The kobold crew ? I just love all those funky little dragon gender guys

 RQG requests #11, FUNKY LITTLE DRAGON GENDER GUYS!!!! thank you so much for your prompt!! i’d never sat to think about their individual designs before this, and as much as i prefer to plan beforehand, it felt great to just doodle and build them as i went! this is pretty much exactly the result and vibe i wanted, so i’m very happy with this one. it’s really cute! they’re all so cute!!!!! character design is great!!

 going from top to bottom we have meerk, draal and driaak, natun and tadyka, sassraa at the center, and our guy skraak on the front. what absolute lads.

  sassraa is wearing a white lab coat and goggles. her fins are spiky and pointing diagonally upwards, making them look like cel. she's facing left and is looking right, with her left arm behind her back, and her right holding a test tube up to her face. she's smiling softly.

  behind her and stepping towards the left is natun. they're small and reach to about sassraa's chest. they're leaning forwards and have syringe spear on their right hand, and are wearing plain leather armor on their torso. they have a shorter, snubby snout, small horns that curl like a ram's, and two sets of ear fins, which give them a more aquatic look. they have an attentive, eager face and look younger than the rest.

   above them is draal. they're wearing a fur-lined, dark brown coat and are holding a fang on their right hand, holding it in front of their face with a big grin. their horns and fins are sharp and short, pointing backwards in spikes.

   opposite natun is tadyka. she's a slim, lanky kobold, standing with a bit of a stoop. they're holding a syringe spear in both claws, in front of them. she has a long, less angular snout, and her fins are split into two horizontally. they have plain leather armor. her horns are short and slightly curved forwards.

   above her and opposite draal is driaak. they're as tall as draal, and are also wearing a fur-lined coat for the cold. theirs is white with light brown fur, anf they're a dark maroon rather than red. their horns are very small, and their fins are wider towards the top. they're stepping forwards and have a left claw up to their eyes, looking into the distance with a cheery smile.

   behind them all is meerk. his body is facing right but he is yelling upwards, sticking his tongue with a grin out and holding drumsticks on each claw. they have a black headband around their heard, spiky bracelets on their right arm, dark gray gloves, and a shiny leather vest. they're bright red, their fins are short and spiky, and their horns are shaped like lightning bolts. his tail pokes out from behind draal in a curl, and the tip of it is a small spiky ball, like a morning star. end ID]

Bryn's voice acting during the Freaky Friday section of the airship arc is honestly so good -- he manages to walk the line between Azu and Hamid's voices and vocal mannerisms so well.

(if ur still taking requests!) going on a boba date jude and him trying it for the first time 🧋🤍 and maybe doing smth cute like getting matching piercings/tattoos together after 🤭

“i heard people choke on shit like this and die.” jude said, a hint of wary in his voice as he was eyeing the boba in front of you guys.

convincing him to try it with you was quite easy, jude never made you say a wish twice, he always immediately tries to get you what you want, same thing you do for him. however, convincing him to actually try the boba proved itself to be quite hard.

the atmosphere around you guys was really nice, soft even. the boba shop was nearly empty, most of the people that got boba went outside. the weather was nice, which resulted in the perfect time for a long awaited date.

“i promise you, babe, that rarely happens. just try it, i swear you’ll like it!” the whole situation got you smiling somehow. jude looked to unsure, almost like a cute (meerk/-)cat. all you wanted to do was to get on his lap and cuddle him, maybe kiss him?

“if i die-“

“you won’t!”

“well still, you don’t know what might happen!”

sighing, you take your boba and bring the straw to your lips, taking a sip from it, all while holding eye contact with your boyfriend. you chewed the boba ball and swallowed it, before showing you empty tongue your boyfriend.

“see? i am still alive. now’s your turn!”

as jude saw the excitement in your eyes, or maybe he was just being a horny teenager again, though he couldn’t help but comply to your wishes. bringing the straw closer to his lips, he took one last breath before taking a sip. he felt the boba in his mouth and started to chew.

the beverage itself tasted really good, he noted, he just didn’t know how to describe the flavor of the boba.

“it’s glibbery.” he states, putting down his cup and looking at you. “but it’s okay.”

“just okay?”

nodding, jude shrugged, “i mean, i don’t think i’d crave it or whatever, but i wouldn’t say no to another boba date either.”

smiling, you moved closer to his body, leaning against his side as his own hand made its way around your waist, “i’m glad it wasn’t a complete fail for you.”

“nah,” jude shaked his head, “i know that you know me, babe. i bet you knew that i wouldn’t hate it.”

“i didn’t know that you were such a scaredy cat, though.” your voice was laced with a hint of teasing, your arms now around his torso as you squeezed him slightly.

“shut up, dude!” he groaned, head thrown back, “people can actually die because of this!”

laughing, you shaked your head. was this actually the guy that would start a fight on the pitch when someone wronged him? was this also the guy that had no problem from jumping down off cliffs into the ocean, without a single doubt?

“you know,” you broke the comfortable silence between the two of you, “i genuinely love you so much, it’s crazy.”

“yeah, it would be crazy if you didn’t, i mean, look at me.”

groaning, you pushed away from his body, at least you tried to, but he had a good grip on you, the smirk on his lips never leaving.

yeah, it would be crazy not to love him, you admit.

Look this has been sitting in my notes app for literally years now, so time to either go back to posting them or delete forever. I think I'd regret never posting them so here you go. Heads up I didn't end up finishing the series & don't actually remember when I stopped

Not much by way of pre listening thoughts other than a vague hope Earhardt is going to knock it off now that the Kobolds reassured her they won't object to fighting the dragon that attacked her ship. I mean there are over a dozen lovely things I anticipate coming up in the next few episodes but I trust RQ to get to it when they get to it. Literally the only thing I think they might actually drop the ball on is if they decide not to address if elementals are people. Which would esp suck after that great scene in Paris where Hamid has a moment with one; but no canon is perfect and I'm not sure how much more lore we can get before we lose people who don't live for world building like me. Especially since if they are people it implies systematic enslavement world wide. Which wowee there's a comment on capitalism being dependent on the exploitation of people who aren't seen as people at levels direct & indirect, large & small, but if fandom is reacting this badly to the cohort I can see where neither Alex nor Anil are paid enough to go there.

Oh and as always Azu needs to have a conversation where she isn't the strong one, like I hope mega juicing was cathartic but tell someone she's afraid of something, be petty about something silly, talk about her grief & guilt for her own sake. If she was a Mary Sue I'd wave it as women get to play wish fulfilment characters too, but she is very well played and real people don't do well with being serenely helpful all the time. Although I might be worried just because I like her so much, maybe I'm missing moments where she isn't making herself be perfect because she is perfect to me?

Lastly: names, Alex, 5 of them. When I thought he was keeping a hard line on treating the cohort as one character so they wouldn't take over the series it was one thing; but Meerk likes loud noises, and Skraak remains a delight, so make em canon and give me at least 1 characteristic a piece.

sometimes i get emotional about how many npcs just immediately take a liking to sasha. barnes, gerald the butler in dover, the jailer, the gargoyles, earhart, the sphinxes, carter, the old wizard at apophis’, clapper the goblin — there are tons of people she encounters that she makes friends with. and she’s awkward and antisocial and low charisma, but she still connects with so many people regardless, there are so many people who care about her

! Some spoilers for RQG S4 - CWs for animal cruelty, drugging and mourning !

Some considerations for Skraak and Meerk backstory/lore. Sorry RQG178 made me emotional so I have to make things like 100% more tragic.

From the sounds of Skraaks post-resurrection reaction it sounds like they knew Meerk for a lot longer and much more intimately than any of the other kobolds. Therefore, this gives me ample opportunity to play around with the shoin institute stuff and make just the most angsty stuff ever. I headcanon Meerk as being a runt, rejected by their mother. Young Skraak finds the dying runt and takes him in, acting as an older sibling/parental figure. They get separated once the Shoin lot show up and are only reunited years later with the LOLOMG liberation. Time lines and ages be damned.

Apolgies for lacking updates, been experiencing art block recently. These ‘quick’ sketches were an absolute struggle. Thank you to everyone in the RQG zine server who helped me with shoin queries!
