going from watching the life series from joel's perspective to grian's is actually such whiplash.

joel's videos are a comedy or, at the very most, a tragic comedy. his traps all suck, he's already on red, he's so in love with his wife and is in a homoerotic relationship with his teammates. he jumps three blocks to injure himself because it'll hurt grian too and he's just that petty. he shoehorns in bucket clutches and speed bridging any second he gets. his pvp skills are unmatched but every conversation he holds has a 70% chance of being the awkwardest thing you've heard all day.

and then you get to grian and it's a genuine tragedy where there is no escape from the narrative. grian is constantly counting his time, his hearts, his lives. he is maximizing every second he has, strategizing every little thing to try to win despite his first victory being so bitter. he has the highest kill count and everyone he swears to protect dies. he is desperate to latch onto the next person so he is anything but alone but his status as game master isolates him from everybody anyway. it only gets worse as the seasons continue.

If I ever get married to a man and he becomes a Minecraft YouTuber that plays on an smp I’ll have no choice but to accept the fact that I’m in a poly relationship now, cause have you seen the way these men act around each other the second they log onto the silly little block game?

Like they’ll spend over two hours waxing poetry about how much they love one another with everything in their souls, how they want to make love under the stars, how the other is a piece of them that they’ll never truely be whole without the other and then in the middle of pretending to make out sloppy style they’ll stop and be like “oh gotta log off my wife of five years that I’m happily married too is calling for me” huh???

Tim drake is the kind of person to play Minecraft exclusively for the redstone mechanics. Kon is building a beautiful thriving farm next to cassies half-built house (she’s trying to recreate the acropolis but keeps getting the scale and ratio wrong so she keeps blowing it up and starting from scratch again) and suddenly there’s Tim’s uglyass redstone plane flying across the sky. It doesn’t matter that the cows and horses are fake ok that plane should NOT be flying so low over Kon’s farmland.

I love the contrast between everyone else's episode 2s of impossible minecraft being about surviving the tortuous mechanics forcing them to constantly lose everything and restart from scratch over and over vs joel getting lucky in a cave and then having a peaceful cottagecore life trying to farm and getting slightly inconvenienced by the things everyone else finds deadly
