omg i guess i never posted this!! but here are some doodles i did of miriam teak lee as juliet a couple days after seeing & juliet 🥲 i can’t believe this show is closing and i feel so lucky i got to see it.. it’s the most recent show ive seen so far and also the last one i saw before covid hit lol so it’s very special to me!

(one of) my favourite Black characters is Juliet Capulet from & Juliet!

she's my favourite because she's so incredibly bright. she cares a lot for her friends, which i think is really special. shes in her 20s and trying to find herself after years of being in Verona and almost killing herself over Romeo. she has a lot of fun in the first act, getting on chandeliers and laughing and getting engaged in a panic, and then in the second act she's confused and scared and she's not sure whats happening anymore (after her ex husband coming back and her getting engaged to a guy she just met again), and i just think thats really nice to see. shes sweet and funny and caring, and she can go from celebrating and having fun to comforting her best friend in the bathroom in a matter of seconds

she kind of just goes with the flow and doesnt stand up for herself for a lot of the show, until she's at her wedding and her fiancé just called it off because he loves her best friend, and by then shes had enough and stands up to her parents, and to everyone, and then she just leaves. i love this character so much and i love her vows to herself where she says that she loves herself and is going to stop letting people tell her what to do and control her destiny. and then after all of this she decides that she does still love Romeo (that she was telling herself that she couldn't do) and says that she wants to have a 'first date' with him.

i know this seems like a summary of everything she does in the show but everything she does in the show is why i love her so much! she loves herself and she loves her friends and her nurse and she loves Romeo, and she has fun and laughs and dances and learns who she is which i think is so beautiful!! i love this character a lot

as for this specific actress that i added pictures of (Miriam-Teak Lee, the first Juliet actress! she played her on West End and was one of the only actors that stayed for the whole run, including when it reopened after Lockdown) her Juliet is super fun, and she's actually the whole reason that Juliet is so bright and happy! Juliet was originally supposed to be shy and timid, but when Miriam auditioned, she was the complete opposite of that but so perfect for the role, so they completely changed the character for her! she's an amazing actress and Juliet is an amazing character

Oh shit, her and Romeo are still alive? Tbh, it was never my favorite play (Mercutio was my favorite part, everyone say thanks to Harold Perrineau) but this actually sounds very interesting! I love it! And they styled Miss Miriam! I love it when people actually style Black actresses for period pieces.

From the rumoured names for the West End cast, they seem to be heading for a more established cast (by established, I mean ppl who are quite well known in the West End, or who are quite popular among younger fans through TikTok etc). I wonder if this means we will see the likes of Miriam Teak Lee or Shanay Holmes in the new cast change!

Do we have any idea when the next west end cast change will be announced?

Who are your top picks for new actresses?

(Personally I really wanna see Miriam teak-lee as Howard)

Actual cast change could be anywhere from late Sep-mid Nov this year. For the West End the cast is usually announced pretty close to their start date, around 3-4 weeks in advance. My bet for this year is late October with an announcement in the first or maybe second week of October, but no idea if that's what will happen.

I'd generally say: - would love to see another cruise actor return for a mainland run (I do have a wishlist of a few in particular) - Courtney Mae-Briggs (dreamcast her here as A, although I'd really love to see her as swing or potentially P as well) - Megan Elizabeth Hill, who I'd really love to see as swing specifically (also dreamcast here) - Gabby Brooks (I have her as A but tbh she could do most of the roles) - Char Burnett - Danielle Fiamanya - Lydia Fraser - Roshani Abbey - Jordan Frazier - Hiba Elchikhe

Of course there's a million others, but those are some big ones. And ultimately I always most look forward to see which recent grads Six will pick. There's always a few in every cast and since I'm usually relatively unfamiliar with them (especially compared to some of the bigger names I said up there) it's always a really fun surprise to see how how they make their roles their own!
