Jim Cornette: A Wrestling Icon
In honor of Jim Cornette’s birthday, I wanted to write an article celebrating his storied career in professional wrestling.
Jim Cornette is a wrestling manager, agent, booker , promoter, trainer , photographer, color commentator, promoter, and a part time professional wrestler . He is also an author , wrestling historian, and the host of popular podcasts , ‘ The Jim Cornette Experience’, and ‘ Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru’ alongside producer and co-host, Brian Last. Cornette began his storied career in professional wrestling at the age of 14, working at the Louisville Gardens in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. He would have jobs such as a photographer, ring announcer , magazine correspondent, PR Correspondent, and a time keeper. Cornette also befriended Christine Jarrett, a wrestling promoter , and the mother of the promoter of the CWA ( Continental Wrestling Association ), Jerry Jarrett ( The father of Jeff Jarrett. Christine is Jeff’s grandmother.) . The CWA is also known as the Memphis Territory. The photos that Cornette took while in the Memphis Territory would be published regularly in a Japanese wrestling magazine , called ‘ Gong’. The photos would be a regular occurrence from 1977 to 1982.
In 1982, Jim Cornette would begin writing the programs for local arena shows , continuing to have his photography work published in popular wrestling magazines , and being a contributor to Championship Wrestling Magazine . Thus, the same year , Cornette would be hired as manager by Jerry Jarrett after attending a match between Jerry ‘ The King ’ Lawler and ‘ The Nature Boy ’ Ric Flair. Cornette would also state that this would be the first time he would be allowed to enter the locker room after being tolerated at live wrestling shows and TV tapings for almost ten years. Cornette would choose the name , James E. Cornette as the one he would use during shows. This was a tribute to promoter, James E.Barnett. On September 25,1982 , Cornette would make his debut as a manager for Sherri Martel , who would become a manager herself and later be known as ‘ Sensational Sherri’. Cornette adopted the gimmick of a spoiled rich kid turned clumsy manager who would be fired by his clients after their matches. Wrestlers in this angle would consist of Crusher Broomfield ( also known as Akeem and One Man Gang ) , and Dutch Mantell. Cornette would go on to make his Mid-South Wrestling debut in 1983 and manage the tag team, The Midnight Express. He would also adapt his signature tennis racquet. Cornette said that he got the inspiration for that from a movie. He would have feuds with stars such as Magnum TA before taking The Midnight Express to WCCW in 1984. They were looking for more bookings as they couldn’t get a huge rivalry with the Von Erich family . Therefore , they would leave Dallas, Texas, and head to Charlotte , North Carolina to Jim Crockett Promotions.
While in JCP, Cornette would lead The Midnight Express ( Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane ) , to success as the three time NWA United States Tag Team Champions. Nevertheless, Cornette would be known for the tennis racquet and his extremely loud mouth. He was a Heel manager as The Midnight Express were a Heel Tag Team. They would have to have a police escort making their way to ring and going back to the locker room at house shows as well as to the city limits due to being hated by fans. This was also a precaution to their safety due to worrying about being attacked by fans as well. Cornette would suffer a knee injury at Starrcade ‘ 86 after falling off of a scaffold. Cornette said the stunt went too far due to his fear of heights , also known as Acrophobia. This stunt happened during a match between The Midnight Express and The Road Warriors. Thus, Big Bubba Rogers ( Big Boss Man / Ray Traylor ) , an ally of The Midnight Express, would be the one to catch Cornette instead of Bobby Eaton after he fell. He became a Color Commentator in 1989 , while Jim Ross ( JR ) , would be the play-by-play commentator for JCP’s Saturday Night TV shows. He would also become a Booker for WCW the same year. He would return to WCW in 1993 after leaving in 1990 as a part of a talent trade with Smoky Mountain Wrestling ( SMW). He would manage The Heavenly Bodies ( Stan Lane and Tom Pritchard ) and feud with The Rock N Roll Express ( Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson ). He would start his own promotion, Smoky Mountain Wrestling , in 1991.
With SMW, Cornette would begin a partnership with Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation ( WWF) in 1993. Thus, SMW would have financial trouble and in November 1995, would shut down. Cornette would sell the promotion’s rights and videos to McMahon the same year . He would say that he chose the wrong time to start Smoky Mountain Wrestling due to a recession in the business.
While in the WWF, Jim Cornette would be a booker , color commentator, and a manager. He would be in his most well known role as a manager for being the American Spokesperson for the WWF Champion , Yokozuna, in 1993. He would be a full time employee of the WWF in 1996. He would take on the role of scouting talent and developing them for TV and house shows. Cornette would start his own Heel stable called, ‘ Camp Cornette ’ , which consisted of himself , Owen Hart , Yokozuna , Vader , and The British Bulldog ( Davey Boy Smith ). Cornette would become a full time color commentator in 1997. Therefore , he would leave the company the same year due to having conflicts with Vince Russo and Kevin Dunn. At the height of the Attitude Era, in 1998, he would return with a stable consisting of Barry Windham , The Rock N Roll Express, and Jeff Jarrett. They would be known as the NWA Invasion. He would also manage a new Midnight Express and Dan Severn. He would also provide color commentary the same year . Cornette would also participate in the Gimmick Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 17 in 2001.
Cornette would go on to be the head booker and part owner of Ohio Valley Wrestling ( OVW ) in 1999. OVW was the lead developmental territory for WWE before FCW ( later to be known as NXT.). He would influence the careers of John Cena, Randy Orton , Batista , and Brock Lesnar as they were training there. He did the same for stars from the Attitude Era such as Al Snow, Sunny , D’ Lo Brown , and Kane in SMW. He would be let go from WWE in 2005 after being involved in two separate incidents . One being slapping Anthony Carelli ( WWE Legend and TNA Director of Authority, Santino Marella. He is the father of WWE NXT Wrestler and Liasion , Arianna Grace ). He would also appear in TNA , ROH, and ECW. He would return to OVW in 2010. He would make an appearance in What Culture Pro Wrestling ( WCPW ) in 2016 and 2017. He would make appearances in WWE from 2017 to 2020 and return to TNA in 2017. Cornette would also appear in NWA in 2018 and 2019 before appearing in Major League Wrestling ( MLW ) in 2019. He retired from managing in 2017 and announcing/color commentary in 2019. He would go on to make a numerous appearances on ‘ Dark Side of The Ring ’.
Jim Cornette’s most well known match would be with Paul E.Dangerously ( Paul Heyman ) in a Tuxedo Match in 1989 at the Great American Bash in WCW. He would be defeated by Dangerously.
Jim Cornette is considered one of the greatest managers of all time according to fans, including myself.
My Final Thoughts:
Jim Cornette is a legend of professional wrestling. In my opinion, he deserves to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. To me , he has one of the most storied careers and it amazed me how he paid his dues in the business at a young age. I also admire how he honest he is about wrestling now and on DSOTR. Knowing he is a wrestling historian , I’ve studied him and he is also a reason I started this blog . So, happy birthday, Jim! Hope it’s a good one!
Love You All,
- Kay

REVIEW: Central States Wrestling – Bad Moon Rising (2023)
A Live Wrestling Event by CSW Continuing on my tour of every National Guard Armory in the State of Kansas, the subject of this review, Central States Wrestling – Bad Moon Rising, hailed from Olathe, Kansas this time due to a last-minute venue change. Luckily, everything fell into place, and fans were treated to yet another solid show over the holiday weekend. Holidays are always kind of dicey…

I am so horribly disappointed by the Paris Olympics, I can't even frame a sentence without having to take a pause to just scream in fury.
Vinesh Phogat from India was the first wrestler ever, man or woman, to reach the finals and have the opportunity to play the Indian National Anthem at the Olympics. She usually always played in the under 53kg category but due to some issues, she went with under 50kg.
She then went on to ANNIHILATE all competition by winning so wonderfully, it made all Indians proud. She won the semifinals, progressed to finals and even had an opportunity to win it. However, at night, she realised she'd gained roughly 3kg and wouldn't be able to participate with that weight. She ran on a treadmill with thick jackets on, sat in a hot sauna, didn't eat or drink anything and, in desperation, cut her hair off. After all this effort, her reading was 50.1kg and she was eliminated from the Olympics.
The weight of 100g pushed her back to the last position, not even letting her get her well-deserved silver medal. Due to severe dehydration, she fainted on the venue and was later admitted in a hospital. Just today, she announced her retirement.
In spite of not winning the gold medal, she is a champion, not only because of her other accomplishments, but because of her relentless support and participation in the wrestlers' protest against the then chief of Wrestling Federation of India for sexual harrasment. She spent months on the streets of New Delhi to get the government to do something and nearly threw all her medals in the River Ganga to get the authorities to act. She was a champion through and through. Gold medallist or not, she truly is gold.

“Basketball Ireland informed Fiba Europe yesterday that as a direct result of recent comments made by Israeli players and coaching staff – including inflammatory and wholly inaccurate accusations of antisemitism, published on official Israeli federation channels – that our players will not be partaking in traditional pre-match arrangements with our upcoming opponents,” it said. It added that it fully supported the players’ decision to shun courtesies such as the exchanging of gifts and handshakes before and after Thursday’s game. The players also lined up for the national anthem by their bench, rather than centre court. In recent weeks the women’s team had been wrestling with calls to boycott the match, which had been originally slated to be played in Israel in November but was postponed and moved to Riga after Basketball Ireland requested a neutral venue. Several high-profile sporting figures had backed the call, with pressure on the players ramping up after the Israel Basketball Association shared photos from a practice session that included a visit by soldiers from the Israeli Defence Force. Basketball Ireland said late last month that it had raised “strong concerns” about the fixtures with Israel to Fiba Europe and that it had floated the possibility of forfeiting the games. The organisation said it had been told, however, that it could face up to €180,000 in fines and face expulsion from EuroBasket this year and in 2027 for doing so.

Y’all need to hear about Vinesh Phogat
She’s legendary in more ways than one!
Yesterday , she became the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for Olympic finals. she won the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics against Japanese Yui Susaki, who is a legend in the sport herself, and the reigning Olympic champion.
Tumblr media
This victory is very personal for a lot of women in India.
Vinesh isn’t just a legendary sportsperson, she’s also an outstanding Indian citizen who led protests against the corrupt chief of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
He stood accused of sexual misconduct and intimidation of wrestlers. Vinesh, she along with fellow wrestlers led protests, seeking his removal as president, from Jan till at least Jun 2023.
Some wrestlers (including a minor if I’m not wrong) eventually filed a case against him, but not before suffering incredibly dehumanising treatment from state institutions and bad faith commentators.
The wrestlers were manhandled and (imo wrongfully) arrested by the Indian police for holding a peaceful protest march. The odds were massively stacked against them in an obviously corrupt system.

“We fear for our lives. If he [Singh] is not sacked, then the careers of all the young wrestlers who joined the dharna [protest] will be over,” the wrestlers once wrote in a letter to the Indian Olympic Association.
Phogat also said they were receiving death threats.
It was only after the matter garnered national interest that the ruling party in India, of which Singh was an MP, reluctantly distanced themselves publicly from Singh.
Meanwhile, the wrestlers were relentlessly slandered on social/ legacy media by politically extremist commentators. Today a lot of those bad faith actors are hailing her victory as the country’s victory. Laughable, really.
After her win against Susaki, one of her fellow wrestlers and protesters, Bajrang Punia wrote on X,
“This girl was kicked and crushed in her own country.
This girl was dragged on the streets in her country
This girl is going to conquer the world but she lost to the system in this country.”
[translated from Hindi]
Singh, who was presiding for 12 years, was eventually removed from his position but afaik, he has not yet been charged for any crimes, trial is ongoing, I’m not up to date on that.
But there were credible reports citing ongoing intimidation against the wrestlers to dissuade them from litigating against Singh. I think one of the wrestlers, presumably the minor, has already been intimidated into withdrawing their case.
I don’t want to cite statistics on how hard it is for victims of SA to find justice through due process. You can look it up, it’s neigh impossible everywhere, but especially in India. The strength of character it takes to fight against all odds, against the very system that is meant to support you and be the best version of yourself, must be incredible.
Tumblr media
She’s a story of hope for the rest of us.
So proud of her. So thankful for her!

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
August 30, 2024
Heather Cox Richardson
Aug 31, 2024
Trump and the MAGA movement garnered power through performances that projected  dominance and cowed media and opponents into silence. Rather than disqualifying him from the highest office in the United States, Trump’s mocking of a disabled reporter, bragging about assaulting women, and calling immigrants rapists and criminals seemed to demonstrate his dominance and strengthen him with his base. In July the Republican National Convention celebrated that performance with a deliberate appropriation of the themes of professional wrestling, including a display by an actual professional wrestler.
Their plan for winning the 2024 election seems to have been to put forward more of the same.
But the national mood appears to be changing. President Joe Biden’s decision to decline the Democratic nomination for president opened the way for the Democrats to launch a new, younger, more vibrant vision for the country.
Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, have promised to continue, and even to expand slightly, the programs that under the Biden-Harris administration have started the process of rebuilding the country’s infrastructure, bringing back manufacturing, and investing in industries to combat climate change. As the country did before 1981, they are promising to continue to focus on supporting a strong middle class rather than those at the top of the economy.
Harris and Walz are building on this economic base to recenter the United States government on the idea of community. They have deliberately rejected the identity politics that Trump used so effectively to assert his dominance and have instead emphasized that they see the country not as a community defined by winners and losers, but as one in which everyone has value and should have the same opportunities for success.
Last night, CNN’s Dana Bash asked Harris, whose mother immigrated to the U.S. from India and whose father immigrated from Jamaica, to respond to Trump’s suggestion that she “happened to turn Black” for political advantage, “questioning a core part of your identity.” Harris responded: “Same old, tired playbook. Next question, please,” and she laughed. “That’s it?” Bash asked. “That’s it,” Harris answered.
Harris’s refusal to accept the MAGA terms of engagement, along with the exuberant support for Harris and Walz, has Trump, Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, and MAGA Republicans reeling. That, in turn, has made them seem vulnerable, and that vulnerability is now opening up room for pundits from a range of outlets to challenge them. They seem to be losing the ability to control the public conversation by asserting dominance.
This change has been evident this week in the response to Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery with the family of a soldier who died in the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan three years ago for campaign videos and photos attacking Harris, despite the fact that federal law prohibits campaign activities in the cemetery, in what is widely considered hallowed ground. The moment almost passed unnoticed, as it likely would have in the past, but Esquire’s Charles Pierce asked in his blog: “How The Hell Was Trump Allowed To Use Arlington National Cemetery As A Campaign Prop?”
Led by NPR, different outlets begin to dig into the story, and Trump, Vance, Trump’s spokesperson, and Trump’s campaign manager Chris LaCivita all tried to brush off their lawlessness with their usual rhetoric. Trump tried to change the subject to say he was being unfairly attacked for supporting a military family. Vance tried to suggest that Harris should have attended the private ceremony and that for criticizing it she should “go to hell,” although she hadn’t commented on it. The spokesperson suggested that the female cemetery official who tried to stop them was experiencing a “mental health episode,” and LaCivita, a leading figure in the Swift Boat veterans’ attacks on John Kerry in 2004, reposted an offending video to “trigger” Army officials, he said.
It hasn’t flown. Today, MSNBC’s Dasha Burns asked Trump directly: “Should your campaign have put out those videos and photos?” Trump answered: “Well, we have a lot of people. You know, we have people, TikTok people, you know we’re leading the Internet. That was the other thing. We’re so far above her on the Internet….” Burns interrupted and followed up: “But on that hallowed ground, should they have put out the images…?” Trump said: “Well I don’t know what the rules and regulations are, I don’t know who did it, and, I, it could have been them. It could have been the parents. It could have been somebody….”
Burns interrupted again: “It was your campaign’s TikTok that put out the video.” Trump answered: "I really don't know anything about it. All I do is I stood there and I said, 'If you'd like to have a picture, we can have a picture.' If somebody did it; this was a setup by the people in the administration that, 'Oh, Trump is coming to Arlington, that looks so bad for us.’"
In the days since Biden stepped out of contention, Trump has been flailing—often complaining that it is “unfair” that Biden isn’t his opponent any longer—but his behavior has rocketed downhill since the new grand jury delivered a new indictment revising the four charges against him for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and install himself in power. Karen Tumulty wrote in the Washington Post today that Trump is “spiraling,” noting that in the space of 24 hours he posted about Harris engaging in a sex act, promoted QAnon slogans, and called for prison for his political opponents.
Tumulty notes that Trump’s team has been trying to get him to focus on the issues voters care about, but that after he “listlessly delivers some lines from the teleprompter,” he “gets bored and begins recycling the rants from his rallies.” Harris has stayed silent about his behavior, Tumulty says a campaign staffer told her, because “Why would we step in this man’s way?” The Harris campaign wants microphones left on throughout the planned September 10 debate, expecting that Trump will not be able to contain the rants that used to serve his interests but now turn voters off.
To Vance is left the job of trying to clean up after Trump, but he’s not a skilled politician. Asked by John Berman about Trump’s social media attacks, Vance suggested that Trump was bringing “fun” and “jokes” to politics to “lift people up.” But observers on social media noted that claiming that attacks are “jokes” is a key part of asserting dominance.
Vance himself went after Harris by saying that he had an early version of Harris’s CNN interview and then posting an old meme of a young Miss Teen USA who appeared to panic when answering a question and produced a nonsensical answer. When Berman told him that the young woman contemplated self-harm after becoming a national joke and asked if he would like to apologize for bringing up that old video, Vance declined to apologize, suggested we should “laugh at ourselves,” and repeated that we should “try to have some fun in politics.”
Vance got into deeper trouble, though, when asked to explain Trump’s statement when he told Dasha Burns that he opposes Florida’s six-week abortion ban. This November, Floridians will have to vote yes or no on a constitutional amendment that would put abortion rights similar to those of Roe v. Wade into the state constitution.
Trump’s opposition to that amendment reflects the political reality that abortion bans are unpopular even in Republican-dominated states, but the MAGA base is fervently antiabortion. “That ‘thump thump’ you just heard is the entire pro-life movement going under the bus,” one wrote.
A campaign spokesperson promptly tried to walk the statement back by saying that Trump “has not yet said how he will vote on the ballot initiative in Florida,” which Vance reiterated on CNN. When Berman pressed him on it, though, Vance appeared to lose the ability to hear the question, suggesting the feed was bad.
This afternoon, Trump announced he will side with the antiabortion activists and vote against the amendment to the Florida constitution that would restore the rights that were in Roe v. Wade. Harris and Walz, meanwhile, have announced a national bus tour to highlight reproductive freedom. It will start in Palm Beach, Florida, where the Trump Organization’s Mar-a-Lago property is located.
Today, lawyers for Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the election workers Trump ally Rudy Giuliani defamed by accusing them of fraud in the 2020 election, asked a federal court to enforce the judgment that awarded them $146 million. They have asked for a court order requiring Giuliani to turn over his properties in New York and Florida, his luxury car, and his personal valuables including three New York Yankees World Series rings. Giuliani’s spokesperson accused the women of bullying Giuliani.
The Lincoln Project, which believes that needling Trump is the best way to rattle him, today released a video that portrays Trump as a predatory animal who is old, past his prime, and abandoned by his pack. Rather than engaging in his final hunt, he has found himself the prey. The voice-over intones: “The circle of life eventually closes on all things.”

You ain't raise the Federal minimum wage.
You ain't erase student debt
You didn't place rent or interest caps
You didn't protect affirmative action and positions of Diversity and Inclusion at a federal level
You didn't protect our rights as citizens to our personal bodily autonomy
You didn't protect People of Color
You didn't respect and act accordingly to tribal treaties with MULTIPLE Native American tribes.
You allowed the 90% complete erasure of the separation of Church and State violating MILLIONS of citizens religious and cultural freedom rights
You allowed, as defined by both domestic and global law, cruel acts of inhumanity against immigrants, refugees, and minority citizens of this country. At federal, state, and local levels
You allowed those immigrants interment camps to remain
You allowed further millions of Americans to die from a public health crisis
You allowed further degradation of our already fragile and corrupt systems of regulations for the things we need to have in order to survive and provide for our familes
You allowed the continued progress of militarized police brutality and the devaluing of justice
You allowed the economy to turn to absolute shit for anyone not a fucking millionare
You are ACTIVELY FUNDING AND BACK MULTIPLE GENOCIDE THAT AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT FUCKING WANT TO DO!!!
You are ACTIVELY ALLOWING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DOMESTIC MILITARIZED FASCISM AGAINST AMERICAN CITIZENS
You are ACTIVELY ALLOWING THE POWER OF VOTING TO BE RENDERED NEAR NULL AND VOID BY IGNORING AND NOT FEDERAL BANNING ACTS OF GERRYMANDERING
You are ACTIVELY AVOIDING THE REASONABLE MEASURES THAT NEED TO HAPPEN AT A NATIONAL LEVEL TO PREVENT OUR PLANT FROM BEING UNHABITABLE IN 40 YEARS
Every campaign promise you declared, has failed. Spectacularly and Exponentially, fallen on your face, failed to accomplish. To the point you have grossly lied and coved up most of atrocities and violations of citizens rights, then have the nerve to gaslight the nation as evidence is live streamed to us.
This statement covers more than either of those two old white privilege fucks about to thumb wrestle over whose turn is it to helm the final stage of America's fascism. This about all the politicians in Congress, in State Houses, in Mayors Office, who fill their pockets, lie, and sell out the citizens that trusted them to do the right thing. To actually want to improve our nation and communities for the longevity of our nation.
And for any blue or red coated muthafucka wearing the white glazed goggles of white supremacy wants to argue me bout "lesser of two evil" as the Black ass and Indigenous ass daughter of a man who march in the Million Man March and has been protesting since shes was 11 please fuck all the way off.

Mr. No. 01 : All About George South And My Personal Experience With Him
Hey Everyone! I wanted to write this special article for a legend whom I’ve met multiple times! The legend is , ‘ Mr. No. 1 ’ , George South . I wanted to write this because today is his birthday!
George South has been wrestling since 1984. He made his in ring debut the day after Christmas, which was December 26, 1984 at Championship Wrestling from Florida ( CWF). He was in a tag team with his partner being Mike Allen. They took on the team of Pretty Young Things , which consisted of WWE Hall Of Famer Koko B. Ware and Norvell Austin. However , South and Allen lost the match. South’s next wrestling appearance was in Bill Watts’ Mid- South Wrestling. Mid-South Wrestling was rebranded into the Universal Wrestling Federation ( UWF ) in 1986. South was in a tag team with Rocky King in a match against Kamala in a Two-On-One match in 1985. The same year , South found his way to Jim Crockett Promotions and made his debut on the Inaugural episode of World Championship Wrestling ( later to be known as WCW Saturday Night ) on April 6,1985.
On the episode of WCW, George South would team with Greg Stone to face the team of Ivan Koloff and Krusher Khruschev. A week after making his debut, he would face Magnum TA , the most popular wrestler in JCP. This was his first singles match, Magnum would defeat him. Thus , he would have his very first match against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, ‘ The Nature Boy ’ Ric Flair , on June 1,1985. This match would be a non-title match , which meant that Flair wouldn’t have to defend his championship. Flair would go on to say that South was his favorite Enhancement Talent to work with and praised him for being a Great Worker. On September 14,1985 , South would earn his first victory against Mack Jeffers. He would also work for Georgia Championship Wrestling and would also become the NWA Junior Georgia Heavyweight Champion in 1986 as he continued to work for JCP. He would also appear in Central States Wrestling out of the Midwest. Central States Wrestling was an affiliate of the NWA in the Heart of America/ Central States Territory. His appearances there would be in the Fall of 1986. He would have matches against talents such as Colt Steel and Mark Fleming. South would form a tag team with Gary Royal upon his return to Mid Atlantic Wrestling. They would be known as the Gladiators , Cruel Connection, and the Mexican Twin Devils. They would be masked and would be an Enhancement Tag Team. South would continue to wrestle for JCP.
In August of 1988, George South would debut for the World Wrestling Federation ( WWF). He did so as he continued working for JCP. He was used as an Enhancement Talent in a match for the Honky Tonk Man for ‘ WWF Wrestling Challenge’. He would also wrestle against The Blue Blazer on the same show on August 24, 1988. This match would mark Owen Hart’s first TV match for the WWF. He would have matched against talent such as The Ultimate Warrior, The Rockers ( Marty Janetty and Shawn Michaels) , Jake ‘ The Snake ’ Roberts, Sam Houston, and many other popular WWF wrestlers . His final appearance for the company would be in 1990. Thus , he would also appear in WCW once more. He would have matched against The Great Muta and other talent such as Johnny B. Badd ( Marc Mero). George South would find his way back to the WWF in 1993 at a taping against Tatanka. Thus ,a year later, he would face Tatanka on the January 17,1994 episode of Monday Night RAW. In February, he would face Doink The Clown. In April , he would go against Lex Luger. He made his final WWF appearance in 1996 , being in a match against Jake Roberts on ‘ Superstars ’.
George South would join the PWF ( Pro Wrestling Federation) in 1991 as he was continuing to work in WCW. He would become the PWF Junior Heavyweight Champion in the Summer of the same year. He also reconnected with Gary Royal and Cruel Connection was reformed. South was crowned the PWF World Heavyweight Champion in 1995 after defeating Star Ryder. He also made an appearance in Jim Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling. In 1999, South would open his own wrestling promotion, Exodus Wrestling Alliance. He is a born again Christian and says one of his greatest accomplishments is giving Hulk Hogan a tract to help him with his faith. He often gives these out to fans at any show he is booked at. South also works with legends such as Nikita Koloff at Christian based wrestling shows. As a Heel , South says that he doesn’t use profanity, or become vulgar in order for fans to boo him. He also uses his style of wrestling to salute the wrestlers of the past such as Blackjack Mulligan.
George South is also affiliated with AML Wrestling. He made his NWA return in 2019 in a dark match against Colby Corino. This was before the taping of the December 15,2019 episode of ‘ NWA Powerrr ’. He also trains new wrestlers at Rings Wrestling Training Facility. South has trained wrestlers such as Tessa Blanchard , the daughter of Tully Blanchard and the stepdaughter of Magnum TA.
My Personal Experience With George:
George South is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I first met him back in 2022. I’ve also learned a few things about the business from him, and I’m not even an in ring talent. I got to work his merch stand at a show one night and it was an honor to do so. I even got to watch him perform in the ring and it was excellent! I have to say , he’s a great Heel and an even better person. He’s also pretty fun to watch in a deathmatch. So, happy birthday, George! Love ya! - Kay
