I'm rewatching Buzzfeed Unsolved because comfort show and this moment always makes me laugh.

Like, Father Thomas is a prolific and internationally-known exorcist and religious figure.

Ryan could have said "I met a Priest once..." or "a wise man" or "a holy man" or any number of other adjectives to reflect his supposed respect for Thomas, and the best he can come up with is "old man". 😂😂

Percy feels like a magician being pulling out of a rabbits mouth by a hat. He impresses everyone else at camp, everyone, but not you. This is just wrong. He’s cool? He’s a child of the Big Three? He’s cool?

Okay fine, he thinks, I’ll just summon a mini hurricane.

And now half of the dryads at camp are pissed at him for messing up their hair and the lake is in semi-disarray.

You’re standing at the beach, sneakers kissing the water as you watch him attempt to juggle balls of seaweed and fail miserably. He’s got that cute charming smile on his face as usual and he totally thinks you’re into him until you shake your head and turn around.

He speeds towards you on his personal storm of H2O, plants and confusion.

“Y/n!”

“Percy.” You turn back towards him and shove a lock of hair out of you face.

Now, he doesn’t know what to say. He’s exhausted his vocabulary already. You save him the trouble.

“Need something?”

“What’s your issue?” Wow, great going Percy. Really awesome of you to start that way.

“I’m kind of hungry but otherwise, I don’t have any.”

“Well then why are you… why are you so-”

“So unimpressed with your circus act? Because, Percy, I don’t care.”

His heart dropped. His hurricane slowed and quieted down. He wanted to say he didn’t care either but you continued.

“I don’t care about seaweed juggling or completely-water squirt guns or manatee love triangles,” He was going to say that it was actually a love square but you cut him off, again. You were pretty good at that. “That’s superficial. And it’s not you. You, Perce, are more than water tricks and badly timed jokes. I’m not impressed with those things because I don’t care to know what makes other people laugh, I care to know what makes you happy.”

Percy’s heart regained its footing and found itself in his chest again, a little bit higher now but maybe that was from his puffed-out chest. At some point in your speech, you hands had landed on his cheeks. You pulled him out of the water and the hurricane died instantly, washing away without a trace.

He stood next to you on the beach, speechless.

You nudged his mouth close with an index finger on his chin. “You don’t have to say anything witty. I’m just happy you heard me.”

You almost closed his mouth another time as it hung open before it started speaking. “Yeah, me too.”

There was a pause, his hand found your nape.

“I like you.” He confessed.

“I know,” You agreed, “I like you too.”

He kissed you softly, you tasted like marshmallows and juice.

“So I guess this means I can tell the sea lions we don’t need to hear their cover of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’?”

You laughed and it made his eyes crinkle. Maybe he couldn’t impress you, but at least he could make you smile.

“You can’t steal a person. Xb made the choice to come with me.”

Xb flaps his tail lazily from the center of the pool. The chlorine feels strange against his scales, but it’ll do for the time being, for being the first time he’s been in fresh air for quite a while. He tilts his head and watches Hypno argue with his chilly human, only to realize they’ve turned to him.

“Don’t look at me. I was the one who was stolen,” he says. Hypno sighs in a way that’s grown familiar.

“You told me I—I’m just saying that—this isn’t even ours, Cub!”

“We steal Keralis’s pool all the time,” the chilly human says. “He hasn’t called the cops on us yet.”

“I think he’s trying to Home Alone us,” Hypno mutters, “not that he’s an altruist.”

“Eh,” the chilly human says.

“When you said you had a plan—”

“I didn’t have a mermaid plan. I had a ‘Scar steals a manatee from the aquarium’ plan that I modified. Have to say, Hypno, didn’t expect you to be the one to make me use it.”

“…why would a Scar steal a manatee, and how were you planning on handling the chemicals in here?” Xb asks. It is, he figures, the only truly relevant part of the conversation.

“He’s Scar,” Hypno answers, at the same time as the chilly human answers:

“That was one of the steps I modified when Hypno told me you’d be able to just breathe a bit of air. Didn’t have to buy out the water treatment for fish from Petco.”

“What?” Hypno says.

“Fair,” Xb says, as though he knows what a Petco is. (He knows many human things after his time in captivity. That is not one of them.)

“Stop complaining so much,” the chilly human says. “Who else would you have asked who’d have a plan like this?”

“Jevin,” Hypno says instantly.

“Rude.”

“We can’t just keep Xb in Keralis’s pool. We have to have another place to put him later. Ideally, the actual ocean, but even before then,” Hypno continues.

“It is a little small,” Xb concedes. It is still better than his old tank by far, but if he’s being given the time to complain…

“Not just that,” Hypno says. “But—”

“Aha! I got you this time!” a sing-song voice from above says. “Naughty boys! Here to wreck my pool again. I have you now!”

In front of Xb, he watches Hypno and the chilly human move awkwardly as though to hide him from the man standing on the balcony. Xb, who is far more reasonable about these things. He doesn’t attempt to hide. He looks up at the human instead, curiously. He feels something in his chest looking at him, and something more when the human stops talking about catching Hypno and his friends, and locks eyes with Xb.

Xb bares his teeth and flares his fins in a threat display. Not because he feels the need to be threatening—he’s not frightened—but because he wants to see what this human will do.

The human’s face morphs into a wide smile.

“Oh! You’ve brought me a princess!” he says. “Hello, princess! I am Keralis!”

Xb regards him for a moment. “Xb,” he says.

“Lovely!” Keralis says.

There’s a moment of stunned silence from the others.

“It took me three months to get you to let me say your name!” Hypno says accusingly. “Three months!”

“Keralis is prettier,” Xb says instantly, dry as the outside of his old tank.

“True,” the chilly human responds, and Keralis giggles.

“I hate all of you,” Hypno says, and Xb knows that’s a lie. You don’t steal people you hate.

I have another TK/Owen moment from Flashback Fic because it involves a certain moose that I told @goodways about in this ask and now, much like Carlos after he hooked up with TK, I can't get Monty Morgan out of my head.

Owen cups TK’s left heel in his palm and moves the flashlight over it again, inspecting close. “God. I see another piece of glass. You’ve stepped in who-knows-what. When was your last tetanus shot?”

TK, who can barely recall his own name, wails at his dad to take a chill pill, and he’s so ridiculous it actually makes Owen laugh.

“There’s my boy,” he says, “You’re going to be okay.”

Owen finishes patching up TK’s feet quietly and helps him hobble across the living space to his bedroom. TK hasn’t spent the night here since he moved into his own rented apartment, and it’s pretty much the same it’s been since his late-teens:

Off-white walls are decorated with posters of Nirvana, Death Cab, Eminem, Muse, and shirtless Brad Pitt.

A bright yellow comforter covers the bed in the corner, the foot of which meets the window. TK has often sat at the end of this bed, staring at the street below, people watching, alone but not lonely.

The pinewood desk is long-free of schoolwork, neat now with a mug from the Guggenheim that is full of colorful pens, and a few old books about photography, human biology, and twentieth-century American literature, with a battered copy of The Catcher in the Rye on top.

A rug of muted rainbow squares remains on the hardwood floor.

Rory the lion, whose mane he trimmed short with the kitchen scissors.

Montgomery ‘Monty’ Morgan the Moose, a gift from Aunt Elinor, who moved to Montreal to work at a research station when TK was eight. She mailed the silky-soft, sweet-faced moose with floppy antlers to Gwyn – a lifelong lover of perplexingly cute giant creatures like moose, manatees, walrus, sloths. Gwyn named him Montgomery ‘Monty’ Morgan and gave him to TK; TK took Monty Morgan with him to Owen’s because he helped with his homesickness when he was away from her.

TK grabs Monty Morgan for something to press against his sore stomach and crashes onto his old bed, his face twisting. He’s felt so unwell since he had to stand up again. To Owen, his son might as well be the colicy baby he once was, the way he’d thrash and his face would contort with pain. The way his tongue would jut in and out of his mouth. His mouth is dark red today. The skin around his lips blotchy as if zits lie below the surface, ready to erupt. His tongue is cracked like sun-dried earth, and earthish in tone, just a hint of its former pinkness. Slowly – yet it's strikingly apparent – TK lies before his father and drains to gray.

My name is [REDACTED], but you can call me Lump.

I’m a 23 year old ginger, use any pronouns with a slight lean towards they/it, and am an aroace pansexual.

I have a degree in Physics with plans to go into a PhD program for research Astronomy. My area of focus is galaxy structure, formation, and evolution. I’m currently working on my first research papers, adapting my undergraduate thesis work into proper astronomy journal form. I love doing physics and take requests for calculations, stupid or serious (check “#lump’s calculations” for those I’ve done so far, these are my best posts by far).

I try to keep fully nsfw stuff off this blog, but mild nsfw is to be expected

Outside of research, work, and classes I can usually be found gaming, playing MTG, or putting way too much effort into my shitposts while watching something on my second monitor.
