Chapter: Phantasma Reborn

Batman pov

I just stand there in shock, no longer fighting against my captors' grip. Nighthound gives a mournful howl.

"No! NO NO NO NO NO!", I think to myself. "This can't be happening! I can't be losing two family members at once again!"

Nightwing hasn't moved from where he fell to his knees. His arms limp at his side as he was still as a statue.

"Such a shame to waste talented blood.....but we have no use for you or Batman." Blake sighs. "Robin seems to stubborn to break. We'll have to find some new fresh blood to induce to the clan later. That means we will have to get rid of you all since we won't be using you."

I start to struggle as he forms a sword made from shadows and rise it high. I can hear Robin and Nighthound starting to struggle to try to break free. I couldn't help the desperate cry that escape my throat as the sword comes swinging down to my son's neck.

"NIGHTWING!"

Nightwing pov

I don't move even as I see the shadow of Blake showing me what he was about to do. "Maybe it is better this way........how can I go on living when I failed them so badly." I think to myself as I close my eyes. "Don't worry Zell.....I'll be joining you and our son soon."

My eyes snap open when a hear a gasp. Turning my neck, I see behind me Blake wearing a shocked expression and a empty hand? Springing to my feet I whirl around to face him. To my shock, no matter how much he tried, he couldn't get anything to form. Glancing at Batman and Robin I can see the shadows that were holding them in place were gone. No one seemed able to summon any shadows.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked with furrowed eyebrow.

"That would be because of me", a voice that I never thought I'd hear again comes from behind me.

I whip around and there was a black dragon with purple eyes and purple fins for ears on the head, with a dark black fin on the tail with slightly lighter black for spikes between the horns and what looks like armored scales for eyebrows. There were even some spikes on the cheek before the fins. And on the back of the large dragon was Phantasma,

I couldn't help but smile as Nightwing whips around to stare at me as Cindrome flies us out of the pit.

"Phantasma?" I hear him ask.

"In the flesh. We can talk more just give me a second." I say.

With a snap of my fingers, every member of the Dunkel was bound in handcuffs made from shadows. The moment that Cindrom lands on the ledge near Nightwing, he started climbing the dragon to reach me.

"Hi-!"

I didn't get a chance to say more then that because I am suddenly in a tight hug.

"Don't ever vanish on me like that again........wait! What about!?"

"Everything is fine." I stop him with a finger to his lips. "Sunshine is fine too."

"Seems you got a upgrade to your powers.....as well as a dragon..." Robin says as he inspects Cindrom. "I approve."

Nighthound suddenly appears behind me and licks my face.

"I missed you too bud." I say with a smile.

"Wait.....your outfit changed" Nightwing says. "It kinda looks like mine. But with a jacket with tails?"

"Well...I thought that Zatana's outfit was so cool with the coattails....and well...I don't think I can pull off a cape like the rest of you. And Red Hood's jacket is kinda cool so........is it dumb?" I ask shyly.

"No.....to be honest I think I like it better then when you tried on my suit that one time......it suits you."

I blink then snort. "Did you just make a pun or try to?"

"Maybe."

"This can't be happening!" Blake cries out. "How dare you dishonor your family like this!?"

As he is ranting and raving, Batman walks over and punches him.

"Shut up. You're just lucky I have a no killing rule." he says

He then proceeds to knock out the rest of the clan then starts to talk on his communicator. Once he was done he turns to us.

"The Justice League will come and help me handle this. While they do so, you five will return back to the cave." He says.

"Understood."

After Bruce came back, I told everyone what happened. Once I was done with the story, I lean against Dick on the couch. He wraps a arm around my shoulders. While waiting for Bruce, we all changed into sweats and Gus and Alfred gave me a check up. Everything was fine, though until that was told out loud, just about every Bat was pacing and peeking over their shoulders as they worked. Damian was playing with Cindrom, Aileen's snakes, Cippia, Titus, Ace, and Haley.

"Welp......I think The Red Hood just got a new partner......sorry Barbra......but I don't think I can do your job after all." Aileen says.

"That's fine. I figured you'd want to be with Jason in the field anyway." Barbra replies back.

"Well yeah, if my new snakes can help out with fear toxin, why would I stay behind?"

"Fine, BUT!" Jason started to say. "If we end up dating after the date we are going on, and if you get pregnant you're going back to working with Babs."

"Oh? Thinking long term future plans? I guess you really are a Bat" she says with a snicker.

"Shut up." was said with a blush on his face.

"Well let's hope we don't have too much excitement until the baby is born." Dick says with a sigh.

"Because that will no doubt be a event in of itself." I laugh.

I was helping Alfred and Gus put tree decorations on the tree in the living room. Since the trip to Germany, the months seemed to fly past in a burr and already it was the 20th of December. We didn't have a gender reveal since we wanted to find out when the baby was born. The baby shower we did have was quite the event. A lot of hero themed gifts....I am pretty sure most of the gifts had some hero theme to them. Though my favorite gift was a mobile to put above the crib and dangling down from the strings were everyone in the batfamily hero symbol.

"I brought gifts!" is heard as the door is opened then closed. "Hope you don't mind! I also brought Barbra! Also it is snowing very heavy outside! We almost went into a fire hydrant!"

I chuckle at the source of the voice. "You sure she didn't bring you Brandon?"

"OK....maybe she did.......still amazes me that she would want to date me." Brandon replies with a sheepish smile as he is holding a pile of gifts in his arms. "I normally have a thing for raven haired woman.......yet fell for a redhead...while Dick who has a thing for redheads fell for a raven haired woman."

"I can't believe that Barbra didn't tell us you two were dating! I kept wanting to punch you every time I saw you at Leslie's clinic!" Dick says as he comes into the living room with Cippia and Haley. "Though it is nice that Leslie has a new partner at her clinic and to take over her other duties should she ever retire."

"I think with this family, she's too scared to retire. Not that I blame her." Gus huffs.

Soon the others come in to help with the gifts and tree. Cindrom was most likely napping curled up with Batcow in the barn. Those two seem to be best friends.

I struggle a bit to stand but when I do, I suddenly gasp in pain. "Oh! Dick! I think the baby is coming!"

Every head whips to look at me and to see that my water had indeed broken. There is a suddenly flurry of movement as every one started to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Except for Alfred and Gus of course. They just lead me to a room they had set up the closer my due date came.

Dick pov

I am pacing outside the door. Cippia had gone and gotten Leslie to help out Gus and Alfred with the birth. Hours have passed and now it is Dec 21st. The Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year while also being the shortest day. I nearly trip myself as the door suddenly opens and Gus is standing there.

"Come on. Time to meet your son." he says as he moves to let me in.

"Hear that! A son! Told you he's going to name the kid either John or Mary!" I can hear Jason shouting as I enter the doorway.

"Of course he's going to name the baby John if it was a boy!" Steph yells back.

Gus shuts the door so the argument that started wouldn't disturb the baby. There'd be plenty time for him to get used to this crazy family.  I walk over with the biggest smile as I walk over and sit down next to Zell on the large bed she was laying on.

"Hey."

"Hey you." she says with a smile.

I put a arm around her shoulders as she moves part of the blue blanket. Laying in her arms is a mini-me. I gently take the bundle into my arms as the rest of the family is allowed into the large room. Of course Alfred and Gus make sure the room is large so everyone can fit. I glance up and move my head to gesture Bruce over.

"Come say hi to your grandson Bruce. Luca John Grayson."

I watch as Bruce gently takes Luca into his arms. I snicker at the groans as it seems only a few people guessed I wouldn't pick the name John. Not surprising those three were Gus, Cass, and Alfred. Everyone else guessed I'd pick John. The were half right, it is his middle name. They seemed pleased with the money they collected from the betting pool.

I see Bruce suddenly freeze as Luca had grabbed his finger after opening his eyes.

"The Mighty Batman...defeated by a mere baby." I laugh.

"More then you could ever do." he replies.

We all freeze as Luca smiles and his hair suddenly turns blonde.

"I guess 'Sunshine' is a perfect nickname for him after all." Jason says, causing every one to start to laugh.

"Well it will be interesting to see what else he can do with his powers as he grows up." I say as I kiss the side of Zell's head.

Nighthounds

What is a Nighthound?

A nighthound is the Adventure Time version of a Hellhound much like how the Nightosphere is the Adventure Time version of Hell. They are demonic dog most commonly used for hunting and guarding. While Nighthounds are mostly characterized as aggressive, vicious, and monsterous but not all nighthounds are like this.

Much like dogs, nighthounds come in a variety of breeds. But as a general rule of thumb, nighthounds are large canines. Nighthounds can have 2 to 6 eyes. Damnations feature eyes all over their bodies. They can also have up to three heads. They come in various shades of red, orange, and black. All adult nighthounds have sharp claws on their front paws and all adult male nightounds have small spines of their back. Nightospherian Ridegebacks are the only nighthounds that have large spines on their backs, regardless of if they're male or female. Nighthounds have sharp claws, sharp teeth, and strong jaws, making it easy for them to tear through flesh easily. Nighthounds also have larger monsterous forms in the case that they feel threatened or angered.

Nighthounds stop aging when they are about 2 years of age. Due to their demonic natures, they are vulnerable to salt and holy water. The only things that could kill a nighthound is another nighthound or blessed weapons.

Below is an example list of nighthound breeds:

Nightospherian Shepherd: While they were initially shepherd nighthounds used out in the Nightosphere's countryside, Nightospherian Shepherds are now most commonly used as guards.

Rotterweiler: Another nighthound previously used as a shepherd, they are now mostly used as guards. Despite their size, they are really agile and really strong nighthounds.

Cane Corpse: Initially used for fightings, they are now more commonly used as guards.

Soulful Retriever: Soulful Retrievers were bred for hunting. More specifically, they were used to retrieve souls of humans from the surface world. They have the ability to suck out souls, morph the soul into a ball and then bring the soul back to their handler.

Pit Bull Terror: Bred for fighting, Pit Bull Terrors are the most common nighthound used in nighthoun fighting rings.

Sin Bernard: Another nighthound used for hunting, Sin Benards have a keen sense of smell that allows them to find prey even if they are buried underground. Adult male Sin Bernards all have horns of various shapes.

Nightospherian Mastiff: While initially used for guarding and fighting, Nightospherian mastiff are also used for hunting. Adult male Nightospherian Mastiffs feature large spines from the head down to their tail.

Damnatians: Damnatians are often used at hunting nighthounds. Alongside spots, Damnatians also have eyes all over the body, allowing to see prey in almost all directions. Adult male damnatians all have pink horns that sprout from their heads.

Doberman Clampers: Bred for guarding but are just as commonly used in nighthound fighting. Out of all nighthounds, they have the stronngest bite forces, hence their name. While they are born with tails and floppy ears, it's common practice to have their tails docked and ears cropped. Doberman Clampers also have long tounges that allow them to grab things from a far.

Now obviously none of them are blood related BUT THAT JUST MAKES IT EVEN BETTER ! Starting from the beginning James, Azari, Pym and Torunn only knew each other, they were the only people in each other’s lives and for most of their life they were all they had. The beauty of their bond is the fact that they were raised together through shared trauma and life experiences. They’d all jump infront of a bullet for one another and they all see each other as family even through they aren’t. None of them are blood related but they’re still family ! AHHHH I LOVE THAT TROPE AND ADDING FRANCIS TO THE EQUATION MAKES IT EVEN BETTER

with Francis added he not only brings that tipping scale energy of will they won’t they with Torunn or a somewhat rivalry with James but he adds exactly what they’ve all been looking for

Francis was raised in a post apocalyptic Ultron world he’s the stereotypical lone wolf who thinks Heroes were dead. He feels he has the weight of the world to burden and it was up for him to save the world not trusting anyone while all James, Azari, Torunn and Pym wanted was the hope and confirmation that someone anyone was out there continuing the fight so that one day they could beat Ultron

In a way they all saved each other which makes their bond even better. Francis learns that he can’t do everything on his own and opens up to his new family after losing his parents and the others learn from Francis that the world they knew isn’t what they expected but if there’s more people like Francis it can’t be that bad

Yeah the Family Dynamic is the best part about this team and I still feel like I didn’t cover it all
