primal (animal forms), the primal forms seen herer.)

The blue one is my favorite, their name is Amek (21, they/he). And by favorite i mean i emotionally torture them the most <3. Amek's species are called Storm Spirits, they are shapeshifters, but think of them more like dittos. they can't significantly change their color, eye-shape, or markings. they can voice/sound mimic tho! Storm spirits typically have weather magic. Storm spirits are a rare species, nearly hunted to extinction due to prejudice and their association with the god of chaos, Okkjuk. Amek's full name is actually Ameokk, after getting "adopted" by September, she gave him the nickname Amek, not wanting to unsettled others with the Okkjuk themed name. Amek is a long way from his original home, but he wouldn't consider it home anymore, even if he wanted to. I realized

I realized i haven't spoken of their personality at all. Amek is an upbeat goofy silly guy, he is a charmer and loves entertaining a crowd. He is very good at acting, his job requires him to.

the black cat is August (19, he). Amek is August's adopted brother. He is a prince but his mom (september) hates him bc she's ableist but also she sucks in general. August likes art and painting, and crowds make him very nervous, having been discouraged from going outside for much of his childhood. He also loves loves books, especially history and romance.

the picture on the left of him sitting he's 16 actually, bc i drew his proportions wrong. and all the pics where he has the torn ear and eyescar he's around 22. It's from an assassination attempt :- ). Oh yeah August's species r called spinecats. They're like cats but what if spines and posable tails and maybe some bug-like traits.

The doggy looking thang is Hyun (17. she/he). She is rabid and unhinged but probably the sweetest of my ocs, next to August. Like a rough kind of sweetness. His species is called Keyhorn, because keyhorns store their magic in their horn (magic energy is called 'keyaa'). As you can see, Hyun's horn was broken by a meaner :-( , this guy is called chrrris and he sucks. Hyun's magic is permanently weakened by this, but he is an optimistic bugger, don't worry.

Hyun was raised by these wild animals (not creatures) called night yips (imagine a wolf if it was as smart as a parrot and upright like a gorrila and the muzzle of a sawfish and rabbit ears). She also masqueraded as a local god so that she would get offerings from the local village. Then she lived in a cave for a bit. Don't worry about it.

Hiii, I was just wandering if you wouldn’t mind blabbing about the symbolism and stuff behind some of your design choices with the horse men that you might not have mentioned. Like with pestilence and death specifically I feel like there’s a lot of symbolism I’m picking up on without fully understanding. Like with Death’s sickle, both a homage to the classic scythe and a nod to the “reaping/harvesting” of souls. And with pestilence I feel like there’s something that I’m skirting around without grasping. The multiple legs strike me as a deliberate similarity to insects, and if I’m right I think that the rider is bound in a body bag type deal, similar to how disease and pestilence is so often both spread through the improper disposal of body’s, and how wide spread pestilence leads to mass graves filled with disease and the horrible anonymity that comes with being just one face in a pit of hundreds etc? All of this is, ofc, to say that I’ve adored your series of the horsemen so far and would go absolutely rabid for some insight on some of your design choices<3

My horsemen of the apocalypse! I will add the original commentary and some extras, less about the symbolism and more about what brought me to design them the way I did.

The symbolism is for you to chose, there is no wrong answer.

WAR

I can't bring myself to represent war with a cool knight. It's horror. War is a bound child crowned with shrapnel, tied to a wounded horse that is being pulled forward by unseen people.

I've read a handful of books regarding war. A lost quote said that it should be shown as horror, it should make generals vomit, it should make you sick. I haven't seen war but my family has.

It was the first horseman I've designed, and it was in my sketchbook for months (maybe over a year, maybe even more) before I had the courage to draw it. I was really scared about how people would react to a mutilated child.

FAMINE

Someone who lived thro a famine shared that their head was only occupied with thoughts of food. Famine consumes your mind. All animals were eaten. Neighbors gave their pets away cuz they couldn't do it themselves. People walked around town as if in a dazed dream, slowly

PESTILENCE

Based on the notes of a doctor who said the most frightening thing about viral disease was how it didn’t frighten. People didn’t know or didn't care. They lived and spread until it was too late and they became another name on the record

The clothing being made out of shredding plastic is no coincidence; pollution is a form of pestilence too

Recommended reading: Notes from a Countryside Doctor - Mikhail Bulgakov. Roughly translated quote below;

''Ah, I verified that here syphilis was frightening precisely because it did not frighten. That was why I evoked that woman.* I remembered her with a kind of affectionate respect: because she had been afraid. But she was the only one!''

*Early in the chapter, doctor mentions a woman that appeared in the clinic with a letter from her soldier husband, where he wrote that he had syphilis and told her she should go to the doctor too.

DEATH

“Death is the fairest thing in the world. No one's ever gotten out of it. The earth takes everyone - the kind, the cruel, the sinners. Aside from that, there's no fairness on earth.”

Death is the only horseman that doesn’t need to mount their horse; they will reach everyone eventually. Who is the saddle for then? Open ended question because this one you have to figure out personally

Many people pointed out how the horse is a Clydesdale. Good eyes! I purposefully asked a friend to guide me towards what type of horses are the sturdiest and most-friendly looking. I drew the horse grazing. It's not injured, it doesn't gallop. It's grazing peacefully because life moves on.

This is the only design that had a painting serve as a base - The Reaper, by Alexey Venetsianov. Not much or nothing at all is written about, I saw it in a book. It is a literal reaper but it haunted me, as if it's portraying more than a person.

The choice to make it a woman was due to a book about a crematory (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - Caitlin Doughty) that connected women to death because everyone born is bound to die.

Ahhh, I don't want to give it all away. It's fun to figure things out. About them all. From the enviroment, to the movement, to the horses themselves. Many people even mentioned details that I did not notice and didn't add purposefully that were so inspired and amazing. I truly mean that the interpretations of the public enrich the works even more than my own words. And it's an honor to share that work with everyone.
