Having broad taste in music leads one to find unique sound samples/progressions/drumbeats and to instantly recognize them when they're used elsewhere.

When liking video game music produces this phenomenon it's especially weird.

We were picking music for this year's choreography in my dance class and two of the options had sounds or progressions I immediately recognized.

"Saptak" by Solace has a drum sample in it that's exactly the drumline of "Hard Fought" from HL2 (both links timestamped). I think they even kept and looped the backing drone from "Hard Fought" as well (If we assume it was a direct inspiration the timing lines up, too! HL2 came out 4 years before "Saptak" was released if the date on that video is correct. Granted this may be a fairly generic D&B beat but the sound libraries are identical.)

The other track I don't have a link for yet (will edit/RB when I get one) but it absolutely has the "meow" soundbyte from "Zephyr" on the Spyro 2 soundtrack, which just about cracked me up the first time I heard it because I had never heard, nor expected to hear, that sample elsewhere. And it's not just in the background it's a major sample in the bridge!

Back in January I decided to genuinely try with music this year and have a goal of uploading a song per week on soundcloud and bruh I was feeling kind of down this week but I can HEAR the improvement on this upload vs. the last one. I'm so inspired and motivated :')

okay this is gonna sound like a weird question but. does anyone else have that weird thing where you inexplicably associate a song to a random object/place/event etc. because that's what you were into at the time of listening for the first time??

case in point: everytime i listen to "what goes around comes around" by justin timberlake (a banger imo), my mind immediately thinks of this old Spyro DS game i got for my 11th birthday because i also got a CD with that justin timberlake song on it for that same birthday.

and this is what it’s like for just about every single song i like?? like there’s always some sort of weird memory or feeling or thing that becomes associated with the song that i automatically picture in my head when the song comes on

watching videos about spyro to educate myself on a gaming staple that completely bypassed me as a poor child whose only gaming device was a gameboy from the flea market during ps1 peak era. and im like mhm mhm if i had a friend that played this i mightve gotten into it this has Vibes - and then the yter uses kh music and im vibrating because i misssssssss my babiesssssss. its like a sleeper agent my love for kh is always slumbering in there (pointing at my hollow heart)

I've changed my name so many times (at least 4 times in terms of my art handle) but it's not my fault i feel no connection to these words...even if I've used them for awhile :/ . I almost ended up fully using #'s this time around but changed my mind and used something i already had been using for gaming. I'm really hoping this one sticks because it's something personal as well as something from a thing i like (it's been a long time since ive had a screen name like that) ...not like that hasn't stopped me before but still.

I think I'm more worried about making it difficult for people to find my art cause of the different handles I've gone by. I think that's really it...

What are the gangs favorite type of video games to play? Weather it’s Mario, Pokémon, sports, rhythm games, horror games, etc etc.

Poppy prefers tabletop games more, but she can be often caught playing or seeing someone else playing The Sims. She LOVES that game - Angel has The Sims 2 installed on their computer, and when they all move to a bigger house Poppy gets her own PC so she can play TS2 as much as she wants.

Kissy doesn't play much on her own, but she really loves 3D platformers and adventure games. Her favorites are the og Spyro the Dragon trilogy! I think she loves watching others play pokémon as well.

Huggy loves racing games. Get anything with a car and he's instantly in love with it.

I can Mommy Long Legs making super over-the-top stories on The Sims 2 as well, so she and Poppy often share news of what their sims are doing. They are both active in forums and are trying to make their own custom content for the game!

Bunzo is a pokémon guy.

PJ Pug-a-Pillar doesn't like playing games in general but he LOVES watching others play, esp if there's lots of cutscenes. It's like watching a movie!

Miss Delight falls in love with Portal 2 when it's released, but I think she's really picky with her puzzle games. She likes being a bit creative on her solutions! She's also really into RPGs. I think the Fallout franchise is her comfort game.

Catnap and Craftycorn are walking Silent Hill encyclopedias, but they LOOOOVE survival horror. Catnap's fav is the original SH1, while Craftycorn loves Haunting Ground (PS2) and SH3.

Bobby on the other hand prefers Resident Evil and Clock Tower 3, but when it's not horror it's definitely a more experimental game. She cries everytime she plays Shadow of the Colossus but she loves it.

Bubba, much like Miss Delight, is SUPER into RPGs and puzzle games, but pokémon and Ace Attorney have conquered his heart. He LOOOVES gushing about it!

Picky's favorite is Animal Crossing! It makes her feel safe and she loves just walking around her town. She made a really impressive one and everyone wants updates from her villagers, Picky loves giving them.

Kickin can't get enough of any FPS or action-adventure game, and he can and WILL ragequit if he's playing online and his teammates start being rude to him or each other. Thankfully he learned really quick how to deal with the more toxic players so now he can truly relax. Unfortunately doomed to become a League of Legends player when it comes out.

Hoppy also loves FPS, but 3D platformers and open-world games are her favorites. Anything that gives her plenty of freedom to move around or just be silly immediately catches her attention! I think she becomes a Team Fortress 2 player.

Dogday prefers to watch rather than play and he gets SO invested. I think Miss Delight likes playing puzzle games with him because they figure out solutions together, but if Dogday were to chose a game for himself to play it would probably be a rythimn game. It gives him the zoomies.

The other smaller toys all have their own individual preferences, so talking about them is more complicated!

Everyone becomes obsessed with Minecraft when it's released. Catch Catnap pranking everyone on their shared beta server by pretending to be Herobrine.

When Angel gets them an Xbox 360 they have many game nights where they play on the Kinect.

Speaking of which, Angel is down to play literally everything, but all the toys know they aren't very keen on anything horror-related. Not because it's scary, it's just that Angel finds them boring after surviving Playtime Co. They probably have an encyclopedia-level knowledge of pokémon, tho.

Prototype doesn't play videogames, but enjoyes watching the others play. Just don't put ANY war games in front of him and we're all good, otherwise he stops watching.

When did you started drawing comics

OOF sorry for the delay!

So technically I started drawing comics when I was around 7 maybe?

Im in my 20s now. It was a bunch of sonic related stuff with random XD style plots, like visiting eggman at his base and shenanigans ensue--that or spyro related like @thatspyrocomic .

I had these bootleg sonic characters at some point, before I joined Deviant Art.

their personalities weren't like sonic or shadow, at all. It was the voice of reason "sam" and the sarcastic but caring one. I can't really remember them, but they kinda look like this:

I actually had this unfinished story I never posted about online, about a copy made of sonic, shadow and silver's DNA and created a biological android called Tytonic, like titanium or titanic sonic.

Tytonic.

Silver and salmony pink was a fucking bold choice on my part. He could grow a shield or attack with a spike hand and he had a mercury-like sheen with less shiney salmon parts.

I had a lot of OCs, I'll tell you guys after I get more pages done.

I don't remember much of the story anymore, but:

I think his deal was, if he touches you he can warp/steal your chaos energy, the same way sonic can use the chaos emeralds' power. It corrupts you or something and I remember sonic goes dark mode and shadow/silver have to fight him back to normal/trap him.

Tytonic gets the emeralds, but he betrays eggman when he realizes he cant harness their power, and without that, he'll die. He can't even store the power he steals from sonic, it just goes away as he uses it.

So he just starts consuming everything around him in eggman's lab, losing his mind, and prompting the doctor to beg sonic team for help.

Either way they defeat tytonic after he absorbs more power than he can handle, either through perfect chaos or shadow losing his inhibitors, but somehow he ends up ripped apart and turns to mercury-like goop--

Which eggman takes back to the lab, bumBUM BUUUUUUM sequel??????!

I think it would hurt shadow a lot, he would probably have tried to relate to him and get tytonic on their side. But he wouldnt have lasted anyway.

Pic and Pokkit Swyndel, they're the 3rd or 4th most infamous burglars who are also related and are twins and are thieves that there's ever been.

Are they good at what they do? Or are they the next Team Rocket? Pic (orange) is the neurotic one and Pokkit (green) is the hot-head.

I don't know where I'll be putting these two into my current project with the bear, but I want them in. Maybe they can be like the egg thieves in Spyro or something. Moneybags from Mario 64.

I just had a primal need for a goofy and bumbling reoccurring villain pair. I'll figure out where to cram em in later.

Skyblock Kingdoms species headcanons: expanded edition

okay so a while ago i had a post with an overview of my headcanons for the SBKers, but it was very basic bc i only had ideas for a few people . however, here is me now going completely insane. enjoy

Dark Oak:

Viking:

catboy. has ears under his hat, which is why he never takes it off.

i cant decide if he has a tail or not. itd make sense with the catboyism but not with the "able to hide it" thing

sometimes partially phases through things, and his elytra wings arent fully tangible. also: elytra are Very green.

not a species headcanon but, as is typical for when i write about Vikings: his compass points somewhere, and that somewhere is Down. if he holds his compass horizontally, the needle spins in place, but otherwise it's always pointing to the Void.

Fix:

is extremely normal. like, normal to the point where everything else just kinda.. fizzles out.

(Milkman is able to push it, but still doesn't get a strong reaction.)

if it somehow canceled out, something would be extremely up with Fix. like, this guy is Not human, hes just been made human by... whatever is causing this.

i don't know what he'd be, though. ccViking mentioned gryphon and i think that's fun considering there's a few other mythical creatures in here, but Solar has also been prodding me with the alien Fix agenda so

bleeds black gunk (if they remember to bleed, anyway)

is "stuck" as human, but when stressed, too close to the Void, or losing focus they can start to glitch out into a chaotic mess of triangles and polygons until they're grounded again

after the void jump, she's now just like.. kinda a mishmash of small winter-y animals. squirrel, ermine, fox, snowshoe rabbit, etc

congratulations! youve gotten promoted to "embodiment of winter". im sure that wont have consequences

does not have facial features under the mask. it's fine she doesn't need them where she's going

has arctic tern elytra wings

sculk is still surface-level, but it keeps regrowing when she tries to pry it off

Anathra:

android, looks human unless you play close attention - most SBKers haven't figured it out yet

used to overheat easily (especially with glasses off), but after his hair started changing color he's now freezing cold to the touch

glasses are an external attachment that lock into place, so Anathra taking them off is Very Intentional and they can't be knocked off by accident

is usually able to repair himself, but sometimes has to go to Trog or Neon for help

currently unbothered by the sculk, although he's getting a bit concerned about what damage it might do to his components if it continues spreading

Mushroom:

Elffe:

solar i am holding a hand out to you. elffebrine

(translation: what if Elffe was Herobrine. glowy eyes, teleportation, cryptid energy)

has mushrooms and crimson vines growing on him. that's probably fine

in contrast to Spruce being unnaturally cold, Elffe is unnaturally warm. radiates heat, melts snow and ice, etc

god i wish i knew literally anything abt artemis. please log back on all i know is that fallow thinks youre cool

Neon:

cyborg, but in a cassette futurism way. 90s clunky electronics.

hard to tell how much of him is organic and how much isn't. has large bulky metal parts, but also faint lines of neon green circuitry that show through his skin.

is a bit run-down and weathered after being stranded with Leon. he was starting to rust :(

Leon:

non-anthropomorphic because it's funny. scaled up to be average human size, though

has ender particles drifting off him

Been a bit since I last worked on a Spyro related enemy and introducing it to TLOS. I feel like this one of the few best bodies I made for a creature. Need to remake the ref for the Lava Lizards at some point.

"Beasts, large burly draconic animals that live among many regions of the Dragon Realms. Territorial and aggressive and boasting fierce tusks, make them formidable. They were also once used in wars from the past years of the Dragon Realms".

"The most common is the orange-colored plains variant of the beasts since they originated from the Magic Crafters region in Alpine Ridges. They soon managed to reach to the Dragon Realms, Shattered Vale, and other regions outside of their original home. Now more variants of them have appeared sporting different looks, from unique tusks, different colored fur, and spikes arrangement".

"While they are called Beasts, they are nicknamed Draco-Beasts, due to draconic look to them and their slit eyes. Their name also befits their size and attitude, they are mostly territorial and act on aggression. While its unsure why, it would bolster their reputation against competition, when facing other creatures like Lava Lizards, Metal back Spiders, and Devil Dogs".

"Lastly they were used in wars before, due to their thick hide under their durable fur, and rampaging stomping power. They were even adorned armor to bolster their ferocity as battering rams. However, after years they were never used anymore, either due to their uncontrollable nature, or simply had no use anymore".
