I don’t know how I forgot to mention this, but during TSH’s signing, Holly had said “I tend to do the opposite of what people tell me”. So when it was my turn to get my book signed, I told her “Please never write TFOTA from Cardan’s POV and never give us more Cardan content in the future”, to which she responded by first just staring blankly at me and then she got it and cackled saying “We will see” 😭

I just want to feel safe - Walter Marshall fanfic. Part 1?
Okay. Preface. This story has mentions of sexual assault. This is a personal story. But I've changed a lot of the names and some of the actual story to fit the fic. I think that I've decided this is going to be a series. It's taken a lot out of me writing this but. I really love Walter and I can see this relationship growing into something more than what is here. I also think that from a healing standpoint, I'm gonna write the story I never gave myself the chance to have. Anyway. That's enough from me. I'll let you guys read the story now. I know this is a heavy topic and situation but I'm still always open to comments and feedback. Thank you guys for the support in posting this <3
Plot: OFC reports assault after 2 years and Detective Walter Marshall is assigned to her case. He will stop at nothing to help her feel safe again.
Warnings: Panic attacks, mentions of sexual assault (retelling the story of what happened.)
Unbeta'd Mistakes are totally my own and I own that. This might be a mess because honestly I was super emotional writing this but it felt good to get it all down.
Please don't share without crediting.

I’m not sure what I expected a police station to be like. Frankly I’d never really imagined myself in one. Kind of funny how things can change like that. All of a sudden you’re doing things you’d never imagine. That’s how I ended up here. In this strangely familiar looking police station. I guess maybe that’s the one thing movies and Tv got right. Police stations for the most part look exactly the same. This whole night started from a list of  “Fuck it why not’s” that spiraled out of control. But that explanation alone was not enough to help the officer help me. I looked back at the petite woman in front of me. I’m sure she was a good police officer. I wasn't trying to doubt her skill. But her overly sympathetic nature and deer in the headlights look on her face was making me feel worse.
“I know this is hard.” She spoke softly, placing her hand over mine on the table. She didn’t know. She had no idea what this was like. Being attacked like this. Letting yourself become vulnerable because ‘why not’ I’d known those boys my entire life. When my brother invited me out for drinks with his friends, I didn’t have a reason not to trust them. Not to trust… him. My brother didn’t know. He couldn’t have known. He was betrayed too. “But I need you to tell me what you remember, what happened to you, so we can help you.” I looked around again At the empty gray walls. Out the window into the dark cloudy night sky. It must be almost midnight now. Anywhere but at the woman in front of me. What did she say her name was? Rachel? I focused on the empty desk chair behind her when I finally spoke.
“It doesn’t matter. I remember all of it. Every detail. But we have no case.” I muttered I looked down playing with my hands again.
“Alayna,” She said my name softly. I met her eyes again for the first time since we sat at her desk. “You don’t know that. You did the right thing coming here and reporting it. I need you to talk to me.” She pleaded with me. She didn’t understand.
“No,” I said again. “I do know.”
“How do you know we can’t help you?” She asked her eyes boring into mine. I know she wants to help. I know that but I just don’t see how they  can. not after it’s been so long.
“There’s no evidence.” I said.
“Sweetheart, with all due respect you aren’t a police officer we may be able to find something you wouldn’t think to look…”
“It was two years ago.” Rachel paused then. She took a deep breath and sat back in her chair.
“2 years ago?” she repeated. I nodded. She let out a soft sigh. “Sweetie, Why did you wait so long to tell somebody?” She asked. This felt more manageable. This I at least knew the answer for. It was logical. It made sense. Well it doesn’t really make much sense but when you’re bargaining with yourself it does.
“I didn’t think it would matter. I’m still not sure it does.” I said. I swallowed hard. Now or never Alayna. You didn’t walk 3 miles to the police station, in the cold, after a panic attack to not give yourself some kind of peace. I let out a long breath and started again but then the door of the squadroom opened. A tall figure walked in. I couldn’t make out much of him at first. Just that he was very tall, 6,1 or something and had a full beard. He was wearing a heavy winter coat and beanie. I tensed a little when  I watched him walk from the entrance to the desk next to Rachel’s. He shrugged off his coat revealing a thick gray sweater. He draped his coat over his chair and pulled off his beanie. His hair was a mess of dark curls. As soft and cozy as he should have looked…Something still felt intimidating about him. Maybe it was because he hadn’t spoken a word since he’d walked in the room. None of us had actually.
“Alayna,” Rachel said my name, getting my attention and finally breaking the silence. “This is detective Walter Marshall. He’s going to be working on your case.” That’s right. When I came in to report, the officer on duty at the station had to attend to a call. When I told them I wanted to report an assault, they told me that they’re psychiatrist was still in the office.  I  could talk to her until one of the detectives was available. I think they were afraid if they told me to come back later… I wouldn’t. They were probably right. Although I’m not quite sure if it would be because I’d lost my nerve or dying of hypothermia on the walk home.  Rachel wasn’t even a detective. Was I really that out of it? Why didn’t I remember that until now?
“Okay,” was all I managed to say.
“I can stay,” she said. I'm not sure if it was for me or the detective. Maybe both. “If you’re more comfortable. If it’s easier for you. Ya know?” she asked. I shook my head and I watched as the detective…Walter, put his hand on her shoulder.
“Go home, it's been a long day,” he told her. His voice was deep but he spoke softly. And surprisingly he had an English accent. “We’ll manage,”  his eyes were tired and heavy when they met mine. He offered a gentle smile. I nodded.
“You’re sure?” She asked.
“I don’t want to keep you Rachel. I can talk to the detective.” I said. She nodded.
“Okay, wait right here, just a moment while I catch him up okay? And then you two will get started.”  I gave her a slight nod and just stared out the window again. Rachel and the detective went off into a side office somewhere to discuss what I’d already mentioned. This was sure to be quick now. As soon as she tells him how long it’s been, he’ll dismiss me. This was so stupid. I’d kept this to myself for this long. I knew this was a bad idea. Just as I had convinced myself to get up and leave the office door opened again.
“Thank you,” Walter’s voice said from across the room. “Get home safe.” he told Rachel as she waved goodbye. I gave her a small wave. I sat back in the chair trying to relax. But I knew I couldn’t. He came back over to the desk leaning his hip against it, crossing one foot over the other. “Are you comfortable out here or would you like to talk in my office?” He asked. “There aren’t too many people still around this late but, it would offer a bit more privacy than the open squadroom. It’s up to you.” He stated. I thought about it for a moment. Finally, I  pulled my eyes from the window to look up at him.
“I think I’d feel better with a little more privacy,” I said. He gave me a sympathetic smile.
I stood up from my spot next to the desk.  Then he led me out of the squadroom and down the hall to a small office. There wasn’t much, just a large desk with nothing but a computer and a travel coffee mug on it. The walls were bare other than a standard wall clock. He motioned for me to take a
seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk as he shut the door behind us. He circled around to the other side of the desk, setting a file down and taking a seat across from me.
“You’re reporting  an assault, is that right?” He asked. I nodded.
“Yes, not a recent one. I’m sure Rachel informed you.” I said. I felt so ashamed of myself. I was wasting his time. Detective Marshall’s eyes met mine. I didn’t find the same overly sympathetic look in his eyes like I did with Rachel. He wasn’t pitying me. He wasn’t trying to psychoanalyze  me. At the same time, it wasn’t cruel or harsh. Not even annoyed. Just open.
“She did,” he spoke after a brief pause. “But I’d like to hear the information from you myself. If that's alright with you?” He questioned. I swallowed hard. I leaned forward and folded my hands on the desk.
“I can do that.” My voice shook when I spoke. “Will I need to write a witness statement too?” I asked him. Telling this story once was going to be hard enough. Seeing it written on paper was going to be gut wrenching.
“Let’s just get through this conversation first. We’ll talk about the rest later, "he said. I nodded. He sat with his forearms leaning on the desk and his hands folded together. He pursed his lips into a tight small smile and nodded toward me. “Whenever you’re ready.” He stated. I swallowed hard. Of course it didn’t necessarily mean that. It was after midnight now. This guy probably wanted to get home. I had to get this out.
“November 12th, or well 13th I guess. It was around 1:30 or 2am so the 13th. My brother, his friends and I had gone out for his birthday. It wasn’t his birthday though, we had to wait until the weekend to celebrate because it fell during the week.” I was rambling. He needed details. I need to stop rambling. “Uh anyway, We were at a bar, earlier that night on the 12th, but I got kind of tired. The boys were picking on me for being a lightweight and leaving early. I left the bar at 11, got home at like 11:15. I went right to bed. I was really tired. The boys were all gonna come back to the house when they were done at the bar. I woke up to the bedroom door bursting open at like 1 am and someone yelling my name. I screamed. It was my brother's friend. Um.” I paused for a second, starting to feel uncomfortable. Did I have to describe it exactly? What did I have to say? But Walter spoke, easing the tension a bit.
“And what’s his name?” He asked me.
“His name is Justin, uh Justin Veach.” I responded. Walter nodded for me to continue as he wrote a note in his folder. He put the pen down and looked up at me again letting me know he was listening.
“Uh He said, ‘It’s okay! Don’t freak out, it's just me! We’re back, come hang out with us!’ Then he came over to my bed and kissed my face which was weird but he was an affectionate guy and well they were still drunk. I didn’t think much of it. He’d known me since I was a baby. He and my brother had been best friends since kindergarten. They were ten years older than me and he watched me grow up.” I shuttered a little thinking about it. “Um so after that he left. After telling me to come down stairs to talk with them again. And I did. We sat in the kitchen. I just sat there sleepy and confused. The boys were talking and eating drunk snacks or whatever,” I kind of chuckled a little. “It was nice. But we were talking about how it’s so funny that I’m old enough to go drink with them now. And Justin kept making these comments about remembering when I was born and that I was such a beautiful baby. It seemed so weird. But looking back. He knew. He knew what he was planning on doing…. We all said we were gonna go to bed. Blake, my brother, told Justin he could sleep on the couch or they could share his bed or whatever. But Justin was coming up the stairs with us and he said ‘I wanna cuddle’ to me, and he was still drunk and I thought he was joking so I laughed it off and said ‘yeah sure’ I let him lay in my bed. But I put myself on the inside. I thought he was just gonna lay there a minute and like it would be a joke. Blake did too. He asked if I was okay before he went to his room. Because he was still kinda drunk and ready to crash. I said. I was. But Justin didn’t just lay  there. He took off his pants before he got into the bed so he was just in boxers and his shirt. And,”
I was shaking. I couldn’t do this anymore. I was gonna cry. I didn’t know this man. He was surely annoyed by me and. God he probably thought I was lying. That’s what Justin would tell him. When he confronts him. That I’m lying. Or maybe that's what I wanted. This was so stupid  I shouldn’t have come here. I swallowed hard again. I looked back up at walter. I could feel the tears in my eyes.
“Take your time.” He said softly. “Is this when he hurt you?” He asked.
“I can’t,” my voice was trembling now. “I’m sorry I’ve wasted your time, I can’t do this.” I sobbed. I stood up to leave his office. Walter stood and walked to the other side of the desk gently reaching out and putting his hand on my shoulder. “There’s nothing you can do, I know that. I wasted your time detective. I’m so sorry.”
“Hold on,” Walter’s voice was low. “Sit back down, and breathe for a moment. If anything else I can’t let you walk out of here and drive home in this state.” I looked at his face. He was concerned. Worried about me. About my safety. I sat back down in the chair. I took a deep breath trying to compose myself again. But I couldn’t seem to catch my breath. “It’s okay, You’re safe in here. I’m going to do everything I can to help you Alayna.” Detective Marshall said, crouching down in front of me to meet my eyes again. I nodded. “Do you think you can keep going?” he asked. I nodded again. He stood and leaned on the edge of his desk. His proximity seemed to help keep my calm. I don’t know what was so different between him and talking with Rachel. But when he said he could help, I believed him. Maybe it was the sheer size of this man. Or the gun on his hip. Or maybe there was something in his aura or some other bullshit I didn’t understand that was protective and made me trust him. Fuck maybe I’d gone to far to turn back now and I was too emotionally exhausted not to lean on anyone who would listen. Whatever it was, I continued.
“At first I was just laying next to him. Like I was saying, I thought it was a joke. But he wrapped his arm around me to make me cuddle him.. I guess. He started rubbing my back. I froze up. I started to recognize that his hand was lingering where it shouldn’t but I couldn’t say anything. And this guy he’s .. he’s huge. I mean like 6 foot and like 400 lbs when he rolled over on to me and started touching me I felt paralyzed I couldn’t move but… I couldn’t have pushed him off if I’d tried. I just felt hopeless. That’s when everything happened.” I sniffled softly. I hiccuuped catching my breath. “It was like I was outside of myself watching it all happen…I .. I don’t know if that makes sense? But I couldn’t do anything. All I could do was lay there. I don’t remember if I said no. But,
“You didn’t consent. That’s no. This was not your fault. You’ve already tried to blame yourself. It’s a really common thing, unfortunately, that you can’t react. But that doesn’t mean that you let it happen. Or that you wanted it to happen.”  Walter said softly. I nodded at the ground.
“Afterward he, he fell asleep and I showered, I had to get rid of the feeling of him. I slept on the couch, Well I tried to. The next morning he was came down and sat with  all of us like nothing had happened. I had mentioned that my back had hurt the night before. And he moved closer to me and rubbed it for me. I couldn’t move. I didn’t react…again. I just. I don’t know. All I could think was, I didn’t wanna start anything. But I also couldn’t make sense of what happened. When he left I changed the sheets. I threw them away actually. My clothes were washed. But eventually I couldn’t look at them anymore. I threw them away too.”
“Why do you think it took you so long to say anything?” Walter asked me.
“I wasn’t even sure it happened. I wasn’t sure I could call it what it was. I mean he was drunk, I just… Just laid there. It took me over a week to tell my best friend. But It took almost 4 months after talking it out with her and one of my other friends for me to face it and call it what it was. But I still can’t say it.”
“And why are you here now? What made you report it?” He raised an eyebrow. I took a deep breath. This has been eating at me so long but. This month. This 2 year “anniversary.” If you could call it that. Has been terrorizing me.
“It’s all I could think about the last couple of weeks. I started having nightmares. Seeing him in my dreams. Before when I dreamt about it, I always got away. Someone always stopped him. But now. Now I’m trapped all overagain. It happened in my childhood home. In the room I grew up in. I’ve moved out since then. I live alone. He doesn’t even live in that town anymore. He lives 3 hours away from me. The chances that I’ll run into him are slim. And I don’t have any
reminders of it anymore. But Sometimes if I wake up and I’m laying next to the wall it sends me into a panic. If I see someone with a similar body type or with a similar voice it shut down. He’s over a 100 miles away. But I don’t feel safe. I’m losing my mind! I’m getting up to check the lock on the door like 10 times before I can go to sleep. What if he just walks in like he did then. He doesn’t even know where I live. But I’ve never confronted him. And he has a wife! And Kids. He did when he did this to me. I can’t get over that. She needs to know but … I don’t, I don’t know what to do! That’s why I’m here, I had another panic attack, I didn’t trust myself to drive. So I walked. ” I was in tears again. He must think I’m so weak. So stupid. What an idiotic thing to do.
“I understand, and first I want to say, I’m sorry that you went had to experience that. It’s a good you were able to tell your friends, but you were seemingly dealing with this alone for a long time. I’m sure that’s taken a toll on you. The next thing I need to ask you, is what you want to do now that you’ve told me.” I took in his words. He was right. This has been so heavy. And I’ve carried it alone for so long. But now that I’m here I never thought there would be options.
“What can we even do? It’s been so long?” I asked.
“Not too long though, if you want to press charges, and see him convited for this, that’s still on the table. If that’s what you want to do then yes, I do need you to write a witness statement. There will be a lot of other legal things that need to be done and signed. Then we can start an investigation. I know you think there isn’t anything here. But well do you trust me?” He asked. Did I? I didn’t know him. But Rachel seemed to. And he had his own office. That must mean he’s some high status detective right? And there was just something about him. Why did he feel so safe. It wasn’t the gun. It was. It was him. I did trust him.
“I do,” I spoke finally.
“I’ve put people away, on much less than what you’ve given me tonight.” He said. That felt good. To know he could lose everything. Like he made me lose my sense of security. But then my stomach dropped.
“W-would I have to see him?” I asked meekly.
“In court yes, possibly in a line up. But definitely in court. We would need your testimoney,”
“I- I don’t know if I can do that, I don’t know if I can face him.” I shook again.
“There will be officers in the court. You won’t be near him. He won’t be able to get to you.”
“Will you be there?” I asked suddenly.
“If you’d like, yes, I can be there.” He said giving me a soft smile.
“Can I think about it?” I asked meeting his eyes again.
“Of course,” He stood and walked back to the other side of his desk. “It’s been a long night emotionally for you, if you’re ready tomorrow to make a decision you can come back in the morning.” He said typing a something quickly on his computer. “If you’ll wait just a few minutes I can gladly give you a ride home. It’s far too cold for you to walk, even it’s a block away.” He offered. I nodded.
“Thank you, I appreciate that. It’s, well its actually 3 miles.” I stated biting my lip awkwardly. He let out a soft chuckle and smiled.
“Well, I surely can’t let you walk that far this late. I’ll get you home safe.” He said. He finished typing whatever it was he was doing on his computer. Then he locked the file in his desk. He stood and gestured for me to lead out of the office. He turned the light off and locked it behind him. Oh God I’d kept him after his shift.
“I’m sorry for keeping you,”
“Oh, no don’t appologize, this is common practice for me. This is honestly the earliest I’ve left in weeks.” He said as we walked back to the squadroom. He grabbed his coat from the desk chair. “Do you have everything?” He asked. I nodded.
He led us out of the station and to his truck in the parking lot. Once we were settled in, I gave him my address so he could drive me home. I watched out the window as he drove down the familiar streets. The drive was silent. The closer we got the more I got this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Back home. Back home to be alone again. I was so scared. What if he knew where I lived. I didn’t feel safe. It wasn’t long before the detective was pulling up in front of my building.
“Thank you,” I spoke breaking the silence for the first time since we’d left the police station.
“Of course,” He reached into his pocket pulling out a business card. “Take the night and decide what you’d like to do.” He said and then handed me the card. “That’s my cellphone number. If there’s anything else you need call…”
“Would you come in?” I cringed the second the words left my mouth.
“I, I can search the place, If you’d like. If it would make you more comfortable.” He offered.
“I mean, could you…” I can’t believe I was asking this, “Stay?” the word came out barely above a whisper. I sighed. I turned toward the window squeezing my eyes shut. “I’m sorry that was stupid, You probably have a wife, and a family to get home to. That was so inconsiderate. I just. I was afraid and I… I’ll just go.” I opened the door.
“You don’t feel safe, do you?” He asked. I paused and shook my head. I didn’t. I hadn’t for weeks. But I couldn’t ask this guy to give up his time for me.
“I don’t but, It’s okay. It’s just that there’s only one deadbolt lock on the door. And I don’t know sometimes that doesn’t feel like enough. And I can’t seem to get any sleep. But that’s not up to you. I have to figure this out. You’ve done so much to help me already detective.” I rambled. Walter let out a long breath.
“You’ve got a lot on your mind right now and a lot to consider.” He said. “I’m sure the lack of sleep isn’t helping at all, You could use a good nights rest.”  He stated.
“But it’s not you’re responsibility and I don’t want to take you away from your family.” I said.
“I, well I live alone actually.” He bit his lip awkwardly “Why don’t you stay with me for the night? I’ve got some work to catch up on anyway. I probably won’t be getting much sleep. You wouldnt’t be putting me out.”
“Are you sure?” I asked raising an eyebrow. I’d given this poor guy enough trouble. And he was being so kind. Walter nodded. Honestly. The way I was feeling I didn’t have the energy to consider it any longer. I shut the door and walter put the truck in drive.
It was almost 2 am when we walked into his house.
“I can just sleep on the couch I, I really don’t want to be any trouble.”
“You aren’t,” He assured me. “And please, you can sleep in the bedroom, I rarely sleep there anyway. It’d be nice to know someones getting use out of it.” He smiled. I nodded and he showed me to the room and left me to get comfortable. He said he’d be down stairs likely working in his office if I needed anything. I took in the room everything seemed to be a dark navy color the comforter, the curtains the sheets. I chuckled to myself. That made sense for him.
I slipped off my shoes and slid under the covers. This should feel strange. And it did. But I was safe. And I hadn’t felt that way in a while. I let that feeling take over as I tried to fall asleep. But my mind started to wander again. What if he found out I reported it. What would happen. Or What would he do when they arrested him. What would he say about me. Would he say I wanted it. Tell them I didn’t push them away. Try to convince them that I was lying somehow? He was good at that. And he had a friend from college that was a lawyer. Surely he already had a story. Maybe he’d been prepared since it had happened. I started to shake again. I could feel my heart rate speeding up. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t hear the footsteps up the stairs. I didn’t see him come in. I didn’t even realize that I’d started  to cry again until I noticed he was next to me saying my name.
“Alayna. Alayna. It’s okay. You’re okay. Take a deep breath.” He soothed.
“I can’t, I can’t… what if he tries to come after me. What if.. What if he tells them… what if tries to tell them I wanted him to…I don’t think I can do this.” I sobbed. Walter wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
“He can’t get to you. We’ll be sure of that. All that matters, is that you’ve told us the truth. As long as you have, and as long as you confirm that in court. No matter what he says or what anyone believes, it won’t matter. I want to help you. I want you to feel safe again. I think the only way we can do that. Is to put this guy away. I’m not gonna stop until we do. I won’t let him hurt you again.”  He said.  Pulling me closer to him.
“Do you have a sister?” I asked after a brief pause sniffling softly.
“No,” He shook his head and leaning back against the headboard letting me rest my head against his shoulder. “But I have a daughter.” He said.
“Is that why you do what you do?” I asked. He smiled. But he was quite for a moment.
“Not at first. When I was younger and I first started out, it was just something that I liked. Something I was good at. But when my exwife and I had our daughter, a lot of that changed. It became personal. To an unhealthy point honestly.” He chuckled at himself. “I guess to my own detriment.”
“Is that why you’re still working even though you clocked out hours ago? You could use some good sleep too detective.” I stated. Starting to relax.
“I haven’t slept well in ages,” He said. “Focusing on the job, oddly enough, keeps my mind off everything else. There are some horrible people in this world. I don’t have to explain that to you. I get so in my own head about how, it could be her. If I spend anymore time considering the what ifs I’d keep her locked in a tower,” He chuckled.
“I understand that. But surely, If she was raised by you, she’s a smart girl. But.. well I guess,” I sighed. “Nevermind.” Walter squeezed my shoulder softly.
“Thank you, I know what you mean.” He smiled sympathetically.
“I’m going to do it.” I said suddenly. “Press charges, I mean. You’re right. Knowing can still get to me. Knowing he’s out there. That’s what’s causing me all this stress and …I can’t keep going on like this.” I stated.
“I can take you back to the station tomorrow.”
“Thank you,” I whispered. “Walter?” I asked nervously biting my lip.
“Yeah?”
“Will you stay here? I don’t know what it is I just feel.. Safer when you’re here.” I blushed softly. Walter adjusted so that he was lying on the bed. I moved and laid my head on the pillow.
“Get some sleep darling. I’ll be right here.”

family day | writer wednesday
Pairing: Ezekiel Reyes x Black!OFC [Lena] Summary: Lena comes to the clubhouse to meet the guys. Tags: Angsty Fluff, Unresolved Feelings. Word Count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
“Come by the clubhouse this weekend. We’re having a cookout. A family day.”
Lena tutted her skepticism while Ezekiel spoke. She had only caught glimpses of the Mayans’ gatherings, parties, whatever, but nothing about them screamed family-friendly. “Pops and Angel will be there.” She wanted to giggle at him using his father and brother as bargaining chips, but his voice had gotten more desperate with each word until he was almost pleading. She pouted on the other end of the line. He wasn’t playing fair.
“And most importantly...you?” Lena teased. He smiled. She could hear it in his tone. “Yeah. I’ll be there too. You?” She let out a dramatic sigh as if he were pulling her leg, but she had already made up her mind.
Since she and Ezekiel reconnected, Lena found herself in Santo Padre every other weekend. Usually, she arrived early on Saturday mornings, and Ezekiel held her close on his pull-out bed (which was surprisingly comfy considering). When they finally awoke for the day, he took her on little adventures. It was always something sweet and exciting-- an intimate ride on the back of his bike to somewhere beautiful. They revisited the beach, this time during the day. He chased her around in the sand, tickled her from behind in the salty water. Lena was able to stop and relax, see things she would never have been able to otherwise. It was so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of city living. She missed the simplistic beauty of nature.
Other times, he took her places to remind her of the past. The Carnival they frequented as teenagers, to the old ice cream parlor down the street from his dad’s shop. They spent all the time they could together, and when Ezekiel was busy with club business, she spent the time with her parents, helping them out around the house with whatever she could. There wasn’t much to do, there had never been, but something about it was enjoyable. Being in Santo Padre felt like stepping into a time machine. Nothing had changed. It was psychological warfare on Ezekiel’s part, but Lena never called him out on it. So, she relented, the way she always did when it came to him. “Yeah. I’ll be there.”
True to her word, Lena arrived at the Mayans clubhouse around noon, several homemade cakes in tow. Ezekiel met her outside as she was getting out of the car. “I didn’t know you still baked.” It had been a hobby of hers in high school, something inexpensive and fun to do while stuck in the house. Many things about her had changed, but some hadn’t. The thought made him smile. Maybe there was more hope for them than she thought after all.
“I told you, you didn’t have to bring anything.”
“I know, but I don’t like to show up places empty-handed. Can you take this, please? I need to get the other boxes out of the car still.” Ezekiel scooped the cardboard cake box from her. She kissed his cheek in thanks. It was out of instinct, an old habit, but he froze.
“What, I can’t kiss you now?” Yes, they had been sleeping together. Quite often, actually. And they had been going out on what most people would call dates, but they hadn’t been kissing. Not really. It would make what they were doing real. Lena avoided it as much as possible to protect herself. But the lines had started to blur, and she couldn’t distinguish the nostalgia from her real feelings. She would have to make a decision soon.
Ezekiel took advantage of her being distracted, pushing forward until her back rested against the closed car door. He sat the cake box on top of the car. “You can kiss me as much as you want. I just prefer you do it...” His lips brushed against hers. “...here.” She couldn’t think about anything when he kissed her like that. Nothing but him, the way he tasted on her tongue, what he felt like up against her. She closed her eyes tight and tried to memorize it all, kissing him with just as much desperation.
“Damn, Prospect, I know you’ve been out of the game awhile, but you should at least get the lady inside the trailer first!”
And then Angel fucking Reyes had to go and ruin it.
Ezekiel broke the kiss with a groan, giving his older brother a scalding look over his shoulder. But Angel didn’t care about things like not interrupting people or being polite, so he made his way over to them anyway, clapping his baby brother on the back. “Give her some room, bro.” He tested his luck, elbowing Ezekiel to the side. He filled the space, pulling Lena into a tight hug before his brother could retaliate.
“Are you really using me as a shield right now?” She complained, arms loosely hanging at her sides.
“Yes. Now, hug me back.” Angel would hold onto her until she did what he wanted. She knew that for a fact, so she brought her arms up to wrap around his midsection. “It’s good to see you.” He mumbled into her hair. “You too.” And she meant it, squeezing him back before letting go.
“Ooh. What’s this?” He cajoled when his eyes caught sight of the box.
“Cake.” Ezekiel answered for him dryly.
Angel snorted, rolling his eyes. “Obviously, Boy Scout. What kind is it, Lena?” She glanced over her shoulder at it, to be sure. “It’s vanilla cake with buttercream icing.”
“Vanilla? Aww, man. Where’s the chocolate? You know that’s my favorite.” EZ cut his brother’s complaining short. “You don’t like it, don’t eat it.”
“Shut up.” Two words from Angel was all it took for the two of them to start bickering. Angel grabbed for his brother’s thick neck, trying and failing to pull him into a chokehold. Ezekiel got the upper hand, and then the two of them were grappling, kicking up red dust in the process while they talked shit to each other. Lena sighed and stepped out of their way. “I see nothing’s changed.”
The sound of their scuffle gathered the attention of the other Mayans. Coco, who Lena thought she recognized as Angel’s friend, was among them. The shortest man of the group headed the bunch, kissing his teeth when he saw the fuss was just Angel and Ezekiel. Again.
“Break it up!”
Lena flinched, and she wasn’t even doing anything wrong! The brothers broke apart immediately, then sat down in the dirt, out of breath and wearing sheepish expressions. They were children. Lena refrained from the “If Marisol were here...” speech she so desperately wanted to give, crossing her arms across her chest.
“Hi, querida. You must be Lena.” The man introduced himself as Bishop, taking her hand to kiss.
“Oh, yes. Hi.” She squeaked out, suddenly shy. Ezekiel stood, grabbing hold of her waist, and took over the introductions. “Guys, Lena. Lena, this is...” He went down the line one by one, and she smiled politely and nodded along. She was flattered that they already seemed to be familiar with her. Ezekiel had to run around talking about her all day. The thought made her heart ache.
Bishop directed the guys to help her with the rest of the stuff. Tranq balanced a cake in each hand, Coco taking the bag with the cake cutters and plastic forks. Angel was pleased to learn that one of them had chocolate-flavored icing with yellow cake on the inside, just the way he liked it.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Bishop told her with a smile, patting her hand one final time. “Nice to meet you too.” She called after him while Ezekiel muttered something under his breath in a grumpy tone.
Lena got to know their guys and their families. She learned she had met Coco before, and she got to meet his teenage daughter, Letty. She was sweet in an adorable, hissing cat sort of way. Lena teased Ezekiel about Letty having a little crush on him, but he denied it. Swore Letty just appreciated him for helping her out with something. He wouldn’t elaborate on what the something was.
“I get it now.” Lena told him when they found themselves alone by the abandoned fire pit. She sat on the wooden bench next to him, halfway into his lap, a warm flannel blanket on top of them. He watched her closely. “You do?”
“Yeah. You have a place here. Community. Family. It’s nice.” They had played a card game earlier. The guys traded friendly insults across the table, but it was all out of love. She felt it.
“Mhm.” He looked down and cleared his throat. “Does that change anything? For you?” Lena considered it, drowning in the hopefulness in his hazel eyes. How could she tell him no? Say goodbye forever to those eyes?
“I don’t know. I mean, I’m not sure what I was expecting. Everyone’s so nice. Well, except Angel, but I already knew that.” Ezekiel smirked. “Yeah, he was born an ass.” He brought the cold beer bottle to his lips to sip, and then he got quiet.
“Do you think you’d like to come to another?”
Lena nodded. “Yeah, I think I would.”

What did you think of episode 3?? From a child development perspective at least?
I’ll start with a couple things I would like to add about Episode 2:
WE FINALLY SAW THE BABY RUN!  HIS GROSS MOTOR DEVELOPMENT IS IMPROVING!  YAY!!!
I s2g if I see one more stupid-ass post about Baby Yoda being “canceled” or “committing genocide” HOW THE FUCK IS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THEY AREN’T FOOD IF NO ONE IS TEACHING HIM THAT?  HAVE YOU MET A TODDLER, EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD IS NEW TO THEM AND THEY ARE EXPERIMENTING AND EXPLORING AND IF THEY DON’T HAVE ADULT GUIDANCE YOU CAN’T EXPECT THEM TO START LEARNING ADVANCED CONCEPTS INDEPENDENTLY AT THAT AGE.  If it smells and/or looks like food to him (which is probably does) he’s gonna think it’s food and eat it until he is taught differently!  Also the episode CLEARLY states the eggs are unfertilized, so not a baby at all yet, and that the species is not endangered, that frog lady just personally is having her last batch of eggs.  Pay attention before you start having stupid opinions. /rant
Well to build on that - Baby is learning and we see it in this episode.  Din tells him “I will get you food” when he sees Baby is hungry and Baby does successfully wait until he gets food!  We also see him use a spoon, which is fantastic because he can then practice those fine motor manipulative skills, even if he couldn’t quite figure out how to use them to get that octopus off his face!  And his self-preservation/problem solving skills come back with him sealing his pod to protect himself.  Like I’ve stated before, to me that seems like a learned behavior, since we don’t see it in Season 1.  There’s clearly a time skip between Season 1 and Season 2* so to me that implies Din has been teaching him to do that to protect himself.  He also seemed to have some awareness of/reaction of fear to what the Quarren meant by “we’re gonna kill your pet” so he is definitely comprehending more, including things that no child should be having to experience, unfortunately.
It’s subtle and a little up-to-interpretation, but the way Baby was looking between Din and the dehelmed Bo-Katan made me think he’s trying to process this, because his Dad DEFINITELY does not do this, who the fuck is this and why the hell is she taking her helmet off???  IIRC I think he looked funny at Cobb too when the helmet came off but I haven’t rewatched Episode 1 yet so I’m not 100% sure.  It’s another mark of his attachment to Din; what Din does is Normal and Right and these other Mandalorians are Doing It Wrong to his mind.
And ofc Baby does actually learn “these are not food” when he sees the eggs hatch.  I think Frog Lady had figured out what was going on with the eggs and it seems she and Frog Husband maybe even actually took the time to show him the tadpole and teach him not to eat it?  Since that is definitely a food-sized item to him by the end of the episode.  He is so excited to have a playdate when Din picks him up!  So many people want to hurt him and Din has to keep him close and out of sight so much, it’s wonderful he got a chance to have some healthy social interaction.  He clearly enjoyed himself since he didn’t want to leave.
And ofc he continues to have his dad as a “safe harbor” to use while he experiences the world, and also seems to regard the ship as a safe place.  In Episode 2 he was crying and scared a lot while the spiders were around, but he recognizes that on the ship with Dad, he is safe, seeming more curious than frightened of the sea creature at the end of the episode.  He even laughs when Din kills it!  No matter how dangerous things get, he still knows that he’s safe with his daddy, and that sense of security is SO important for a child’s mental well-being.
As for Din, Dad Points gained for actually talking to the kid about things (telling him he’ll get food, trying to tell him not to eat the eggs although he really should’ve been more explicit with a little kid) and for being so Soft it melted my heart when he was checking on the baby after his kraken encounter.  Minor Dad Points lost for just yanking the poor kid away from his new frog friend (you have to transition little kids, no wonder poor Baby was fighting so hard to not leave!).  MAJOR Dad Points lost for bringing the kid close to the big-ass hole in the ship when those Quarrens were acting sketchy as fuck about insisting he let the kid see.  Seriously Din what were you thinking??
*I’m actually kind of sad we didn’t see The Shopping Trip, an episode where Din does nothing but bargain shop for a new pod.  (That will probably be a Baby Yoda POV Interlude tbh, since I set up Baby Hating Pods Now and will have to realign his Feelings On Pods to align with the new season.)  And more seriously, where did he get that thigh plate??  Did he have to forge it himself (since it’s kind of implied his Mandalorian search has been unsuccessful so far)?  Did he just find a raided covert and retrieved it from a fallen brother?  That’s depressing... or did he just make a pit stop to see the Armorer?

Anyone who got up and at em’ on the first day of vacation had something to prove, and you hated them. You had nothing to prove, so you kept your ass in your room and utilized the “to cabin” service. You don’t know if it was the sound of the waves from the balcony, the lull of the ship as it pushed through the water, you being physically exhausted, or if it was your emotional exhaustion that did you in. Whatever it was, you slept until it was damn near dinner time. Even then, leaving your room was not an option.
So you called for a meal to be brought to you, snuggled into the covers, and watched the available tv channels. Not wanting to watch any movies, you decided on a channel that seemed to be a mix of the animal planet, discovery channel, and a survivalist’s dream. The program that was on was something about figuring out the difference between good food and bad food. Things like this you found interesting and always watched. It wasn’t that you planned on ever needing the information but why the hell wouldn’t you be prepared for a never possibility.
When the food arrived, you were well into another program about common dangers on Caribbean islands that tourists would never know. Once you accepted the three reusable food bags, you buried yourself right back into the bed and surrounded yourself with everything you’d requested. You bet whoever prepared it thought it was for at least three people, but nope it was all yours. Vacation was about overindulging, right?
A few hours later, your phone rang. Knowing your sister’s ringtone, you answered without looking at the ID.
“You know better than not to send a message to mom before you disappear, Lulu.”
“Disappear? Lali, I am on a huge ass ship. Where am I disappearing to?”
“You know what I mean. You know if she hasn’t heard from you, then that’s just as good as disappearing,” Atali countered.
Sighing, you rubbed your forehead. Your mother was a bit much sometimes.
 “I slept in.”
 “All day?”
 “All day,” you repeated.
 “Alone?”
Kissing your teeth, you rolled your eyes and leaned back on the headboard.
“Lali, you do know it’s me you’re talking to, right?”
Atali giggled. “It is a vacation; excuse me for thinking you’d live a little.”
“There is living a little and living recklessly,” you dryly responded.
“Recklessly? Lulu, you’re the one who is sleeping with--.”
You loudly cleared your throat, interrupting what you knew she was going to say. Atali was always good for bringing up everything you wanted to forget.
 “Jeez, Atali.”
 “Sorry, sorry.”
You put another piece of cake into your mouth and moaned, savoring the strawberry and the smoothness of the cheesecake. You bit your bottom lip, and for some reason, your mind ran to the stranger you still had yet to get the name of.
 “Met anyone on board?”
“Lali, I didn’t come here to meet anyone.”
“I know, but you still could have—in passing.”
You sighed and went over the details of his face. You really didn’t like men with that much facial hair, but it fit him well and easily made him look younger than he quite possibly was.
 “What’s his name?”
“I don’t know his name, and he doesn’t matter. I did meet a woman.”
“Woman? You’ve been gone a day and already experimenting?”
You smiled and shook your head. “Shut up. Listen, she’s really cool. Her stories are classic, and she does her makeup like a goddess. You would like her, Lali.”
“She’s an older woman, isn’t she?”
 “Yeah, so what?”
“You always attract these old-young souls.”
The two of you giggled together, but it went on for longer than just a few seconds. When you sighed out and leaned back against the headboard, you again thought of him.
 “What’s your first port?”
“Dominican Republic, then Turks & Caicos, the British Virgin Islands after that then Aruba and Jamaica.”
“Jeez, you’re living life,” Atali commented.
“You have no idea. You should see this ship. They went all out times two with it. It’s just absolute luxury everywhere. I said pick me a ship. I didn’t say give me the Cleopatra treatment.”
“You knew what you were getting into when you asked me to do it,” Atali replied. “By the way, isn’t BVI and Turks and Caicos pretty close to Bermuda?”
Taking a moment to think about it, you responded, “Yeah. So?”
 “So? Lulu, Bermuda,” Atali repeated.
When you didn’t speak immediately, she continued. “The Bermuda Triangle, dummy.”
Kissing your teeth, you rolled your eyes, “Oh god, you cannot be serious.”
“I am. Have you never heard that ships get lost and disappear in that area?”
“Lali, I’m sure there is a scientific explanation, and I am also sure that no one would charter a course near somewhere that they’d get lost, especially with hundreds of passengers,” you finished, confidant in your response.
The two of you talked for almost an hour before she was urging you to get out of your room and go to one of the clubs on the ship. You protested, but you knew she would not shut up about it, so you gave in though you had no interest in actually going. You spent the next hour going back and forth with your options. Most of you wanted to stay in bed or sit on the balcony and just get lost in the view, while the other knew that you’d only think of Javii if you did that.
Following a shower, you scanned your clothes. Once you found a cute dress, then applied a lite layer of makeup and did your hair, choosing to leave it down rather than putting it in a cute bun. Five or ten minutes later, you were standing in front of the entrance to one of the clubs—Jewel. The music from inside was lively, and you could imagine the number of young bodies pressing against each other, seeking a cheap thrill. Glancing from left to right, you decided to bite the bullet.
Tumblr media
As soon as you stepped inside, you didn’t feel like you were on a ship in the middle of the ocean. It felt like it was a well established nightclub on solid ground. Whoever the DJ was, they were doing their thing, and it was evident from the bodies that littered the floor. It looked like this was where the parents came when their kids were tucked away in bed cuddling Tiana and Jasmine close. You walked through the crowds and saw plenty of couples making out and sharing drinks. Never again would you think to sleep on a Disney cruise. You thought it would be a chill time, but damn this was like parents gone wild.
After a few minutes of walking around and scoping things out, you found a place at one of the three bars.
 “First Disney cruise?”
Snapping your head around, you looked at a smiling bartender with long hair that was piled on top of his head in a neat man bun.
 “That obvious?”
“Let me guess, you expected tame, princess sing-a-longs, virgin pina coladas, and plenty of mickey mouse.”
The look on your face must have given you away because he was laughing a few seconds after he said it. You snorted and shook your head as you rearranged your dress and recrossed your legs.
 “Fine, you got me.”
“It’s okay. I get how you’d think it was a tame little adventure. Why do you think we get so many reservations?”
“I thought it was for the kids,” you blurted out. It was his turn to laugh.
“Silly rabbit, while Disney is for kids, what happens after those kids lay their pretty little heads is a whole other story.”
Glancing around once more, you made a mental note never to make the mistake again. Disney cruises were probably as raunchy as Carnival or those geared toward singles. At that thought, you began to wonder how many swingers were on board, and if this was a swinger’s playground.
 “What can I get you?”
“Something strong so my innocent mind can adjust.”
The bartender chuckled to himself as he walked around, preparing your drink. You bopped to the music and looked around again. Now it made sense to you when the mom of two who was preggo with her third said these cruises always gave her just what she needed. You bet they did—three fucking kids. Your mind was blown.
When the bartender slid your drink to you, he smiled and slipped away to serve the others. That was when you turned back around to people watch. There was no way you were going to dance with any of them. after a few sips of your drink, you saw him across the way. He was sitting at one of the other bars watching the dancefloor as you were. His hat was gone, and it showed you that his hair was long. The lights were too dim to make out much else, but what you couldn’t make out, you quickly filled in from your other encounter.
Before you realized your glass was empty, your eyes met and lingered on each other for several long moments. The only reason you looked away was because of the passing people who got in the way. When you looked back, his eyes weren’t on yours anymore, they were looking lower, but it was unclear if he was looking at you or someone on the dancefloor. Shaking it off, you spun around and requested another drink.
As you waited, you scrolled through your phone and did your best to fight the urge to check his social media. Javii wasn’t huge on social media. He preferred to have his team handle his brand's social side, but he did have a secret one that not many knew about. There he posted things that interested him, showed his lifestyle and his passions. It was also where he posted his “thirst traps.” You knew that if you went on, you’d find one or two, and you knew the caption was going to be code for you. You doubted you were mentally prepared enough for that psychological minefield.
“What can I get you, sir?”
 “Another beer, please.”
Tumblr media
The deep voice beside you had your finger pausing before you tapped the circle with Javii’s picture that indicated he’d made a new story. When you looked next to you there, he was again. The dim and colored lights in the room gave you a new appreciation of his eyes. It was at this moment you knew he got a lot of attention from women. With eyes like those, how could he not? He looked at you and smiled, and that sold it for you. His teeth were perfect, and though his smile made the wrinkles at the sides of his eyes more prominent, it also made his face light up. He looked like a kind man--a gentle one perhaps.
“Either you’re following me around, or we’d call this fate.”
You couldn’t help but smile. The cocky on him was so strong. It was a familiar cocky.
“Or you’re following me around. You’re the one who bumped into me twice,” you countered.
“Eh, I was the one doing the catching, so it’s more feasible that you’re following me.”
He wore a soft grin, one that you mirrored.
“Maybe if you weren’t like a brick wall, you wouldn’t have to catch me.”
“I’m not complaining,” he responded. You stared at him and quickly got his meaning. Again, you couldn’t help but smile. Not only was he cocky, but he was charming, you thought.
You finished your drink with one raise of your hand. When you lowered your glass, you watched as he raked his fingers through his hair, bringing it full out of his face. It was then you recognized him.
 “Oh my god.”
 “What?”
“Now I know where I’ve seen you from.”
He looked confused. “Now? You didn’t know this whole time?”
“No. You looked familiar, but I couldn’t place you.”
The look on his face was a lite one. He softly scoffed and raised his bottle to his head, and took a few gulps of his beer. When he lowered it, he spoke again.
“That’s refreshing. I’m not used to people not recognizing me.”
“That must suck. I couldn’t imagine living my life under suck a microscope,” you said without thinking. When you realized what you’d said, you glanced at him and tried to backtrack.
 “Uh—what I mean is--.”
He smiled and shook his head. “It’s okay. I know what you mean. I’m Chris,” he replied, holding out his hand to you. When you touched his hand, you were surprised by how soft they were. He’d never used them for manual labor a day in his life, you thought.
 “Ajali,” you responded.
“Aja—li, he slowly repeated, trying to mirror how you said it.
 “Yes.”
“Wow, that’s a beautiful name, very unique,” Chris noted.
 “Thank you.”
“What do your friends call you, Aja?”
You looked at him after raising your hand to the bartender, signaling you’d like another.
 “Why? Are we friends?”
Chris smiled and dipped his head down, making his hair fall into his face. He looked good with long hair and this grizzly beard combo. Again, he raked his fingers through his hair before he looked at you.
“We can be. We can be good friends if you like.”
Searching his eyes, you tried to find evidence in there to match the flirtatious tone of his voice.
“What if my husband isn’t into that?”
Chris smiled and turned his body to you. “You don’t have a husband. From the first time we bumped into each other, I noticed you’re not wearing a wedding ring, nor do you have any tan lines to signify you’re hiding one.”
Raising your eyebrow, you allowed his words to sink in. “I could have--,” you began.
“—Kids? Nah, you were alone the first time outside and again on the deck when I passed you and the night in the dining room and even at the show.”
 He’d been watching you.
“No, I’m not stalking you, I promise,” Chris quickly spoke up. “Plus, even if you had kids, it wouldn’t matter. I like kids—they like me.”
The two of you sat in silence for a few moments. When you got your drink, you took a long sip.
“So you’re alone here on this family Disney cruise. That alone deserves a question,” Chris continued.
“It does. You’re also alone on this same family Disney cruise,” you countered. Chris nodded and took another sip of his beer before he leaned closer to you.
“I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours,” he whispered.
There was no way you were going to divulge personal information to a stranger, no matter if he were Captain America. You spun to face him, then uncrossed your legs to recross them. His eyes dropped to your thighs, and that told you what you needed to know. He was on this cruise for hookups. Scoffing, you finished your drink.
“Your eyes just told me yours.” You slipped off the barstool and stood before him, leaning in just a little. “I hear Disney cruises are the place to be for after dark entanglements, and you’re in the right place. Have a good night.”
You walked away, not giving him a chance to respond. Instead of moving to another bar, you decided to leave. You’d heard plenty of rumors and stories of Chris Evans and his booty calls, and you were not impressed. He was clearly here for easy, strings free sex. You’d heard more than you needed to about how he met his hook up buddies and just not was textbook. You were not here to be another notch in his bedpost.
  -The Next Day-
-The Dominican Republic, 11:10 am
Tumblr media
As you walked through the ship, everyone was abuzz with excitement for the first port. You were also excited but not to disembark like everyone else. You’d been to the Dominican Republic plenty of times and had no intention of going out today. You had a plan, and it was to soak up the quiet and empty ship. You wanted to get a spa treatment, a massage, and soak in the hot tub or the steam room and allow the essential oils to work their magic on the tension coursing through your body.
“Attention passengers, we are officially docked. I’d like to be the first to welcome you to the beautiful Dominican Republic. As you disembark, a reminder that we will be leaving port promptly at ten o'clock. Please be on time, ladies and gentlemen, and enjoy your days.”
While everyone was walking in one direction, you were walking in the opposite. Everyone was decked out in their beachwear and sunscreen, and you could tell these kids planned on swimming every inch of that beach. The ride on the elevator was a quick one because you were going lower than everyone else. The spa was on the first level below water. The pamphlet advertised it as being one with the sea thanks to the unmatched view of the ocean and life under the sea. You were excited.
Once you got to the spa entrance, you smiled, seeing that it was completely empty.
“Welcome to Aqua Spa. My name is Vikki.”
“Hi. Am I the only one?”
“You are the first here. Between you and me, I don’t expect many guests being the first port and all,” the blond wearing a sea blue uniform said.
 “Excellent.”
 “Have you reserved?”
 “Yes, Ajali Rambaue.”
You watched her scan the computer screen before her. It didn’t take her long to smile again.
“Ms. Rambaue, welcome. I see you’ve booked the clearing treatment, a gold facial followed by the milk and rose oil bath,” Nikki listed.
Just her listing off your treats had you even more excited. Nodding, you confirmed. She returned your smile and ushered you through the spa. You could already see the blue hue from the portholes, and it bathed the entire spa in the same blue. It felt as if you were gliding underwater, completely immersed with the other creatures.
“Right this way.” You followed her into the room and gasped. The entire room was completely blue, and the sight before you through the clear window was breathtaking.
“Incredible, isn’t it? I guess you can see why they named her Enchantment.”
Maybe Lali’s splurge wasn’t so bad, you thought.
“So, the clearing treatment is an intricate one. You can change behind this screen as I prepare the room for you and your therapist,” Nikki explained.
You stepped behind the glass screen that immediately frosted once you were behind it, then began undressing and listened to her explain the treatment.
“Not only is it an incredible treatment, but it stretches to about three hours from start to finish. World-renowned masseuses and acupuncturist Jadenna Sole designed it. He aimed for it to restore the body’s balance. It does this through a mixture of Eastern and European techniques.”
When you stepped out, you were wrapped in the towel and sighed, seeing the newly lit candles that warmed the room. If you were doing a couple’s massage, this would have been the perfect atmosphere.
“It begins with a full-body exfoliation with sea salt and Indian Kama oil. After your therapist will perform a lymph system massage, and that will prep the body for your Swedish massage. After that, then your body will be wrapped in neem black clay, and you’ll sit and allow it to seep into your pores. Then you’ll rinse and sit in your milk and rose oil bath to then rinse again, and the finishing touch would be an intricate blend of oils and herbs rubbed into your skin that will help your chakras realign,” Nikki finished.
You were impressed as hell. You’d never expect a treatment like this on a cruise. It was more something for Manhattan among the rich. As you got comfortable on the table, you could hardly contain your excitement. When your massage therapist arrived and introduced herself as Marta, you prepared yourself to be shot into space. Massages were your thing. Lali joked that massages were your love language.
When Marta began the exfoliation process, it was relaxing enough for you to nearly fall asleep. You hadn’t realized how tense you were these last few days. You blamed Javii. It was all his fault. After twenty or so minutes, Marta rinsed you then really got started with the massage, all the while putting her back into it. She was a lot stronger than she looked. The pressure was perfect, and the scents from the oils were sublime. In no time, you were drifting from the ground into the sky.
After an hour, your mind was completely blank, and the knot between your shoulder blades was nearly gone. Marta made a few comments on how tense your muscles were and gave pointers on how to prevent locked muscles. You listened as she spoke and tried to retain the information, but you were too distracted with how relaxed you felt. By the time two hours had passed, your muscles were putty, and Marta was now on your gold facial.
This wasn’t the first time you’d gotten one. You and Lali often got them together as part of your sisters day. They were good for your complexion and elasticity. Your mother often stressed that collagen loved you when you were young but liked to play hide and seek the older you got and that you should cherish it and do all you could to maintain your healthy skin. You and Lali listened. After Marta finished applying the mask, you laid back and listened to the sounds of the classical music playing and drifted off to sleep.
When you awoke, it was time to wipe the concoction off and dip into your milk and rose oil bath. The warmth of the mixture had you moaning. There was something so luxurious about lounging in milk like you were an Egyptian queen that had you feeling like a boss. The mask that was applied to your hair was slowly hardening, so you fought the urge to dip your head back. Instead, you leaned back onto the cushions and sighed again.
Tumblr media
The silence in the room was just what you needed. Any stress you’d been feeling was a distant memory now. This was just what you needed, you thought.
“Who knew milk and rose oil could be so relaxing.”
Your eyes snapped open as you looked from side to side, trying to see if someone was beside you. The tub pods were empty, and from what you could see, you were alone.
“I’m glad I took Nikki’s recommendation for this over the peppermint soak,” the voice spoke again. You recognized it. Spinning around, you saw a bare back behind yours. He was close enough to touch.
Chris turned around to face you. His face was painted with a mask, only keeping his eyes and lips visible. You quickly forgot your state of undress, but you somehow knew of his. Your eyes dipped down to his bare shoulders and the hair that laid across his chest. You saw a peek of two and a possible third tattoo, and your curiosity piqued.
“Fancy seeing you here, Ajali,” Chris said as his eyes dropped lower. You looked lower on yourself to see your breasts almost out of the milk enough for him to see some nipple. Quickly you sunk down and turned back around, facing your back to him.
 “What’re you doing here?”
“Same as you.” You sighed and hugged your legs to your body.
“Shouldn’t they have men in a separate room or something?”
“I’ve seen a naked woman before,” Chris informed with a scoff. You turned around from the tone of his voice.
“I bet you have. You’ve seen plenty naked women.”
Chris turned to face you with his brows knitted together as if he fully got your meaning.
Tumblr media
“Just what are you insinuating?”
 “It doesn’t matter.”
“It does. Are you suggesting that I came on this cruise to sleep with unassuming women?”
You shrugged and turned back around, keeping your back straight.
“Wow, that’s insulting. Where do you get off?”
You remained quiet. He must have taken your silence as more judgment because he spoke again.
“I didn’t come on this cruise to snake myself into someone’s bed. I came because I needed a change of pace, some breathing room. Hollywood gets confining, and the more confining it gets, the more I feel like I’m—suffocating.”
Slowly you turned to look at him. His back was turned so you trailed your eyes over the exposed skin of his back and saw peeks of more tattoos. The man was getting sexier with each passing minute. His shoulders were broad and looked incredibly strong. The low light in the room didn’t help you see anything else, but you could more than imagine everything else.
“So, the confines of a ship wouldn’t feel suffocating?”
Chris turned to look at you.
“There is Hollywood confinement and this. This is not confinement. I have freedom here; I’m not watched like a hawk. Yeah, someone will recognize me here or there, but they are so respectful. For the most part, it is always quick. Plus, I don’t mind talking to the kids.”
This was the second time he brought up kids, you thought.
“Plus, now I’ve met someone who seems to have no problem telling me I’m a whore.”
Immediately you snorted loudly then laughed. “I never called you that.”
“Hinted at it is just the same as saying the words,” Chris accused.
You smiled and sighed, and your eyes lingered on his.
“It’s refreshing again. A lot of women will say what they think I want to hear or be how they think I want them to be.
 “Not me.”
 “Not you.”
It was said in unison. Once both of you realized what you’d said, you laughed together.
“It must be something having women fawn all over you.”
Chris shrugged, and again your eyes fell to his shoulders, and that is where they remained.
“Something is the word. It gets old, though—real quick.”
When your eyes met again, he held your gaze. “I’m sure men fawn all over you too.”
You took a deep breath and sighed out. “I’m sure they don’t.”
Chris snorted and gave you a “yeah right” look.
“I’m sure you’re full of shit. You’re a beautiful woman.” His eyes dropped below your face again, but they quickly came back up.
You turned your back to him again and stared into the milk and oil concoction. He wasn’t wrong, though he wasn’t right either. Men didn’t fawn over you. Yeah, you got attention from men a lot but to go as far as saying they fawned over you was a stretch. You didn’t notice any man besides Javii for the last three years.
“This is supposed to be a relaxing spa day for me. Maybe we should cut the talking out and just enjoy the rest of it,” you suggested, a little salty he’d reminded you of what you’d come to forget.
 “Sure thing,” Chris softly answered.
The two of you remained in your separate bath pods without speaking one more word. However, you were aware of his body and every move he made. His body gave off this energy that felt like your body reached out for. So instead of fully relaxing, you’d spent the time fighting the sway of your body or the urge to slink closer.
An hour later, you were in your clothes again and feeling ten times better than when you’d walked in. You thanked the staff and gave a generous tip, then left. When you got into the elevator, you leaned on the wall and sighed. As the doors closed, a hand stretched out, preventing it from closing. Chris then stepped onto the elevator with that stupid grin.
“We’ve got to stop meeting like this,” he joked as he pressed the six that was already lit up.
 “Is six your floor too?”
“Maybe.” He nodded and leaned on the wall beside you.
The two of you rode the elevator and looked outside the glass enclosure to the ship and even the ocean outside.
“They did a fantastic job with the ship. Even though you’re not on an island right now, you feel like it’s still a tropical vacation.”
 You nodded, agreeing with him.
“Do you come on Disney cruises often?”
You shook your head. “No. This is a first.”
Chris lit up and smiled widely. “Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve met a first-timer.”
 “I take it you’re not.”
“Nope, veteran. I come on a cruise at least once a year and go to Disneyworld and land twice a year,” Chris excitedly bragged.
“Oh, a little boy trapped in a grown man’s body,” you teased.
Chris chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Eh, nothing wrong with being a little boy.”
“Only if you aren’t that way because you refuse to grow up,” you responded. Chris looked at you and kept his eyes there. The ding of the elevator brought your attention back to the dial.
 “Six.”
You walked out the door, then turned left and proceeded to your room, wondering the whole way if that was a bitch thing to say. You had to learn to censor, you thought as you scanned your wrist and stepped into your room. Peeping back, you saw Chris still walking to his room with his head dipped low as if he’d lost his best friend.

Vernon stepped out into the open, finding himself on the highest level of the Helicarrier—not the top floor, but the deck itself.
The wind was strong, pushed by the rotator blades keeping the carrier in the air, and he shivered on feeling the sudden chill descend upon him. He hesitated, resting his palm against the side of one of the structures containing the blades, and glanced around. The aircraft was massive, big enough that despite being right next to the Quinjet runway, he couldn’t see any of the city beneath.
When he finally spotted White Tiger, she was sitting near the edge, mask in hand. At first, he was apprehensive about her being spotted, but when he got close enough, he realized they were way to high for anyone on the ground to be able to make out her features.
New York was easily a couple thousand feet below them, the tallest buildings looking like toy figurines from the high vantage point. The harbor glittered a dark blue-green underneath them, catching the dying light of the sunshine like little stars contained in the water. It was a breathtaking sight, so beautiful that it washed away Vernon’s initial fear as easily as a wave clearing away dug letters on a sandy beach.
He glanced at Yeji, pressing his teeth against his lower lip. She had her back to him, shoulders tensed—of course she would have heard him approach. Her hair was still up in a ponytail, but swayed lightly with the breeze. Even as he stood behind her, she said nothing, remaining silent and stony as she stared down at the view below.
“It’s nice up here,” he murmured. “Unless you have a crippling fear of heights, that is.”
Silence.
Vernon sighed to himself, slowly taking a seat next to her on the sun-heated deck, and pulled off his mask. The air was cool against his sweat-soaked skin, but did nothing to set his heart at ease. That was the hard part, one he had to figure out himself.
“So, White Tiger, huh?” he asked, scrunching up his nose as he looked at her sideways. Her chin rested on her folded forearms, which were balanced against her knees, legs crossed at the ankles. It should have been a relaxed posture, but her muscles were too tense, standing out like steel cables on her arms and sides. “Do your powers have anything to do with that jade amulet you wear?”
She unfolded herself, unconsciously touching the amulet that hung from one side of her gray belt. It was a vibrant green color, looking fragile like glass, but despite her generally offensive style of fighting, there wasn’t a single scratch on it. “It was my father’s,” she answered dully. “And my grandfather’s before him. The amulet is a family heirloom that passed down to me when the rest of my family died, and with it, the powers it bestows upon the bearer.”
“Oh,” he said, a little surprised. He hadn’t expected her to speak, but she had opened up, despite the still guarded tone of her voice. He pulled his knees up to his chest and looked out at the view, feeling calmer than before, but also a lot more awkward. “Are you afraid of the water?”
She glanced over at him, a confused scowl on her face. “What?”
“The water,” he repeated, indicating the harbor with a tilt of his head. “Aren’t cats supposed to be scared of water or something?”
Her eyes narrowed, but not before he caught the glimmer of amusement in them. “I’m not a cat,” she said. “The amulet gives me the agility and tenacity of a white tiger, but not all its fears. Are you afraid of house lizards, spider boy?”
“Well, one in particular.” He half-smiled. “But he’s back to human now, so I guess not really.”
She gave him a small smile back, one that indicated she got the joke. It wasn’t a big gesture, but it made him feel a bit better—which was funny, since he was the one supposed to be comforting her. He recalled Luce’s words from their earlier conversation. There’s no harm in being decent.
“Look,” he started, reaching up to rub the side of his neck, “I’m sorry about what I said back there. You said you knew I didn’t like you guys, but that’s not true. It’s just—it’s a sudden change,” he mumbled. “To have a whole team of supers in the school, and so soon after the—incident, it just set me off.”
She said nothing, waiting for him to continue. He shook his head. “You probably don’t know what happened a few weeks ago, and what happened, it’s not your fault. Heck, it doesn’t even have anything to do with you.” He laughed weakly. “The incident that took place, it followed a regular pattern I already should have known. When superhero stuff and real life mix, nothing good comes out of it. I wasn’t prepared for you guys, and I took it badly. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”
Yeji hummed. For a few moments, they sat in silence, but it was a comfortable sort of silence. For Vernon, it felt good to get all of that off his chest. It was hard to admit to something because of his pride, but putting it out there made him feel a bit better. No one liked seeing their faults, but to him, it was better than hurting someone he didn’t really want to hurt. In a way, even the superheroes around him were innocent people who could become collateral damage.
“What incident?” she asked.
He glanced at her, a little confused. She stared back at him with her eyebrows arched, as if expecting him to say something. “Sorry, what?”
“I told you about my family, how I came to be in possession of my powers,” she said. “Your turn. What incident were you talking about?”
He bit the inside of his cheek, staring at her thoughtfully. “Do you know Harry Osborn?” he asked at length.
She nodded. “The Goblin—I mean, Norman Osborn’s son.” She gave him a curious look. “Wasn’t he at Midtown with you?”
“Yeah.” He looked away again, studying the lenses of his mask. Speaking about it was difficult, and he wasn’t too sure about instantly opening up about such a horrific incident to someone he had met two days ago, but his instinct told him he could trust White Tiger. Either way, there was no harm in talking about that day, at least not the general aspects of it. “And you probably also know about how Norman Osborn was taken down.”
She nodded again, slower this time, looking thoughtful. “Wasn’t there a bargaining chip of some kind involved?” she asked. “Wait, sorry. I meant a human hostage.”
“Yeah,” Vernon murmured. He hung his head, running his spandex-covered fingers over the cloth of his mask, swallowing hard against the sudden dryness in his throat, but it hurt to do that, like there was a thorn stuck in his flesh. “Long story short, Harry Osborn…well.”
Yeji glanced at him in surprised concern, and he looked away, avoiding her gaze. Now would come the pitying glance, the awkward condolences, the unsure silence. He had had enough of that in the past few weeks.
“I get it,” she said, to his immense surprise. When he looked back at her, her eyes were sad, but there was a firmness beneath them, like stable ground at the bottom of the river. Even if she didn’t quite know all the details, they both spoke the language of loss, and it didn’t need words to be understood.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he said.
“I won’t.” She turned her face away, towards the sky, and he followed suit. The silence this time was more than comfortable, it was comforting. “No more details?”
Despite himself, he smiled. “Not yet,” he replied. “You have to get past level twenty first.”
She snorted a laugh. “I don’t really play video games,” she answered. “It’s a little difficult to fit in when you live in the same quarters as a couple of teenage boys, but I can’t do anything about it.”
“Really? You can drop by after school sometimes and I’ll show you.” He grinned, then grimaced. “Or maybe Aunt May can. I’m not the best at them, she kicks my butt on Night game night every time.”
“She sounds amazing already. I can’t wait to meet her,” Yeji said, smiling. “And while we’re on the subject of family—argh, I’m totally going to sound like Agent Fox, but here’s the thing.” She shifted her weight, sitting with her legs crisscrossed. “I know it’s hard to deal with loss, and that it’s different for everybody, but protectors feel guilt on a different level than everybody else—and you can’t carry that kind of weight around with you.”
Vernon picked at a small cut on the leg of his costume. “Agent Fox,” he repeated. “You too, huh?”
Yeji winced. “Therapists aren’t really equipped to deal with our kind of experiences,” she said. “I mean, what do you say to someone who had to physically fight their best friend’s dad because he turned into a genetically enhanced green monster?”
He laughed.
“Agent Fox might not be your best bet, but there are other things you can try,” she continued. “I know you probably don’t want some kind of preachy advice, but for me, being White Tiger helped.” She ran her fingers along the grooves of her amulet again, as if deriving comfort through its touch. “Doing something, even little things that just keep your mind off the past, it helps.”
He thought back to Luce’s words. “Like getting a job?”
Yeji frowned. “I guess,” she said. “If it doesn’t take over your time as Spider-Man, that is.”
“That’s twice in a day someone’s advised me to get a job,” he said. “Maybe I really should go ahead and get one.”
“Maybe you should,” she agreed. “But I have a feeling most normal jobs won’t interest you. If you’re going to work, might as well work on something you’ll enjoy.”
“Don’t worry,” he said, the gears of his brain already having been kicked into action. “I think I already have something in mind.”
Tumblr media
The last time Vernon had met Dr. Curt Connors, it had been as Spider-Man.
It was not an experience he had particularly enjoyed, since it had been one of his bigger fights had had left him with a hairline fracture and a few bruised ribs, holed up in his room for a week to nurse himself. Gym had been worse than usual that Tuesday.
As he pushed through the revolving doors at the entrance of Roxxon Industries, he was already beginning to regret his decision a little bit. Sure, there was no way that Dr. Connors could know his secret alter ego, but the knowledge didn’t help his nervousness one bit.
Plus, with Oscorp pretty much in ruins, the research scientist had shifted his work to a different corporation, and Vernon didn’t know his way around the new building at all. It was a tiny thing to be so worried about, especially for a person who had faced Doc Ock at the age of sixteen, but even the little things seemed big now that he was out job hunting.
Vernon clutched his father’s briefcase tighter, taking his visitor’s pass from the front desk and heading up the escalator to the designated room. Dr. Connors had met Vernon Parker exactly once before, when the latter had shown up at his old laboratory asking about his father, Richard Parker, Connors’s former colleague.
Back then, their conversation had been cut short by a Spidey emergency, and after that the only time he’d been able to see the doctor was while battling him as the Lizard. Vernon had been too afraid to go back afterwards, scared of the decades old formula Connors had developed which turned him into the monster, and what he might discover about his father’s work.
But Dr. Connors had made him a proposal that the boy remembered three months later—that Vernon was always welcome to come work at his lab. Now, the idea of being a simple research assistant didn’t sound very great, especially when the project was so controversial that its funding had been hanging by a thread even at Oscorp, where they weren’t exactly known for their safe experiments. However, biophysics had always been fascinating to him, not to mention the fact that it was his father’s legacy.
He guessed it was about time he went back to claim it.
Vernon stood in front of the door awkwardly, unsure what he was going to say. But he lifted his hand, and he knocked.
“Come in,” came the doctor’s voice from behind the door, and Vernon took a deep breath before pushing the door open and stepping inside.
The room was bigger than he had expected it to be. It definitely wasn’t just an office, with multiple tables and various small instruments and charts held down by random objects acting as paper weights spread across them. Tall shelves lined the wall behind the main desk and the one opposite it, stuffed with old and new volumes. The doctor’s table itself was pushed into a corner to make way for everything else, but despite the packed space, everything was organized. It was a pattern Vernon knew from his own room: order in chaos.
Dr. Connors was standing behind his desk, reading through a paper on a clipboard in his hand. He looked up as Vernon entered, and a range of emotions flashed through his eyes when he saw him—first confusion, then recognition, then fear, then guilt. Finally, the doctor smiled, straightening as he placed the board back on his table.
“Vernon,” he said, and Vernon felt a thrill upon seeing that he remembered his name. “A face I haven’t seen in a long time.”
“Yeah, sorry about that.” Vernon tried to press his lips into a smile, but it probably looked more like a grimace. “I would have come by earlier, but what with midterms and everything happening in the city…” He hesitated. “I was just a little afraid, I guess.”
“I understand,” Dr. Connors said, and it wasn’t just an empty phrase, like he actually understood Vernon’s fear of facing his father’s past. But then, maybe he did. “I would have liked to see you again after our conversation was cut short, but perhaps a few months’ lapse in between was necessary.”
Vernon thought back to the Lizard incident a couple of months ago, when Dr. Connors had injected himself with an underdeveloped serum, turning himself into a giant lizard. “I read your recent article on the lizard formula,” he said slowly.
The doctor’s hand froze on the table for a moment, but relaxed just as quickly. He looked up at Vernon with a gentle sort of intelligence in his eyes, a look so different from the Lizard’s that he had trouble believing they could be the same person. “Did you, now?” he asked. “And what did you think of it?”
“Genius,” he breathed, and Dr. Connors’s eyes lit up even more. “I looked through my dad’s old papers, and cross-checked the changes with your research.” He opened his mouth and closed it again. Better get this over with quickly. “I know this must seem abrupt, but I wanted to ask you something.”
“Go on.” Dr. Connors inclined his head, gesturing at a seat with his good arm. The other one ended up to just above the elbow—a sight that reminded Vernon that it was the doctor himself who had been the first human trial for his cross-species grafting formula.
“The last time we met, you asked me to come work with you in your lab,” Vernon spoke slowly, hesitating between words. “And when I read your paper, I saw that you would continue to research further on the gene splicing and the, uh, the blood-brain barrier and—” He cut himself off, realizing that he had begun to ramble. “I was wondering, after last time, if you could—”
“Take you on in my lab for the research?” Dr. Connors completed his question for him, positively beaming. “Of course! Your father was a genius, and you follow in his stead. It would be a great advantage to have you on the team.” His smile faltered a little. “And then, even after all these years, I owe him my life and its work,” he added in a lower voice. “I’d be glad to have you.”
“Really?” Vernon looked at him with rounded eyes, clutching the case tightly enough that the skin of his knuckles paled. “I—wow. Thanks, Dr. Connors.”
Dr. Connors shook his head. “There will always be a place for Richard Parker’s son at my lab,” he said. “If you’re free, I could show you around the lab now, just so you get the feel of the place. Unless, of course, you’re busy right now, in which case you could swing by later.”
Vernon laughed, relieved and gratified and ridiculously happy. “I have all the time in the world.”
“Great,” Dr. Connors said. “When can you start?”

Part 16 Part 18
Part 17
We got back to Liam's a couple of hours later. I felt exhausted by the time we got back. Finding the right shoes had been a nightmare. I have wide feet and struggled to find something I didn't feel like I was spilling out of.
In a surreal moment, I had found myself debating on whether I should get the Blahnik's or Louboutin's. The prices were unreal, and considering the most expensive shoes I had before those were my Dr Marten's Made in England 1460s, I was out of my depth.
This shop assistant in the shoe department was amazing. He said to go for the Louboutin's because "every woman should have at least one pair in her collection." He made me laugh and was helpful, so despite my misgivings on spending even more on the shoes than the dress, I got them.
The bag had been an easy purchase after that. I got a silver glitter Jimmie Choo clutch. It was half the shoes' price and felt like a bargain.
I hung my dress up, put my shoes and bag in Liam's dressing room and went downstairs to eat lunch with Liam.
"Thank you so much for today. I feel a bit better about the whole thing now that I know what I'm going to wear. One less thing to worry about," I said after we had eaten and packed up. I put my arms around Liam's neck and kissed him.
"You're welcome, Sweetheart. You looked so beautiful in that dress." He kissed me back. "Do you want me to get Ryan to organise an alteration?"
I scoffed, "No, he's probably got enough to do taking care of your shit." I winked. "I can do that tomorrow. I'll also get Jen to do my hair and makeup."
"Riza's wife?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, she does hair and makeup for weddings and formals, so she knows what she's doing."
"Tell her to bring Riza when she comes here, and I can meet them both."
"I'm getting ready here?"
"Yeah, I thought you would. Otherwise, you'll have to get from your place to here all dressed up. And you'll have Perrin with you."
He had a point. "Ok, so next week I'm staying at your place from Thursday until Sunday? Then going to David's and what? Will you stay at mine on Sunday night? Then you come back here on Monday?" Oh, this was complicated.
"Yeah," Liam said like it was no big deal. When you live half your life out of a suitcase, things like that aren't a big deal. Liam looked at his watch. "When do you have to leave?"
"I've got to be at Dave's in a few hours."
"That's just enough time."
"For what?" I asked.
The only warning I got was Liam's bloody twitchy lip. My eyes went wide, and he hoisted over his shoulder again. "For me to have my way with you."
He ran up the two flights of stairs to his bedroom with me giggling at his feat of strength and fitness. I was let down gently on my feet.
I expected Liam to rush me, but he didn't. He brushed my hair from my face as he looked at me with a gentle smile. He seemed so sweet and open that I couldn't help but smile back. I held his hand to my cheek, relishing its warmth, then kissed his palm.
Liam expelled a breath with a short laugh, and his smile grew larger. "I got you another present," he said. "I was going to give it to you on Thursday, but," he rubbed my earlobe, "I can't wait."
"You're very impatient."
Liam nodded. "Wait here." He went to his dressing room and returned with a small jewellery box. Real small. Ring sized small.
I took a step back. I felt cold, sick and my guts churned. Surely, he wasn't that stupid.
Liam looked at me, confused. "Lana, are you ok? You've gone white." I didn't look at him. All I could look at was that little black box. I shook my head.
Liam followed my gaze and must have finally realised why I was looking so sick because he chuckled and said, "it's not what it looks like, Lana." I looked at him, and his eyes twinkled in amusement.
I felt the colour return to my face and covered my face in my hands. "Thank God." I felt a little sheepish.
Still grinning, Liam pulled his hands away from my face and said, "one day, Sweetheart, I certainly hope it will be. Today, however, it's earrings." He opened the box, and inside were two perfect white pearls below a black onyx and diamond setting. They were beautiful. "I know you were joking when you said you needed matching earrings." He shrugged, "I couldn't help myself."
"You got these today? When?"
"I have a confession." Liam's smile was mischievous. "I didn't have to buy a shirt."
I shook my head at Liam, grinning, "you cheeky bastard." I got on my toes and kissed Liam on the cheek. "Thank-you. They are beautiful."
"Will you wear them now?" I nodded and started to take my earrings out. "Let me," Liam said.
Sweeping my hair away from my ear, Liam took my small gold hoops out and put his gift in my ears. He smiled a brilliant smile, revealing just a hint of his teeth. "Perfect," he said, leaning down to kiss me all too briefly. "Go look in the mirror, tell me what you think."
I looked in the mirror in the dressing room, and they were perfect. I played with the earrings. They had such a beautiful yet simple elegance to the design. I felt silly wearing them in my jeans and Joy Division t-shirt.
Going back to Liam, I hugged him again. "Thank-you." I looked into his eyes, so blue and open, and I felt my own tearing up. "You've made me feel special today."
I don't know why I cried. I just knew I felt a warmth in my body, my stomach quivered, and my heart felt like it was trying to escape my chest. I was confused by my feelings. They made me ache, they made me scared, but I also felt happy and safe.
Liam cupped my face with his hands. "Lana, you make me feel that way every day." Using his thumbs, he wiped my tears away.
My next words took us both by surprise. "Make love to me, please?" I didn't mean to say it. The words just fell out as I was swept up in the moment. But it was what I wanted. I wanted to feel love from him, have him hold me again like he had yesterday morning, have him break through my defences, help me tear them down. But more important than what I wanted was what I wanted to give. I wanted to hold him, kiss and caress him, show him how I felt about him.
Liam's face took on a series of changes, moving rapidly from one to another. First, his eyes widened, then he smiled, then his eyes hooded. Finally, he nodded and licked his lips. He leaned down to kiss me, and I closed my eyes. Tenderly, he kissed me, each kiss feathery and light. The ache between my legs was sudden and intense. I kissed him back, matching his mood.
I held Liams head while I got on my toes and kissed his neck. He let out a short groan as I trailed my kisses to his throat. He threw his head back, exposing his whole neck. His hand went to my head, holding me to him. I kissed under his jaw, and his stubble felt sharp on my lips and tongue. I moved down his throat, over his Adam's apple and into the shallow hollow at the base of his neck. Liam ran his fingers through my hair as I went.
I put my hands under his shirt and lifted it, pulling it off with Liam's help. His bare chest made my breath catch, and I reached out to touch him, pausing just short as I had the first night I met him. I smiled at the memory and looked at Liam as I let my fingers sink into his furry chest, his curly hair enveloping them as they did. For a moment, I just let myself feel his warmth through my fingers.
Sliding my arms around his waist, I kissed Liam's shoulder. I felt Liam's hands on my hips, but he let me kiss at his chest as I liked, not hindering me at all, not hurrying me, letting me take my time, allowing me to take control. I travelled across his chest with my hands, mouth and tongue, heat spreading throughout my body as I went. Liam's breath was shallow and rapid as I kissed him. I savoured his smell, texture and taste, hoping to hold onto this moment until I saw him again.
Wanting to feel Liam's skin against my own, I took my shirt and bra off. I embraced Liam as he slid his arms around me, his hands feeling their way up my back. I put a hand to his head and lead his lips to mine. I kissed him slowly, leisurely, enjoying his soft lips while I licked and sucked.
I brought my hips close to Liam's, and we both gasped as we touched.
"Lana," Liam pleaded, rolling his hips into mine, his movements slow and deliberate. "Please, Lana. I need you."
Kissing Liam again, I reached for his pants, undoing his belt. He grabbed for mine, and we undressed each other. Our kisses continued, neither of us wanting to break away. Liam kicked off his shoes and socks and stepped out of his pants. I tried to take mine off, but bloody skinny jeans and Doc's are not easy to kick off.
Liam chuckled when he saw my difficulties. My face warmed. He kissed me as he put his hands under my bottom and lifted me, carrying me the few steps to his bed and sat me on the edge. He got down on his knees and undid my laces, and took my boots and socks off. He pulled my pants and underwear off. To complete the replay of our first night, he held my ankles in his hands before he ran his fingers up my legs, making my skin break out in gooseflesh and my spine shiver.
Smiling at my response, Liam covered his body with mine, and I wrapped my legs around him. Slipping an arm under my waist, he lifted me off the bed and moved me up until my head lay on the pillows. Liam held his weight above me, his powerful arms out outstretched next to my head. He looked so beautiful above me, muscles taut, skin lightly tanned, his face sincere and genuine.
Liam let his body rest on mine, his arms sliding around my shoulders. He let some of his weight onto me, asking, "I'm not too heavy, am I?" I shook my head and nuzzled into his shoulder, sliding my hands under his arms to pull him closer.
Liam made a slight noise of discomfort and rearranged himself before holding me again. I moved my hips and felt myself effortlessly slide against him. A moan escaped my lips as I felt his sex rub against my folds and my point of pleasure. Flares of heat came with each passing, and my mouth sought him, needing his lips, his tongue like I needed air. He kissed me back, and I felt the same need from him, the same desire, the same hunger.
Moving his hips, Liam positioned himself to enter me. He lifted his head and looked at me, his eyes searching for confirmation. I nodded, and he watched my face as he slowly entered me, stretching me, filling me.
It felt like I was whole for the first time in years.
Holding himself still, Liam asked, "are you ok?". Not trusting my voice, I nodded. It didn't help, and the tears came anyway. Liam went to pull out, but I held him with my legs, locking my ankles together.
"Please, don't." My voice was a whisper. Putting a hand to his cheek, I kissed him, my lips firm and my tongue needy. He kissed me back a moment but then stopped and looked at me again.
"But you're crying." He said.
"I'm happy, you idiot," I said softly, smiling at him through my tears.
Liam let out a short laugh. He kissed me again and said, "me too, Lana." He held me tight against him.
We moved with each other, our bodies rocking slowly together. We sometimes kissed, we sometimes just closed our eyes and enjoyed the sensations. Mostly we looked at each other, small smiles on our lips.
"I'm close, Lana," Liam whispered to me.
I smiled at him and nodded. His gentle thrusts became harder now, and I looked into his eyes, watching his expressions change until he called my name, and I felt him release into me.
He let his head fall into the crook of my neck, his deep breaths tickling me. I stroked his hair and caressed his back. We stayed like that, holding each other. It seemed neither of us wanted this moment to end.
I felt Liam's whole weight fall on me as I heard soft snores start in my ear. I chuckled to myself, the poor guy was all tuckered out. I looked over at the bedside clock. I had a bit more time before having to leave, so I stayed holding him until his breaths where long and he had fallen deep into sleep.
I waited until the last possible second before I wriggled out from under Liam and went to have a quick shower. Liam had let me out from under him in his sleep and rolled over. I didn't want to wake him, so I showered upstairs instead of in his ensuite.
I dressed quietly, got my stuff together, went over to Liam, and kissed him on his forehead. He had hummed and tried to grab hold of me in his sleep, but I stepped away, and he relaxed back into sleep.
On the way out, I patted Cole and said goodbye. Cole, being a gentleman, walked me to the garage.
Perrin was happy to see me when I got to Dave's. He dawdled over to me and gave me some licks. It seemed like the kids had worn him out.
The kids weren't tired, though, and begged me to play on the trampoline with them. I rolled my eyes and said to Perrin, "I feel your pain."
Dave, the smart-arse, said to the kids, "I think your Aunty Lana had a big weekend, guys." Smirking, he continued, "she's probably had a lot of exercise."
"You're a dickhead." I said back to him.
The kids giggled their heads off, laughing that "Aunty Lany said a bad word!" I made my eyes go wide and smacked myself on the hand. They laughed and went to play, pulling Perrin along with him.
I said hi to Lucy, who was grinning like a crazy woman but trying hard not to. I laughed at her, blushing furiously. "Stop it," I told her. She just shook her head.
"Come on! Why didn't you tell us? Is he as nice in real life as he seems? Oh God, is he as hot? What's he like?" Lucy gushed.
"Oi," Dave said to her. "Ease up." Lucy just laughed and brushed him off.
"Yeah, he is as nice, really sweet. Funny, exciting and yes, very hot." We giggled.
"Awww," Lucy sighed. "Lana, I'm happy for you. I didn't even know you were dating again."
"Well, yeah, I only started a few months ago. Liam's the only one I had any real interest in."
"How'd you meet him?" Lucy asked. Dave nodded, also wanting to know.
I told them about the Will/Liam thing. They didn't seem to think it was as big a deal as I had thought, but I guess they weren't the ones who went through it. I told them a bit about what happened when we meet, how we had spent the last two weekends together. I left out all the gory details. I also told them about the plan for this week, the premiere, and asking Liam if he wanted to spend Easter Sunday with us.
Lucy squealed and jumped up and down. Dave rolled his eyes at her and agreed it would be good to meet him.
"You know Mum will be there, right?" Dave said.
"Yeah, I know." I scoffed. "Maybe Liam will be the guy to meet her expectations finally."
Dave laughed at that, "Yeah, well, he's got money, so she should be happy about that. He's not a CEO, though, so you still might be in trouble." He was probably right.
My phone rang then, and it was Liam. I must have had a massive smile on my face because Lucy made an "ooooh" noise at me. I hushed her and went outside.
"Hey," I said, my voice was already breathy.
"Hi, Sweetheart," Liam sounded a bit groggy.
"Did you just wake up?"
"Hmm, yes. Sorry. You should have woken me up. I didn't get to say goodbye." He sounded like he was pouting.
"Yeah, I know. But you just looked so sweet laying there, snoring like a chainsaw."
"I do not snore like a chainsaw." He paused, "do I?"
I laughed, "No. You do snore, but it's pretty soft."
He laughed. Then he asked, "are you at your brother's house?"
"Yeah."
"I will let you get back to it then. Call me later tonight?"
"Yeah, I will." I paused, building up the courage to say what I wanted to say, but Liam beat me to it.
"Thank you, Lana."
"For what?"
"For forgiving my bullshit and for pushing you. For letting me get close to you. For letting me be with you. For trying to fit into my world when I know it scares you. For being you. For everything."
For once, I didn't feel like I had to make a joke or change the subject. But I also didn't know what to say. "Thank-you." It was all I had.
"Call me tonight, Sweetheart?" Liam asked again.
I agreed, then hung up.
After dinner, Perrin and I went home. I didn't feel like staying later. The kids were disappointed, but I was tired. I knew it would be a big week, and I wanted to try to get a good night's sleep.
I called Riza on the way home, and we talked a bit about the weekend. She told me a bit about her work and her arsehole boss. I asked her if I could speak to Jen for a minute.
"Sure, but why?"
"Well," I said dramatically. "I'm going to a premiere on Thursday evening, and I need someone to do my hair and make-up."
"Jen, get over here!" Riza yelled, and her voice was so loud through my car speakers that Perrin barked.
"Christ, Riz."
She laughed and said, sorry. Before she handed me to Jen, she said, "Thanks Lana, she will be so happy."
"Why will I be happy?" Jen asked. I told her, and she was quiet a minute. "Really, Lana?"
"Yeah, who else would I get to do it?"
"Can I put it on Instagram? Like a picture of you two all ready?"
I knew she would ask that. She did it for most of her clients. "Yeah, but don't mention anything about it before then. Just after I'm ready, you can put a picture up. I don't know if Liam will want to be mentioned or have a picture, but I'm happy for you to ask him."
"Oh, Lana, thank you! This could boost my business."
"I know, that's why I'm ok with it. I mean, there's going to be photos out there of me anyway, so I hope it will help you get some more work."
Jen and I talked about what I was wearing and how I wanted my hair. I told her I had no idea, so she got all excited and said she knew exactly what to do. Before I hung up, I gave Jen the address and time and told her Liam asked if Riza could come because he wanted to meet her.
"Wow, Lana. You guys are serious, huh?"
"Yeah, Jen, I think we are." We hung up not long after that.
Later that night, I called Liam, and I told him I'd sorted Jen to come over and told Dave he would come for Easter.
He seemed pleased, and we talked a bit about Riza and Jen before I told Liam I was tired and wanted to go to sleep.
I was tired, but I couldn't sleep. My brain wouldn't shut off. I kept thinking about being at school tomorrow and seeing the parents. Then I started thinking about Thursday and what Myra and the others would think of me. What it would be like to do that walk down the red carpet. I know a lot of the press will just want photos of Liam, so I'll have to stand there looking like an idiot while he poses. But worse will be when I have to stand with him. I could just imagine pictures of us, Liam looking dashing and me looking like a deer in headlights.
I started Googling how to pose on the red carpeting even got out of bed and tried a few before feeling like a total dag and getting back into bed. I wanted to back out. I didn't want to do it. I couldn't believe I had said yes to it. But I remembered Liam's face when I said I would go, and I knew that's why I had said yes.
I thought about how sweet Liam had been to me all day, how beautiful he had made me feel,  how he had tried to make the whole thing easier, how he had kissed me and held me. How he had whispered my name as we made love.
I felt the heat between my legs grow. I tossed and turned a bit, trying to make it go away. I felt hot, so I took my pyjamas off. I tossed and turned some more. I tried to ignore it but I couldn't.
I went to my draw and got out my rabbit-style vibrator. I touched myself, and I was ready for it. I closed my eyes as I slipped it inside. I thought about Liam as I did. He was thicker than my slim vibrator but just as long. I positioned its ear against my clit and put it to the setting and speed I liked.
I held it there. I thought of Liam's gravelly voice in my ear and could almost feel his breath on my neck. I let my free hand wander over my body, remembering watching as Liam touched me. I thought of how he looked at me sometimes with a small smile, his eyes dancing with amusement as his lip twitched.
As I got closer to the edge, I thought about earlier that day, the way he held me, how gentle and tender he was. I remembered how it felt as I kissed his chest and his hairs tickled my nose. I remembered his smell, earthy and masculine, like the bush after it rained. I fell over the edge when I remembered how he had called my name as he orgasmed, my own rippling through me in waves as his voice rang in my ears.
Not long after that, I finally fell asleep.

Chapter Twenty-One
Pairing: Din Djarin x OFC (Aili Verdella) Warnings: cursing, talk of torture, blood, injury Word Count: 4.3k Also on AO3
Masterlist//Main Masterlist
Summary: They're stuck in a cantina, Kuiil isn't answering the comlink,  they don't know if Little Green is even safe and there's a Moff with a whole squadron of Troopers with their blasters pointing at them. How the hell are they going to make it out of this one?
Note: Sorry for posting so late, I lost two hours of working on this running around trying to get a Covid test (which I’m hoping I’m just over-reacting about my allergies)
Tumblr media
“Is there another way out?” Cara asked after finally getting tired of the standoff that they were stuck in. After the man had finished speaking he proceeded to just stand there. Waiting. Presumably for whichever troopers he had sent after the kid to get back either empty handed or with his prize.
Aili was stupidly holding onto a small amount of hope that Kuiil had dropped his comlink and was waiting on the Crest. She knew he wasn't though. But keeping that small bit of hope was the only thing stopping her from taking the risk of outright attacking the Imps holding them hostage. That and their lack of decent weapons. She could only do so much against an entire squadron of Storm Troopers and a team of Death Troopers under the command of a Moff.
“No, that’s it,” Karga said, pointing out the open window with his blaster.
Aili paused for half a second, tilting her head to the side and wondering how she could be so stupid to forget, before she tapped on Mando’s chest piece to get his attention. When he glanced down at her she pointed to the ground with her blaster. She hoped he got her meaning because it was technically his secret to tell if Karga didn’t already know about it.
His helmet cocked to the side before he looked over at where Karga was. “What about the sewers?”
“Sewers?” Karga questioned, wondering why Mando would want to know about the sewers of all things at the moment.
“The Mandalorians have a Covert down in the sewers. If we can get down there, they can help us escape,” Mando explained as quickly as he could. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t thought of it before now and he wasn’t going to dwell on the fact that it had taken Aili to remind him.
“Not only that but if we can get down there that means access to a ship if we can’t get to the Crest by foot,” Aili added. She was weighing all of their options now. If they got down to the Covert, she wasn’t sure she’d be able to leave any of the girls behind this time. Not with a Moff breathing down their necks.
In fact she knew that if they went down there, everyone would have to leave or fight. No matter what there would be losses, she just hoped it would be more troopers than Mandalorians. If anyone hated the Empire more than she did, it was Mandalorians.
From across the way, Cara nodded her head in agreement, “I like that plan, sewers and another ship are good.”
“Checking for access points,” Mando said, bringing up his arm to set his t-visor to scan the building they were stuck in. Logically there had to be an access point somewhere in a cantina but even Aili knew that Nevarro was weird. She had long since given up on trying to understand how anything was set up in town.
“What the hell are they even waiting for?” Cara questioned, checking back out the window once more to see if anyone had so much as moved a foot out of place. Not that she wanted them to attack now that they had an almost way out but she was surprised that they hadn’t taken them out yet.
Aili leaned around Mando, keeping out of his line of sight (not that it was hard to do since she was so much shorter than him) and watched as several troopers came back carrying parts of a weapon. “Oh fuck me,” she said, louder than she meant to as she turned back around.
“I’ll second that because they’re setting up an E-Web,” Cara said, letting the back of her head lightly hit the wall she was hiding behind. They were really screwed now if Mando couldn’t find a way into the sewers.
“It’s over,” Karga said bluntly.
Mando ignored them all as best as he could, still scanning the room for a way out. He barely stopped himself from releasing an audible sigh of relief when he finally found one. “I found a vent.”
“Let’s get the hell out of here,” Cara said, relief in her voice for the first time but it was still clouded by tension.
“I don’t want to be here when they get that thing put together,” Aili added.
Mando and Cara were quick to run to the back of the room, tossing aside the chairs that were covering the vent. Aili kept looking back at them before checking the progress on the E-Web set up. They were quickly running out of time. What storm troopers lacked in aiming, they apparently made up for in setting up guns.
“Not to rush you two but…” Aili trailed off,
“It’s assembled! How long is that going to take you?” Karga finished what Aili was saying.
“Blow it,” Cara said, stepping back to give Mando room.
“I’m out of charges,” Mando replied, wincing from behind his helmet knowing that wasn’t the answer anyone was going to want to hear. Least of all...
Aili spun around to glare at the back of Mando’s helmet. “What do you mean you’re out of charges?” She couldn’t believe he would even be stupid enough to walk into an obvious trap without every weapon he always had on him. She knew she didn’t bring much either but she wasn’t the one who was usually a walking armory.
Cara picked up the blaster rifle she had taken from the weapons locker, “Move out of the way!”
That was the only warning she gave Mando before she started shooting at the vent in an attempt to get it open. Aili winced at the sound knowing that they’d be able to hear it from outside.
“Your astute panic suggests that you understand your situation. I would prefer to avoid any further violence and encourage a moment of consideration,” the Moff spoke again as soon as Cara stopped shooting. Her attempt to kick the vent in was unsuccessful as it didn’t even move an inch.
“Members of my escort have completed assembly of an E-Web heavy repeating blaster. If you are unfamiliar with this weapon,” He paused for half a second before continuing, his tone somehow more smug than it already was. “I am sure that Republican Shock Trooper Carasynthia Dune of Alderaan will advise you that she has witnessed many of her ranks vaporized mid-descent facing the predecessor of this particular model.”
Cara turned at the sound of her full name, eyes narrowed as she wondered how this man that she had never met before knew exactly who she was.
“Maybe Aili Verdella, formerly AL-1284, Dragon Leader of the Krayt Dragon Program recalls using weapons of this sort on multiple planets against innumerable Rebels and Rebel sympathizers. The New Republic would be very interested in knowing your current location but I think you know where you really belong.”
“That’s not gonna happen any time soon.” AIli muttered to herself and although she would deny it if anyone asked, her heart was beating a little faster. From anger or fright, she wasn’t sure at the moment. She had expected Imps but she hadn’t expected a Moff. This was more than any of them had bargained for.
But now she was even more determined to keep Little Green out of the Empire's grasp. Nothing a Moff could want with him could be good and she'd rather die than let them have another child. He could bring up as much of her past as he wanted but if he thought that was going to shake her, he was sorely mistaken. He was just making her more pissed off.
“Or perhaps the decommissioned Mandalorian hunter, Din Djarin, has heard the songs of the Siege of Mandalore, when gunships fitted with similar ordnance laid waste to fields of Mandalorian recruits in The Night of a Thousand Tears.”
Mando had turned to stare out the window when he heard his name, a name that no one should know, spoken for the first time since he had taken the Creed. He was beginning to understand who they were up against and it was worse than he thought. He avoided looking towards where Aili was, unsure what he would see on her face. He missed the way the hard look in her eyes softened for a moment before she turned back around to glare out the window.
“I advise disgraced Magistrate Greef Karga to search the wisdom of his years and urge you to lay down your arms and come outside. The structure you are trapped in will be razed in short order and your storied lives will come to an unceremonious end.”
“Does this guy actually hear himself speak?” Aili questioned, not expecting an answer from anyone. She figured that if she was still a little taken aback by this man knowing her old designation in the Program, Mando and Cara were probably a little more than shaken up. Mando more than Cara. She was angry on his behalf, because now everyone knew his name and he hadn’t even freely given it.
“What do you propose?” Karga shouted out.
“Reasonable negotiation.”
Even the way he said that almost made a chill run down Aili’s spine. She didn’t want to find out how negotiations would go with the Moff. If only because she already knew the answer and she didn’t like it.
“What assurance do you offer?” Karga tried again to get a decent answer.
“If you’re asking if you can trust me, you cannot. Just as you betrayed our business arrangement, I would gladly break any promise and watch you die at my hand.” The Moff said and finally for the first time, they could hear the sadistic nature in his voice. The one that every high-ranking officer in the Empire had.
“The assurance I give is this: I will act in my own self-interest which at this time involves your cooperation and benefit. I will give you until nightfall and then I will have the E-Web cannon open fire.” And then he turned around and walked away with the Death Troopers following behind him. The rest of the Storm Troopers stayed exactly where they were, including the ones waiting to man the E-Web.
“I say we hear him out,” Karga said as he turned to look at Mando and Cara who were still standing in by the vent.
“Are you crazy or just stupid?” Aili asked before she could stop herself. She had heard a lot of stupid things from people recently but this one was the dumbest. Negotiating with a Moff? That would never go their way even if he made it seem like it would.
“The minute we open that door, we’re dead,” Cara added knowing that negotiations weren’t even really an option. She moved from where she was standing, keeping her head low just in case any of the troopers outside decided to be dumb and shoot at them.
“We’re dead if we don’t. At least out there we’ve got a shot,” Karga tried to argue, not knowing that everyone else had already made up their minds.
“That’s easy for you to say. I’m a Rebel Shock Trooper, they’ll upload me to a mind flayer,’ Cara argued, kneeling down beside one of the dead troopers and stripping him of his weapons before moving on to the next one. It wasn’t much but it was more than they had come in with.
“Those aren’t real, just wartime propaganda,” Karga dismissed her worry easily. He had heard all of the propaganda during the war, none had any actual proof behind them.
“No, those are very real,” Aili stated as she skirted around the wall to join the rest of them. Not that being further back would do much to protect her if and when they started to operate the E-Web. Nothing would help once that happened.
“That’s not helping,” Cara stated, giving Aili a heated look.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize that I needed to comfort anyone right now,” Aili snapped. “But none of you betrayed the Empire and stole so-called property from them. Sure, Mando broke an agreement with this guy, but I took out a whole base and ran off millions of credits worth of assets.
“I already know how these negotiations will go, he’s going to want the kid and me if only so they can fully punish me and then after they break me, they’ll have me kill for them again.”
She couldn’t go back there again. They’d make sure that she couldn’t get away this time, give her a shock collar and then probably set an interrogation droid on her. Not even to get information, just to torture her until she broke and then they would really get down to business.
And if the interrogation droid didn’t work, they’d just keep trying every method in the book until they got what they wanted. Their Dragon Leader back and answering only to them. They’d make her hunt down anyone they wanted, probably make her bring back all the girls she helped escape first. That way they’d have a whole team to work with again.
“That’s not going to happen,” Mando said shortly, his jaw clenched behind his helmet. He wouldn’t let negotiations end that way, not if he could help it.
“Well then unless we can come up with some brilliant escape plan,” Aili said, throwing her arms out to the side. She didn’t see one and she didn’t like that. Didn’t like that she could only see one outcome unless they could get into the sewers without drawing attention. And before nightfall which wouldn’t take very much longer to come.
“I’m shooting my way out of here,” Cara stated as if it would be as easy as that.
“That'll go over well. This isn’t like Sorgan or even like the war,” Aili tried to reason with Cara. She understood the need to get out of there as quickly as possible, but shooting their way out didn’t seem possible at the moment. All of the thoughts running through her head weren’t helping her come up with a plan though.
“What about you, Mando?” Karga turned to look at the only person who hadn’t said much about their predicament.
“I know who he is.”
Aili let out a scoff, louder than she intentioned. “Yeah, a Moff, I think we should all know that much just from uniform alone.”
“It’s Moff Gideon.” Mando stated without any lead in.
That caught Aili’s attention as she looked at Mando with confusion. Sure, she had known it was a Moff they were facing but she hadn’t known his name. Every “division” of the Empire had been kept away from each other, that way if one was taken down there were several more to fall back on and keep the Empire going.
“No, Moff Gideon was executed for war crimes.” It was Cara’s turn to look at Mando like he had lost his mind. She didn’t know much but she knew Moff Gideon’s fate after the war had ended. Every Rebel did.
“It’s him. He knew my name,” Mando said, knowing that wouldn’t make it any clearer for anybody. Except maybe Aili who knew that he was a foundling just like the four foundlings she sponsored.
“So? What does that prove?” Karga questioned.
“I haven’t heard that name spoken since I was a child.”
“On Mandalore?”
“I was not born on Mandalore,” Mando replied, shaking his helmet barely enough for anyone to notice.
“But you’re a Mandalorian,” Karga said, confusion on his face and in his voice.
“Mandalorians aren’t all from Mandalore. It’s not a race,” Aili stated, thinking of the four girls that she had brought to the Armorer and of the little Mando had revealed back on Sorgan when Omera had asked about the helmet.
“It’s a Creed.” Mando said, thinking back to the day he had lost everything but gained everything at the same time. It wasn’t a day he particularly liked to think about. “I was a foundling. They raised me in the Fighting Corps. I was treated as one of their own and when I came of age, I was sworn to the Creed.
“The only record of my family name was in the registers of Mandalore. Moff Gideon was an ISB officer during the Purge. That’s how I know it’s him.”
“That’s how he knows who we all are,” Cara added.
“He says he needs us which means L...the Child got away safely. I was worried when Kuiil didn’t respond but if they’d captured the kid, we’d already be dead.” Even though his words said he had hope that Kuiil had made it to the Crest, Aili could hear the way his voice sounded almost...empty. Like he didn’t actually believe the words coming out of his own mouth.
“Not necessarily,” Aili said slowly. “I know how the Empire works, remember? As much as I don’t want to even say it, he could be waiting until he has the kid physically in his hands. And once he does, he’ll kill us.”
“Once again, not helping. Hail them again,” Cara said as she walked past Aili and Mando to take over the spot where they had previously been taking cover.
Mando raised the comlink, hoping that he was right and Aili was wrong for once. “Come in Kuiil. Kuiil? Nothing.”
“They might have jammed the link,” Cara said, desperate for something to go their way.
Aili was about to say something when the comlink suddenly beeped and they could all hear Little Green cooing over it. But it also didn’t sound like he was on the Crest, the sound of a speeder bike beneath the coos.
“Kuiil has been terminated,” IG-11 said from over the comlink and Aili looked up at Mando. She actually didn’t know what to think at the moment. But she knew Mando wouldn’t like that answer.
“What did you do?” Mando ground out, fist tight around the comlink. He knew that he should’ve fought Kuiil harder against bringing the droid.
“I am fulfilling my base function,” IG-11 replied in short manner.
“Which is?” Mando questioned, voice still as tense as his shoulders were now.
“To nurse and protect.”
“What the kriff is that thing talking about?” Aili asked, looking straight into Mando’s t-visor when he finally looked at her. He shook his helmet at the same time as shrugging his shoulders. He had no idea what exactly Kuiil had done when reprogramming the droid.
Then the sound of blasters going off sounded, including the sound of ones attached to speeder bikes. Everyone looked around at each other in confusion before Cara peeked around the corner of the wall to see all of the troopers outside turn to face where the attack was coming from. There were several explosions further away from them but no one could tell where they were coming from.
“Look!” Cara’s exclamation brought everyone’s attention to the window again. Mando and Aili quickly joined Cara while Karga took another shot of alcohol before joining them. Every trooper had now turned to face the incoming threat.
“Is that…” Aili didn’t even get to finish her question when IG-11 jumped off the speeder bike, letting it crash into several troopers before it crashed and caused an explosion. Cara ducked down while Mando took cover behind the wall again, reaching out to pull Aili behind cover as well when she didn’t move.
“Cover me.” Mando looked down at Aili before he made a move towards the door. Aili didn’t let him get very far, her grip on his arm tight.
Aili looked up at Mando with a hard stare. “I’m going with you.”
“Aili, for once can you listen to me?” They didn’t have time to argue about this and yet here they were.
“We agreed nothing would change,” Aili glared up at Mando. She knew that if she hadn’t let things change between them, he wouldn’t be second guessing her joining him out in the fight. He hadn’t cared when they were on Sorgan, or Tatooine, or even the prison job. But now suddenly she was delegated to cover fire for him?
“Aili, please.” Mando said shortly, ignoring the looks they were getting from Cara and Karga.
Aili stared up at Mando with anger in her eyes and a growing feeling of wanting to smack him upside the head. But they didn’t really have the time to argue. “Fine,” she ground out, teeth clenched. “But we’re gonna have words when this is over.”
Cara hopped on top of the bar and started up her repeating blaster, taking out a good amount of troopers nearby. Mando made his way out the door, taking out the troopers stationed right outside easily while Aili and Karga gave him cover fire from that end. Aili didn’t mean to flinch when one of the Death Troopers shot at Mando but the blast reflected off his beskar easily even from up close.
He shot one before another grabbed him and threw him to the ground but before the trooper could shoot him, he kicked up and Aili shot him down in the time it took Mando to get back up. From there it was easier, taking out Storm Troopers until they all saw IG-11 get shot in the legs and hit the ground, protecting the Child with its body.
“Mando!” Aili shouted over the sound of blasters going off everywhere including her own. He turned to look at her. “The E-Web!”
He was right by it and all the troopers were too far away to get to it before him. He wasted no time in picking up the canon and taking out the troopers around them. That gave IG-11 the chance to stand back up and move towards the open cantina door where Karga and Aili were. Everything was going too smoothly and that was when there was a blast from the entrance of the cantina where Cara was.
“Fuck,” Aili hissed out, unable to hear the sound of Cara’s rifle anymore. She was about to yell for Karga to head back inside when she heard it start up again, taking out any troopers that had made it in. By the time she looked back over towards Mando, she saw Moff Gideon raise a blaster up and without thinking she shot out at him. She hit him on the shoulder so his own shot didn’t meet its target.
Mando still let out a surprised shout at the blaster shot hitting him from behind, bending over a little and losing his grip on the E-Web for a moment. He shook it off, picking up the canon and turning to face Moff Gideon. Before either he or Aili could even attempt to take a shot at him, he shot the box of ammunition causing an explosion bigger than the one from the speeder bike. Karga turned away from it, hitting the cantina wall while Aili took cover back inside the cantina.
When the fire died down, she felt her heart stop for a moment when she saw Mando laying on the ground. He wasn’t even attempting to get back up. Karga started giving cover fire again for IG-11 who kept moving towards the cantina as best as it could. A quick glance into the cantina and Aili could see Cara moving towards the back.
“Cara!” Aili shouted out for the other woman to move as fast as she could. With a quick glance towards Karga who gave her a nod, she ran out and met Cara beside Mando. Aili nodded for Cara to pick up Mando while she gave her close cover fire as they walked as fast as they could back to the cantina. IG-11 and Karga picked up the slack when Aili stopped to help Cara drag Mando into the cantina.
As soon as Karga and IG-11 were inside the door shut behind them, cutting off Moff Gideon and his troopers. Aili and Cara laid Mando against one of the chairs that they had upturned earlier. Aili turned to Cara, “I got this, go keep watch.”
“Are you sure?”
“Not really but I can handle it.”
“This is our only path out,” Karga said to IG-11. “Can you clear it?”
The droid walked over to the vent and placed the Child down before looking down at Karga. “If you go near this child, I will have no choice but to kill you.”
“I understand, can you do anything to move the grate,” Karga replied, still keeping a lookout for any troopers. Cara joined him although she kept looking over to where Mando and Aili were every couple of seconds.
“Yes, of course,” IG-11 said in reply to Karga’s rushed question. He sounded annoyingly calm in the way only a droid could be in this situation. He started cutting through the vent easily.
Aili looked over Mando for any obvious wounds but didn’t see any which meant he was either bruised to hell and back beneath the armor or the beskar was hiding all of it. She looked down at him as calmly as she could, “I’m just going to check the back of your head, no removing the helmet, promise.”
She didn’t wait for his response before she did as she said, her eyes going wide the second she felt exactly what she didn’t want to feel. “Oh shit,” Aili muttered, pulling her hand away from the back of Mando’s helmet. It was covered in blood, more than it should be which meant a severe head wound. This was obviously worse than a simple concussion. Much worse.
“It’s fine.” Mando said, looking up at Aili from behind his helmet. He was impressed by the way she was almost calmly going through the med bag she had brought.
“No it’s not,” she said, her eyes wide as all of her senses went into overdrive. She tried to take a breath, tried to recall all of her field medical training. Head wounds had levels though and after a certain point they had been taught to cut their losses, mercy kill if necessary. But that wasn't going to happen here. Wasn’t even an option.
She just had to figure out a way to help him.

Chapter Summary: Tommy meets Campbell to talk about the plans to kill the Field Marshall while Daphne is trying to adpat herself to living alone. She and William take a walk down memory lane, rememoring how they met and Tommy pays her a visit. The Brummie gangster negotiates with Alfie and they both end up discussing their feelings for Daphne.
Eleven
Tommy had told Lizzie to let Campbell into his office at the pretense that he was parking his car. It was the first time they would meet after his plan to make the Field Marshall leave his house got into work and he wanted to take the Irishman out of guard - and so he did.
“I keep everything locked up, Mr. Campbell. Everything of value.” Campbell looked up at him as he closed the door, a little more forcibly than necessary, on purpose. The man was rummaging through his desk and by the look on his face he certainly wasn’t expecting being caught. Tommy hang his coat, clearing his throat before walking towards the desk. “Take a seat.”
“How is your company treasurer, Polly?” The Irishman asked as he bypasses the desk to stand in the opposite side from Tommy.
“Why do you ask?”
“Oh. Just give her my regards.” Tommy finds the questioning odd but decides to brush it off as he searches for his cigar case, taking one and lightening it. “Ah! You like to play with fire, don't you, Mr. Shelby? Yesterday, in Belgravia, Field Marshall Russell's house was burnt out. An incendiary device was put through his letter box. Which means that he will have to find somewhere else to live for at least the next three months.”
“Which also means that your plan for me to break in and shoot him in his bed is no longer an operational possibility.” Tommy states what they both already know, calmly, a hint of a smirk on his face.
“Indeed, but if you think a wee burn frees you from your obligations, think again…”
“I will keep my side of the bargain.”
“Oh, by God, you will.”
“I will shoot your Field Marshal. But I will do it in a way that serves my purpose.” Campbell is still standing in front of him, both hands holding the cane, clearly riled up by the change of plans.
“The only purpose is my purpose.”
“I will carry out the assassination at a place of my choosing.” The Irishman takes a step towards the desk as he speaks.
“Listen to me. All operational detail must be mutually agreed…”
“I am a soldier of experience and I will determine where and when…”
“Now, that man has twenty-four-hour armed police protection…”
“Your plan was full of holes, Mr. Campbell.”
“My plan was mutually agreed!”
“And now your plan is up in smoke! And I have formulated the only viable alternative.”
“For God's sake. What do you mean? How would you get to him?” Tommy takes a drag from his cigarette, taking his time to answer.
“I won't. He'll come to me.”
“Now listen to me, Mr. Shelby. When this meeting is concluded I must report directly to Mr. Winston Churchill.”
“Your relationship with Mr. Churchill is not my concern.” The Brummie answers nonchalantly.
“And Mr. Winston Churchill will need to hear details.”
“Well, you tell him he'll have to trust me.” They glare at each other for a second, then Tommy speaks again. “Look, Mr. Campbell, I will carry out my mission.”
“Good.”
“Good. But I will do it in a place where it will be impossible for you or your men to have me shot afterwards.” Campbell shifts in his place. “Because that was your plan, eh? Coopers front and back. No way out. Me shot dead, dumped in the Thames. I will do the killing, but in a place where that will not be an option.”
“Where and when?”
“Epsom. Derby day.”

After one week of living in the hotel Daphne decides to rent a flat. It’s the logical thing to do, she thinks to herself, so she can have more privacy and start doing things her way. Her relationship with Alfie was still strained and they were sticking to talk just about business because every time the topic changed they ended up fighting and it seemed that the both of them were tired of it. William and Harriet helped her accommodate in the new place.
She had been avoiding to talk about certain topics with Harriet because she knew how the woman was caught in the crossfire and a part of her, the one who still cared for Alfie, wanted him to have some sort of support system because if she knew him well enough, he was most certainly trying to pretend that everything was fine. Ada was out of town - they have talked over the phone and the Shelby sister assured Daphne that everything was alright between them - so she was relaying on the last person she had left - William.
Since their conversation at the hotel, their first one after she had left Alfie’s house, Daphne had been thinking about the things he said to her. She had been able to avoid the specific topic of her relationship with Tommy on the occasion but she was sure that it was just a matter of time until it come up again. Truth be told, she wasn’t even sure if they had a relationship of any sort because they never really talked about it. Actually, the last time they had seen each other the last thing they did was talk about anything.
“How’s Jane?” She was facing away from him, making tea for the both of them as he adjusted himself on the spare armchair by the fireplace. The flat was not big, everything was in the same room basically - her bed near the window, a little bedside table, a modest wardrobe and a dresser near the fireplace, two armchairs and a center table. There was a nice bathroom and a small kitchen just beside.
“Fine. They are getting used to things there but are happy together. She send you lots of love.” Daphne gave him the teacup and goes back to take her own before getting comfortable on her own armchair.
“Send my love to her when you write to her again.” They fell into a comfortable silence until he asked her.
“Have you talked to Thomas?” She averted his gaze, sinking into the chair.
“Will…”
“You've been avoiding the topic since the night we talked in the hotel.” Daphne was really hoping that her acting had been on point for him not to notice, but she was just so tired that it wasn’t all that surprising that she slipped onto her act. “He likes you.” Her hazel eyes searched for his blue ones and he laughed at her expression. “What? Did you really think I wouldn't notice?”
“I really hoped I wouldn’t have to talk to you about it.” She exhaled loudly, taking a sip of her tea and William takes a moment to observe her: she is looking to the fire, he knows it is because she doesn't want to look at him, her cheeks are still rosy from the cold, her fingers playing mindlessly with the hem of her dress, her legs tucked under her. It was easy to fall in love with her, he knew that more than anyone.
“Well, unfortunately for you, I am your better option right now.” Daphne looks at him again, sees his playful smile and sighs.
“We could always not talk about it.” William raises an eyebrow at her.
“Not an option.” He waits, patiently, as he always does, for her to get comfortable enough to talk. Sometimes, William wonders why she always seemed more willing to share things with him than with Harriet, for example, or even with his sister. Most women didn’t like to confide in a man like that. He should know better though, because Daphne was nothing but unusual in a lot of things.
“Do you remember the first time we met?”
“You're redirecting.” He scolded her and she laughed, sitting up straighter to face him better.
“I am not, I promise.” Daphne had already accepted her defeat because she knew he wasn’t going to give up, but she wanted to make him understand somethings that had been on her mind lately. Somethings that were very important for their relationship. William drank the rest of his tea, putting the teacup into the table and getting comfortable on his chair as he took a deep breath.
“I remember that you gave me quite a scold.” He smiled looking at her to see that she was doing the same. “We fought over what was the best way to treat a patient and you were so damn stubborn, standing there, hands on your hips, holding your ground and defending your opinion so fiercely.”
“I was right.” There was a smug look on her face and he just shook his head in annoyance.
“You were and even so Dr. Lewis choose to believe in me.” Daphne rolled her eyes and William smiled. He knew that she never really liked the old doctor.
“Of course he did. The man worshiped the ground you walked on just because you are a man.” She rolled her eyes before continuing. “And you were a prick just alright.”
“I was. Smug little thing, fresh out of college, I thought I knew better about everything and I certainly wasn’t looking for being proven wrong by a young nurse on my first day.” She remembered that, he was the talk of the hospital that morning and for the following days - the young hot doctor who had just arrived to help Dr. Lewis. Daphne had been there for almost a month, things had been going as smoothly as they could be but her mood was sour due to being away from her brother for so long.
At first, she had been excited about the new addition to the personnel, after all, all help was welcome - that is until she actually met William. She was treating a soldier with a severe injury and Dr. Lewis brought him to give his opinion on it. The first thing she noticed was how handsome he was and how young he looked but the niceties stopped there, because next thing they were arguing about the right treatment to apply and things just went down after that.
“You actually searched for me to try and convince me that your plan was better than mine.”
“And you snapped at me right away. I don’t think I had ever fought with a nurse before but you were having none of my shit.”
“You were used to just bat those eyelashes at them and have your way out of the discussion, weren’t you?” She smirked at him and William put his hand in front of his face, sighing. “Oh, sweetheart, you don’t have to tell me that. I am pretty sure that all the nurses thought I was crazy for fighting you that day. I certainly received lots of death glares on the corridors for weeks.”
“Matron certainly didn’t agreed with that because she gave me a hard time until we made amends.” William still remembers how much the older woman made his life difficult on the weeks right after his arrival.
“Harriet wouldn’t shut up about you and how I should give you a chance because you were ‘oh, so nice and gentle’.” She feigned an affected voice, then paused for a second looking directly at him. “And how I was going to fall for you if I did open up. I think I did, for a while.”
“Daph…”
“No, I have to say it for both our sakes.” They looked at each other for a long moment before she continued. “We never really talked about why I couldn’t stay with you and sometimes I feel selfish for keeping you around.”
“Then we both are being selfish because I didn’t wanted to lose you either.” She takes a deep breath, gets up from her seat collecting the teacups and walks to the kitchen, gets the bottle of whiskey from the counter along with two glasses and goes back to where he is, pouring them both a dose, offering one of the glasses to him and then getting comfortable on the armchair again. Daphne took a sip of the amber liquid, relishing on the way it burned her throat as she observed the fire crackling.
“I really fell for you at the time, you know.” Her voice was firm, as if she was trying to reassure herself and him at the same time.
“I know. You are good at pretending but not that much.” They smiled at each other and stayed in silence for a moment.
“And I really wish that things could have been different, that we could have gotten a better chance but you were right when you said that I didn’t wanted to live after Benjamin died. I just never let myself acknowledge that.”
“Nobody can blame you for that. I don’t blame you for that. After we came back, every time I saw Jane I thanked God for her being safe and remembered how you must feel everyday because of him.”
“I’m sorry for shutting you out and not giving us a chance. Most part of the time I am sorry for not letting you go.”
“It wasn’t your choice. Not entirely at least. I stayed because I love you and between being in your life as a friend or nothing at all I would always choose to stay. We already talked about that.” They did, in fact, when Daphne told him they couldn’t be together anymore, not as a couple, he had asked her if she wanted him to leave her life completely even if it would’ve been impossible at the time because they were serving at the same place. But she haven’t wanted him gone back then and she still didn’t want him gone now.
“I just don’t understand how I couldn’t love you the way you loved me back then but I can fall in love with another person now. It just doesn’t make sense and…”
“Hey, hey, hey. Stop that!” He kneeled in front of her, taking the glass of whiskey half drank from her hands and resting it on the table, holding both her hands in his, forcing her to look at him. “Love is not rational, Daph. I know we try to find some explanation, a reason for it but it doesn’t exist. We don’t choose who we love or in what moment we love them.”
“We could have been good together.”
“We are good together.” He smiled at her and squeezed her hand. “Just because we are not together as a couple it doesn't mean we don’t have a good relationship. We’ve been supporting each other all these years, you can’t say to me that this is not a good thing.”
“It is. You’re one of my best friends, always will be.” She smiled at him, remembering all the times he had been there for her. There was no denying how important he was in her life. William would always be a huge part of her history.
“Then talk to me. Don’t push me out because you think you’ll hurt me. I will say to you if something is too much but let me help you.”
“I don’t know what to say. Really.” Daphne sighed as she sank into the chair and William adjusted himself on the ground right in front of her. “The way I feel about Tommy is… different. He makes me feel things that I had never felt before. Things I didn’t wanted to know about.”
“Well, you’ve been avoiding it for years now, I really wouldn’t expect nothing less.”
“He’s everything I didn’t wanted for my life.” Problem, that’s what he was. A big, huge problem. William laughed and Daphne gave him a not so playful slap on the arm.
“Maybe he is exactly what you need him to be even if you haven’t realized it yet.” She looked at him, half closed eyes, a smirk on her lips.
“When did you got this wise?”
“You’ve been rubbing off on me.” William smiled at her and Daphne felt the urge to hug him, so she did, sliping from the armchair to sit on the ground with him.
“Why couldn’t I have stayed in love with you? Life would be a lot simpler.”
“That’s the thing, life is never simple.” The moment is interrupted by a knock on the door, so Daphne gets up to answer it and she has a hard time coming into terms with the person standing in front of her.
“Thomas?” William looks at the door after hearing the name, his eyes meting Tommy’s for a moment before he got up from the ground.
“Hope I am not interrupting anything.” His voice was devoid of emotion but Daphne notices the hint of displeasure on his face. William was faster than her to answer.
“No. I was heading out, already.” He was putting his coat on and heading to the door. “Mr. Shelby.” They shook hands briefly and the doctor turned to face her. “You’ll gonna be alright?”
“Yeah.” She nodded and he got closer, giving her a kiss on the check before heading out.
“See you tomorrow then.” Tommy takes a step to the side, giving space for him to get out of the flat. “Mr. Shelby.” The two men nod at each other and the gangster observes as William walks down the stairs before looking up at Daphne, who was observing him. After a moment of silence he asked.
“May I come in?” She stepped out of his way, opening the door more for him to enter. Tommy looked around, analysing the small space, noticing how it looked cozy, much like her. Daphne closed the door and walked towards the little table near the fireplace, taking both glasses laying there and walking to the small kitchen.
“Do you want tea? Or whiskey?” She turned to look at him and he just shook his head, denying her offer, stuffing his cap on one of his pockets.
“No, I am fine.” Neither of them said nothing for a long while. “Did you knew?” They both knew the answer to that and Tommy didn’t fail to notice the offended look on her face.
“Of course not.”
“Then that night, at Charles’s wedding, it wasn't just a way to distract me.” The look she gave him hit him harder than any slap he ever received and, for a moment, he almost regrets asking it, but after Grace he just had to be sure that what he was feeling for her wasn’t just one more thing that Solomons’s could use against him and his family.
“If you thought even for a moment that I would sell myself for something as simple as a decoy you’re clearly underestimating me.” Tommy isn’t accustomed to being held accountable by the things he says and when he does, he usually doesn’t care about what people feel about it. So it actually gets him by surprise how he always seems to find enticing the way Daphne always gets back at him for the things he says.
“You can’t really blame me, can you?” He walks to her, slow and deliberate, leaving her time to back off, which she doesn’t. When they are a breath apart, his cold fingers trace the skin below her neck and then lower, getting hold of the ever present pendant hanging on her neck. He pulls the locket out of the chancel of her dress, feeling the metal against his fingers and this time, different from the night of her birthday, he opens it. As he expected, there are two photographs there - a girl and a boy. “You’ve been hiding a lot of secrets, Senior Sister Scott.”
“Am not the only one, Sergeant Major Shelby.” All he wants to do is to close the distance between them and kiss her, like he had done at the library of the Weston’s house. Give in to desire and press her against the wall, have her right there, but there is something that holds him back. “My past is none of your concern.”
“Your past, your present, your future… I want them all to be of my concern.” The way she looks at him with half closed eyelids should be illegal and Tommy has to take a moment to put his thoughts on check again. “He is the reason why you said I couldn’t make you want things you can’t have?”
“Thomas…” Daphne closes her eyes, feeling trapped in his presence, she doesn’t think that she can talk about Benjamim with him, not yet.
“Because you don’t want to live without him.”
“Tom…”
“You think you don’t deserve to have a life without your twin.” Her hazel eyes focus on his blue ones, hands searching for support on his chest as Tommy holds her to him with his free hand.
“You know nothing about that.”
“I know enough.” She tries to walk away from him, but he is faster than her, releasing the open locket and holding her by the arms, keeping her close, forcing her to face him. “‘Can’t imagine the pain you feel.” Daphne’s resolution falters for a moment, her breath coming fast as if she had runned a mile, she feels her chest tightens as she tries to remembers the last time that she had let herself really feel the grieve.
“He was more than my brother, he was everything.” Her eyes close for a moment and the memories cloud her mind and she relieves all the times they skipped the music classes so they could run through the gardens, searching for a good spot to hide between the trees. How they always sneaked into each others rooms at night so they didn’t had to sleep alone. The way he always seemed to know what she was thinking before herself. Daphne searches for the locket, closing it and holding it between her fingers as she rests her forehead into Tommy’s shoulder, his hands travelling to her waist as they sway from side to side for a long moment.
“Why did you stayed with Alfie?” Daphne thinks for a moment but she already knows the answer, she has knew it for a long time.
“Because it was comfortable.”
“And I am not, so that’s why you’re fighting this.” She doesn’t answer, it’s not needed, they both know it’s the truth. The woman raises her head, looking at him again.
“Why are you fighting this?” There is a long pause where the only thing they hear is the crackling of the fire and the noises of the city outside.
“Because you deserve better than me.” Daphne sees nothing but truth in his ice cold blues.
“I think that is for me to decide.” And decide she does, standing on her tiptoes and closing the gap between them in a gentle kiss. As their lips move together all that Tommy can think about is how much he doesn’t deserve the woman in his arms. In that moment he too makes a decision, a decision that could change everything.

“Did you one anyway, you ignorant git.” He doesn’t notice that Ada had entered the room until she places the cup of tea almost in front of him, turning to leave. That is the moment that Tommy raises his eyes from the paper in front of him.
“Ada, sit down here for a minute.” She does as he asks while he folds the letter and puts it on the envelope, linking it to seal. “Ada, if anything happens to me today, I need you to post this letter. The stamps already on. Don't ask any questions. It's…” He pauses for a moment as he takes the cigarette from the ashtray. “...to do with insurance.” Ada looks at him, a little disturbed by the information, picking the envelope from the table.
“Look, Tommy? Whatever it is you're involved in, just tell us. God, you never let anybody in. We love you, Tom.” His eyes search for hers in the moment and Ada seems to be in an internal battle to choose her next words so he picks the other envelope and holds it between them.
“This one you can hand over yourself.” Tommy sees the curiosity in her eyes turn into worry when she sees the name outside the envelope.
“What are you going to do, Tommy?” James enters the room and Tommy gets up, walking to the couch to pick his coat. “What are you doing up at six o'clock in the morning?”
“Ready?” He asks the young writer that nods at him.
“What the bloody hell's going on?” Ada asks, voice an octave higher.
“Little errand.” James answers her.
“What errand?”
“He just has to stand there, Ada.” Tommy adds as he picks his things..
“Stand where?”
“Let's go. Come on.” The older Shelby calls and James follows him out of the room, Ada a little behind them, talking exasperatedly.
“James, what's going on? Don't listen to him, James, he'll get you killed! What errand?”
“For the cause, Ada. The good old cause.” The young writer tells her as he and Tommy walk out the door. The two men walk the streets towards Camden Town and when they are approaching Alfie’s bakery Tommy says.
“For the next ten minutes, you don't do or say anything I haven't told you. All right?” Met with silence he asks again. “All right?” James confirms it just before they reach the doors.
“Hello, Ollie.” Tommy greets the young man as he heads to the door.
“Hang on. Just you, yeah? He stays out here.” Ollie admonishes and Tommy turns to James, pointing at him with his index finger and then at the ground, throwing his cigarette away as he does.
“You stay here.” The young writer stands there, looking around a little apprehensive, as Tommy follows Ollie inside. He stops, pretending to tie his shoe much to the annoyance of the young man, before they continue to Alfie’s office. The Jew barely acknowledges him as they enter the room - feet propped up on the desk, leaning back on his chair reading the paper - and Tommy takes a seat in front of him. He just talks when the phone starts ringing.
“That'll probably be for you, won't it?” Tommy gets up to answer the call.
“Hello? Arthur. You're out?” When the call is finished and Tommy sits back on the chair, Alfie straightens himself to look at the Brummie.
“Right, so that'll be your side of the street swept up, won't it? Where's mine? What you got for me?” Tommy takes the license from his suitcase and hands
“Signed by the Minister of the Empire himself.”
“Yeah?”
“Which means that you can put your rum in our shipments and no-one at Poplar Docks will lift a canvas.”
“You know what? I'm not even going to have my lawyer look at that.”
“No, no, it is all legal.”
“You know what, mate? I trust you. That is that. Done.” He straightens his hat and then turns to pick a bottle of whiskey. “So, whisky. There is one thing, though, however, that we do need to discuss.”
“What would that be?” Tommy asks, taking a drag of his cigarette as Alfie places the bottle on the desk, holding his glasses to his eyes and analysing the contract.
“It says here twenty percent paid to me of your export business.”
“As we agreed on the telephone.”
“No, no, no, no. See, I had my lawyer draw this up for us, just in case.” He places the new contract, that he just got from the drawer, right in front of Tommy, leaning on the desk to show it to the other man. “It says that here, that a hundred percent of your business goes to me.”
“I see.”
“Just there Don't worry about it, right. Cos it is totally legal, binding. All you have to do is sign the document and transfer the whole lot over to me.” Alfie reclines himself back on his chair, waiting for Tommy to sign the contract.
“Sign just here, is it?” The Brummie asks, calmly.
“Yeah.”
“I see. That's funny, that is.” Tommy says, taking a drag from his cigarette and pointing at the paper in front of him.
“What?” The Jew asks, confused.
“No, that's funny. I'll give you a hundred percent of my business?”
“Yeah!”
“Why?” Ollie, who had been standing there, fidgeting more than usual, points a gun towards Tommy, who looks at him unamused.
“Ollie, no. No. No. Ollie, no. Put that down.” Alfie takes the gun from Ollie’s hands and places it on the desk, as the younger man retreats to the background. “He understands. He understands. He's a big boy, he knows the road. Now, look, it's just non-fucking-negotiable. That is all you need to know, so all you have to do is sign the fucking contract. Right there.” The Jewish gangster taps with his finger where Tommy is supposed to sign.
“Just sign here.” Tommy says, before stubbing the cigarette on the ashtray.
“With your pen.”
“I understand.”
“Good. Get on with it.” Alfie encourages when the other gangster does nothing.
“I have an associate waiting for me at the door. I know, he looks like a choirboy but he is actually an anarchist from Kentish Town.”
“Tommy, I am going to fucking shoot you.”
“Right? Now, when I came in here, Mr. Solomons, I stopped to tie my shoelace Isn't that a fact, Ollie?” He looks at the younger man and then at Alfie again. “I stopped to tie my shoelace. And while I was doing it, I laid a hand grenade under one of your barrels. A mark fifteen with wire trip. My friend upstairs is like one of those anarchists that blew up Wall Street, you know? He's a professional. And he's in charge of the wire. If I don't walk out of that door by the stroke of seven, he's going to trigger the grenade and your very combustible rum will blow us all to hell. And I don't care ‘cos I am already dead.” Alfie scratches his beard, holding his glasses and analysing Tommy for a moment.
“He tied his lace, Alfie. And there is a kid at the door.” Ollie confirms.
“From a good family, too. Ollie, it is shocking what they become.” The Brummie remarks.
“What were you doing when this happened?” Alfie turns to face Ollie.
“He tied his lace. Nothing else.”
“Yeah. But what were you doing?”
“Marking the runners in the paper.” The young man seems embarrassed. There is a little noise of metal and Alfie turns to see Tommy with his pocket watch in hand.
“What are you doing?”
“Just checking the time. Carry on.” The Brummie show a hint of a smirk on his face. The Jew gangster takes the gun from the desk and hands it to his associate.
“Ollie, I want you to go outside and shoot that boy in the face from the good family.”
“Anyone walks through that door except me, he blows the grenade.” Tommy explains.
“He tied his fucking lace, Alfie.” Ollie becomes nervous by the second.
“I did tie my lace.”
“I bet hundred to one that you're fucking lying, mate. That's my money.” Alfie plays with the gun that he took away from Ollie’s hand.
“Well, you see, you have failed to consider the form. I did blow up my own pub for the insurance.”
“OK, right, well, considering the form, I would say, sixty five to one. Very good odds. And I would be more than happy and agree for you to sign over sixty five percent of your business to me. Thank you.”
“Sixty five? No deal.” Tommy looks at the younger man. “Ollie, what do you say?”
“Jesus Christ, Alfie. He tied his fucking lace. I saw him. Look, he planted a grenade. I know he did. Alfie, it is Tommy fucking Shelby.” Alfie gets up and hits Ollie in the face, holding him by the collar of his shirt.
“You are behaving like a fucking child. This is a man's world. Now, get that apron off and sit in the corner like a little boy. Fuck off. Now!” As Ollie does what he is told, Alfie checks his pocket watch and sits again.
“Four minutes.” Tommy says
“Right, four minutes. Talk to me about hand grenades.”
“The chalk mark on the barrel at knee height said, "Hamilton Christmas". I took out the pin and put it on the wire.” Tommy spins the pin between his fingers before putting it on the empty glass sitting on the desk. Alfie takes it to inspect.
“Based on this…” The Jew shows the pin to Tommy. “...forty five percent.”
“Thirty.”
“Aw, fuck off, Tommy. That's far too little.” He throws the pin at Tommy, who picks it up and starts to play with it.
“In France, Mr Solomons, when I was a tunneller. A clay kicker. A 1-7-9. I blew up Schwaben Hohe. Same kit I'm using today.”
“Funny that. I do know the 1-7-9 and I heard they all got buried.”
“Three of us dug ourselves out.”
“Like you're digging yourself out now.”
“Like I'm digging now.”
“Fuck me!” Alfie whispers, leaning into his chair. “Listen, I'll give you thirty five. That's your lot.” Tommy thinks for a moment.
“Thirty five.” Alfie spits on his hand, gettin up and offering it to Tommy, who does the same.
“Now you go out there, send the good boy from the good family home, and come back here, because we have other business to discuss.” Tommy nods, goes outside and sends James back home, when he comes back Alfie is alone in the office. He closes the door behind him, sitting down on the same chair he was some minutes ago. The both men contemplate the silence for a few minutes, the Jew is looking out to the window. “You probably already know about Benjamin, don’t you? ‘Know you’ve been doing your research on us for a while.”
“I do.”
“Do you know what he meant to her?” Alfie turns to face Tommy, elbows resting on the desk as he intertwined his fingers in front of him.
“I know he was her twin, yes.”
“He was more than that. They were everything for each other. I knew him. The boy served under my command til the day he died. Wouldn’t fucking shut up about her any chance he got. When I finally met Daphne it was as if I already knew her.” He remembers, clear as day, her hazel eyes looking back at him, fighting to hold back the tears, blood all over her nurse uniform. “I fucking promised him I would protect her. Now, we both know that neither of us are men of keeping their promises but this one, this one I intend to keep, because everytime I look into her eyes I believe, even for just a moment, that there is something good in this world. She suffered enough, deserves some happiness and I am not letting you ruin her chances at it. I am not letting you ruin her, Thomas.”
“I don’t plan on it.” Alfie scoffs at him.
“As you didn’t planned to fuck the beautiful blonde who came all the way from New York with her posh husband.” Tommy doesn’t show any signs of emotion but the Jew knows better. “Yeah, I know about her. The woman who betrayed you and then fucked off to America. Beautiful thing she is.”
“She is in the past.”
“Is she? Really?” Alfie restes his arms on the desk, leaning closer to the other man. “Because you’re sitting there telling me that you don’t plan on ruining Daphne but you are lying to her, ‘cause you were with the posh blonde some weeks ago.”
“It’s done. What I had with her is done now.” He pauses for a moment and Alfie just observes him without saying anything. “I know how much you care about Daphne and you have my word that I don’t intend to hurt her.”
“That’s the thing, mate, sometimes the things we don’t intend to find a way of happening.”

Delicate Stages Drabbles 15
Feeling That You Get
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x OFC
Summary: Drabbles following Delicate Stages. Looking into the life of Bucky and Ana.
Warnings: Language. Fluff. Implied smut.
Words: 4.7k
A/N:  Finally! Sorry it took so long for this one, as it tends to set up the next drabbles to follow, which will be the endgame now (See what I did there :D )(Do not read unless you’ve read Delicate Stages first)
Five Months Later:
Bucky is doubled over laughing, has been laughing for the past five minutes and he swears he hasn’t cried from laughing in decades. Honestly, he is not shocked in the slightest with how this scenario turned out. The minute Bucky got a call from a blocked number he knew who it was. He was relieved. It had been six weeks since they got the news before Steve finally contacted him, but Ana, she was nothing but sass.
“Wow, glad to see that dinosaur knows how to use a phone!” She said loud enough for her voice to be heard.
Bucky leveled her with a look, but all she did was shrug.
“Six weeks, and you’ve had this annoyed and worried tick in your jaw, that no matter how hard I rode your face, it just wouldn’t go away.”
Bucky’s eye went wide with shock, followed by a loud cackle and Steve’s stammering response on the line. He caught his wife’s arm before she could walk away, pulled her in for a searing kiss and muttered against her lips:
“Maybe you gotta try one more time, darlin’, just to be sure.”
Steve hung up, only to call back two hours later.
Now, Bucky is getting the entertainment of his life. Both him and Ana were by the lake enjoying a nice lunch, when they were surprised by someone neither of them were expecting to see. That’s when Ana began throwing rocks made of dirt at him.
“Buck! Get your wife!” Steve shouts behind his makeshift shield, which happens to be an empty bucket of feed.
“He can’t help you, Rogers!” Ana yells, pelting clumps of clay at the man.
“Bucky!”
A bigger dirt clump explodes as it hits his shoulder, Steve’s left side of his face sprinkled with clay. Bucky tries to contain his laughter, tries to take deep breaths so he can speak. However, his wife’s aim has always been spot on and he won’t step in to stop her when she’s in a rage. A very entertaining, protective rage.
“Bet you’re regretting leaving your shield now, pal” Bucky quips, earning a glare from Steve.
“Say you’re sorry!” Ana demands, throwing the last rock.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Now will you stop? I’m getting dirt in my mouth!”
When Ana finally ceases her attack and Steve’s blue shirt is colored with orange-brown spots, they invite him into their hut. Bucky gave him a lecture that brought on a feeling of déjà vu, as if he was scolding his friend back in a Brooklyn alley once more. Steve had explained his side of what happened with the portal and the team breaking up. It’s not something either of them wanted to hear, but at least everyone who is on the run seems to be safe and well hidden. With the exception of Clint and Scott Lang, who both had families to think about and made a plea bargain instead.
Bucky feels a strange wave of emotions radiating from Ana as he sits next to her. Their arms are touching, skin to skin, and it feels like cold prickles seeping through his pores. He briefly wonders if this is what his wife feels all the time, and how second nature it is to her now. He stretches his pinkie finger over hers, offering her comfort.
“Vision went to meet up with Wanda?” Bucky doubles checks. He’d be concerned for the girl if she was hiding from the government alone. He knows exactly how that feels, and Wanda is still a kid to him; just 21.
“He took off in the middle of the night, so he wouldn’t be followed,” Steve confirms.
“So,” Ana finally speaks up since Steve started talking. “It’s just Rhodes then? Technically Peter, but since he’s underage and not an official Avenger, the Accords don’t apply to him. Nor do they actually know his identity.”
“Correct,” Steve answers solemnly. Bucky sees his eyes squint as he pauses. He meets his gaze fleetingly, both coming to the same conclusion. “Tony isn’t alone, Ana.”
“Doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel like he is,” She mutters bitterly. “Pepper’s been out of town too.”
The sigh Steve exhales sounds heavy with remorse. However, Bucky knows him down to his core, and though his friend might be feeling guilty over the fact that his friendship with Tony is now strained, Steve still believes he did the right thing.
“I sent him a burner phone, in case he ever needs me,” Steve informs Ana. “I’ll always be there,” He pauses once more. “Just not where the government is involved.”
Bucky swipes his pinkie finger over his wife’s several times. He’s watching her carefully as silence stretches between the three of them. Finally, she nods in understanding, Steve sending her an appreciative smile. He kicks his foot out to nudge against her own, until she returns the teasing gesture. Bucky sags with relief. This entire Accords situation has not put Ana in a good mood during those first two months.
Numerous times she had snapped at Bucky or grumbled about how stupid heroes could be. He just took it, allowing her to lash out at him, until Ana caught herself. She told him he shouldn’t allow her to do that, that her anger and disappointment is misdirected, but it’s not an excuse. Bucky had told her he didn’t mind one bit, that he would rather have her lash out then bottle it up. Ana insisted that he stopped her the next time it happened, and when it did, he spoke up. He told her it wasn’t fair, and she agreed.
Since then, Ana hasn’t snapped at him once, and they have talked it through together. He helped her accept that what happened was the others decision, and the fallout was something they would have to handle. Ana wasn’t a part of it, so her strange guilt was moot. She had also accepted the Healers of Wakanda’s advice to begin mediating; Bucky thinks it helps better than anything. He also thinks the make-up sex has plenty to do with that too.
He blinks back to the present, pressing a quick kiss to her temple. She leans into him, and out of the corner of his eye, he sees Steve’s expression soften into a smile.
“Maybe this is good in the long run,” Steve speaks up, his voice airy, light. Bucky narrows his eyes suspiciously. “Maybe it’ll give Tony and Pepper time to start a family.”
Ana perks up next to Bucky. “Maybe! I know Tony wants kids.”
Bucky narrows his eyes at his best friend. He has a feeling he knows where this is going. Steve’s eyes flash, a sign of mischief he has seen since he met the little skinny kid on the playground.
“You know,” He begins, “you seem to be glowing, Ana.”
Bucky shakes his head at the lame attempt, laughing under his breath. When he catches Ana’s gaze, she looks confused. Which last for three seconds before she looks back at Steve, then to him once more. Suddenly he sees it click in her beautiful brown eyes, rolling them towards Steve.
“Yeah,” She states. “It’s called being happily married…with a healthy dose of mind-blowing orgasms.”
Steve drops his blushing face into his hands. Bucky makes an indigent noise.
“Not what you were expecting? Because I’m not expecting,” Ana laughs brightly. “Although, we do have a lot of se-“
“Alright, Шалунья, enough out of you,” Bucky scolds playfully, wrapping his right arm around her shoulder to cover her mouth with his hand. She promptly licks his skin, as if it would bother him.
“I’m sorry I implied anything,” Steve mumbles behind his hands.
“Actually,” Ana’s word is muffled by his hand. Instead of removing it, she bites the fleshy part of his palm. Bucky inhales sharply, glaring at his wife as he lowers his hand. He swallows thickly. He’ll get her back for that.
“I think it’s to do with my abilities?” She questions at the end as Steve uncovers his face. “It’s been shimmering lately. Could be due these rings Shuri made. They help regulate the energy without the exhausting affects, and it’s always been tied with my emotions. So, the happier or angrier I am, it starts to glow.”
“She has been extremely happy, well and angry,” Bucky supplies. He feels Ana squeeze his hand, offering him an apologetic smile. He shakes his head, since all has been forgiven during those rough weeks.
“That’s interesting,” Steve muses.
Before either of them can say anything else, the little Kimoyo beads Shuri gave Ana as a necklace glows against her chest. Bucky carefully plucks it off the bead, holding it flat in his palm, a small holographic screen popping up. Shuri’s cheerful, youthful face takes up most of the frame, but she frowns when she sees Bucky instead of Ana.
“Nice to see you too, kid,” Bucky greets flatly.
“Stop stealing her beads,” She laughs, twisting as if she can see Ana. “I’m not summoning you on her bead, genius.”
Ana presses her cheek against his, leaning into him. “He’s just jealous he doesn’t get a personal one. Do you need me to come to the Lab?”
Shuri nods excitedly. “There was a breakthrough with the psychiatric healing devices!”
“On my way!” Ana grabs the bead from Bucky’s hand as the screen vanishes. “I’ll be back, you boys have fun! Stay out of trouble and don’t feed Rosa anymore treats, she’s had enough pears today!”
Then she’s taking off, waving her goodbye in the air. Bucky can’t help the fondness washing over him as she disappears over the hill.
“She’s still the same as ever,” Steve voices softly.
“Stubborn and fierce to the core,” He agrees. “I like her.”
“Good thing she’s your wife.”
Bucky wraps his arm around Steve’s shoulder, tighten his grip firmly. “Don’t you ever go that long without checking in again, you hear me Rogers?”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, mom.”
 *
An hour goes by, filled with Bucky putting Steve to work for a bit, then taking him around the village. He has visited before, but he never wondered outside of the palace or lab. He meets the village people and children, some of the other tribes, and takes him to the lake Bucky is fond of.
“This is where you purposed?” Steve questions, gazing out over the lake.
“Yup, and the spot you’re standing on is where I dropped the ring, twice. Because I was so damn nervous,” Bucky laughs at the memory.
“So,” He drawls out, “you haven’t discussed children yet?”
Bucky snorts, running his fingers through his hair. “She mentioned starting a family before we got married, but we haven’t really brought it up since.”
“Any particular reason?”
He doesn’t answer right away. The possibility of having kids with Ana makes Bucky’s heart sore. However, it also leaves a bitter taste of self-loathing in his mouth. Could he even be a good father? Would he be enough? He keeps those doubts and fears to himself for now.
“We’ve just been enjoying our time as husband and wife,” He finally answers. “It’s only been eight months. There’s no rush.”
He sees Steve nod from the corner of his eye. “How are those energy rings holding up for her? Do they make the connect you both have stronger?”
“No, I don’t think. That was all Ana herself when she connected our energies. It’s incredible, Stevie. I can feel her all the time, like her life energy is this infinite sunlight around me. It’s subtle, but powerful.”
A firm hand squeezes his shoulder, and when Bucky meets Steve’s eyes, he sees nothing but happiness there. Along with a teasing eyebrow wiggle, to which Bucky playfully nudges his friend off him.
“The rings are ingenious,” He continues. “Shuri, that girl’s mind is a masterpiece. She keeps improving my arm too, and the rings, and the technology she comes up with is-“ He breaks off shaking his head in wonderment. “This place is amazing.”
“Incredible,” Steve agrees. “It’s beautiful here.”
“Ya know, you can stay here if you need a home.”
“I know that option is always open, Buck. From you and the King, but my place is still out there in the world. There’s a lot of underground issues at hand.”
“Still picking fights with things bigger than you.”
“You know it, pal.”
“Still a scrappy little punk forever.”
Steve laughs brightly, wrapping his arm around Bucky’s neck in a headlock.
*
The trek from the lab to their hut by the lake is just over a mile on foot. Ana sometimes takes the long route to and from, enjoying the serene landscape and warm breeze. Sporadically, she will find a stray goat or pig that has wondered off and coaxes it to follow her back. Other times, she and Bucky take the small journey together, fingers laced.
As Ana makes her way over the final, small hill she spots her husband and Steve, each petting the goats. She hears Bucky introducing the newest additions that race around Steve’s legs, knocking into him here and there. She can’t help but chuckle at the scene when she reaches them, bending to pick up one of the kids that exhausted themselves.
“Having fun?” Ana teases, offering the sleepy goat to Steve. He fumbles briefly, until he gets his large arms securely around the young goat’s body.
“They’re very cute,” He states, cradling the animal. “Bit of a handful.”
“That they are. Hey Bucky,” She turns to address her spouse as he lays down a fresh bill of hay. “Shuri requests your presence. Said she just finished some improvements to the new arm she’s been working on.”
Bucky’s eyes light up, an excited smile on his lips. Walking up to Ana, he gently cups the back of her head, pressing a tender kiss above her eyebrow. In return, she rests her hands on his hips, eyes fluttering at the sensation of adoration washing over her spine.
“Did you peek?” He murmurs against her skin, his left hand drawing circles over the side of her stomach with is thumb.
“No, I know better.”
His huffing laugh warms her skin before he leans back. “Meet you guys back at the apartment?”
Ana nods, placing a quick peck to his mouth. Bucky’s fingers scratch the base of her skull three times, before he steps around her, biding Steve a quick wave as he heads off. Ana catches the Captain’s fond look, clearly having witness their moment. Naturally, she sticks her tongue out at him.
“You haven’t seen our place, have you? In the city.”
Steve carefully lowers the now sleeping goat on a thicker part of the grass. He brushes his hands against his jeans, shaking his head. “Not yet.”
“Come on then!”
 *
They have been walking for a good twenty minutes, taking the scenic route as well, when Ana decides to bring up something that has been on her mind for the past few months. At first, it was just a fleeting thought, a quick feeling, something so minuscule, it didn’t need attention. As the days passed into weeks, and weeks into months, it has now gnawed at the back of her brain. Rather, it’s been pressing against her energy, making little ripples against the positive vibes in the air.
“Steve,” She speaks up casually, “Can I talk to you about something, uh, with me?”
The worried expression flits over his face fleeting. “Anything, Ana, you know that.”
She nods, fiddling with her wedding rings. “I’ve been…having this strange feeling. It never feels urgent, but it’s weird, almost like it’s scratching at something I don’t know is there.”
“With you two?”
“No, no, we’re fine. It feels more like, when you can sense a storm coming, the wind shifts a little, but it isn’t on a grand scale,” She pauses, trying to collect her thoughts. “I’m not explaining it right.”
Ana halts her steps, Steve following suit. “I got upset when I heard about what happened with you guys, so my energy was a little out of control. However, I’ve been doing a lot of mediation, and working with the healers here to connect my energy to an element that’s more grounding.”
“Grounding. As in the earth’s energy?” Steve inquires thoughtfully.
“In a way, the earth is a solid foundation, strong. It embodies energy of life all around in many forms. The healers allow me to visit one of the sacred places with them so I can mediate without interruption. It helps steady it, plus the rings regulate this ability more so. I’ve been doing it for over two months now, and I think maybe that’s why I can feel it?”
“Feel what, exactly?”
Waving her hands around her, she answers, “A strange, vitality, settling over the earth. Is that weird? It’s probably weird, since it’s never happened before. It’s not quite, ominous. The atmosphere here is mainly happy, positive vibes, and Bucky is-“ She breaks off, smiling softly at the mention of her husband. “He’s been great, and he feels great, and I can feel him, you know?”
“Yeah, he mentioned that. Says you feel like sunshine to him,” Steve smirks, but his eyes are soft, clearly happy for them both. “It’s cute. Romantic.”
“Well,” Ana rubs her warming cheek briefly. “It’s true. Anyway, because of all that this new feeling is foreign to me. It makes my empathy feel off at times.”
“Do you feel like it affects you in any way? Physically? Emotionally?”
“No, that’s the thing. If it’s a darker energy or feeling, it normally would affect me. This is just, there. It fades in and out, but it’s there.” She bites her lips nervously, rubbing her fingers over her collarbones. “What do you think?”
Steve doesn’t answer immediately. He’s pensive, blue eye appraising her. Ana fiddles with her rings again, waiting for a response and hoping she doesn’t sound crazy. She had an almost identically feeling way back at the compound when they still lived there. It kept building and building until it exploded into the fallout that ultimately led her and Bucky being separate for nearly a year. Before she can give her herself a panic attack, Steve finally speaks.
“You’ve been getting stronger over time,” He states, voice low as he thinks. “I think the more you were opening yourself up to Bucky at the time, the stronger you became. It wasn’t just him though, your abilities grew, what you did to Woods-“ He stops short, shaking his head. “We never truly trained with you or got see how far your abilities developed. Maybe now, with how your life is, a constant source of happiness, of peace, comfort, it’s a safe place to not hold back. You can use your powers without resistance.”
Taking her own time to process his words, Ana carefully twists the rings on her middle fingers. The thin sheen of the energy shield encases her body like another layer of skin. She holds her hands out in front of her, twisting around to see the shield shimmer. It even looks brighter, or maybe it’s just the sun reflecting off it.
“Do you and Shuri run tests with that?” Steve asks, leaning as close as he can without touching. “Because the last time I saw you use these, it wasn’t this visible. Although, it was through a video screen.”
“We run tests bi-weekly,” She informs him, twisting the rings off. “I don’t think much has changed though.”
“Does it feel like a threat?”
“N-“ She pauses. She doesn’t know why, but the word just died on her tongue. She shakes her head. “No. Not…yet. Do you think it could be? I can feel threats from a distance?”
Steve shrugs as he picks up her hand to examine the ring closer. “We can’t rule out any possibility, right? Wanda grew stronger the more she trained and experimented herself.”
“Yeah, but Steve, if I can actually feel threats at a great distance…that’s insane! I’m not that strong. That’s something else entirely. Right?”
“Anything is possible, Ana. You know that,” He says softly. Then he taps her wedding rings. “Have you talked to Bucky about this?”
Ana frowns. “No. I don’t want him worrying over something that could be, well, could be nothing. It didn’t feel pressing and honestly, I would forget until I felt it again.”
“This isn’t me teasing you again, but are you sure you’re not pregnant? Maybe that could throw it off as well?”
“I am one hundred percent sure, but that would be a good theory. The alchemy is off when I get sick too.”
“Were you sick recently?”
“No, just emotional with…” She trails off, shrugging.
“Yeah,” Steve drops her hand, crossing his arms and dropping his head. “I really am sorry, Ana. Going off the grid like that. It wasn’t fair to both of you. Either was lying to you.”
“Steve,” Ana places her hands on his solid biceps. “I shouldn’t have gotten as angry as I did. As long as you’re all safe.”
“We are. Now we are. There were some serious injuries-“
“Colonel Rhodes,” She nods solemnly.
“How is he?” The concern in Steve’s voice is thick.
“Tony made this walking contraption for him. After some intense therapy, he’s walking fairly well with it. He’s okay. He keeps telling Tony he didn’t blame anyone, but he stands by what he believes.”
“Sounds just like him.”
“Yeah, just like someone else I know,” She smiles pointedly at him.
Silence settles between them, with the colorful arrays of the setting sun on the horizon. Ana gets lost in her thoughts, as she assumes Steve does too, with the looming caress of that strange energy. She will talk it over with Bucky later, but for now, she just pushes it aside once more. She taps her friends’ elbow, jerking her head to the side.
“C’mon, it’s just another ten minutes from here.”
***
Weeks and months pass, and in between it, Ana visits New York and even California a few times. She keeps under the radar, especially when Bucky goes with her to see Pepper and Tony. The issues of the Accords and Avengers aren’t brought up, but she can tell it’s taken a bit of a toll on Tony.
Ana distracts him by showing off her rings, although she keeps the technology behind it a secret. Bucky distracts Tony with his vibranium arm as the genius himself marvels at the teenager’s piece. She takes great enjoyment when she watches Tony try to figure out the inner workings of the arm.
Ana and Bucky go from deeply in love newlyweds, to deeply in love established marriage as the year passes. The strange feeling of that particular energy still whispers up her spine once in a while, and when she did tell Bucky, he convinced her to report it to T’Challa and Shuri if it ever grew stronger. Reassured her that he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her, even if that means unknown, seemingly harmless negative energy. Both agree to monitor it, just in case, writing down when Ana feels it ad if Bucky can see a change in her.
She continues to work in the lab as Bucky works on the farm and helps the village people with manual labor tasks. Nothing grows or changes with the feeling, and they focus more on each other, their lives together, and the little stray Black-Footed cat that had wondered into their hut one night with an injured leg. The cat stuck around after they nursed back to health, seeming to enjoy chasing the goats around.
“How about Eliza?” Ana offers as the small cat pounces on the large goat.
“For a cat?”
“Hey, Ezra was named after a poet- “
“Ezra is a lazy domestic cat. Not a wild and free creature like this spitfire.”
“Fine. Then I’m naming her Cat like I mentioned the first time. That way, she technically has a name, but she technically doesn’t because is she actually a cat. A cat named Cat because she’s a cat.”
“You mind never ceases to amaze me,” Bucky mumbles, as he pulls her in by her waist.
“You love me for it,” Ana teases, brushing her nose against his.
“Every day for the rest of my life, Annie Doll.”
Then he kisses her with a searing passion, and they leave the cat name Cat to lay with the goats as the disappear inside the hut.
***
They visit again during the holidays, staying in a cabin Tony had bought recently and renovated in upstate New York. The surroundings were beautiful, frozen streams and frosted trees, glittering powered snow as flakes whirl through the freezing air.
It’s the first actual Christmas Ana and Bucky have together, and she knows, she feels, how much Bucky seems to dislike the winter. The cold. He’s had enough of it in his life. She makes it her mission to show him that the bitter cold and wet snow don’t always have to be negative or tied to Hydra memories.
She thinks she makes progress when she nails Bucky in the back with a perfectly made snowball. She hides behind a tree, barely has time to take a breath before her husband finds her, wrapping his arms around her waist and tumbling onto the snowy ground.
They laugh breathlessly, as she takes a handful of snow and smashes it against his head. Bucky retaliates by attacking her lips, the kiss passionate and heated enough to melt the flakes around them. Until he sneakily presses snow against her neck. Ana squeals from the ice, making him roll over. She stands up, then proceeds to ran away from him.
When Bucky catches her once more, his blue eyes reflect the glimmer of the snow crystals against the light. He looks happy, playful, any signs of lingering, horrible memories gone. And when they go inside to warm up and dry off, something shifts between them.
They snuggle up in front of the cozy, cackling fire in the living room, with thick fuzzy blankets and hot chocolate. There’s a tall Christmas tree in the corner, twinkling with different colored lights, the branches making the room smell of balsam. Pepper is in the kitchen, quietly making dinner as Tony pretends to help her. Ana is pressed against Bucky’s side, both watching the snow falling through the large windows. Then he speaks.
“This place is beautiful,” He says softly. “Would be a nice place to bring a family to for the holidays.”
Ana is glad she just finished taking another sip of her hot chocolate. She carefully places the mug down, tilting her head to see his eyes. He’s staring straight at the fireplace. She smiles, then kisses his scruffy jaw.
“A family, huh?” She confirms, her heart fluttering in her chest at the thought.
Bucky’s soft chuckle makes her heart flutter. “Yeah, whenever those two decide to have kids.” There’s a short pause. “Or us.”
“Is that your way of saying something, Winter Flurry?”
She feels his chest rise and fall with a slow breath. “Yes.”
“You want to start a family?” Ana questions seriously, sitting up a little straighter.
He slowly meets her eyes. “Someday. I think,” He exhales shakily, wringing his hands together. “I won’t lie, Annie. I have some self-doubts about it, fears, but,” he pauses to look at her. “We’ll do it together. Obviously.”
Ana laughs. “Obviously,” She takes his hands, lacing their fingers together. “One day. A family. You’ll be an amazing father, just so you know.”
Bucky softly kisses her nose as she scrunches it up.
“I’m good with just you right now though,” She whispers when he pulls back.
“Me too, love.”
She closes the space between them, pressing her lips to her husband’s warm, slightly chapped ones. She feels every ounce of his excitement and fear, but overall, love. They both know they just want to spend time being married, there is no rush for them to have children, and they’re willing to wait for it. For now, they snuggle closer together, listening to the cackling fire, the soft voices in the kitchen and the snowfall outside.

Meet Me at the Chalet || day two.
Eventual pairing: Tom Hiddleston x OFC (Jenessee Borosi)
Word count: ~2.1k
Summary (I suck at these): Jenessee goes on a solo vacation after the release of her first novel. She got a little more than she bargained for when she gets snowed in with her biggest celebrity crush.
Warnings:  So much freaking fluff, swearing but blink and you’ll miss it, depressing thoughts (future chapter), mental breakdown (future chapter), Tom being Tom
night one. || day one. || day two. || day three. ||
Tumblr media
“Stop eating the carrot! We need a nose!” I scolded Tom, shaping the mound in front of me. He took another bite to spite me before stuffing it into the head of our snowman.
This morning, Tom was in a pleasant mood. He decided to knock on my door, get on his knees and sing “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” The laughter that erupted from me would have awoken everybody had there been anyone else here. He was just so cute. He had all of his winter gear on, including a knitted hat with a poof ball on top, his black pea coat, snow boots, and gore-tex gloves. He looked so cozy and warm and just so darn cute, I couldn’t say no. We gathered supplies for dressing our specimen before finally stepping outside. The snow was perfect for snowman making and there was plenty of it.
“I can’t help it,” He whines. “We really should have eaten something before we came out here.”
“Oh yeah? And whose fault is that? Mr. ‘We have to go outside now!’” I mocked him as he was while I was getting ready. He was so pushy! I was under the impression he was a “patient” man. Apparently that is completely disregarded when it comes to making a snowman.
“Can you blame me for being excited? I haven’t built a snowman since I was a child! I didn’t want to miss the perfect opportunity.”
Despite my eye roll, I couldn’t condemn him for it. I also haven’t done this for quite some time which is why I was all for it when he asked and didn’t fight him when he rushed me. Thankfully I packed gloves, a hat, and warm enough boots to withstand the cold just in case.
Whack!
Something hard hit me in the middle of the back. I turn and gape at this mischievous man who was tossing a ball of snow between both hands. A smirk plastered on his face as he watched me through his eyelashes over the top of his glasses. He was doing his best to channel Loki in this moment. Embracing the God of Mischief must be second nature for him after playing him for so long. I can only imagine what he does to get into a character that is a complete 180° from who he really is.
“Did you just throw a snowball at me?” I incredulously asked, raising an eyebrow skeptically at him. If he wants to start a war, he will lose. I played softball for six years and can throw a mean ball. He will regret this.
He shrugged nonchalantly. “So what if I did?” In a second he went from mischievous to playful. The glint in his eyes sparkled in the bright light.
“Then you would be starting a war you are guaranteed to lose.”
Snowballs of all shapes and sizes flew and smashed when they came into contact with body parts, laughter and screeches filled the air, dusts of snow were kicked up as we ran from the other, dodging what was thrown at the other. It was loosely tossed in the other’s face and shoved down the other’s back. It was all fun and games until someone was pelted in the face so hard that glasses went flying off.
Tom fell to the ground instantly, disorienting him enough to lose his footing. I, on the other hand, folded over in laughter with my knees nearly giving out on me. I made my way over to him, trying so hard to breathe through it, but I ended up collapsing in front of him, finally giving into my weak knees. We lay in the snow, cackling at the other, basking in the moment. The second we would stop laughing, we would start back up again. Embarrassingly enough, a few snorts came from my nose to which ignited more hearty laughter from both parties. Tears fell from both our eyes, nearly freezing against our cheeks.
Several minutes passed, the laughter had died down. Silence having filled the air now as we both lay still on our backs, staring up at the gray sky, minuscule snowflakes dusting our faces.
“Hey Jen?” He broke the silence. I hummed back. “You win.”
I sighed in contentment. “I told you I would.”
He chuckles at my smug response before finally peeling himself off the ground. When he leaned down to give me a helping hand, I noticed a red streak just on the edge of his eyebrow.
“Oh my God, you’re bleeding!” His hand flew up to his cut, flinching when he came in contact with it. I started apologizing profusely, adding “I wanted to win, but not like that.”
We retreated inside finding a first aid kit behind the front counter. Being guilt-ridden, I insisted on patching him up, not taking no for an answer. He sat on the couch while I stood behind it so I could assess the damage. Once the blood was cleaned off, it turns out it wasn’t too bad. A piece of ice must have just scraped him.  Easy enough, right?
Wrong. Fixing him was easy, but I quickly found myself losing focus, getting lost in his handsome face, admiring the little details that not a lot of people get the chance to see. Oh how badly I wanted to trace the scar on his forehead that he received a few years ago from running into a stage door. The only imperfection I see in site. I took note of his jealousy-inducing eyelashes any woman would pay big bucks for. Knowing they shield his swoon-worthy blue eyes makes them treasured by many. His ginger lock that beg for fingers to run through them have hints of blond that no one would see unless in the sunlight or up close. My curiosity to see how soft they are nearly takes over my sense of reason.
Thank God he closed his eyes so he can’t see my ogling.
“Will I live?” He asked looking up at me after I finished.
“I think the odds are in your favor.” I patted his shoulder signaling he could get up if he so chooses. “Although, it might leave a gnarly scar, but hey, at least you’ll have a new story to tell.”
“I don’t know which story is more embarrassing: running into a door or getting hit in the face with a snowball.” He chuckled, shaking his head at himself.
“Oh now I’ve got to hear this story.” I plopped myself on the couch, eagerly awaiting him to continue. We were both laughing in no time at all as he animatedly told the story, also going into his lesser known scar stories. We eventually relocated to the kitchen, both of us starving for some sustenance. After he finished his stories, we moved onto mine. They weren’t nearly as entertaining, but he listened with the same enthusiasm as I had his.
It was then I realized just how easy it was to talk to him. He is quite literally the easiest person to talk to. I feel like I could talk to him about anything and everything. I could tell my deepest and darkest secret without any fear of judgment from him. I could tell him all of my fears and insecurities, and he would be there to tell me “it’ll all be okay,” that I’m not crazy for having such thoughts. He would be the shoulder I could cry on if I need it… I could trust him.
Dear God, that’s scary. Trust does not come easy for me. I’ve been burned by so many people I have put my trust in before that I just don’t trust anyone new in my life. Only a few select people get that luxury. My heart wants to add Tom to that short list, but my head is arguing with it, being the voice of reason. If nothing comes from this week, I’ll always be thankful to him for showing me I can let someone in and it’ll all be okay in the end…
Later that night when we had said goodnight, I received a call from one of my best friends.
“So how’s vacation? Still pissed you went without me.” I chuckled at her bitterness. If she could have gotten off work, she would have been here with me, experiencing all that is Tom. a.k.a. #1 on her list. We’ve talked implicitly and explicitly about what we would do if we ever had Tom as our own. When I eventually tell her, she will flip.
“Well,” I started, trying to come up with the best way to explain it all without giving away the most important detail. “The solitude I wanted has been compromised.”
“What do you mean?”
“Let’s just say the only alone time I’ve had is at night.” I was hoping by being extremely vague that by some miracle she would get it. She knew of my plans to lock myself in my room from the second I got here to the second I left. She was looking forward to the same thing if she were to come along.
“Who have you been spending the days with?” She asked, catching on.
“His name is Will.” I knew just by giving those small details, she would understand.
“And you’re just telling me this now? What’s he like?” She fired a million other questions to which I stayed silent.
“I can’t say much, but just know he’s the best person I’ve ever met and I will give you full details when I get home.” After she made me promise at least ten times to tell her everything the second I get back, she was satisfied and we ended the conversation at that.
She is going to kill me when I tell her the truth.
I shrugged at the thought. At least I’ll die knowing I had met the most amazing man there ever was or ever will be.
Lying on my bed after gathering my supplies, I tried to get back to my piece, re-reading it to return to the mindset. I stare at my words in my familiar scribble unable to come up with what to do next. The worst part about being a writer is writer’s block. Not being able to do what you want or being able to put to paper what you have in your head is beyond frustrating. It’s comparable to a doctor not being able to help a patient or a mechanic not being able to find the problem with a car. Not being able to do your job is both annoying and infuriating. It is especially when the reason I came here was to get inspired, and possibly start something new. I did begin something, thanks to Tom’s suggestion, but haven’t been able to get back to it since I stopped last night. Despite him saying he believed in me, I just couldn’t think of anything to write. No matter how many times I would re-read it all, nothing came to me. Nothing.
The only thing that did occupy my mind was him and the way he looked at me just outside my door. Such intensity and curiosity, I had to stop myself from launching at him. Every fiber of my being wanted to latch my lips to his, to feel them capture mine like I’ve seen his do with multiple co-stars. Would they be strong or like pillows? How would his beard feel against my face? Would he moan or sigh as they connected? Or would he pull away before that would even happen? Would he say I was being inappropriate and apologize for making me think otherwise?
Whatever the outcome might have been, it didn’t occur. Dwelling on the past helps no one. I need to get a grip and channel my frustration into writing.
Doing so actually helped me continue, my pen flying across the pages well into the wee hours of the morning. Getting lost in a story is my favorite part of creating. It’s only a hope that the reader gets just as lost. The next thing I knew the sun was peeking through the curtains and the smell of coffee invaded my nostrils from downstairs.
Wow. I haven’t pulled an all-nighter like this since college… I am not going to be any fun today.
I left off on a cliffhanger to inspire me when I return to it later. I had fully planned on just sliding everything to one side of the bed and crashing, but then I smelled bacon.
day three...

Pairing: Dean Ambrose x OFC Warnings: Choking, unprotected… rough smut. I’m gross SORRY.
Summary: Dean agreed to a fun night with his friend Seth, visiting a high class exotic dancers club in Vegas. He got himself a lot more than he bargained for.
It was a Sunday night and the boys had finally gotten a day off. They booked their hotel rooms for the night in Vegas, where their careers had led them to for the night. After a long week of wrestling for house shows and television on Monday night, Seth and Dean were given time to go out on the town and have a “boys night out.” Seth was more thrilled about it than Dean, since Dean has really been living in Vegas for quite a while now but Seth could not stop going on and on about the nice bars they could visit. Dean agreed to entertain his friend and go to wherever he dragged him along, and that included one of the most popular strip clubs in the city. Dean wasn’t surprised when the overly excited man brought it up, suggesting they just stay around for a little and watch the exotic dancers. He wasn’t as hyped as Seth has been, but wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to witness the extremely talented dancers in action. He agreed they’d just hang around for a bit, spend some money and not get too carried away. At least that’s what Dean agreed to. Seth had made no promises. Their plans aside, they were pulling up into the large parking lot, purple and blue lights illuminating on their faces from the lively sign. “Girls, girls, girls” the sign had written, along with the name of the place right under it. The owner has really put a lot of effort into the place, turning the negative connotation of strippers into something extravagant. These ladies were looked at almost as if they were famous. Seth hopped out of the car quickly, almost stumbling on his own two feet before heading towards the doors. Dean chuckled to himself and the two were patted down by a large bouncer before being granted access. The men waltzed inside and were immediately greeted by two busty topless women, the two rather identical looking girls feeling up on their arms and giving them a smile. Seth was distracted by the two, investing in conversation about who knows what as Dean’s eyes trailed up to the five dancers across the stage. There was a section of seats in front of them to sit and watch, and rich looking men in suits placed money by their feet. It was assignable that the audience wasn’t actually allowed to touch the women. He slipped from the crowd of three and had his eyes bored into one woman in particular, his feet taking him to a seat directly in front of her. She smiled at him once she noticed, and faced him as her slow movements continued. Pure interest was on the man’s face as she danced in slow motion. It was almost as if she were dancing just for him. His tongue darted out across his lips as she bent down, legs widened in front of him, still dancing and contorting her body in ways he didn’t know were possible. The beat of The Weeknd’s “Earned It” that had boomed throughout the club suddenly slowed down when his icy blue eyes met with her dark brown ones. She then stood, twirling around the stripper pole as she held his gaze. She did everything so skillfully, effortlessly having him in the palm of her hands. She had to have done this a million times, he thought. Dean inwardly cursed himself as he realized he hadn’t reached in his pocket once. What was he doing? He lifted his lips to grab his wallet and without thinking, he placed a hundred dollar bill at her feet. She was knelt on the stage in front of him and a smirk came across her lips, tongue slowly sliding along her bottom lip as she picked up the crisp bill and shoved it neatly in her bra, joining the other countless dollars that were in her chest. He felt pressure within his jeans as he looked down and noticed the growing bulge beneath him. In that moment her eyes trailed to where his was, and they both made eye contact again. “Look what you did.” He said lowly, dark lust laced in his tone. She only let out a giggle, body never missing a beat.   Dean wondered how old she was, she looked to be maybe just twenty years old and he wondered how such a young girl could learn to be this skilled so fast. She whipped her thick, curly hair around as her back was turned to him, ass so close he could reach out and touch it. He wanted to so bad, but he knew that would only result into him getting kicked out. These games became too much for him, and he didn’t like the thought of walking out of this club without her. He wanted to do terrible things to her. What was supposed to be a silly night turned into something else for Dean as he watched the fit, darker toned girl shake her hips in front of him. “Let me take you home.” His voice was low, demanding yet pleading at the same time. She didn’t respond as she continued dancing slowly around the pole. Maybe she didn’t hear him. “Baby, let me take you home.” His eyes were boring into hers and the music seemed like it stopped as her face was inches from his. “I don’t do private dances, babe.” She spoke. That was the first time he heard her speak. His stomach jumped when he heard her raspy voice, it sending vibrations straight to his dick. His eyes were almost pleading, wondering how he could go on without knowing what this hypnotizing young girl would be like in his bed. She had went through countless men every night that would ask her of the same thing he was. They’d plead for her to let them have one night with her. They were usually the losers who didn’t know how things worked around here. The dancers never slept with the customers, unless it was on their own personal time and it was something that they personally wanted to do. Though, she couldn’t deny to herself that the invitation was tempting. His reddish brown hair hung almost in front of his eyes. Large biceps flexing when he reached down to subtly acknowledge his bulge. He didn’t look like all the other soulless, rich men that would come in and try to forget about their wives. She also couldn’t deny that she was growing wet at all the things he did, from throwing the money down to shifting uncomfortably in his jeans, to even just holding her gaze. It was all a slow game, and she debated in her mind whether she should give in. The dance was almost over, it being almost time for the next set of dancers to take their place. A sweat was breaking across his forehead as it felt so hot in there to him. He was throwing another Franklin down as the music let up, and the bright blue and green lights turned to regular white ones. As if in unison, the dancers stood and headed for the curtains. Dean was about ready to jump out his seat and ask her for just one more dance, but stopped when she turned around and caught his eyes once again. “You can pick me up around back outside.” Was all she said before she slowly walked away, hips shifting wildly in her black underwear. Dean didn’t think twice before standing up quickly, looking for Seth among the crowd. He found him instantly with three different women, them all having bills stuck between their underwear. “You’ve seen me on TV?” Dean heard him say to one of the girls, earning a giggle and a nod from her. “I’m taking the car. Take a cab, okay?” He said, tone letting him know not to argue with it. Seth only seemed to be half listening as he only nodded and handed him the car keys, too fascinated by the girls in front of him. Dean slipped out the front and headed for the black range rover, starting the car up once he was inside. He briefly checked himself in one of the mirrors and debated whether to take his leather jacket off or leave it on. Before making a decision he realized how much time he was wasting, and just pulled around the back like she said. He waited for a few moments, watching as some of the dancers walked out to the expensive looking cars or with a man that had to be their secure boyfriends on their arm. Then he saw her. She wore a different pair of high heels, louboutins to be exact. A tight white top that showed off her belly piercing clung to her skin and high waisted skinny jeans complemented her long legs. Dean sucked in a breath at the sight as he hopped out of the car, opening the passenger door car for her before heading back to the driver’s seat. He collected himself in the few minutes of waiting for her and reminded himself to act like, well himself. His charming, mysterious self. There was no way she wanted to hook up with a guy who couldn’t get himself together because he was so excited about the opportunity. Dean pulled off towards the booked hotel room, not being able to stop himself from looking at her at the red lights. She finally caught his gaze, an actual grin coming across her face. “What?” She asked, amusement in her tone. He shook his head, turning his attention back toward the road. “You’re just so damn beautiful.” Who knew how he got here, exotic dancer in his car and ready to blow his mind for the night. He pulled in to the closest parking spot toward the entrance, again opening the passenger door for her as she had been waited for him to do so. He could tell she was the type of girl who knew she deserved nothing but the best. The hotel room opened with the click of his key and she stepped inside, looking around at the well decorated room. She placed her purse down by the television as Dean shut the door behind him. He didn’t think for another moment before taking two strides towards her, large hands grasping her hips as his lips crashed against hers. A small gasp left her lips, not expecting it but she soon caught up with him, fingers leading up through his hair. She pushed him into a sitting position at the edge of the bed as that small smirk never left her lips. His lips were plump from the heated exchange and he watched, eyes glazed over and in a daze as she came down to her knees, not yet taking an article of clothing off. She only reached above her, slowly sliding his leather jacket from him and quietly admired his large arms. She pulled off his shirt soon after, and sat back on her heels as she took in the sight. “You work out?” Her voice was something that Dean would never get over. An eyebrow of hers was raised as she reached for the buckle of his belt. He almost forgot to respond as he watched her work his jeans down to his ankles. “You don’t know who I am, baby?” Her eyes were big, almost innocently locking onto his as she started to pull the band of his briefs down. “That’s alright,” he continued, “I’ll show you soon enough.” His hands were up in her hair, taking in the unbelievable sight below him. She finally, for what had felt like ages to Dean pulled his briefs down to his ankles as well. They watched as his dick bounced out, quickly springing up for her. It was his turn to smirk as she swallowed, eyes glancing up to him and then down to his shaft. She breathed confidence, and it was refreshing to see the fleeting look of anxiousness before it had washed away. Her tongue darted out slowly across his tip, and a growl emitted from his lips. She closed her eyes, moaning against his skin as her thick lips closed around the head, tongue sliding on the underside of his dick. Dean couldn’t bring himself to look away as she took in all of him skillfully, slurping noises filling the room. He was grumbling curse words left and right, breathing heavy as his climax was near. He didn’t want to cum so soon, thinking of other ways he could finish but he didn’t have the strength to tell her to stop, his tip brushing against the back of her throat. “C’mere.” He finally said, grabbing a fistful of her hair. She reluctantly detached herself from him before being pulled into a sloppy kiss, one they both enjoyed. Dean scooted back against the bed, pulling her along with him as he stripped her of her clothes, heels included. She was seated atop him in her bra and undies, and that was too much clothing for Dean. He unclasped the back of her bra in one swift motion and her breasts spilled out in front of him. He wasted no time in taking them both into his hands, tongue darting out to welcome each of them. He heard her moan for the first time, and he never wanted to erase that sweet sound from his mind. He ripped her underwear from underneath her, bringing a stinging sensation across her hips. She found herself craving more of his roughness, grinding her now bare heat against his thigh, wetness forming onto his skin. “You’re so nasty.” He groaned, face contorted into pleasure as he watched her. She bit her lip, matching his expression before being tossed to lay on her back, the gruff man leaning over her. No warning was announced as he shoved two of his thick fingers into her, them quickly picking up speed. Another throaty moan came from her as she looked down at the sight. She gripped onto his large shoulder, throwing her head back at the feeling. The girl found herself letting out a whine when she felt the loss of contact, his hand slipping from her and into his mouth. “Tell me what you want.” Pure lust was laced in his tone, eyes slanted and a darker shade of blue taking over. She was catching her breath, legs still spread wide open for him. She never found herself being in the submissive position of a man, but something about him changed everything about that and all she wanted was for him to take over every portion of her body. “Eat me. Eat this pussy.” She bit down onto one of her fingers, sending him the sexiest look that made the pace of his heartbeat race. In no time he was laying down, face right between her legs. He teasingly swiped his tongue up from her entrance to her clit, watching her face the entire time as her eyes closed, head hitting the pillow. He lazily tongue fucked the young girl beneath him, bringing his hips to roll against the bed as his dick was growing painfully hard, too hard to ignore. Sweet, raspy moans escaped her lips as his beard prickled against his thighs, almost hurting but when tied in with everything else he was doing, it all felt so good. She soon was a writhing mess as he had to hold her hips down, not letting her clit leave his mouth. He heard her try to muster up some words before he witnessed her orgasm for the first time that night. His hand reached down to stroke his member as he watched her slowly come down from the high. They were both sweating from the interaction and neither have them had barely done anything. He was soon leaning over her, lips touching along her neck when his tip met at her entrance. “I’m gonna fuck the shit outta you.” He promised, his dick quickly thrusting into her once he finished his sentence. She gasped loudly, his dick all the way in on the first thrust. His hands were in fists on the bed beside her as he pumped himself back out, and in again. His movements were painfully hard, and she dug her freshly manicured nails into his sweaty back to not be moved around too much from his quick thrusts. She was definitely a moaner, her voice filling the room as the movement of his hips seem to be getting harder, and harder, and harder. He brought his left hand to her throat, and she gasped at the suddenness of it. Their eyes locked and she grew even wetter around him as his face was completely focused, brows furrowed and all. She wrapped her tiny hands around his forearm, enabling him to keep his grasp around her throat. He was sure not to hurt her, at least not in the way she wouldn’t like. “Oh, fuck!” She exclaimed, practically on the verge of tears from the feeling. He was pounding into her, her soft gasps being heard after each thrust. “You like that, baby? Huh?” He growled as he came down by her ear, his breath hot against her now sweaty neck. All she could do was nod, but that wasn’t good enough. “Answer me!” He demanded, yet his voice was almost pleading as he was so close to the edge.  “Yes! Fuck, yes! Fuck me!” She begged, nails showing no mercy to his back. He was now gripping her hips, the slapping of their skin being heard by the two of them, along with the shaky breaths they both shared. His eyes shifted from her bouncing breasts to her face as her eyes shut tight, back arching off the bed. He growled dirty things at her, begging for her to cum for him, just for him. She wasted no time, obliging to just that. Her eyes rolled back, whimpers and curses flowing from her mouth with ease. The sight of that alone finally brought Dean to the edge and he pulled out right on time to let hot shots of his cum hit her thigh. He groaned to himself, hand pumping his dick weakly as his load dropped onto her skin. All she could do was watch the sight, and loved every moment of it. He soon collapsed beside her, his shaggy, full of sweat hair falling into his eyes. It was now completely dark outside, a complete contrast from the sunset when they had first walked into the room. He was surprised as he felt her at the side of him, dragging herself close against his chest. He wrapped one of his arms around her hips, his mind replaying every moment that had just happened. He discovered that she was asleep in a heartbeat, soft and short breaths leaving her lips. Dean reached across the bed and soon the room became pitch black. The next morning, he tried his luck and reached beside him, only to find an empty space. He groaned, opening his eyes at the sunshine beaming through the blinds. A torn piece of paper with red letters caught his eye, and he quickly sat up, taking it from the bedside table to read it. That was fun. Also, thanks. I’m treating myself to something later today, xoxo. He furrowed his eyebrow at the last sentence, before a thought crossed his mind and he searched for his wallet, finding that on the bedside table as well. He discovered only a twenty dollar bill, three hundred dollars less than what he had, and the rest of his credit cards still in place. He chuckled to himself, scratching his head before the fact dawned on him that he’d probably never see that woman again. His stomach dropped and he scrambled to put on his clothes, ready to call Seth and tell him what their plans were for tonight.

Loki/OFC Rated M for Violence and NSFW Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4

Tumblr media
When Octavia and Loki had finally woken up from their sex dazed slumber, the word awkward was an understatement. They had ended up having sex four times in total throughout the night, but the last three times had been longer, and before they realized it the sun had come up and the sex was no longer necessary. They had both fallen asleep immediately, curled up against each other. When they awoke they awkwardly sat up, and Loki magically dressed them, since he'd fallen asleep before he'd had a chance to do so.
"I should check outside. Make sure it's safe before we move on." Loki told her as he stood up, walking over to the cave entrance.
He was in a decent mood this morning. Although, he had realized half way though their sexcapades last night that he had a thick fur blanket in his magic pocket, and he could have just used a spell to warm her up. Why he had not thought about that before he had already fucked her twice he couldn't figure out. Maybe it was his dick screaming out for him to get laid. He decided he was going to keep that bit of information to himself; he was sure she would not be happy. Plus, her not knowing had its advantages. He'd get to fuck her quite often and although he wasn't too thrilled about the idea at first, now that he'd finally released some of his sexual frustration he wasn't ready to give it up just yet. Though, it was a little weird now. Usually, he'd just kick people out of his bed when he was done with them; he never kept the same partner for very long, but this was a slightly different scenario. He actually had to face her the next morning, and he honestly wasn't sure what to say at this point. "Damn..." Well, there went his good mood; maybe...
"What?" Octavia groaned, almost afraid to even ask.
Loki sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a chuckle. He wasn't sure whether he was pissed or thrilled right now. "We slept all day." When his words didn't register he elaborated. "It will be dark in an hour."
Octavia's eyes grew wide with horror. "WHAT! Are you fucking kidding me, an hour!? Oh my fucking, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!" she exclaimed, realizing her only hope was fucking Loki again. "How could you sleep all day!"
Loki gave her a 'don't fucking blame me', look. "You slept all day as well!" It really wasn't like him to sleep so long, but under the circumstances....
"Fuck, fuck my life!" She threw her hands up and growled. "At least tell me that stream is clean enough to bathe in? Please, please, please!" she pleaded. "I feel so gross. I'm dirty and full of Loki semen. I cannot fuck you again this gross and I'm not fucking you until you bathe as well!"
Loki only chuckled at her comment and confirmed that yes, it should be clean enough to bathe in. He was actually about to suggest it, feeling rather gross himself. It wasn't far from where they were staying so they had time. Loki took the lead and they quickly made their way back to the stream to clean themselves up.                                                     *********** Octavia had basically stripped when she got there. Loki had already seen her naked (her shirt came off at some point last night) so what was the big deal now. She was going to have to screw him again anyway. She threw her clothes down and stepped in and started scrubbing herself with her hands. Turns out they both needed each other's help to remove all the dirt and that was annoying, though Loki didn't seem to mind, which annoyed her even more. Loki had magically cleaned her clothes for her, for which she was grateful, and they headed back towards the cave just as it was beginning to get dark.
"I'm hungry." she whined as they headed inside. "I guess we aren't eating tonight?"
"No." He said almost regretfully. "Too dangerous to hunt."
She sighed and nodded, but didn't complain. There was no point. It really wasn't his fault the sex had been so amazing they both went into a coma afterwards. Octavia just hated to admit to herself that she had enjoyed it. A part of her may have even been excited about the fact they were stuck in the cave another night, though being cold was getting old.
"I shall stay awake this time and make sure we leave at a decent hour tomorrow." Loki assured her, getting comfortable. He gave her a dark, lusty smirk. "I suppose we will be having a repeat of last night?"
"Shut up." she almost laughed, but stopped herself. No, do not start to like him; he's an ass. Octavia rolled her eyes and walked over next to Loki, sitting down beside him. "Before it gets too cold, tell me something about yourself." She gave him a pleading look. "I can't keep fucking you and know nothing about you, other than your a god, arrogant, an asshole, and apparently a Frost Giant."
Loki chuckled. "What do you wish to know?"
She thought for a moment. What did she want to know? "Well, basics. Favorite color, age, and perhaps some things you enjoy?"
"Green I suppose would be my preferred color. I also like black, as well as gold. I'm over a millennium in age, which is equivalent to about twenty-two Midgardian years." he explained. "I enjoy the dark arts; magic, as well as reading. I like knowledge." he smirked. "Now you. Same questions."
"Okay, well, I like black and hot pink, mostly together. I'm twenty-three so that makes me older, and I also like books. I paint and draw as well. I like pretty things..." she trailed, remembering her world and how beautiful it was, and how horrible and violent this one was. "Anyway-" she began, snapping out of it. -"So, if I overstep my boundaries, just tell me to shut up." she paused. "Why did Odin take you? I mean, if he was at war with them why take you back?"
"As a bargaining chip, basically. For peace." he spoke sadly, and Octavia didn't miss the tone. Why Loki was even telling her this he wasn't sure. Maybe because he didn't expect to make it off this miserable planet, so what did it matter. "I know he regrets it. He told me my birthright was to die, cast out on a frozen rock." Loki's voice had converted to a whisper. "Instead of the ax, I was to be locked away in the dungeons for the rest of my days, never to see my mother again."
"Where is she now?"
"Dead." Loki growled, causing Octavia to jump. "She's dead." he repeated, burying all his hostility back down deep inside his haunted soul. "I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. I wasn't even allowed to attend her funeral. I was told after the fact..." Loki trailed, his eyes wet and slightly red now.
"I'm so sorry." she told him sincerely.
"I do not want your pity." he growled.
"It's not pity." Loki glared at her, unsure how to take her comment. "I just know what it's like to lose someone you care about, that's all. I lost my dad, though, he was a good dad and not a shitty one like yours sounds."
Loki chuckled silently, then gave her an apologetic look. "I am sorry, for your loss." he told her, brushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Death is never the end, you must remember that."
Octavia could only nod in agreement. Not only did Odin sound like a dick, but Loki's mother had died while he'd been locked up and had been forbidden to go to her funeral. Hell, even on her planet in certain circumstances, they allowed prisoners to attend funerals. From the way he was speaking she had been very important to him and Octavia couldn't help but feel remorse for Loki, even a little guilty for being such a bitch. "Why were you locked up?"
"For a crime I committed in Asgard-I'd rather not talk about it, and New York. I'm sure you heard about that."
"I did." she paused, unsure what to say next. "How did you get out of the dungeons?"
"Thor released me to help defeat the dark elves and I died. I cheated death and I don't even know how. I should be dead." He licked his lips. "Odin I suppose, decided banishing me was better. I am never to set foot in Asgard again. My home is lost to me." Loki missed Asgard. He missed his room, he missed the gardens, the library, but most of all, he missed Frigga. He supposed he was better off; too many memories of his mother. His dead mother...
"Wait, you died?" What the hell?
"Yes, or so I thought. I don't know."
"You sure have been through some shit, haven't you?"
Loki chuckled darkly. "Oh pet, you have no idea."
She wanted to ask more, but she started to shake; the cold was beginning to set in. "Won't be long now." she laughed, shaking her head. "The things I do to stay alive."
"Is it really that dreadful?" he questioned indifferently.
"No, not really." she answered honestly. "I mean, I don't have a lot to compare it too, but it was definitely better than what my ex tried to call sex." she giggled, and Loki chuckled with her. "Seriously, it was awful." Octavia met his gaze and licked her lips. Damn. "You're definitely not awful." No. No, no, no.
Octavia didn't get very long to argue with herself since Loki had pinned her down and crawled on top of her. He'd already magically removed her clothing, as well as his, and had begun to ravish her womanhood with his mouth. She should have told him to stop, that this wasn't necessary just yet, but she couldn't. All she could do was fall apart, gushing against his mouth as he lapped her juices up greedily. Just like the night before Loki fucked her all night, only this time he had found a few new positions to try. She didn't fight it and had decided just to let go completely and enjoy the intense, amazing pleasure Loki was giving her. For a guy she couldn't stand and couldn't stand her, he sure did know how to fuck her.
Loki had once again fallen asleep, but he had at least remembered to dress them this time. However, he hadn't been asleep for very long when he felt Octavia being yanked from his arms, letting out a blood curdling scream.

Part Eight
Master List
Pairing: Misha x OFC / Jensen x OFC Word Count: 2,485 Warnings: none A/N: Here’s part eight of mine and Nicole’s (@iwantthedean) collab! Hope you guys like it! Anyway, feedback for this is awesome! :)
The timing for Adeline and Boden’s meeting with their editor couldn’t have been better. Even though Boden and Jensen had managed to get back on track Adeline found herself fumbling over her words and acting like a teenage girl with a crush whenever she was around Misha. Taking a trip back home for a few days to update Kelly on their progress was just what she needed. If she was going to figure out what exactly to do about her feelings for Misha being away from him for an extended period of time would be perfect for that.
“I have to say girls,” Kelly said once she finished looking over their latest pile of notes and rough drafts, “you’re getting some good stuff! This whole angle of pretending to be their girlfriends was absolutely genius. There’s just one teeny, tiny flaw with all of it.”
Both Boden and Adeline kept their mouths shut, waiting for Kelly to finish her thought.
“It’s not believable,” she said, folding her hands in front of her, “several other publications have printed stories surrounding all of this and each and every one of them are saying that it seems like you two are more like the boys’ personal assistants. If you want to sell this and really get the full story I’m going to need you to start spending more time with them in public doing couple things.”
Boden was about to protest and point out that they had been doing things like that when Kelly held up one finger to stop her.
“Milestone parties for the show and going out all four of you do not count. The press doesn’t believe it because you two are never out with each of the men alone. No more codependency ladies. When you leave here and get back to Vancouver I better start seeing some more press with you two away from each other doing things with your so-called ‘boyfriends’. Understand?”
Boden and Adeline nodded in agreement.
“Good, because if those men decide to end this arrangement because you're not holding up your end of the bargain and you lose this article I have no problem letting you go,” she smiled, “that will be all.”
The girls nodded and left the office. They gathered their things and made their way out to the cab they'd called to take them to the airport. Through the entire drive and up until they were seated on the plane Adeline was unusually quiet.
“You ok?” Boden asked once they were settled and the plane took off.
“I don't know if I can do this.”
 “Do what?”
“Be alone with Misha like that. Doing couple things.”
Boden nodded, thinking for a minute before answering her friend.
“Yes you can,” she encouraged, “try not to think of it as a date. Try to think of it as a business thing. It might make it easier.”
“Yeah that will make it easier but it won't make it believable. The problem is that I don't think I want this to be an arrangement anymore. I think I want the real deal and I think I want it with him.”
Boden held tight to the armrest as they hit a patch of turbulence. “Then go for it, Addy. I really don’t think Misha is like Finn -- he won’t hurt you. Not intentionally, not like Finn did.”
Adeline knew her friend was probably right, but that didn’t stop her from letting her head win out over her heart still, for the time being.
Back in Vancouver, they put in a call to Jensen and Misha, and had them stop by the apartment as soon as they were off the set. The girls had the chance to shower off the travel grime, unpack, and start laundry before they showed up.
“Here’s the deal,” Boden said, handing them each a mug of hot coffee. “When we met with our editor, she still doesn’t think we’re selling this couple thing. Apparently we have to be adults and go out separately. No more double dates or outings together with the four of us, if we can help it.”
Misha glanced at Adeline, who was nervously chewing on her fingernails. “Addy -- you all right? We don’t have to do this, if it’s too much. We can call off the whole arrangement and figure something else out.”
Adeline shook her head. “No, no, it’s fine. Really.”
He wasn’t sure he believed her. “I’m sure this will be just fine. We’re perfectly capable of taking you girls out … at least I think we are. We’re also the same men whose girlfriends left us not long ago, so maybe we aren’t good at date night.”
Misha meant it as a joke, and the whole group picked up on it. It started with Jensen’s soft chuckles, and then Boden stifling giggles. Before they knew it Misha and Adeline had joined in with full laughter. Thanks to Misha’s joke, they all felt less tense about their impending date nights.
Jensen had told Boden that she could dress casual, but she still wanted to look somewhat adorable. She paired one of her favorite off-the-shoulder sweatshirts with a pair of jeans and ankle boots. She spruced up the outfit with some accessories, a cute hairstyle, and pretty makeup.
“I need to head over to Jensen’s,” Boden said, checking to make sure she had everything she needed in her purse as she entered Adeline’s room. “Are you going to be all right to finish getting ready before Misha comes?”
“Sure,” Adeline shrugged. “Have fun. Try not to drink too much.”
Boden chuckled at her friend’s joke. “Ha ha, very funny. Remember, Addy, this is just business, but if you want more, it’s not the end of the world.”
Adeline nodded and went back to her makeup table. Boden zipped her purse and made sure she had her keys, then drove over to Jensen’s apartment. She sat nervously in the parking lot after texting him that she had arrived; when Jensen came out of the building, Boden crawled over the console so he could drive.
“Are you going to tell me now where we’re going?” Boden asked excitedly.
Jensen smiled as he navigated the SUV into traffic. “I suppose I could.”
Boden waited a few moments, but Jensen stayed silent. “Come on! Tell me!”
“All right, all right,” he said with a laugh. “There’s a planetarium and a science museum in town I thought we could check out. The planetarium has a show on Mars, and the science museum has an after-hours adults-only program -- beer and wine and all that.”
Boden agreed that sounded like an excellent idea. “There’s a place similar to that back home that I always loved to visit.”
“Good. First, I figure you’ll want to eat, so --”
“Barbecue bacon burgers?” Boden interrupted, excited.
“Barbecue bacon burgers,” Jensen confirmed. “I wouldn’t dream of taking you out and not feeding you.”
“This is going to be an excellent night,” Boden said, clapping her hands excitedly. Jensen looked over at her from the driver’s side and decided she was absolutely right.
After a sit-down dinner at the burger place, Jensen drove them to the planetarium. He bought the tickets for the show about Mars, then held a still-excited Boden’s hand over to the theater and found them good seats.
“In case I forget to tell you,” Boden smiled at him, “tonight has been absolutely wonderful.”
“Why would you forget to tell me that?”
Boden shrugged. “You said the science museum has beer and wine tonight. And you know how things went last time I drank.”
Jensen laughed, realizing she was teasing him. “I’ll keep that in mind. I suppose in case I decide to keep up with you tonight, I had a wonderful time tonight, too.”
He laced his fingers through hers as the lights in the theater dimmed and the show began. Boden leaned towards him, and he let go of her hand to put his arm around her shoulders.
After the planetarium, they headed for the science museum. Boden ooh’d and ahh’d over every exhibit; Jensen loved that she was so enthralled with their trip.
They kept it to two beers a piece, and, after a few hours at the science museum, they decided to call it a night. Neither of them wanted the night to end though, so Jensen took them back to the guys’ apartment. Boden kicked off her shoes and accepted the beer he handed her. They settled on the couch together, Boden sidled up next to Jensen, and he placed his hand on her leg.
“Have to admit, I was a little nervous about tonight,” Jensen admitted. “But I had a lot of fun tonight. I don’t want to keep comparing you to Lindsey but she never would have done a night out like this with me. I’ve got a half a mind to hunt down that dumbass who cheated on you and let him know how out of his mind he’s got to be.”
Boden smiled and blushed. “That’s sweet of you to say.”
“I mean it,” Jensen said quietly, caressing her cheek. “Would I be taking advantage of our arrangement if I kissed you right now?”
“I’m not drunk like I was the other night, Jay.”
Jensen cleared his throat and got up from the couch. “Right. I’m sorry.”
“Wait,” Boden said, catching him by the arm. Jensen dropped back down to the couch with her. “I just meant, you know, if I kiss you tonight, I can’t use being drunk as an excuse.”
“You don’t need an excuse,” Jensen assured before pressing his lips to hers.
It wasn’t the make-out session they’d had in the back of the SUV when Clif rescued them from the party, but it was more than enjoyable. When the kiss ended, Jensen and Boden stretched out on the couch together to watch the comedy movie on TV.
When Boden left, Adeline sat at her vanity, putting the finishing touches on her makeup, lost in thought. She couldn’t remember the last time she was this nervous. She tried not to focus on her nerves and remind herself that this was just business, except in the back of her mind she knew that it wasn’t. Her phone going off with a text from Misha, letting her know he was there, pulled her from her thoughts. With a sigh she told him she would be right down before pulling on her boots, scarf, beanie and coat.
She double checked that she had everything and left the apartment, locking the door behind her, to head to Misha’s car. Climbing into the passenger seat she noticed that Misha looked as nervous as she did and that, surprisingly, put her slightly at ease. They drove for a few minutes in silence before Adeline asked where they were going.
“We’ve got a couple stops,” he smiled.
He didn’t say anything else about it and Adeline picked up on the fact that he wanted to keep it a surprise. It wasn’t long before Misha was parking the car and opening the door for her. He laced his fingers with hers as he lead her into a small cafe. The smell was amazing, it was almost like she’d stepped into a pumpkin spice latte.
They got in line and as Adeline perused the menu she noticed a theme.
“I’m in heaven,” she laughed, “I think everything on that menu is pumpkin spice.”
 “It is,” Misha smirked.
 “I love pumpkin spice.”
“I know.” Misha chuckled as Adeline looked at him, surprised. “What? You think I haven’t noticed the empty Starbucks cups in my garbage, or the fact that my trailer smells like a pumpkin every time you hide out in there?”
She gave him a small smile as they approached the counter. After ordering a latte and some food they went to sit down at one of the small tables to eat.
“So, where to next?” Adeline asked when they’d finished their food.
“That’s for me to know and you to find out.”
“You do know I really hate surprises, right?”
“You may have mentioned it once or twice,” he laughed, starting the car.
The drive to their next destination was short and they were once again getting out of the car and waiting in line. Misha had explained that they were going to be riding a ghost train. Adeline was more than excited and it kind of amazed her that he knew how much she loved Halloween and planned this date around all of her favorite things.
Once the train ride was over they decided to take the long way back to the car. The temperature had dropped since the sun went down and Adeline walked as close to Misha as possible in an attempt to keep warm. Her fingers were laced with his once again and she was starting to realize that maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea not to think of spending time with him as just business anymore.
“I probably shouldn’t say this,” Misha chuckled, when they were almost at the car, “but I think about you probably way more than I should.”
Adeline looked down at her feet in an attempt to hide her blush. She wasn’t going to say anything but in a split second she changed her mind. She stepped in front of him and pushed herself up on tiptoes and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
 “Yeah, me too.”
The drive back to her apartment was filled with comfortable silence. When they finally arrived Misha walked Adeline up to her door.
“I had a great time tonight,” she smiled, turning to face him, “thank you.”
 “So did I.”
Something between them had changed. This time it was Misha who made the move. He pulled her close to him and kissed her fervently. She pulled away from him long enough to unlock the door to the apartment and once the door was shut behind them her lips were on his again.
They hastily shed their coats and shoes as they moved through the apartment. By the time they’d reached Adeline’s bedroom they were down to their underwear and Adeline’s brain went into overdrive. She wanted to do this, she really did, but at the same time she felt like she couldn’t. They were still technically working together and she didn’t want anything jeopardizing that.
She pulled away from him and took a second to catch her breath. “We can’t do this.”
Misha looked confused at first but understood. He ran his hand through his hair and nodded before gathering his clothes from the floor. He got dressed quickly, told her he’d see her on set the next day, and walked out of the apartment. As she got ready for bed Adeline couldn’t help but wonder if she’d ruined any real chance she’d had with him.

“Doing okay?” Jensen asked Boden.
She nodded. “Yeah, getting used to be out here late, I think.”
Jensen gave her a small smile and waited for the reset to finish. Hopefully they could get this done in the next couple of takes, then he and Boden could both get home. He was sure she would get bored or be exhausted, though she never showed signs of either.
They did indeed wrap filming in less than hour. Boden followed Jensen back to his trailer, patiently waiting for him to change and be ready to leave the lot.
“Big plans tonight?” Jensen teased.
Boden smiled but shrugged. “Nah. I'm not really tired though, and our kitchen is pretty bare. Maybe I'll find a late-night grocery store and do some stocking up.”
“So you're telling me,” Jensen said, climbing into the passenger seat of her SUV, “that at this time of night, you're going to drive around Vancouver trying to find an open grocery store?”
“I'll GPS it,” Boden laughed. “You make it sound like I'm navigating the Bermuda Triangle.”
“I've seen your navigation skills, so you might as well be,” Jensen replied. “We need some stuff for the bachelor pad anyway. I'll go with you.”
Boden shrugged. “Okay, but I have a long list.”
Jensen assured her it was fine, and helped her find her way to the store. They parked close to the front door, got one cart to share, then got to shopping.
Since they had been around each other so much over the last few weeks, Boden could feel herself becoming more comfortable around Jensen. She enjoyed his company and actually liked being on set. More than once he had given her some help with her article notes, and he always made sure she was comfortable while she was on the lot with him.
“Did you and Addy come to Vancouver to find me and Misha?” Jensen asked, out of the blue.
Boden shrugged. “Not necessarily for you two specifically. After we got turned down from the managers and whatnot, we thought maybe if we relocated here for a while, we would have a greater chance of getting our article. Just worked out that we saw you moving into Misha’s.”
“Worked out for both of us, I guess.”
Boden nodded and crossed off some produce items from her list. “Oh, I need chocolate chips.”
“Making cookies?”
“I could,” Boden said, “but I've had a hankering for banana chocolate chip pancakes.”
Jensen tilted his head. “That's a thing?”
“Hell yes it's a thing!” Boden laughed. “Be at my place for breakfast sometime, Ackles. These pancakes will change your world.”
“Guess I'll have to wake up at your place one of these days then.”
He said it almost without thinking, and more flirtatiously than he intended for it to come out. It stopped both of them in their tracks; Jensen with a blush tainting his cheeks and Boden with wide, shocked eyes.
“Sorry, Bo, I didn't mean …”
She recovered and cleared her throat. “No, it's fine. We can joke around. No big deal.”
They moved on in silence for a while longer, each one picking things off the shelves here and there. Boden was beginning to feel the tension of the awkward silence, so she ventured into more personal territory.
“What happened with you and Lindsey, anyway?”
Jensen turned to look at her. “You really want to know?”
“Yes,” Boden frowned. She wouldn't have asked otherwise. Then, she realized why he was asking. “I'm asking off the record, Jay. Not for the article.”
“First time you've called me anything other than Jensen,” he smiled, taking over pushing the cart. “Me and Lindsey -- we started out pretty well, actually. We met in Seattle, and hit it off right away. The whole spotlight deal though, that was never something she could get used to. After Charlotte left Misha for someone else, she told Lindsey how great it was being away from the Supernatural crowd. Fans, cast, crew, the whole shebang. So Lindsey split.”
Boden reached over to squeeze his arm. “I'm sorry she walked out on you. You're a good guy, and you deserve better.”
Jensen waited while she picked out a couple boxes of cereal. “You mean that?”
“I do,” Boden confirmed, putting the boxes in the cart. “And I know a good man when I see one.”
“Let me guess. You've got a really great guy back home, just waiting for this whole thing with you and I to be done?”
She laughed. “Not at all. My ‘great guy’ and I were together for five years. He proposed, I said yes. Then, on the night of our rehearsal dinner, I caught him in the bathroom with my now ex-best friend.”
“Ouch,” Jensen winced.
“Yeah,” Boden sighed. “That was just a year ago or so. You and I are the closest thing to dating I've tried since then.”
Jensen reached for her hand. “You deserve better too, you know.”
“Thanks,” Boden said.
His hand fell away from hers, and Boden found herself wishing he had hung on a little longer.
“What do you say we get this shopping done, then I'll take you somewhere with the best burgers in Vancouver?”
“I say that sounds like an excellent plan.” She was never one to turn down a good cheeseburger.
The cold items were going to have to hang on for a while; the two of them sat in the parking lot of Jensen’s and Misha’s apartment, downing some of the tastiest burgers Boden had ever indulged.
“Wow, don’t play it cool and take small bites or anything,” Jensen laughed when he saw Boden with a cheekful of cheeseburger.
She swallowed the large bite and took a long sip of her soda. “I do not play about barbecue bacon cheeseburgers, Jensen Ackles. This is delicious!”
“I told you,” he replied before biting into his own cheeseburger. “Lindsey would never have eaten cheeseburgers in a parking lot with me. Actually, in the few years we were together, I’m going to guess we didn’t even eat cheeseburgers together a handful of times.”
“That’s a sad story,” Boden teased, then said, seriously, “Unless you appreciated the fact that she didn’t eat like a dude, in which case I apologize for my unladylike eating habits.”
Jensen chuckled and wiped some ketchup from the corner of her mouth. “I’d take your cheeseburger hamster cheeks over Lindsey’s fine tastes any day, Bo.”
It was another moment that caught them both off-guard. Boden knew if he kept saying things like that, she was going to start believing him -- or, worse, wanting him to say those things. Jensen knew if he didn’t watch his mouth, Boden was going to think he was trying to actually make her his rebound after Lindsey, and that certainly wasn’t the case. He wasn’t trying to do anything but hold up his end of the bargain, but these little comments kept slipping off his tongue. He couldn't help but add one more comment before deciding to watch his mouth.
“Also, for the record, your ex was an idiot to cheat on and lose a woman who will eat cheeseburgers with that enthusiasm at two in the morning.”
Boden could help the blush that painted her cheeks as she giggled. “Well thank you, sir.”
They finished their cheeseburgers and sodas, and Jensen gathered the trash to throw away in the dumpster around the building. Boden walked with him, and they made small talk about the schedule the next day.
“You should sleep in a little,” Jensen offered. “Or at least come with us in the morning then go back to sleep in my trailer. We’re not shooting anything exciting first thing.”
“I might take you up on that,” she sighed. “I really am getting used to this schedule, but some extra sleep never hurt anyone.”
They fished out his grocery bags from the back of the SUV, and Boden helped him carry a couple up to the apartment. The place was dark; Jensen mentioned that it was weird that Misha wasn’t around.
“Maybe he and Addy are getting it on at our place,” Boden joked. Jensen raised a brow at her, causing her to laugh. “Don’t get any ideas, Ackles. This is a business arrangement, I’ll remind you.”
“Oh, in that case, I’ll rescind my offer of letting you sleep in my trailer tomorrow morning.”
“No!” Boden whined. “The couch in your trailer is actually amazingly comfortable.”
Jensen pulled her against his chest in a strong hug. “Keep giving me those puppy dog eyes, I’m just going to give the whole trailer over to you. Come on, I’ll walk you back down to your car.”
They walked side by side out to the SUV, and Jensen made sure Boden was safely inside before closing the door. He leaned against the open window and smiled.
“I really enjoyed hanging out with you tonight, Bo. Thanks for keeping me company.”
She smiled. “I had a good time. Thanks for showing me around the grocery store and cheeseburger scene.”
“See you in the morning, kid.”
Boden waved as she pulled away, trying to ignore the floating-on-air feeling she was currently experiencing. She reminded herself of what she had told Jensen: it was just a business agreement. Everything he said was more than likely a product of getting over Lindsey, and she was just the girl he was currently spending time with.
Her concern over her own feelings was completely surpassed when she saw Adeline and Misha asleep together on the couch in the girls’ apartment. Boden hadn’t seen a man escape an apartment so quick as Misha did, and she couldn’t wait to settle in to hear the story of Adeline’s evening.
When her friend wrapped up her story and asked how Boden’s night had been, Boden was sure to downplay the significance of her time with Jensen.
