The third outfit Phryne wears in "Murder & the Maiden" (Season 3, Episode 2) is a gorgeous blue and purple coat with a matching purple cloche accented with blue floral embroidery.

The star of this outfit is the beautiful chinoise coat made of black silk with midnight blue damask floral designs and purple silk trim on the pockets and her lapped sleeve cuffs. Her coat is lined with purple silk, and has a standing mandarin collar with a single hidden closure at the waist. Marion Boyce, the costume designer, added cut out elements from original 1920's silk embroidery, attaching two large blue flowers to the left shoulder, as well as one on her hat. She finishes off her look with a blue silk organza floral brooch pinned to her shoulder.

Her accompanying cloche is a matching purple felt with a tight molded brim and decorative swoop near Phryne's left cheek, along with one of the silk embroidered flower motifs also seen on her coat.

Underneath her coat, Miss Fisher wears her dark blue camisole with small scalloped trim on the straight neckline, along with her navy blue wide leg silk faille pants. She accessorizes with a bag made of the same fabric as her coat, long teardrop earrings, and a large purple amethyst and diamond ring.

The first outfit of "Murder & the Maiden" (Season 3, Episode 2) is a luxurious red velvet coat over a silver camisole and matching pants, complete with a shaped straw hat accented by feathers.

Known as the Coral Dreamcoat, Phryne's coat is made of a silk shot coral velvet with silver silk lining. Closer examination reveals godets (triangular inserts of fabric to add movement and width) of the velvet lined with silver piping on each side, along with a front tie and upturned sleeves with beaded decorations hanging from the ends of each.

"[The coat] has a front tie, which gives it lots of movement. Gareth Blaha, who's really quite sensational with finishing pieces, made these beautiful dangles off all the sleeves and the front tie." - Marion Boyce, Costume Exhibition Catalogue

Serving as a backdrop for her coral coat is a scoop-neck camisole with a wide hem, and flared trousers are made of a matching grey faille. Topping it all off is an authentic 1920s straw beret, adorned with a few thin maroon swirling feathers on top of a coral and maroon ostrich feather pouf and decorated with two gold buttons.

Phryne also brings along her grey woven handbag with a golden clasp that has been seen previously in 2x01 and 2x02, and ties in with the silver in her coat lining and her camisole and pants. She finishes the look with grey suede heels, white leather gloves, and glass bugle bead earrings.

I'm finally watching Miss S, the Chinese remake of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and I have to say I am really enjoying it. The costumes and sets are absolutely stunning (one could be cynical by how incredibly clean everything looks but whatever, it's gorgeous) and it 100% has the Miss Fisher vibes but with a few tweaks. I am absolutely loving Wenli and Luo as a Phryne and Jack duo. If anything, Luo is even more attractive than Jack and just spends the whole time looking at Wenli with heart eyes. He's barely concealing it! It's interesting - the sexual elements on a literal level are toned down for Chinese audiences but that means that in many ways there's even more nuance and spark. Anyway, I think it's great.

The only thing I think is a bit of a let down is that I am really not warming to Taozi (Dot) and whatever the Hugh Collins equivalent is called. Xiao-an? Taozi just genuinely looks and acts about 12 to me and therefore it's really hard to buy her as any kind of romantic prospect and it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I want to send her off to school. She barely looks older than the Jane character! And the constable comes across as a bit gormless. I admit their shipping of Wenli and Luo is very cute but I find their romance very cringe so far.
