Outside of the United States, some unions and indigenous groups have come together as allies in combating the harms of capitalism and settler colonialism, recognizing the shared mission of unions and indigenous communities as power-building institutions. Solidarity is the core value of the labor movement; a motivating sentiment of organized labor is the conviction that “[a]n injury to one is an injury to all.”
This value is not always reflected in American unions’ relationships to Native nations. Using language that echoes countless employer reactions to union campaigns, the AFL-CIO has stated that it supports “the principle of sovereignty” for Native nations while advocating for the United States government to assert control over tribal-labor relations. Twenty-first-century American unions have positioned themselves as tools for combating racist power structures. Yet even as Native income per capita is less than half of the national average, unions have exploited fears of “rich Indians” to garner support from non-Native workers. And unions, through litigation, have encouraged and benefited from courts’ racist preconceptions of “Indianness” in setting the boundaries of acceptable exercises of sovereign power.
It does not serve the mission of the labor movement to benefit from these wrongs. As union leaders and labor activists fight for a world in which power is redistributed away from the hands of the few, solidarity requires that those efforts be situated within the broader context of genocide, systematic dispossession, and the destruction of Native sovereignty. When unions approach organizing in the tribal context as a fight over NLRB jurisdiction, they seek to build worker power at the expense of Native self-determination. But power-building is not a zero-sum game. By centering tribal organizing on disputes over Board jurisdiction rather than turning to tribal labor law as a first choice, unions miss the opportunity to engage collaboratively with Native nations to build institutions that better serve both.

Extremely hard to swallow pills for the Western far Left:
The only reason Latin and Southern American countries can act like they're the victims of oh-so-evil US imperialism is because the native owners of those countries are all dead. The US American people are descendants of British colonists. Latin and Southern American peoples are descendants of Spanish colonists. The Spanish were far more thorough in their eradication of Natives, hence none of them protesting this misuse of a victim role.
The idea that imperialism and racism are bad was not invented by Brits, but it was popularized in the Western world by Brits.
Socialism was invented by Germans and Brits.
The French revolution may have been a bloody act of democracy, but didn't work. Napoleon and his Grande Armee used the chaos to declare themselves Emperor.
The Soviet Union was not a victim of capitalism, but collapsed because Communism does not work. It was also corrupt beyond belief, and its collapse has led to ex-Soviet countries, especially russia, becoming even more capitalist than before the establishment of the Soviet Union.
The People's Republic of China is less Chinese than the Republic of China aka Taiwan. The PRC was established in 1949 by Mao Zedong and his Chinese Communist Party, and Chinese nationalists fled to the island of Taiwan, establishing an exile government. They are the same people with the same culture, but mainland China is arguably less Chinese, because the CCP constantly revise historical records to suit their propaganda.

#Turkey Buzzard
This Buzzard has been hovering the edge for like 30 minutes in front of us while we were having lunch at aprx. 1800 feet high… so clearly he wasn't looking for a carcasse but more to keep an eye on us, I would say. And I know well, there is a very old cave just underneath us, like a 100 feet below and these guys will frequently use caves for their nesting periods. So I wouldn't be surprise that our friend presently here uses that cave.

Wait wait wait,
Consider: Cecil would both know and not know, specifically because it has some batshit other meaning in Night Vale. It comes up on the show one day and at first it sounds like he's talking about unions as we know them until something is said that gives it away. Carlos texts him like "Cecil what the FUCK are you talking about"

the funny thing is that i don't think younger people - and i mean those under the age of 40 - really have a grasp on how many of today's issues can be tied back to a disastrous reagan policy:
war on drugs: reagan's aggressive escalation of the war on drugs was a catastrophic policy, primarily targeting minority communities and fueling mass incarceration. the crusade against drugs was more about controlling the Black, Latino and Native communities than addressing the actual problems of drug abuse, leading to a legacy of broken families and systemic racism within the criminal justice system.
deregulation and economic policies: reaganomics was an absolute disaster for the working class. reagan's policies of aggressive tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, and slashing social programs were nothing less than class warfare, deepening income inequality and entrenching corporate greed. these types of policies were a clear message that reagan's america was only for the wealthy elite and a loud "fuck you" to working americans.
environmental policies: despite his reputation being whitewashed thanks to the recovery of the ozone layer, reagan's environmental record was an unmitigated disaster. his administration gutted critical environmental protections and institutions like the EPA, turning a blind eye to pollution and corporate exploitation of natural resources. this blatant disregard for the planet was a clear sign of prioritizing short-term corporate profits over the future of the environment.
AIDS crisis: reagan's gross neglect of the aids crisis was nothing short of criminal and this doesn't even begin to touch on his wife's involvement. his administration's indifference to the plight of the lgbtq+ community during this devastating epidemic revealed a deep-seated bigotry and a complete failure of moral leadership.
mental health: reagan's dismantling of mental health institutions under the guise of 'reform' led directly to a surge in homelessness and a lack of support for those with mental health issues. his policies were cruel and inhumane and showed a personality-defining callous disregard for the most vulnerable in society.
labor and unions: reagan's attack on labor unions, exemplified by his handling of the patco strike, was a blatant assault on workers' rights. his actions emboldened corporations to suppress union activities, leading to a significant erosion of workers' power and rights in the workplace. he was colloquially known as "Ronnie the Union Buster Reagan"
foreign policy and military interventions: reagan's foreign policy, particularly in latin america, was imperialist and ruthless. his administration's support for dictatorships and right-wing death squads under the guise of fighting "communism" showed a complete disregard for human rights and self-determination of other nations.
public health: yes, reagan's agricultural policies actually facilitated the rise of high fructose corn syrup, once again prioritizing corporate profits over public health. this shift in the food industry has had lasting negative impacts on health, contributing to the obesity epidemic and other health issues.
privatization: reagan's push for privatization was a systematic dismantling of public services, transferring wealth and power to private corporations and further eroding the public's access to essential services.
education policies: his approach to education was more of an attack on public education than anything else, gutting funding and promoting policies that undermined equal access to quality education. this was, again, part of a broader agenda to maintain a status quo where the privileged remain in power.
this is just what i could come up with in a relatively short time and i did not even live under this man's presidency. the level at which ronald reagan has broken the united states truly can't be overstated.

Two Rare Parrots Sent From Different Zoos So They Might ‘Fall in Love’ and Save Species With Just 300 Wild Birds Left
— By Good News Network | Jul 13, 2024
Two of the World’s Most Endangered Parrots have been united as part of a breeding program to help save the beautiful species from extinction.
The pair of Red-Fronted Macaws have arrived at Twycross Zoo in Leicester, England, with the hope they will “Fall In Love” and breed—adding to the total number of fewer than 300 Remaining in the Wild.
Native to Bolivia, the macaws are one of the most endangered species of parrot on the planet, currently listed as “Critically Endangered” on the International Union For Conservation of Nature Red List.
The bird donations from the Welsh Mountain Zoo and Edinburgh Zoo were arranged as part of a European Conservation Program that called it an “Important Milestone” in their global effort.
Assistant Bird Curator Rhys McKie was previously working at Edinburgh Zoo when one of the Macaws was hatched there last year.

Twycross Zoo’s new red-fronted macaws – SWNS
“It’s always an exciting day when a new animal arrives at the zoo but being reunited was a really special moment.
“When he hatched it was the first time in over 15 years that the species had been successfully bred at the zoo.
“So, to now give him a home at Twycross Zoo where he will continue the conservation journey and hopefully breed more of this rare species, is very momentous for me.”
The species stands out for their bright red forehead of feathers and long blue-green tail.
In the wild, these parrots can only be found in a small semi-desert, mountainous region of Bolivia, making them unique amongst macaws.
In this arid climate, the birds feed on desert plants like cactus and are one of the main seed dispersers for the plant.
“I’m looking forward to our visitors getting the chance to see them together—and our other stunning parrot species—in our parrot habitat.”

Dr Rebecca Biddle, Director of Conservation at Twycross Zoo, added: “I’m so proud to see Twycross Zoo leading the way for the conservation of this incredibly important species.
“Bringing this pair to Twycross to hopefully facilitate breeding further down the line, is a necessary and important step to save this species.”
