rick and morty season 7 episode 10 "fear no mort": i think i figured out morty's fear
in fear no mort while morty is in the hole…he tells hole rick After they fight in the garage: “Here's a theory for you, I'm afraid of watching you die.”, and hole rick responds:“I like that theory so stop watching.”

morty tells us what his fear is! he admits it right there! it's clear morty is afraid of losing rick forever.

the sad part?..."real rick" has no idea morty is so afraid of losing him forever someday.

have you ever heard the saying: "sometimes the smallest thing is the biggest thing"?...the truth is...rick LOVES morty a whole lot

rick killed king jellybean when he realized king jellybean had assaulted morty.

he cried over morty.

he DID jump in a hole for morty...and didn't mind sacrificing himself and dying if it meant protecting morty.

rick admitted he thought he was losing morty to the vindicaters', and was emotional, and jealous

really? because a few episodes from that one...that was season 3 episode 4...in episode 6 he says right in front of morty and toxic rick, and toxic morty that morty is...

rick's "irrational attachment"

rick built rickbot just to make morty happy,

and morty has poured his heart out to rick before...remember the scene in solaricks?

rick knows HE should be taking care of MORTY...not the other way around

"i don't know him"

"YOU're my grandpa, rick"

"rick and morty for 100 years"

morty makes his grandpa proud. if only morty allowed himself to BELIEVE that rick loves him...so much more than words can say. Sometimes the little things in life, mean the most.

I just wanna go home
Sooo, am I imaginig things or this two scenes are quite similar...
S1E3

S8E1

Maybe it's the despair on Morty's voice asking to go home, like a lost child seeking for an adult to care for him after losing all hope, or maybe the framing of both scenes. And another little detail: Rick never hugs him back, and Summer's hug looks so... comforting for Morty
Any thoughts?
(Sorry for the blurry pics, I'll upload better ones later)

Compilation of moments where Rick was a good grandpa. (Platonic only. No shipping).
I thought it'd be fun to come up with a simple list of times when Rick was a decent grandpa. If you can think of any other moments that I didn't list, please share and I'll add it to the compilation. Hope you enjoy!
Seriously, I really do hope this compilation grows :)
Rick gives Morty his lab coat. Episode: Full Metal Jackrick.

We don't get to see a lot of Rick being gentle or soft, but this was definitely a heart felt moment. Trapped in a blizzard, Rick gives Morty his coat and tries to reassure him. It's a simple gesture, but it does show Rick's gentle, more protective side.
Rick indulging Morty. Episode: Rickfending Your Mort.

So I think this is more character development on Rick's part than anything else. Season 7 definitely delivered a more open minded Rick than what we're used to. In previous seasons, Rick usually degraded and belittled Morty's ideas and adventures, some times even going so far as to purposely hurt him. But in season 7, we see moments where Rick actually indulges Morty's silly ideas without complaint or judgement. He doesn't get as angry when Morty makes mistakes either which is a huge character growth.
Rick holding Morty close while dying. Episode: Solaricks.

Another small gesture but super heart warming. Trapped in space and close to death, Rick and Morty huddle together to accept their fates and die in each other's presence. Considering the fact that they're both about to die, it's sweet to think that Rick would be perfectly content dying while holding his grandson in his arms.
Turning himself in to the government. Episode: The Wedding Squanchers.

Being one of the primary reasons why his family can't return to earth and have a real life, Rick turns himself in to the government so that they can go home and be safe. This was a bold move by Rick, and it shows just how much he secretly cares about his family. He even risked them resenting him, but their safety was more important.
Toxic Rick sacrificing himself to save Morty: Episode: Rest and Ricklaxation.
It's incredible. Even Rick's toxicity cares enough about Morty to sacrifice himself to save him. In this episode, toxic Rick is faced with a difficult choice and that is either to merge with healthy Rick or let Morty disintegrate. Being as narcissistic and mean as he is, it was quite surprising to see toxic Rick willingly merge with his healthy self. (Let's not even mention the part where Rick cried to Jessica about not being able to find healthy Morty).
Rick comforting Morty. Episode: Meeseeks and Destroy.

An absolute rarity in the old days of R&M. After getting attacked by Mr. Jellybean, Morty gives up and decides that he wants to go home. However, instead of belittling or degrading him about his adventure any further, Rick realizes what's happened and comforts Morty. He even goes so far as to complete Morty's adventure with a positive smile soon before assassinating Mr. Jellybean.
Pride and respect. Episode: Fear no Mort.

After his experience in the fear hole, Morty warns Rick not to go into the hole. And, for once, Rick followed Morty's advice and listened to him. Not only that, but he also acknowledged his grandson's accomplishment by putting his photo on the wall and walking away with a proud smile. This is good. This is character development. Rick respected Morty and he listened to him without argument or complaint. I hope we get more moments like this.
Rick sacrificing his life for Mortys. Episode: A Rickle in Time.

How could we forget the time Rick actually did jump into a hole for Morty? This episode was such a punch to the heart. In order to fix time, Rick and Morty have to be absolutely certain. But, one of the split Morty's fell through a hole, and Rick wasted no time jumping in after him. When he catches Morty, he became certain that giving him his own collar was what he wanted to do, and he did. He gladly gave his life to save his grandson.

Headcanon:
After the "Mr.Jellybean Incident", Morty felt uncomfortable using public restrooms. Whenever Morty had to use a public restroom during an adventure, Rick would come with him and wait outside the bathroom.
Also they've never really talked about it, the "Mr.Jellybean Incident", or Rick accompanying Morty. But nontheless, Morty apreciates it.

i was watching meeseeks and destroy today and in the beginning of the episode when morty tells rick that he's done with their adventures i couldn't help but remember a similar situation with evil morty and his rick in the flashback at the beginning of unmortricken and i think its very notable to see the difference between the two scenes:
(please forgive the shitty pictures, theyre taken straight from my laptop 😭. blue is morty prime and rick c-137 and orange is evil rick and morty)
both scenes start with the mortys having an objection about the adventures
"Wow, another adventure where I went up an ass."
"I just killed my family! I dont care what they were."
and both ricks act generally dismissive about it, although evil rick does go for more of a kind of mocking approach while c-137 is just plain dismissive, almost distracted kind of like hes not really paying attention to what morty is saying
"Oh, good, are we having this fight again?" Let me guess, you're gonna leave or throw a sulking fit?"
"I don't know, Morty. Some people would pay top dollar for that kind of breakthrough."

dismissive at first (like i've repeated 3 times already, sorry i cant think of another word 😭), but his face changes when he realises morty's being fr
evil morty's response is, justifiably, to insult his rick, but morty primes response is not meant to be insulting, and its kinda more telling rick how he feels (traumatised) and showing rick his frustration with their adventures as they are
"You think you know everything, Rick, but you're basically just a giant 8-year old." (accurate and also not the only time evil morty has expressed this sentiment)
"You know what, Rick? Thats it! I'm done with these insane adventures! That was really traumatising! I quit! I'm out!"
It's also notable that morty prime is the one who says he's done with ricks stuff, while evil rick is the one who challenges morty to leave
"I'm not doing this anymore! Either you're in or you're out, Morty. I'm tired of you weaponising this half-assed threat. You want out, then fucking quit!"
so evil rick's reaction to morty complaining is to challenge him to leave, but, while initially dismissive, as soon as c-137 realises morty's serious, he immediately tries to stop him
"Woah, woah, woah! Come on, Morty, don't be like that. The universe is a crazy, chaotic place."

look at him, he's so worried about morty leaving
and lastly, evil morty agrees and apologises (ofc we know it isnt sincere, but still, he doesn't even try to get his rick to understand his perspective because he likely never has before), while morty prime doesn't back down and stands his ground
"You know what, you're right. Sorry to be such a high-maintenance Morty. Why don't i get you a drink?"
"You're the one that's crazy and chaotic! Adventures are supposed to be simple and fun."
evil morty then goes on to kill hundreds or thousands of ricks and torture their morties and do a bunch more unspeakable shit, all to escape his rick and the cfc, while rick c-137 and morty prime continue to argue for a little bit longer, but eventually come to a decision together and go on the very first Morty Adventure (which is definitely quite a rocky road, but establishes morty being allowed to pick some of their adventures, which is what he wanted)
also very notable is when evil rick starts shouting and leans into evil morty's space, morty flinches and falls back, shielding himself with his arm (which is something i didnt actually notice initially but that @/fandomwe1rd0 pointed out in this post right here) and he makes a small noise that sounds like one of fear (a video of the scene is in the post i just linked if you want to take a closer look at the interaction). at no point during c-137 and morty prime's little argument does morty flinch/seem afraid of rick physically harming him, granted c-137 didnt really yell at him like evil rick did, but evil morty flinches away when rick leans towards him, not when he starts yelling, and c-137 doesnt just lean towards morty, he actually puts his hands on his shoulders, actually touching him, and morty seems in now way deterred or afraid.
apologies for any spelling mistakes its 2am lol, i hope this made any sense at all! :)

Hi! Love your posts! What's your opinion on Meeseeks and Destory? Even though it brings back painful memories for me personally, I still love it due to it being handled well and Rick was so amazing in this episode and it reminded me why he was my favorite character and Morty was a poor precious baby who deserves the world
Thank you! I actually think it's the first great Rick and Morty episode. The pilot is decent for what it is, but the three episodes that follow (this seems to be an unpopular opinion) are the worst in the series for me. I'll admit that Rickdependence Spray is objectively the worst, but I cannot STAND Lawnmower Dog, Anatomy Park and M. Night Shaym-Aliens!
The plots aren't particularly original (the first two are a jumble of movie parodies, and simulation episodes have been done a million times), and the writing is an endless barrage of cringe and gross-out humor. Like OK, Rick and Morty isn't known for having subdued, tasteful witticisms, but the early episodes go overboard.
Haha, Rick and Morty are gangster rappers! Haha, the dog misses his testicles! Haha, anal flaps! I have no idea how I sat through that the first time.
Meeseeks and Destroy is the first episode after the pilot that's original and doesn't rely too heavily on cringe. Rick and Morty's adventure is (admittedly) yet another parody of fantasy tropes, but Mr. Meeseeks is a unique concept that's never been done before.
We also get some insight into the characters: Morty's strengths when he pushes back against Rick, Beth's insecurities and Rick's protective streak when he kills Mr. Jellybean. Admittedly, Rick Potion No. 9 pretty much ruins any nice thing Rick did in this episode, but at least we see that Grandpa Rick is in there somewhere.
Protective Rick almost disappeared in season three, so I've enjoyed watching him slowly inch back and finally become more protective than he was in season one. Hopefully, he keeps going to therapy.

Day in Fandom History: January 20…
As Morty leads Rick in his own adventure after growing tired of Rick’s shenanigans following one of their adventures that pushed him to his limits, Rick provides the family with a servant from a box named Mr. Meeseeks, which works well with Beth and Summer with their activities, but not Jerry with shooting a golf ball. “Meeseeks and Destroy” premiered on this day, 11 Years Ago.

ill never be over morty fake crying to rick that he’s worried jerry might kill himself just to get rick away from him for a bit
#like there’s so many layers to that one reveal#morty knows rick cares about him but not enough to respect his boundaries#so he goes for emotional manipulation because hey rick has sometimes been nice when morty cries (see: meeseeks and destroy)#but it has to be the right kind of emotion it can’t just be something rick can dismiss or brush off or flippantly fix#and morty knows the divorce has been forcing rick to confront some harsh truths#so he goes for that#leveraging the small amount of control he has#goddddd its so messed up#rick and morty

(Please excuse the fucked up audio in the video I dunno why it does that)
This scene always just breaks my heart...the voice acting is so good...and the silent tear that rolls down Morty's cheek is generally heartbreaking...the way he goes from searching inside Rick's labcoat to find the portal gun, to just breaking down and crying while holding onto Rick for comfort is so genuinely heartbreaking...my poor baby deserves the world...

The Start
• I imagine you became friends with Beth not long after Rick left the family.
• I can see her clinging to any sort of kindness and refusing to let go.
• Like Diane having forgot to pack Beth’s lunch and you feeling bad giving her half your sandwich.
• After that you and her became inseparable. The common phrase used was “We’re siblings who have two separate pairs of mostly shitty parents.
• Diane and your parents aren’t even surprised when they have an extra person at the table. A plate of food is always set aside for either of you.
• You hate Jerry no question about it. You have been trying to break them apart since day one.
• When Beth found out she was pregnant, she came to you first.
• By the time of Beth’s pregnancy Diane is already dead and your parents are either dead or no contact.
• If you weren’t already living with Beth you definitely moved in after the pregnancy. • You basically became the father/mother figure of the house, even with Jerry there.
• You took care of Summer while Beth was at college and when she got back you went to work /school at night.
• Summer’s first word was either mama/papa to you. Jerry to this day complains about it.
• Summer still calls you mama/papa and only says your actual name when she’s mad at you. Though that’s rare.
• Morty just calls you by your first name, since I can see you not being around as much by the time he’s born.
• By the time Morty's born Beth has started working as a vet and Summer’s older. So you start working towards getting a better job.
• Also Jerry didn’t want to lose another kid to you, so he kinda stepped up.
• I imagine by the time Rick comes back your not at the house. He’s told about you but I imagine he doesn’t meet you until after the Lawnmower Dog episode.
• I can see him being hostile at first toward you, since once you return your clearly seen as the head of the house.
• He tries to treat you like Jerry but Beth immediately shuts that down. Rick not expecting Beth to become so hostile towards him makes him recalculate his actions.
• Rick starts watching you and seeing how you interact with everyone.
• He definitely takes a couple of DNA samples to test and looks for other versions of you.
• There are other you’s in the Smith family but there are very few versions where he returns to said family.
• During M.Night Shaym-Aliens! You get dragged along with Jerry. Though instead of thinking it’s the real world you think it’s a dream
• You steal so much stuff.
• And burned down so many buildings. • Rick and Morty finds you in the middle of chain sawing a guy in half.
• After a very awkward encounter with a naked Rick and Morty the episode goes by normally . • Rick starts to seek you out more after this. Probably takes you on a few solo adventures to see what really makes you tick.
• By Meeseeks and Destroy you and Rick hangout way more. Not just on adventures but also at the house.
• Morty asks you to come with on his adventure. I imagine he’s kinda jealous of Summer and your relationship.
• I can see him craving the paternal bond you two have and then seeing you and Rick bonding makes him want that as well.
• I can see you and Rick both being bored out of your minds, but you try to keep up a happy façade for Morty.
• Rick not being able to really hide his distain, tries to tone it down after you threaten to cut his manhood off and feed it to a bird.
• You and Morty also become closer during this adventure. Throughout this one and future Morty adventures you give him unconditional support no matter how boring or bad things go.
• When Rick kills king Jellybean you question if there are more versions of him that are alive. When Rick says yes, you tell him to make you a portal gun with all their locations.
• Rick does, he even makes you weapons without question.
• Neither of you ever speak of what you and he did. Even when rumors start spreading across dimensions about a vicious killer who left no trace behind except the mutilated body.
• At this point Rick is infatuated by you.
• He takes you on adventures with Morty. If your not around when he wants to leave he goes to get you whether you like it or not.
• Though after the first time you yelled at him about crossing boundaries and how he can’t take you from your job. The very job that helps pay for the very expensive electric bill and the wafers he loves so much.
• After that Rick made a robot that can do your job, so you can come on adventures.
• When Morty and Summer asks for one of them he immediately rejects their request.
• Whenever you and Beth or Summer go out together he gets upset.
• He always shows up acting like he just ran into you by coincidence.
• Summer always gets upset but, Beth is happy when he shows up.
• When Rick Potion No. 9 happens Rick gets you first, giving you a shot to stop you from turning.
• When he’s about to change dimensions you in tow, you refused. Not wanting to abandon your family you try to leave.
• Rick knocks you out and takes you along.
• He managed to find a dimension that had a you in it.
• When you wake up your devastated. Rick tries to convince you it’s fine and that it’d be like nothing even happened.
• You refuse to listen to him. You two argue for the majority of the day.
• Rick not wanting to lose you gets the memory gun to erase this horrible day.
• At this point Rick is obsessed with you.
