Maybe the problem with Christian fiction is that it's non-denominational. People are just "Christian", with no effort put into showing what practicing that religion looks like for them specifically. No indication that there are other Christians who could have different beliefs. No wrestling with differing ideas and the struggle of how one should live out their Christian faith. And that makes it unrealistic and unrelatable.

#me reading any christian historical fiction set in england: why are none of these gentry anglican??#they ARE all anglican and if they are not it is extremely plot and character relevant you can't just have them using evangelical buzzwords #but i'm also thinking of this because i started another charlotte yonge book #that is by far my favorite of the things of hers that i've read #because it has characters who have different upbringings and religious opinions #instead of just 'here's a bunch of high church anglicans judging people who don't live up to their victorian standard'#you have the very high church anglican rector whose wife is worldly but still a very good person #the girl raised in a very strict protestant family who is more scrupulous than the anglicans but is still recognized as a good person #you have people who are trying to work out the nuances of different issues #and that makes it so much more realistic and so much easier to integrate into the story #(the politics though are hilarious)#(most of the classics that survive are the ones that were 'ahead of their time' in politics)#(so it's equally fascinating and refreshing and a bit infuriating to see one that is very very of its time with regards to women's rights)#('why did this woman get up at the meeting and explain her very good ideas for rebuilding after the fire? she should have had a man do it')#(meanwhile i'm just screaming 'why on earth SHOULDN'T she???')#(it's almost enough to make a feminist of me)

I gave myself a writing challenge and I am fascinated by it

So basically I put the robins in a randomizer to give them a new order/role (because I just...kinda wanted to see what would happen + I like role-reversal AUs) and got results that are giving me a fucking brain blast.

Stephanie, the first sidekick who defines the role

Tim, the sidekick who dies and comes back wrong

Dick, the sidekick who saves Batman from himself

Damian, the sidekick who was never supposed to be a sidekick but would go on to prove everyone wrong

Jason, the youngest sidekick who is still the Kid Wonder

...So this is fucking wild. I've got some ideas and several of these fit perfectly (Dick's role is pretty similar to his one in canon), but some of these are fucking INCREDIBLE to explore (Steph being the first Robin is something I never even considered but tbh I kinda love it).

I probably won't write a fic or anything because tbh I don't like publishing my writing that much, but I might expand this into a full AU and post about it. I might randomize other stuff too (ie, stuff that I cannot change vs stuff that I cannot keep the same) but this fucking rules as a starting point.

Like...his role has not changed much outside of being younger/not the one who defines this #But I still think it'll be good to see how well I know Dick beyond his eldest brother thing (which is my best way of relating to him)#Damian al ghul #damian wayne #oh this is gonna kick ass #Bruce does not want his son to be a sidekick but Damian just kinda forces his way into that role #and everybody doubts him because of his history with the league but he later proves himself more than capable #to the point that he can set out mostly on his own and still thrive #Jason Todd #Jason being the baby of the family is also something I have never thought about but holy shit it could kick ass #I really hope that I don't roll 'Jason must die' or 'Robin 5 must die' on the randomizer. I just kinda want Jason to live this time #But unfortunately I double-screwed him because he's on the 'must happen' wheel twice now. I did not think these prompts through #TBH I am so happy that none of them rolled their OG roles. because that would have been so fucking boring

I wanna scream. How can a restaurant be this fucking filthy and the manager ENABLE AND ENCOURAGE IT

I shouldnt have to come in after days that I don't close and winder what I'm gonna have to clean. I shouldn't have to wipe down dirty tables from the night before. I shouldn't have to spend TWENTY MINUTES sweeping up shit from the day before.

I get it, you switch jobs to somewhere that doesn't have as many cleaning requirements so you lax a little. I do. Hell I've laxed a lil from the standards of one store I've worked at. But there's a difference in not scrubbing the ice bin everyday and not FUCKING SWEEPING OR TAKING OUT THE TRASH.

This is just one shitty thing about this place. I'm not talking about the improper food storage, or the lack of expiration dates, or the lack of food handlers licenses, or food not being kept to correct temperatures or the fact that are cleaning rags aren't being washed. That's a completely different set of issues. I'm talking about the absolute bare minimum in terms of cleaning. Because I know that this place has mopped front of house maybe twice since it opened 2 months ago and both of those were within the first 2 weeks of opening.

#rant #the fact that none of these is expected of me so doing it is goingbabove my wage is wild #im expected to clean the windows and the bathrooms #which apparently doesnt include taking the trash because that is rarely done when i dont work #im sooooo glad i have orientation for a new job friday #at a big place so i know theres cleaning standards #every restaurant has there violations that they choose #some have less than others #but fucking hell this place takes the cake #times like this make me miss my old job at starbucks #where even 3 years after that location opened it still looked like it was in its first week #where the daily weekly and monthly cleaning tasks were actually done #and i know that isnt all starbucks locations but it was ours #our tiny town starbucks was rated one of the best in north texas for multiple things within the company #fuck that store manager for blacklisting me i did nothing wrong

'you're the only one who can break my heart'. direct words #he's upset no doubt. blocked him on everything #i think he thinks i'll come back i mean i came back twice #but khalas. sneaking around and lying and the excuses i keep giving to my family. it's exhausting #on top of me being already iffy about him. i'm 18 man i have so long to find someone #he was a lousy boyfriend a lot of the time. didn't make up for the things he said he'd make up for #he did get better but im not entirely sure since we didn't see each other for a month #all i need to do is look at the bright side of it all. i have so much freetime now. i can do what i want. i don't have to apologize for #every little thing. i feel more relaxed. i don't have to check my phone as often. i don't need to make excuses for someone else #alhamdullilah alhamdullilah alhamdullilah

to be quite honest i'm not entirely over having my teenage body scrutinized and deemed overly scandalous and inappropriate at various times by insane staff and faculty in evangelical high school for existing in leggings or a dress. just things i'm thinking upon and getting enraged over this nye. imagine having a normal body image

#couldn't wear leggings or tight pants in the cult school and once was pulled aside by a male teacher who told me my shirt was too low #(the shirt had literally been given to me by the dorm dean) full offense but i hope he dies painfully #and then at the next (liberal by adventist standards) school had dress check every fri night and sat morning to go to mandatory church #in last two years had a fully evil head dean who pulled me aside on my way to sunday breakfast to look at my ass and tell me no one wanted #to see that and when we had (also mandatory) 'banquets' instead of prom she told me at the (mandatory) dress precheck that the dress i #borrowed was too tight around the armpits (?) and i needed to fix it (i just hiked it up higher when i had to walk past her to leave and #she didnt notice) i dont even remember what kind of dress it was #this woman was so cartoonishly evil. people whose skin i would rip off and burn in front of them #also if i were skinny u know none of these evil motherfuckers would have looked twice #i literally will never be able to afford enough therapy to fix the damage these people + my mother did to my self image....anyway #oh plus purity culture..........wow its crazy how my eating habits are abnormal idk why #i hate adventists sm #wait im not done. this woman also put up a sign on the front doors of the dorm about how us girls have to 'protect the men of our campus'#by not wearing leggings etc. die in a fire. ok im done #me #ed tw #(?) just in case #ex sda

acquired some small apple trees for $10 each and now i have a little orchard 🥲

#i was literally sadposting abt not being able to afford apple trees in the spring lol #but some lady on fb was selling grafted trees for less than cost bc she did extra :')#anyway!!#i got five #i need to pay full price for a couple more but im so happy #i have a little orchard finally #we do have a few super old trees but they didn't have any fruit this year and almost none last year #and last year they were suuuper small #possibly weather related but idk the varieties so it's possibly that too #this year it was weather bit idk last year #now i have some nice varieties tho but im going to order a few more for better pollination and more types :)#anyway :)#no fruit for a few years but im excited to watch them grow #adventures in gardening #this has been a shitpost #horticulture tag #im thinking of contacting the guy who saves and sells rare historical varieties for some :)#and then i might get some very standard ones too

Release: 2018 (PC/PS4/Switch) Beaten: October 13th, Xbox Series S (Game Pass) Playtime: 5h 21m

It's been about 5 years since I played Celeste, so I started replaying it on a whim. It's still really good. The story still moved me deeply, it might have actually hit a bit harder this time. Obviously, this is a fantastic game. I've always adored how the difficulty aspect goes hand-in-hand with the storytelling. I don't have a ton to say about it currently, especially not anything new, but I remain as impressed with this game as I remember being in the past, if not more so.

no but like there's writers out there attending classes by garth greenwell ocean vuong brandon taylor etc meanwhile the intro to creative writing class i did in my first year was run by a guy who declared repetition 'lazy' and called one of the student's pieces perfect in workshop as if that's how you should run a workshop

#writing class i did in third year was GREATTT though so we move #didnt do a writing class in second year though because the first one was so bad LOL #my uni only offers writing at MA level so they blend a writing course into the english BA so i was like i guess this is all i got......#the first year workshop i was fighting for my life....i hate when it's structured very strictly into What Is Good About This Piece #and then Okay What Didn't We Like #rather than a fluid convo #and like there was never any discussion or teaching on how to actually actively critique and talk about a piece so none of it was productiv #my only thing i got to work with after was that i tense skipped LIKE!!! I WAS NOT FULFILLED #rip to yall but i dont categorise my stories into strictly what is good about it and what can be improved its soo much more blurred #but i'm still bitter like a class full of students and The Teacher all saying they have no suggestions to improve a story because #they think its perfect like thanks for setting a standard i guess!!#not trying to idolise like who knows what their classes are like...but im just like OOOH im so intrigued #the way they already talk about writing is so interesting to me
