I don't know a lot about the Ouran anime or the Tamaki guy. What is he doing in Adrien's mind? Is this a reference I don't get?

(The Tamaki headcanon is that Adrien is confirmed to like anime, and Chat Noir acts a lot like the character Tamaki Suoh from Ouran Highschool Host Club. Hence the fandom collectively agreed that Adrien watched the anime when he was younger and based his superhero persona on how Tamaki acts. It's pretty great.)

Easter Eggs/references from Kiss Kiss Fall in Portal

I wanted one place where all of this was together so I'm putting it together. I was hooked when I saw that the episode title itself was a reference to Ouran Highschool Host Club. I primarily enjoy DC content through their animated works, please let me know if I'm missing something from the comics, live action, or something else.

First we get Superman from Earth-F aka Superman from the Fleischer Superman Theatrical Shorts(1941–1943) (Mxy calls it Earth 12, this seems to be a typo in the script as Earth 12 is the MAwS earth and mentions that earth just before in the list, or there are multiple Earth 12s.)

Then we get Superman from Earth 50 aka Superman from Super Friends (1973-1985)

Then we get Superman from Earth 508 aka Superman from Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000)/ Justice League (2001-2004) / Justice League Unlimited (2004-2006)

Then the final Superman from this scene Superman from Weird Earth. I think this is first instance of this kind of variation with superman as doing a quick search links the DC character 'The Weird' But I also love when multiverse productions just do weird and silly versions of things (looking at you hot dog hands Everything Everywhere All at Once)

Our next batch of References is to and to the League of Lois Lanes, founded by Lois Prime, the first Lois to discover (and based on how she is talked about communicate and or travel to other universes). Our introduction to them has he League of Loises asking Lois lane and Jimmy Olsen of Earth 12 to come with them. While discussing the situation The League of Loises tell us that Earth 12 was a previously unknown universe to them (until Monsieur Mallah and the Brain opened it up last episode) and Mr. Mxyzptlk has used that opportunity to get MAwS Superman to help them. (We know that the League of Lois Lanes has lied to our MAwS Lois and Jimmy, and that Lois Prime didn't trust everyone. The very foundation of the organization could be fabricated to some degree as they all could be considered unreliable narrators but I can't see why they'd like about that big of world building so for now I'm taking that exposition as is). Lois Prime is also always refereed to in the past tense so we as the audience are supposed to assume she's dead.

For the Time Being I'm not going to discuss the League memebers as I am trying to just focus on the easter eggs (or so I told myself) But in the credits they are listed without an earth number and as Leader Lois; Grizzled Lois Lane; Robotic Lois; Lewis Lane; Jalana Olsen

Here are the images we get of Lois Prime. She appears to also be from the Fleischer Superman Theatrical Shorts(1941–1943) just with the art style blended a bit with MAwS.

The next batch of references are the ones from the museum, which is said to be on earth prime.

First we get some establishing shots with a Big Mace (Thanagarian Mace) aka Hawkgirl's next to a Mother Box. This version of the mother box is based on Jack Kirby & Mike Royer's design.

The Next Establishing shot we see a green lantern Power Battery, a T-Sphere, and a leather bound book with a that has a circle with a triangle in it. I'm just not sure what it is. The Book of Black does have a circle with a triangle on it, but it's black so I figure it's probably not that.

Then we have Mxy and Superman enter and Mxy drops the act and admits he just wants to steal and knocks off a golden helmet. The gold helmet that is Doctor Fate's Helmet. Then in the background we have some metal objects, a sword, and a blue cloak. The silver and gold metal objects could be shields, but there's just not enough details for me to sink my teeth into looking deeper. The sword is very generic, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Excalibur as that shows up from time to time. Another Option could be the Vorpal Sword as its in the same display case with a blue cloak which could be Blue Boy's Witching Cloak. Though its also possible to be Raven's Cloak, or anyone who used a blue cloak.

Next are named objects by Mxy Cosmic Rod aka Stargirl's staff.

And the Flight Ring aka Legioneer flight ring. In the background we can also see Wonder Woman's gauntlets as well as her lasso of truth. The flight ring also blocks the view of a triangle on a staff as well as some metal tubes.

Then Mxy Passes by the Soultaker Sword (The Katana) before grabbing the tape recorder he came for and that's the last of any clear objects in the museum.

Then we get a cute bonding moment with Jimmy and Jalana where she shows off meeting Comet the Super-Horse.

While that happens Earth-12 MAwS Lois sneaks into the locked room to see files on other Loises. The first we see is Lois Lane from Earth-52 who's an award winning reporter.

Then we see Lois Lane from Earth-24. She's sporting a key to the city, but with her style of fashion is very kingdom hearts. They even have the detail of using one of Utada Hikari's hairstyles for her as has been done for Kairi.

Then we get the last computer file Lois Lane from Earth-1 who is "Ready to meet with Dad" I personally think this is another foreshadowing moment that in this iteration of the characters her dad is going to be "The General" that we saw back in episode 2.

Next bit we get is the meet up in Earth 14, which could have them landing in an uninhabited area, or it could be fully desolate. While everyone else is there Mxy steals the ship with Earth-12 MAwS Lois and go Headquarters. The entrance of Headquarters has holograms of several Loises.

The front most Lois lanes we get include Lois from Earth-F aka from the Fleischer Superman Theatrical Shorts(1941–1943) (just like the first other Superman we saw). And across from her we get the another Lois paired with one of the other Superman we saw. Lois Lane from Earth 508 from Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000)/ Justice League (2001-2004) / Justice League Unlimited (2004-2006)

Next to Lois Lane from Earth 508 we see a Lois Lane as Superwoman.

Next to Lois Lane from Earth-F we see a woman with a Hijab and Labcoat. There are 3 more holograms on this side of the hall, but we don't get a close up and the other Loises.

We do get a few more details of the others as Mxy and Lois of MAwS walk through the hall. We see one black woman and an indigenous woman.

The Last bit of HQ potential Easter Eggs we get is this shot of Mxy opening storage for weapons. However, if they are references I think they're to things outside of DC. The biggest sword in there is Gut's sword from Beserk. I would love to hear from people if they recognize any of these objects. I'm going to make a second post focusing on just that shot here.

The the last ones we get are Lois reviewing the Superman File X

The first Superman we see doesn't have any kind of chest logo is Overman from Earth 17

The second Superman with white cape is Superman is a villainous Justice Lord called Lord Superman.

The Last Superman we see with the face scar doesn't seem to have any counter part so my money is he's a Superman from one of the League of Loises Earths.

I'm really enjoying My Adventures with Superman. The team seems to really get what a Superman story is supposed to be about and how there is supposed to be fun and love in it. I do wish we could have a longer season because the pace is just so fast and it would be nice to settle in. But that's a bigger issue with the industry right now with studios ordering seasons to be short mini series instead of the traditional 26, but that's a conversation for another post and not a reflection of the team making the show.

Also, if the siblings have chemistry, they have chemistry. I ship Kaoru and Hikaru. They are twins. I don't ship them because they're twins ( nothing wrong with people who do as long as you don't condone incest irl ) I ship them because it's incredibly obvious that they want to kiss so badly.

The amount of antis in the ohshc fandom actually baffles me- How are you even here when there's canonical twincest AND a shouta character? Who- mind you- is romantically paired with is caretaker who is also his COUSIN. Like it's not even implied, they explicitly state it when he rejects another girl's feelings in one episode. Tamaki refers to himself as Haruhi's father BECAUSE he's in denial of his feelings for her. And Kyoya is basically exploiting the host club members by selling pictures of them to the girls. Like??

Hold up, is the newest My Adventures With Superman episode title a reference to Ouran Highschool Host Club??

I watched the latest episode of My Adventures with Superman, and that Mr. Mxyzpytlk has me wondering. He’s supposed to be a 5th dimensional imp, and that could mean he transcends time, which should mean that regardless of what 4th dimensional universe he shows up in he’s the same guy. Given that an entire League of Loises has to team up to (temporarily) imprison him, that seems to be the intention, but why does he look and act so different from usual? Is he just doing that specifically to fit in with the MAwS aesthetic? And why is his attitude so different from other appearances? I suppose it could be that we’re simply seeing him at a different point in his life, which given he’s unbound by our concept of time means we can see younger or older versions of him in seemingly random order.

Of course, it could also be that DC’s 5th dimension also has alternate universes and each Superman deals with his own version of Mr. Mxyzptlk. Of course, that also means that this one probably isn’t the one native to MAwS since he apparently just escaped to that universe due to Mallah and Brain, which then leads to the question of what kind of universe he came from? A lot of questions that probably will not be answered, but, hey, unanswered questions are part of the fun sometimes.

Oh, also, I saw that Ouran Highschool Host Club reference in the title and frickin’ guffawed.

and ALSO LIKE I HAVE SO MANY MUCH OURAN THOUGHTS I CANT FUCKING FOcus especially referring to the shojo weasley twins auughh i have this one thats been eating at me for awhile.. (ive been really wanting to write a fic about it actually) cause i was reading up on codependent attachment styles and the more extreme ways they can manifest, particularly when things start getting delusional, and i started thinking like. kaoru and hikarus issues dont just solely stem from codependency, they literally never had a solid identity of their own. the whole "pretending to be the other" thing they do particularly irked me; they were each others shadow, so one of them couldnt even define their personality as separate through being "less than" or "the unnoticed twin" or something. they might as well have been one whole person to the outside world right? so like, how long before someone starts believing its completely true? like literally true. that this one person you are so desperately, suffocatingly tied to might as well have been yourself? and more importantly, what would happen if one day that person disappeared? what you would be left with, psychologically? would you start believing that you ARE that person now that theyre gone? or maybe not even that theyre really gone per say, youve just become them, or theyve become you? just to cope with the loss? and everyone would believe that youre actually them too, only reinforcing the delusion... you and your other half were identical, afterall.

okay its a really dark and angsty concept but like i live for the angst and im so so interested in the idea of them being separated for like excruciatingly long due to some really dire circumstances, maybe before they meet the host club? or maybe in this au im coming up with on the spot they never join the club at all? so theyre even MORE vulnerable to the consequences of something like this happening, and the need for the other steadily increases until they reach like a breaking point. what would that breaking point be? if/when they reunited, how unhealthy would the new anxious foundation for that relationship become? How possessive and/or protective would they get over each other and their shared identity as exclusively a couple? how scared would they be to even acknowledge themselves as individuals? how would their individual reactions differ? (i have A LOT of ideas but id love to know your thoughts) AND HOW FUCKING CATHARTIC WOUDL IT BE, IF AFTER ALL THAT, THEY GROW TOGETHER OUT OF THAT DARK PLACE?? THROUGH A STEADY JOURNEY OF LOVE AND HARDSHIP??? AND THEN JOIN THE HOST CLUB STARTING OUT AS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DYNAMIC??? OKAOKAY secondly...i also live for angst and exploring psychological effects n stuff which is a big part of why i love the twins' interactions. they are so mentally unwell it is insane.

I DO really like your commentary on how they are "each others shadow" because that is SO true. I know a lot of people portray kaoru as thinking he is "lesser" than hikaru and while i do think that's true, i think it's also true that kaoru knows (at least, until things started changing in highschool) that both of them were equally needed to "create" one person, at least that's how he viewed it. he specifically said "the one who isn't me is hikaru, and the one who isn't hikaru is me", implying the only difference between them was this undefinable trait of simply...they aren't the same person just because they have two different physical bodies. of course deep down they know they are different, at least kaoru does, but idk if they even realize how different they are. after all, being confused for another person your whole life and being interchangeable would fuck up anybody's self perception. in my personal opinion/theory, its only after the host club starts and differences between them become more noticable to the point not only themselves but the outside world, little by little, can start actually ascribing concrete and tangible traits to "hikaru" and "kaoru". I think it's at that point kaoru begins to think he's the "lesser" twin, or whatever.

anywho, BIG fan of the idea of one of them going missing/dead/etc etc and it affecting the mental health of the other big time. i've read multiple fics where one of the twins dies and the other twin just completely loses it, even begins to assume the identity of the dead twin as some sort of coping mechanism. it's horribly fucked up but that's what makes it so interesting.

what's interesting is, i have two different stories i wrote (well one at least, the other exists just in my head sigh) and in both of them, one of the twins either dies or is missing, and the effect leads the other twin to adopt more traits from their sibling.

to elaborate, i wrote a short story (less of a story, more of a whole premise post, you can find it on this blog it was to an ask i responded to) where kaoru passed due to taking his own life, and hikaru was left to pick up the pieces of that. the situation left him to be more introverted, secluded, and quiet, much like kaoru was. this included even picking up traits of his unknowingly, like blocking the world out by reading, something hikaru never really did but kaoru did a lot.

on the other hand, i have a fic i might write.....maybe.....some day.....where kaoru is forced to enroll in a different school separate from hikaru, and this includes living away from hikaru in a different estate (idk why their parents prob caught them engaging in incest who fucking knows with these two. do they know what they do in that club. surely they cant be cool with it). anyways, kaoru, feeling lost, scared, and indignant about being forcibly separated from hikaru and in an unfamiliar house, begins acting rude, snappy, and irritable. first day at the new school all he does is get in trouble with teachers and other students for being rude and instigating fights. he basically becomes full of raw emotions that he doesn't know how to handle and just. rages at people. kind of like hikaru would.

idk, i just think its an interesting concept, esp if their behavioral changes are not intentional and it just sort of...happens. could be a coping thing, who knows.

ughhh your concept tho..........exquisite. it reminds me of a fic i was writing here that....i need to finish.......where kaoru gets critically injured via an attempt on his life by someone and hikaru goes ballistic. but, taking that a step further, if something happened to one of the twins or they were, like u said, separated for a long time, i cannot IMAGINE how they would act once together again. somehow even more clingy and protective of one another i'd assume. hikaru would be very loud and obvious with how controlling and worried he is, just wanting to keep kaoru by his side 24/7, while kaoru i think would be quieter, just...silently following hikaru everywhere, being overtly anxious and voicing concerns over things that could go wrong all the time, generally not letting him leave his sight. the co dependency is real....

3. What ideas come from when you were little

rather than saying any specific ideas came from when i was a kid, i think,... there are tropes that i still love and draw on and can credit to some of the things i read and watched as a kid. one big example is hidden identities - my most trope ever - all has a big basis on some of my earliest Media Memories, like detective conan, danny phantom, ouran high school host club, alex rider, and so on ahsdg

i had a really big mob pscyho fic i wrote 30k on in 2019... don't know if i'll ever circle back to write the rest. there's been countless comic projects that i started and dropped over the years as well...

as for illustrations i have a number of half-started DP illustrations that may or may not ever be finished 🤷‍♂️

sooooooo many pencils. 20+? in highschool and most of uni i was really picky about using fancy HB, 2H and 4H pencils for all my sketchbook work but at a certain point i started preferring mechanical pencils

i don't know about Everyone, but comics/sequential art, maybe? pacing can be quite difficult but it's a challenge i really enjoy conveying on the page.

anything creepy crawly horror EHehehehe also anything papercraft, multi-media-y.... or like, super solid pen-and-ink. fine lines, black and white, that sort of thing

if i remember i try to stretch my wrists 💀

ye!! whatever's needed at the time. i'm fond of multiply layers with purple ink for shading.

oh, yep, stock images are actually one of my favorite sources for references outside of pose-specific reference resources like line-of-action, adorkaStock, etc. but stock photos (specifically sites like Pexels) are great for locations, perspective, animals, inanimate objects, or if i don't know exactly what i'm looking for

26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended

i'm not sure this has happened to me to that degree? like there's definitely been minor differences in interpretations when it comes to my comics (dialogue doesn't always land or imply what i intended) but i don't think i've ever had something taken wildly differently

27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with

i don't normally, but if i do, it's usually standard sketchbook randomness - heads, hands, shapes, squiggles, objects around the room. the cats...

One day while heading home from school, he gets involved in a fight between an alien and his classmate Sho Tenkubashi, who is secretly a member of a secret police division that handles alien affairs. He is soon invited to join the special police force, known as the AMO.

Plot

The plot and writing isn’t anything particularly special, but I do enjoy it! It feels a lot like an average battle manga with a sprinkle of bl mixed in (even if this series technically isn’t bl). One thing this manga is good at is setting up mysteries for the reader to anticipate learning more about. I’m excited to discover more about these plot points in future chapters. Overall, it’s definitely solid, but doesn’t stand out that much in the vast sea of battle manga.

Characters

For most of the story, we follow Akira Gunji. He’s a bit meek, but he has a strong sense of justice and a kind heart. One thing I like about him is that he’s a pretty normal person. If he finds himself in a battle that he knows he can’t win on his own, he will run or stall for time. If something traumatizing happens to him (and trust me, it will many times), he will react appropriately. If somebody else is being a complete weirdo, he will acknowledge it. This makes him a good “straight man”, which pairs well with the more eccentric Tenkubashi.

Sho Tenkubashi is Gunjis partner in battle (and maybe more tbh). He’s stoic and a bit of an oddball. He has been a member of the AMO ever since he and his sister were involved in an alien attack as children. As he and Gunji become closer, he becomes dedicated to ensuring his safety for a multitude of reasons. The most important reason is quite interesting, but I will not spoil that reason here.

Reiji Amamiya is the AMO Kanto branches special riot police supervisor. He’s cheerful and laidback on the surface, but is actually very manipulative and cunning. He has been watching over Tenkubashi since he was young and was the one to recruit Gunji into the force. At this point, his favorite hobby seems to be traumatizing children. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding his character which I am looking forwards to learning more about.

Raika Nadeshiko is an illegal alien (in the literal sense) that is wanted by the AMO. She is childish and is also a bit of a trickster. She’s quite fond of Gunji and likes to mess with him. I feel as if the plot surrounding her isn’t written very well. Things happen very conveniently and suddenly. They try to play it off as humorous but it just doesn’t land with me.

The last character I want to mention isn’t the most important to the story, but there’s something about them I want to bring up. This character is Christina, a general supervisor and operator of the technology department of AMO. While Christina is not referred to being any specific gender (which is why I am using ‘they’ right now), I feel as if they are a not so positive stereotype of a transgender woman or drag queen. From the outfit, to some actions that come off as predatory, to comments about their voice and appearance being “alien”, it just rubs me the wrong way. The treatment of them both by how they’re framed by the story and by other characters reminds me a bit of Ouran highschool host club, just minus the blatant slurs. Christina isn’t that important of a character so it’s not that prevalent, but keep this in mind if this makes you uncomfortable seeing.

Art

The art in this series is fantastic! I am especially fond of how fluid and just straight up cool looking the fight scenes are. The aliens in particular are designed very well and it’s always a treat to see them. One smaller aspect that I enjoy a lot is how line weight is used. It just tickles my brain. I also really like how they draw faces and expressions, particularly Tenkubashis.

Overall thoughts

This series is quite enjoyable. However, as mentioned prior, the only things that make this series stand out from other action series is the sci-fi elements, the phenomenal art, and the unapologetic sprinklings of bl. If you’re not into that, then you might be better off spending your time on a different series.

So I've been having a major major One Piece brainrot these past few weeks after watching the Netflix live action show and because I fell in love with Sanji, I had to make an OC to pair with him.

Name: Amarylla "Ruby Shark" Yuna

Age: 20 (pre-timeskip); 22 (post-timeskip)

Eye Color: Pale pink (turns red during combat mode, annoyed, or angered; turns completely black in "bloodthirsty" mode)

Hobbies: Reading, journaling & sketching, mingling with the crew, meditating

Personality: Initially guarded (and maybe a little rude and blunt) but becomes undoubtedly devoted and caring to her friends (to the point of being recklessly self-sacrificial). Reserved, quiet, and a little shy overall but becomes a lot more expressive and confident in post-timeskip. Is surprisingly vulgar when annoyed or during combat.

Powers & Skills:

Blood Manipulation:

Can transform her blood into weapons. Learns how to form shields and a full-body armor in post-timeskip.

The armor enhances her offensive and defensive skills, augmenting her strength and speed, and is impervious to bullets. Is also able to swim - even in seawater - with the armor on, as long as it is equipped in time and she is not already in a weakened state.

Can manipulate properties of her blood to change into water, poison, or healing salve that remedies cuts, infections, and bruises.

Some "flight" capability by literally lifting herself up using her blood inside her.

+ Regenerative healing factor. Accelerated with blood consumption.

+ Can sense other's movements and positions by hearing their heartbeats and blood flow.

+ Favors long-ranged attacks (like spears) but becomes accustomed to close-ranged attacks in post-timeskip.

Weaknesses:

Use of her abilities is extremely draining and requires an ample amount of rest to recuperate. Her endurance and stamina however significantly improve during the timeskip from extensive training (though she may still require a few-hour nap after a particularly long battle).

Too much damage to her amor or overexertion can eventually make it crack and shatter.

Must feed on blood at least once on a weekly basis otherwise she'll go into her "bloodthirsty" mode.

Strong negative emotions - particularly rage - can trigger her "bloodthirsty" mode, causing her to go feral with an overconsuming need to kill indiscriminately.

Sensitive to loud noises.

The usual Devil Fruit weakness to seawater (unless she is protected by her amor).

Trivia:

Yuna's name comes from the name Ayuna which means "blood; red." Yuna by itself means "superiority, gentleness; kindness."

Her surname Amarylla comes from the flower amaryllis, which comes from the Greek word "amarysso" meaning "to sparkle," referring to Yuna's eyes which are described to sparkle like stars. The flower symbolizes determination, beauty, love, and success.

Her post-timeskip outfit design is inspired by Yor's assassin dress in Spy x Family and A2 from NiER: Automata. Her ribbon look is inspired by Bayonetta.

Her armor design is inspired by the Berserker armor in Berserk, Garchomp, Iron Man, Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Man suit, and Dracula's armor in the 1992 Gary Oldman film.

Her character is inspired by Kaine (NiER), Marina (Fear & Hunger 2), Asa & War Devil (Chainsaw Man), Tifa (Final Fantasy VII), Haruhi (Ouran Highschool Host Club), Makoto Niijima (Persona 5), Raven (Teen Titans), and Female Robin (Fire Emblem: Awakening)
