For as long as you can remember, the Undercity has been covered from top to bottom in graffiti, oozing and dripping bright colors everywhere. The strong, artificially fresh smells of paint and aerosols are just as prevalent as the smoke and fog, weaving their way through the Lanes, heavy and thick enough to grab with your fist.
Most painters take it upon themselves to learn some form of martial arts; it’s a useful skill to have if they want to encroach on someone else’s territory. After all, most artists aren’t going to give up good real estate without a fight. You’ve gotten into scuffles before in your youth, protecting your art from being vandalized by an older boy who backed off only when you bit deep into his wrist, drawing crimson blood richer than any artificially created color.
You don’t miss that aspect of your childhood at all.
One alternative is to climb or crawl somewhere remote and difficult to reach. The challenge in these instances is to successfully navigate Zaun’s crumbling infrastructure without falling to your death. Cracked ledges, shabby roofs, dislodged pipes, and shoddy scaffolding could all fall to pieces with the lightest of touches.
After securing a good spot, you can’t even dedicate your full attention to whatever you’re working on. After all, your back is exposed and you still have to stand guard over your supplies. Your fellow Zaunites are nothing if not bold enough to try stealing your property from right under your nose.
You purposefully ignore all your hard-won wisdom as you stroll leisurely into a dead-end alleyway, whistling loudly as you drop your bag of painting supplies with a loud thud. You kick an empty beer bottle out of the way, and it clatters noisily against the ground. The crumbling brick wall is dusty but sturdy, the stone rough and bumpy under your fingertips as you sweep your hand across it. You pull out your sketchbook and flip through it dramatically. The crisp snapping of the pages echoes loudly through the air.
Every instinct in your body is screaming at you to stop being so obvious. To drop everything and run away as fast as you can.
But you can’t. Because you’re not going to be the victim tonight.
Tonight, you’re the bait.
It takes every ounce of your willpower to stay rooted in the alleyway. Every second that drags on is torture, the longest ten minutes of your life where electric panic fries every nerve in your spine. As if being stuck in a dead end with only one exit wasn’t bad enough, the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end as a stinging, unbearable pain stabs at your temples. Your skin prickles as if it were desperate to escape as well.
You lean over your bag and pull out a spray paint can with trembling hands. Gripping it tightly for dear life.
Your heartbeat is thumping so loud in your ears that you almost miss it:
A quiet, low shuffling, at the other end of the alley.
You force yourself to keep looking forward. To not turn towards them even as hesitant footsteps approach you.
They’re slow, at first.
Picking up speed, growing louder and louder as they rush towards you.
Something sharp and pointy glints brightly out of the corner of your eye—
High-pitched yelling breaks out on your left. It’s much more juvenile sounding than you anticipated, but it sounds just like the children at the orphanage when they’re playing during recess, if their playtime involved ripping each other’s hair out by the fistful. Something metallic clatters to the ground, and you finally turn to look at them properly.
Silco has a little girl pinned down, his knee on her back as he ties her wrists with rope. Her feet flail wildly in the air, kicking up clouds of dirt. He manhandles her roughly before picking her up with ease as if she weighed nothing. She’s reminiscent of a stray cat as she swears at Silco, hissing and writhing furiously to no avail. An old but highly polished knife lies on the ground underneath her feet.
Cold fury burns in Silco’s eyes as he mutters to her, his teeth bared and eyebrows furrowed at the girl as he strides towards you. His words are too low for you to hear, but she responds with a vitriolic string of curses that he doesn’t flinch at. He drops her unceremoniously at your feet.
“OWW!!” the girl yells as her chin collides with the hard ground.
You frown at Silco. “What happened to not hurting them?”
“It’s no less than they deserve,” he says dismissively.
You sigh but bite your tongue, not wanting to argue with him in front of a stranger. Cautiously, you lower yourself inch by inch into a crouch, scooting closer to the child as you set your paint can down.
She scrambles to sit upright, glaring at you.
Silco’s shoulders stiffen as he steps closer, hovering behind her ominously. He makes a point to pick up the fallen knife and tuck it into his own belt, resting his hand on the hilt. Ready to unsheathe it at a moment’s notice.
But he doesn’t try to keep you away from her. Just like you made him promise earlier.
“Hi there,” you say gently. “What’s your name?”
She spits angrily at your feet.
Silco raises a booted foot, ready to kick her over. You raise a placating hand, scrutinizing the kid.
It’s always hard to tell with Sumpsnipes, but she looks barely older than Vi, just approaching the cusp of teenagerhood. She’s lean but not emaciated, with a halo of soft, curly gray hair above emerald-green eyes. Her blazing, angry eyes are smudged with dirt, but not dark circles of sleeplessness or stress. When you glance at her clothes, they don’t have any holes, patches, or loose stitches. In fact, they look clean and fresh, maybe even brand new.
You furrow your brow, thinking hard. Whoever this kid is, she’s living better than the average gutter rat.
Slowly, you settle on your knees and reach for your bag. Her eyes track your hands as you pull out a tin lunchbox and a flask.
“Have you eaten today?” you ask. You unscrew the flask and hold it out to her.
She doesn’t answer, but her eyes widen with surprise. Then she turns from you forcefully even as her stomach rumbles loudly.
“It’s not poisoned,” you promise her. You take a sip first, making sure that she’s watching.
When you hold the canteen out to her again, she inches forward warily, licking her lips. She opens her mouth wide, and you carefully tilt your flask, making sure not to pour too much water too fast. You ignore Silco as he folds his arms in disapproval.
The girl smacks her lips as you put your half-empty canteen back in your bag. Her eyes dart to your lunchbox as you open it to pull out a sandwich wrapped with paper. You peel the wrapping off carefully, revealing an overstuffed sandwich with grainy bread slices, large lettuce leaves, juicy tomato discs, a deep yellow square of cheese, and peppered cuts of dark pink meat.
“We’re going to untie you so you can eat this,” you say calmly. You grab your lunchbox and close it with your free hand, placing it in front of the girl to act as a makeshift plate. Carefully, you place the food on the container, as if you were a waiter presenting a gourmet dessert. “You can leave after you’re done, but I’d like to talk to you, if that’s okay.”
Her eyes flick down to the food, then back up at you, studying your face carefully. She nods just once, still stoic and ornery.
You nod at Silco. He frowns, displeased, but still leans down to untie the child. The girl snatches the sandwich as soon as her wrists are freed. She snarfs it down messily, crumbs flying everywhere as she chews with an open mouth.
“If I had known your pursuer was a wild Poro, I would have brought proper wrangling equipment,” Silco snorts.
“Slow down, or you’ll choke,” you warn the girl.
She glares at you, but then starts hacking and coughing. You quickly grab your flask again and open it, holding it out to her.
“Slow sips,” you instruct her.
She swipes the canteen from you. She closes her eyes as she glugs, a trickle of water spilling over her chin. You sit patiently as she returns her attention to the sandwich. The girl starts chewing much more carefully this time. When you offer her a napkin, she takes it without reservation. Her eyes are no longer hostile, but curious now, wide with wonder as she wipes her mouth.
You tell her your name and hold out your hand. She doesn’t take it, but hands the canteen back to you.
“What’s your name?” you ask again as you put the flask away.
“…Leksy,” she grunts out.
“Hi, Leksy,” you say as warmly as you can, trying to stay calm. The months of resentment for your stalker are slowly dissolving, replaced by a nagging inquisitiveness. The stalker’s youth goes a long way towards making you less scared of her. Besides, she reminds you too much of every other unruly kid you’ve taken care of at the orphanage. More often than not, they just need a safe place and a helping hand.
This kid might just be another one of those orphans.
“Do you have parents?” you ask.
Leksy nods before licking her fingers clean.
“Where are they?”
“Dad’s at work,” the little girl says. She crumples up the napkin and tosses it over her shoulder. It misses Silco’s leg by inches.
“Is it just the two of you?”
“No. Mom’s at home.”
“Why don’t we walk you home? You’ll be safer with us,” you offer. You don’t have to look at Silco to know that he’s rolling his eyes.
“I can’t,” she says curtly.
“Why not?”
She glances away again, eyes downcast with shame. “I’ll get in trouble.”
You glance at Silco, worried. His expression is impassive as he stares down his nose at her.
“Is there someone at home hurting you?” you ask quietly.
Leksy shakes her head vigorously, her hair bouncing everywhere.
“What’s wrong, then?”
The girl looks down, mumbling, “Mom said to leave you alone.”
Confused, you look up at Silco, wondering if he heard Leksy’s answer. He raises an eyebrow, sharing in your bewilderment.
You ask her, “Did she tell you to take pictures of me?”
“No.” Leksy’s eyes bore into a small rock on the ground.
“Who’s your mom?”
“She’s actually my stepmom,” Leksy clarifies, still avoiding your gaze.
“What’s her name?” you ask patiently.
“…Nyle,” the girl finally mutters.
You sit there, stunned into silence as your heart seizes. Your hands clench into fists involuntarily. Anger seeps through your veins as the memories of everything Nyle did to you come rushing back.
Some of your fury must be leaking into your face as Leksy scoots away from you, eyes wide, looking truly afraid for the first time that night. Silco says your name in worry as he steps around the girl to reach out for you.
“I’m okay,” you say automatically, flat and mechanical. You ignore Silco’s hand and get to your feet unsteadily, almost stumbling to the ground again. Still seeing red when you turn around and close your eyes, trying to take deep, calming breaths.
Unreasonable as it is, a part of you still feels guilty for letting Nyle down. Guilty for being inadequate and incompetent. Guilty for not living up to her expectations. And regret for things turning out the way they did. Regret that you lost her because you still miss her so much. All coiling together with a desire for revenge, to hurt her as badly as she hurt you. Twisted up against a strange happiness for her, happy that she found new people to love who seemingly love her back. Only to crash against a fury that she found happiness at all. That she had the audacity to move on and leave you behind.
Silco’s voice calls out your name again, echoing faintly as if he were far away. But his hand lands on your shoulder, bringing you back down to earth.
You jerk your head as if you could physically dislodge your feelings from your body.
“I’m okay,” you say again, letting out a deep breath. It’s a smaller lie this time, as you feel better just looking at the man standing next to you. His brow is pinched with concern.
You might not have Nyle anymore, but you have Silco now.
And you know which companion is superior.
You take Silco’s other hand and squeeze it reassuringly before turning to Leksy. “What did she tell you about me?”
“She said you work for Pilties. You must be rich, right?” Leksy asks, her fear forgotten as her eyes shine with eagerness.
So there it is: the real reason why this little girl has been stalking you. The same thing that tore you and Nyle apart is what brought Leksy into your life. You hold back a snort at the irony.
“Your dad works, right? Doesn’t he have money?” you counter Leksy’s question with your own.
“We need more money,” she says, agitated. “Mom can’t work anymore. She got hurt.”
“What happened?”
“She fucked up her wrist.”
As if the maelstrom of emotions in your stomach wasn’t overwhelming enough, that part of you that still cares for Nyle is now worried about her. If her injury is severe enough to affect her livelihood, then she’s suffering in more ways than one. But another part of you crows with delight at her getting what she deserves.
Silco turns to tower menacingly over the little girl, uncaring of how she leans away from him. “So you’re a cutpurse looking to make up for your mother’s lost income. You should have chosen better.”
The girl glares back at him in defiance. You can’t help but admire her spirit.
“Did Nyle ask you to do this?” you ask, heart breaking a little at your own question, a shallow but piercing stab into your sternum. Even if Nyle had told Leksy to leave you alone, you still need clarification on her part in all this, to find out if she has something more insidious planned for you.
And, of all things, hope takes root in your chest, a creeping tendril worming its way through your ribs to your heart. Hope born from the optimistic—or more likely, naïve and misguided—part of you that still clutches onto the fragments of your shattered friendship with Nyle. A nostalgia for memories of better times that weren’t ruined beyond repair. The belief that one day, the two of you might be able to pick up where you left off.
“No,” Leksy answers. “She grounded me when she found out.”
A revelation. You wonder if Nyle is trying to prevent Leksy from making the same mistake that she did, feeling entitled to money that isn’t hers. Maybe your former friend is trying to repent in her own way.
As you mull over Leksy’s words, Silco glowers at her.
“And yet, here you are,” he snarls. “Too greedy to understand that you should have kept your hands to yourself.”
“I’m hungry!” shouts Leksy. “We need money!”
She flinches again when Silco reaches for the rope. He grabs one end and whips it forcefully against the ground, a harsh slap on stone.
“Run home, little Sumpsnipe,” he rasps through bared teeth, a low whisper of violence like a promise made to keep a secret. “And tell your mother—”
Silco cuts himself off when you gently but firmly take hold of his wrist. Reminding him silently of his promise that he’d let you take care of this. He tears his gaze away from the girl to lock onto you, his boiling rage still simmering as you look at him with determination.
You crouch down again next to Leksy. Her eyes are wary as she scoots away, afraid you might lash out at her, too.
She flinches as you raise your hand.
But you bring it down slowly, patting her tenderly on the head. Her hair is soft and bouncy, and you fight off the temptation to poke your finger through the corkscrew curls and play with them.
Whatever Nyle’s faults are, it’s clear she cares for Leksy very much. And your former friend seems to be a great parent, if she’s inspired Leksy to take such drastic measures. When you remember how Nyle let herself go hungry to feed you, it’s easy to imagine her doing the same for this little girl.
And you knew what you needed to do for Leksy as soon as you first laid eyes on her.
It doesn’t matter who her parents are.
“I get it,” you say softly. “You just want some food, right? Maybe feed your mom and dad, too?”
Leksy nods energetically. “When Mom got hurt, her boss let her take a break… but her wrist got worse and she got fired…”
“It’s going to be okay,” you reassure her. You turn around and kneel next to your bag, pulling out your leather coin purse. Silco grinds his teeth, imploding with disapproval as you place it on the ground in front of the kid.
“That’s for you. If you take the elevators up to Lower Piltover, go to Janna’s Embrace. You and your parents can get food there,” you tell Leksy. “And… tell your mom… that she can eat as much as she wants.”
The Sumpsnipe’s eyes narrow with suspicion. She swipes the money and turns away from you. Her eyes widen with relief, not greed, when she opens the purse, the gold reflecting brightly in her eyes.
You topple backwards as Leksy throws herself forcefully at you, her small hands clinging around your neck in a tight hug. Your butt collides painfully with the hard ground, but the child’s muffled thanks warms your heart.
“Are you sure you don’t need us to walk you home?” you ask.
She nods excitedly. The joy on her face turns to spite when she turns to Silco. Quick as a flash, she kicks him in the shin and yanks her knife out of his belt when he doubles over, swearing.
As his knees collide with the ground, Leksy dashes away, yelling over her shoulder. “Your girlfriend deserves better!!”
You quickly get to your feet, reaching out to take Silco’s shoulders even as you try your best not to laugh. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” he spits out through gritted teeth, rubbing his shin with one hand. He takes your wrist gently to stop you from rummaging in your bag for your first-aid kit. “I should ask the same of you.”
“I’m—” you start, but panic surges in your chest.
If Nyle is going with her family to the Embrace, that means you might see her there. And you’re not sure if you’re ready to face her.
But at least you don’t have to face her alone.
When Silco stands to his fullest height, you hug him, burying your face in his chest. His arms immediately wrap around you as your eyes well with tears. So overwhelmed that you crumple into him for support, the full force of your emotions battering you.
“It’s okay,” he whispers. “Let it out.”
You shake your head, wiping your tears on his vest as a giddy laugh rises out of you like bubbles in a fizzy drink. So exhilarated at finally being able to put this whole ordeal behind you. It’s almost funny that such a small child gave you such a hard time for so long.
But now, a weight has fallen off your shoulders. You feel so light you wouldn’t be surprised if you started floating off the ground. All of it is too much to contain as you keep giggling.
Concerned, Silco lets go of you to hold your face in his hands.
“Silco… thank you,” you say breathlessly before he can speak. When he cups your cheek, you lean into his hand, taking deep breaths to settle your nerves. “I couldn’t have done this without you.”
You’re not just talking about needing his help with wrangling the little girl. His companionship and support helped you put an end to this once and for all. Seeing him stand up fearlessly to Piltover’s countless injustices inspires you every day; if he can fight back against a colossus, then surely you can confront one individual.
His love for Zaun is so similar to your own. It reminds you of the most important thing of all:
That nobody in the Undercity deserves to go hungry.
“That was all you, my lovely,” he murmurs. Silco’s eyes dart between yours as he studies your face. “You were too kind to the child. She needed to be taught a lesson.”
“Leksy’s just a kid,” you say, frowning.
“All our enemies were children once. The only way to defeat them is to stop at nothing,” he says grimly. But his arms fall to your sides, holding you tenderly in a loose embrace.
“She’s not my enemy,” you say with a chuckle. “You’re just mad that she’s faster than you.”
“…Perhaps,” he admits reluctantly. “But I will never forgive her for what she put you through.”
“She’s just a hungry little girl. There are hundreds of them like her down here,” you point out. “Hell, I used to be one, too. Can you honestly tell me you wouldn’t have done the same in her shoes?”
“Of course not—”
“Really? Even if we didn’t know each other?” You pull back from him, raising a skeptical eyebrow. “Pretend that the only thing you know about me is that I’m rich. What about then?”
“No riches in the world could compare to the joy of having you by my side,” he answers without dropping a beat.
“Yeah, yeah, I know I’m great,” you laugh at the smoothness of his delivery. “But that’s not an answer.”
He sighs and pulls you into his chest, hugging you tight. Not out of concern, this time, but to comfort you. The musk of his cologne and cigarette smoke fills your nostrils as you plant a kiss underneath his collarbone.
“You may be right,” he grumbles. “What about the mother?”
“What about her?”
“Is she your enemy?” he asks quietly.
“I—I don’t know… I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive her…” you admit. There’s too much to untangle, and you’re not quite ready to start. “Does that make me a bad person?”
“Not at all. You have every right to keep her at arm’s length,” Silco answers immediately. “Your offer of charity is more than she deserves.”
“It was the right thing to do,” you murmur. You nuzzle into him, his heartbeat a soothing metronome in your ear.
“That’s my girl,” he whispers proudly.
Your heart stutters at his words and you can’t help but blush. Still, you bite your lip, fisting his shirt as your frustration rises to the surface again.
“So… I’m ‘your girl’, now?” you ask, trying to keep your voice as neutral as possible.
Silco stiffens, his arms tensing around you. He pulls away slowly, stepping backwards to look at you. His expression is stoic, but a tiny notch between his eyebrows betrays his hurt. You rub your arms as you keenly feel the loss of his embrace.
“Am I wrong to hope you feel the same way?” he asks in a low, flat voice.
“No!” you answer immediately. “But…”
It hurts you to hear Silco speak with that tone. You’ve always tried your best to be a safe space for him to express himself, to listen with empathy and compassion whenever he told you about his fears and insecurities. Not to mention the countless times you’ve patched him up, whether it’s wrapping his bloody knuckles or holding ice to his bruises.
But you’ve never been the one to hurt his feelings before.
And you almost hate yourself for it.
You take another deep breath, forcing yourself to slow down and choose your words carefully. “Silco… I can never thank you enough for all your help today, and these past few months… but…
“We need to talk.”

Fun CogDis Fact [+ Some Theory Crafting & Regards to Lore itself] (STORY SPOILERS... for a 15 year old fan-game)
So i was doing some data mining (as in looking inside of the game files for fun to see how the game ticks and works, and boy howdy let me tell you, RPG Maker 2003's UI scares me, props to Otherhand for navigating through these... many variables, numbers, & symbols going on, because it honestly overwhelms me) I had learned that:
Cerue appears in the Maria & George Magicant Flashback as one of the background Gieegs behind the windows. While this most likely is just a matter of reusing sprites, it should also be noted that not all Gieegs in the "allthegoogs" sprite sheet actually get used. Like, i want to say around 3/4ths of them actually ever get used (there are a total of 4 Gieegs in "allthegoogs".
(UPDATE 1: She's actually present for one more scene, i think? For whatever reason, her event handler has two pages but she appears for both pages, from what i can guess, she is meant to be the Gieeg that appears during the sequence where Maria & George are walking down the hallway [i think i want to say when George wants to show off the mental amps to Maria, since they share similar variables "0049: maction", which is meant to be the activation of an event via some number inputted by some handler)
(UPDATE 2: Yep, she is present for the scene when George & Maria head to the giant vault door to then breach using the Mental Amplifier Device, yet she doesnt seem to look, which could mean Otherhand forgor to make her turn or she wasnt meant to be there)

Another fun fact, the two Gieegs (referred to as goog 1 & goog 2 internally) that appear when Giegue has his overstimulation moment by Maria's Melody are actually using Giegue's Sprite Sheet (referred to as "Newgiegue")
(a part of me wanted to say its probably due to Giegue being the only "stock-standard" looking gieeg to have a moving sprite, but that isnt even remotely true since the gieegs from "allthegoogs" ALSO have walk sprites as well)
...the fact that the misc googs dont get used here either really feels like there was some manner of implication there by the dev. Personally i feel like its meant to imply that this is Giegue's actual parents but that would be a MONSTROUS conclusion to jump to, especially when there is ZERO mention about the BG Gieegs other than them appearing in scenes and the "(They're watching)" interaction.
Actually, the only real plausible theory to make here would be that Cerue was around for the Human Caretaker Experiment/Goog's Arrival to the Solar System. I mean, the fact that she knows about Giegue and refers to him as an anomaly, seems to imply she knows a LOT more about Giegue (as in a majority of his history/biography) than what the player already knows (who he is, what he is, what he becomes, etc.), in addition, she has a Starman in a chamber and seems to know about their origin/capabilities, even calling their transformation into Starmen a mistake yet compliments the design itself.
Which reminds me of something else, the timeline of events in CogDis which are awfully questionable in terms of order (at least for 1 to 4):
"QUESTIONABLE" TIME OF EVENTS
(190X) - The Gieegs arrive to the Solar System and successfully neutralize the Martian's Space Station's Inhabitants to ensure they have the element of Surprise on their hand.
(190X) - The Gieegs arrive to Mars and engage in war against the Martians. They are successful in doing so and assimilate the Martians into their Army/Empire as the "Starmen" (?).
(190X) - Maria & George find Giegue out in the wild, they are then kidnapped and Maria is supposedly in a mini coma for over a week??? Regardless, George & Maria take care of Googie (also George works out some arrangements with the Gieegs to make sure that everything is comfortable to their liking).
(190X) - 2 or so years later, the event occurs, Maria gets Magicant'd and George runs away with the Mental Amplifiers.
(190X -> 198X) - Mother 1's Back Story involving George's Return to Earth occurs and eventually leads to the events of Mother 1 itself (also apparently PSI spreads out across Earth itself?).
I refer to this as being "questionable" as I am highly unsure as to whether or not the Gieegs were the only ones present on the Mothership OR if the Gieegs had done Mars dirty, assimilated the Martians into their Army as the Starmen and then went to Earth.
Personally a part of me wants to believe its potentially the former, as them getting pissed off at Humanity and taking it out on the Martians seems fitting in terms of MOTHER/Earthbound Logic (problem is that this wouldnt really align too well with the Mars' Data Log).
However it might actually be the latter considering that the Gieegs come from outside the Solar System, and by this time the Martians are the only one with a Space Station/Satellite, them getting neutralized by the Gieegs feels fitting, as the Gieegs themselves REALLY dont like it when another race has PSI (or at least, if they do, they dont like them being a potential threat to their goals, whatever THAT may be).
[tl;dr version of this paragraph, either they got super pissy and took out their hate on Mars or they are the equivalent to the Viltrumite Empire from INVINCIBLE and neutralized Mars so nobody would know and potentially warn others who about their arrival]
(now im thinking of the "THINK MARK! THINK!" meme in my head but with Giegue & [insert fitting character role here])
(Also if you're wondering why i've come to such a strong assumption about the Gieegs, it mainly has to do with a friend of mine bringing up a really good point when i was discussing lore stuff about my sona's world (aka the one in my pfp and which i have a ref sheet to), that being "Why would a race that seems peaceful, need weapons of mass destruction to defend themselves? That would imply that they aren't peaceful in the slightest or have blood on their hands." and it sorta stuck with me. Like, the best example I can currently think of is: An alien race comes down to Earth and says "we come in peace" and then pulled out a nuke and vaporized an entire forest after one deer spooked them; thats sorta what the Gieegs feel like to me whenever i think about them now, CogDis obviously doesnt make them peaceful and afr kind of 'shifty' but Official Mother (Game) Lore never actually quite describes what their intentions even were in the first place, only that they were afraid of Humanity having access to PSI and that Giegue needed to stop them)
Actually, i find it even more weird as to what could have possibly had occurred to the other Gieegs. So if we were to go by the theory of "Cerue being around", then there was probably at least... Three to Four unique Gieegs total?
(Hell, maybe there could of been even more aboard the Mothership for all we know, considering that when Maria is running through the halls, she mentions that the aliens on board all sorta just looked at them without stopping them, never brings up if they were just other Gieegs or what, just that they were being observed)
We know Cerue could have potentially disembarked at some random point (maybe potentially after the Human Caretaker Experiment OR after the Mars Invasion, depending upon which happens first) and goes into hiding on Mercury, basically collecting various creatures from around the Solar System (some either being alive or dead).
We do not know what happens to the other 2 to 3 Gieegs except that they were present for the Human Caretaker Experiment & The Invasion of Mars, as they were most likely responsible for the majority of opposition & were described as being all-powerful by the Mars Super Computer's City Records, so I imagine only a few were needed to take over.
Giegue is the only one around on the Mothership (excluding Niiue) but doesn't know where Cerue went.
(...potentially, Niiue's dialogue about him knowing that she doesn't want to meet him could imply that he's referring to his true identity as Giegue & knows that Cerue possibly sensed him but as Giegue and not his own unique being, which is why she said she only trusted the Applechasers [the main 4] and doesnt try to erase their memory).
(WARNING LINKS LEAD TO FANDOM WIKI, CARRY A BLOCKER) Oddly enough, the fandom wiki for Earthbound has a really interesting tidbit of a theory regarding as to what Giegue's Race even was or what may have happened to them (since after Mother 1, Giegue's People gets ZERO mention), mentioning that after he returned to the ship, he may have ended up killing his people in a fit of distress & deterioration before eventually transforming into Giygas, but its fandom wiki so take it with a tablespoon of salt.
(if youre wondering "why not use WikiBound?", it mainly tends to be game information rather than like, external media information..? Idk, i personally feel like i found more substance to Giegue's Fandom Page than compared to his WikiBound Page)
something i will mention however, is that the fandom wiki uses a lot of information from the novel for Mother 1 (apparently?) as a means to sorta fill in information regarding events that occur between the games. Also its the only wiki with a page regarding Giegue's Race, also this really cool illustration of the Mothership:

Anyhoot, I'm done rambling now, i just sorta wanted to share this because it was on my mind. Gonna stop now before my brain overheats and combusts from thinking too much, also i am hungry, its lunch.
(UPDATE, 12/23/202X, I've realized Cerue's Sprite has different opacities, which might mean that she's been sticking around quite a bit when George makes his discoveries & when the two escape)

Star Wars OC - Ellora Clev
Welcome! This is a short, temporary information sheet about my OC (I am currently at 13,000 words with various stories and excerpts about her life), Ellora Clev! Please enjoy, she is my pride and joy 💗
Name: Ellora Clev
Species: Human
Born: 42BBY
Designation: Engineering Corps - Geological Division (Former), Imperial Military Department of Advanced Weapons Research - Project Celestial Power (Former)
Overview: Ellora Clev was a geologist in the Republic Engineering Corps with a special interest in mineralogy and speleology. Usually based on Coruscant, she would regularly attend field missions for duties such as mapping surveys, sample and core extractions, and navigational assistance. Her research was valuable intel for the GAR during the Clone Wars, which continued to rage on throughout the formative years of her career.
Ipsi the Tooka: Ipsi is Ellora's tooka. They met on a remote planet named Athol-3. The full story can be read here!
She has very 'I just live here' energy, contenting herself with sleeping and exploring wherever she goes. She doesn't take kindly to strangers, and has an unusual distaste for Crosshair, but cares deeply for Ellora.
Ipsi is small by tooka species standards, only measuring approximately half the average length and height. Her most striking feature is her bioluminescence, which causes her fur to glow a vivid green colour.
Clone Force 99: Ellora met the Bad Batch when they were assigned to assist her with a highly dangerous mineral extraction mission on a planet named Calyx. The air was highly corrosive and caused weapons such as blasters and detonators to become damaged and explosive. Together, they worked as a team to complete the mission successfully (with some minor major shenanigans).
Ellora and Tech quickly hit it off, becoming friends and enjoying the time they spent together exchanging research notes and learning from one another. Soon, Ellora became friends with the rest of the squad, slowly winning them over with her sense of humour. The exception to this was Crosshair, who elected to keep his distance.
Post Order 66: Following the fall of the Republic, Ellora was inducted into the Advanced Weapons Research unit of the Imperial Army. She found herself transferred to Kamino to continue her role as a field geologist extracting rare minerals. The Empire had taken a keen interest in kyber crystals, and Ellora was paired with the Elite Squad, led by Crosshair, to carry out numerous missions (under the pretence the crystals were for energy research). Here, the pair reunited, but tensions ran high. Under the influence of his inhibitor chip, now at full intensity, Crosshair's cold attitude continued. However, promising signs showed early in Ellora's arrival to Tipoca City. He began to train Ellora in secrecy, teaching her how to fight and to handle her blaster properly. Her lack of combat skills made her a liability to the team, and Crosshair endeavoured to train her so that she was proficient enough to protect herself. Slowly, their friendship began to develop.
Waning Loyalty: Ellora continues her missions across the galaxy to acquire target minerals that are of interest to the Empire. The purposes of her research are kept secret, and any questions Ellora makes are placated with benign studies. Soon, she becomes suspicious.
Her rapidly evolving friendship with Crosshair provides her with someone to confide in, and she shares her concerns with him. Crosshair is confronting his own doubts, with his inhibitor chip now malfunctioning after his injury on Bracca. Before they can investigate further, Ellora is taken off world, back to Coruscant. She becomes panicked, hearing that Tipoca City was destroyed in a devastating storm. Fearing the worst, she was met with a mixture of relief and horror upon discovering that Crosshair was alive, but in extremely poor health.
The pair reunite once more, now working primarily as a team of two. The Empire was choosing to allocate less and less resources to clones, and questions were beginning to appear surrounding Ellora's loyalty. Through all of this, Crosshair and Ellora are a vital support to one another, and they are almost inseparable whenever they aren't attending to their respective duties. Their care and attachment are beyond that of a conventional relationship.
Breaking Point: Missions were becoming increasingly challenging, and it soon became obvious that they were being passively discarded by the Empire. Ellora confessed to Crosshair that she wanted to leave and start a new life with him. At first, he humours it, but soon the thought becomes Ellora's light in the ever suffocating darkness they found themselves in. Crosshair cared deeply for her, and was enraptured by her vivid daydreams. He agrees to help her leave, but realises that going with her will pose a much greater threat to her safety. Knowing that she won't go through with her desertion alone, he attempts to wait until the last moment to convince her to leave by herself. During Ellora's escape, Crosshair tries to reason with her to go by herself, but she refuses. He makes the ultimate decision to force her to leave.
Navigating Alone: Having spent all of her adult life in the Engineering Corps or under the Imperial Army, Ellora found navigating the galaxy alone a formidable task. With few credits and limited equipment, Ellora did what she could to survive whilst remaining off the Empire's radar. This meant sometimes having to make morally questionable decisions. Combined with her grief from losing Crosshair, Ellora struggled significantly to keep going. Ipsi helped Ellora through her darkest moments, and continued to do so.
Ellora's main source of income was selling rare and valuable minerals that she had either collected herself, or bartered from sellers who weren't as knowledgeable on the true value. Through this line of work she met a pirate named Phee Genoa, who valued Ellora's eye for the unique and illusive when it came to crystals.
Arrival on Pabu: Phee and Ellora quickly became close associates, exchanging intel frequently. But in a dangerous galaxy, Ellora keeps her past a closely guarded secret. Despite this, Phee invites her to Pabu after Ellora is badly injured during a run-in with bounty hunters. Shortly after her arrival, Ellora discovers that the Bad Batch are living on Pabu. The squad are still recovering after their recent mission to Mount Tantiss, where they successfully rescued Crosshair, Tech and Omega. Tech was the most severely wounded, still recovering from a fall he took on Eriadu, with Crosshair also suffering significant physical trauma after being relentlessly tortured.
Their reunions were painfully sweet, and Ellora was very excited to be introduced to the newest member of the squad, Omega. Her reconciliation with Crosshair came last, with complicated feelings on both sides about their separation remaining strong. It had been over a year since they had seen each other, but any resentment or contempt Ellora could have possibly held immediately dissolved. It was like no time had passed at all, but they had both significantly changed, and they had a long road ahead of them to recover.
The Future: Ellora is passionate about Pabu, feeling deeply for the cause. Wanting to help other refugees of the Empire find a new home, Ellora became involved in initiatives to help find new places across the galaxy like Pabu. Using her skills in geology, she became a surveyor with a small team, but often undertook fieldwork to chart new planets which would be suitable for settlement by those fleeing the new regime. Crosshair would most often accompany her on these expeditions, and although they never truly enjoyed the life that Ellora had spoken of so fondly, they felt they were helping to make the galaxy a better place.
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this introduction to Ellora. Please enjoy some Ipsi content for getting this far :D
#star wars oc#emmasbadbatch oc#Ellora Clev#I slapped this out over the course of 4 hours because I realised I wrote a 3k story about ellora and Crosshair#and no one will know what i'm banging on about because i've never posted about her on here#also I know ipsi will always be the real fav her but a geologist can dream#i can't blame everyone for loving ipsi she's a menace

The different Mars Rovers and what we learned
Sojourner (1997)
First rover to successfully land on Mars. Defined by NASA as a "micro-rover" due to its small size, Sojourner had a speed of maximum of 0.4 meters pr. minute. It was active for about 80 days on the surface of Mars.
Sojourner carried three cameras, an Atmospheric Structure Instrument (Meteorology Package) and an Alpha Proton X-ray Spectrometer. There instruments.
From Sojourner, NASA learned about the surface and weather conditions of Mars.
Sojourner found rounded rocks at the landing site, which suggests that running water could have been on Mars. The radio-tracking of Pathfinder (mission name) also gave an estimate of Mars' metal core's size (1300 kilometers to 2000 kilometers). It also discovered that the dust that is in the air on Mars is magnetic and possibly made up of mahemite. Sojourner also observed dust devils, ice clouds in the lower atmosphere and temperature fluctuations on the surface of Mars.
Spirit (2004-2010) and Opportunity (2004-2018)
Spirit was one of two Mars rovers launched in 2003 (mission started in 2004). The wheels on Spirit and Opportunity were about double the size of Sojourners. The weight of both rovers was about 17 times Sojourners, and more than double the size. Their goal on Mars was to search the surface for traces of past water. In 2009, Spirit got stuck in soil (in the area called Troy). In 2010, Spirit stopped communications, and the mission ended in 2011.
Opportunity was launched in 2004 along with Spirit but lasted much longer than their twin. Setting the record for the longest-lasting Mars rover, Opportunity stopped communications in 2018. Opportunity also set the record for the longest distance traveled by a rover, around 45 kilometers.
Like Sojourner, Spirit provided data about Mars' weather conditions, especially the wind. Both Spirit and Opportunity found evidence of possible conditions on Mars that could allow microbial life.
Spirit and Opportunity both had panoramic cameras, a thermal emission spectrometer, a Moessbauer spectrometer, an alpha particle X-ray spectrometer, and a microscopic imager.
Curiosity (2012-present)
Curiosity is currently the oldest active Mars rover (as of 21/07/2023) The main purpose of Curiosity is to figure out if Mars has the right environment for microbial lifeforms. Curiosity is currently exploring Gale Crater and had the most advanced instruments at the time. Curiosity has found evidence of water having been on Mars in the past, found old organic material, and discovered that Mars has had a thicker atmosphere in the past.
Curiosity can climb over knee-high obstacles and can go up to 30 meters per hour.
Curiosity carries a radioisotope power system to generate electricity, which gives the rover a steady electricity flow. Curiosity also carries 17 cameras, a laser, a drill, and 10 different instruments.
Perseverance (2021-present)
Perseverance is the newest Mars rover from NASA. The main goal for Perseverance is to research habitable conditions on Mars, but also for signs of past microbial life. The mission also tests possible options for future human expeditions on Mars (ex. improved landing techniques, producing oxygen from the atmosphere and environmental conditions).
The drill Perseverance used can collect samples and then set them aside for collection on the surface.
Zhurong (2021-2022)
Launched by the CNSA, Zhurong is the first Chinese Mars rover. In 2022 it became inactive due to sandstorms and the winter, which prevented it from waking at an appropriate temperature and good sunlight conditions.
Zhurong's mission was to study the topography, examine the surface (soil and elements), and take samples of the atmosphere. To do this it had a RoPeR (Mars Rover Penetrating Radar), RoMAG (Mars Rover Magnetometer), MCS (Mars Climate Station), MarSCoDE (Mars Surface Compound Detector), a multispectral camera and navigation and topography cameras. It also had a remote camera on board.

SAS training
Nastka’s journey into the ranks of the SAS (Special Air Service) is a tale of relentless perseverance, exceptional endurance, and unbreakable spirit. The SAS is famed for being one of the most elite military units in the world, and its training process is both physically and mentally gruelling, designed to break all but the most resilient. For Nastka, the journey was as much about self-discovery as it was about proving his worth as a leader.
Early Inspiration and Decision
From a young age, Nastka was captivated by stories of extraordinary feats of bravery and skill, often told by his grandpa. The idea of joining an elite unit like the SAS was born out of this fascination. However, the decision to actually pursue this path was not made lightly. Nastka knew that the SAS demanded more than just physical fitness; it required an iron will, unwavering focus, and the ability to endure the harshest of conditions.
Preparation and Pre-Selection Training
Before even attempting to join the SAS, Nastka committed himself to a rigorous self-imposed training regimen. He understood that the physical demands would be immense, so he began by building his endurance through long-distance running, swimming, and weight training. However, Nastka knew that mental toughness would be just as critical. He incorporated challenges that tested his limits—night hikes, survival exercises, and sleep deprivation drills—designed to mimic the conditions he would face in the SAS selection process.
The Selection Process
The SAS selection process is notorious for its difficulty, with only a small percentage of candidates successfully passing. For Nastka, this was the first major hurdle on his journey. The selection phase began with a series of physical assessments, where Nastka had to prove his endurance, strength, and stamina. This included timed marches carrying heavy packs across rugged terrain, which pushed his physical limits to the brink.
One of the most challenging aspects of this phase was the "Fan Dance," a 24-kilometer march over Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, under harsh weather conditions and with minimal rest. Nastka’s mental and physical preparation served him well, but the experience was horrible nonetheless. Many of his fellow candidates dropped out at this stage, unable to cope with the sheer intensity of the challenge.
Jungle Phase
After successfully passing the initial selection, Nastka entered the "Jungle Phase," where he was deployed to a remote, hostile environment. This phase of training is designed to test a candidate's ability to survive and operate in one of the world’s most challenging terrains. For Nastka, the jungle was a completely new and unforgiving environment. Here, he learned advanced fieldcraft, navigation, and survival skills under extreme conditions.
Living off the land, dealing with the constant threat of disease, and navigating through dense, treacherous terrain all while evading capture was part of daily life. Nastka’s ability to remain calm, focused, and resourceful in these situations was crucial. The jungle phase was as much a test of mental resilience as it was of physical ability, and Nastka emerged from it with a deeper understanding of his own limits—and his capacity to surpass them.
Escape and Evasion (E&E) and Tactical Questioning
Following the jungle phase, Nastka faced the "Escape and Evasion" (E&E) exercise, one of the final and most intense phases of SAS training. During this exercise, candidates are pursued by a "hunter force" and must use all their skills to evade capture while navigating hostile terrain. This phase demands not just physical endurance but also tactical ingenuity and the ability to think clearly under immense pressure.
Eventually, Nastka was "captured" as part of the exercise, leading to the next stage: Tactical Questioning. This involves a simulated prisoner-of-war scenario where candidates are subjected to intense interrogation techniques. The goal is to test their ability to resist giving away critical information under duress. This phase pushed Nastka to the limits of his mental endurance, but he knew that maintaining composure was essential.
The Final Test
The culmination of Nastka’s training was the "P Company" (Parachute Company) test, a final assessment that evaluated everything he had learned and endured. This phase involved a series of demanding physical challenges, including a brutal 10-mile march, a steeplechase with obstacles, and a series of confidence-building exercises designed to test resolve and fearlessness.
Passing this final test was the ultimate validation of Nastka’s journey. It was not just a physical achievement but a testament to his mental fortitude, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Reflection and Beyond
Looking back, Nastka’s journey through SAS training was more than just a path to joining an elite unit; it was a transformative experience that redefined his understanding of his own capabilities and ensure that his men see him as a leader. The SAS training taught him the value of perseverance, the importance of teamwork, and the necessity of mental resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
As Nastka joined the ranks of the SAS, he knew that his journey had only just begun. The skills and lessons he had learned would serve him well in the challenging lifestyle ahead, where the stakes would be higher than ever. But he also knew that the journey had already shaped him into a soldier—and a person—far stronger and more capable than he had ever imagined.

haven't been doing much sekai stuff recently bc of outer wilds so as compensation here's how i think wxs would play the game. there's no way to not have spoilers though so spoilers for outer wilds
context outer wilds is an absolutely incredible space exploration game where you learn about the world around you and a mysterious alien race while also trying to figure out why the sun keeps going supernova 22 minutes into your time loop. if it sounds even remotely cool don't read this until you play. promise.
obv nene would be the one to learn about the game. knowing emu she'd want to play with nene, and nene knows rui would like it, and they don't want to leave tsukasa out, so it turned into a fun little gaming corner. they only have nene's copy, so every loop they pass the controller around.
nene started with the controller, but the first loop (before knowing there was a time loop), they passed the controller around quite often. it took a lot longer than she usually would have wanted to because emu kept insisting that they talk to every single villager. they passed around the controller for the model spaceship though and. yeah nobody was good at it. lots of laughter. the shuttle repair tutorial was a nightmare with a ton of screaming and flying into walls and relentless bullying. took them like half an hour but they did it.
rui took the controller in the museum because he got too excited. played with the quantum shard for a solid ten minutes (mostly because it turned into an impromptu quantum physics lecture that only emu kind of understood). they all were very spooked by the nomai statue turning but chalked it up to "whatever".
nene got the honor of the first launch. she went to the attlerock first, per the game's suggestion. found the eye signal locator, learned some cool stuff, walked outside with just enough time to watch the sun go supernova. rui thought it was fascinating, emu thought it was pretty, and tsukasnene were freaking the hell out.
after realizing the whole time-loop thing they decide to pass the controller around every loop. they all worked collaboratively on the progression, though each learned new things as a specialty
tsukasa was most interested in the nomai culture. he started keeping a personal log of each nomai that appeared, what their personality was like, and why they were doing what they were doing. he was the one to find solanum. he also cried when meeting her.
emu loved talking to people! her primary goal was to find every traveler, including feldspar. she'd spend a lot of loops chatting with them and roasting marshmallows. nobody could roast a mallow quite like her. she also had a lot of fun messing with the wonky gravity of certain planets (aka the attlerock and twins)
nene was the best skill-wise. she was the first to successfully navigate dark bramble and make it inside the sunless city. she also managed to land on the interloper and sun station, with a little help from rui figuring out how.
rui was fascinated with the planets and science. as much as he was intrigued by the nomai, he was more fascinated by their findings. many a loop spent in the high energy lab (he did accidentally meet a terrible fate.) and simply learning about space. he was the one to ask the most questions. oh and did all the quantum trials with a wicked smile.
other sillies:
tsukasa would be the first (but not last) to autopilot into the sun
emu figured out the geyser launching trick
rui fell in the black hole first
as for what they discovered...
tsukasa found solanum and the way into the sunless city
emu found feldspar, the mural about the ancient hearthians and nomai, and how to get on the quantum moon
nene found the core of giants deep, the vessel, and the interloper's significance
rui found the ash twin project and the quantum trials
rui would be the one to figure out how to end the game, but nene would be the one to execute it. (i'd have more after this, but i haven't done it myself yet lol).

Hii~ idk if you talked about it but could you tell us your journey in Japan? How is it + how did you manage to go there (if you want to share ofc!)
It's because I'd like to move to Japan and I'm trying to collect information on how to successfully go there.. so if you have any advice pls lemme know, I'd really appreciate it! Have a great day!
Hi there! I sure can :)
How I Got There
Pretty much everyone I know who came to Japan is an ESL teacher (not surprising given I am an ESL teacher and so are all my colleagues, and when I was doing research I mostly searched Youtube for people's ESL experiences in Japan). The most common route of application is via the JET Program. There are also a number of Eikaiwa companies that hire from abroad and will sponsor your visa (this is what I did - I'm happy to give you the details of my recruiter over a DM if you want). However, pretty much all of these options require you to have a bachelor's degree (doesn't matter what in). The main problem with these kinds of companies is you don't have much control over where in Japan they put you, and typically you won't be in a big city (although you might be in a surrounding area - one guy from my training group is based in Saitama). The pay's also not great (but as long as you live within your means, you'll be very comfortable and you can definitely save up).
Even if teaching English isn't something you fancy, it's probably the easiest way to get into Japan if you have a bachelor's. You don't have to be a native English speaker (although you should be at least a comfortable C1, ideally C2 level), and once you're in Japan you can find a job you actually want much more easily.
You can also try GaijinPot for more jobs - there's a section for people applying from overseas. But please check on places like Reddit or FB groups whether a job seems reasonable before applying; anything that advertises pay "per hour" is unlikely to be a liveable wage, and I've been told 240K/mo in Tokyo is not really sufficient (no problem for me out in the sticks, but Tokyo living costs are crazy).
How It Is
I love the nature here! I live in the Tohoku region so I'm surrounded by mountains and forests and I feel so lucky!
The summer sucks if you aren't a fan of the heat. We had 33-37ºC every day from mid-July to the start of September. I have a colleague who grew up in the UAE and he's been laughing at us all saying how beautiful the weather is, but for me, who is native to a cold and soggy little mound of grass in the Atlantic, it is horrendous. Not to mention the cicadas. Idk if there are cicadas where you live but I was NOT prepared.
You can get by without Japanese, but making the effort will go a LONG way. If you've only ever travelled in Europe or English-speaking countries, you'll probably have the impression that "everyone speaks English to some degree" and that you can always find someone with good enough English to help you. This is not the case in Japan! Your interactions will be very awkward if you don't make the effort. You'll probably be fine in bigger cities but more remote regions will be very difficult to navigate.
I understand Japanese a LOT better than when I first came here. I can still barely speak it, but I'm always surprised by how much I can pick up from the kids from the words I know and context (this is a huge advantage to teaching if learning Japanese is your goal: young kids will babble at you in Japanese CONSTANTLY). I'd probably speak it better if I made the effort to go out and talk to people but I'm shy lol.
I love the job! My colleagues are great and the kids are so much fun. My company does provides really good support and my work-life balance is perfect for me. I also get to use my creative side making classroom materials. But I don't get sick days and I only have 10 paid vacation days, 5 of which are at the end of the year and cannot be moved. I'm also pretty sure most other eikaiwas and Japanese companies will work you a lot harder, and you'll have much longer hours and higher expectations from your company.
Hope that helps! Best of luck with everything. Feel free to shoot me another ask if you have more specific questions!
#ask#sorry for responding so late i saved this as a draft like a month ago and then forgot about it :|

Let’s explore the mind-body connection and discuss how it truly works. Have you ever wondered how Energy healing actually works?
Maybe you’re curious about energy healing but —
You’re under the assumption that it’s *magic poof*
Or maybe you’ve been told it’s all about manipulating energy, sound frequencies, chanting om, doing crazy dances or I have no idea, there is a lot out there…
What if, I could break it down for you so that it’s so simple, you can watch this episode and be OHHH I finally get it now.
That’s my Intention.
Here’s the thing, if you’re new to energy work or healing, a lot of new agers can make it look like invisible magic with smoke screens and…crazy as it sounds, that isn’t remotely how it works…
It Works with
The Mind Body Connection
Why is The Mind-Body Connection so Important in relationship to Spiritual awakening?
The Mind-Body connection helps us know why a symptom is coming up for us such as an ascension symptom.
The Connection of the Mind-Body also helps us see if we are disconnected from the Mind or Body.
This is often a big red flag on the ways we may be experiencing misalignment in our nervous system, such as feeling anxiety, having out-of-body experiences, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, hypersensitive or even simply stuck in a loop of negative over-thinking.
This is why when it comes to the Mind-Body Connection it’s sooooo powerful to understand what is going on neurologically and systematically in your energy body. So you can easily find the root cause to heal or manifest more successfully.
So, How Does the Mind Body Connection Work in Relationship to Energy Healing and Spiritual awakening?
That’s what we’re discussing in this week’s episode,

How to Adapt to Remote Recruitment in the UK?
The landscape of recruitment in the United Kingdom, like in many parts of the world, has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. The advent of technology and the global pandemic have accelerated the shift towards remote recruitment practices. As a result, both job seekers and employers have had to adapt to this new way of hiring and job hunting. This blog explores the challenges and opportunities presented by remote recruitment in the UK and provides valuable insights on how to navigate this changing landscape successfully:
The Rise of Remote Recruitment
Before delving into the intricacies of adapting to remote recruitment, it's essential to understand why this shift has occurred. Several factors have contributed to the rise of remote recruitment in the UK:
1. Technological Advancements
The UK, a global technology hub, has seen rapid advancements in digital communication tools and platforms. These technologies have made it easier for employers and candidates to connect and conduct interviews from the comfort of their homes.
2. The COVID-19 Pandemic
The pandemic forced businesses to adapt quickly to remote work and recruitment practices. Many companies discovered that remote recruitment not only allowed them to continue hiring but also widened their talent pool by eliminating geographical barriers.
3. Cost Efficiency
Remote recruitment often leads to cost savings for both employers and job seekers. Companies can reduce overheads associated with in-person interviews, and candidates can save on travel expenses.
Challenges of Remote Recruitment in the UK
While remote recruitment offers numerous benefits, it also presents its share of challenges. Being aware of these challenges is the first step in successfully adapting to this new way of hiring:
1. Lack of Personal Connection
One of the drawbacks of remote recruitment is the lack of in-person interaction. Building a personal connection with candidates or employers can be more challenging when you're not physically present.
2. Technical Issues
Technical problems can disrupt the recruitment process. Internet connectivity issues, software glitches, and unfamiliarity with virtual interview platforms can hinder the smooth flow of remote recruitment.
3. Ensuring Data Security
Handling sensitive candidate information and conducting background checks remotely requires a robust approach to data security to protect candidates and comply with UK data protection laws.
Strategies for Adapting to Remote Recruitment
To thrive in the era of remote recruitment in the UK, both job seekers and employers can employ various strategies:
For Employers:
1. Embrace Technology
Invest in user-friendly video conferencing tools and applicant tracking systems. Familiarise yourself with these technologies to ensure smooth remote recruitment processes.
2. Create a Virtual Onboarding Process
Develop a comprehensive virtual onboarding program to make new hires feel welcome and integrated into the company culture, even when working remotely.
3. Prioritise Communication
Maintain clear and regular communication with candidates. Explain the recruitment process clearly and provide opportunities for candidates to ask questions.
For Job Seekers:
1. Build a Strong Online Presence
Optimise your LinkedIn profile and other professional social media platforms. Many employers in the UK use these platforms to scout for potential candidates.
2. Practice Video Interviews
Familiarise yourself with video interview platforms and practice answering common interview questions on camera to build confidence.
3. Stay Informed
Stay updated on the latest remote recruitment trends and tools. Continuous learning and adaptability are valuable skills in today's job market.
The Future of Remote Recruitment in the UK
Remote recruitment is not just a temporary trend; it's here to stay. As technology continues to evolve and businesses recognise the benefits of remote work and hiring, the UK's recruitment landscape will keep evolving. This evolution offers exciting opportunities for both job seekers and employers.

I think it's because Senshi is incredibly forthcoming about the general topic of discussion (dungeon cuisine and ecosystems). He's a good teacher, and he's eager to share what he's learned in a way that seems relatively uncommon in the setting. The second he sees people even remotely receptive to learning from him, he's all in.
But that means there's a really marked gap when it comes to stuff he doesn't volunteer that Team Poor Socialization Skills has a hard time navigating. He goes from "[extended lecture on thing] [honest questions about others' experience with thing] [gratitude for collaboration over thing]! :)" to "[brief factual answer about thing]", and they're all like "Huh. Hmm. Um." when they notice.
Chilchuck is cagey, gun-shy about giving too many details, and protective of trade secrets in general. There's no demarcation between how he handles arguments over strategy in the dungeons and questions about his personal life.
For Marcille and Laios to work with him successfully, they have to have developed some coping mechanisms for that, which they have. They're not socially adept enough to recognize that there's an etiquette difference in harassing him about the work-related conclusions he's come to and decisions he's advocating for and harassing him about his personal life. His behavior is the same in both situations, so there's no external signal to stand in for the missing internal signal.
I really like how Chilchuck made a huge deal about keeping his private life separate from his work life but objectively he’s not even that good at it. They’d ask how old he is and he gets overly cagey and defensive like 😡😤🤐 “THATS TOO PERSONAL!” which just makes everyone more curious. Like he’s practically waving around the fact that he’s keeping secrets.
meanwhile Senshi is ACTUALLY mysterious, and so casual about it. He barely shares anything unless asked, but every time he does, you realize there’s so much more he’s definitely not telling. He doesn’t seem bothered by most questions, but it almost seems invasive to try to pry for more. What has this man seen. Where has he been. What has he done. There are so many decade-long gaps in his timeline. It’s not even like he’s trying to hide anything (except, y’know, the griffin thing) he just doesn’t talk about himself much.

Remote Work Skills: Thriving in a Distributed World

The global shift towards remote work has set into motion a profound transformation in the sphere of the modern professional world. What once was a choice for only a select few has now turned into the mainstream reach, propelled by the technological evolution and varied business demands. Thriving in this distributed working world goes beyond just owning a laptop and interconnection; it engages hard chips of remote work skills that impart power to any individual to work productively, collaborate with, and engage in activities irrespective of the place they come from.
Those interested in excelling within such work-from-home settings or contributing efficiently to any distributed team must address these core competencies. They are the underlying foundation for any successful remote career.
Why Dedicated Remote Work Skills Matter
Working remotely isn't just about changing your location; it's about adapting your entire work methodology. Without the implicit structures of a physical office (like impromptu hallway conversations or direct supervision), new challenges arise in communication, focus, and collaboration. This necessitates a proactive approach to developing skills that ensure productivity and cohesion within a virtual setting.
Essential Remote Work Skills for a Distributed World:
Successfully navigating the remote landscape hinges on a blend of both technical proficiency and crucial soft skills.
1. Exceptional Digital Communication:
What it is: The ability to communicate messages very clearly, concisely, and empathetically across digital channels (emails, chats, video calls, etc.). That would include also writing well and being an active listener during virtual meetings.
Why it's crucial: There may not be any body language. Clarity helps in avoiding misunderstandings, in getting everybody on the same track, and in building trust among them.
How to develop: Practice on writing clear emails; use bullet points; engage video calls for intricate discussions; and start to actively listen by sitting through virtual meetings distraction-free.
2. Self-Discipline & Time Management:
What it is: The ability to manage your own schedule, prioritize tasks, and meet all the deadlines while keeping focus on performances unfettered by external supervision.
Why it's crucial: No one is there watching over your shoulder. Your productivity depends on you.
How to develop: Try forming a workspace for yourself, set clear goals for the day, get productive tools like a calendar or a task manager (Asana or Trello), and play around with time-blocking techniques (like the Pomodoro Technique).
3. Proficiency in Digital Collaboration Tools:
What it is: Having expertise in the use of software for virtual meetings (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet), team communication (Slack, Discord), project management (Jira, Asana, Monday.com), and cloud document sharing (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
Why it's crucial: These settings are the virtual office. If smoothly run, workflows can be seamless, leading to proper teamwork.
How to develop: Enroll in online tutorials; experiment with several platforms and make the use of them for every single team activity.
4. Adaptability & Tech Agility:
What it is: The ability to quickly learn new technologies, adapt to evolving workflows, and embrace changing platforms and processes.
Why it's crucial: The remote tech stack and best practices are constantly evolving; one is required to be agile to stay efficacious and relevant.
How to develop: Embrace a continuous learning mindset, subscribe to tech news, and stay open to sampling new tools and methods proposed by your team.
5. Proactive-Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
What it is: The ability to notice a problem by oneself, research for ways to fix it, decide on the right solution, and address technical glitches without someone present.
Why it's crucial: Sometimes you cannot casually stroll up to a colleague's desk. Remote work puts a much bigger stress on overcoming challenges with extra autonomy.
How to develop: Own the problem; sharpen your researching skills; and practice breaking down big problems into smaller steps.
6. Accountability & Ownership:
What it is: Accepting full ownership of personal work and commitments and communicating with respect to objectives and barriers encountered.
Why it's crucial: Trust is almost a currency in distributed teams; it is the glue that keeps them together.
How to develop: Clearly communicate what is to be delivered, give regular updates (even if small), and notify others in advance if it's going to be hard to meet a deadline, including ideas for solutions.
Cultivating Your Remote Work Edge:
The transition to remote work isn't just a temporary trend; for many, it's the future of work. By intentionally developing these core remote work skills, you not only prepare yourself for current opportunities but also build a resilient, adaptable, and highly valuable professional profile. Invest in these skills, and you'll not just survive, but truly thrive in a distributed world.

Transforming Organizational Success: The Role of Corporate Training and Coaching Certifications
Workplaces are constantly evolving, and so are the skills required to navigate them successfully. Organizations aiming to maintain a competitive edge must invest in developing their most critical assets—people. Whether it is aligning teams with strategic goals, enhancing managerial capabilities, or cultivating a coaching culture, structured training initiatives play a pivotal role. Among the most impactful interventions are training for corporates, specialized training for managers, ICF coach training, and breakthrough coaching methods. These programs not only boost individual performance but also catalyze systemic change.
The Strategic Imperative of Corporate Training
Corporate training is no longer a luxury or a box-ticking exercise. It’s a strategic necessity. Companies that prioritize learning and development often witness greater innovation, lower attrition, and improved employee engagement. Corporate training covers a broad spectrum—from communication and collaboration skills to advanced leadership modules and digital transformation workshops.
The primary objective of training for corporates is to align employee capabilities with business objectives. When employees understand how their roles contribute to the broader mission, they’re more likely to demonstrate ownership and initiative. Additionally, corporate training creates a culture of continuous learning where growth is encouraged and supported across all levels of the organization.
Equipping Managers for the Modern Workplace
Managers are the critical link between strategy and execution. Yet, many organizations promote employees into managerial roles without adequate preparation. This often leads to disengagement, confusion, and inefficiencies. Training for managers ensures that leaders at every level are equipped with the skills they need to inspire teams, resolve conflicts, and drive performance.
Managerial training typically covers areas such as emotional intelligence, decision-making, delegation, feedback mechanisms, performance management, and team dynamics. Moreover, as teams become more cross-functional and global, cultural sensitivity and remote management skills have become indispensable. Structured training programs provide the tools, frameworks, and hands-on experience necessary for success in these areas.
Training for managers is especially crucial during periods of organizational change. Whether it’s a merger, digital shift, or internal restructuring, managers serve as stabilizing forces. Their ability to communicate clearly, lead with empathy, and maintain morale often determines the success or failure of change initiatives.
The Growing Value of ICF Coach Training
Coaching has emerged as one of the most effective tools for leadership development. Unlike mentoring or advising, coaching involves guiding individuals to find their own solutions and achieve clarity around their goals. As organizations embrace coaching cultures, the demand for credentialed professionals has surged—driving interest in ICF coach training.
ICF (International Coaching Federation) coach training is globally recognized and sets the benchmark for coaching standards. Programs accredited by the ICF emphasize core competencies such as active listening, powerful questioning, creating awareness, and goal-setting. These skills are not only vital for coaches but also invaluable for corporate leaders aiming to adopt a coaching leadership style.
Leaders trained in coaching techniques are better at empowering their teams rather than directing them. They facilitate growth conversations, encourage self-reflection, and foster accountability. As a result, organizations experience enhanced collaboration, deeper engagement, and stronger alignment between individual and organizational goals.
ICF coach training also supports ethical coaching practices. The emphasis on confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and client-centered development ensures that coaching is both impactful and responsible. With more organizations implementing internal coaching programs, having ICF-trained professionals becomes a significant asset.

Break Through Coaching: Driving Deep and Lasting Change
Sometimes, traditional coaching approaches and leadership training may not go deep enough to uncover the core challenges holding individuals or teams back. This is where break through coaching comes into play. It’s a transformative process designed to dismantle internal barriers, reshape limiting beliefs, and drive radical personal and professional growth.
Break through coaching combines psychological insight, somatic awareness, and solution-focused methods to help individuals achieve clarity and momentum. Unlike performance coaching, which often focuses on goals and outcomes, break through coaching delves into the “why” behind behaviors. It helps clients confront inner blocks, emotional triggers, and outdated mental models that hinder progress.
Organizations that integrate break through coaching into their leadership or talent development strategy often report profound shifts. Employees become more resilient, self-aware, and purpose-driven. Managers develop a deeper understanding of human behavior and motivation. And leaders are better equipped to foster psychological safety and emotional intelligence across their teams.
Break through coaching is particularly effective during transitions—such as onboarding new leaders, handling conflict, or preparing high-potential employees for senior roles. It builds a strong foundation of trust, authenticity, and personal mastery that enhances both individual and team performance.
Integrating Training and Coaching for Maximum Impact
While each training approach has its own benefits, the most effective organizational development strategies combine multiple elements. For instance, training for corporates might focus on hard skills and compliance, while training for managers addresses leadership capabilities. ICF coach training ensures that coaching practices are rooted in globally accepted standards, and break through coaching supports deep, personal transformation.
When these elements are integrated thoughtfully, they create a multi-layered learning ecosystem that meets employees where they are. An example might include:
A corporate-wide initiative to improve communication, supported by formal training workshops.
A managerial cohort program with leadership simulations and peer coaching circles.
Internal coaching pools formed from ICF-trained professionals.
Individual sessions for break through coaching targeting high-potential leaders.
Such an approach ensures that development isn’t limited to one-off sessions or motivational events. Instead, learning becomes a sustained, embedded part of the organizational culture.
Building a Coaching Culture
A coaching culture goes beyond offering coaching as a service—it embeds coaching principles into daily interactions. Leaders learn to listen deeply, ask meaningful questions, and encourage ownership. Teams embrace feedback as a growth opportunity rather than a critique. Performance conversations shift from top-down assessments to collaborative reflections.
ICF coach training can be instrumental in fostering this culture. As more leaders acquire coaching competencies, they influence how decisions are made, how conflicts are resolved, and how teams are led. Break through coaching complements this by ensuring that deep-seated mindsets are not overlooked in the process.
Moreover, training for managers acts as a bridge—equipping supervisors to apply coaching in practical ways: during team meetings, performance reviews, or development discussions. When these elements come together, coaching stops being an event and becomes an ethos.
Measuring the ROI of Coaching and Training
Investments in training and coaching are only as valuable as their impact. Organizations must be intentional about tracking the effectiveness of their programs. Some common methods include:
Behavioral assessments before and after training
360-degree feedback for managerial development
Engagement surveys to evaluate cultural shifts
Key performance indicators (KPIs) linked to productivity, retention, and innovation
Qualitative feedback from coaching participants
Organizations that take a data-driven approach to learning and development are better positioned to refine their strategies and demonstrate ROI to stakeholders. This also fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Final Thoughts
The landscape of corporate learning is expanding, and with it, the expectations of employees and leaders. Investing in training for corporates builds foundational skills. Offering training for managers prepares leaders to navigate complexity. Implementing ICF coach training ensures professionalism and consistency in coaching initiatives. And engaging in break through coaching supports the kind of transformation that unlocks true potential.
Organizations that blend these approaches create workplaces where people feel empowered, aligned, and equipped to thrive. More than just learning strategies, they become catalysts for innovation, resilience, and sustainable success.

In today’s digital-first world, companies are no longer bound by geography when searching for skilled professionals. The ability to hire top tech talent worldwide has opened new doors for startups and enterprises alike, enabling them to scale faster, innovate more efficiently, and stay competitive in a global marketplace. But how do you attract, recruit, and retain top-notch tech talent from around the world?
Let’s explore the key strategies to successfully hire top tech talent worldwide and build a robust, diverse, and future-ready workforce.
Why Hire Tech Talent Globally?
Hiring globally is no longer just an option—it’s a strategic advantage. Here are some compelling reasons why organizations are choosing to hire top tech talent worldwide:
1. Access to a Broader Talent Pool
The global market is teeming with developers, engineers, and IT professionals of all levels. By extending your search beyond local borders, you gain access to specialized skills that may be scarce or expensive in your region.
2. Cost Efficiency
Hiring talent in regions with lower costs of living often leads to reduced salary expectations without compromising quality. This means companies can scale their teams faster while optimizing budgets.
3. 24/7 Productivity
With teams spread across time zones, your company can operate round-the-clock. A developer in India can pick up a project when a designer in New York logs off, creating a seamless workflow.
4. Diversity and Innovation
Cultural and educational diversity fosters innovation. A global tech team brings varied perspectives and problem-solving approaches, which can lead to more creative and effective solutions.
Challenges in Hiring Global Tech Talent
While the benefits are substantial, hiring globally comes with its own set of challenges:
Navigating international labor laws and tax regulations
Communication and time zone coordination
Building a unified culture across remote teams
Vetting and verifying candidate skills remotely
Understanding these obstacles helps organizations prepare better strategies and avoid common pitfalls.
Strategies to Hire Top Tech Talent Worldwide
To reap the benefits of global hiring, companies must approach the process strategically. Here are the most effective methods:
1. Define Clear Job Roles and Skill Requirements
Before launching your search, create detailed job descriptions. Include technical skills, experience levels, language proficiency, and time zone preferences. Clarity attracts the right candidates and filters out the rest.
2. Use Global Recruitment Platforms
Platforms like Toptal, Turing, Upwork, and Deel specialize in connecting companies with vetted international tech professionals. These platforms often handle compliance and payment logistics, simplifying the hiring process.
3. Offer Competitive Global Compensation Packages
Top tech talent knows their worth. Research industry standards in different regions and offer packages that reflect both market value and cost-of-living differences. Include benefits like flexible hours, learning stipends, and wellness programs.
4. Leverage AI and Tech Tools for Screening
Automated coding tests, video interviews, and AI-driven assessments help streamline the hiring process. These tools can evaluate skills objectively and save time during initial screening rounds.
5. Focus on Employer Branding
Global candidates often check employer reviews, social media presence, and company values. Highlight your mission, culture, and growth opportunities to attract passionate and aligned talent.
Building a Culture for a Distributed Team
Hiring is just the beginning. Retaining and empowering global tech talent requires intentional efforts:
- Establish Clear Communication Channels
Use tools like Slack, Zoom, and Notion to keep everyone aligned. Set regular check-ins and encourage asynchronous communication to accommodate time zones.
- Foster Inclusion and Collaboration
Celebrate cultural events, run virtual team-building activities, and encourage knowledge-sharing. Making every team member feel seen and heard fosters loyalty and engagement.
- Invest in Career Growth
Offer remote learning opportunities, mentorship programs, and clear paths for advancement. Top talent stays where they can grow.
Legal and Compliance Considerations
When hiring internationally, ensure you understand local employment laws, taxes, and work permits. Partnering with an Employer of Record (EOR) service can help manage compliance and reduce risk when hiring in new regions.
Conclusion: The Future of Hiring Is Global
The ability to hire top tech talent worldwide has revolutionized how companies grow and innovate. By adopting a global mindset, leveraging the right platforms, and nurturing a strong remote culture, organizations can unlock unprecedented potential.
Whether you're a startup looking to scale fast or an enterprise building a global innovation hub, hiring top tech talent worldwide is not just a smart move—it’s a necessary one for success in the digital age.
