my mum keeps responding to my covid precautions with “i get it, you’re not ready yet”. like no i just don’t do them anymore. i don’t really need to eat at restaurants or go to crowded places or be in public without an n95. i can watch the movie at home. i can get take out. an n95 is just uncomfortable sometimes but doesn’t stop me from doing anything. i love not getting sick

#SOOOOOO glad i moved out #‘your sibling and i are going out to eat’ have fun! i actually have no desire to do that whatsoever #also both of them have brought covid home and I’ve clocked it every time #my mum’s was after a trip after i moved out where she didn’t wear a mask once (not even at the airport) and then spent the trip texting me #about how the rich food was giving her some stomach trouble and the jet lag was just hitting her so hard #clocked that asap. i think she gave it to everyone else too and then tested after someone else tested positive and got her positive #my sibling was when i was still at home though and they just came downstairs and sat next to me coughing and i have never moved so fast #consistently tested negative so I don’t think they gave it to me but they protested possibly having it until I made my mum test them #and lo and behold I was right! I got pcr tested by urgent care and was negative #i didn’t get the chance to be cautious from the beginning because I was a minor when covid started #but i’m now an adult and moved out and keep all my precautions and tbh I love it #i’m a college student and the only sickness I’ve ever dealt with was an ear infection from a piercing. that’s it #‘don’t you want to embrace your young adult years’ i have two cats and hobbies and love being at home im fine #I don’t want to party or go out or do much of that #coronavirus

Despite being an entomologist, I have plenty of insects that I “hate”, so-to-speak

Not because they’re scary or ugly or anything

It’s because I’ve worked with them and have had to spend time either identifying them to species / sex or culturing them

That being said, I’ll see you in hell rice weevils and psocids

Loved to escape and get everywhere #hate psocids because they were also a pain to maintain. Pair this with most grain louse species looking the same #and their habit of escaping and taking over other cultures they weren’t supposed to be in #ridiculous #gave me allergies too #I can smell a psocid from a mile away and start sneezing #Grain mites are a close third. Mainly because identifying them is a pain and they show up where they shouldn’t be #and they mess with my PCR tests >:[#I’ll never eat rice krispies again #I feel like every entomologist has at least one insect they have a vendetta against #usually it’s the one they study

i still mask because i have conditions that share symptoms with covid, and i cant afford to get tested (rapid test or pcr) every time i have a single symptom (also covid spreads when your asymptomatic, i dont want to spread illness when im feeling fine either)

And just in case you or anyone else that sees this isn't aware, I would encourage you to reach out to your local mask bloc and/or covid action group to inquire if they have any free rapid tests (and free masks) that they're able to give out!

Free PCR testing for the public should be a right though regardless, so I encourage everyone to sign this petition to Congress and the CDC, urging them to 1) make free PCR tests available for all, and to 2) demand the CDC to get back to tracking and reporting COVID transmission.

Well, it's been a hell of a couple of weeks, and one of many things that happened is that I ended up coming home from Urgent Care looking rather like fruit being packed up for long distance shipping.

I got pretty scraped up when I fell while hiking nearly a month ago. Then I got significantly better... and then I got a whole lot worse.

If you would like to avoid some truly disgusting and painful wounds, you should know that you are likely to develop an allergy to Neosporin if you use it for multiple weeks (and probably the same goes for other brands of over-the-counter antibiotic ointments, I'm guessing).

#in better news #my parents and I successfully moved my grandmother to a retirement home #where she's been on the waiting list for over a year #there's lots left to do still but great progress #and it was hard but went well #and i got my parents each to sign up for some big health treatments they need but have been avoiding thinking about #and i tested positive for covid but it turned out to be a rare false positive #(though that cost us some time with the move while i isolated until i got PCR results)#so yeah overall a hell of a week and a half #also my parents and i rewatched S1 of Ted Lasso #and they were like #'you sure know a lot about this show'#XD #toasty life #contact dermatitis #neosporin allergy #i might be a fruit well-packaged for shipping #op #50

Just the one time lmao and honestly it was a weird situation so it's like 50/50 if he actually got me sick or if my body just got fucked up somehow for no reason ahdjakska

#not really snz but it's like adjacent #no okay let me tell y'all why it was fucking weird bc idk if i shared the details #so he ended up testing positive for flu b at uc #and he fucking got half of us sick and we all went to uc just to make absolutely sure we could assign blame to him #i did not test positive #for fucking anything #like they did the flu covid rsv tests both rapid and pcr #i was literally negative for everything #and the pcr tests have like a 99% accuracy iirc so there's almost no chance it was a false negative #i still think it was bc there's just no fucking way #like all my other coworkers who got sick were also positive for flu b and they weren't around him nearly as much #and same shit when i got sick again like week(?) later i was still negative for everything #like I'm a paranoid bitch i Have to test lmao #and i never got anyone in my house sick so there was that too #i do feel like it was somehow a false negative but if i really was negative then i guess it could've been an allergy thing??#i used to get sinus infections and bronchitis semi frequently bc of them and those have pretty similar symptoms #but i think it's too big of a coincidence that my other coworkers had the flu at the same time i was dying #OH but you know what else is weird is that the same exact thing happened to my dad a few months after me #we thought for sure he had the flu but he was negative for everything and didn't get anyone in the house sick #and that man doesn't know how to keep to himself so there's no way we didn't get exposed #so my dad and i are just built different i guess ahsjkaksk psychosomatic or some shit idk #anyway all this to say is it was schrodinger's sickness LMAO #i still blame him but we'll never know for sure #also he didn't get me sick when he presumably had norovirus so 😌 my immune system kicks ass 😌#my ass included bc of the allergies and possibly autoimmune thing but it also kicks the diseases asses so #can't complain LMAO but yeah he only got me sick just the maybe probably one time #and hopefully never again bc i will Scream and never let him forget lmaoooo #partner posting

And to top it all off, on top of the stress of maybe having Marek’s or Leukosis in my flock, it seems like I caught a cold 😭🤒🤧

Plus, it seems like the unidentified feather picker in my flock is on a rampage - usually, whoever-she-is just eats Jack’s beard and is satisfied, but now Socks is missing half of her beard and Blackbird has bald spots all over her neck! They’re all probably just bored, since it’s been so snowy and cold I haven’t been letting them outside. Looks like I’ll need to get some flock blocks or something.

Anyway, as much as I’m paranoid with worry about my birds, there’s really nothing I can do while I wait for the PCR test kits to arrive. I’ll just have to hunker down and get over this cold (hopefully that’s all it is), time to spend the next few days buried under my new weighted blanket and playing RDR2 I guess.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled chicken pics!
