Aaron Minyard, in the experiences of my Med School roommate--Pt 2

My roommate actually had a class session on bedside manner and how to not laugh at funny/stupid situation.

One of the Foxes get hurt, and while someone else is off to get Abby, he slips into Doctor Mode.

He's nice, calm, patient, and does his best to make sure they are comfortable as he assesses the situation.

Everyone is stunned into silence because that can not be Aaron Minyard. Dr. Minyard is so wildly different then what the Foxes know him as and its such a shock to everyone (except Abby who's seen it before). Once the shock wears off, they immediately start roasting him for 7-10 business days.

*Aaron bumps into the counter as he tried to turn around it*

Neil: You're okay, Aaron. It's just a bump. Here have some water.

*Aaron gets checked at practice and falls down*

Nicky: Give him some room to breathe! *crouches down next to him* hey, buddy. Where does it hurt?

Allison *who's been waiting for this*: Oh no. Don't worry, kid, I've got you covered. *drops boxes of cough drops, cold and flu medication, allergy relief pills, etc in his lap*

Allison: Is there anything else I can do for you? What do you need?

Kevin *immediately down helping him up*: Andrew, I'm going to need a cushion. Neil, get me some ice. Nicky, Tylenol.

the foxes : random headcanons (because i need to let it all out somewhere)

• Renee & Matt are both huge fans of atla and the pjo series. Dan likes it as well but not as much as they do. They also tried to convince Allison to watch it with them and despite saying it’s “not her thing” she really likes it.

• Renee keeps her own garden. Mostly plants and flowers though. She tries for some veggies as well but they never grow right

• At some point, Andrew would stop smoking completely. The withdrawals are crazy and he’s cranky as hell through the whole thing but yeah.

• Renee would definitely love visiting churches and cathedrals in different countries. Not only cuz she’s religious but also because she loves the architecture and art a lot.

• also also Renee would keep the coolest looking patterned stuff. Fox shaped & cat paw carved ceramic mugs, knitted sweaters with a lot of patchworks and so on.

• Renee taught Neil ASL. For no particular reason just that it’s a good thing to know. After that she also tried teaching some of the other foxes but mostly just the basics.

• Kind of surprise to everyone, Aaron would be really good at chess. Neil and Matt on the other hand… very much not. He sometimes has chess matches with Kevin but Kev always loses which genuinely drives him mad.

• Aaron knows latin- not just the medical terms that med students have to know but like the language. So you bet that whenever someone gets him angry he starts to yap at them in latin just to make a point of some sort.

• Andrew would like those old/retro gameboys

• Andrew always beats everyone in mario kart with Nicky often being either close second or complete last - no in between.

• Nicky is the #1 pancake maker. He was kind of awful at it at first but after many many tries he perfected it for the twins

• Kev is also the #1 cook in healthy but completely flavourless prison-looking meals (though it is not his fault. i blame the nest.)

• if the foxes would ever have escape room night best believe Neil would be the first to figure it out and in record time as well.

• Kevin is a mosquito magnet and won’t stop complaining about it…like ever. (had to google synonym for bitching btw)

• to fight off the “eboy Andrew” allegations im fighting back with “absolute loser Andrew” where he wears too big sweaters, reading glasses, has crooked teeth, and searches through different cryptid or internet mysteries- related sites for too long (…projecting but still)

• Neil hates coffee. his favorite tea is peppermint or earl grey.

• the monsters watch cartoons in the morning if they don’t have classes i said what i said

• Neil definitely got into photography (or sketching or both) at some point. there is just something so symbolic about that i just can’t wire up my brain rn to figure out why.

• Kevin listens to podcasts instead of music while working out because he is simply that type. sigh

my personal aftg headcannons as an athlete

neil suffers from chronic shin splints, since we never see this boy change into running shoes, (and even if he did they’d probably be years old and be hanging on by a thread) i like to think that his shins are just constantly in pain

aaron, being a med student, is probably the first person the foxes go to when something hurts. aaron likes to pretend that he doesn’t care about their aches but occasionally he’ll recommend specific stretches to some of them. “hey my knee has rlly been hurting when i run” -“wtf do you want me to do about that…try stretching your hamstrings befor complaining”

dan carries multiple rollers in her practice bag. at first it was just for her but then the girls would occasionally borrow it, and then matt, then the monsters made themselves welcome to using it so she started carrying multiple for them all to use at the same time.

allison probably has some rlly expensive massage guns for the same reason as dan but she denies that she was thinking about the rest of the team when she bought them all

renee, aaron, nicky, dan, and matt are all bio freeze people and neil, kevin, andrew, and allison are all icy hot for life

the one time nicky used icy hot he thought it was just supposed to get cold like bio freeze and so he thought he was having an allergic reaction when it started burning

renee is the designated kt-tape person when abby isn’t around since she’s the only one that can apply it good enough that it will last a week and properly work

renee and allison will either do matching french braids or bubble braids for games and they take turns braiding each others hair

the foxes convinced wymack and abby to host team pasta dinners the night before home games so the they can get in their carb load in and have a “team bonding activity”

Skater boy Aaron is real and true and canon (to me at least)

He is the poster boy for the early 2000s skater aesthetic

Part of the reason he continues skating in college is because he enjoys the heart attack it gives Kevin

Kevin doesn’t want him getting hurt and jeopardizing the team and his wellbeing

So Aaron makes sure he finds time to skate everyday

Aaron is a lover of pop culture and is just a fucking nerd dude

He loves Lord of the Rings and read Harry Potter as it came out (and also very actively hates JKR in the modern day)

Aaron Minyard is a chronic migraine girly

He’s a med student and athlete who gets very little sleep so his head constantly hurts

And yaknow what he’s a little bitch about it too

He is constantly complaining to Katelyn and using it as an excuse to be an asshole

(I love him so dearly)

I also think he is constantly cold and has terrible blood circulation

His hands and feet are always freezing

Years of drug use and constantly needing to take Advil for his headaches has just shot his cardiovascular system

So he’s constantly cold and doesn’t run a lot because his stamina is shit

He has a raging addiction to caffeine and his vice is RedBulls

His sleep schedule is absolutely wrecked from both Exy and school so he’s rarely ever without a RedBull in hand

I don’t think he cares a lot about his diet but he does try to keep it pretty nutrient packed bc he knows the benefits of it

But he also has a sweet tooth (not as strong as Andrew’s but still strong) and he favors baked goods like cake and banana bread and pastries

His vision is bad and it just keeps getting worse over the years but he doesn’t wear his glasses often

He usually resorts to contacts but has to switch to his glasses late at night or when his head is hurting extra bad

OKAY KEVIN FUCKING DAY

He loves tea

Like has an extensive tea collection and will spend the money to buy teas from around the world

He also has a mug collection (the Foxes start gifting him mugs every holiday when they find out about it)

His favorite mugs are his vintage Trojans mug, a “history is not boring” mug the Foxes gave him when he graduated, and a Hogwarts mug Aaron gave him

(they read the series together :P)

Kevin’s favorite areas of history to study are Ancient Rome and the history of Ireland

He’s fascinated by the Roman Empire and studying Ireland makes him feel more connected to his mother

I think he continues school on the side and eventually gets a doctorate degree and teaches a bit after he retires from Exy

He always tries to sign with teams in or near the cities the other OG Foxes are in because he doesn’t really know how to function without the familiarity of his people

Kevin works a lot on undoing his Raven dietary habits and since he’s surrounded by people who can’t cook he grows a love for frozen food as well as caffeine

I think he takes a few art classes and really enjoys it even though he doesn’t think he’s that great at it

He’s actually not bad at all and makes a lot of really cool pieces

Kevin exclusively wears 5 inch inseam shorts

Anything longer is blasphemous

He has basically zero sense of style and just kind of mimics what the others are wearing

Until Allison forces him to go to the mall with her and they spend hours building him a real wardrobe that is him

Most of his closest still consists of PSU and USC merch though

And truly would this even be me if I didn’t put kevaaron headcanons? No

Kevin is basically a human radiator, especially after practice

And that is a blessing directly from God in Aaron’s eyes

Kevin comes back from night practice and Aaron just clings to him, absorbing all of his heat as they fall asleep

Aaron is a chronic clothes stealer like he just has sticky fingers when it comes to Kevin’s wardrobe

They spend a lot of time together in the library

They’re both in quite intensive and workload heavy majors so they study together a lot

It happened more as an accident tbh like Aaron was heading to the library to study for a midterm

And basically all of PSU’s student body had the same idea so there was no open tables

But low and behold there was Kevin, alone at a table tucked in the back corner, typing away at his laptop

Aaron joins him without asking and it kinda just becomes their thing

Kevin joins Aaron at the library between regular and night practices

They spend most of their weekends there and bring each other caffeinated drinks and snacks

Eventually they’re not even studying half the time, they’re just talking and spending time with each other outside of Exy and the other Foxes curious glances and prying comments

Aaron takes a history class with Kevin but Kevin refuses to take any science class outside of his required credits

He’s not a science person so Aaron doesn’t take it personally

Kevin can never properly wrap his head around how strong Aaron actually is

It just doesn’t compute for him, like how can so much strength be packed into such a small body

But he is most definitely not complaining, especially not when that strength is so clearly but on display or used against him

Kevin is practically drooling anytime he watches Aaron body check a striker twice his size and send them sprawling onto the floor

They become each others partners/marks during practices and it is simultaneously the best and worst thing to ever happen

They’re just excessively flirting while tripping each other and fighting with their racquets

The other Foxes comment on their “weird and disturbing foreplay” every chance they get

Yk, a lot of people think Adam is gay and Lawrence is bi, but I personally see it the other way around. You could definitely argue that Lawrence is bi bc of his relationship w Allison and whatever was going on w that med student, sure. But have we considered that maybe the reason he couldn’t have a fulfilling romantic/sexual relationship with either of these women is because he doesn’t like women and hadn’t yet come to terms with it? If Lawrence wasn’t satisfied in his relationship with Allison, it’d make sense if he tried turning to someone else only to find that she wasn’t what he was looking for either. Maybe that’s why he called it off, or maybe he just didn’t want to hurt Allison and his family. Either way, I still believe Lawrence loved Allison in his own way, and it’s been proven that he cared about both her and Diana very much. I just don’t think he was capable of loving her the way she wanted him to, or the way he felt he was supposed to.

Tbh I don’t think Allison would have much more skill when it comes to survival than Kevin or Nicky. I also think Neil and Andrew would decide to keep Aaron alive as long as possible and they would say it was for his med student knowledge but they’d both know it’s bc Aaron was never actually an option even hypothetically

truueee this is such a good point although for some reason i’m kind of convinced that Allison would adapt better to the outdoors than Kevin or Nicky. Andrew 100% would use the fact that Aaron is a med student as an excuse to keep him alive you’re so right. i think it would be a breaking point if they ever tried to eat Aaron. Andrew would try to separate the group

also i know this isn’t what you asked but if this were yellowjackets, Aaron would be Javi and Andrew would be Travis. which would make Neil Natalie LMAO somehow it totally works. and Kevin is Lottie bc he would inspire people to commit cannibalism, but he would also be Jackie bc he would get eaten first <3 (also Dan is Taissa and Matt is Van)

Hi Allison! I just came across your post about your frustrations regarding the s4 timeline (understandable 😅) and how you could make it work in LWH. Now i may have misunderstood your post entirely (sorry if that's the case) but i just wanted to tell you that if you're worried about wether the firefam getting fully vaccinated by the end of february (2021 i assume) is unrealistic then don't be! I mean i don't actually know how vaccinations were distributed in the USA but in my country the first people eligible for the vaccines were essential/healthcare workers (first responders included) and immunocompromised/chronically ill people. I just checked my vaccination history and i was actually fully vaccinated by the 4th of february (since the government promoted med students to emergency healthcare worker status in 2020 and i was working as a covid tester). So it is in fact not unrealistic (at least not by some weird small european country's standards lol).

Anyways i wish you all the inspiration and motivation for your writing, and all the tasty food and bright sunshine in your days! 💖

Thinking about the injuries Neil sustained at the hands of Lola/his father

TW: traumatic injury (burns), torture

Like burns are the most traumatic injury your body can sustain so imagine how damaging that would be?? I’ve seen a few fics where Neil loses feeling in his hands because of the burns and I totally agree with that. Especially with how cruel we know Lola was, she didn’t stop for anything. Neil’s skin was probably a lot more damaged than we were led to believe

(Especially since A) Neil is an unreliable narrator and B) he probably couldn’t process the pain after a while)

Okay so imagine Aaron, in all his holier-than-thou med student glory, knowing these things, and seeing Neil’s burns. I know Aaron is apathetic but if he has the compassion to be a doctor he has to have some sort of compassion for Neil, whether he hates him or not.

Imagine Abby knowing the full extent of the damage long before Neil does and not having the heart to tell him. Imagine her knowing when she wraps the burns on the very end of Neil’s fingers and he doesn’t even flinch. Imagine Neil only figuring it out sometime later when he breaks a knuckle and doesn’t feel a thing.

Imagine Neil begrudgingly, angrily, going to Aaron later that night and asking him what the hell he needs to do. Imagine Aaron throwing a cold pack at him and telling him he won’t ever regain feeling in his fingertips but he’ll be fine. Imagine Neil going up to the roof and Andrew not even lighting a cigarette because he knows Neil needs time to process this.

Imagine Neil pinching and pulling at the ends of his fingers as a nervous tick for years because he can’t feel much of anything. Imagine it gets frustrating. Imagine a breakdown one day after college from Neil to Andrew because he just wants to feel it when Andrew holds his hand.

Imagine Kevin getting it more than anyone thought, because his nerves were damaged when he broke his hand. Because he regained feeling eventually, but Neil never will. He ices Neil’s hands when it hurts and makes him take his Ibprofen and gets Jean to give Neil the “you’ll-never-get-better-of-you-don’t-try” talk over the phone in French when he doesn’t.

Imagine Andrew using matches for his cigs for the rest of his life because Neil can’t stand lighters. Andrew, not putting any candles on Neil’s birthday muffins (cause he’s a weirdo), always diligently checking the fire alarms to make sure they work in every home they live in.

Imagine it gets a little easier, but it’s always an obstacle Neil has to operate around when he joins pro teams. Imagine he draws over his scars sometimes when he’s bored. Imagine Allison drawing city skylines and jungles and snowflakes over his scars when she’s bored.

Just… i can’t stop thinking about it

Container of cut-up fruit cradled in one arm, he shoves the cranberry juice to the side and grabs the plastic container, handing it backwards without a word. There are leftover sausage links in here somewhere, he knows there are, because Scott had made way too many when he came over for breakfast on Sunday and they hadn’t managed to finish half their food. 

The hard slap of something hitting the cabinet distracts him from browsing through the vegetable drawer for the second time. “What?” he says, looking over his shoulder. 

Lydia’s shoving the milk carton into their recycling, scowl fixed firmly on her face. “If you’re not going to buy more when you’re finished with it the least you could do is tell me when it needs to be replaced.”

“I forgot, sorry. Maybe you should check before you go shopping,” he suggests, shrugging one shoulder before turning back to his search. 

“Maybe I should look? Maybe you should do your part in keeping a house running—”

“It’s just milk, Lydia, calm the fuck down about it—”

“It’s everything,” she says, so close to a shriek that it startles him into turning back to face her. “It’s the milk, the toothpaste, and laundry detergent. It’s constantly reminding you to take your meds, to eat, to bring your shit in from the car so it doesn’t get stolen. I’m your wife, Stiles, not your goddamn mother—”

“No, mine’s dead,” he snaps, turning away.

“Don’t you dare,” Lydia spits at him, and the next thing he hears is the sound of the front door slamming shut.

Allison [10:41pm]: Hey Stiles [10:41pm]: Is she there? Allison [10:42pm]: Yeah Allison [10:42pm]: I don’t want to be in the middle of this anymore Allison [10:42pm]: You guys need to figure something out Stiles [10:48pm]: I’m sorry

“—like, it’s milk, it’s not that big of a deal,” he says, and his dad lifts an eyebrow.

“It was just the milk?”

Stiles fidgets under the judgemental look he’s getting, fingers tapping the bench seat on either side of him as Surfin’ U.S.A. plays from the speakers overhead. “Just then,” he says. “I don’t remember shit like that, she knows it. She can’t let anything go.”

“Sounds like someone else I know.” His dad nods up at the waitress when their food is dropping off, quickly sliding curly fries from Stiles’ plate onto his own. “I don’t think this is what she meant in her vows when she said she’d take care of you.”

“You’re supposed to be on my side,” he complains, taking the pickle spear off his dad’s plate and biting down on it. “Not hers.”

“I’m not on anyone’s side.” 

“No, you’re on the side of we never should have gotten married in the first place,” Stiles says. He doesn’t say he’s starting to feel the same way. He digs into his burger, promising himself he’ll do better, if just to prove everyone wrong.

He doesn’t.

Neither does Lydia.

Everything only gets worse.

Stiles knows what the manila envelope sitting on the table is before he even opens it. Lydia looks tired sitting across from him, eyes red, not a trace of make-up on her typically immaculately made face. “Please don’t fight me on this,” she says. She sounds worn down, and he hates himself a little for it. “I told them just to split everything equally.”

Equal—it’s not equal. Stiles knows this; it’s the house her parents bought for them, it’s the debt from his student loans they wiped out. Stiles should be walking out of this with nothing and he knows it, but when he opens his mouth to point that out, she grabs his hand. “Please don’t. I’m so tired of fighting with you.”

He squeezes back, turns her hand so he can hold it properly, thumb brushing up against her diamond ring. “This really isn’t fair to you,” he says, and she shrugs. 

“Since when have we been fair to each other?”

It’s a good question; he doesn’t know the answer. Maybe everything would be different if they ever had been. “I still love you,” he tells her, rubbing at her ring again. He’s surprised to see it still on—he would have thought it would be the first thing to go.

“When my parents got divorced … my mom told me love wasn’t enough to keep a relationship going.” Lydia laughs weakly, sounding sad. “Guess I should have believed her.”

He signs the papers.

“I saw Lydia the other day,” Scott offers, hesitantly. “She asked how you were.”

He covers the way he pauses by pretending he’s trying to choose which slice to grab. “Yeah? She doing okay?”

Scott shrugs. “Allison said she’s doing better. I’ve never been able to figure out Lydia, you know that. She said to tell you hi.”

Stiles shoves a slice of pizza in his mouth so he doesn’t have to talk about it and bites down. “Movie or game?”

“Game, dude, I know your taste in movies.”

He doesn’t stop thinking about her, but they’ve had such a fragile peace in their limited interactions that it takes him hours to decide to send her a text.

It’s Lydia, of course. He takes a breath and blows it out his nose as he turns around, a small smile on his face as he takes her in. She’s wearing the green dress he loves, velvety soft and tight, hugging the curves of her body that he still knows so well. “Hey,” he says, and only hesitates a moment before he reaches out and pulls her into a hug. They’ve been officially divorced for a few hours now, and they may have been a disaster together but he still misses the comfort she used to bring him. “Out celebrating your first day of freedom?”

She looks up at him with such a familiar gaze that his heart aches. “Is that what you were doing?”

He’s going to say yes, because the truth is pathetic, but he’s got nothing left to lose, really. “More like mourning it.”

Her hand is on his chest, playing with the collar of his button down. “Yeah,” she says quietly. “Something like that.”

It’s probably a bad idea to kiss her back when she tilts his head down and fits their mouths together; he does it anyway.

“I don’t—” he says, sitting down heavily on the couch, hand reaching out for the knitted blanket he keeps hanging over the corner and grabbing at it for some sort of comfort. “That’s—we slept together one time in the last—and you’re—”

“Pregnant,” she says. She looks at him steadily, and when he really looks back he can see the facade of calm cracking. Her hands, holding her purse in her lap like a shield, are gripping the leather too tight. Her foot is bouncing arrhythmically, her breath coming too quick. 

He meets her gaze. “Okay,” he says, blowing out a breath. There are questions they’ll have to answer—hundreds of them, thousands of them—over the next few months, but there’s one that Stiles doesn’t need to ask at all. Divorced or not, he still knows Lydia. “Let’s do this, then. Together.”

This is my Ethan x Tobias x Allison love triangle hc:

Ethan and Tobias met Allison Wainwright at a bar Hopkins students frequented.

She’s also a 3rd year med student and they all hit it off right away.

She’s newly single but not looking to jump back into the dating pool so soon.

The more Ethan gets to know her the more he becomes infatuated. She’s charismatic, clever, and witty with a dry sense of humor.

He’s smitten, but he keeps that to himself. He’s never been one to divulge to anyone whenever he’s interested in someone.

It’s been a few months since their initial meeting, and she’s talked about being open to dating again. Although school has made it difficult to date anyone long-term, he’s willing to give it a try with Allison.

He’s planning on asking her out the day after Tobias’s birthday celebration.

It’s the day of the party. They’re at their favorite bar surrounded by their med school friends, Allison is amongst them.

They’re all having a good time. At one point Ethan makes his way to the bathroom when he sees Tobias at a dark corner of the bar making out with someone. Typical Tobias.

He’s about to continue on his way when the light hits the mysterious person’s face and he realizes it’s Allison.

His stomach drops. Well, there goes his chance. Ethan racks his brain, trying to recall Tobias making his interest in Allison known.

Tobias is a natural flirt and he’s made comments about how attractive Allison is, but he never thought anything of it because Tobias has been reluctant to get into relationships in the past. He prefers keeping things casual.

So now Ethan has to come to terms with the fact that his best friend is fooling around with the woman he’s besotted with.

He feels conflicted, but if they’re into each other he‘ll step back.

Tobias leaves the bar with Allison and doesn’t come home to his and Ethan’s shared apartment until later that afternoon.

When they run into each other they talk about their fun night, and Tobias is the first to bring her up.

The wistful smile on his face as he talks about her is all Ethan needs to know that he’s too late.

They’ve both fallen for the same woman.

Tobias and Allison begin dating shortly thereafter.

Ethan feels guilty for that pang of jealousy every time he sees them together.

He feels like a bad friend for wishing she’d flash him that tender smile.

He’s not in love with her, but he certainly cares about her. Knowing she’s with Tobias prevents his heart from falling too deep.

Several months go by. They’re now approaching their final year at JH.

Ethan dates around to get over her, but it’s difficult when she practically lives at the apartment now.

Tobias’s flirty ways return when she’s not around, however, and it irks Ethan more than anything.

He confronts him about it and asks him whether he’s serious about her bc if he isn’t he needs to stop wasting her time.

Tobias brushes it off and tells him not to worry.

“Your relationship is none of my business, but I won’t stand by watching you do anything to hurt her. She doesn’t deserve that.”

“Look, I’m new to this relationship shit. I know I’m not perfect. But it’s all just innocent flirting, all right?”

“If it’s so innocent why are you doing it behind her back?”

Tobias becomes annoyed and scoffs. “Okay, Dr. Relationship expert.” He air quotes. “I’ve had enough. I’ll be at the library. Or do you want to follow me there? Make sure I don’t cheat on my girlfriend?”

Ethan answers with nothing but a glare and Tobias leaves.

There’s tension in the air whenever they’re in a room together after that. They don’t hang out like they used to.

One day, Ethan comes home to find Allison alone in the apartment. Her eyes are puffy and red like she’s been crying.

He becomes concerned and sits down on the couch next to her and asks her what’s wrong.

She confides in him that she feels like Tobias is growing distant. He rarely takes her out on dates anymore and would rather hang out with his bar buddies.

That son of a bitch, Ethan immediately thinks to himself. This is exactly what he feared.

“Allison, you don’t deserve to be treated this way. You need to tell him how you feel. If he’s not willing to put in any effort then he’s not the one for you.” Neither am I, he doesn’t say out loud.

Regardless how pissed off he is at Tobias, he still considers him a friend, which means he’d never make a move on her.

As she takes a moment to process his words they hear the front door open.

Tobias walks in holding take-out food and his eyes land on his gf and best friend huddled close together on the couch.

“What is this?” He points between the two.

“Toby, we need to talk.” She gets up nervously and he notices her red-rimmed eyes. “About us,” she continues.

Ethan looks guilty as hell. And it dawns on him. “Are you leaving me for him?” he asks before he can think.

“What?!” Allison is appalled.

“What are you talking about?” Ethan asks, mirroring the expression on her face.

“You were so worried I was cheating on her, but you two were going behind my back, weren’t you?”

Ethan and Allison are flabbergasted and are quick to deny the accusation.

“Oh c’mon, I’ve seen the way you look at her. Tell me right now you don’t have feelings for her.” Silence. “Tell me!”

“That’s enough!” Allison interrupts, stepping between them. “I am not leaving you for Ethan. I can’t believe you’d think that of me. I was sitting here all by my lonesome after you canceled our date, only to find out from Facebook you’ve been with your friends. You said you’d be at the library, why would you lie to me? I don’t care if you want your space, but it feels as though you’ve been making time for them much more than you’ve been making time for me. So I brought up my concerns to Ethan. He was just being a friend.”

Tobias swallows, taking in her words.

“We’ll talk later. There are some things I need to think about,” she says and leaves.

The two men stand face to face in silence for a few seconds before Tobias speaks. “Was I imagining it?”

Ethan doesn’t need him to elaborate. He already knows he’s referring to the question he didn’t get to answer before Allison interrupted.

“I do. But that’s irrelevant.”

“I knew it. I thought you were my friend.”

“I am. Which is why my personal feelings are irrelevant. This isn’t about me. This is about you and Allison, and if you really care about her you either treat her like she deserves or you let her go.”

“Let her go so you can have your chance?”

“I thought you knew me better than that,” Ethan answers.

“We’ve always competed for the same things. Why not try to take my girl too?”

“Because you’re my friend.”

“Could’ve fooled me,” Tobias retorts.

“Competing for the highest grade is one thing, but I would never come between you and your girlfriend.

“Whatever. I can’t even think straight, I’m out of here.” He walks out the door, leaving Ethan disappointed and disheartened.

Allison breaks up with Tobias the next day. His friendship with Ethan is no longer the same after that.

And it’s not long after that Tobias tries to sabotage Ethan’s interview for the spot on Naveen’s diagnostics team.

Allison was definitely better off without either Tobias and Ethan. Since Ethan was so committed to school, I don’t think it would have worked out between them had they dated instead. Tobias was really into Allison, but staying in a committed relationship at the time wasn’t in his cards, which is why he started straying in the relationship. He never physically cheated, but flirting was definitely not okay. He’s matured since then, and current-day Tobias would never treat a partner that way ever again.

Allison never spoke to Tobias after their breakup, and although she remained friendly with Ethan, they weren’t as close anymore. She later moved to Texas for her residency, became a successful doctor, and is happily married.

Tobias and Ethan were able to work things out all those years later, so they become buds again after Tobias joins Edenbrook.
