It's common knowledge that Nolan is the boss' favorite. He's the second in command, the closest man to Makarov, and his most favored soldier. The whole company knows this, and so does Makarov.

But then Makarov wants to test something out. See if Nolan is aware at all, or if he takes it for granted.

He's always been kind to the man, congratulating him after successful missions, acknowledging his talents and whatnot. He's a good boss, he appreciates when his men are doing good, but Andrei has always been special.

So to change things up a little, he stops doing that. Even puts a little distance. To an outsider it seems like nothing's changed, he's their same old leader, but to Andrei it makes a huge difference.

Because Makarov didn't simply just stop talking to him, but he instead went for someone else.

Andrei just stands there, watching Makarov praise another soldier right in front of him, talking so sweet to them, congratulating them for a job well done, and he's seething. He's never been a jealous man, at least that's what he thought until now, and at that moment he feels sick to his stomach.

And Makarov soon gets his answers when he reviews the next mission report to see that the man he chose as his victim was now KIA, placed on the most dangerous front of the mission by none other than Captain Andrei Nolan.

Homecoming (5x03) This particular scene feels like a colossal yet constrained Siegfied-has-an-epiphany moment. The man is his usual self up to the point where fiddling, nervous Mrs Hall hands him that telegram after she's been waiting for him to arrive home. Her tense breathing, stumbling over the words she's trying to express ("James and Helen are putting b... Jimmy to bed so you won't be disturbed"), more tense gasping. Him, completely preoccupied with the content of that telegram, still refusing to abandon etiquette ("Thank you, Mrs Hall"). Audrey clinging to hope for dear life after Siegfried reluctantly retreats to his study. The little pause right before he steps over the threshold is so weighty - the dread he must have experienced was too much to bear. The slow-motion, his deep sigh and then the shot of Audrey pacing up and down that hallway. Her little halt in front of the door to his study (pausing seems to be their thing...). It's all so boundlessly revealing. She does not want to intrude, knock on his door. Instead, she turns around but instantly stops in her tracks and wordlessly pleads to be informed when he opens that door. Her covering her mouth with her hand; him unmistakably wanting to share the news with her, knowing how distraught she is. "He's coming home." Another rather long pause and then... elation. His massive smile, her RUNNING towards him. It's all so them and so breathtaking. I love how he immediately and without hesitation hands her the telegram. The like-mindedness, equality and sheer love between them are soothingly tangible. No hiding behind fear of getting too close, no cultural boundaries. All gone. Just intimacy, fondness, and trust. The LOOK Siegfried gives her after she sensibly asks "That's it?" is off the charts gorgeous. This is the moment he knows for certain that he wants to share his life with her from this day forward. I'm positively sure of it. Contemplation, adoration, tenderness, decisiveness: "This is my future wife.” It’s all right there on his face. As soon as the weight of not-knowing about Tristan's safety has been lifted off his shoulders the epiphany commences. Now follow up on it, man. Spit-spot.

Good luck fighting him on this one, Marty. He’s a dad now. He’s used to putting stubborn kids to bed. Not pictured (because I’m lazy and didn’t wanna pose that many ppl-) is 1931 Doc and 1955 Doc standing around a shattered beaker, multiple piles of flaming…something (paper, gel, idk), and a still lit Bunsen burner. You can kinda guess what happened from there-

Doc (present 1986): Everything is fine, Marty, now go lay back down- 😅

Marty: But you’re literally-

Doc: I know.

Marty: And-

Doc: Back to bed.

This will be the vicious cycle that will repeat at least twice more before Marty gets a decent amount of sleep (which is thanks to Einstein finding the chaos and laying with the poor kid like the amazing dog he is) And yes, 1986 present Doc is the best at getting the stubborn teen to sleep because of his acquired dad skills, but that doesn’t mean the other Emmetts aren’t just as capable. 1955 Doc has had to get Marty to sleep multiple times during his week there, 2015 Doc is no different, and 1931 Emmett literally let Marty sleep in during the game because he seemed really tired so what makes you think he won’t find a way to help his friend sleep?? Marty is going to rest whether he likes it or not. This is not a question, but a fact.

I’ve been playing with other characters in my mind as well, because it won’t just be Marty forever. I think Jennifer gets dragged in when they remember Marty’s parents, and she’s called in to come grab him. Speaking of George and Lorraine, either they don’t find out at all or, if they’ve figured out time travel, they do and it’s chaotic. (If you wanna see how I think them finding out would go, there’s a link to my fic on @squoosh-the-floof-writes It’s called The Truth About Time Travel do read it) Then ofc there’s Clara and the boys. Clara stumbles in first, which is nothing short of entertaining as she somehow manages to effortlessly contain the chaos (“I know how your brain works, Emmett. This is just that times four”) The boys don’t bump into all of them at first, but rather I think they meet 1931 Doc first which is just all sorts of funny. Anyway more to come from this
