I love bg3 and it's a great game but it's also a perfect case study in why maintaining some distance between fandoms and creators is a good idea.
#the original concept of the characters was very good is the thing#I mean what we've ended up with is still generally good#but they 'fixed' a bunch of things that were better before in favor of addressing actual flaws and issues that were very fixable#and sometimes they did technically fix actual issues but like. in a way that prioritized catering to fans over preserving narrative intent#and sometimes they somehow fixed nothing and created issues that weren't even there originally (*cough*wyll*cough*)#and most of it could have been completely avoided if they had just. listened to the fans slightly less#I want to reiterate I still love the game#it's just always frustrating to watch talented creators cave to very loud people with questionable priorities/understanding of the material

I need everyone to understand the potential of a The Darjeeling Limited inspired aftg AU where Neil, Aaron and Jean go on an extended roadtrip and bond over their individual existential crises
Like maybe Neil suggests the idea as a way to cope with his loneliness and potentially strained relationship with Andrew after his graduation, and he invites Jean because he's recovering from a motorcycle accident so he doesn't have anything going on. Not entirely sure how to bring in Aaron but he's there because he's freaking out about Katelyn being pregnant, but he's also trying to keep it a secret from Neil because he thinks he'sgonnatellAndrewand *gunshots*
*whispers* I feel like @sapphoherselz would see the vision but I'm delusional so idk
#and neilaaron bond over their mummy issues and talk about the trial and address their fear of becoming like their parents#and jean and neil talk about the nest and them being misplaced forever partners and elodie#and maybe there's some conflict between jean and aaron bc jean misses elodie#and he doesn't understand why aaron is the way he is with andrew#the darjeeling limited feels like an obscure reference but it's genuinely my favourite wes anderson film#also I could technically write this but I'm not gonna#I'm not even gonna tag this properly bc I'm scared of my insanity being perceived#jeanneil#neilaaron#is neilaaron really not a tag? we've truly failed as a society

I hate when people more knowledgeable about history than me are somehow less politically informed
#Errr or idk how to put it like I wouldn't call myself all that politically informed either#But like idk I was talking to this girl who was like we need more traffic cops. It is bad there r less cops on the road coz of#Increased awareness of black people being killed in routine traffic stops + other shit that changed during onset of covid#Because now ppl r driving less safely. But we can't just bring back the cops. So we should abolish the police via#Creating more departments for specific things so traffic enforcement should exist independently of what we now consider policing#N she was saying other stuff abt the creation of these departments and I was like. I really don't care for reform unless it#Exists as intermediary to dissolution of entire systems and overhauling of infrastructure.#Like I'm not excited to endorse what you're talking about even on the level of Solving Traffic because the solution should be radically#transforming the infrastructure to be less car-centric and develop better public transportation#N her response was 'well we should do what we can now with what we got' or something n idr#how I responded to that but idk if the thing that makes you uncomfortable and inspired towards change is#more dangerous traffic as opposed to like. The brutalization and fear of that comes w cops.#Then idk I don't really care about your priorities or addressing your concerns. I just cannot bring myself to care.#Because 1. You obviously don't have my concerns as a racialized person who relies on public transportations in mind as urgent#(Which is to me like I don't trust once you get your reforms you'd not just#shrug your shoulders and call it unfortunate whatever issues remain that other people suffer)#2. It is plainly ignorant to think any enforcement of Law Order Safety etc in a white supremist settler colony wouldn't reproduce violence#She was like they should just have tasers not guns and it's like. K people have been killed with tasers.#People have been killed with batons even. Like. Completely wrong focus ig because You're scared of guns?? Idk.#But anyway before that conversation I kinda felt like an idiot compared to her coz when we'd go to the library I'd only want to read comics#& she was only reading non-fiction books like history and politics etc#So it's like her opinions are technically more Well-Informed than mine n it's kinda hard for me to argue coz I just have like. Principles.#~

chapter 2 of procurement team is going to be one long "hear me out" on a reinterpretation of a character im on record as thinking idw1 did dirty and i cannot wait
#TECHNICALLY AN OC#and it might not be fully revealed until much latter#but. uh. i have Thoughts about how idw1 specifically reinterpreted A Character#and those thoughts led to a long#and very interesting convo not like#okay how do we fix that#but what was this character's original narrative role in g1 transformers#and crucially what do they ADD that is missing#and how did idw1 try to fix surface level complaints with that while not addressing the fundamental issues#that trying to “fix” them cause#but i'll go into more details when they show up#promise it'll be fun

that poll about moving out has reminded me, once again, that despite having secured legit permanent housing (my name will be on the lease in a few months!) i don't have the proper documentation to change my address when i renew my driver's license next week. the address on my current one is for a building that is no longer registered as a street address because of the fire last summer. and i don't have the proper documents to change it
#personal shenanigans#i have no idea yet if this will stop me from renewing my license#i've been researching but i can't find shit as far as my state's laws#stuff about renewing licenses? easy to find#stuff about changing addresses? easy to find#stuff about changing your address while renewing your license? no fucking idea#what do you do if you're technically homeless?#what do you do if you're just sort of floating in the void?#am i going to be forced to keep an invalid address on record?#because i don't have mail from my guy's apartment with my name on it?#i hate this shit#suddenly having that old address on file is causing me so many issues#i'm trying to hunt down my w2 from my last job#and it was way harder than it needed to be to make a doctor's appointment#bc the address kept coming back as invalid#i am so tired!!#and i still have things that smell like smoke from the fire

I don't think Dick not being adopted immediately is unrealistic to the modern day, and I'm a little unclear on where this idea comes from, or why it's so popular? There are plenty of reasons he might not have been; there's the Year Three explanation you mentioned which has come up in comics outside of that one, there's also Bruce's reasoning in Pre Crisis that he was too young and felt unready to make that kind of decision at the time - and besides those canon reasons there's things like not wanting to create a legal tangle if unknown relatives appeared later for Dick, or personal sensitivity to the fact that Dick comes from a culture with a lot of trauma surrounding children being adopted out (which is a topic that has at least come up in comics a couple of times, first with Yoska in Gotham Knights and then with Raptor in Nightwing). I really don't mean this to be combative and I hope it doesn't come across that way, I just personally find Dick's situation in Pre/Post Crisis pretty relatable, and I don't understand why exactly it keeps getting called unrealistic?
after some research to clarify statutes, here's where I generally fall on each of the Wayne kids' adoption status from a story perspective (note that this is not about their canon status, but what reasonably would happen given their individual situations):
Dick: Realistically, in the modern era Dick would be adopted basically immediately given his legal situation and Bruce's canonical willingness to adopt; the only reason he historically wasn't adopted was becasue single men weren't legally allowed to adopt minors (which is no longer the case). However, there are theoretically a few ways an author can justify Dick being permanently fostered and adopted as an adult instead, like Dick asking Bruce to not adopt him because he didn't want to feel like he was replacing his parents in Batman: Year Three.
Jason: Jason is definitely adopted prior to his death, idk what 2011-2021 DC tries to say. There's no reasonable outcome for Jason's situation that isn't adoption even if (like in the post-Flashpoint universe prior to Jason's post-Crisis backstory being re-canonized in "Cheer") Willis was alive and didn't want to give up parental rights, since Jason was 11-ish and Willis's sentence was canonically 'twenty to life.' At absolute minimum 2011-2021!Bruce was Jason's permanent foster father and/or legal guardian with physical custody, with Willis retaining limited parental rights. However, the court wouldn't have protested Bruce's adoption application after Willis's apparent death, especially if Jason voiced a desire to be adopted.
Tim: Tim's adoption process should have been fairly smooth given that Tim was 16 at the time and very much able to voice his own opinions on his living situation and desired legal status to the court. There's also very little incentive for Tim to opt for foster care over adoption under the circumstances, though Bruce and Tim could likely easily arrange a kinship care situation with Bruce classified as fictive kin if for some reason adoption wasn't in the cards.
Cass: Cass is a legal grey area in general since she was already 17 when she met Bruce, has no birth certificate, and her parents were never legally established as being her biological parents, but there's no reason either legally or practically for her status to be anything other than adopted...especially since it was 100% certainly an adult adoption regardless of universe. There's no existing parental rights to consider or terminate from the court's perspective.
Damian is obviously Bruce's biological child, but given the circumstances of his birth and early childhood it's not only possible but highly probable that he doesn't have a legally recognized birth certificate when he comes to live with Bruce. While this is obviously forgable via Babs or Bruce himself, the more likely situation is that someone (probably Bruce's lawyers at Bruce's request) went to the State Department and registered Damian as a foreign birth abroad using Damian's positive paternity results as an identification method, providing him with a Consular Report of Birth Abroad to prove his American citizenship.
#i'm perpetually confounded by it idk#it would at best be a little fucked up of bruce to immediately adopt dick#and personally i don't think he'd do that considering he's jewish and would probably at least be aware of that issue himself#it's v unfortunate we've never really had a comic address this on more than a very surface level though#and then generally not well#but like... is the reasoning that A) he Could technically be legally adopted immediately so#B) he Should and Would be legally adopted immediately?#anyway sorry for my confused flailing in your notes#bats#dick grayson#meta

Thinking abt the second dream story featuring a third dream story I can't remember if I ever talked abt. I <3 body horror bonus points if its slow and agonizing
#rat rambles#oc posting#the more recent dream was far less defined of a story than the other two main dreams I based stories off of but it still stuck with me#mostly because it involed dragons and body horror and both of those things are sick as hell#and I decided to put it in the same world at the story with grim since that dream also technically had dragons in it#ok but actually the main reason is to fill in some worldbuilding gaps that planted grief (the working name for grims story) had#Im still working on the worldbuilding it's been a slow process since neither story has rly gotten to be my primary focus at any given time#but Im slowly getting somewhere#mainly the important thing is figuring out what the world outside of planted grief's setting looks like and how much magic is in either#for context an important element of this world is that it is a very magical world but a certain region of it is more or less blocked off#from the rest of the world and within that region magic is far less prevelant to the point that for most ppl it may as well not exist#now for what I have so far its not necessary that these ppl don't know magic exists its just that its like. kind of hard for them to#remember it does? like when they see magic they are able to recognize it's magic and as smth fairly normal if not a bit weird to see here#but when there isnt actively magical shit going on they just sort of. cant hold onto that knowledge and forget abt it#this also applies to a lot of other things relating to magic and the rest of the world outside the region#its why they're pretty well known for their region being cursed as hell and its people even more cursed#outside the region it's pretty well known that some great tragedy befell those lands at some point in the far off past that probably is the#cause of how weird and fucky things are over there and that the barriers were set up at some point to stop it from spreading#nowadays the borders aren't super strict and people are free to cross them given they go through the proper paperwork and stuff#but most ppl on either side tend to at least be heavily advised to not take the risk for many reasons#its generally not too uncommon for outsiders to move in for work reasons tho#the main concern is that the more magical one is the harder time theyll have since ppl will often just. forget they exist when not directly#interacting with them. which isnt usually too bad but it does lead to various safety concerns that have to be addressed#the good news is that generally the longer one hangs around people the easier time they'll have remembering them as they form their own#associations with them and are able to cling to the memory that way#but the bad news is that while foreigners will never be completely susceptible to the curse™ they will start to feel the effects of it the#longer they live there which tends to be very distressing to those who end up living there long term#one part of the curse™ theyll never be hit with as hard as locals is the days of grief that hit the population Hard every now and then#basically just full days where everyone is suddenly completely inconsolable or just otherwise out of it and then completely forget abt it#once the local dragons deal with the source of the issue

Cybercriminals are abusing Google’s infrastructure, creating emails that appear to come from Google in order to persuade people into handing over their Google account credentials. This attack, first flagged by Nick Johnson, the lead developer of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), a blockchain equivalent of the popular internet naming convention known as the Domain Name System (DNS). Nick received a very official looking security alert about a subpoena allegedly issued to Google by law enforcement to information contained in Nick’s Google account. A URL in the email pointed Nick to a sites.google.com page that looked like an exact copy of the official Google support portal.
As a computer savvy person, Nick spotted that the official site should have been hosted on accounts.google.com and not sites.google.com. The difference is that anyone with a Google account can create a website on sites.google.com. And that is exactly what the cybercriminals did. Attackers increasingly use Google Sites to host phishing pages because the domain appears trustworthy to most users and can bypass many security filters. One of those filters is DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), an email authentication protocol that allows the sending server to attach a digital signature to an email. If the target clicked either “Upload additional documents” or “View case”, they were redirected to an exact copy of the Google sign-in page designed to steal their login credentials. Your Google credentials are coveted prey, because they give access to core Google services like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Google Maps, Google Play, and YouTube, but also any third-party apps and services you have chosen to log in with your Google account. The signs to recognize this scam are the pages hosted at sites.google.com which should have been support.google.com and accounts.google.com and the sender address in the email header. Although it was signed by accounts.google.com, it was emailed by another address. If a person had all these accounts compromised in one go, this could easily lead to identity theft.
How to avoid scams like this
Don’t follow links in unsolicited emails or on unexpected websites.
Carefully look at the email headers when you receive an unexpected mail.
Verify the legitimacy of such emails through another, independent method.
Don’t use your Google account (or Facebook for that matter) to log in at other sites and services. Instead create an account on the service itself.
Technical details Analyzing the URL used in the attack on Nick, (https://sites.google.com[/]u/17918456/d/1W4M_jFajsC8YKeRJn6tt_b1Ja9Puh6_v/edit) where /u/17918456/ is a user or account identifier and /d/1W4M_jFajsC8YKeRJn6tt_b1Ja9Puh6_v/ identifies the exact page, the /edit part stands out like a sore thumb. DKIM-signed messages keep the signature during replays as long as the body remains unchanged. So if a malicious actor gets access to a previously legitimate DKIM-signed email, they can resend that exact message at any time, and it will still pass authentication. So, what the cybercriminals did was: Set up a Gmail account starting with me@ so the visible email would look as if it was addressed to “me.” Register an OAuth app and set the app name to match the phishing link Grant the OAuth app access to their Google account which triggers a legitimate security warning from [email protected] This alert has a valid DKIM signature, with the content of the phishing email embedded in the body as the app name. Forward the message untouched which keeps the DKIM signature valid. Creating the application containing the entire text of the phishing message for its name, and preparing the landing page and fake login site may seem a lot of work. But once the criminals have completed the initial work, the procedure is easy enough to repeat once a page gets reported, which is not easy on sites.google.com. Nick submitted a bug report to Google about this. Google originally closed the report as ‘Working as Intended,’ but later Google got back to him and said it had reconsidered the matter and it will fix the OAuth bug.

Exploring Fault Proofs in Optimism: An Overview

The activation of fault proofs by Optimism marks a significant advancement in Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solutions, completing the first stage of its decentralization plan. This milestone is pivotal for enhancing the network's security and trustlessness, reducing reliance on centralized entities like the Optimism Security Council. Previously, the council monitored transactions and intervened to prevent fraud, but with the new fault proof system, any party can now challenge transactions, moving towards a more decentralized and inclusive network.
Ethereum's high transaction fees have made Layer 2 scaling solutions, such as rollups, essential. Optimism's fault proofs ensure that off-chain transactions are valid by allowing a challenge period where anyone can contest a transaction's validity. If a challenge is raised, a fault proof is provided and verified by the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring that invalid transactions are reverted.
This process significantly enhances the security and integrity of the blockchain. Unlike Arbitrum, which relies on 12 validators, Optimism's fault proof system is designed to be trustless and decentralized, enabling broader participation in transaction verification.
Despite initial challenges with proof generation and verification speeds, Optimism has optimized its fault proof mechanisms to be compatible with Ethereum's Layer 1. This achievement not only improves the security and decentralization of the network but also sets a benchmark for other rollup technologies.
The activation of fault proofs highlights the importance of continuous innovation and rigorous testing in the blockchain space. For more in-depth insights and exclusive research, join our Web3 Sync community on Intelisync and Learn more...

listen. I know my family is bad at communication and acknowledgement of receipt of Thing but when the one thing that consistently happens semi-annually is that I get fussed at for not confirming I received something, it irks me a smidge.
Like if I'm expected to always confirm "Hey I got your [communication/gift]" then why aren't they doing it back? Especially considering the communication in this instance has really actually very important information they will want to know if they want to stay in contact with me.
Like????
Even if I'd just gotten a "K" in response, like. at least it would have let me know they got the damn thing. I sent this email TWO WEEKS AGO and only one person responded - and it was practically immediate too. Like... i know folks are busy, i know shit's going on. I get it. But it would help me feel so much less like I'm suddenly a pariah in the family out of nowhere if like one of the people I'd sent this to had just responded in some way shape or form.
I'd have answered a phone call - i wouldn't have liked it, but i'd have done it. A letter in the mail to my current address even. a message in a bottle probably wouldn't get to me because i'm pretty far from the beaches of the great lakes, and also they're even farther, but like. something right?
my sister at least confirmed she got it and just forgot to respond. i imagine that's what happened with everyone else because we have the same mental illnesses and look. i do it too. but also? also?? i was hounded to respond quickly to things, i was told off every time i wasn't responding within a half hour of any communication. I was asked instantly the next time they saw me if I'd gotten it, even if i hadn't had a chance to see the thing yet.
So forgive me, family, if I'm a little peeved off that all y'all are allowed to "forget to respond" for two whole fucking weeks and then a few extra days (because it's been 2 weeks, 3 days exactly) when i can't let something sit in the mailbox for 2 days because i couldn't get to my mailbox easily while living on my own without getting a phone call or text or email that there should be something waiting in there for me.
*enraged screeching*
#literally the deadline i gave them for my address change was Monday#technically they have until the 8th but i didn't give them that room because i feared they'd use it#and my birthday is this upcoming week and like. idk i was kind of looking forward to maybe getting a card or two perhaps that's silly of me#to look forward to receiving specifically birthday correspondence for my birthday idk man#like i don't have a lot of space to judge i'm also really bad at keeping up lines of communication but when someone sends you#an update with a deadline about when they're moving and to where exactly#and also a big update on a health issue that like. they've mentioned MULTIPLE times#it's generally considered courteous to at least SAY YOU RECEIVED THE MESSAGE even if you didn't have a chance to read the whole thing yet#like????????#angry i am so angry#like yay my sister responded to the text IT TOOK 2 WEEKS AND ME POKING HER ABOUT IT#again i know. i know people are busy and have other things going on#why did *I* have to be the one who came up with work arounds and ways to avoid doing this to other people when no one else does it for me?#why was *I* the one always getting fussed at and told off and lectured about how rude i was for not getting back to people in a timelymanne#but it's fine for them to IGNORE ME FOR 2 FUCKING WEEKS#like fuck *off* with that bullshit i'm so fucking.........#i mean it. about the others. if my grandparents i sent this to and my other aunt don't respond they don't get any more updates on me#i don't tell them when i move next or where i've gone. if i change my phone number again they don't get it.#like. if you're not going to do me the courtesy of saying ''i got your message you sent''#AFTER I'VE SENT A FOLLOW UP TWO WEEKS LATER#then you don't get to stay in touch because you clearly do not care about it.#....i already feel like i'm extremely unwantable and like no one will ever desire to stick with me long term#having the family members i spent the majority of my life being around not respond to me does not help that#the SINGULAR person in a whole list of recipients who responded quickly (and also thoroughly but that was *wholly* unexpected)#was someone I barely got a chance to know when I was young because of weird family drama I don't care about#because it doesn't fucking matter y'all are adults now act like it#like. the most supportive member of my family is a woman i thought disliked me on principle because i was my father's child#and it turns out no it's my dad who's the fucked up one who judged her children just because they were hers#cause he hates his sister for some fucking reason.#when she's genuinely the nicest and kindest person i've ever met in my whole family like???
