Fight for the Future - LGBTQ+
Pride Month is here, and this year we’re drawing a line in the sand with our so-called “allies” in Washington, state legislatures, and civil society.
Every year, lawmakers and organizations don rainbow avatars, post hand-waving platitudes, and show up to our Pride marches as symbolic gestures of solidarity. As queer and trans people face unrelenting attacks from the Trump administration1, it’s time to tell them that the only way to support the LGBTQ community is with action—not just showing up for photo-ops.
That’s why we’re sending a letter demanding that lawmakers and civil society shut down three kinds of dangerous censorship bills, all of which promise to give Trump and his allies more power to target our communities and eviscerate our rights to free speech online.
This is an email specifically for our queer friends—we’re doing a letter from the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re hoping you’ll sign.
And if you aren’t queer, please forward this campaign to your LGBTQ friends and family!

As I write this, Congress is advancing the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)2, a misleadingly-named bill that anti-LGBTQ organizations have admitted they will use to censor content that promotes LGBTQ “ideology”—which is MAGA-speak for anything acknowledging the fact that we exist.
Dozens of states are also proposing Age Verification bills3, which would require people to submit to invasive ID checks to access websites that states decide might be “harmful to minors,” including sites hosting LGBTQ health information and online communities.
Finally, with a bill sunsetting Section 230—aka the “Internet’s First Amendment”4—online platforms would lose the legal protection that stops the government from punishing them for hosting LGBTQ user content—meaning companies would start “de-wokifying” sites like YouTube and Facebook to remove anything the government doesn’t like.
Some members of Congress claim these bills are necessary to protect children and reign in Big Tech, but the truth is they would be weaponized against LGBTQ people at a time when our rights are being threatened from every direction. The bills’ supporters include groups like the Heritage Foundation, which have explicitly admitted5 that they intend to use these laws to remove queer and trans content online.
The ask is simple: help us shut down these bills, or you can’t sit with us.6
We’re done with fake allyship. We’re done with politicians who stand by while Trump and his cronies get even more tools to surveil and crush the most vulnerable members of our community.
Click here to read and sign our letter, and help us send a clear message to members of the political class: if you’re going to support these dangerous bills, you are not welcome at Pride.
Add Your Name
Happy fucking pride!

🗣️Some good news!

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a birth control pill to be sold without a prescription for the first time in the United States, a milestone that could significantly expand access to contraception.
The medication, called Opill, will become the most effective birth control method available over the counter — more effective at preventing pregnancy than condoms, spermicides and other nonprescription methods. Experts in reproductive health said its availability could be especially useful for young women, teenagers and those who have difficulty dealing with the time, costs or logistical hurdles involved in visiting a doctor to obtain a prescription.
The pill’s manufacturer, Perrigo Company, based in Dublin, said Opill would most likely become available from stores and online retailers in the United States in early 2024.
The company did not say how much the medication would cost — a key question that will help determine how many people will use the pill — but Frédérique Welgryn, Perrigo’s global vice president for women’s health, said in a statement that the company was committed to making the pill “accessible and affordable to women and people of all ages.” Ms. Welgryn has also said the company would have a consumer assistance program to provide the pill at no cost to some women.

dedication | this fic is dedicated to my angel my bby my sweetie pie ms. @brandycranby, ily my fellow piss enthusiast <33
an | absolutely no one asked for this but. here are my favorite soft daddies acting out my deepest darkest fantasy with sweet little reader, i have been dying to write this smutty trio for soooo long (this is a similar matchup/dynamic to daddy!ari, caregiver!jakey, and wren in egem) and at this point fuck it, here you all go. hope this'll help you understand why i'm down so fucking bad for these guys.

"No Daddy— please!" You can't tell who your words are directed at as you writhe weakly against Ari's strong set of arms as they hold you firmly with your back against his chest. As much as you struggle, there's no getting out for you as he restrains you on his lap.
"Easy, baby. Don't make this harder than it needs to be," the brown-haired man hums, managing to hold you securely against him with just a single arm wrapped around your waist. "Quit fighting us, honey. C'mon, be a good girl."
"Oh sweetie," your other daddy murmurs as he sits in front of you. Jake's expression is much softer than his partner's, his gaze full of concern and sympathy as he reaches out and strokes your cheek. "Don't cry, pretty girl. We're gonna take such good care of you, right Ari?" he checks in with the larger man who's guiding your legs apart, holding them open with his own.
"Nooo!" you whine as your flimsy little tennis skirt is flipped up and out of the way. Jake takes a gentle hand and runs his fingers up and down your clothed pussy, nodding expectingly as a dark wet patch soon appears.
"Our poor little baby, she knows what's coming," Ari murmurs against your ear as he reaches his free hand down to join Jake's. "Seems like she's getting excited, Jake. What do you think?"
"Think you must be right," Jake agrees as he reaches down, effortlessly ripping the thin strip of fabric covering your burning heat in half. "There," he coos, using both hands to spread you out nice and wide. "Go ahead," he nods to Ari, "let's help our little girl go potty, hmm? Since she can't seem to know when she needs to, herself."
Ari lets out a low, grumbly hum in agreement as his expert fingers find your pool of juices, dragging up some of your slick to hone in on your little bundle of nerves. "There," he smiles as you jerk against both of the men's ministrations. "Keep holding her open for me, Jake. Just like that, shouldn't be long..."
The tips of his fingers burn against your throbbing button as big tears roll down your cheeks. "Don't cry, sweetheart. You asked for this, remember? How many times did we ask if you had to go before we left?" the sterner man demands. Jake watches with his brow raised, thankful that Ari is willing to be firm with you when needed.
"A-... a-... a-a lot, Daddy," you stammer apologetically.
"Mhmm," Ari nods as Jake repositions his hands, giving the man behind you the best possible access to your aching clit, and the best possible view of your soaking cunt to himself. "And only ten minutes into the drive, we had to turn right back around, because someone started crying about having to go potty. Is that right, angel?" he continues his cruel lecturing. You nod, groaning and whimpering as a familiar tightness begins building somewhere deep in your core. "So this is what you get, princess. You know the rules. Naughty little girls who don't go potty when they're supposed to need to be punished."
"That's right," Jake coos regretfully as he shifts to hold the hood of your clit back with one hand, using the other to gently begin prodding at your tiny rosebud as your wetness drips down between your spread cheeks. "This is just to help you learn, sweet thing. Now, are you gonna be a good girl for us, hm? Be a good girl for your daddies, give them what they want?"
"I don't think she has much of a choice," Ari chuckles as he feels your breaths deepening against him. "Look at her, poor little thing. Her tummy's so full, I bet if we just..." You let out a startled squeak as he moves his arm down to press his muscular forearm right against your aching bladder.
"Nooo Daddy! Please, s-stop!" you howl, but Ari only kisses the side of your head as he rubs your clit in faster, tighter circles, watching over your shoulder as Jake presses a single finger into your tight little bottom.
"C'mon cutie, don't fight us," Jake smiles reassuringly as he gently works his digit against your sensitive inner walls, the burning sensation the movement creates nearly unbearable. "Be good and cum for your daddies. What do you think, Ari? Looks like she's almost there."
"Just a little more, right there," Ari sings as he rolls your hardened clit between his fingers, his sadistic grin growing as he sees you nearing the end of your rope. "There it is. Now cum for us, little girl," his voice darkens. At his words, you snap, your back arching off of Ari's chest as you're forced to release against the cruel hands of your torturers. "There you go, baby. Keep cumming. Fuck, this bitch is really making a mess," he laughs.
"There, that's it," Jake croons after him, both of the men completely mesmerized by the sight of you pissing yourself and orgasming at the same time. "Poor baby girl, was holding in sooo much in that sweet little tummy of hers. It just keeps coming and coming, huh?"
"Sure does," Ari agrees as your contractions finally begin to die down, leaving you a whimpering, breathless mess as you lie limply against your daddy out of pure exhaustion. Once the last of the spasming ceases, Ari brings his hand up to brush your hair back from your face, loosening his arm around you to take pressure off your emptied bladder. "Good girl," he soothes, kissing you again against your temple.
You wince as Jake removes his finger from you, using his other hand to reach up and rub your poor little tummy under your shirt. "Easy, cutie. You're okay; you did it, sweetie! You were so good, such a good girl for your daddies."
"Such a brave girl," Ari agrees, sharing a smile and loving glance with Jake. "She's getting better at it each time. Less fighting and tears, she knows what's best. Don't you, baby?" You nod obediently, earning a pleased hum of approval from both of the men.
"Now let's go get you cleaned off, huh sweetheart?" Jake suggests as Ari slowly helps you to your feet. Your legs tremble beneath you as you look down at the puddle on the floor. "Don't worry about that, baby. We'll get it cleaned up. I think your clothes might need a run in the wash, though. What do you say?"

At Holloway School for Young Women, Professor Anita Davis knew how to keep her students’ attention during class. She also paid close attention to which of her students that day was the most “fidgety” reacting to her appearance.
Today, it seemed that Elizabeth Wilson was certainly a bit over-stimulated. It being the last class of the day, Elizabeth would be spending some time after class with Anita.
During their private session Anita was happy to open her blouse for Elizabeth and encourage her to deal with her fidgetiness. Given that approval, Elizabeth pushed up her skirt, pulled her panties aside and began rubbing her aroused pussy. Anita carressed and pinched her breasts, further exciting Elizabeth.
Anita smiled at Elizabeth’s state of horniness. As it became obvious Elizabeth was nearing her climax, Anita walked around her desk and knelt in front of her. She looked up and smiled.
“Very good. So lovely.”
And Anita dove in. Elizabeth instinctively spread herself open, giving Anita’s tongue full access. She buried her tongue deep inside Elizabeth, giving herself a face full of Elizabeth’s smell and taste. It was wonderful.
Then, slow licks up and down the lentlgth of Elizabth’a lips, and on each up stroke, finishing with heavy teasing of her clit. Elizabeth was going crazy from this attention. Anita’s focus then centered on producing the orgasm Elizabeth so desperately needed. It came along quickly once Anita’s expert tongue danced on her button with quick short licks.
Anita cupped Elizabeth’s buns as she came, pulling her closer to fully drench her face in wetness. And an aroma that would linger for hours. As Anita came down from her high, Anita disengaged, stood up and buttoned her blouse.
“Well, Elizabeth, I think I should like to see a handwritten paper from you. One thousand words on what you learned today. On my desk tomorrow morning.”
Elizabaeth pulled herself together and stood to leave.
“Yes, Ms. Davis, thank you.”
Off she went to write her paper. One that Anita would add to her collection of similar papers from other students. She did enjoy life at Holloway.

Australia enough already. This is the fourth story from Down Under in a week.
By Genevieve Gluck August 29, 2024
A high-risk and serial sex offender who preys on children has been accused of running a child abuse ring from within a male prison in New South Wales. Media reports have referred to Dean Angus Bell, 31, as “female” on the basis that he began claiming to be transgender behind bars and adopted the name “Jessica Isabelle Rose.”
On August 27, Bell was arrested at Junee Correctional Facility following a four-month investigation into the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material among fellow inmates. He has been charged with eight counts of producing child abuse material, eight counts of disseminating child abuse material, and knowingly or recklessly directing a criminal group.
As reported by Daily Mail Australia, Bell referred to himself as the “Leader of the Pack,” with the “pack” involving a group of male inmates accused of sharing letters with each other which detailed graphic descriptions of first-hand experiences of sexually abusing children, along with plans to commit additional rapes upon release. NSW Police stated that murder was mentioned in one of the letters.
Bell, currently incarcerated for breaching an extended supervision order by accessing child sexual abuse material, is said to have run the group from his prison cell. He appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Tuesday accused of running the child abuse ring and will return to court in October.

But despite his lengthy record of sexually abusing children, Daily Mail Australia referred to Bell as a “notorious female pedophile” and “Ms. Rose” in their recent report – even though five years ago, a now-deleted Daily Mail article about Bell referred to him as a male.
Bell, who is officially classified as a high-risk sex offender, has been in and out of jail since the age of 18. In 2013, at the age of 20, he was found to have been using social media to groom a 13 year-old boy for sexual abuse.
In September of 2014, Bell contacted a 14-year-old girl, who he attempted to have convince her friend, another 13-year-old boy, to perform sex acts on him in exchange for $100, cigarettes, and drugs. Additionally, Bell was found in possession of child sexual abuse material, and had been taking photos of children in public.
Reduxx also discovered an X account from that period which appears to have belonged to Bell and uses a childhood photo of himself as a profile picture. Posts made to the account show his obsession with Justin Bieber, and Bell inviting followers to participate in video chats with him.

The child sexual predator was then sent back to prison for a minimum of two years and was released on June 19, 2017, but within hours, was discovered to have again tried to establish contact with the same 13 year-old boy. In a text message sent to the boy’s friend, he described being “depressed” at not being able to see the child, and his contact sent him the boy’s phone number. The incident was reported to police by the boy’s mother after she found a text message Bell sent to her son.
Once again, Bell was sent back to jail for 13 months, and scheduled for release in July of 2018.
A risk assessment report on Bell’s behavior conducted by expert psychologists at the time concluded, “Compared to other adult male sex offenders, Bell’s score is in the 99th percentile,” labeling him a high-risk sex offender.
“It is concerning that, despite having spent 21 months in custody for interactions with persons under the age of 18, one of Bell’s first actions after release from custody was to ‘allegedly’ attempt to contact his victim,” the report read.
Disturbingly, the next year, Bell was found to be living next to a day care center, primary school and high school, prompting concerned residents to organize a petition to have him removed from the area. The petition received nearly 30,000 signatures.
Bell is not the first sadistic Australian pedophile to be referred to as a “female” by media, obfuscating his birth sex and misleading readers.
As previously reported by Reduxx, another Aussie predator who was found to be facilitating child sexual abuse while behind bars was similarly treated as a “woman” by both courts and the press.
Robert Gordon Cummins was in custody on child sex offenses at Perth’s maximum-security Casuarina Prison when he devised a scheme to establish a child sex trafficking ring in Thailand upon his release. Along with two other inmates, Cummins schemed to set up a doll-making business called “Little Angels” as a cover, with the intention of employing low-income women from rural areas in order to gain access to their children.
After he was released on parole in 2008, Cummins became the “pipeline” for carrying out the plan, and began researching properties for sale and information about false passports while contacting Thai mothers whose children were being considered for potential abuse. Cummins also sent financial contributions to the impoverished women to build up their trust.
In exchange for pleading guilty, testifying in court, and confessing to the plan, Cummins was handed a reduced sentence of two years and seven months. He was released the day after the trial ended in September 2012, but would go on to be convicted of further sex crimes in later years.

I have a guest on the blog today. She introduces herself in this video, and I've also given her temporary access to the blog in case any of you would like to ask her questions. I've asked her to format her posts with red text to better differentiate from my own. You can also contact her directly at @lorekeeper-z.
The camera focuses on a young woman with dark hair, olive skin, and reddish eyes, who is looking directly at the camera and grinning widely. She's dressed in a tattered pale cloak over practical black clothing. Her posture is relaxed. She is standing in a field of green grass, dotted with the crumbling remains of stone structures, and the sun is shining, but there are dark clouds on the horizon, like a storm is rolling in. The wind ruffles the woman's hair. After a moment, Maxie speaks. His voice is deep and soft, and the wind makes the video's audio a bit fuzzy.
MAXIE: Would you mind introducing yourself?
When the woman speaks, her tone is bright, as if she's enjoying herself.
ZINNIA: Sure. My name's Zinnia Yamaki, and I'm a Draconid Lorekeeper--which makes me an expert on pretty much everything mythological here in Hoenn. I'm also very well acquainted with the oral history of the Draconid people, especially their time in Hoenn after they crossed the Mirage Sea. [Her tone turns mischievous.] And what about you, Mr Archivist? Aren't you going to introduce yourself?
MAXIE: They already know me.
ZINNIA: Oh come on, play along.
From behind the camera, Maxie sighs as Zinnia's smile grows wider. He turns the camera to face himself. He's wearing dark sunglasses and his hair is in a ponytail.
MAXIE: I'm Maxie Asher, archivist and historian, and today Ms Yamaki and I are going to be showing off a little bit of Draconid and Hoennic history.
ZINNIA: Oh come on, don't call me that.
MAXIE: [His lips purse and he visibly restrains himself from sighing again.] Today Zinnia and I are going to be showing off a little bit of Draconid and Hoennic history.
ZINNIA: That's better. Aren't you going to tell them how we met?
MAXIE: No.
[End video ID.]

News of the Day 4/22/25: CECOT
Paywall be gone.
This is the mega-prison in El Salvador where Trump & Co. are sending the Venezuelans we're claiming are Tren de Aragua gang members. We're not actually vetting that here or in El Salvador, and given how sketchy some of the evidence turns out to be when released, that's truly unnerving. Doubly so when you consider how Trump & Co. are insisting they can't get people back even if they get it wrong, and paying for all this on our dime. All that's more than enough.
I hadn't stopped to consider what life in the jail was actually like, though. I found the details a little disturbing, so I'll leave you all to click through if you want to read more. But I went into this thinking labelling CECOT as a kind of gulag was overselling it; based on the little I've read it's not.
More details about the alleged TdA inmates, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, and immigration-related shenanigans generally, behind the cut.

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday announced new steps to support access to abortion, highlighting an issue that has galvanized voters in the year since the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade.
Ms. Harris will travel to Wisconsin on Monday morning as she begins a national tour focused on preserving access to reproductive health care, as Mr. Biden brings together a task force on reproductive health care in Washington.
Both events are designed to call attention to the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that established a constitutional right to abortion, and to announce new steps that Mr. Biden’s administration has taken to help Americans get contraceptives and abortions under an emergency care law.
“Even as Americans — from Ohio to Kentucky to Michigan to Kansas to California — have resoundingly rejected attempts to limit reproductive freedom, Republican elected officials continue to push for a national ban and devastating new restrictions across the country,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “On this day and every day, Vice President Harris and I are fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom.”
In Washington, the Department of Health and Human Services will issue guidance for patients experiencing pregnancy-related emergencies to better understand their rights to care under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, known as EMTALA.
The law requires hospital emergency rooms to provide medically necessary care, including abortions, in urgent circumstances. The department will also provide “training materials for health care providers and establish a dedicated team of experts” to support hospitals around the country, according to a fact sheet distributed by the administration.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted an article on how the fundamentalist movement, in the past, committed acts of fraud disguised as science. I talked about how they’d done so for decades, I talked about their intent and their methodologies, and how they have been adopted over time by the right in general.
I then applied this to the Cass Report, the “report” used by the Tory government in Britain to ban most forms of trans medical care and by American rightists to both deny health care and pass laws against trans people. I showed how exactly the same recategorisation and data selection methods were used to de-rate almost every study on youth gender transition, so that they could create a report which claimed there were “few to no high quality” studies on the matter.
I said I didn’t know for sure this was the same sort of ill intent, or that they happened to be doing the same thing as fundamentalists and rightist have been doing for the last many decades. I couldn’t prove that’s what they were doing, I could just demonstrate that it looked awfully, awfully similar, as in, exactly the same.
Whelp, looks like we can prove that ill intent now.
The Cass Report describes Dr. Cass as “a senior clinician with no prior involvement or fixed views in this area.”
This is a lie.
Not only had she met with American politician Ron DeSantis to aid his efforts to ban gender transition, turns out she was recommending the so-called “gender critical” hate screed, Irreversible Damage, which compares gender transition to the Holocaust.
She also, turns out, included studies to argue against trans health care that are not only outdated and fail to meet her own theoretical standards, but which have been out-and-out discredited.
Again: it all comes down to picking the data you want to get the result you want, and that’s exactly what she and her team did.
Talking of the team, some of the other people appointed to work with her on the report were also active in anti-trans/anti-queer politics, including lobbying against ending “conversion therapy” and helping Republicans with bans on trans health care, serving as “expert witnesses” in favour. Tories have now admitted the group was salted with “gender critical” activists specifically to “expedite” the work, while trans people were explicitly excluded.
Erin in the Morning has all the details, as do Drs. Max Davie and Lorna Hobbs in a report they have kindly also placed in Google Docs for better public accessibility.
The Cass Report is a rightist political document disguised as a scientific work, with better cover than, say, the work of Dr. Paul Cameron, but with no better scientific validity or intent. If you don’t know who Cameron is, count yourself lucky. Or read my M&Ms post, the same one I linked above. Either will do.
This was a hatchet job and a work of hatred used to both condemn and deny medical care to people who desperately need it, and it is yet another lie that must be exposed, and another fraud about which people should know.
It is, once again, yet another goddamn lie of the right.
87 days remain.

As much as a little nine-year-old girl can in a place like Auradon, Ao Tianyun has never cared about her looks one way or the other. She's always been secure in the fact that her true humanoid form is stunningly beautiful--so much so that she's begun to find it downright boring and prefers to shift into monstrous forms instead. Despite the regular outcries from both adults and peers that she would never find her Happily Ever After if she looked like that, there was no limit to the depths of creativity she unleashed in molding her shape to be everyone's worst nightmare--no limit to the number of eyes, the size of the horns, or the strange textures of skin ranging from glass-sharp scales to mucus ooze that she would employ to make herself as delightfully freakish as possible...
Until now.
It all started with a burst of flaming frustration in her chest, the kind that caused her hair to set on fire like her father Ne Zha. She'd come home from a long day at school during which the other kids had been so, so cruel as per usual about her chosen form that day--but one child's barbed remark in particular had really gotten under her skin. Why throw away what your parents gave you? Appearance-wise, that is. Aren't you tired of shaming them? he'd said. Shaming them. Shaming them! When they had only ever supported her to take whatever form had made her happy!
What my parents taught me was to find my own path! she had screamed back as her hair ignited and she seized that insolent little shit by the collar. THIS IS MY PATH!!
The kid who'd said that--as well as the rest who were tormenting her--had all run away at the sight of that. One bright side to the fact that everyone in Auradon was so appearance-obsessed was that many felt incredibly intimidated by what they perceived to be ugly, and so of course being screamed at by a flame-haired, green-skinned ogre would cause those weak-minded children to scatter. She came home that day with the aura of her father's flame surrounding her, pissed beyond belief with a declaration much like her parents' that only she gets to choose what she wants: They want me to be pretty and cute so bad? I'll be the OPPOSITE and I am NOT changing back no matter WHAT anybody says!!!
But as with all declarations in the heat of the moment, one might later have second thoughts. The next day she marched up to her teacher, Ms. Mason, the one most adamant in the school about her taking the "wrong" sorts of forms--and in front of the entire class she announced that she had shapeshifted so many times into her ogre form that she was now stuck in it forever. A lie, of course, but not one that someone not an expert in the art of shapeshifting would be able to detect. She drank in the gasps of the crowd with great satisfaction as she watched her whole group of peers so hopelessly brainwashed by the strictures of Auradon's Happily Ever Afters try to wrap their heads around what had just happened--the perfect beauty, "ruined" before she could even have a chance to use her looks for their intended purpose.
She wasn't laughing long, however. Ms. Mason had tried to comfort her at first. Oh, child, she'd said. There must be a way to restore your beauty. But with the ad-libbed story that this had been going on for years and even the best doctors that her father surely had access to agreed that she was stuck, Ms. Mason's response began to put cracks in her fierce resolve.
Oh, how the woman wept, the tears from Ms. Mason's eyes as fierce and unstoppable a deluge as one of Ao Guang's mighty storms. How could you do this?! she cried, unable to keep her composure even in front of a room full of children. You were the most flawless little girl! All we had to do was to get rid of those dark circles under your eyes and make you act like the princess we all know you are and you would have been destined for the happiest of Happily Ever Afters! Now look at you! What man would ever want a wife so--so--
A pause.
So DISGUSTING!
The teacher must've gone on for at least ten or fifteen minutes, sobbing about what a waste it was that someone so beautiful from such a highborn lineage as a deity's would lower herself to such base hideousness--and what a tragedy it was that she should be punished for her youthful folly by forever losing the thing that mattered most to securing a happy end to her story. Then even after she appeared to have calmed down, she stormed over to Ne Zha when it came time for him to pick her up from school and screamed, "It's your fault! YOUR FAULT you enabled this!" Ms. Mason was lucky to have escaped that with only a slightly singed dress. If Tianyun had been in a fighting mood, and chosen to egg him on instead of try to hold him back.....
Quite obviously, there's so much to unpack there. But at the moment though, Tianyun has chosen to throw away the whole suitcase--blocking most of those events from her mind as she walks up toward Aster, partway numb to everything but her sadness as her teacher's unhinged threats to call CPS on Ne Zha vaguely swirl around on repeat in her brain. This time, however she's not in the monstrous form she loves best. She looks how she actually is, the perfect princess that Auradon wanted her to be: bright, shining eyes, soft, pale cheeks, the spitting image of her mother Ao Bing--someone who would surely grow to become a beauty of legend like both her parents. But she's tamed herself far too much: her long black hair isn't loose and free-flowing and a little bit messy like Ne Zha's, which is how she usually likes it--she's combed it out and straightened it to the point it falls almost limp down her shoulders and back. And her clothes--not the rebellious and brightly colored T-shirts, skirts and boots she loves wearing, but a white and gold hanfu that could have been forced on her by the evil Chan sect of Immortals that her parents defeated so long ago. And then, to complete the picture that something is terribly, terribly wrong in her spirit, she's shapeshifted away the dark circles surrounding her eyes that she had inherited from Ne Zha that both of them were so proud of, the one thing she found the most interesting about her natural features which were otherwise so conventional.
Of course, her parents had told her not to listen to Ms. Mason. And she had wanted to believe them. But a nine-year-old can only be so strong in the face of the world telling her what she ought to be--and so it is here she crumbles. This was supposed to be a happy day, one of the few days of the year that she was able to cross through the barrier weaknesses Ne Zha had discovered to go to the Lairs of the Lost; she would have taken the opportunity to unwind with some self-expression, if not for the stain that her teacher had left across her will to be herself. It would be so, so much easier for her to give in, to give up her fire, her ferocity, the very essence of herself--to go back on what she'd told the entire class, to apologize for having caused such a "crisis," and to forever be how she appears to Aster now. But maybe there's a chance they can convince her that her chosen path is worth the pain. And right now, she wants to be convinced.
"Auntie Aster....?" she squeaks, looking up at them, her uncertain eyes beginning to brim with tears. "Can you please help…?"

“Women rise to [feminist] fame not because they are lauded as leaders by other feminists ... but because the mainstream media sees in them a marketable image a newsworthy persona upon whom can be projected all sorts of anxieties, hopes, and responsibilities,” wrote Rachel Fudge in a 2003 essay on the struggle to reconcile activism and renown. This is important, both as it relates to feminism's past and to its improbable embrace by mainstream American pop culture. On one hand, social movements need the diplomacy and charisma of people who can speak and agitate on behalf of them. On the other, the need to distill complex ideas and goals down to their most simple and quotable talking points has unquestionably done harm to those movements, feminism included. Mainstream attention has oversimplifed complex issues the wage gap, the beauty myth, the debate over decriminalizing sex work and misrepresented goals. It has attributed collective successes to one person and minimized the plurality of feminist movements themselves. And it has turned countless would-be colleagues and compatriots into foes scrapping over crumbs of access and affirmation.
Jo Freeman's Ms. article "Trashing: The Dark Side of Sisterhood" still regularly makes its way from inbox to inbox because the anguish with which it articulates the process of being sidelined, gaslighted, and shunned—all in the name of sisterhood—is still so relevant. Freeman defined trashing as something that often masquerades as critique but is wholly different: "a particularly vicious form of character assassination" that "is not done to expose disagreements or resolve differences" but "to disparage and destroy." After its publication in 1976, the piece garnered more letters than any previous piece in Ms.—"all but a few," notes the essay's current preface, "relating [the writers'] own experience of being trashed." Formerly a member of the Chicago branch of radical feminists, Freeman left the movement completely after her deflating experiences. But two of her essays, "Trashing" and "The Tyranny of Structurelessness"—the latter an outline of the idealistic, leaderless context in which trashing often occurs—still put words to ongoing phenomena.
Individual feminists are used to being insulted and bullied by people who bear an inventory of beefs with feminists in general, especially these days, and inevitably online. Trashing or its contemporary cousin, "calling out," is different and usually a lot more painful because it comes from fellow feminists. Thanks in part to social media, trashings have become more public and more frequent with participants, as feminist sociologist Katherine Cross put it, "hyper-vigilant against sin, great or small, past or present." It's possible for trashings to start out with a core of completely valid critique but spiral outward into chaos as more people pile on and context is diffused. Some are way pettier: I was once informed that I was being trashed on an online bulletin board because I hadn't posed an apparently crucial question to a screenwriter I'd profiled. Trashings might be focused on an ideal of ideological purity: "careerist," for instance, is a sneer aimed at feminists who have the temerity to want to be known (or at least paid) for their work. Other trashings might result from an opinion that's unforgivably at odds with current feminist orthodoxy.
The competitiveness that leads to trashing obviously isn't unique to feminist movements, but as many people have pointed out over the years, it's likely to thrive within them because so many women, across ages and races and classes, are socialized to see themselves as connectors and uniters rather than experts and leaders; it's even more likely to fester because of the unmended rifts of past feminist movements. The incendiary tone of trashing is also heightened because the line between one's activism and identity is often as substantive as a vapor trail; trashing someone's work becomes indistinguishable from trashing the person themselves.

The number of 10 to 19-year-olds charged with rape in London has more than doubled in two years, according to shock new figures.
In the year to December, 802 suspects were charged out of 8,839 reports — nine per cent of the total, compared with 364 over the same period in 2021.
For those aged 10 to 19, the number shot up from 35 to 74 individuals — a rise of 111 per cent.
The Metropolitan Police figures were revealed as a leading expert issued a stark warning over the rise of teenage boys copying what they see in violent pornography.
Sian Ruddick, an NHS specialist in supporting adolescent rape victims, said many consider choking girls during sex as “normal” behaviour after viewing it on their phones.
She called for teachers to hold regular workshops on consent and boundaries because it had become “really horrific” for teenage girls in and out of the classroom.
Ms Ruddick, who works at The Havens — three clinics for survivors run by King’s College Hospital in Camberwell, Whitechapel and Ladbrooke Grove — wants schools, colleges and universities to become “zero tolerance” places for sexual violence. She said “turning the tide” on wrongdoing starts at school.
“You’re never going to be able to wipe out everyone’s access to porn, but you can have a safe and rigid conversation about consent.
“The normalisation of strangulation in sex among teenagers does feel like a step backwards. Boys see it in porn and then it’s expected. We need to have more sex-positive conversations but pornography has filled that void.”
Last month, the UK police’s lead in tackling child abuse revealed that hardcore porn and access to smart phones had turned children into abusers — with more than 6,813 alleged rapes committed by youngsters aged 10 to 17 across Britain in a year.
Ms Ruddick — a member of the pan-London rape scrutiny panel — runs a team supporting 350 women going through the justice system. Funding restraints mean another 50 are on the waiting list.
The advocates provide information, emotional and practical support, including going to meetings with police and attending court if the case goes to trial.
They work as part of a wider team at The Havens, where specialist doctors, nurses and therapists work together to support people who have been recently assaulted.
Anyone sexually assaulted or raped can ask for a forensic medical examination in order to gather DNA evidence for a criminal investigation – the timescales are different for different assaults but for vaginal rape tests can still find forensics after seven days. Last year, 1,200 examinations were carried out in the capital.
Not everyone wants to report to the police, and for those that do, keeping underwear, clothing, sanitary products, images or used condoms and not to wash or bathe helps to preserve evidence.
Later this year, a pilot will see survivors being able to give live video link evidence to Croydon Crown Court from a suite at The Havens.
Ms Ruddick said: “We don’t try to steer people to what they should or shouldn’t do.
“The most important thing is they have the information, access and time.
“We know the withdrawal rates, particularly in London, are very high. The criminal justice system can be an overwhelming place to be.
“We want survivors to know you are not alone - you will have someone with you seeking to understand and advocate. We don’t speak on behalf of our clients but we hope to amplify their voices and get to the ears of people making the decisions.”
Ms Ruddick says many victims have been left uneasy due to low trust and confidence in the Metropolitan Police following the murder of marketing executive Sarah Everard, 33, by PC Wayne Couzens who worked in the same armed unit as serial rapist PC David Carrick.
Baroness Louise Casey’s scathing review of the force painted an alarming picture of how crimes against women and children are investigated.
A lunchbox was found in the same fridge as rape samples and appliances were so full they had to be strapped shut. One fridge containing rape kits broke down, meaning evidence could not be used.
Ms Ruddick says “There is no getting away from the Met having had a really difficult couple of years. For that to be someone’s anxiety, is understandable. Things need to significantly improve if survivors are going to have faith in the process.
“But too few cases are charged and too few found guilty.
“In the past three years, we see more and more people struggling with the length of time it is taking.
“The shame that ends up being put on survivors. It’s never their fault - they are not to blame. That message feels so important. This was someone else’s choice that was inflicted on you.
“People often don’t feel able to tell their parents, friends or people at university. However, one thing we hear from clients is having their voices heard made them feel valued and believed.
“For survivors, it feels very mixed even with a guilty verdict. They find hardest an expectation from other people that they should now be fine and it’s all over. So often, it’s the start of the recovery, a different type of beginning.”
In December, teenage serial rapist Kevarnie Queen, 19, dubbed the “Brixton R Kelly” was jailed for 12 years after committing a three-year campaign of sexual violence against six girls under 18.
Commander Kevin Southworth, the Met’s lead for public protection, said: “We are dedicated to putting victim-survivors of rape at the heart of everything we do to eradicate sexual violence largely caused by predatory men and support those who are impacted.
“We’ve transformed the way we investigate rape and sexual offences, more than doubling our number of rape charges since 2021.
“We’re not complacent and remain absolutely resolute in our commitment to target offenders and protect women and girls, but we cannot do this alone.
“Listening to victim-survivors, and working together with charities and partners across the criminal justice system, we’re working to ensure that all victims-survivors have the confidence to report these most awful crimes and do all that we can to get them the justice they deserve.
“If you have been a victim of sexual violence and not yet reported it – please contact your local police service and we will do all that we can to help.”
Recent Ministry of Justice data shows the average London rape victim waits three years and three months to get a court result, down from over four years at the start of 2022.
A MoJ spokesman said ministers introduced a raft of measures to speed up hearings since the start of the pandemic, including funding unlimited Crown Court sitting days for a third year in a row.
She added: “We know that victims who feel supported are 50 per cent more likely to stay engaged in the criminal justice system and Independent Sexual Violence Advocates and Domestic Violence Advisors offer crucial emotional support to victims regardless of whether they report to the police.
“This is why we are quadrupling funding for victim and witnesses support services and committed to recruiting 300 more specialist advisors by 2025.”

Fiocruz and GEMMABio announce partnership for the development of gene therapies

Fiocruz and GEMMA Biotherapeutics (GEMMABio) announced last Tuesday (10/8) an agreement to sponsor research focused on gene therapy treatments for the Brazilian population within the scope of the Unified Health System (SUS). The ultimate goal of the international partnership with the company founded by gene therapy expert Jim Wilson is to obtain approval for gene therapy programs that will enable the country to increase the distribution of treatments for rare diseases at a more affordable cost.
With the support of the Ministry of Health (MS), the Foundation will invest up to US$100 million in GEMMABio over four years. The funds will be used to develop clinical research and production to expand the distribution of treatments for rare diseases in Brazil at a more affordable cost for the SUS.
"This partnership with GEMMABio reaffirms Fiocruz's commitment to innovation in health and its mission to ensure that scientific advances reach all Brazilians," said the Foundation's president, Mario Moreira. "By expanding access to gene therapies through the SUS, we are not only democratizing cutting-edge technologies, but also strengthening our ability to treat rare diseases in an affordable and effective manner. It is an important step to establish Brazil as a global reference in public health and innovation," he added.
"By combining our resources and expertise, this collaboration represents a major breakthrough in making gene therapies accessible to more patients faster and at a fraction of the usual cost," said Jim Wilson, president and CEO of GEMMABio. "We are optimistic that this agreement will serve as a global example for expanding access to advanced medical therapies, as well as for seeking non-traditional ways to capitalize biotechnology companies."
