One Piece Chapter 1112 - Initial Thoughts

3 Long Long Weeks

But finally we have returned, One Piece is back and the chaos resumes!

I'm glad Oda of course got to rest, but these weeks have been rough without it, so I'm eager to jump back into Egghead.

I feel like it bodes poorly for her, with Lucci still moving and all, but Kaku asks whether she just got abandoned

Interesting though that Kaku didn't know it was Mars, given how Lucci did

Mars finds a transponder snail with a minute of time remaining too, it all looks dire

It looks dire, but something tells me there's a switch coming.

Saturn will likely be confronted by the returning Zoro and Jinbe, though I'd like to see Usopp, Nami and Brook put up a fight. V. Nusjuro will likely be a Sanji opponent methinks, though he's built to be a Zoro opponent I think the alternation makes sense there. Either way due to immortality the Straw Hats can't win, there has to be a secondary clutch action in order to trigger an escape, the Iron Giant is one thing probably on the ground level but perhaps whatever Edison plans is a second?

It was good to see Robin and Stussy again, and the latter actually doing something even though I'm 90% certain Lucci's gonna jump her at the worst moment. I still hope for a Kaku face turn again but we'll see, him being moved likely means the other CP agents and Seraphim could've been moved too, spared from the wreckage. Also proud that Franky one-shotted a vice admiral because yes, that should be how a Yonko crewmember would deal with it!

As for the transponder, I don't think that's where Punk put it, it's a feint, an inconspicuous decoy that will undercut the Gorosei's believed victory in the moment, pride comes before the fall after all and the narcissism on these dicks is outstanding.

Interestingly I don't know any other lingering factors that can come in clutch, unless the Grand Fleet are gonna pop out; Doll and Bluegrass are still circling the island so something will likely happen there, the Seraphim are at the mercy of the chain of command, so it's getting to the make or break part of the arc before the grand escape.

Queen Elizabeth II has died

Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’ s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death on 8 September 2022. 

Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the second longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country.

Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth). Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII, making Elizabeth the heir presumptive.

She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, and their marriage lasted 73 years until his death in April 2021. They had four children together: Charles III; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth. She faced occasional republican sentiment and media criticism of her family, particularly after the breakdowns of her children's marriages, her annus horribilis in 1992, and the death of her former daughter-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997.

However, support for the monarchy in the United Kingdom remained consistently high, as did her personal popularity. Elizabeth died on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire.

A Royal Bond

In the heart of England, amidst the grandeur of Buckingham Palace, lived a princess unlike any other. Princess Seraphina, a descendant of a long line of royals, possessed a unique and powerful gift - the ability to see the future through vivid premonitions. And so, in the world of vampires, where premonitions met immortality, Princess Seraphina, and the Volturi kings found their eternal love, ensuring a peaceful future for all of their kind.

Drinking was the only way to get through the day, most of the time. Jonah functioned with a buzz most days, something to dull the ache, something to make looking at Iris sweating in the kitchen, bags under her eyes as she slaves away because of him. Something to make it bearable as he watches her dancing with Reyansh, knowing he’ll never hold her like that again. It’s the only way he can suffer through life knowing Jessica is dead just for being his wife. 

Knowing all the women and men he’s loved are dead. Not all were his fault, but even if they weren’t… he felt like everything he touches burned down.

Knowing nearly everyone he’s loved even non romantically was dead, and that just meant Iris and Rey were next.

Knowing once Iris is dead, there was no reason for him to be alive.

“Jonah” Santiago walked into his room without knocking. Jonah wasn’t allowed locks. 

Jonah rolled his eyes before rolling over. He didn’t like Santiago. Hated him. Yeah, honestly, the fact he was a sniveling little psychopath brat was his fault, seeing as he was the main male figure in his life. Jonah probably fucked up that chubby little toddler too. 

“What?” No need for niceties and formalities. Jonah has known Santiago and Frankie since before they could talk.

“We found our madonna. You gotta bring her here tomorrow for the wedding.”

Jonah rubbed his eyes. “What the hell is a madonna?” Grunting, he began to sit up. He couldn’t keep up with this bullshit anymore, Beatriz liked to change things.

“The madonna.” He said, as if it was obvious. “She’s gonna marry us, give birth to the savior?” Nothing.

“What the fuck is a savior?”

Santiago groaned, rolling his eyes. “The one mighty and strong? Savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?”

“Santi what the fuck are you talking about?”

“Jonah.”

“Oooohhhh” Jonah said with a sarcastic edge, rubbing his bleary eyes. “I thought you were supposed to be the messiah.”

Santi shot him a look so dirty Jonah wondered if he’d take out his gun and shoot him for that, but Jonah wasn’t really sure he cared enough to try and stop it.

Instead, he continued. “The savior.” He corrected sharply. “And I think you’re well aware of our doctrine, seeing as you spent more time with my mother than I did.”

“Your mom kept me a little too busy to worry much about theology.”

Santiago stared at him for a long time after that. “You know, I don't really know why I kept you around. I could’ve just burned you alongside Marcus.”

“Probably should’ve.” He thought about it sometimes. Would’ve been easier. Sometimes, Jonah wished he would’ve died right there with his friend instead of drinking himself to death, wallowing in his guilt every day. But, as always, Santiago was quick to remind him why he couldn’t just swallow the barrel of a gun.

Bent over, hands on his knees, Santi got to Jonah’s eye level. “But then who would be here to protect Iris? It’d be a shame if she had to suffer more for the sins of her father.”

As good a threat as Jonah’s ever heard. He sighed. “Who's the lucky lady?”

And then Santiago said her name, and Jonah’s blood ran cold, more sober than he’d been in a week.

“You know her?” Santiago asked, and Jonah couldn’t tell if he was taunting him or not. “Marcus’s kid?”

“Yes, I’m familiar.” He was more than familiar. He’d been following her life as closely as he could while remaining discreet. It was the least he could do after Marcus took the fall. He’d watched he grow from a traumatized 12 year old forced to dance as her father burned to death next to her, to a shy, reverent, respectful young woman of 22 years. Jonah couldn’t say she’d adjusted well; she was nervous, jerky movements and startling at loud noises, she didn’t have a single friend. From what he knew of her prior to the uprising, she was an awkward child already: inward, quiet, thoughtful. Social interactions didn’t come easy to her, but she was devout and had a talent in painting at a young age. The few friends she had were gone when her father was outed as a traitor, and for 10 years she was estranged from her community. 

Now, she was about to be thrust into one of the most powerful roles there was for women.

“Yeah, I’m familiar… what exactly is she doing?”

Santi explained it all, how she was to be married to all of them, pregnant with their child, be the Madonna, the mother (but not the Divine Mother, he clarified).

Married to all 4 of them, each with their own issued a girl as sensitive as her would suffer with.

Santiago and his constantly changing moods, the flashed of fire and rage and unpredictable cold.

Will with his charm, his golden tongue, his ability to talk you out of the good and into the bad that serves him.

Ben and his addictions: alcoholism, coke and a fuck ton of sex with everyone he could get his hands on, despite breaking Frankie’s heart.

And Frankie…

Frankie was softer, kind, a lover at heart caught in a love triangle he never wanted. Francisco was a broken down man, and a girl as gentle and devoted to her gods as she was would give every piece of herself to fill the cracks.

“Think you can handle it?” Santi asked, jerking him out of his thoughts.

“Yeah, whatever” Jonah took out his bottle again, taking multiple big chugs to numb that growing panic. He’d done everything he could to keep her under the radar for Marcus and yet he was the one taking her right into the den of vipers.

Santi mumbled a swear. “Just have her at the house by 2 pm for Iris to dress her and help her get her thing in the carriage.” He almost left, walking out the door before turning around. “Lay one single hand on her, and I’ll throw Iris to Ben, got it?”

Jonah couldn’t help but glare at the younger man. “She’s 30 years younger than me, Santiago. That’s disgusting.”

Santi shrugged. “She’s about the same age Delilah was.” And walked off.

He knew that’d shut Jonah up.

World spinning, Jonah laid back down and rubbed his eyes, trying to fight back tears of frustration. He was failing, constantly. He failed Jessica, Delilah, Marcus, Iris and now he would literally be walking the only thing left of Marcus, and innocent child, traumatized and desperate for affection that was stripped away from her at a young age. She ripe for the picking, ready to do anything to feel loved.

Anger at himself only growing, Jonah’s feet kick as he growled and pulled on his hair. He was a fucking failure of a father, husband and friend. Everyone he loved would be dead, including his daughter, the one who mattered most and was suffering because of him. She deserved different. She deserved better. Better than him. She deserved a happy life with Reyansh and he ruined all prospects of that for her and she would die miserable and hating him just like everyone else. 

“You’re fucking pathetic.” He announced to himself, glancing over to see himself in the mirror. Had he always looked this old? No… no he had some good years left in him still… he had to get his shit together. 

Marcus would absolutely never, ever just lay down and drink himself to death. He wouldn’t just wallow in his fucking misery. Marcus would fight for change every chance he had, and Marcus would never in a million years have just taken Iris to this fucking house left her. He’d have protected Iris like she was his own.

Jonah sat up and stumbled to the mirror. He looked fucking awful. Uncombed hair and a gray beard, looking like he hasn’t slept in years. He had to fucking pull himself together. He had to help Marcus’s kid survive the whirlwind she was walking into. 

He needed to fucking shave.

Iris heard a crash from her dads room. She almost didn’t go investigate; she wanted to sleep. But then she heard the sound of vomiting, and as much as she wanted to have as little involvement in her fathers binge drinking, fucking, moping around, she couldn’t let it go.

“Jonah?” She called, walking into his room. At first Iris didn’t see him, but then she saw two legs sticking out of the bathroom. Walking over, she found him propped up against the tub that had puke in it and blood on his face. He was gripping a razor. “Dad!” Iris ran to him, taking the razor out of his hand. He was too drunk to behandling that. 

“I’m-” Hickup. “Fine, honey.”

“Why are you bleeding!”

“I was trying to shave.” Jonah’s words were slurred, head bobbing a bit as he chuckled. “It didn’t go well.”

Iris closed her eyes and sighed. For a moment, she had thought he was trying to hurt himself, leaving her behind like the coward he was… No, he was just shaving. Once again, she wanted to walk away, go find Rey and spend her limited freetime with her lover… but fuck, he locked pathetic like this. Half his beard shaved off, bleeding, puke on his lips and about ready to pass out. 

“C’mon, up” Iris assisted her dad in standing long enough to sit on the toilet where she cleaned off his face and rinsed the puke down the drain. Then, she covered his face in shaving cream. Careful of his fresh cut, which wasn’t all that deep, Iris bent over Jonah and carefully shaved his face, her non dominant hand tenderly holding him still. She tried not to look at him, looking up at her with his sad brown eyes. She didn’t want to feel more sorry for him than she already did. She was supposed to be angry.

After patting his face dry, Iris slung his arm over her shoulder and walked Jonah to bed.

“I don’t deserve you.” He mumbled as she pulled the blanket over him. 

She wanted to say no, you don’t. You were never there for me. You never put me first. You didn’t protect me . But that would get them nowhere.

“Go to sleep. We got a busy day tomorrow.”

 He started snoring almost immediately. Iris bent over and kissed his cheek.

This led Marcus to start pushing his son away as he didn’t want to get attached enough that it would hurt to remember losing her all over again and hating Johnny’s resemblance to his mum as it made him think he was going to lose Johnny too. 

Johnny never understood why his dad suddenly seemed to hate being around him and blamed himself, distancing himself from his father as the man started to try to make him more like himself which Johnny hated and took as a sign that his dad didn’t like him for who he was.

They fought a bit about the gang and robberies at the start but it mostly had stopped until Marcus kept trying to get Johnny involved and Johnny wanted nothing to do with it.

Alas, Vegapunk doesn't know why the nations were in conflict, just that it was a clash of ideologies, likely control vs freedom, but he chooses not to judge the morality

Still, she marvels at Vegapunk noting how Joy Boy's kingdom was advanced beyond even modern science

Back to V. Nusjuro and Bonney kicks at the Gorosei as he seems to cut Oimo

Not a good landing for Sanji either

Seems V. Nusjuro's not paying full attention to the fight either, trying to use his Observation Haki to sense where the broadcast snail is

Still, he breaks free and slices at Bonney, only for her to be saved by Franky

The slash cuts the figurehead of the giant's ship, better that than Bonney's head, but now she's tuckered out since Distorted Future takes up stamina

As V. Nusjuro leaves the battle and we pan to Zunesha and the Iron Giant we confirm that the void century ended with Joy Boy's defeat

It's not the biggest revelation since the WG rule the world after all, but it also puts further context into all the regrets with Joy Boy and his comrades we have read about in the past

To limit the amount of life signs on the island, V. Nusjuro takes more drastic action, cutting the entire Labophase in half

This causes the CP agents and the bubbled Seraphim to fall to the Fabriophase below

As the Gorosei let gravity try to take those who swore loyalty to them, Vegapunk makes the latest revelation

Sea travel is perilous around the world, it's common knowledge, but a millenia ago it was not; the ancient world, the civilizations that existed in the void century, it's all underwater - they built on top of the ancient world

Also I gotta point out there's some absolutely stunning visual panels in this chapter

Koushiro and the Revolutionary Army also react to the broadcast, only he, Sabo and Dragon appear pensive

Coco Village!? Gen san how you doing! And Nojiko! Still preferred the short hair but she don't care about no global warming she has tangerines to look after XD

Vegapunk continues; before there were vast continents, which'd explain why so few would go out to sea beforehand, and with all of the evidence underwater it explains how the WG can erase a century of history, but it goes deeper - figuratively and literally

Since the void century, the sea has rose 200 METERS!

That's over 600ft; the size of the United Tower, bigger than the Great pyramid of Giza, and that's all Water Level

Naturally, the listeners - the navy - are floored by this revelation, since a Warship is only 60m, but other soldiers tell them to stop listening

There's at least some sense of loyalty - or preservation of cost - for the marines to try and 'rescue' the CP agents and Seraphim from gravity-induced splatter, a la one of their world leaders

Alas Mock Town must mock, there is one among the crowd who isn't laughing though, another one seems to have ignored gravity

Sakura kingdom - mainly Dalton - reflects on the revelation, with Kureha mulling how things continue to get interesting

At Water Seven (given the Galley La jacket) Vegapunk discusses how such a thing can occur, and reveals it to have been man-made

Morgans is livid about all this BIG ASS NEWS, having to be shushed by Vivi

Vegapunk continues to show his work; there were no signs, no studies, no science to confirm a natural build up, and if it was natural it would've been made known as a world-altering event

He hints at the use of the Mother Flame, confirming his suspicions

The Gorosei - except Ju Peter, wormy is not getting a lot of love from Oda atm - look furious as Vegapunk continues to note that the sea level rises were caused by the ancient weapons

Those weapons remain dormant, waiting to be used again

And as we pan over to Imu Vegapunk reveals something both horrifying and sobering at the same time: The War Is Not Over

But time didn't have the influence it should have, Oda has been getting biblical with this lore drop by giving us the common religious theme of The Deluge. Flood myths exist in many religious stories and mythology (which I will keep separate to not ruffle feathers), most common because of Christianity is the flood in the Book of Genesis, which we've already touched upon in One Piece given Noah's Ark. Since we tread nearer to Elbaf it's worth noting that a flood as a role in Ragnarok also;

"the sun becomes black and the earth sinks into the sea, the stars vanish, steam rises and flames touch the heavens."

Once more this was a chapter where Vegapunk's broadcast takes more priority over the things we're seeing, but there are some stunning panels to enhance the revelations, we see also the Gorosei flaunting their haki showing the level they are while the monster trio remain incapacitated or indisposed. I'm at least proud of Franky coming in for some more rescue clutch action, but with Stussy I'm less convinced now that she'll be killed by Lucci, Kaku's silence is loud and maybe, just maybe, they can all see this as a way out. The CP agents are likely not to survive the fall, the Seraphim will and probably will live to fight the Straw Hats under orders of the Gorosei or York, they will likely be used more since the Pacifista are compromised. As for the revelations, a mix of stuff we assumed being confirmed and stuff that theorists have pondered and been vindicated, it's all underwater, which explains the walls in Wano, why Zou is on Zunesha's back (sidebar, how fucking long are Zunesha's legs? like it's gotta be 200m+ submerged alone), and why Water Seven's ruins run so deep.

Still, I enjoyed all the cameos, appreciated seeing Carrot again, and a Vivi cameo is always nice, plus I had to laugh with Demaro Black and Foxy, like who's next? Kuro? Morgan? Krieg? Arlong? Enel?? We have to get to Buggy and the Cross Guild at one point ofc, plus this could be an avenue to reveal the status of Perona, Moria, Weevil, etc.

but outside of that, little progress from the Straw Hats and the incident unfolding in Egghead right now, but given the revelations Vegapunk is giving the Straw Hats time, the Gorosei aren't focusing on them, they're looking for the broadcast snail - and I don't think it's even on the island.

Will you be at home for Christmas, Sir?

This Christmas will be a little quieter than last year.

The farm should have enough staff to cover the holiday season, so I will be staying at my Kent residence. Master James, Houseboy Marcus and I (and the dogs) will be having Christmas dinner with my neighbours Georgina and Simon. They only moved to the area about a year ago, but I met both of them independently before that. Georgie used to work at Buckingham Palace, and Simon is an aircraft technician who I encountered when he was training at BAE Systems.

For Boxing Day, I have sent open invitations to family, friends and neighbours to join me for drinks and a buffet lunch at my haunted house. I am not sure how many will turn up... My stockbroker cousins can not resist a freebie and, hopefully Uncle Charlie will be well enough to make the journey from Petworth.

Houseboy Scott is spending Christmas and New Year with his mother in Liverpool. (I think I can trust him not to fall back into his old ways... He knows what the consequences will be if he does!)

Houseboy Marcus is feeling very homesick right now. It is three years since he last visited his family in Romania. He will be on equal terms with me as a guest on Christmas Day, but he will be in charge of the catering on Boxing Day, assisted by his friend Hairy Harry.

Knights of Queen Headcanons

Headcanons for my favourite team ! And also to celebrate my Edgar cosplay that I wore for the first time today !

-All of them were trained to be real knights by their coach Aaron Adams. The best of the best are the ones that would still represent England as adults. (Johnny, David, Lance, Edge, Peter, Gary, Paul, Éric, Edgar, Philip, Servilius, Nick and Mikey (so yeah most of them)).

-They may have lost most of their matches in Season 3, but they managed to win every match for the qualifications.

-Johnny hates losing to a point where he needs to flip or break something to calm his nerves.

-David and Peter are the only ones that can use weapons such as guns and riffles.

-If Edgar is not on the field (mostly due to injuries), the secondary captain is Lance Ralton.

-Edge Ripper is a Strandead ; he died when he was younger but he came back as the one he looks now. The others know about that so they believe in Strandeads and they can convince others that they are not that scary for some nor violent.

-A lot of their supporters actually worships Edge for this reason and his talent for heavy metal. Even Elieth (future member and Edgar’s future girlfriend) will also grow found of heavy metal (even their future daughter !).

-All of them are great at music, dancing and singing.

-If you wanna know about technological stuff, Peter Coole is your man.

-Gary and Philip often cook together for their teammates, and they love to teach the others some new recipes.

-Ironically, when he joined the team, Gary was a reserved guy. He was even a bit rude and careless, but with the help of his team, it was easier for him to get closer to people.

-The reason Paul’s friends decided to disband their group is because they got jealous that their little guy friend Paul was called to represent England’s team. In other words, they are jealous (Pretty bad friends, hey ? But don’t worry he got new ones that are a 100% better !).

-Paul and Éric immediately fell in love with each other, but they were too shy (and a bit embarrassed to admit it). They were keeping their relationship secret.

-Both David and Éric hates naïve people.

-After Éric gave up on tennis due to an arm injury, he goes into football. But after the FFI, he wanted to go back to tennis but he also wanted to keep playing football, so his teammates and their coach helped him pay an operation to implant an arm prosthesis so he could play tennis. It is slightly visible on the outside, but he doesn’t mind, because thanks to that, he can enjoy playing tennis again. He will even win Wimbledon when he wasn’t even an adult yet !

-Edgar’s bravery and sereine demeanor is an example to all of his teammates. He is able to calm everyone down, even Johnny.

-They all have at least one middle name, some of them even have two :

-According to the team, Philip is slightly faster than Edgar.

-When Freddy was the keeper, Servilius was often in the bench. He was observing his teammates, to a point when he secretly manage to learn Excalibur as he wanted to be stronger and more useful to the team. He still prefers to be a goalkeeper, but he can go on the attack. He already surprised everyone by joining in the middle of the match to strike a goal (so yeah, pretty much like Mark Evans).

-Despite being a teenager, Servilius is already a wonderful butler, better than most adults.

-Nick is learning tricks and witchcraft so he could one day accomplish his dream of opening a sorcerer school.

-Mikey absolutely adore creating new clothes that fit his teammates’ personalities. So yeah, a lot of their newly designed clothes are made by Mikey Richards.

The phrase 'discover your strengths' was made famous by researcher Marcus Buckingham in the 'Strengths Movement'. It calls us to stop focusing on our weaknesses and name and develop our strengths - which reflects God's design.

The Bible speaks of going 'from strength to strength' (Psalm 84:7 NIV). And a strength is an activity which, when you engage in it, makes you feel strong. Certain activities will thrill and challenge you; others will bore and drain you. Once you discover this, you're not simply engaged in 'career planning', you're acknowledging God's handiwork and your own core strengths. It matters that you do this, because the single little patch of creation you're responsible for stewarding is your own life. Dorothy Sayers said: 'Work is not, primarily, a thing one does to live, but the thing one lives to do. It is, or it should be, the full expression of the worker's faculties, the thing in which he finds spiritual, mental and bodily satisfaction, and the medium in which he offers himself to God.'

What if your job doesn't fulfil your need for purpose or utilise your God-given gifts? Sometimes necessity requires that. That's why the Bible says, 'Whatever you do, do well' (Ecclesiastes 9:10 NLT). In the meantime, pray for opportunity, prepare yourself, and volunteer in an area that utilises your strengths. Sometimes people who don't enjoy the work they do are miserable, and they make everybody around them miserable too. But God expects better from you!

In the real world, there is work. In the theory world, there are goals.

“Cascade meaning through our expressed values, rituals, and stories… We should let our people know what’s going on in the world, and which hill we’re trying to take, and then we should trust them to figure out how to make a contribution.”

Lie #4: The best people are well-rounded

Competencies are impossible to measure.

Excellence is idiosyncratic.

Lie #5: People need feedback

Truth: People need attention

Ignoring a team led to 1:20 ratio of engaged:disengaged

Negative feedback (focus on fixing shortcomings) led to 2:1 ratio of engaged:disengaged (40x improvement to ignoring)

Positive feedback (attention toward what employees do best) led to 60:1 engaged:disengaged (30x improvement to negative feedback)

Feedback is a kind of attention

fMRI scans show that negative feedback triggers fight or flight and impairs learning.

Tell the person what you experienced when they had a moment of excellence. What you saw, and then:

How it made you feel, or

What it made you think, or

What it caused you to realize, or

How and where you will now rely on them

Lie #6: People can reliably rate other people

Truth: People can reliably rate their own experience

“Running out of 4s,” forcing the curve

In order to add precision to Potential and Performance, orgs create lists of competencies…

But it doesn’t work. Adding performance review training doesn’t help. 54% of variation in people’s scores can be explained by the personality of the rater (Idiosyncratic Rater Effect).

Recommendation: ask questions that produce data that are Reliable, Variable, and Valid. Good questions generate a bell curve of responses. Bias is inevitable so we’re best off framing questions around the rater’s personal experience of working with someone.

Do you always go to this team member when you need extraordinary results?

Do you choose to work with this team member as much as possible?

Would you promote this person today if you could?

Do you think this person has a performance problem that you need to address immediately?

Truly people-maximizing exercise:

What’s your actual dream job, irrespective of company, industry, or line of work?

Find that job on LinkedIn. Look at the skills/experiences/qualifications listed. Figure out the gap. Make those skills/experiences/etc part of your current job.

Lie #8: Work-life balance matters most

Truth: Love-in-work is what matters most

List which parts of your work fall into “loved it” vs “loathed it”

Follow the red threads, weave them into your work. The “loved it” bits are your strengths.

Lie #9: Leadership is a thing

Truth: We follow spikes

The leaders we love don’t actually exhibit a list of leadership qualities.

You can’t practice the qualities (inspirational, visionary, strategic, good at execution, good at decision-making, innovation, executive presence, etc.) and thereby grow your leadership.

No two leaders create followers in the same way. We follow a leader because they are deep in something.
