Netflix Renews 'One Piece' for a Second Season

Netflix has green-lit a second season for the live-action adaptation of "One Piece."

The renewal was announced on Netflix's social media platforms two weeks following the series' premiere.

The show draws its inspiration from the globally renowned manga and anime, "One Piece", chronicling the quests of Monkey D. Luffy, a youthful pirate in pursuit of the legendary One Piece treasure. Success would crown him the Pirate King.

Taking on the role of Luffy is Iñaki Godoy, with a star-studded ensemble featuring Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd portraying Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Other notable cast members are Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala. The series boasts the creative minds of Matt Owens and Steven Maeda as its writers and executive producers, with the duo also taking the helm as show-runners. Eiichiro Oda, the original brain behind “One Piece”, joins the executive producer roster, collaborating with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements from Tomorrow Studios. The show is a joint creation of Tomorrow Studios, Shueisha, and Netflix.

Given its stellar run on Netflix's top 10 charts over a fortnight and positive critiques, the renewal wasn't unexpected. Adelstein had hinted in a conversation with Variety about the completion of scripts for the next season. Clements added that viewers might expect the sequel in approximately a year to a year and a half.

My first interaction with JATP

After almost a year the fan community of JATP doesn't give up to wait for further continuation of this incredible tv series.

I like this show so much that I already rewatched it several times. In fact, I repeated it eternal multiple times, so I lost count.

Today I decided to create reaction posts to JATP season 1, after I started rewatching the series again.

In that way I want to indroduce you to my very first thoughts, when I watched the show the very first time. Maybe we will find same points of view. Probably, I will come along a hidden detail I didn't noticed before and can share it with you. Maybe I can interest you to give JATP a chance and watch it (even as an adult), if you refused to do so before.

In the following I want to tell you about, what did come in my mind, when Youtube algorithm recommended me JATP and when I first heard about it.

Someday in summer of 2020 I heard about an upcoming new Netflix original series called "Julie and the Phantoms." Once I read the description I became a little sceptical.

Actually, I was expecting a modern remake of "A Christmas Carol" 🎄 by Charles Dickens. In my imagination the action would take place in another century and season of the year. I was thinking: "In fact, the plot could have some parallels with "Collateral beauty" as well."

Here a little short-cut of what I learned about the show in that moment: Julie 🙋‍♀️losts her passion for music 🎶 after her mother died. And in my opinion, it seemed like that only some ghosts 👻👻👻 could help her to get on the right path again. To be exact, there gonna be three ghosts just like in Dickens story. I was thinking that each phantom would show Julie her past, present and future just alike in "A Christmas Carol". Julie would make her conclusions after this unusual experience and get back to her music.

I learned later that I was totally wrong with my guess.

Aside from that, the description of JATP said, that it is a musical show made for children/teenagers and is directed by Kenny Ortega. This part got mostly my attention because I am a huge fan of musicals. Already as a kid I enjoyed to watch several Disney original movies with musical parts, e. g. HSM Trilogy, Camp Rock, Lemonade Mouth, etc. Later I enjoyed watching "Mamma Mia", "I'm walking on sunshine", "The greatest Showman", "Aladdin", "Lovestruck" and lots of other great musicals.

On the contrary, especially the 'kid show' part scared me off. Don't get me wrong, just hear me out. I was 23 years old at that time, so I thought I would not be satisfied with a children/teenage TV series anymore. That's why I didn't even watch the trailer.

Today I blame myself for this decision, because I watched the show only in February 2021 (six months after the premiere) and missed so much joy and fun.

In brief summary this means: Without the YouTube Algorithm I wouldn't become a fantom. This feature is annoying mostly of the time, but here it was quite helpful. One faithful day in February I got an recommendation for "Perfect Harmony" on YouTube. Because the video seemed very popular I decided to give it a chance. At first glance I noticed that this part has lots of parallels with "Dirty Dancing". That's more than obvious because Kenny Ortega is evolved but after this song I was amazed about everything. The lyrics are catchy, the melody is beautiful and the acting skills by Madison Reyes and Charlie Gillespie were pretty natural.

After that I immediately googled JATP and found out that lots of people of all ages love the show and became huge fans of it. While searchinf for more background information, I came across with the hashtag #wewantseason2jatp. Funny enough, on the same day I watched all 9 episodes in a row and was thrilled.

What I am trying to say is, give JATP a chance even as an adult. It's a good plot with depths. Besides, important topics are involved, for example:

1. How to handle with grief and the loss of loved ones.

2. Don't to give up by any circumstances, stay strong 💪 .

3. Don't look back to the past, otherwise you will waste your future and your potential.

4. You have to believe in your own abilities and strength 💪 .

5. It's OK to accept the help by family and friends. You haven't to deal with everything on your own.

6. You have to fight your inner demons.

7. And so much more! 😉

Selbst nach einem langen Jahr der Ungewissheit hofft die Fangemeinde von JATP weiterhin auf eine Fortsetzung.

Mir persönlich gefällt die Serie dermaßen, dass ich sie bereits unzählige Male angeschaut habe 👀 .

Heute überkam mich der Gedanke, sog. Reaktion-Posts zur ersten Staffel von JATP zu veröffentlichen. Auf diese Weise möchte ich mit euch meine allerersten Eindrücke zur Show teilen. Womöglich finden wir somit heraus, dass wir die gleichen Einsichten teilen. Vielleicht fallen mir einige Kleinigkeiten auf, die ich zuvor übersehen habe. Wahrscheinlich kann ich hiermit jemanden dazu bewegen, JATP sich anzuschauen und der Show eine verdiente Chance zu geben.

Darüber hinaus möchte ich euch Einblick gewähren, was mir in den Kopf kam, als eines Tages der Youtube-Algorithmus mir ein Musikvideo von JATP vorschlug bzw. was ich über das Konzept der Show dachte, als ich zum ersten Mal davon hörte.

Beginnen wir mal…

An einem heißen Sommertag ☀ im Jahr 2020 erreichte mich die Nachricht, dass Netflix eine neue Show mit dem Namen „Julie and the Phantoms“ im Herbst rausbringen möchte. Kaum habe ich die Einleitung gelesen, wurde ich teils skeptisch:

Um ehrlich zu sein dachte ich , dass es sich hierbei um ein Remake von Charles Dickens „Die Weihnachtsgeschichte“ ⛄ handeln wird, vielleicht mit einer gewissen Anlehnung an „Verborgene Schönheit“. Natürlich lag ich mit meinen Überlegungen vollkommen falsch, jedoch finde ich sie aus heutiger Sicht mehr als amüsant. So glaubte ich, dass JATP in unserer modernen Welt spielen würde; statt im kahlen Winter im warmen Sommer. In der Beschreibung hieß es weiter, dass Julie ihre Leidenschaft für Musik 🎶 nach dem Ableben ihrer Mutter verloren hatte. Einzig drei geheimnisvolle Geister 👻👻👻 konnten ihr den Weg zu sich selbst und ihrer Liebe zu Musik zeigen. So viel zu meinem Gedankengang: Drei Geister -genau wie bei Dickens- verhelfen einer lebenden Person die richtuge Entscheidung zu treffen und zugleich einen fatalen Fehler zu umgehen.

Allerdings dachte ich, dass jenes nach dem „klassischen“ Schema a lá Dickens geschehen würde, also dass die Geister Julie ihre Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft zeigen würden. Also nach Dickens Konzept. Julie würde daraufhin lernen, dass es nichts bringt, nur in der Vergangenheit zu leben, sondern dass man seine Trauer überwinden und weiterziehen muss, um im Hier und Jetzt zu existieren.

Außerdem war ich davon angetan, dass der berühmte Kenny Ortega Regie führte und die ganze Show ein Musical sein sollte. Bereits als Kind liebte ich Musikshows und Musicals. Kenny Ortega hat uns in den frühen 2000ern HSM geschenkt. Jeder sollte mir zustimmen, dass Filme wie „Camp Rock“ oder „Lemonade Mouth“ 🍋 unsere Teenie-Herzen ♥️ höher schlagen ließen.

Abgesehen von all dem schreckte mich jedoch die Tatsache, dass JATP eine Kinder-/Teenie-Show sei, ab. Dies ging so weit, dass ich mir nicht den Trailer zur Serie anschaute. Mit meinen damaligen 23 Jahren bezweifelte ich inständig, dass eine solche Kinderserie meinen Erwartungen an eine TV-Show entsprechen könnte. Somit strich ich JATP sofort von meiner imaginären Watchlist.

Meinem Vergangenheits-Ich vom Sommer 2020 könnte ich für diese Entscheidung, ohne zu zögern eine Ohrfeige verpassen. Bezüglich JATP habe ich mich, was die Handlung und das gesamte Konzept angeht, vollkommen geirrt. Hierin sollte mich ein Zufall fast ein halbes Jahr später belehren. Es war irgendwann im Februar 2021 als ich nichtsahnend auf Youtube unterwegs war. Bestimmt kennt ihr das auch: Ganz unerwartet erhält man ausgewählte Empfehlungen seitens des Algorithmus. So geschah es auch in meinem Fall; kurioserweise für „Perfect Harmonie“. Ohne große Erwartungen schaute ich mir das Video an und zeigte mich überaus dankbar. Normalerweise fühlte ich mich von dem Algorithmus genervt, aber hier hat es sich wahrlich gelohnt. Der Songtext hatte Tiefe, die Zeilen wiederholten sich nicht immerzu. Die Melodie wurde schnell zu einem Ohrwurm. Die Choreografie war einzigartig und zeigte viele Parallelen zu „Dirty Dancing“ auf, was Kenny Ortega zu verdanken ist. Ebenfalls war die Schauspielleistung von Madison Reyes und Charlie Gillespie überragend! Alles in einem war ich mehr als positiv überrascht.

Nach einer zügigen Recherche bei Google fand ich heraus, dass viele andere Menschen ähnlich wie ich ohne große Erwartungen an die Show herantraten und hiervon überrumpelt wurden (selbstverständlich nur im positiven Sinne). Darunter fallen viele Erwachsene und zu meiner eigenen Überraschung auch einige Senioren. Dabei konnte ich nicht umhin, als auf dem Hashtag #wewantseason2jatp stoßen. Auf diese Weise wuchs meine Neugier und ich wollte mich eigenständig von JATP überzeugen. Unentwegt schaute ich mir noch am selben Tag alle neun Episoden an. Mensch, war ich im Übermaß BEGEISTERT!!! 🤩

Was ich damit sagen möchte, ist: Urteilt nicht allzu schnell über JATP! Es ist nicht nur eine herkömmliche Kidsshow. Im Grunde genommen kann man es schwerlich als Kidsshow bezeichnen. Vielmehr ist es eine Serie, die zu allen Altersklassen gleichermaßen passt - JATP ist schlicht und ergreifend ideal für einen entspannten Abend.

Was mir an JATP neben den geilen Performances und ansteckenden Liedsongs besonders gut gefällt, ist die Tatsache, dass JATP sich mit unterschiedlichen Themen auseinandersetzt. Im Folgenden zähle nur einige Quintessenzen auf:

1. Wie geht man am besten mit Trauer und dem Verlust eines Liebsten/einer nahe stehenden Person um?

2. Gebe unter keinen Umständen auf, bleibe in jeden Fall stark!

3. Wenn man einzig in der Vergangenheit lebt, verpasst man nicht nur seine Gegenwart, sondern auch seine Zukunft. Gleichzeitig übersieht man seine wahren Talente.

4. In jedem Fall muss man an sich und seine inneren Stärken glauben!

5. Es ist in Ordnung sich hilfesuchend an deine Freunde und/oder Familie zu wenden. Du sollst und kannst nicht mit allem eigenständig fertig werden. Jegliche Hindernisse kann man als Gemeinschaft überwinden!

6. Bekämpfe um jeden Preis deine inneren Dämonen!

P.S.: Falls ich jemanden immer noch nicht überzeugen konnte, JATP eine Chance zu geben, so sollte sich der-/diejenige folgenden Reaction-Videos ansehen. Ihr werden es keinesfalls bereuen, weil sie überaus unterhaltsam sind.
