I usually don't read m/m romances because the ones I've come across feel like reading icky cis het romances written in the 1980s with lousy plot development and annoying characters.

I was compelled to read Mo Dao Zu Shi (Demonic Cultivation Grandmaster) because a lot of the fandom stuff enters my Tumblr feed. I was intrigued that a 5 years old show still had a lot of diverse and stimulating fanworks on it.

Now I get why so many people love the story so much. It's one of the best I've read on devotion and unconditional love set in action adventure fantasy. It doesn't bear much resemblance to cis het romances and is refreshing in the way it approaches what it takes to love someone who is diametrically different from you.
