1. Introduction
As modern software and files grow larger, managing disk space effectively becomes crucial. This guide offers practical steps and tips to reclaim disk space on your Windows 10 computer, ensuring it runs smoothly and efficiently.
2. Understanding Disk Space Usage
Before freeing up space, it’s essential to understand how your disk space is being used. Navigate to Settings > System > Storage to view a detailed breakdown. This will help identify which areas need attention.
3. Utilizing Built-in Windows Tools
Disk Cleanup
Windows 10 features a built-in Disk Cleanup tool designed to delete unnecessary files. To access it:
Type “Disk Cleanup” in the search bar and select the app.
Choose the drive you want to clean.
Select the file types to delete (e.g., temporary files, system cache).
Storage Sense
Storage Sense automates disk cleanup. To enable it:
Go to Settings > System > Storage.
Toggle on Storage Sense and configure settings to regularly delete temporary files.
4. Uninstalling Unnecessary Applications
Unused applications take up significant space. To uninstall them:
Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
Review the list and uninstall non-essential programs.
5. Managing Temporary and Cached Files
Temporary files can quickly accumulate and consume disk space. Use Disk Cleanup or third-party tools to regularly clear these files. Browsers also store cached data, which can be cleared from the browser settings.
6. Cleaning Up System Files
Windows Update Cleanup
Old update files can take up substantial space. Disk Cleanup includes an option to remove these:
Open Disk Cleanup and select Clean up system files.
Choose Windows Update Cleanup.
System Restore and Shadow Copies
System Restore points and shadow copies can consume significant disk space. Manage these by:
Typing “System Protection” in the search bar.
Selecting the drive and clicking Configure.
Adjusting the Max Usage slider to limit space usage.
7. Using Third-Party Disk Cleaners
Third-party tools like CCleaner provide more comprehensive cleaning options. They can remove junk files, clean registries, and manage startup programs to free up space.
8. Handling Large Files and Folders
Identifying and managing large files is crucial. Use tools like WinDirStat to find large files and folders. Consider moving non-essential large files to external storage.
9. Moving Data to External Storage
Free up space by moving data such as videos, photos, and documents to external hard drives or USB sticks. Ensure you regularly back up important data to avoid loss.
10. Using Cloud Storage Solutions
Cloud storage services like OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox offer substantial space. Move infrequently accessed files to the cloud to save local disk space.
11. Conclusion
Regular maintenance and mindful storage practices can keep your Windows 10 system running efficiently. Use the tips and tools outlined in this guide to manage and optimize your disk space effectively.

reminder to open your laptop and give the fans a clean. seriously. overheating is a big contributor to early laptop death and clogged fans will kill your computer very fast. if you don't know how:
1) find a tutorial for removing the backing plate of your specific computer model (usually on the computer near the screen or the trackpad, or on the underside of the computer) on YouTube or another platform
2) locate your fans. they will look different for every model, but usually they're near where the vent on the side of your computer is. some computers have a big easy to locate fan, some have just a little vent. watch your video, or Google "[laptop model] maintenance manual" and see if it's labeled in the manual somewhere
3) use a soft paintbrush (NOTE: not compressed air!!! spinning the fan when the computer isn't on can damage your computer. only use compressed air if you can hold the fan still while you spray) to gently dust away any crap that's stuck in the fan. also check the vents on the underside and side of your computer for physical blockages and dust those away too
4) enjoy a computer that doesn't overheat as fast!

Spring Break means PCs, LPs and something else
Spring Break means PCs, LPs and something else
I’m back. Actually, I didn’t go anywhere, but because last week I pretty much just recorded communication between Juls and I there isn’t much of a record. Oh well. I basically spent all of last week moving music from my LPs to CD & MP3 and setting up my Sony laptop to take over PC duties for the desktop. I’m a little excited about that project. I had to clear off a bunch of stuff (more about that…

now that the game is in maintenance, I'll let it be known that I will not post any spoilers once dawntrail is live. I will not discuss or reblog anything dealing with dawntrail here on tumblr. my queue is filled with non-dawntrail stuff and will continue to run, and I will respond to non-dawntrail tag and ask games as normal
another thing I want to address is that I may or may not be able to play dawntrail with my current desktop. my prebuilt is roughly 6 years old with outdated parts (ryzen 5 1400 cpu, rx 560 2GB vram gpu, HDD, most likely one stick of 8GB ram). the benchmark didn't inspire confidence in me that my computer will play the expansion smoothly, but I'm holding out hope that as long as I turn down some settings it'll be manageable
if I see that I can't run the game to point things turn into a slideshow I will let it be known, but I hope this isn't the case. I've been gathering components for a new pc this year but it'll most likely not be done until christmas, so if I can't play alongside the rest of you I'll have to spend the next 6 months on the sidelines

I did maintenance on my PC for the first time. Was scary to open it up and be unsure if I would brick it completely without even noticing. Changed the coolant, replaced the thermal paste, brushed off the fan blades, and blew out the dust.
It’s been working better since I did it, so I must’ve not done anything horribly wrong at least. It’s a customized build at least 6 years old that I bought from some dude who wanted to start a new build, so it was a little over due.
I think I’m gonna try to have a little more confidence in myself. And change the fluid more regularly cause that stuff looked HORRIBLE.

People I was expecting to post something at least for the next week but it seems my luck is worst than I thought.
Since monday here it's been raining non stop and we lost power monday and tuesday so that was bad.
And today I take my pc to maintenance, cause there was a discount and were is a discount I'm there, anything to spend less money, so I will not have my pc for the weekend so I will probably die.
But yeah I guess I will not be posting as much as I wanted for the Boblin Week wich shame on me 😩😩😩
So this is me telling you my sad excuses... What to do know without my pc, someone pls play the smallest violin in the world for me 😔😔😔

I have a problem.
I give money to some charities. They solicit additional funds in response (charity spam) and attempt to guilt me into succumbing by sending me gifts such as cards.
I can't just throw these out. They're useful. But they... accrue.
Would anyone like to assist me with this backload/receive a card? You would have to be willing to give me (possibly via google form? or if folks have another suggestion I am willing to hear it) an address to send the card to. I do not require a real name. One or more preferred theme(s) from the below list, and/or content for the card, would be nice but not required. I do have international stamps, so there is no country restriction.
Themes:
-birds
-flora
-loud
-cute
-thank you
-birthday
-winter
-non-denominational Christmas
You can also request these on a delay, we'll see how that goes (my family is not reliable about the post).
