hello! i was wondering if you could write a one shot for finn wolfhard? maybe like a date night or something but take your own route!
oooo fuck yeah of course!! ; I hate writing standard dinner dates (esp bc I've never been on a date before but we ain't gonna talk about that) so I hope you enjoy this! ; thanks for requesting :) ; also I'm so sorry this is so short, writers block kicked my ass on this :(
FINN WOLFHARD ; city boy
summary ; a little date in the city with Finn
warnings ; language
disclaimers ; I don't know shit about living in a city lol
track ; city boy ; calpurnia
word count ; 551
masterlist
Tumblr media
"Jay-Z or Fleetwood Mac?" You ask, hanging Finn an earbud as you scroll through one of your playlists.
"Uh, Jay-Z" He nods, inserting the little device into his ear, making sure as he walked on your left side, that it went in his left ear, pairing with the earbud that you had in your right ear. "Now you're in New York~." He smiles, purposefully singing badly to play with you.
"Shush!" You laugh, taking his hand in yours.
When it came to dates with you two, anything but dinner was up for discussion. You both hated classy dates, you'd rather go do something fun and live your lives while you could.
You were walking down the streets towards one of the many bridges in the city, wanting to walk on one of the lower levels and experience the wind of the cars passing by punching your backs and being able to smell the water below.
The noise of the metal pittering underneath your feet was unintelligible, being defeaned by the whizzing of passing vehicles. The breeze brushes against your faces, pushing your hair back as you look over the railing, arms crossed over the ledge to get a bit of a better position to look down.
The water has a sort of quiet white noise to it, washing and running below the bridge. The tide pushes toward you, the large ripples, almost waves, stagger their way down the surface of the water, carrying the boats and canoes with them.
"This is nice" Finn says quietly, taking a glance at you to see your expression, trying to read you.
You nod in agreement, looking down at the water, feeling cars whizz past you above and behind you.
"You look nice today" He smiles, catching your gaze. "Really makes your eyes pop"
You lightly smile and roll your eyes. "Such a romantic, Finn"
"Yeah, I know"
"You wanna go down there?" You ask, pointing down at one of the boat piers.
He shrugs, "Yeah, sure"
You walk all the way back off the bridge, then make your way down the streets and across the other bridge to get you down to the docks. Near those docks was a huge fountain that you both liked to be misted with water by.
The walk down is calm and peaceful, hands tied with Blue Foundation playing in your earbuds. The breeze sends chills down your spine, causing him to feel the quick here-and-gone tenseness within the grip of your hand. His curls reveal his face as the wind pushes them back, nearly taking his jacket with it before he zipped it up.
The sun produces enough heat for a moment of warmth before it's back to chills, clouds filling the sky and hiding the firey ball of flame periodically. He pulls you a little closer, seeking your body warmth, considering you'd been wrapped up in jeans, a long sleeved shirt, and a heavy hoodie.
You look over at him, an eyebrow raised at his actions, your pace slowing down a bit for him.
"I'm cold, shut up." He smiles, resting his arm around your waist, your shoulders brushing every few steps. "You're warm"
"I'm hot, actually"
"Yeah, yeah. You are hot." He giggles, placing a light kiss on your temple.
"Mhm, say it again"
"You're hot"

💎💄Luxury Makeup 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐒 for a Flawless Look💄💎
Tumblr media
With the popularity of skincare these past few years came the desire to achieve a more natural 'your-skin-but-better' makeup look.
♡...Enter the 𝓒𝓵𝓮𝓪𝓷 𝓖𝓲𝓻𝓵 makeup look...♡
It was characterised by minimal use of makeup and an emphasis on enhancing your natural beauty. The foundation needs to look like skin, and the lipstick like natural healthy and plump lips. As simple as this all sounds, it is quite an art form.
So where do you start?
Well, when it comes to achieving a flawless makeup look, quality products can make all the difference. Investing in luxury makeup can elevate your beauty routine and give you a professional finish. Furthermore as high-end products are concerned, a little goes a long way.
Here's a curated list of essential luxury makeup products that you might need in your collection:
𝕮𝖔𝖒𝖕𝖑𝖊𝖝𝖎𝖔𝖓:
A high-quality foundation is the key to a flawless base. Look for a luxury foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly and provides a smooth, even coverage. Brands like Dior and Giorgio Armani offer a range of luxurious foundations that blend seamlessly into the skin, giving you a natural yet polished finish. A good quality concealer can make stubborn blemishes vanish without a thick and unnatural finish.
How to Use:
Apply the foundation using a beauty blender or a foundation brush, starting from the center of your face and blending outwards. Make sure to blend well into your jawline and neck for a seamless look. Start with a light layer and be sure to spot conceal any visible blemishes. This creates a flawless base without the cakey look of layered foundation.
High-end Foundatation/Base Recomendations:
Tumblr media
Dior Face and Body Foundation
Tumblr media
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Tumblr media
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
𝕷𝖆𝖘𝖍𝖊𝖘:
No makeup look is complete without mascara. A luxury mascara can add volume, length, and definition to your lashes, instantly opening up your eyes and making them pop. Choose a higher-end mascara from brands like Too Faced or Yves Saint Laurent for a smoother application, intense pigmentation and long-lasting wear.
How to Use:
Start by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler, then apply the mascara from the roots to the tips in a gentle zig-zag motion. Build up layers for added volume and intensity.
High-end Mascara Recomendations:
Tumblr media
Too Face Better Than Sex Mascara
Tumblr media
MAC Extended Play Lash
𝕷𝖎𝖕𝖘:
A swipe of luxury lipstick can instantly elevate your look and add a touch of glamour. Opt for a smooth that compliments your skintone from brands like Tom Ford or Charlotte Tilbury for a creamy, long-lasting formula that feels comfortable on the lips. Some sheer lipgloss further elevates the look and adds to the glowy final product.
How to Use:
Start by outlining your lips with a lip liner for precision, then fill in the lips with the subdued lipstick shade of your choice. Ad a layer of clear, light pink of peachy lip gloss for an extra glow.
High-end Lipstick/Lipgloss Recomendations:
Tumblr media
Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color
Tumblr media
LANEIGE Lip Glowy Balm
𝕰𝖞𝖊𝖘 𝖆𝖓𝖉 𝕭𝖗𝖔𝖜𝖘:
A versatile eyeshadow palette is a must-have for creating a variety of eye looks, from subtle daytime glam to sultry evening styles. Invest in a luxury palette from brands like Natasha Denona or Pat McGrath for a range of pigmented shades and buttery textures. A single decent brow pencil can last you ages and carry you through various looks too.
How to use:
Start by applying an eyeshadow primer and choosing neutral shades that complement your skin tone. Apply a transition shade in the crease, followed by a light shimmer shade on the eyelid. Blend the edges for a seamless gradient and define the lash line with a dark eyeshadow powde. For your brows, brush them in the direction of hair growth, fill in the soparc3 areas gently with a brow pencil or powder for a more natural look.
High-end Eyeshadow/Brow Recomendations:
Tumblr media
LAURA GELLER NEW YORK The Delectables Earthy Essentials Baked Eyeshadow Palette
Tumblr media
Anastasia Beverly Hills - Brow Wiz
By incorporating these luxury makeup must-haves into your beauty routine, you can achieve a flawless look that exudes sophistication and elegance. Experiment with different shades and techniques to discover what works best for you, and enjoy the transformative power of high-quality makeup products.
But never forget..

Violent Psychopath + Abnormal Psychologist = Loving Relationship?
CHAPTER 1: FIRST ENCOUNTERS
———
Fandom: CBS MacGyver (2016 reboot)
Pairing: Murdoc x Emmett Becker (fan character)
CW: uhh none? I think? Lemme know if anyone sees anything that should be tagged!!/gen
———
“Damn, poor Emmett’s ‘bouta get eaten alive in there!” came the very encouraging remark from Jack Dalton, a fairly new coworker of Dr. Emmett Becker.
Or rather, Dr. Becker was the new coworker to Jack, really, having only been working at the Phoenix Foundation for a month or so. It was, as usual, Angus MacGyver who served as the social glue that held their little friend/colleague group together, and it was Mac who had recommended Emmett be picked up by the Foundation to work there as their resident psychology expert.
In the short time that Emmett had been working at the Phoenix Foundation, they had found quite quickly that most situations escalated very fast here. One such situation was probably a week ago, during which a highly trained and very lethal assassin, dubbed by intelligence Suspect 218- and later revealed to have adopted the name Murdoc- had been sent to kill MacGyver and the rest of the crew, including Riley Davis, Jack Dalton and even Director Patricia Thornton.
It was a team effort of course, but the crew were more than willing to admit that Emmett’s astonishing psychological expertise as well as their highly attuned empathy may very well have helped save their lives by allowing them to get inside of Murdoc’s head and get him arrested.
Now, standing inside of one of the nation’s most secure supermax prisons, before a steel door, Emmett would soon have to face the man who almost killed four of their closest friends and colleagues.
They were here to glean further information of Murdoc on a number of things from his past kills to any associates still out in the field. He was a veritable treasure trove of information and Emmett knew that.
It didn’t make it any easier or less terrifying to step through the door as it clicked to unlock and the guards swung it open.
As Emmett stepped through and into the small room, they instinctively and very immediately noticed everything about it: the gray concrete walls, the stark and harsh lighting coming from the light fixture above the steel table in the center of the room. And sitting at that table was Murdoc.
“Well, well, well” he started in what Emmett couldn’t tell was a delighted or mocking tone; maybe it was both, “What kind of little present has been sent to me now and perhaps more importantly, by whom?”
“Hello Mister Murdoc, I’m Dr. Emmett Becker. I’m a psychologist with the Phoenix Foundation. I’ve been assigned to your case. Or rather, I was assigned to your case when you tried to kill my colleagues. Let’s talk about that, shall we?”
Murdoc looked down at the table, chuckling a bit before raising his head again to meet Emmett’s eyes. They looked at the wall behind him, not wanting to make eye contact with him.
“Hello, Dr. Emmett Becker!” he said, chipperly, artificially, and a little more loudly than necessary, “As you well know already, I am Murdoc. We can dispense with the formalities on my end, Doc, it's just Murdoc, no ‘mister’ necessary, mhm’kay?”
He paused after that, making a show of openly eyeing Emmett up and down from where they were sitting across from him. “Say, you really don’t look like a Phoenix agent… or really, any type of intelligence operative… you’re new aren’t you?”
He smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes.
Emmett notices. They can see it in his body language, hear it in the languid voice he uses, this man really is a predator.
They respond in kind, giving up just enough information to gain some trust and repertoire with Murdoc.
“Alright Murdoc, you got me, I am indeed new to working at the Phoenix Foundation. And yes, I’m also new to the intelligence world in general. But, I assure you, I am qualified; psychology undergrad at UCLA, graduate and doctoral degree in abnormal psychology at Stanford, multiple years of research in academia at-”
Murdoc cut them off saying, “impressive, impressive.. Very impressive… but, Emmett- may I call you Emmett?- but what exactly makes you think you have any chance at all to get me to cooperate? Seeing as all of the previous therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists in my life have failed, of course. They were all wildly intelligent too, just like you. And I killed every last one of them.” he smiles darkly, “What is it that makes you believe you’re special?”
Emmett blinked owlishly at Murdoc before answering simply, “I don’t. I don’t think I am much of anything special. But I think you are. I think there are things worth hearing, worth learning trapped in your head. I’m just here to do that, just listen, listen and learn, Murdoc. Is that alright with you?”
Murdoc looked a little taken aback at Emmett’s honesty, genuinely surprised at how forthcoming they were being. Most professionals in their field were lying, cheating, backstabbing assholes that were master manipulators. In fact, one of Murdoc’s interests was in psychology for that very reason. They were exploitative tricksters. And yet, this one was so very unlike the others, so … charmingly candid.
Murdoc looked contemplative for a moment, the malice present there in his eyes before, now fading. He gazed at Emmett thoughtfully before speaking in a soft voice, “You…really mean that don’t you?”
Emmett simply nodded in response. They weren’t entirely sure what to make of Murdoc’s apparent change in demeanor yet but he quickly confirmed what they were guessing.
“Perhaps we will be having some more little chats in the future…but for now, I’m tired and want to take a nap, go on, run along now Doc, can’t wait for our next little conversation…”
Something about the way Murdoc had said it; it reeked of sarcasm, and yet, Emmett could tell some part of him was being sincere, he actually was looking forward to talking again. And that, that was something Emmett could leverage.
———
SO I’m reposting this (as of now, unfinished) series bc I posted it a looong time ago and basically I can’t find it 😭 so here it is again and for the newcomers ig!!

oohh okay okay. sickfic where dennis has the tiniest little cold or smth and is being SO overdramatic about it so mac will take care of him
Thank you for the prompt!
~
Dennis is annoying.
Okay, everyone already knows this. The dude is a fountain of complaints and unhappiness to the point that Mac isn’t sure he’s ever really been comfortable anywhere. Mac’s convinced Den popped outta his mom’s vagina like that, all cranky and irritable and dramatic. He met Dennis when the dude was barely 16; his hair was too curly, and his ego was too big from being a yuppy rich kid. Yet – and he still doesn’t understand this – here they are 30 years later, where Mac’s got a lifetime of calming Dennis down under his belt.
Except he hasn’t been successful today. Something is different about today.
For starters, Dennis woke up late, grumbling under his breath about being cold. Except it’s the middle of May, and there’s absolutely no logical reason for him to be cold, but that doesn’t stop Dennis from bitching every three Goddamn seconds at Mac to turn on the heat, to which Mac responds with a quick “fuck that,” because, seriously, fuck that. It’s close to 80 degrees outside, and the humidity is atrocious. Like he said, there’s no logical reason for Dennis’ behavior (there never really is), and Mac is convinced that he’s sunk into the depths of Hell long before they even leave the apartment to go to work.
For seconds, Dennis has this cough and runny nose that’s been bothering him for the last couple days. It’s barely anything bat an eye at. But, in true Dennis fashion, the guy will not stop bringing it up. Last night when Mac was cooking dinner, he went on and on about how he couldn’t smell anything, about how his throat was starting to hurt from coughing, about how dangerously dehydrated he was, and why wasn’t Mac making him drink water? It’s a stupid question because of course Mac’s been force-watering Dennis since 1999, but Mac pointing out that fact doesn’t make the situation any more better. In fact, something about him saying that offends Dennis. Although, what doesn’t offend Dennis? But anyway, Den spent the rest of the night sulking underneath a blanket on the couch, demanding that Mac rub his calves, which Mac was gonna do anyway.
And, now, Dennis is sitting at the bar, sneezing wetly into his open palm.
Mac rolls his eyes. “Do you need a tissue?”
“Don’t use my own line on me.” His voice is nasally.
“What? Ew. No, you know I didn’t mean it like that.”
Dennis scoffs. “Ew? What do you mean ‘ew’?”
Mac sighs. “Nothing. Never mind. Here.” He hands Dennis a crumpled tissue from the pockets of his Dickies. “Blow your nose.”
Dennis snatches it from him. “Don’t tell me what to do.” But he blows his nose messily anyway. “Jesus Christ, when is this gonna stop?”
He’s dangerously close to rolling his eyes, but he’s probably, like, reached his daily quota of eye rolling, so he settles on looking Dennis over instead. The guy’s wearing an oversized hoodie, something he wouldn’t typically be caught dead in. His baby blues are a little bloodshot. He isn’t wearing any foundation, and his hair is tousled from all of his irritating body noises. He is a little paler than normal. Not anything super significant, and it’s nothing to worry about, but it’s still just a little out of the ordinary.
“Relax. You’re being dramatic,” Mac finds himself saying as he takes a swig of his beer.
Dennis snaps his head back, eyes wide. “Dramatic? I may be dying, Mac, but I see that doesn’t matter to you.”
Mac snorts. “Dying? Den, you have a cold,” he says. “I’m not even sure I would classify this as a cold.”
“Oh yeah?” His voice is getting all high and whiny in that way that Mac hates. “You wouldn’t ‘classify’ this as a cold? Look at you using big words all of a sudden.”
“Hey, I use big words all the time!” Mac exclaims.
Dennis sticks his tongue out at him.
Mac punches Dennis on the arm.
“Fuck,” Dennis groans as he rubs his upper arm. He sniffles and wipes his nose with his sleeve instead of using the tissue in his hand. Mac tries to ignore how pitiful and pathetic he looks. “Why would you do that, Mac? I’m sick.”
“Oh my god, dude, you’re not sick! You. Have. A. Cold.”
Dennis basically sticks his bottom fucking lip out and looks all of ten years old once Mac says that. He coughs and clears his throat before putting his head in his hands. He’s bent over the bar and sniffling every five seconds, and it’s starting to drive Mac up the wall. He doesn’t understand why Dennis is like this literally every time he has a cold. God forbid he ever gets the flu or some shit because then – oh, boy – that’s when the real fun starts. When Dennis is sick, actually sick, he likes to bask in denial until he’s practically hospitalized.
Mac exhales and reaches out until his hand is on the small of Dennis’ back. Charlie and Frank are messing around in the basement, and Dee – the bitch – never showed up for work today, so he doesn’t have to worry about any of their stupid questions or hurried accusations about how ‘gay’ they are. He rubs his lower back with his thumb. Dennis doesn’t flinch or pull away. In fact, Mac thinks he feels him kinda sink into the touch a little bit. Huh. Maybe he isn’t feeling too good after all.
“Why don’t we go home?” Mac suggests. “I’ll put in a movie, and we can just chill out the rest of the night.”
Dennis sniffles. “I’d like that,” he says roughly.
So that’s what they do.
Mac drives back to their apartment because, in the fading afternoon light, Dennis does sorta look like crap. He keeps the car quiet and absurdly warm. Dennis nods off long enough for Mac to grab some overpriced cold meds, tissues, and cough syrup from the Wawa. By the time they arrive home, Mac is manhandling Dennis out of the Range Rover and up the stairs. Dennis coughs and wipes his nose on his sleeve again.
“Go change into some PJs. I’ll put in Predator.”
Dennis returns a couple minutes later in one of Mac’s few long sleeved shirts and green plaid pajama pants. He takes a seat on the leather couch and leans his head on his arm. Mac changes too and sets the box of tissues on Dennis’ lap, who immediately digs into them. Orange juice and cold meds in hand, he sits down shoulder to shoulder with Dennis, who is looking more miserable as the minutes pass.
“I got you some cough syrup too,” Mac says as he gives the meds to Dennis. “Just in case.”
Mac watches as Dennis swallows the juice and pills. He gulps noisily and swipes a tissue under his nose. “Ugghhh,” he murmurs. “This sucks.”
And that’s when Dennis puts his head on Mac’s shoulder. Mac stiffens and tries to steady his breathing. He and Dennis have had nights like this before, where touching isn’t so foreign and scary, especially recently. Eventually, Mac melts into it too, gently settling his head on top of Dennis’.
“Thanks,” Dennis mumbles nasally when they’re five minutes into the movie.
Mac’s eyebrows furrow. “For what?”
“Takin’ care of me.”
Mac nods. “Course, Den.”
Yes, Dennis is annoying, really annoying actually, but he’s a lot less annoying like this.
Mac settles in for an early night and tentatively presses a kiss to Dennis’ temple.
Dennis hums, and Mac feels whole.

Dear Jen! How late everything going? Did your event go well yesterday?
I wanted to ask for your advice for someone who doesn’t where make up. I’d like to get a light makeup routine for day to day but I’m not sure where to start.
hope you’ve had a great weekend! ❤️😘
where to start, hmm. A lot will depend on what you think is the most important, or what is considered light makeup.
I think a good moisturizer is a start. My favorite that moisturizes and preps the skin is embryolisse - lait creme concentre. I think skin tints are great for daily wear. I love MAC Face and Body, and they have a new serum foundation that I haven't tried yet. But Maybelline and L'Oreal have great skin tints as well.
Concealer to me is a must. You could forget about the foundation/skin tint and just use that. It brightens the under eyes, plus evens things out.
A powder, some people don't like to set things, but I promise at least the under eyes should be. Pat McGrath has a great under eye powder that I'm never without, just ordered it at the Sephora VIB Sale.
You need to put color back into your face. Whether it's a blush, bronzer or both. Choose one. It's important.
I think a great highlighter is a must for me. Or even just something like the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is something else I'm not without.
A good lip product. Doesn't matter if you love lipstick or just a lipbalm, it makes the lips look there and more plump.

dennis' morning routine takes him two hours, and he wakes up around five a.m. every day regardless of what time he is needed at the bar. the time that he goes to sleep depends on how late he is working at paddy's. dennis usually gets between four - six hours of sleep a night ( yes he could use more but sleep is something that he has always struggled with ).
5:00 am - he wakes up and spends some time in bed. he will use this time in bed to check his text messages, emails, and other notifications on his phone. he does not use a phone alarm to wake him up, he still has an alarm clock on his bedside table. he does not need more than one alarm to wake him up, just one alarm that goes off at five. 5:10 am - once he is out of bed he does ten jumping jacks, twenty push ups, twenty sit ups, and twenty crunches. he does this morning work out in his bedroom. 5:30 am - once he is done in his bedroom he heads to the bathroom to shower, and he does these next steps in order. shampoo, body wash, conditioner, body wash, rinse out conditioner, body mask, rinse, dry off. he takes his time with these steps, and prefers a cooler running shower to a hot water. he picks his clothes for the day the evening before. so once he is out of the shower he towels off, applies an unscented body lotion, and gets dressed. 5:50 am - next he moves on to skincare. depending on the day, he will start off with shaving. he usually shaves his face and neck every other day. he starts with a cleanser, than a vitamin c serum, moisturizer, under eye cream that is meant to target wrinkles and dark under eye circles, and finally a spf. he will apply concealer, foundation, and a bit of mascara as well. 6:00 am - he moves on to then floss, brush his teeth, and mouth wash. 6:10 am - next is his hair. he adds a leave in conditioner, and then he will put on a curl defining mousse. he lets his hair air dry through out the morning. 6:20 am - he gets started on his morning coffee. he switches between a pour over coffee maker or a french press depending on the day. yes, he grinds his own coffee beans with a burr grinder and a goose neck electric kettle. 6:30 am - he sits down at the kitchen table and reads the days paper and drink his coffee. first priority is catching up on the news, and then he fills out the crossword for the day. depending on how he's feeling, he will sometimes make himself a second cup of coffee. 6:55 am - he does a double check in the mirror to make sure his hair is looking alright, his skin is looking alright, and his clothes are not wrinkled. 7:00 am - time to start the day !! if he doesn't have to go to paddy's until later he will go out and run errands, or stay at the apartment and find something to do there.
no step in this routine can be missed. if he misses a step it will throw off his whole day and he will be extremely irritable and it will be easier to set him off. if someone tries to interrupt his morning routine he will simply glare at them and not respond. mac learned quickly after moving in with dennis to give him his alone time and space in the mornings.

Debut of Duplinatrix
Tumblr media
A lone supervillainess robbing a jewelry store? Foundation thought the crime was barely worth his superheroic attention, but duty called.
When he cornered the leather-clad beauty, Foundation asked, “Did you really think you could get away with this all by yourself?”
The villainess grinned wicked. “No, we didn’t.” Before Foundation’s eyes, the brunette split into two perfect, gorgeous twins. They approached him from either side. “Duplinatrix is never alone!”
“I’m stronger than both of you,” Foundation said, trying to keep them both in view. “What do you think you’re going to do?”
“Oh, we’re going to do whatever we want,” the pair spoke in harmony. As the resonance of their voices struck Foundation, their words filled his mind, his heart, and body. Every phrase Duplinatrix muttered surged through him like the word of god. Indisputable.
As Foundation sank to his knees, he thought his cock was barely worth Duplinatrix’s supervillianous attention, but her voice called.

Throwback story of the first appearance of Duplinatrix: The supervillainess who is her own team-up and whose preferred style of masturbation is girl-girl has gone on to many nefarious schemes, perhaps most notably when she teamed up with the Dominator to take down Doctor Q and Mac Mini in a story written with kenjibound!

Daisy Jones & The Six - An Honest Review
As an avid follower of Reese's Book Club, when Daisy Jones & The Six was announced as the March '19 pick, I was intrigued. I'm always down for a fictional band to follow and fall in love with. If you've seen it, you'll understand why That Thing You Do! holds a very special place in my heart. So when I read that Taylor Jenkins Reid's latest book was inspired by Fleetwood Mac, that was all I needed to be hooked in and ready to invite The Six into my groupie scrapbook.
After another read-through of the book, and diving into the series the moment it dropped, I have a few thoughts to share.
I noticed a few comments on the Hello Sunshine IG page about the format of the paperback being hard to engage with. So I bought the audiobook before the original print version.
I feel it works better as an audiobook - after all, it's an oral history of the band. And I have to give major credit to the voice acting - it was a fun listen, with Jennifer Beals giving Daisy (inevitably) a Stevie Nicks rasp. But Miss Nicks she is not.
Daisy Jones is a precocious, headstrong character whose groovy chick persona gets lost in being repeatedly defined by her red hair and 'stunning big blue eyes - dark, cobalt blue'. No wonder she wants to break out of the box everyone puts her in. In true rock 'n' roll style, she goes off the rails, spiraling into a destructively hedonistic lifestyle with the unstoppable force of a tornado. In the Amazon Prime adaptation, the foundations are laid, but it looks like they're building something entirely different.
A review of the series by Collider calls it 'serviceable as a decent binge for people who get off on reading about how much Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham hated each other[...]' and I have to agree.
From book to screen, the journey back to the 70s is loosely translated. Sure, there are a few references to the Whiskey and the Plaster Casters in TJR's book, giving us just enough of a glimpse into the groupie scene - but this isn't the inner circle. Daisy exists on the fringe of it all, desperate to be one of the It Girls. The first episode's cinematography and costume choices are clearly influenced by Pamela Des Barres' memoir and Almost Famous, with a little bit of Ali McGraw Love Story styling for Camila Morrone thrown in for good measure.
But it falls short in a few places. For starters, the talking heads feel a little disjointed. They're supposed to take place 20 years later, yet the clothes look a little too modern. They haven't aged enough. Although, I have to say Timothy Olyphant is serving some Cougs (John Cougar Mellencamp, for the uninitiated) realness in those later interviews.
When spliced in between the main body of the story, we see nothing of the individual recollections of the characters. It's one singular objective truth. Perhaps that's the nature of the adaptations that get churned out by streaming platforms - keep it simple. Because in terms of storytelling, simplicity equates to watchable, binge-worthy television.
The story of a rock band is always anything but simple.
Maybe we'll see a little more complexity in future episodes. The story so far unfolds slowly, with only a few memorable lines. Tightening the dialogue seems to have been a slight challenge for the writers - at times it feels a little contrived. When you're working with original material that's almost entirely comprised of dialogue, it should lend itself to the screen almost verbatim with relative ease. The changes to the plot seem to have been made in order to accommodate the 10 episode format. As a result, it dulls a little of its glam rock shine.
That being said, props to Hello Sunshine and Amazon for including TJR in the writing process. It gives me a little more faith in the show, just as it did with the production company's previous hits Big Little Lies (still waiting on that third season!) and Little Fires Everywhere.
Amazon's Daisy Jones & The Six may not be as engaging as the book, but I'm still along for the ride.

Surviving and Thriving: CMAS’s Top 5 Tips for the School Year
Whether you’re a first year, fourth year, someone who has lost count, or someone who still walks aimlessly around BSB looking for their classroom. The school year is always a daunting one– especially with midterm season creeping up on us. Our goal at CMAS is to be there for everyone. That’s why for our very first blog post, we have created our Top 5 Tips for the School Year so that we can all survive and thrive!
Get to know your authors:
Anastasia Arps (Social Media & Web Copywriter)
Hey friends! I am a fourth year Honours Communication Studies student, I enjoy cycling and writing horror stories!
Jacqueline Pham (Communications Officer)
Hi everyone, so happy you are here! I am a fourth year Communication Studies student here at Mac, some of my favourite hobbies include embroidery and baking!
The Basics
Embarking on the student journey is an exciting yet demanding phase of life. To navigate its various challenges successfully, building a solid foundation for self-care is absolutely vital. Here are the 3 non-negotiable aspects that’ll help you power through even the toughest of times:
Proper nutrition - Maintaining a healthy diet doesn't have to be an intimidating task; it can be surprisingly simple! Incorporating essential nutrients into your routine, like kick starting your day with a nutritious smoothie jam-packed with greens and goodness, is a great way to get those vitamins in. However, when time is tight, supplements can be a lifesaver, especially during those dark winter months when we need that extra boost of vitamin D.
Regular physical activity - Staying active doesn't mean spending hours at the gym. It's all about finding enjoyable ways to keep your body moving, even in the midst of a busy academic season. Take a stroll around campus to get your steps in or opt for biking along the scenic trails in Hamilton. Studies have consistently shown that even simple activities like walking can significantly contribute to overall health and well-being.
Engaging in feel-good personal activities - Amidst the academic hustle, don't forget to indulge in activities that bring you joy! Whether it's playing your favourite video games, a bit of retail therapy, savouring a meal at your favourite restaurant, or experimenting with cooking. Integrating hobbies and entertainment into your routine is essential for a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle.
2. McMaster Resources
Struggling with student life? Need support academically? Mentally? In my four years at McMaster, the one thing I wish I utilized more was the amazing resources that McMaster has to offer. I know you probably see these resources posted all the time around Mac but I highly suggest you take advantage of the resources that will best support you! Some upcoming programs include:
ACT on Anxiety
DBT: Interpersonal Effectiveness
Managing Your Worry and Anxiety
Mend Your Mood
SWC offers FREE Fruit Fridays ! A great way to sneak in those extra vitamins.
The Student Wellness Centre also offers additional programs and advice columns relating to personal finances, relationships, and cooking. Visit the McMaster Wellness Centre website to register for these programs.
3. Keep Organized
Assignments, tests, quizzes, essays, oh my! When midterm season rolls around, if you find that you struggle with keeping mental tabs of what and when something is due, look towards organization tools to help out. There are lots of different ways to stay on track with due dates so don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are a few organizational suggestions to never miss a due date ever again:
Notion -  An application that allows you to create your own personal webpage where you can input anything ranging from links to course readings or calendars with assignment due dates. Check out this YouTube video that links you to aesthetic templates and how to utilize Notion!
Phone Calendar - For the minimalistic approach, simply input when a specific assignment is due and set an alert for a set amount of time. This alert will go off, reminding you that this assignment is due soon and you should start working on it!
Daily/Weekly/Monthly To Do Lists - Having one or all three will keep you on your feet and ahead of those pesky due dates. Look at stationery stores that may have specific to-do list calendars in stock or print out a free version of one you like and decorate it yourself.
Affirmation Board - A cute board or reminder that keeps you motivated will encourage productivity and promote being nice to yourself during stressful times.
4. Connect with your Faculty
Introducing yourself and getting to know your professors, Teaching Assistants, and fellow classmates is a great way to develop a sense of community and open new doors. While it may seem nerve-wracking, developing a professional relationship with faculty and friends in your programs will help you in the long run– or at the very least, the entirety of the course. Additionally, when you head into a new class– whether it be next semester or next school year– and you’re able to recognize someone’s friendly face, it will always ease your nerves because you have an already established relationship with that individual.
5. Attend CMAS Events
Come out to our CMAS events! At CMAS, we love to encourage those in Communications, Media Arts, or Humanities to come out, socialise, and create bonds with your fellow Hum students (not to mention the awesome CMAS team that will be there to support you!). This is a great opportunity to meet new people, strengthen friendships, and develop connections. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@cmasmcmaster) for upcoming events! We have an event coming up in late October and we hope that we’ll see lots of you there as a way to decompress after midterms.
A huge thank you for reading through our very first blog post! We hope you stay tuned for more exciting and insightful content! Check us out on Instagram for future events / updates and TikTok for your late night scrolls.
Until next time, Anastasia & Jacqueline
