Technology News For March 2014 Plus A Look At March History For 5 Years

A Little History of March in earlier years...

Five years back, in March 2009 Google was in the news for making a $100 Million endeavor finance. Chime Canada purchased "the Source" and the separation of BearingPoint, post Chapter 11, profited Deloitte and PwC among others around the globe.

Walk 2010 saw a continuation of the financial recuperation. It was a calm month for M&A movement with CA purchasing both 3Tera for about $90 million and Nimsoft for $350 million. Chordiant was purchased by Pegasytems for a little over $160 million, and the other striking arrangement was Avnet's $340 million buy of Bell Microproducts.

Three years prior, in March 2011 world occasions incorporated Japan's seismic tremor, tidal wave and resulting atomic misfortunes. NEC paid $450 million for the data administration business of Convergys and Avaya paid $230 million for an Israeli videoconferenceing and telepresence organization Radvision. Different organizations on the securing trail were DELL, EMC, SafeNet, Avnet and The Utility Company. At last, SAIC consented to pay near a half billion dollars to the City of New York identified with charges it overbilled and paid kickbacks!

A year ago, in March 2013 a portion of the "standard characters" were making acquisitions, however there were no billion dollar bargains reported. Monetary news was, best case scenario "lukewarm" in Canada, with the joblessness rate unaltered and markers for the most part "blah" (that is one of my best financial terms). 1 - I MEDIATORI D'ORO DI ARCURI: «SPERIAMO NEL LOCKDOWN»

«Speriamo che a novembre esploda», ovvero che ci sia un lockdown nazionale. Perché così quella che l'inchiesta della procura di Roma descrive come una cricca internazionale, avrebbe fatto «lucrosi affari» sulla pandemia. Era quanto si augurava uno degli indagati nella maxi inchiesta sulle mascherine da parte della Procura di Roma sull' affidamento di 1,25 miliardi fatto dal commissario per l'emergenza Domenico Arcuri a tre consorzi cinesi per l'acquisto di 800 milioni di dispositivi di protezione avvenuto attraverso l'intermediazione di alcune imprese italiane.

A parlare è Jorge Solis, che nelle intercettazioni della Finanza riporta anche: «Questo è un lavoro che si fa senza valigetta». Sono stati i finanzieri del Nucleo Speciale di Polizia Valutaria della Guardia di Finanza a eseguire una serie di sequestri preventivi, nei confronti di un gruppo di persone accusate, in concorso tra loro, del reato di traffico di influenze illecite (aggravato dal reato transnazionale) oltre che, a vario titolo, di ricettazione, riciclaggio e auto-riciclaggio.

Gli indagati sono Andrea Vincenzo Tommasi, che era ai vertici della società Sunsky srl, il giornalista in aspettativa dalla Rai Mario Benotti, Antonella Appulo, Daniela Guarnieri, Jorge Edisson Solis San Andrea, Daniele Guidi, Georges Fares Khozouzam e Dayanna Andreina Solis Cedeno. Le altre società entrate nell' inchiesta sono la Partecipazioni Spa, la Microproducts It Srl e la Guernica Srl.

Grazie a due provvedimenti giudiziari, i finanzieri hanno sottoposto a sequestro le quote societarie della Guernica s.r.l., disponibilità finanziarie, polizze assicurative, immobili a Roma, Pioltello (MI) e Ardea (RM), auto e moto di lusso, gioielli, orologi di pregio e uno yacht, per un valore totale di circa 70 milioni di euro.

Ma qual è l'accusa? Aver sfruttato i legami con la struttura commissariale per percepire commissioni per decine di milioni di euro dai consorzi cinesi affidatari delle forniture (in particolare, mascherine chirurgiche FFP2 e FFP3).

Secondo quanto si legge nei due decreti di sequestro, «Mario Benotti, sfruttando le sue relazioni personali con Domenico Arcuri, si faceva promettere e quindi dare indebitamente da Andrea Tommasi, il quale agiva in concorso per previo concerto con Daniele Guidi, e Jorge Solis, la somma di 11.948.852, confluita per 8.948.852 sul conto della Microproducts srl di Daniela Guarnieri, (compagna di Benotti ndr) e per 3 milioni di euro sul conto della Partecipazioni spa di Georges Khozouzam quale remunerazione indebita della sua mediazione illecita, occulta e fondata sulle relazioni personali con Arcuri».

Ciò che salta all'occhio sono i numerosi contatti telefonici e via sms tra Benotti e Arcuri. 1.282, secondo le carte, intercorsi tra il 2 gennaio (quando Arcuri non era ancora stato nominato nel suo ruolo) e il 6 maggio 2020. Arcuri, dalla sua, qualche giorno fa ha fatto inviare una nota a una trasmissione televisiva in cui nega di conoscere Benotti, ma lo stesso, in una successiva puntata di un altro talk show, chiarisce: «Se il commissario Arcuri ritiene di non conoscermi e lo dice, se ne assumerà le sue responsabilità».

L'ufficio stampa fa sapere che «la struttura commissariale e il commissario Arcuri (estranei alle indagini) sono stati oggetto di illecite strumentalizzazioni da parte degli indagati». E ancora: «La struttura commissariale e il commissario continueranno a fornire la più ampia collaborazione agli investigatori. Nella loro veste di parti offese hanno già richiesto ai loro legali di valutare la costituzione di parte civile in giudizio per ottenere il risarcimento del danno».

In una conversazione tra Benotti e la compagna, del 20 ottobre scorso, lo stesso si rammarica che Arcuri ha interrotto l'interlocuzione con lui. A rassicurarlo è un funzionario della struttura commissariale, tal Mauro Bonaretti, che Arcuri non vuole parlargli per tutelarlo: «Voglio evitare che Mario si sporca...lo voglio avvisare di questa situazione». E prosegue: «Mi ha detto di non farti vivo in questa fase, di lasciarlo un attimo per evitare casini». Benotti, che con Bonaretti si vanta di aver praticamente organizzato l'intera fornitura di mascherine, ha il sospetto che qualcosa stia loro per «arrivare addosso». L'inchiesta lo conferma.

2 - DRAGHI E LE TOGHE LIQUIDANO IL METODO INVITALIA I PIENI POTERI NON FRENANO SPECULATORI E RITARDI

«Non dobbiamo limitare le vaccinazioni in luoghi specifici, spesso ancora non pronti: usare tutte le strutture disponibili, pubbliche e private». La frase con cui Mario Draghi liquida rade al suolo le «primule» di Domenico Arcuri arriva intorno alle 11, primo argomento concreto del discorso sulla fiducia, non appena esauriti i preamboli.

Intorno a mezzogiorno viene diramata la notizia che il nucleo valutario della Guardia di finanza di Roma sta eseguendo un ordine di sequestro da 70 milioni di euro legato all'inchiesta sulle mediazioni d'oro per una enorme partita di mascherine importate dalla Cina su mandato dello stesso Commissario straordinario all'emergenza. Si conferma la solita legge italica delle coincidenze per cui l'indebolimento politico coincide spesso con tempestivi infortuni giudiziari.

Non si tratta di fare dietrologia, ma solo di prendere atto che il cambio di fase politica si sta manifestando con più rapidità di quanto possa apparire. Per un anno il plenipotenziario di Conte ha esercitato un potere assoluto su un numero crescente di materie, con il piglio arrogante di chi non sopporta le critiche e le liquida con supponenza, vedi le frecciate ai «liberisti da divano», o il fastidio per le domande dei giornalisti.

Ora inevitabilmente, arriva lo scrutinio su come sono stati spesi i dieci miliardi gestiti dalla struttura commissariale. Arcuri, va detto, non è nemmeno indagato nell' inchiesta della procura di Roma e della Guardia di finanza sui guadagni d'oro dei mediatori «informali» che hanno importato dalla Cina guanti e mascherine per centinaia di milioni. Sono al vaglio i rapporti tra il giornalista Mario Benotti che si era offerto di usare i suoi contatti cinesi per procurare guanti e mascherine a miliardi e Arcuri, che in seguito ha negato questi rapporti.

Per la Procura invece, Benotti ha agito «su esplicita e reiterata richiesta, orale e scritta, del Commissario all'emergenza Covid-19», ma avrebbe incassato commissioni milionarie dalle aziende che vendevano il materiale. Il colmo è che agli indagati si contesta il reato di «traffico di influenze illecite», cioè la norma anti corruzione fortemente voluta dai grillini. Ma non è questo il punto: la vera questione è politica prima che giudiziaria.

Arcuri ha fortemente condizionato il mercato delle mascherine mettendo in difficoltà tante aziende italiane, con lo scopo dichiarato di rendere l'Italia autonoma dall' import cinese per settembre, e invece i carichi dall' Oriente continuano ad arrivare. E proprio Arcuri, che prometteva battaglia alle speculazioni, non si era accorto che una parte consistente dei suoi ordini passava attraverso quelli che il Gip definisce «free lance improvvisati desiderosi di speculare sull' epidemia»? Gente che «sperava nel lockdown a novembre» per «fare affari lucrosi».

Stavolta però, sia pure di un'ora, la politica è arrivata prima. Il discorso del premier non è solo un requiem per le «primule», i costosi e inutili gazebo di Arcuri. L' invito di Draghi a usare per le vaccinazioni «tutte le strutture disponibili, pubbliche e private» suona come una svolta rispetto alla gestione ipercentralizzata che vedeva Arcuri collezionare incarichi e una generale diffidenza verso il privato figlia della fede statalista su cui era costruito il patto di potere dei giallorossi.

Non si sa ancora se il governo deciderà di fare a meno di Arcuri o di sfoltire il portafoglio infinito dei suoi incarichi. Però una cosa è certa: non sarà più così centrale. Ieri la Protezione civile ha avviato un censimento dei volontari per programmare la loro vaccinazione che appare prodromica al loro massiccio impiego nella campagna di distribuzione del siero. Ma si andrà oltre: il modello è quello dei tamponi, a lungo gestiti in modo centralizzato creando code e ritardi terminati solo quando lo Stato ha ceduto il monopolio.

It was a quiet month for M&A activity with CA buying both 3Tera for about $90 million and Nimsoft for $350 million. Chordiant was bought by Pegasytems for a little over $160 million, and the other notable deal was Avnet's $340 million purchase of Bell Microproducts. Three years ago, in March 2011 world events included Japan's earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear woes. The big technology event of the month was AT&T's announcement of a $39 Billion deal to buy T-Mobile... which later failed, costing AT&T a reputed $4 billion. While there were no other mega-deals of this nature it was a fairly busy month in the M&A world. Which brings us back to the present... March 2014 was not a banner month for acquisitions but there was one big deal with Facebook making a, somewhat surprising, $2 Billion acquisition of virtual reality company Oculus VR. Some other interesting moves saw a fair bit of investment in "big data" company Cloudera with both Google (as part of an investment consortium) and Intel involved. SAP added to its purchasing software suite with the acquisition of Fieldglass and Telus made a couple of buys, Enode a management consulting company out of Quebec and Med Access an addition, in British Columbia, to their healthcare division. There were a few other smaller deals plus Embarcadero bought the ERwinDate Modelling software from CA. Indicators in the US however were generally positive with growth in GDP, several confidence indices showing promise and an outlook of increased hiring. That is it for my look at what was happening in the technology space over the last month, compared to the same month in previous years.
