09: chapter eight
Idoljk x oc
Jia and Rian sat cross-legged on their leather couch, a half-eaten pepperoni pizza steaming between them on the coffee table. The TV flickered with some overdramatic dating show, the kind where the male participant gets to decide if he wants to continue with the supposedly love of his life and not throw the ball, or throw the ball and gets to go back home with all the money.
Jia nibbled at her slice, the grease staining her fingertips, before setting it down with a sigh.
"Are we really going to ignore the elephant in the room?" She turned to Rian, her knee bumping the pizza box.
Rian kept her eyes glued to the screen, pretending to be absorbed in the scene. "What elephant? Look, did you see how he threw the ball down, and she actually believed him when he said he loved her?"
Jia raised an eyebrow. "Rian. You said that exact same line two minutes ago."
"Oh." Rian shoved another bite into her mouth.
Jia exhaled through her nose, snatched the remote, and switched off the tv.
"Hey!" Rian choked on her pizza, pounding her chest. "I was watching that!"
"No, you weren’t," Jia said flatly, tossing the remote onto the couch. "And this is more important now Turn and Look at me."
Rian stayed stubbornly in place, her eyes fixed on the now-blank TV screen as if willing it to turn back on.
Jia’s fingers drummed her thigh. "Rian." A warning. "Don’t make me physically turn you."
With a sigh that deflated her entire body, Rian finally surrendered. She dropped her half-eaten slice onto the box and turned.
"Are you really not coming back to Korea with me?" Jia asked, her laced with concern.
"Of course, I am," Rian replied. "I have to go back, I need to see my family too."
Jia’s eyes narrowed. "Bullshit." She crossed her arms, the unspoken Are you kidding me? hanging between them.
Rian exhaled sharply and slumped against the couch. "I really don’t know, Jia."
The past five months had been grueling. They had poured every ounce of effort into their portfolio, drawing inspiration from the Victorian era but with a modern twist. Their collection, midnight reverie, featured intricate designs that blended timeless opulence with contemporary versatility. The centerpiece of their submission was The midnight bloom Choker, a unique jewelry piece with an interchangeable gemstone mechanism. Wearers could swap out precious stones to match their preference, and when exposed to light, the choker reflected celestial hues onto the skin, creating a mesmerizing galaxy-like effect.
When they’d won, Rian had actually cried. Jia had screamed so loud security nearly kicked them out.
Then came the gut punch.
Drum rolls please.
"The apprenticeship will be with Han Seora," Professor Evans announced.
Han Seora.
The moment Rian heard the name, she felt the color drain from her face. Jia, meanwhile, was barely holding back from jumping up and down in excitement. While Jia was buzzing with joy, Rian had to force a smile, masking the storm brewing inside her.
Jia’s gasp was audible. "THE Han Seora? The ‘Queen of asian Jewelry’ Han Seora?" She’d clutched Rian’s arm, her nails leaving half-moon indents. "We’re going to work with a legend!"
Rian’s smile had been glacial. "Yeah. Legend."
But Jia, even in her excitement, caught the shift in Rian’s expression. The moment their eyes met, she knew something was wrong. And that’s when Rian had no choice but to sit her down and tell her everything, her family history, the tangled connections, the reasons why working with Han Seora wasn’t as simple for her as it seemed.
Jia had been flabbergasted, staring at her, then at the wall, as if trying to process everything at once.
Did she ask Rian a million questions? Absolutely.
Did Rian even have answers to half of them? Not really.
Was Jia upset that Rian hadn’t told her sooner? At first, yes. But once she understood the gravity of it all, she let it go.
Now, a week had passed, and they were still trying to figure out what to do next.
Jia's fingers played with her rings. "Are you really going to drop out?" The question hung in the air between them.
Rian couldn't meet her eyes. "I'm thinking about it." she admitted.
"No." Jia's voice cracked. "Please don't. If you quit, I won't do it either.
"Don't be stupid," Rian said, shaking her head. She softened her tone. "You've dreamed about this since freshman year. Don't throw it away because of me."
"But this was our hard work, Rian. Not just mine. If I go alone, it’ll feel like I stole everything we worked for," Jia argued.
"Stop saying that," Rian sighed. "This is your work too. You deserve it just as much as I do."
A beat of silence. Then Jia's lips quirked. "Fine. Then I'm going to Korea with you to meet your family." At Rian's raised eyebrow, she added, "Besides, you know I'll get lost immediately. My Korean begins and ends with 'kimchi' and 'oppa.'"
Rian choked on a laugh. "Ohhh, so I'm just your human Papago app?" She threw a pillow at Jia. "I see how it is!"
"Obviously." Jia's grin turned wicked. "Also, you promised to help me flirt with hot Seoulites. 'Jeogiyo, oppa, you come here often?'" Her atrocious accent made Rian wheeze.
Their laughter faded too quickly. Jia's smile slipped. "Rian... just think about it. Please." Her foot tapped an anxious rhythm on the floor. "We're better together."
Rian exhaled, running a hand through her hair. "Alright... I'll see what I can do."
What she meant I'll call my father.
What she didn't say I'd rather face another all-nighter with broken pliers than that conversation.
And she better do it tonight.
Rian waited until Jia had gone to her room and fallen asleep before checking the time in South Korea. She needed to know if it was an appropriate hour to call her dad. When she saw that it was 8 AM there, she gripped her phone tightly and started pacing in her room.
Okay, Rian, you got this. Just open your phone and call Dad. Start with “hello” ,that’s the easy part. The rest will follow.
Oh, who was she kidding? She couldn’t do this.
She sat down abruptly on her bed, staring at her phone, opening and closing it multiple times. Please, God, give me strength. Despite wearing only shorts and a tank top, she felt ten times hotter, her skin prickling with nerves.
Okay, now or never.
Taking a deep breath, she opened her contacts and pressed the call button before she could chicken out again. The phone rang. A small part of her hoped he wouldn’t pick up. But then she heard his familiar voice.
“Hello, sweetheart. How are you?”
Rian swallowed. “I’m fine, Dad… Umm, how are you?”
“I’m good. Isn’t it late in London now?”
“Yeah, it is… I just wanted to tell you something.”
His tone shifted slightly. “What is it? Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, perfectly fine,” she rushed to reassure him. “You know the competition I told you about at school?”
“The one where teams are picked for an apprenticeship under a brand?”
“Yeah, that’s the one,” she said, forcing a smile even though he couldn’t see it. “I called to tell you that Jia and I won.”
“That’s amazing! I’m so proud of you, Rian wait till I tell your mom about this.”
She laughed nervously. Okay, here comes the hard part.
“It’s great news, right?” her father asked. Then, after a beat of silence, his voice grew sharper. “Why do you sound like that?”
Rian hesitated. Her fingers dug into the fabric of her blanket. “It’s just… the apprenticeship would be in South Korea.”
There was a pause. “The brand’s headquarters are in South Korea?”
“Yep, Seoul to be precise.”
Another silence.
“What’s the brand’s name, Rian?” His voice was quiet but firm.
Here goes nothing.
“…Han Seora.”
The silence that followed this time was deafening.
“Okay.”
Rian blinked. “Okay?” What does ‘okay’ mean?
“Look, Dad, I told Jia she could go on her own, and—”
Suddenly, a beeping sound cut her off.
He had hung up.
“…Dad?”
Rian pulled the phone away from her ear, staring at the screen. Did he just hang up on me?
Panic bubbled in her chest. She quickly redialed, but the call went straight to voicemail. Who is he calling?
Collapsing onto her bed, she groaned into her pillow. She knew calling him was a bad idea. What was she even expecting?
“Sorry, Jia,” she muttered to herself. “You’re on your own.”
She made a mental note to teach Jia some useful Korean phrases before she completely screwed things up.
With that final thought, exhaustion took over, and her eyes drifted shut.
Rian woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. Without looking at the screen, she blindly reached for it, pressed it to her ear, and answered in a groggy voice.
"Hello?"
“Rian,” her father’s voice came through, calm yet firm. “I just wanted to tell you… do what benefits you. You’re not a little girl anymore, and as much as it pains me, I don’t want to interfere with your future. Even though you may not work under Han Seora in the long run, I admit that this opportunity will benefit you. It’s a high-end brand, and many people would do anything to work under them.”
Rian blinked, slowly pushing herself up on her elbow, trying to process what he was saying.
“So, from all of this,” he continued, “I just want to advise you to do what you think is best for your future, without worrying about my grudge. Okay, honey? Now, I’ll let you go back to sleep.”
Still half-asleep, all Rian could mumble was a bewildered, “Good night,” before hanging up.
She sat there, staring blankly at her phone as the weight of his words settled in. Did that really just happen?
Before she could fully process it, she noticed new message notifications.
One was from her mom, reminding her to pack heavy clothes because it was still slightly cold in Seoul.
The other was from her uncle, Haneul.
"If you’re not busy tomorrow" which means today, since it’s already 3 AM, "come visit me and Rebecca at our home. P.S. Bring my favorite sugar cookies from the bakery. You know the one and you own me because your father woke me up from my deep slumber."
Rian smiled at the message, shaking her head fondly.
Never in a million years did I think Dad would say that. Am I in an alternate reality?
She sighed, flopping back onto her bed and rubbing her face. Her brain wasn’t awake enough to analyze all of this right now. She needed sleep.
Pulling her blanket tighter around herself, she let out a deep breath.
But hey, looks like I really am going back to Korea. And now I’m officially Jia’s personal translator.
With that final thought, she drifted back to sleep.

The scent of fast food was pungent as you sat on the hood of the car.
It was nearing midnight, and Seora decided that a quick pit-stop at the nearest fast food joint would help you recover from your embarrassing escapade; yet, as you gazed down at your half-eaten burger, the memory of the teller's frantic voice still burned fresh behind your eyes.
As if reading your mind, Seora began to cackle, her sepia, reddish-brown skin, tinged yellow by the bright-neon McDonald's sign behind the two of you as she cleaned up; stuffing fries, empty soda cups, and all into their respective bags. "I can't believe that man really ran after you to give you your shoe back."
You followed suit in tidying up, throwing a stray fry aggressively at her while your ears burned like an oven. "Har. Har. Har. Laugh all you want, but in the end, who's the one blacklisted from that venue?"
Seora could only stare, gobsmacked by the pettiness that was dealt. "Touché," she finally hummed before sliding off the car, taking all the trash with her. "Alright, I'm about to head in and buy a couple of choco-cookies before we go, want any?"
"I'm good, thanks," you shouted over your shoulder as you sat perched on the edge of the car and leaned back onto your palms to look up at the cloudy night sky; the moon was full, hanging lazily amid the hazy stars.
As you continued your admiration of the night, a strong gust of air whipped past you, encasing you in cold air.
"Gods, it's freezing," you shivered before slipping off the car-hood to go fetch your jacket; reaching through the open window, your hands weren't met with the soft wool you thought they would, but chilled leather instead.
Turning on the dome light, you leaned in further in an attempt to see if it had fallen on the car floor, but before you couldㅡ"Whatcha doing?"
Jolting at the voice of Seora's abrupt entrance, you winced as the back of your head struck the car's roof.
Immediately, pain blossomed at the area of impact; biting down on your palm to control your sailor-like spiel from escaping into the night, you turned to face your best friend, watching as she innocently swung her bag of goodies back and forth like a child and not like the demon she was for purposely scaring you.
"I'm looking for my hoodie," you eventually answered her question after a few seconds of silence, rubbing away any remaining pain.
"Did you try looking in the back?" She offered, hopping into the vehicle and starting it up with a sort of grace.
"No, didn't get a chance. Got interrupted," you answered in a near hiss, narrowing your eyes as you followed suit before turning around in your seat to see if it fell on the car floor, only to come up empty once again. "Where the hell is my hoodie?"
"Huh? Is it not back there? I could have sworn you had it with you."
"I'm not sure." Your bottom lip pressed into a firm line, eyebrows downturned as a dangerous mix of frustration and anxiety began to grow in the bottom of your stomach. "The last place I remember having it...."
Last place I had it?
Last place I had it?
Fuck! Where the fucking hell did I put it!?
Okay, okay, I remember grabbing it and hiding under the table to scare Seora, which totally backfired. After accidentally engaging in criminal activity and making it through the fan-meeting without getting caught, my jacket got caught on the end of something in the middle of my almost-epic getaway, and then I created a diversion with my shoe...
"Shit!" You cursed in realization. "I didn't grab it! It's still on the table!"
Seora's brows furrowed in concern as she pulled off into the street, "____, are you being serious? Like, for real, for real?"
"Yes," you groaned, fighting the urge to yank your hair out of your head. "I never got the chance to grab it because I had to create a diversion to leave."
The urge to cry was strong as the two of you sat in silence, your eyes welling with unshed tears.
Your jacket...you lost your brother's jacket.
"I mean, we can go back and go get it, if you want?" Seora's voice was like salve to a stinging burn, soothing your growing worry by letting you be aware of the other options available.
"Yeah, let's try that."
Tumblr media
"Hello! Anyone there!?" Seora shouted, yanking on one of the venue's front doors.
You could only watch her futile attempts a few feet away on a short stone wall, lips pulled down into a dejected frown; even though you left the venue less than two hours ago, everyone, from janitors to stragglers, was gone.
Even after realizing you might not get your jacket back, Seora continued to walk around in hopes that someone would come. "Hello! Please! Somebody!? Anybody!?"
"Seora..." you walked over, grabbing her hand before it could knock against the glass once more.
She turned to face you, eyes downcasted as she shuffled to your side. "I'm sorry that we can't get your hoodie back right now, I know that it means a lot to you."
"It's alright, we tried," you told her as the two of you turned around to go home.
Truthfully, it wasn't alright; the entire thing was a shitshow itself, but the fact that Seora was so empathetic and understanding of your situation meant so much to you...
"Hey, maybe we can try emailing them?"
"Sure, let's try that."
...she's a gem, the rare kind of treasure that you'll forever keep close to your chest.
Tumblr media
A/N: Let me first start and just say: I'M SO FUCKING SORRRYYYYYY! It's no excuse that I was literally on hiatus for like a year 💀💀. But ya know, I'm a senior doing senior things, so I gotta focus on the stuff irl... Anywho, I'm happy to come back and (hopefully) finish this book before the end of this school year (that's May for meh) sorry if 3 1/2 months is too long for a 5+ year ongoing book, but I gotta pass mah classes and tings if I want to finish this for real.
See yall next update!!

Ooo, 1, 2, and 7 for each of your Tavs? 👀
OFC MY FRIEND … questions from here !
1) what's your tav's name, class, and race?
Giilvas Quickfoot , Bardbarian ( Wildheart and College of Lore ) , Wood Elf
Zerxes Sarbis , Cleric ( Knowledge Domain ) also pondering a possible multiclass , Mephistopheles Tiefling
Seoras Vrein , Ranger / Druid ( Beast Master / Circle of the Moon ) , Drow Half - Elf
2) which background do they have? how does it play into their story?
Giilvas is a Folk Hero ! He’ s dealt with enough injustices and cruelty growing up , he wants the chance to stop or prevent the cycle for other people . He has a strong mindset of help others before he helps himself , but also is scared of having people rely on him for extended amounts of time . There’ s a lot he has to unpack and unlearn during the game , stemming from this . It also means he has to be careful about who does and doesn’ t know his face .
Zerxes is a Noble ! He knows his family name won’ t carry a lot of weight where he’ s ended up , but still wears his family’ s signet ring in case it may help him later . It’ s not like he’ s on good terms with his family , but he’ ll use whatever influence he can to make things easier for him and the others . Problem is , he is rather disconnected from other people due to a sheltered home life . There’ s a lot of things he has difficultly navigating . And he has to learn how to rather quickly .
Seoras is a Guild Artisan ! A rather well - known face amongst the sellers of textiles in Baldur’s Gate , he knows how to keep people happy and he knows how to haggle . Issue is , he can be seen as rather naïve , really only used to a certain handful of interactions and experiences . He knows how to talk to merchants , and he can see how a deal should work out . But not everyone is a merchant and not everyone is going to uphold their end of a deal . There’ s a lot he has to manage to figure out without his father .
7) typical party lineup?
For the sake of making this a bit easier , I am excluding Halsin , Jaheria and Minsc . Love them dearly but including them would make the lists Longer
Giilvas holds Wyll’ s hand and takes him everywhere , so I cannot separate them . It usually ends up being Wyll + Lae’zel + Karlach . Second most common is Wyll + Gale + Shadowheart . Third is Wyll + Lae’zel + Astarion .
Zerxes has the same thing going on with Gale . Do not separate label and all . His usually ends up being Gale + Shadowheart + Karlach . Second most common is Gale + Wyll + Shadowheart , third is Gale + Lae’zel + Karlach
Seoras ends up being Karlach + Wyll + Astarion , second most common is Astarion + Shadowheart + Lae’zel , third is Astarion + Gale + Karlach

Seonag Tallach Full Bio
Tumblr media
I finally finished my huge full bio for Seonag.
Basics
Name:  Seonag Tallach
Name Origin:  Scottish
Name Meaning: “God is gracious”, “Large browed”
Nickname/Stage Name:  Shava
Name Pronunciation: SHO-nahk (or SHO-nah) TA-lakh
Birthday:  July 19th, 1980
Star Sign:  Cancer Sun, Libra Moon, Scorpio Rising
Chinese Zodiac: Metal Monkey
Age--
Season 1: 26
Season 2: 27
Season 3: 29
Season 4: 31
DSR: 33
Family: Ciaran (father), Anna (mother), Sine (younger sister), Niall (uncle), Doirin (aunt), Seoras (cousin), Scrunt (cat)
Family Dynamic: Seonag currently keeps a respectful distance from her older relatives.  Other than the occasional phone call, she doesn’t do much to keep in touch.  She’s closer to her aunt, uncle, and cousin than her immediate family, but she also knows she can’t visit them without the rest of her family finding out.  Seonag doesn’t have any desire to seek out her biological parents.  At least not enough of a desire to do anything actionable.
Upbringing:  Seonag is ethnically Japanese, but she was adopted by a Scottish family when she was a baby.  She was born with glaucoma in her right eye and had to get most of it surgically removed.  Her father is a construction worker and her mother was a nurse.  Her father was very politically active, especially in the Scottish liberation efforts.  Overall Seonag’s upbringing was stable, but she was always under the impression that she wasn’t measuring up – especially when compared to her younger sister (who is blood-related to her parents).  Growing up, she used to go to her aunt and uncle’s house after school instead of heading home.  Her cousin, Seoras, helped shape her music tastes.  Seonag realized she was trans when she was 15, but she didn’t have the vocabulary to describe what she was experiencing, so she settled for just being seen as “effeminate” and just “weird”.  At age 17, Seonag left home for London to be with a guy she met on an online message board.  But on the way (just over an hour of traveling later), she got a bad vibe so she stopped in Edinburgh where her life truly began.
Current Residence: Edinburgh, Scotland (Season 1-2) Somewhere in the United States (Season 3-Doomstar)
Birthplace: Perth, Scotland
Languages Known:  English (native), Scots (native), Scottish-Gaelic (semi-fluent), Japanese (beginner)
Profession: Record store cashier
Hobbies: Playing guitar, sewing, skateboarding
Skills/Talents:  Seonag’s cousin taught her how to play guitar when she was 10.  She started playing the bagpipes when she was 18.  Seonag is also pretty good at sewing and making clothes.
Band: In Sluagh-Ghairm, Seonag performed lead vocals as well as backup guitar and bagpipes.
Gender: Trans woman
Pronouns: She/her
Gender Expression:  Seonag is now at a point in her gender expression where she feels comfortable toying with both masculinity and femininity.  When she does play with masculinity, it’s more like she enjoys “looking masculine in a feminine way”.  She loves wearing baggy shirts, tripp pants, and beanies, but she also loves makeup and she will never pass up an opportunity to wear a pretty dress.  She no longer feels like she has to shift between “female/male-presenting” depending on the social context (she does not consider herself genderfluid or nonbinary), but rather she figured out what counts as “women’s clothing” to her.
Sexuality: Bisexual
Romantic Identity: Biromantic.
Preferences: Seonag mostly likes men who don’t challenge her with the threat of potential self-improvement.  She usually gravitates towards butch women.  She prefers to play a more submissive role in the bedroom and in relationships, but most of the people she dates want her to be more dominant (usually for fetish reasons), so she felt pressured to play along.
Experience: Seonag has a rocky love life, which usually manifests as her changing major parts of her sense of self and personality for her partner.   Most of her experience comes from hook-ups or short-lived relationships.  She doesn’t know if she’s interested in finding a long-term partner because she never allowed herself to consider that.  But as things are now, she’s doing fine on her own.
Nationality: Scottish
Race: Japanese
Reference--
Face Claim: Ataru Nakamura
Voice Claim: Shirley Manson
Religion: Christian (Church of Scotland)
Details: Seonag is still devoted to her church and religion.  She goes to church on Sunday (when she can), and she prays every night before bed and during challenging times (and especially before concerts).  Even though her faith is important to her, she tends to keep it to herself because her peers often assume she’s joking.  Also as a trans woman, she still has a complicated relationship with her church and some of the people who attend.  But the religion itself still brings her a sense of comfort and belonging, so she makes it work for her.
Appearance
Body--
Build:  Seonag has a long, lanky build with slightly-toned arms.  She has long legs and large hands and feet.
Height: 6’1
Skin (color, complexion, etc):  Seonag has fair skin with a golden undertone and she doesn’t tan.
Handedness: Left
Hair--
Color: Black
Texture: Straight, thick
Usual Styling: Kept down with straight bangs.  She grows her hair out over the course of the series (just above shoulders during season 1, reaches past shoulders during DSR).  Occasionally wears it up, but other than that she doesn’t do much with the styling.  Most products and curlers tend to slip right out.
Facial Features:  Seonag has a rather angular face, a long nose, full lips with a defined cupid’s bow, and narrow mono-lidded eyes.
Eye Color: Brown.
Misc: Seonag has sharp teeth.  Whether this is literal or artistic stylization is up to you.
Fashion Sense:
Clothes:  Wears a lot of black.  Band shirts, tripp pants, studded belts, leather jackets, fishnets, and combat boots.  She usually wears sweatpants or boxers around her flat, but she likes dressing up more for shows.  Loves leather.
Accessories: Her go-to eyepatch is a plain black one, but she designed custom patches for special occasions.  Also almost always wears a black choker of some kind.  She has gauges in her ears.
Styling:  Either a deliberate hot mess or an accidental hot mess.  She puts way more effort into her looks when she’s playing a show.  Her concert looks also tend to incorporate more traditional Scottish elements like tartan.
Misc: Seonag started sewing her own clothes because when she was early in her transition, she felt uncomfortable shopping in the women’s department (and it was sometimes hard for her to find clothes that fit her height).  To this day, she still creates most of her clothes or customizes them in some way, but now it’s out of a love for creating the clothes herself.
Personality
Personality Description: Off-stage, Seonag tends to come off as awkward and reclusive.  She’s not exactly shy, in fact, she often has a tendency to say the wrong thing.  She tends to keep her emotions bottled up behind a thick layer of sarcasm, impulsivity, and claims of being a “lone wolf”.  In reality, it’s very easy for Seonag to form connections (attachments) with people, but her fear of being abandoned prevents her from opening up.
Strengths:  Seonag has an acute level of emotional intelligence and she’s quick to stand up for her loved ones.  She’s a quick-thinker and she’s very good at surviving on her own.  She also has a good sense of humor about herself.
Weaknesses:  When Seonag puts her trust in someone, she has a tendency to bend to the whims of that person regardless of her own interests or comfort levels.  This is mostly to ward off the possibility of being abandoned.  She also has a bad habit of self-sabotaging her relationships/careers/etc because she’s afraid of failure, but failure feels inevitable.
Goals:  Find a new music project that inspires her.
Fears:  Abandonment, failure, public speaking (performing on stage doesn’t count).
Secrets:  When she sees that her former bandmates are performing in their new bands, Seonag will sometimes send anonymous “concerns” to the venue in the hopes of getting the show canceled.

Character Relationships
Italics = Just Seonag’s opinion since they never met.
Nathan Explosion: Very talented frontman.  Good voice.  Appears to be the most stable in the band.
Pickles the Drummer:  Kinda “knows” him because his sister-in-law is her roommate’s best friend.  Not too familiar with his work in the 80s, but she likes his drumming.
Skwisgaar Skwigelf: Studied his guitar solos like a scientist.  Utterly amazed by his work, and jealous of how pretty he is.
William Murderface:  Her roommate really likes Planet Piss, but Seonag doesn’t see the appeal.  Still likes Murderface and finds his antics/personality to be the most enjoyable.
Toki Wartooth:  Not Magnus.  0/10.  Jk, she thinks Toki’s fine.  She does like how the band’s work got more melodic after he joined, but she likes to be an edgy contrarian in the Dethklok forums by bringing up Magnus, so she keeps her enjoyment to herself.
Charles Offdensen: White guy in suit 0/10
Dick Knubbler: Had to get used to his style on Dethklok’s albums, but learned to like it.  Also wants to know where he got his cyber eyes.
Abigail Remeltindtdrinc:  Didn’t notice too much of a difference between her production work and Knubbler’s.  Thinks it’s kinda fucked up that she took the blame for Dethklok breaking up (never knew Abigail’s relationship with the band was anything other than professional).
John Twinkletits:  No way of knowing he exists.
Melmord Fjordslorn:  Saw that magazine cover about Dethklok getting a new manager, but hasn’t heard much else.  Her roommate swears she has seen him since, though.
Seth:  Knows he’s Pickles’ brother and covered his status as Dethklok Australia’s manager on her blog, but that’s about it.
Amber:  Has hung out with her, but only in the context of her being her roommate’s best friend.  Doesn’t know too much about her beyond that (and being Seth’s wife).
Dr. Rockso:  Admires his stage presence.  Aware of his past, but either way she’s not drawn to his sound.
Magnus Hammersmith:  When she heard Dethklok’s earlier demos and album, she was always drawn to his style.  This interest eventually morphed into a big stupid crush.  This loyalty didn’t stop her from auditioning to replace him (didn’t get the part).  She met Magnus sometime in 2008 when she interviewed him for her blog.  Magnus also knew her through her own band, and they were able to bond over getting kicked out of their respective groups.  Then they banged.  They kept in touch for a few years, but lost contact after Magnus became more involved with the Revengencers.  Seonag just assumed he had celebrity stuff to do.
Metal Masked Assassin: No way of knowing he exists.
Mr. Salacia: No way of knowing he exists.
Edgar Jomfru:  Was a big fan of the site he ran with his brother (diefordethklok was part of her blog’s webring), but when he dropped off the map Seonag just assume he lost interest.  Never looked into it.
Group Relationships
Dethklok:  Despite her trolling on forums, Seonag is legitimately a huge Dethklok fan.  She’s been to a couple of concerts, conventions, and she follows their activity.  She just thinks the really avid fans are hilarious.
The Revengencers:  Never learned that they were a legitimate group.  She always assumed they were a couple internet weirdos who took trolling Dethklok fans too seriously.
The Tribunal:  Doesn’t know they exist.  The idea of them feels like something one of her buddies would have come up with while high.
Snakes N’ Barrels:  They just exist as a footnote in Dethklok’s history to her.

Dreamcatchers Chap 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: jungkook x oc
Summary: DI Jeon didn’t need a new partner. Unfortunately, his superiors felt otherwise; especially considering the extremely high-profile murder that had just taken place in the port city. Recent transfer, DI Choi Yuri finds herself confronted with a new cityscape, unfamiliar people, a hostile partner, and a homicide that is certain to bring back unpleasant memories.
Genre/AU: fluff/action/mystery | detective! au | police!jungkook, police!oc
Word Count: 3.1k
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: mentions of violence, alcohol, blood, drugs, death. basically stuff you’d associate with a murder mystery/crime drama.
Chapters: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Acknowledgement: shoutout to @stutterfly for designing this beautiful banner which i am completely in love with and stare at for no particular reason throughout the day
A/N: here’s the first chapter! i had originally planned on posting the entire story as one post but it’s way too long so i’m breaking it up into multiple chapters. the story features a named oc because i’m still very unfamiliar with writing second person reader inserts. i’m not aiming for strict accuracy in this story, and all criminal investigation/forensics knowledge i have has been gathered by watching crime drama/procedural dramas! my knowledge of geography is also not totally accurate so apologies for that. once again, one thing right by @hobios prompted me to write a police inspector! jungkook story. would highly recommend reading that because it’s probably one of my most favorite pieces of writing!
16th December
Mornings began early in the Yeongdo district of Busan. Yuri realised this on her first morning in town, as her fitful sleep was broken around 5 in the morning. Perhaps the quiet bustle at the crack of dawn shouldn’t have surprised her too much, given how this was primarily a seaside town with a small port. Her work did not require her to arrive before 8 am so she decided to talk a stroll around the town, acquaint herself with some of the shops and people, and perhaps even grab a bite to eat.
Yuri’s best friend from high school - Kim Ahreum, lived in this town, and this was one of the few reasons why Yuri hadn’t protested violently against her transfer. That, and she hadn’t been given much of a choice from her superiors. Ahreum had texted her excitedly about how beautiful the sea port of Yeongdo was - full of beautiful parks, quirky shops, exquisite food, and fascinating people. Coming from Seoul, Yuri wondered how difficult it would be for her to adjust to a world that sounded so different from the one she was coming from. Ahreum herself was a doctor in training, while her older brother - Namjoon, was in his final year of graduate school, just a few months away from his second law degree. Yuri didn’t remember much of Namjoon as he had left for college by the time she and Ahreum had become friends in their second year of high school. Her limited memory told her that he was very well read, quiet, and taller than the most other boys in school.
“Hey! I haven’t seen you around before.”
Yuri looked around for the owner of the voice - a little girl with two tight pigtails, a bright red dress, and a look of suspicion and curiosity lining her face. The woman beside her - presumably her mother - looked appalled at the little girl’s statement and shushed her before apologising to Yuri.
“I’m so sorry, miss,” she said, bowing deeply. “Nayeong here doesn’t really know how to talk to elders!”
“That’s alright,” replied Yuri, returning the bow. She squatted down in front of Nayeong and looked straight into her eyes. “Hello, my name is Choi Yuri. I moved here yesterday. It’s nice to meet you, and I hope we can be friends.”
The little girl seemed to hesitate in her desire to outcast this stranger who had seemingly no qualms about being truthful and friendly. Yuri could see the indecisiveness flitting through her features and decided to try a different tactic.
“I’m quite hungry but since I don’t know any of the shops over here, I was wondering if you could tell me where I could get some fresh bread and pastries.”
At these words, Nayeong’s eyes lit up and any indecision she previously held disappeared. She grabbed hold of Yuri’s hand and her mother’s, pulling them along in the direction of the town’s center. A few minutes later, they came to a halt outside a cozy looking shop.
“‘The Moon’s Post Office’?” Yuri read the sign out loud, intrigued by the name.
“Seokjin oppa makes the best pastries in the world! Eomma, tell her!” Nayeong exclaimed, looking at her mother excitedly.
“Alright, alright,” her mother laughed. “Yes, Nayeong is right. Seokjin does make incredible pastries, breads, and desserts. It’s almost impossible to stop this one from visiting the shop every day.”
“Well then, I guess I’ll just have to go in and find out. Would you like to join me, Nayeong?” asked Yuri. She glanced at the older woman once, to make sure this request wasn’t out of line.
“Can I, Eomma?” asked Nayeong, excitedly.
“Of course! It’s always a good thing to help others out.” Nayeong squealed happily at her mother’s response and rushed inside.
“I’m Lim Seora, it’s nice to meet you,” said the older woman, once her daughter was inside.
“Choi Yuri,” Yuri responded, bowing deeply. “Thank you for accompanying me here.”
Once inside, Yuri felt her senses getting assaulted by a plethora of soft, sweet, refreshing smells. Nayeong was already at the counter, talking to someone about the different things she wanted. Yuri felt her throat go dry as she glanced at the person behind the counter. She had rarely seen anyone as handsome as the young man currently talking to Nayeong. His thick black hair kept falling over his forehead which he tried to remove with a gentle shake of his head, his plump pink lips pressed together in amusement as an oversized black and red cardigan hung off his rather broad shoulders.
“So that’s three blueberry scones, one orange muffin, and a bag of peanut butter cookies?” asked the young man, to which Nayeong nodded enthusiastically.
“Anything else?” he asked.
“I’ve brought a friend with me today. She’s hungry so can you make something tasty for her, Oppa?” responded Nayeong, pulling Yuri forward.
“Is that right? Hello, I don’t think we’ve met,” he said with a soft smile. “Kim Seokjin, I run this bakery.”
“Nice to meet you,” replied Yuri, bowing in greeting. “I’m Choi Yuri, I moved here yesterday.”
“Nice to meet you too! May I recommend the Snow Croissant?” said Seokjin, sweeping his hand dramatically over the display case.
“The ‘Snow Croissant’? What’s that?” asked Yuri, chuckling at his enthusiasm.
“It’s my take on the New Orleans Beignet and the French Croissant,” he replied, bringing out a golden flaky croissant dusted with powdered sugar.
Yuri took a bite of the pastry and gasped in surprise. The light crunch of the savoury croissant blended beautifully with the soft sweetness of the sugar dust, along with-
“A hint of lemon?” wondered Yuri, biting into the pastry absentmindedly.
“That’s fantastic! Not many people have been able to detect the subtle lemon flavour infused into the pastry dough,” replied Seokjin, looking extremely pleased. “Would you like anything else?”
“A coffee, please,” said Yuri, throwing the paper plate into the nearby dustbin. “To-go. And how much do I owe you?”
“It’s on the house,” replied Seokjin, with a wink. “Consider it a welcome present. Hope to see you around!”
“Oh…” Yuri flushed slightly at his generosity, but accepted it nonetheless. The clock inside the bakery chimed seven times, indicating that she had spent close to an hour with her new acquaintances.
“I should get going,” she said, taking the coffee cup from the counter. “Don’t want to be late on my first day of work. It was nice meeting you all. I hope we meet again, Nayeong!”

“You can’t be serious! Why the hell are you doing this?!”
Chief Inspector Goh pinched the bridge of his nose as he watched one of his best officers fly off the handle. 3 years into the force Detective Inspector Jeon had proven himself to be smart, capable, and extremely reliable. The only problem was a recent case which had slowly come to take over his life. Which was why, when Chief Inspector Goh had called him into the office to tell him that they were closing the case, DI Jeon had taken it a little too hard.
“Jeon, you are, first and foremost, a homicide detective. Granted that this disappearance was linked to a homicide you were investigating, but you need to let it go. There are other, more pressing, cases that require your attention. We need you back on the force full time. Let Lee handle the disappearance - it's his department. For now, I’m assigning you a new partner to work with. Especially-”
A knock on the door interrupted Chief Inspector Goh, followed by the entrance of an unfamiliar face.
“Right on time! That’s the kind of dedication we’re looking for over here,” said Goh with an appreciative nod. “Jeon, meet your new partner - Detective Inspector Choi Yuri. She’s just transferred here from Seoul. DI Choi, this is Detective Inspector Jeon Jeongguk - he’s one of our best men.”
DI Jeon scowled as he surveyed his new partner. She was tall, dressed in a plain shirt and slacks, her short hair tucked behind her ears. She gave him a small smile and bowed in greeting. In response, DI Jeon stomped out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
“I apologise on behalf of him,” said Chief Inspector Goh. “He isn’t usually this impolite. Really glad to have you join our team, DI Choi. You’ve had quite a number of impressive cases in Seoul, and we hope that you can continue working hard with all of us here.”
“Thank you, Chief Inspector. I will do my best,” said Yuri, with a small smile.
“Glad to hear that. Now,” he said, pulling out a thin case file from under a large stack of paperwork. “I need the two of you to head over to Manor House right now. Some officers are already at the scene, along with the forensics team. The body was found early this morning.”
“Have they identified the victim?” asked Yuri, checking how far Manor House was on her phone.
“Hmm. Kang Eunwoo, son of Kang Kiwoo, who owns the largest chain of hotels in Busan. So you can understand the situation.”
Yuri gulped softly, tucking her phone away and nodding her head slowly.
xxx
The entire ride to the crime scene was silent. Not the pleasant or comfortable kind of silence Yuri had always preferred over meaningless small talk. No, this was the stiff, suffocating silence that made her want to pitch herself out the car window. She was currently regretting not having driven to work - although she was still a bit exhausted from the nearly 5 hour drive from Seoul the previous night.
She didn’t know what to make of her new partner. When she was working in Seoul, her partner had been a 43 year old woman named Hwayoung. She was separated from her husband with whom she shared joint custody of their three kids, only drank low sugar milk tea, and talked a mile a minute while on the job. Some might have found Hwayoung a tad irritating, but Yuri had found a caring older sister in the ruthless and chaotic world of criminal investigation in the country’s capital. DI Jeon, in comparison, had yet to speak a word to her. The couple of routine questions she had asked him about the exact location and identity of the victim were met with heated silence.
The Kangs were incredibly wealthy - the type that could buy your family business in an instant and then gift it back to you without incurring any loss. The lavish mansion reeked of money, luxury, and carelessness that only accompanied an abundance of liquid cash. The victim had been found in the private meeting room on the ground floor. Being an extremely high profile case, there were already reporters trying to get a good picture from outside the mansion itself.
“Cause of death?” asked DI Jeon, kneeling down to get a better look at the body.
“Blunt force trauma to the back of the head. Death would’ve been instantaneous,” said the forensic doctor, removing her gloves and stuffing them into her coat pocket. She turned towards Yuri and gave her a small smile. “I don’t believe we’ve met. I’m Dr. Ahn Seulgi. I head the forensics team at the precinct.”
“Choi Yuri,” replied Yuri, bowing slightly. “I’m DI Jeon’s new partner.”
“Is today your first day at work?” asked Seulgi, with a surprised expression.
“Yeah, I just got transferred from Se-”
“DI Choi, need I remind you that there’s a body lying here?” snapped DI Jeon. “It would be better if you socialize on your own time.”
Yuri was taken aback by the anger in his tone. Even though she had worked in homicide for nearly 5 years now, her colleagues had always been polite and friendly with her. She didn’t really know how to respond to her new partner’s accusations.
“Calm down, DI Jeon,” said Seulgi, a frown settling on her forehead. “This isn’t socializing - we’re coworkers and it's impolite to not introduce yourself to each other.”
DI Jeon didn’t say anything more after that, but Yuri could feel the anger radiating off him. She was grateful to Seulgi for sticking up for her, but it didn’t look like she was going to have an easy time working with Jeon.
“Detective Inspector,” said another officer, approaching DI Jeon with a notepad. “I’ve just spoken to the staff. It seems there was a big party here last night. The victim had invited around 10-12 of his friends and they stayed till just before midnight.”
“Thanks, Jisoo. Ask Suho to get statements from all those who were present at the party last night. As well as where they went afterwards.”
“I will,” replied Jisoo, with a nod. “Mr. Kang is waiting for you in his office.”
Kang Kiwoo didn’t look like a seasoned businessman who had a 26 year old son. His face was young and his smile was extremely attractive, but, Yuri noticed, it didn’t reach his eyes. In fact, there was something inscrutable in his dark brown irises that disturbed her more than she liked to admit. Yuri had come to realise that a person’s eyes were the first to betray their true nature; and Mr. Kang’s eyes were almost vacant.
“My condolences, Mr. Kang,” began DI Jeon. “Please rest assured that we will do everything in our power to catch whoever is responsible for this.”
“Thank you, DI Jeon,” replied Mr. Kang with a smile. “I’m feeling reassured knowing that you are handling my son’s case. And you are?”
Yuri bowed once again and introduced herself. “DI Choi Yuri. I will also be working on your son’s case with DI Jeon.”
“Well then, how can I be of assistance? DI Jeon? DI Choi?”
“Could you please tell us more about the party that took place last night?” asked DI Jeon, not giving Yuri a chance to say anything. He had already sat down on one of the chairs, and Yuri decided that she would rather remain standing.
Mr. Kang frowned for the first time since the beginning of the meeting. “My son likes to- I’m sorry. Eunwoo liked to party quite a lot. I wasn’t fond of his lifestyle and I had told him of my views many times before. This isn’t the first time that he’s taken over an entire floor of our mansion to ‘entertain’ his friends.”
“You argued with your son last night,” continued DI Jeon, consulting the notes Jisoo had given him. “What was that about?”
“If you know that we argued, I’m sure you know what we argued about.”
“In your own words, if you will,” said DI Jeon, a forced smile gracing his features.
“I lost the use of my legs almost 3 years ago,” said Mr. Kang, leaning forward on his desk. “I expected my son to take over the company by the time he was 28. However, he didn’t seem in the least bit inclined to take any responsibility whatsoever. So last night, I told him I would disinherit him.”
“And how did he take that news?”
“I’m quite certain you’re not asking me to elaborate on the type of language my son used last night,” said Mr. Kang, with a slight smirk. “Because I’d prefer not to.”
DI Jeon stared at the man across from him who was proving to be much more difficult than expected. “Can you tell us what your movements were for the rest of the night?”
“I was in here, finishing some paperwork, until the party got over. I said goodnight to my son and retired for the night at around half past 12.”
“How did your son seem when you last saw him?”
“He was quite inebriated. I barely got a coherent reply from him. In hindsight, I should have stayed with him until he had fallen asleep. Maybe I could have prevented his death.”
“Why do you say that?” Yuri asked, speaking for the first time since introducing herself. DI Jeon shot her a glare before returning his gaze to Mr. Kang.
“If I had been with him until he fell asleep, he wouldn’t have gotten into a fight with the Park boy.”
“The ‘Park boy’?” asked Yuri, frowning slightly.
“Park Jimin. He came here last night. I heard his voice just before I closed the door to my room.”
“Are you saying Park Jimin killed your son?” asked DI Jeon. “Do you have any proof, Mr. Kang?”
“It is your job to find proof, DI Jeon. I’m merely stating what I know. The Parks are our long time rivals; I’m sure you’re aware of that. My son never got along particularly well with Park Jimin since they were in school. As far as I can tell, he was probably the last one to see my son alive.”
xxx
Yuri was currently at Ahreum’s apartment, having dinner in honor of her moving to Busan.
“I had such grand plans of taking you to the street food market on your first day here,” whined Ahreum. “But given how completely exhausted you look, this is the best alternative.”
“This is great, Ahreum. I haven’t soba noodles in such a long time. You’re actually a pretty decent cook.” Yuri grinned at her best friend, before slurping some noodles.
“I still can’t believe that a high profile murder took place the day you moved here. You really can’t catch a break, can you?” Ahreum sipped on her wine, while scrolling through her phone. “Social media is blowing up with this.”
“I’m just glad I could leave in time for dinner. The way Jeon was treating me, I thought he would make me file paperwork at the station the entire night.”
“I don’t really get that. Jeongguk’s a pretty decent guy. Why’s he being such a dick to you?” Ahreum asked, tying her long brown curls into a bun. “Namjoon’s known him since before I moved here. He only has good things to say about him.”
“Beats me,” shrugged Yuri. “But more importantly, where is Namjoon? I thought he’d be joining us for dinner today.”
“He’s still at the library.”
“It’s almost 11 pm.”
“Yeah, the library closes at midnight. He’ll probably come home after that.” Ahreum stretched her hands above her head before stifling a yawn. “He runs on very little sleep anyway.”
“Nice to see that hasn’t changed since I last saw him,” grinned Yuri, slipping on her shoes and getting ready to leave. “Thanks for dinner, Ahreum. I really needed this today.”
“Oh shut up! You know I’m always ready to feed you!” she replied with a wink. “Now go home and get some sleep.”
Sleep. That was the problem.

The sky was red when Jetta finally stepped off the drove road.
‘Shepherd’s delight,’ she said softly, with a humourless snort.
She turned up the pebble-and-dirt road that wend its way through the village, and towards home, still gazing upwards.
Clouds had been hanging low and thick over the village since Beltane, and even now, with Lammas fast approaching, the dour weather had yet to break. Jetta couldn’t bear to look at the fields, where the crops, stunted and blackened, withered in the dirt.
She’d heard whispers — the crops were rotten; their heads oozing an ochre sludge, their stems weeping like a wound when cut with a scythe.
Auld wives tales, her pa insisted.
But there was still something wrong.
The knowledge was a lump in Jetta’s throat which she could never quite swallow.
Pausing at the crest of the hill, she gazed back down the glen, half hoping to see Seoras and the cattle at her heel. But he was nowhere to be seen.
Of course he wasn’t.
She’d seen the glint in his eye when they parted at the bridge.
As they’d readied to part, Jetta had tweaked his tourie, tugged at the plaid around his shoulders. Seoras flapped his hands at her. ‘I’ll be fine,’ his tone was exasperated. ‘I bet Ma set you up to this. Tell her no to worry.’
‘How far south are you going?’ Jetta asked, with as much nonchalance as she could muster.
He shrugged. ‘Inverness, maybe. Crieff. Pa wants a good price for the beasts, ken?’
They could only shake their heads, exchanging knowing looks. The family’s once-healthy cattle were now little more than a rickle of bones. Their big dark eyes looked sunken and dull. Their udders, however, were chapped and swollen. They’d never stopped producing milk, though it came out sour and dark. Once it had been full of lumps.
‘How long will you be gone?’ Jetta asked.
Seoras had looked away down the glen before he responded. ‘I’ll be back before you know it. You’ll no even have time to miss me.’
But Jetta knew better than that. Seoras had always had a faraway look in his eyes. Before the loch had begun to run dry, she’d often seen him at the shore’s edge, waves lapping at his toes, his attention on the twinkling horizon line.
The drove road would take him to Inverness, yes. To Crieff. Or even further south — Edinburgh. England. Even once he’d sold the cattle, he would never outrun them. Their painful lowing would echo in his ears. Just as it did in hers.
Jetta would never see her brother again.
She glanced up once more at the red sky. The pale full moon was already peeking up above the distant hills. The village was quiet as she passed through, with only the thick, acrid smoke from the croft chimneys for company. Gooseflesh crawled up Jetta’s arms, and she rubbed at them distractedly.
She felt a surge of relief when the family cottage finally came into view. She hurried towards it, her skirts whispering against her legs. But, just as relief began to swell in her stomach, the sight of the door lintel made it turn.
Her heart hammering, Jetta stepped towards the door.
Curls of pale fresh wood clung to the ragged edges of fresh new gores. A circle, filled with a flower-like shape of six interlocking petals. The cuts were jagged and rough under Jetta’s fingertip. She frowned, and pushed open the door.
The air inside the cottage was thick and acrid. The smell of rotten milk and livestock still clung to the floors, no matter what Jetta did to scrub them clean. The sour tang of fever and unwashed bodies curled around her nostrils, and she grimaced. The curtain around her mother’s bed in the kitchen was closed, and her father sat by the dying fire in the grate, sucking thoughtfully on his pipe.
‘Pa, pass me the boot stop,’ Jetta said.
It was as though she had sluiced a bucket of water across his head. ‘Jetta!’ he said, almost breathlessly. ‘Where did you…’ then he breathed in deeply, and his eyebrows settled. ‘Your brother’s away, then?’
‘Aye. Pass us the boot stop. I want to open the door.’
‘Dinnae.’ Jetta was taken aback. It wasn’t his usual commanding tone. It almost seemed as though her father was pleading with her.
She opened her mouth to respond, but he nodded towards the bed.
‘She’s taken bad?’ The lump was back in Jetta’s throat.
Her father’s tanned face looked drawn. He’d aged a decade in just one summer. He ran a hand through his beard. ‘We cannae go on like this.’
‘Seoras’ll sell the cows. That should set us up for a while. We’ll get by.’ Jetta reluctantly closed the door.
He father chuckled hollowly.
‘We can’t live on air and empty hope, Jetta.’ Her father’s steepled fingers were dry and cracked. His knuckles were pronounced.
Jetta breathed out heavily, and shrugged off her cloak. ‘What did you do to the door lintel, Pa?’ she glared at him.
He looked away, almost guiltily. ‘What with Seoras leaving…your ma, she just…’
‘Someone told me that was all just auld wives tales,’ Jetta rolled her eyes.
Her father glowered at her. ‘It makes her feel better, lass. A wee charm never hurt anyone.’
‘Fresh air would make her feel better,’ Jetta countered.
He scoffed. ‘The air in this village is foul.’
‘Well, we could go—’ Jetta began, a prickle of hope flaring in her chest. She thought of Seoras and the drove road.
‘We cannae move her,’ her father snapped, an echo of his old self bubbling to the surface. ‘I will not lose another…’
A shard of ice embedded itself in Jetta’s heart. Just before the cattle had first began their pained keening, when their milk had gone bad…
‘Pa, the bairn wasn’t…’ she protested weakly.
He held up a hand to stop her. ‘We cannae move your mother.’
Perhaps it was the swampy, fever drenched air in the room that was making Jetta feel dizzy. She could feel a slick of sweat in the small of her back. ‘What would you…’
‘Tonight,’ her father said suddenly, pushing himself to his feet. He looked her in the eye. ‘I want you to stay in the cottage. I want you to keep a wee eye on your ma.’
Jetta narrowed her eyes. ‘Why tonight?’
Her father shook his head. ‘Do as I say, Jetta.’
‘Pa, if you’re planning something…’
Her father looked troubled. He glanced away, into the dying fire. Grasping the poker, he jabbed it violently into the grate. Spitting sparks, the embers began to glow more fiercely as he rattled them.
Jetta watched as they faded to nothing in the thick air.
‘Pa…’ she edged again.
Her father sighed, and dropped the poker. ‘There’s to be…’ he began, his voice petering out. ‘That is to say, I’ve heard talk…’
A crawling sense of unease clambered up Jetta’s spine.
‘They say it’s a witch.’ Her father finally found his voice.
Jetta’s laugh came out a half-hearted bark. ‘Just like your auld stories, aye?’ Her smile faded as she realised her father’s stony expression hadn’t lifted at all. ‘Pa, you couldn’t possibly believe…’
‘I don’t know what I believe any more, Janet,’ his tone was resigned. Jetta balked at the sound of her full name — her mother’s name. ‘I just don’t…’
‘A witch, though, Pa?’ Jetta shook her head, feeling as though her head was full of wool. Her tongue felt heavy in her mouth. ‘Who would…’
‘Hen Garry says auld Meggie Duncan was muttering black curses against him before the spring quarter day.’
‘Meggie Duncan?’ Jetta’s mouth was dry. ‘Who lives down by the water?’
Her father nodded stiffly. ‘Esther Johnstone says she heard Meg speaking in tongues after the kirk session a few weeks back. And, Padraig—’
‘Pa,’ Jetta shook her head. ‘Meggie Duncan wouldn’t hurt a fly.’
Her father’s sunken eyes glittered as he looked into the fireplace. ‘We’ll not make it through the winter without a harvest, Jetta,’ his face looked drawn, ‘You know that, Jetta.’ His voice was firm, and he crossed over to her, grasping her shoulders with his knuckles bone-white. ‘Promise me you’ll stay here tonight, Jetta. Please.’
Jetta glanced towards the window. The sky had faded to a dull grey, and the dark was gather.
‘Jetta?’
Before Jetta could respond, her mother woke with a tortured, throat-scraping scream.
Jetta’s mother wouldn’t touch her broth. She gasped out, begging for Seoras. Calling for the bairn. Jetta mopped her fevered brow, tried to remind her that the bairn was gone, tried to convince her that Seoras would return. She’d almost forgotten her father’s warning until she heard him tying on his boots. He wore an expression of resignation, and she noticed him slipping his hunting knife into his sock.
‘Mind what I told you, hen,’ he said quietly as he reached for the door.
‘Pa!’ Jetta fought to her feet. ‘Pa—’
Suddenly, she felt a bony hand grasp her wrist. She turned. Her mother’s dark blonde hair, flecked with silver, fanned out around her head on the pillow. Her skin was pale, sallow in the low-light, her lips pulled back from her gums as she spoke, her voice raw and cracking. Jetta paused, momentarily rooted to the spot as her mother’s brown eyes pulled into focus.
‘Let him go.’
The lock clicked as her mother faded back onto her pillow, her eyes closing and her breath evening to a steady rhythm.
Swallowing a horrified sob, Jetta lurched away from her mother’s bedside in the kitchen. With her feet feeling heavy on the end of her legs, she threw herself into the tiny bedroom she had always shared with her siblings. Seoras’s things had left with him. And the bairn…
‘Please,’ Jetta whispered, pressing her eyes closed. ‘Please…’
She reached underneath her straw mattress, and pulled out a small wooden box. With shaking hands, she unlatched the clasp, and the box opened with a creak.
Her breath catching, and her pulse fluttering in her throat, Jetta opened her eyes.
There, in the box, lay a tiny corn dolly. One thread of golden-blonde hair twined around the tiny straw girl’s belly, another was threaded through her round, twisted-straw head.
‘No,’ Jetta keened, her gorge rising. ‘Not again.’
It had been a single, harmless charm. Beltane was a day for blessings, for good health. The bairn’s large golden eyes had been so vibrant, even as the rest of her faded. Jetta had held her in her arms, and she felt so small. So weak.
A few drops of the morning dew, a couple of well-chosen words — it sounded so simple. It was simple.
It had not worked. Not really.
Grasping the corn dolly, Jetta ran back to the hearth. With her hand tight around the poker, she rattled the embers. With the other, she cast the straw girl into the fireplace, watching as the tongues of flame curled around the tiny arms and legs, eventually swallowing the tiny head.
‘I’m sorry,’ she whispered, watching the fire, her eyes burning. ‘I’m so sorry.’
From the village square, some distance away, came an ear-splitting shriek.
Yes it’s a witch hunt. But the moon’s full for nine months now, the cows give black milk and scream instead of moo, and we gave up harvest because the cut stalks cry and bleed. All the broomsticks are missing and last night I heard the scarecrow laugh. A witch hunt is the sensible thing to do.

okay let’s go! 🖊️🎶🖤☕️ for whichever character has been on your mind the most lately.
YAYAY TY … chose 2 for each ..
🖊️ BALLPOINT PEN — does your oc have any tattoos? do they want any (more) tattoos?
Giilvas has the titular golden rose tattoo .. starts on the side of his neck and weaves its way down his left side .. all golden yellow ink all rose flowers and leaves and thorns … he does get more post bg3 … a rapier down his spine ( this does get touched up often ) and a crescent moon on the inside of his wrist ( Wyll has a matching sun on the inside of his ) … he could be talked into many more but he is also indecisive as hell when it comes to tattoos
Lucian does ! Both bc he likes getting little designs just everywhere but some are because his patron demanded them , the throat tattoo is the biggest example .. he’ s also managed to sit thru a few tail tattoos to get little patterns wrapped around his tail . He’ s always open to more bc it is Fun
🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?
Seoras likes more folk and drinking songs . Things that involves the group and builds off of outside participation … he can’ t really play to save his life , he can hold a tune fairly well ! But he just likes the togetherness of the music .. easy to keep rhythm with
As a bard, Lucian has an appreciation for all types of music . He doesn’ t have one favourite , and his preferences shift everyday . Though , he is a flutist first , and usually ends up showing extra love to songs and musicians who also use a flute or a similar instrument .. pan flutes are always something he always enjoys seeing and hearing
🖤 BLACK HEART — has your oc killed or seriously wounded anyone before? have they broken someone's heart and/or broken someone's trust?
Omen . Well . Hard to not have killed and broken trust with his record . Especially as a Paladin , being seen as a beacon for hope and care only to turn around and be compelled by Bhaal to kill … yeah . He ended up killing the first friend he made outside of Menzoberranzan because there was no longer anything or anyone keeping the urge in line . He does carry the guilt everywhere and it Is killing him slowly so !
Giilvas is not new to having to kill . Both to protect others or to protect himself . He’ s made peace with the fact there are stains on his conscience and that he really isn’ t absolved of anything by feeling guilt so … he’ s learned to more past it . He’ s also broken people’ s trust , but only people he was never actually going to help anyways . Using his charisma to get what he needs and dealing with whatever he must afterwards ..
☕️ HOT BEVERAGE — does your oc prefer coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, water, or some other drink? how do they like to take this drink (ex. coffee with milk, hot chocolate with whipped cream, a specific kind of tea, etc)?
Danior is a nightmare in the drink department .. he is drinking Concoctions . Straight up toxins . Hot, bitter teas that are both a) an extremely acquired taste and b) could definitely make people ill at best if they have it . Coffee is also very dark , very bitter , and definitely mixed with something that makes it Worse . The most normal thing he drinks is fresh water
Seoras is used to drinking fresh milk , mostly from cattle , and he does go out of his way to purchase some whenever he can . Besides that , he goes for tea . He’ s used to making medicinal teas with a lot of honey to help with bone aches , sleep problems , muscle cramps , etc .. his teas are easy to drink , but can be a bit overly sweet on occasion ..

“.. so are you like a wereshark? Or what ?”
Tumblr media
"I don't think I've ever been called that before. All I know is that              it runs in the family, and we can't be away from the ocean." Seoras              admitted with a small shrug. "But we're not tied to a full moon like              werewolves, so I guess, we're just ..." He trailed off. "We have a              gift and you have a curse."

ok actually im going to take a tiny break from long post hell and say that since Seora is basically only a day person - like awake from sunrise to sunset and a lil bit around both) shes never been awake at midnight. but when shes in castle Dark Time, she gets to basically choose her sleep schedule. which is very fun for her. its a bit of control she gets.
then, a bit later on, after she’s been there for a while and she and Esther are friends (and likely after the first failed attempt by the Captain to get her back) Esther goes ‘ive got. some real good shit to show you. come on up’ and takes her to one of the balconies and its like. big ol full moon. seora’s like :O and then Esther goes ‘you havent seen anything yet’ and they watch for a while longer and Oh Shit Bitch its a Lunar Eclipse. Seora loves it. like this is shit she’s never seen personally. she’s only ever seen videos, and never from such a vantage point, overlooking vast foothills and mountains capped in snow, bathed in icy light. god. its so goooood. she absolutely loves it.
