What is the Mental Health of kids?
Tumblr media
The emotional, psychological, and social well-being of children is referred to as their "mental health." It influences children's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how they cope with stress, interact with others, and make decisions. A child's mental health is crucial to their overall development and can have a big impact on their success at school, in their relationships, and in the future.
Typical issues with children's mental health include:
Generalized anxiety disorder, particular phobias, separation anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder are examples of anxiety disorders. Children with anxiety disorders may worry, fear, and avoid specific situations excessively.
Depression: Children can experience depression, which may manifest as persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulty paying attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. It can impact a child's ability to focus, follow instructions, and control impulsive behavior.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): ASD is a developmental disorder that affects social interaction, communication, and behavior. Children with ASD may struggle with social skills, repetitive behaviors, and sensory sensitivities.
Eating Disorders: Conditions like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder can develop in childhood or adolescence. These disorders involve distorted eating patterns, body image issues, and potentially serious physical health consequences.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Children who experience or witness traumatic events, such as abuse, violence, or natural disasters, can develop PTSD. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and emotional distress.
Behavioral Disorders: Two instances of behavioral disorders are oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. These problems can cause children to act aggressively, defy authority figures, break rules, and have trouble controlling their impulses.
It's crucial to remember that this list is not all-inclusive and that children might experience a wide range of mental health issues. Promoting kids mental health and addressing any issues they may have requires early identification, appropriate care, and access to mental health services.

Tonight’s sensory support was for my son. At about 5pm our son said the word “playdoh” out loud as he walked past us. This is how requests most things he wants, although he can’t always use his mouth words to request things. His communication styles vary and that’s cool. So, when he said playdoh, and I knew we didn’t have any, I also knew it would only take me ten minutes to make some. So I did.
He’s been super interested in watching people build animal habitats on YouTube. Mainly turtles, frogs, hamsters and spiders, and the other day we noticed he had gathered items and was making his own animal habitat.
I decided to add cinnamon to the dough as another sensory element, instead of adding the usual food colouring. I’ve also used peppermint essence before, I think it was christmas at the time. I also gave him a tray of different shaped pasta and we had lego men, plastic trees and bits and other pieces he used.
By simply giving him the opportunity and providing him the tools to make a habit himself with things we already have at home, he is showing us what he is interested in. He is showing us in a non verbal way that he absolutely LOVES animals. And that is so cool!
Image description: two containers sit on a white marble table, the top one has different shaped dried pasta in it. The bottom container has what looks like cinnamon cookie dough in it, on top it reads Playdoh, Made 30/5/2021.

Each year since 2017 we, Love's Closet Foundation, raised funds to donate items to schools that cater for children with autism. In planning for this year we discovered that the families of the children can't afford to even transport the children to the schools to enjoy those lovely donations. They can't access the therapies that are made available by the kindest hearts because parents are unable to pay for the special care that unavailable in the public schools for children with special needs. These therapies; speech, art, music, water etc, are important and definitely provide improvement for a condition that has no cure. It ensures that the children can be integrated into the society more successfully. So this year we decided to raise money to ensure that the children can be in the classroom. Our target amount is GHS 50,000 to ensure that at least 10 children can afford 6 months of tuition and transportation to school. With all hands on deck we can make this happen. No gift is too small. To make a donation through Mobile Money send to *LOVE'S CLOSET FOUNDATION MTN MOMO* +233 24 607 5991 To donate in kind call 0269785870 Also, attend the charity fair with your family and friends. Proceeds from the fair will fund this venture. . . #LCFCharityFair2020 #AutismAwareness #BeAnAngelToday #ChildMentalHealth . #JoselynDumas #ViolenceAgainstChildren #ChildAbuse #ChildrenHealthCare #ChildrenEducation #ChildrenSafety #ChildDevelopment #ChildrenInNeed #ChildNeeds #ChildSocialCare #ChildProtection #ChildrensRights #EndPoverty #YouthEmpowerment #EmbracingPossibilities #ForEveryChild https://www.instagram.com/p/B9qiZS0paZ-/?igshid=yb97w01k37h9
