noxus, especially as of now, doesn't seem like it would have gender roles or too complicated rituals where courtship is concerned; and many of those might be a mishmash influenced by other cultures absorbed into the empire. we know for a fact same-sex unions between noxian soldiers happen, so there seems to be no restriction of gender or associated with being part of the military (and honestly, i think it makes sense that the empire would leave its citizens free to pursue relationships in any form they want, committed or not, considering the standard is to judge one by their usefulness to noxus)

the exception would be nobility, where bloodlines and names very much matter. arranged marriages are probably common between noble families, and courtship would likely take longer and be less about the individuals and more about proving why a marriage between those two families would be beneficial.

as the du couteau heir, katarina would have been expected to marry and have children who, in turn, would continue their house's legacy after herself. of course, she never cared for that at all (and i remember a really old interaction i had with ada's sore where her mom intended to arrange a marriage for her and katarina flat out refused to comply and was simply livid). but hey, being disowned freed her from that — and even after swain reinstates her as head of the du couteau guild, she's pretty openly anti nobility. she'd absolutely not entertain their way of doing things in any scenario.

she's very i want it, i'm going to get it in general and that's also true when it comes to relationships. if she's interested she'll act on it. honestly i feel a lot of times it'd just be impulsive; but she's not concerned at all with waiting for the other person to take the lead. she's very spontaneous when it comes to feelings; the thing is sometimes she jumps in and then backs down because she's so afraid of being betrayed and abandoned and hurt again.

when it comes to marriage specifically, it's not something she thinks about at all. she's often traveling because of work, and any partner would have to understand she won't stop coming and going like that, and that there are things she simply wouldn't share with them if it's important for noxus that she doesn't. ultimately, if she's really in love with someone and getting married is important for them and they understand the terms and conditions i think she'd accept. it's just something that doesn't matter to her, and that she wouldn't do unless she really loves her partner.

thinking about this. the fact a man tried to kill her and she ensured he'd have a proper burial by digging the grave herself. thinking about how despite their attempts to kill her she still has to convince herself her violence is justified (and i think it's a nice detail that to do so the comparison she draws is with noxus, because she never feels bad about the violence she perpetrates against noxians). thinking about how the brotherhood has already been doing fucked up things in general, not just what they do to her personally, and the fact she still can't see it as black and white and there's a conscious effort to reassure herself what she did was necessary. something something the clash of being so deeply compassionate towards her people she takes it upon herself to bury respectfully a man who'd see her dead coexisting with an enormous capacity for violence that is utterly remorseless when directed at noxus.

editing this to include this other tidbit because. i like that the old lady refers to her family despite irelia's renown not being tied to them. i like that (not just in this part but the story as a whole) they show irelia is so approachable when it comes to her own people and i like that the respect/love people have for her is also shown through smaller things like the 'any friend of yours is a friend of ours'.

and going back to what i was discussing in the first part, the fact she's. so compassionate. she cares so much for her people. even the ones who resent and hate her. she'd be completely justified to not give this man anything after he tried to kill her for not being what the brotherhood wanted her to be, but instead she gives him respect and compassion and says he deserved better than what he had in life. i always say she isn't wholly good and heroic (and she isn't) but i also think stuff like that highlight how good she can also be

As a huge fan of the Medardas, I enjoy spending my time looking for clues on their culture. One point I'd like to talk about is their hair. We haven't seen the rest of the Medarda family, but based on Ambessa and Mel, I think we can glean alot.

Think back with me to Ambessa's first appearance. Her hair is shorter, but out in all its natural glory. In contrast, Mel's hair is twisted/braided and adorned in gold for much of the show, and we only ever see the length of her hair untamed when she is in bed. Even when she is alone and at her leisure, her hair is twisted. No matter, Ambessa and Mel seem to oppose one another, even in the way they wear their hair.

This is interesting for two reasons. First, as a soldier, long hair can act as a hindrance in battle, so many keep their hair short. Second, in the trailer, we see Ambessa's hair in braids. She is dressed for war in her mask of gold and her hair is braided. And it leaves you to wonder, is it a Medarda custom to braid their hair when at war? To wear gold to war where all of Noxus wears red and black and silver?

If so, this is interesting to consider. Keeping in mind how Mel always keeps her hair twisted/braided, does Mel consider Piltover to be her battleground among the nobles? As we've never seen her take her hair down except when she is with Jayce, is this simply a nightly thing, or does it show she trusts him? Is it a look into her psyche? Perhaps a sign of vulnerability?

Ambessa, untamed, hair out and free. Mel, hair perfectly and precisely done, at all hours nothing less than pristine. I think this speaks a lot about their characters and how they interact with the world.

Can we talk about what Ambessa's wearing in the new poster?!??!!

First, her hair is giving Solari energy with the way it's fashioned to resemble a sun. More importantly she's WEARING GREEN!!!!

Ambessa's not wearing her Noxian red and black, she's repping green.

And guess what? It's Kiramann green!!!

Can we assume that Ambessa is slowly supplanting herself atop Piltover's power structure, likely completely over Mel's head? Is this a sign that Ambessa could not only become a superior to Caitlyn but a mentor/mother figure that Caitlyn will slowly turn to as she's off kilter with her anger and grief?

We do see Caitlyn wear a red collar that matches Ambessa's Noxian red.

What's crazy is that we already know someone else who dresses up in the colors of regions/kingdoms they're doing business/intrigue with...it's Mel.

Mel had on purple in Ionia (the color spiritual leaders like Karma wear), white in Piltover, and black for Noxus when her mother arrived. Ambessa might be taking a page out of Mel's playbook. I wonder if Mel would do the same to Ambessa?

Sidenote: Ironically, or maybe intentionally) this is a similar shade of green as compared to the one the princess Ambessa killed wore.

Everyone’s talking about how Arcane will start and what will happen to characters in the middle…how do you think the story will end?

Will Vi and Jinx go their separate ways (assuming both come out alive)? How will Caitlyn fare in general? Is she going to just continue soldiering on as a Sheriff? Will Vi remain the Piltover Enforcer, or evolve to be something else? Will Jayce be reduced to a power-hungry figurehead while Viktor works in the shadows of the Undercity? Will Viktor actually be an unintentional cult leader by the end? What about Ekko and Heimerdinger…how will their stories effectively end? How on earth are they going to handle the Warwick situation? Will Riot have the guts to kill a champion? What side characters will die? What will happen to Singed?????? Ambessa???? Noxus???

There’s so much to think about.

It just now really hit me that this is the last canon content we’re getting devoted to these characters (in Arcane form). We get 6 hours divided up between 11 champions and numerous other side characters…and then it’s over. Maybe new shows devoted to Bilgewater or Noxus etc…but nothing quite like the steampunky-sciency aesthetic of Piltover and Zaun. We’ve seen a little over 30 seconds of a cohesive scene from this show and I’m already devastated it’s over.

Some of My Arcane Trailer Thoughts

I've seen a little bit of speculation that this is Viktor and it definitely could be, but the placement of the stone makes me think it's Jayce.

It's almost exactly where the original crystal on his wrist cuff was.

Ambessa is killing some enforcers here.

So, what's the context? Is this just friendly fire, is this before or after she establishes her power in Piltover (martial law), or does Zaun and Piltover fight together against Ambessa/Noxus.

The last one does make me a bit nervous; because I genuinely don't want to see the solution to the problems of this city be "solved" because everyone joined to together to fight Ambessa or the Arcane or whatever.

Because, that doesn't actually solve any of their of the problems.

Now, I'm not completely worried about this, since season 1 setup the idea that everyone joining together to defeat Silco would solve all the problems and we literally saw with Silco's death, how it did not.

The problem is how Piltover oppresses and neglects the undercity; defeating some big bad, doesn't actualy resolve any of that, yes even if everyone works together.

I can't really tell, but I think this might be Ekko.

Look like they could be a match for the first one, but again, I can't really tell. I'm definitely intrigued though.

This is some interesting imagery for Heimerdinger; someone who is long-lived or immortal being blasted by something that symbolically links to his death, with us seeing his skeleton and everything.

What the fuck is with Vi's eyes?

Also, now that I've seen dark or goth Vi, I'm certain she believes Jinx is dead at this time and either she thinks she accidently killed her or thinks Caitlyn successfully killed her.

It's interesting, because I've seen one or two reactions talking about how this whole look might happen because Vi failed to stop Jinx and Jinx did some terrorist shit, and Vi had a falling out with Caitlyn (and the enforcers) because of her failure to stop Jinx.

But...

I just don't think that's nearly extreme enough to cause this whole look, because seriously, what's with her eyes?

I'm definitely intrigued with what this is all about.

My guess is Caitlyn takes her shot and causes this explosion, which as far as I can tell is in the Janna temple, and this is the moment she "kills" Jinx.

There are a few other things I've noticed - but these are the non-Timebomb thoughts and theories I have for the trailer.

THE TRAILER MAN. THAT WAS WILD.

Okay beginning with some things we notably DID NOT SEE:

-Viktor or Mel. Like not a single frame of them. I saw someone found that some version of Jayce was in there, shown by his cuff with the gem on it. But no Mel or Viktor. Interesting. I don't think Viktor and Mel fans should worry...just be hype because they are keeping whatever spoiler-y thing they are involved with a secret. At least with Viktor. There is a slim chance still of Mel being dead but. Not huge. I am sure anything they could share of her would be spoiler riddled as well, so they aren't.

NOW ON TO WHAT WE DID SEE-

-JINX GOT A NEW LOOK. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. HER FACEPAINT. THE CUT SHORT HAIR. The veil (?) thingy. Man she looks AWESOME. Was genuinely wondering if she'd get a new look and am SO Happy about it.

-MY BOY EKKO! SO much Ekko in this. More Ekko than I expected, but I am so thoroughly here for it. Him on his hoverborad, and getting caught by Vi was just *cheifs kiss*. He also seems to have some kind of Piltover-like outfit change too? I mean we know he goes there at some point this season by the shared clip...so makes sense. I am LOVEING the manbun look on him too.

-Oh yes not to mention he's been PAINTED UP Jinx style. Like...she really isn't subtle is she XD? The scene where is is talking about letting things go to move forward you can also see in the corner Jinx's blue hair. And that is on top of that sentiment really making sense for him to say to Jinx.

-It does make me curious why they wove that in with a shot of something happening to Heimerdinger though...is something gonna happen to the small fluffly old man? Maybe. The trailer is out to maybe make us think so.

-Vi looks to be having he worst time for most of this trailer. Which isn't a shock, from what we've heard. But her in from of the mirror hurt me so bad. Can I just hug her? I feel like hugging her. There is a bit of hope seeing her working with Ekko, that lifted my heart a little.

-VI V. WARRICK (probably VANDER) AHHH I AM NOT READY HELP.

-Cait, my girl, I hope you get through this revenge phase quickly please. I love you, I get your feelings. Talking about ripping laughs out of peoples throats is not the best approach to dealing with these things.

-That said cooperation between Caitlyn and Ambessa is...interesting. Very interesting. Makes sense with the 'you will have vengeance' line. But am very curious the way that will play out and how long Caitlyn is gonna take to catch on that working with Noxus might not be the best thing ever. Cause yea I do think that partnership isn't gonna last long.

In general, I am so hyped up. I want Novemeber to be here like yesterday.

I just realized how much we have au:s and how often we forget about them and then come up with something new that has some similiarities to the old au:s.......

so I WAS going to post another long winded rant about Disney's Wish (I'll post that later) but Arcane decided to post another 30 second Teaser for us; and announcing the Trailer (yes, FULL Trailer AHHH! *ahem* sorry) is going to be releasing on September 5th! But let's get into what they showed us in this little teaser shall we? (go check out the teaser first it's only like 30 seconds and as usual, leaks will be blocked and deleted)

With this one frame they've already showed us several things. they've confirmed everything that was talked about Vi at the Annecy festival (some people were kinda skeptical if this was something that was legitimate for a while, myself included), and they've confirmed for me that Vi and Caitlyn are going their own ways at the beginning of the season (for a little while, at least). Vi tries to figure herself out in Zaun while Caitlyn's still an Enforcer up in Piltover. They also seem to be confirming the idea that there's some kind of time skip happening in s2 (not as large as s1 but there's something). And why I believe this is because Jinx is being painted in the same light as Vander, as someone that's respected in Zaun. People have already started rallying behind her at this point in the story.

Now, the bigger meat of the teaser:

I put Caitlyn and Jinx side by side for a couple reasons. Not only are these two taking on more of a leadership role this season, they're enforcing the idea that these two are the two sides of the same coin they hinted at in season 1 (they just both seem to be heading in the opposite direction the other was in season 1, if that makes sense), but they both have a figure explaining to them what they need to do for the better of Zaun/Piltover: Ambessa and Sevika. However, each of these characters are being told different things. Ambessa is a War general, she believes that in restoring peace Caitlyn needs to declare Martial Law aka military government and it seems that Caitlyn not only does this but she allies herself with Ambessa and Noxus in order to do this. On the other hand, Sevika's explaining to Jinx that she's the one that can rally Zaun together (and it seems that Ekko might actually be joining her on this). Because under both Vander and Silco there were still people opposed to how the Undercity was run (Under Vander, he was playing it safe with Piltover but Piltover was treating the Undercity badly but under Silco he was a kingpin and several people were still suffering under the effects of Shimmer and the only reason the Enforcers weren't as hostile because of Silco's allyship with Marcus, until Jinx steals the gemstone and Piltover retaliates). But with Zaun actually being at war with Piltover now, Jinx needs to be seen as a symbol for Zaun for people to rally behind, because to them Topside is the bigger enemy.

(I just had to add this pic of Sevika because like God Damn she looks so attractive here like step on me! *ahem* sorry, had a bit of gay panic there...moving on...)

Now, I'm going to hold off on giving my overall thoughts until the full trailer drops in a couple of days. just so that I can gather some more thoughts about where season 2 is going as a whole and when I'm given some more information to glean from, granted I'm SURE that the trailer won't give us any clear cut information because Arcane is great at that.

Oh one last thing:

Jinx's poster in for S2 has her being strangled by Vi's gauntlet, and Jinx is faced upsidown (with the caption "Time to turn things upsidedown") which i presume is just how different everyone/everything is going to be different compared to the last season. but i do wonder What Happens between Vi and Jinx that gets them like this? Because there Has to be a scene between the two that ends badly (probably before we see Vi with her black hair and leather, because in the earlier pic i showed Vi's already seeing Jinx pained alongside Vander)

Time travel? In my Arcane!? More likely than you think.

OK, I’ve been going crazy because a few scenes from the trailer just got me thinking. We could potentially be getting to see the worst possible outcome before everything is fixed and we did just a bittersweet outcome.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about this image.

That’s Ekko with his little time travel device. Normally, he can only use it to travel and fix a few local temple things. Like a few minutes or hours back in time. But the Ekko video game suggest that through time he can improve it and go back even further. Proof of this is future Ekko.

Now there are a few scenes we see in arcane that I’m really trying to figure out where they have time to put them. Thematically I mean. I’m of course talking about goth Vi.

This could be a bad future. One where Piltover and Zaun are just controlled by Noxus. One where Vi is depressed after killing jinx. And one where Ekko has mastered his technology and traveled back in time to fix everything. 

After all, we haven’t seen this play out yet

And I could lead to everything crumbling. So that Ekko can go back and put it all back together.

Still no idea what Viktor is up to.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AND THEORIES UNDER THE CUT

Don't read if you don't want to know any theories, bare in mind these are simply theories that have come from my brain and not spoilers, just some pieces that came to me after the trailer, so if you wanna continue, crack on.

So after spending another day thinking of theories for S2, one thing came to my head about the Caitvi reunion....

What if Wawrick comes into contact with Caitlyn and Vi knowing its Vander, (lets be real we all know its him at this point) comes in to stop anyone hurting him. I have a theory that her and Jinx will meet in the interim between the Caitvi breakup so she will be there too.

Caitlyn is shocked to see Vi in all her pit fighter get up, a fight ensues and Vi gets hurt causing Cait to become sick with worry and run to her side. Jinx tries to control Wawrick but he escapes and Jinx goes after him. Ambessa being with Cait will tell her to leave Vi and thats where she realises Ambessa is just using her for her own gain.

Caitlyn then takes Vi to patch her up, in that time when Cait is cleaning her, King Princess is playing to her wiping away the grime, blood, and everything else, washing her hair and slowly unwrapping her hands and delicately taking care of her when the song is playing. (This would do me in if that happens).

Then makeup sex occurs really slow and sensual and just leaving everything out there.

Cut to some other scene I haven't though of yet...

Then it cuts back to them in bed the morning after, they talk it all out and confess their undying love for each other (Yes I want this to happen haha) and then we see Vi become one of the enforcers again in her new get up to fight Noxus because somehow in all of this Zaun and Piltover join forces against Noxus (I mean Ambessa wants weapons and is probably making everything worse from the trailer.)

I have more theories on what happens after this but jEsus if anything like this happens I will be actual putty in Riots and Fortiche's hands.

Alright I'm gonna ruffle some feathers I think but idk I gotta say something.

For this moment and this moment only I'm going to set aside the rabid Viktor fan that I am and speak as a slightly less rabid Vi fan. She's a very close second and I relate to her the most out of the cast. Love her. So on and so forth. At this point the marketing is frustrating me less as a Viktor fan and more as a Vi fan.

When the Annecy people talked about a goth Vi fighting in the pits piss-drunk mad seeing crazy things I was ECSTATIC. Like holy shit that's such a major turn in her personality! Really fills out that whole "what does Vi do when she has no one left to protect" thing! Wow! Not to mention she's gonna be hot but that's a given. What a shocking thing to see when November comes around aaaand there she is in the trailer okay. Along with what is presumably her act 3 timeskip design judging by the longer hair. Element of surprise gone. Cool.

So where the Viktor part of me gets to waste hours yapping about where he's gonna be in season 2, what his arc will be, what he's gonna look like, what's gonna cause divorce era... feel like we're running out of room for speculation for the main 3. Room for imagination, if you will.

Like WE'VE BEEN KNEW ABOUT PIT FIGHTER VI. This isn't a surprise sneak peek anymore, everyone's either seen her in the trailer or at least heard about the Annecy stuff. Personally I no longer have the same level of insane jittery excitement to see how that arc goes in s2 anymore. Her new design is no longer a surprise and they're going to show even more tomorrow lol. I have little room to ponder "huh wonder what VI's gonna be up to." Pit fighter arc gets started and instead of my jaw dropping going "oh my god Vi honey you really are broken aren't you noooo" it's just... yeah that thing I saw during a Netflix event. Damn. Looks cool still but it's not a shock.

This massive point in both the plot and Vi's arc has become a marketing hype machine. Which dampens, you know, the whole "telling a story" thing.

What do I have to speculate about? Cait's whole iron-fist arc is fairly obvious via marketing, Vi's three-act structure has been pretty clearly laid out, they even spoiled Noxus/Ambessa turning on Piltover. Yeah, think we saw it coming, sure, but I kind of like being able to speculate on stories I enjoy. At least Jinx's revolutionary thing is pretty up in the air (which I still believe is a misdirect but I digress).

Please don't get me wrong, I really like her design and I'm still very excited to see where it goes! Obviously there's still plenty of details in between to fill out and yes I'm being slightly dramatic and yes my salt towards yet again no Viktor may be contributing to this frustration and YES pit fighter Vi is sick and the clip will be cool as fuck no matter what. But I'm honestly a little surprised everyone's so thrilled about this. I'm (likely) not watching it solely to preserve at least some element of surprise because I'm so excited for Vi next season and it sucks that they're just giving this all out in marketing.

Assuming this is the Annecy clip, that's just kinda lazy to reuse btw. But whatever this is lengthy and poorly worded enough.

Anyway bringing back the Viktor fan that I am yes I'm bitter yes I miss him yes I will not stop insisting that throwing in a few voice lines is not only perfectly reasonable as a teaser but would be more effective marketing wise than burning out the Cait/Vi/Jinx stuff bc deadass what else can they show us at this point okay thank you goodnight
