original callout post is by @menheratic !! if you want more info, please ask them. i am merely reuploading the original callout post of ezaki. please do check out the link of the jp community calling him out in 2019 ^^ https://togetter.com/li/1327770
! The following post talks about the various bad things that Menhera-chan's creator, Ezaki Bisuko, has done.
Here a japanese summary of all the shit he did so far, including but not limited to:
• registering Yamikawaii as trademark
• sending his fans after gyaru YouTuber Usatani to harass her into a suicide attempt over unknowingly buying a shirt with stolen PPG fanart he drew
• himself buying products with stolen art, even promoting their sales, because it’s totally ok when he does it
• the reason why Usatan’s original design was changed aka it was a ripoff of Cult Party’s iconic rabbit mascot that was designed by their artist Maromika-chan
• wrote a whole guide on how to legally get away with sex work as child
• proof of him tracing art for the more detailed MCH artworks
• how he attended the Menhera Exhibit only to smear misogynist bullshit with blood on maxipads
• complaining about how anime for little girls are evil feminist agenda TM because ain’t nobody need men to be saved anymore
• boasting about being a fashion designer only selecting the finest fabrics for his merch when it’s actually made by the japanese equivalent of Redbubble
• “parody” works featuring child characters like Chibi Maruko-chan prostituting themself, the message being all women are whores regardless of age for the right amount of money
• the small “terms and conditions” shield he has at his con booths where you agree that you need to buy anything you touch
• how he setup an earthquake victim fundraiser only to keep the money
• telling his english fans they are not allowed to use any of his art for private use, like as icon, unless they pay him
• how he wants to move to the US when he turns 30 because of all the evil haters TM in Japan
• copyright claiming everyone left and right
• japanese Menhera speaking out about he keeps hurting the community
In regards of the maxi pads:
TW, CW // nooses, misogynistic text in red on maxipads
Tumblr media
Our favorite being the second row second one, “Abortion is murder”.
Some more recent event: When he started harassing and hating on disabled people after Tokyo Fashion translated a Tweet of his because being disabled is discriminating yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s like a trainwreck that refuses to end, now with 100% more crypto on NFT while shitting on those who warn about the dangers.
Tumblr media
His NFT sales can be found here: https://foundation.app/@bisuko_ezaki
For some reason, after 7 years, he also decided to re-release the infamous wrist-cut bracelet to sell at events. The leader of the Neo-Decora group bought one for example:
TW // Bracelet that imitates sh, includes blood
Tumblr media
Also keeps doing collabs with “Tokyo Uragawa” under Yamiko so Seigi (Mental illness is justice), which focuses on self-harming girls as fetish objects.
TW, CW // drawn sh
Tumblr media
Recently, he also wrote a long-article on his definition of Yamikawaii:
https://harajuku-pop.com/67775/
Tumblr media
Still not sure where overseas people got “this is about mental health awareness” from, might be based on mistranslations because the word for mental health and illness is one in the same, and his definition is about glorifying mental illness. In fact, this is why he was banned from Tumblr because he kept posting other people’s self-harm photos to his aesthetic blog Menherabusu.
Next up: Made suicide baiting posts over his following decreasing in the hopes of getting attention, fans sent him photos of cute animals to cheer him up, and he decided to post about destroying the pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tbh, this list could go on forever as he does this kind of bs on an almost daily basis now, but apparently people don’t care enough to stop throwing money at him.
Meanwhile the Japanese community made a whole Wiki for tracking all of his drama considering how much it is by now.
https://ezabisumatome.wiki.fc2.com/
TW // mention of shotacon
Decided to nickname himself Shotabi, the name being a combination of Shotacon and Bisuko, while using nsfw anime edits of male child characters in sexual situations as decor for his selfies.
Tumblr media
𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝:
Is it ok to still like Menhera-chan?
𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫:
Sure, the problem is really only Ezaki himself and his increasing problematic remarks fueled by his ego, the manga is a lot older than him being like that.
Fun fact: Ezaki actually hates Menhera-chan because it's the only thing he ever gets approached for by the media, he constantly rants about this on Twitter. If you have noticed, he barely makes new MCH content anymore (unless he gets paid for it) and mainly reposts old artworks and fanart (without permission) instead because it's the only way he can still get attention as his other works, like the misogynist Manapisu, which is just him hating on women as "dumb wh*res" as a manga, flopped badly.
Just try to not fund his bs by buying new goods.

bliss redesign based off one I made in my teens
thought process + various other bits and bobs under the cut
I was 15 and annoyed by everything that moved when this character first came out, so in my own head I was very much making a Point with this redesign. Hence, I made very minimal changes. I wanted to work with what was already there and basically just make the existing design more thought-through. Little breakdown ahead (keeping in mind i myself am very much An Amateur who doesn’t know shit and am just ranting about my opinions and i also haven’t seen a single second of the 2016 reboot so i don’t know much about Bliss to begin with)
1. one of my Biggest pet peeves with Bliss is that the powerpuff girls each have bangs that are simple, memorable, and iconic while also being unique from each other and being reminiscent of irl little girls hairstyles. It’s very neat and clever and I like it a lot
and then Bliss has this confusing jumble of shapes that looks like it changes in style halfway across her forehead
Tumblr media
i have absolutely no idea what the intent is here. My only guess is maybe it’s meant to look weird on purpose like she was trying to cut it herself or something (I suspect it’s something like that since she seems to have normal looking bangs as a little kid from what I can see) but it doesn’t really come off that way if that’s the case. It just looks like baby’s first PPG OC where you Understand that it’s meant to be hair and that it is made out of shapes but have 0 understanding of hairstyle or character design in general. Heck I might have put this exact hairline on a character in the past at the age of like 8
So in my redesign she’s got 5 even notches across her bangs, not thee most exciting change but it does the job I think. It is pretty reminiscent of Blossom but they look different enough from each other that I wasn’t too worried about it
2. low-hanging fruit time, Bliss’s hair color is horrible on the eyes. I’m bewildered at the decision to do this, especially since there is just so much of it, I struggle to think of how she could exist in any scene without hogging all the viewer’s attention constantly. That said, I understand they wanted her to have an unnatural hair color to really signal that she is a Fresh new Teen character from the late 2010’s, which is. Whatever, that’s fine, so she gets purple hair now. I kept the streak for the same reason, especially since she’s got a lot of hair, so no harm in a little extra interest in there.
I also learned recently that her hair glows sometimes? which i did Not know when first drawing her but well i think the darker color helps anyway. It adds some contrast for when she’s normal vs when she’s glowing and makes the latter appear more,, idk threatening or powerful or whatever the mood generally is when she’s doing that.
I did re-add that toothpaste blue to her eyelids though. I like to think it’s also the color of her lasers. It’s a cute color, just not as like 70% of this character’s palette
3. real talk I was drawing this from memory and didn’t mean to change the way her hair flares out from her head. realistically I think the original is fine, maybe just a little boring but fine, so that part of the redesign was an accident. Only thing is, it’s in the exact same position in every screenshot I’ve seen? It doesn’t seem to whip around when she’s flying or anything which looks weird and probably looks weirder in motion, especially since it takes up so much space onscreen. Idk it’s a strange decision, esp since the original show liked to use the ppg’s hair to emphasize their movement, so I’d just bring more movement into her hair. I mean if nothing else it’d make her look cooler.
very very rough little visual of what I mean
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also ended up making it shorter in my redesign—again, not really intentional, but I think it’s better that it eats up a little less of her silhouette
4. Her headband is largely the same, I didn’t hate the idea of her having an accessory, so I just toned down the colors. I’m not personally a fan of the powder blue and that pink heart is very bright and just doesn’t go with the rest of her (once again the color of her hair is doing it no favors). I also moved the heart over. Not necessarily needed I think, but I feel like it reads quicker as a headband and not a weird crown that way+introduces some asymmetry into her design that I think is nice.
5. my biggest gripe other than her bangs are her hips. I’m not against adding anatomy to this character design to make her read visually as older than the girls, but it’s so awkwardly done and distracting. I feel like it even interferes with her line of action more often than not (which is not helped by her unmoving hair).
Part of the issue is she still has the teeny tiny torso, just… with those square-ish hips slapped on, which makes her legs look all gangly and stretched out. I tried to balance out the proportions more in my redesign, as well as change the hips to a flared skirt. I think it helps differentiate her from the girls and still implies hips underneath, it just also functions as a less clunky transition from her torso to her legs.
Lengthening her torso also allows the stripe to look more like a belt above the skirt, which I think helps to sell her as “similar, but not the same” from the ppg
6. Her leggings(? Idk Im not a fashion person) aren’t a bad idea I think. like a more mature version of the girls’ stockings, but I think the white makes them look really distracting. It would help to make them a darker color I think, but since I wanted to keep them reminiscent of the girls’ socks I kept them white and just shortened them.
7. Not really sure what Bliss is wearing on her feet. I think they’re Mary Janes, but they’re drawn a bit different from the girls’ and I honestly think it’s too babyish a shoe for her to wear. I’m not sure what she’s actually wearing in my redesign either honestly, but the goal was just to make them look like the girls’ Mary Janes while clearly being something different.
8. Uh her signature color is something I’ve contemplated changing a lot but to be real I think it’s fine. I feel it was a very bad idea from a marketing standpoint because people were hype about Bunny and would obviously be mad they didn’t get her once the character actually dropped (and in the long-run she would just end up being overshadowed by the character everyone has already assigned that color to) but I’m personally not bugged by her being purple beyond that. If I were to draw them together though I think Bunny would have a more pinky shade of purple and Bliss leans more blue.
Loosely on the same topic, because of Bliss I’ve had a running headcanon that “only child” types of powerpuffs tend to come out purple. Kind of like how trios tend to have a red, blue, and green. It’s a fun little piece of fake lore to rotate around in my brain
Anyway with all that out of the way, here’s some redesigns I decided to have some fun with. Wasn’t being too precious about recognizability or simplicity or anything like that, but I did run out of steam partway through. There’s also one based off Whoopass Bell bc idk, why not
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, here’s some OCs I only ever drew once before out of a desire to give Bliss her own teen girl archetypes to form a team with. This is Bee and Beetle, who I’ll probably definitely forget about again immediately after posting this

The Orbitron
The Orbitron is a custom car built by Ed Roth and feared lost until its rediscovery in Mexico in 2007
Tumblr media
A second generation to Roth's original Beatnik Bandit, which was built in 1960, the Beatnik Bandit II features a one-of-a-kind fiberglass body with PPG lemon meringue pie paint, stylized Rat Fink designs on the sides, and chrome by Metal Masters of Salt Lake City, UT.
Beatnik Bandit II includes many unique design features, including an electronic console which operates the digital instrument panel and other features such as a digital readout of the car's latitude and longitude.
The lack of a rearview mirror is not a problem on this car. A "TV mirror" video monitor is mounted on the console with the actual camera mounted in the rear panel. The bubble top is also lifted electronically.
Beatnik Bandit II was built entirely by Roth, who credits "Revelations from Father in Heaven" for his achievement. The car has been shown in major U. S. cities, including Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston, as well as in Yokohama, Japan.
Tumblr media
The Beatnik Bandit
Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth was an artist, cartoonist, illustrator, pinstriper and custom car designer and builder who created the hot-rod icon Rat Fink and other characters. Roth was a key figure in Southern California's Kustom Kulture and hot-rod movement of the late 1950s and 1960s The Beatnik Bandit was one of his first creations from the early 1960s. It was built from a 1949 Oldsmobile, the chassis was shortened 5 feet, the Olds engine was given the classic hotrod look with GMC blower and twin carbys, everything was chromed except the blower belt. The white interior featured single joystick, that operated turning, throttle and braking. The bubble top was created using compressed air to inflate a sheet of plastic into a dome in a pizza oven. On display at the National Automobile Museum in Reno
Tumblr media
Mysterion
Ed Roth built the Mysterion in 1963, he got the idea from the multi engine dragsters he had seen at the dragstrips. He combined two Ford engines, two transmissions, plus two welded rear ends for the foundation. It featured an offset headlight and the typical Ed Roth bubble top. On display at Galpin Auto Sports.

The Road Agent by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth.
Tumblr media
Mysterion
Custom builder and artist Ed "Big Daddy" Roth completed the Mysterion in 1963. The bubbletopped custom featured a completely original fiberglass body and twin Ford big-block engines. The weight of the engines was too much for the frame to bear, and the Mysterion fell apart. Tribute versions have been built, including this precise replica from Galpin Auto Sports.
Tumblr media
The Surfink
The Surfink, created by Mark Glaz as a tribute to Ed Roth and Ratfink, features a large Ratfink figure atop a surfboard complete with a blown V-8 engine.
Tumblr media
The Orbitron
Built in 1964, the vehicle was powered by a 1955 or 1956 Chevrolet V8 and was backed by a Powerglide automatic transmission. The body was hand-laid fiberglass, hiding Roth's extensive chrome work to the chassis. The cockpit, set at the extreme rear of the vehicle in the manner of a dragster, was lined with fake fur and featured an 11-inch General Electric "1-Touch" portable television inserted in the console. Topping the cockpit was a custom-made, hydraulically operated Plexiglas bubble top. One of a series of ordinary doorbell push-button switches atop the hood activated the top from the outside.
Other mechanical features included a 1956 Chevrolet rear end, dropped Ford front axle beam, Buickbrake drums and early Ford brakes. The frame was handmade of rectangular 2x4 inch steel tubing. The engine was a leftover from one of Roth's 1955 Chevrolets, having been removed to make way for a then-new Mark IV big-block given to him by General Motors. It was one of the very few completed cars Roth deemed to be a "mistake" because he felt the car did not show well since the heavily chromed engine and most of the chassis were hidden. The Orbitron was, in fact, one of his few customs to have a hood. Reportedly, the hydraulically operated hood did not fit well due to rushed fiberglass work.
The vehicle's most distinctive feature was its asymmetrical front end with red, green and blue tinted headlamps. It was thought that the three beams when combined would produce an intense white light; the idea came from the then-new medium of color television.

Hello! About your last post, you said you were reading some fanfics, so I wanted to ask: What are your favorite fanfics from the fandom??? Especially the green pls, because I'm obsessed and nothing can help me 😃 (Looking forward to the mafia story)
This is probably not an exhaustive list. If you can't tell I'm a very forgetful person and I'm probably forgetting some good ones. I'll include whether or not the fic is incomplete (NC) and if it contains sexual content (M). I'll also try to find links for all the fics I list. I will say to anyone who uses these recs leave comments and kudos but don't be that person who harasses for an update. Definitely show the author some love though!
More Than Human NC. A definite must-read for anyone getting into the fandom. It was the fic that sucked me in! A great High School fic. Anything from Sbj at all is a win. Make sure to check her out on Dreamwith and FanFiction.net. Some of her stuff is crossposted but not all of it is
Green Lights NC/M. My current obsession. Buttercup moonlights as an exotic dancer and meets a mysterious man (Butch) who captures her attention.
Lie in Lime NC/M. Butch is a fashion designer and Buttercup gets roped into being his model. Features a slight love triangle with Brick. Great fic!
Any of the fics in this series on Ao3. This author is just amazing and most of her works are complete and also pretty long. A win-win if you ask me! Don't shy away from the NC ones though. Lilys of Snow Valley is amazing!
The Good, The Bad, and the Rowdy NC. An old west au.
The Greens Way of Life NC/M. A wonderful collection of One-shots and short stories surrounding the greens
The Number 3 NC. A great High School fic with some mysteries going on in the background.
Lycan NC. SO GOOD! A 19th-century supernatural au that is so well written. I can't recommend it anymore!
Killer's Playground. Mafia au. One chapter for each of the color code parings. Kinda violent
93,000 miles. I don't want to say much and give it away but it's super touching.
In general, just check out Miss.RoseGold. She has amazing greens content (the last few recs were from here) and I'd be here all day if I try to list them all. She's on FanFic.net and Ao3 but I'm not 100% sure if all her works are crossposted.
Green Maiden NC. An interesting dragon au. I don't think this one will ever get completed but it's still worth reading what's written imo
XXY NC a great high school, combined team fic.
Watching Her Move M. Short and smutty from Butch's perspective
Favours Fortune NC/M. A different take on the mafia au.
Our Italian Resturant. A great secret baby au fic. IDK if that made sense but you should definitely read it though
i thank the oceans (for giving me you). The fluffy family feels. I revisit this fic A LOT
Leaving. Just super cute and fluffy (maybe with a tad pinch of sadness)
Re-Life. Has some time travel shenanigans and is so worth the read.
I think that's a pretty good starting point. Again, it's not an exhaustive list of all the fics I have enjoyed in the fandom. A great piece of advice is if you find an author you like, check their account for their other works as well as their bookmarks or favorite stories. You'll find a lot of good fics that way. And don't limit yourself to one site. With a fandom as old as ppg you can find some amazing gems on "older" sites like FanFiction (it grosses me out to consider that site old). net and even here on Tumblr. Here is my own Ao3 link as well if you'd like to check out my own writing. Happy reading!

Hi!! I was wondering if you have a list of 90s raver t shirt brands (including for women) I always see brand names for pants, and I would love to know what to look for online, thank you!
man I didn't see this in my inbox until now haha.
unfortunately there's not like, a master list of shirt brands really aside from those already connected to rave pants brands (jnco/kikwear kikgirl/gat/etc.) mostly because manufacturing shirts with prints is/was incredibly accessible (especially in the 90s) for just about ANYONE to do; so some of my favorite men's brands like clobber or freshjive that were heavily rave-influenced were simply screen printed in people's apartments in the early and mid 90s. They were either sold to shops on melrose in like 20-30pc amounts, or just out of backpacks at raves, but to my knowledge and from looking at catalogs, any of the stuff even like early anarchic adjustment were made in maybe 100-140pc amounts at MOST and just in sizes L and XL usually. 26red and some others got their start that way, caffeine was a record shop first before they ever made clothes, I have a handful of their tapes and records they used to put out.
Most of the early ravewear was just skate stuff that ravers /liked/ like hookups or split, the thing that made it "rave" was just ravers /wearing/ it, they weren't really "raver" brands. Today it's still kind of like that, I'll wear like a bugsex shirt or a 'mr clean' shirt or just local artists I like that have cartoony graphics; early happy99, souldog, I have a guess jeans shirt that has a synthesizer mockup on it, a modern phug shirt that had an acid print this one run, and other stuff, but none of those are "raver" brands per-se, you have to style them with other raverwear and accessories and such for them to be in "raver-style". The "rave"-ness is in the inherent diy perspective or clever re-appropriation towards rave (in the same vein as sample-culture in mid-90s rave music as well) and why it's so hard to truly sell "rave" to the masses even today hahaha.
in the late-90s you had stuff like newbreedgirl or random in-house hot topic brands making stuff more "rave"-oriented like the rainbowbrite shirts or the wonderland bootlegs, but ravers would also go for tinkerbell or ppg shirts sold in the same shop; it was kind of up to the shop to curate what vibe they wanted to sell. The only rave-specific brands I can think of (aside from ones attached to rave pants brands) were mostly just one-offs from record labels like the untranslatable, pureacid mixtapes, dr. freeclouds; printed flyer parties themselves like jujubeats and stuff; or random fuct, pimpgear, or thc one-offs that were usually just a play on drug culture and not so much rave. I have a thc shirt that has the nasa logo spelling "mdma" on a pill, but those were sold at skate shops or record stores.
the tldr is really that there aren't many "raver" brands and that if ravers wore them, it /was/ a "rave" brand in that haha. The few that did cater to ravers were either fully diy sold at parties themselves and/or record shops, but most "brands" were just one guy that made 2-3 designs at most for him and his friends hahaha. A lot of current clothing I see at underground raves in LA is the same or sold directly from vendors at little tables at some renegade under a bridge

Since according to one of our Cartoon Network gods 🥰 Craig McCracken the Powerpuff girls will be back in a proper reboot❤️‍🔥 I want to review another version of them... No, not the 2016 vomitive bullshit I hope soon to be lost media because nobody should acknowledge the existence of such an disgusting garbage tarnishing our childhood🤢🤮, that abomination doesn't deserve the time of anyone🤬... (I apologize to those who liked it but... I stand by what I said😖)
This is about one adaptation that though it was cut short due to the lack of success in audience but that it wasn't that bad, is still watchable and enjoyable and it has actual funny moments but in the end it was too far away from being a Worthy adaptation of the PPG, I'm talking about:
Powerpuff girls Z!!
We have to keep in mind the show was adapted to japanese audience and has the concept of ✨"Magical girls"✨ so they made lots of changes: the very first one I strongly disliked was that they weren't sisters and they weren't professor Utonium daughters, that alone made me irrationally hate the characters that were the girls individual families (yeah you're going to notice how salty I am about this xD). With that, one of the things that fans loved the most that is the very loving, funny and cute father-daughters interactions disappeared, seriously the girls still hang out a lot in his laboratory but it's not the same as the beautiful moments we got in the original show like how he plays tickles with them, how he kisses their heads to wake them up in the morning... 😔
And another thing is the girls personalities and dynamic between them and don't get me wrong it's not like they are unbearable or awful they are entertaining but in my eyes is just that they aren't "they"... And specially now that I re watched some things to make this review because... I realized that Z Buttercup and Z Bubbles have a bunch of fucking shippeable interactions in the show😨😨. If you were too young last time you watched it just search on YouTube a video of their interactions and you'll see! I'm not that twisted I swear!! Sometimes they literally look Like a married couple and Z Blossom behaves as if she was their daughter, Z Bubbles was even blushing in the first episode when she recognizes Z Buttercup from their School and saying she looked up to her and in general I found their interactions too shippeable and yeah in this universe they aren't sisters but is still incestuous as hell in my head 😖🤯
So individually speaking: Design and personally
For design in general I dislike that the style is not quite unique as I would have liked it, this character design resembles too much to Magical Doremi and something that really bugs me is that the PPG here are in an age between 13 and 14 so they are teens... Yet they made them look like little kids, you can see in the show that they are older than that only when they stand next to a younger character like Ken and like I said they resemble too much to the Magical Doremi girls and those girls were only 8 years old, there's a big gap between 8 and 13/14 you know? Specially for girls. This PPG don't have a single trace of "womanhood" In the shape of their bodies. I would have liked something more like Tokyo Mew Mew style since they were teenagers with (no sexualized) hips, bust and breast shape but the PPG have completely Flat undeveloped child bodies that don't correspond to their ages. I mean if you wanted little kids OK, the original where basically toddlers but if they are teens they are teens! Make some distinction between a teen and a 8 years old other than being tall please.
Z Blossom: Her clothes are nice and I think it fits her well, here she became a genki dumbass girl because they targeted her as the main protagonist (and is apparently a magical girl rule to make the main character a genki mostly dumbass girl) which is one of the things I dislike the most, with fanfics too, I hate when they are too much Blossom-centric if is a general story because to me the others are just as relevant and Blossom ends up being the main focus because she is the leader and is in the center and is seen as a big sister (which she isn't because they all popped alive at the same time) but well, even if it is mentioned several times at the beginning the show actually gives the three the same importance and as the original show sometimes there are episodes where one of them is the main focus so... Half-Ok. Genki is a Japanese term for very energetic characters and that's another problem, it feels like she just sucked all Buttercup's and Bubbles' energy and looks too chaotic hyperactive, her intelligence and liking for studying is nowhere to be seen, only you see traces of her being smart when she thinks of a plan. Also she is a sugar addict (that could be the hyperactivity explanation 😐) and is really thirsty for boys, ok look, is not that I think Blossom is out of character for being thirsty over a boy is just that she wouldn't be thirsty over EVERY cute boy she sees (but curiously not the RRB 🙃) . The original Blossom is a responsable (most of the time) dorky bookworm who likes to learn things and cares about her looks and brags a lot and...this one brags a lot too I guess? But even if Blossom had her not very graceful moments she wasn't as chaotic dumb as Z Blossom,🤦‍♀️. She also doesn't look popular in her school unlike the other too, I kind of feel bad about it, I always dislike when she is put in fanfics as the most or only popular of the three for a reason that usually is that she is a super hottie while her sisters aren't 🤨(but almost always with a repellent bitter personality 😑 that makes me question that popularity) but to no making her popular at all? Come on can we just agree that the 3 of them are meant to have their own fans to their different personalities and looks please? Smart, kawaii and sporty are popular in Japanese anime schools. And another annoying thing is that she also has an annoying bratty mean little sister nobody asked for😬😒 nothing like her original awesome actual sisters 😤, Blossom deserves better. Well at least she is cute and fun but is not very accurate to Blossom.
Z Bubbles: Ok Bubbles is my favorite but Z Bubbles lacks of some Bubbles things, I mean is totally fitting that she would be popular with boys but this way is not how I imagined it: a enthusiastic Kawaii girl that could be scouted to be an idol, instead she is a fine lady like mannered elegant girl (because of a strict traditional grandma nobody asked for 😑) that likes fashion, (i mean it makes sense for both her and Blossom to like that so.. That's ok) but my problem is that even if she is still a bit of an airhead she is way too calm and collected! TOO CALM!! Z Blossom absorbed practically all the usual enthusiasm and energy she should have and also given that her attribute is the "sugar" It would have been more fitting for her to be the sweet addict don't you think? Where is your sugar girl!?😫😫 Her civil clothes... one looks like an uniform and its a bit weird because in their school nobody wears uniform which is unusual in Japanese schools, to be honest I would have liked to see all the three of them in uniforms her other outfit is ok. Her hairstyle is a bit too complicated, I mean I don't dig in those loop style piggy tails I'll rather have normal piggy tails for her (she has to sleep with some balls with her hair around them to keep the shape, looks uncomfortable as fuck). It feels to me like a half baked Bubbles, almost but not quite there.
Z Buttercup: Thought her personality is decently similar to the original: tough, not as polite as the other two, sports star(she has fangirls 😆 which I think fits perfectly in her anime persona) there's something that rubs me the wrong way. In anime there are different kinds of tomboy characters (I kinda want to make a post about about it) the type used for Z Buttercup is not the one I think fits better, is way too overly against anything "girl related" to the point she'll despise the idea to spend time with other girls or even being acknowledged as one because being girly is "uncool" but is not like you see her with boys either unlike the original and Mitch. The original Buttercup defended womanhood and the right to be rough and tough and to like things usually "meant for boys" without being any less of a girl and she never disliked being a girl or tried to physically hide it, I totally think she would be offended if someone mistook her as a boy and would get a punch 👊😂. I don't think she hating dresses and skirts in general is accurate, what I think she hates are clothes with a girly or flashy style, she would be just fine with a simple denim skirt but she would absolutely hate something like a tulle skirt, in the original she is ok with her simple dress but she was upset with the pompous party dress she used in one episode.
Tumblr media
A dress and a shirt don't have to be always too femenine and I think the magical dress isn't exactly a style she should hate that much because is not that girly, it has a football jacket 🤷‍♀️and fingerless black globes. To be honest she looks like a crossdressed boy, let me explain 🙌: her civil clothes are 100℅ masculine that mixed with her mannerisms, her Japanese name used for boys too, her voice with the tone used to play little boys roles and her spiked up hairstyle (that is the style Butch should have had) and as I mentioned before her completely flat without a trace of womanhood body makes her look like a crossdressed boy, in fact when Butch stole her dress in that episode he looked more like a girl than her because of his hair and feline eyes 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️, why can't she even have eye lashes if the other two have eye lashes? I want the 3 to have the same eyes style 😭. I have to mention that there was a make over episode where she gets a more femenine look to please a guy 🙂🙃 Emmm ok, that dress she wore was... Not so bad but just as she would hate tulle, frills are also not an option 🙅‍♀️ but I was very pleased with how they re styled her hair, it was almost like the original 💚. So the tomboy type I like for her is the girl with the boyish mannerisms who likes tough sports and has short hair but not necessarily boy style (like a Bob) and wears sporty style clothes that ok can be pants but also can perfectly wear a skirt like denim, or leather fabric or a Hoody dress and she could even wear make up like a simple eyeliner, that's it. Anyway according to the show she is the way she is because of her dad and 2 brothers 🙄thay nobody asked for (By the way I hate Z Buttercup pijama, looks like a Harlequin disguise 🙅‍♀️ like she is disguised as "Z Him")
Magical Dress design and Tranformation sequence:
Oh girl, here I go... I'm going to be mean... After seeing some designs in the artwork I feel robbed. I FEEL ROBBED!! Look!! LOOK!! 😤😤
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't Fuckign believe out of all THIS☝☝☝ they went with that plain flavorless boring dress with a short sleeves football jacket?(why the fuck buttercup's jacket is yellow? I don't care buttercups are yellow, I didn't like it🙃) ROBBED WE WERE ROBBED!! And the transformation sequence was... MEH, not very superhero fitting, again they copied magical Doremi transformation style 🙄🙄 the only thing I rescue is that moment when Z Buttercup gets the skirt because her face and how she moves her legs is hilarious but really the animation is slacking in general, they should have been put more effort in the transformation sequence and also the weapons... sorry but magical girl or not I find insulting that the power puff girls needed weapons and a belt to transform NOPE, sorry Blossom for Ladybug kinda worked but you a yoyo?😕 Bubbles used a giant bubble blower? Ja. ja. hilarious.😐 I would have liked it better if she blew the bubbles directly from her mouth or her hand making a circle👌and Buttercup using the only thing that is an actual weapon, a giant hammer like Amy rose? Also Fucking yellow like the ugly football jacket? I just don't like it yellow, I don't care buttercups are yellow ok 😂 but honestly Buttercup deserves boxing globes because I rather have her punching instead of smashing like girl you're more of a Knuckles Girl type not an Amy Rose girl type... That's more like Blossom or Bubbles.
Secondary Characters:
Mayor: I'm disappointed he isn't bald and doesn't use a little hat... Was it so hard to give him a Chibi form? Something like Iruma-Kun's demon grandpa. Actually we were robbed again! One of his previous design had a more accurate design as the original and it was adorable and funnier! This one has such a BORING design... Like a background character... Mayor should stand out more!!
Miss Bellum: first of all... Why the hell is she blonde? Nop this is unforgivable, she is a REDHEAD, yeah yeah you kept the gorgeous body and the face hidden joke but she isn't blonde! 😑 also she doesn't have as much presence as her original version which was a role model even more than miss Keane for the girls to look up to but well she is still there I guess. Poor Miss bellum, here Fuzzy tried to pull a Browser with her 😂😂 but this isn't as funny as when he wanted to do that with the professor in the original show.
Miss Keane: nothing much to say in general, her design is pretty good for an anime version of her but unfortunately see isn't much relevant in the show.
Professor Utonium: they wronged you so much professor...😤😤 Instead of being the father of 3 super awesome super powerful girls you are stuck with a unoriginal tiny version of you of a son taking all the screen time you should have 😭😭😭 also he wasn't even the one who accidentally creates something, in this case the chemical Z, that credit was for a fucking robot dog!!! But at least he actually has a wife 😂😂 but he never sees her... 🤪. You know what is ok, if his screen time is not him being a dad with the girls I don't want it anyway 😒.
Ken and the robot dog: Out of the principal four protagonists the girls and the professor individual families Ken is the one I wrinkle my nose the most when he shows up, like who the fuck needed a junior Utonium playing son? NOBODY ASKED for this character and didn't make things more interesting and on top of that he has more screen time than the professor 😒😒, I guess is because in magical girl animes the adults barely have important roles... So we better put a random kid just because 🙄🙄. And the robot dog who talks I suppose is the anime version of talking dog but downgraded, because talking dog was a Fucking real dog DUH! Nobody cares about this robot, is so irrelevant I barely remember anything about him just that they tried to make a emotional scene with him at the end of the series. And my greatest resentment against Ken... He actually has a mom😒, of course since you didn't pop out of a concoction but you popped out of an actual woman but still... The actual daughters of the professor never got a mommy, you know what? It's ok they had miss Bellum 🖕🖕, and I'm not gonna hate the mom because she has the decency of only show up in one episode and didn't took screen time from the professor 😤 uff I'm way too salty about this...
Villains: (note, I'm going to complain a lot about how the colors aren't bright 😅)
Mojo Jojo: Why must you make a mockery of a villain that had such a great origin story... This one is too silly, he lacks of aggressiveness. Silly as mojo might be, this one is right away a pushover and is insulting! Mojo was very important in the original show and... This one looks like the principal villain but... No... His personality just won't do... Also why is he so tall? And I don't like his green! His green was brighter!! You know like ☢️ radioactive
Him: Excuse me but... He is a drag queen not a Fucking son of a Harlequin clown, he doesn't even look that demonlike, well yes, he looks like a possessed cringy clown doll... But uff I miss his bright color palette, he needs more RED!! Anyway he was the source of the black energy that created all the villains, as the lore of the show that wasn't that bad, keeping aside his downgraded looks.
Fuzzy: given the scenario I suppose he is pretty accurate, again with his color palette dulled, but he pretty much was dececently similar.
Princess: I know her name is princess but... What the fuck with those clothes? They took it too seriously, she is a rich mean girl, kinda like a bee queen... She should be more stylish, not a girl disguised as a tacky medieval princess, not even the original one who was 5 did that with her civil clothes and I hated her hairstyle when she goes villain mode😑. Her personality is... Half baked, she is still spoiled, nasty and mean but like not as mean as the original and well actually I do like when sometimes she wasn't bad but in general not the anime version of princess I would have liked. Also what did I say about please make a distinction between a teen body and a little kid body? 🙄 he looks even younger than the PPG and she is the same age!!
Sedusa: WHAT were they THINKING with that DESIGN?? Yeah sedusa had big eyes and a big head and didn't have a nose BUT THAT WAS IN THE CARTOONISH version!! She is supposed to be a extremely attractive woman not a fucking monster 😂😂 she is so out of the place with the style of the other characters! Also she is actually a normal girl that turns into this thing they called Medusa when she puts on lipstick!!😨Was it so hard to hit with the black ray an attractive thief woman so she gets magic hair?🤨🤨 And seriously, her body is ridiculous in this anime style, no even miss Bellum was that exaggerated
Gangreen gang: excuse but again, isn't anime style supposed to make characters more good looking? How the fuck they managed to make them uglier? Again with the wrong green color! but seriously what are those designs?! Is like they couldn't decide between the American cartoon and the anime style ☹️☹️... And they changed the gender of one of the members I HATE THAT. Oh look for Arturito there was a Chibi version unlike with the mayor 🙄.
Ameba boys:......i don't really know what to say about them... So... Meh? 😑🤦‍♀️ yeah that will be enough and one of them is a girl now. I could live without the original ones too to be honest.
Rowdyruff Boys: My heart is completely broken. 💔 Why? Why, why? Just WHY?? 😭😭😭 in this show I couldn't ship them with the girls!!! Because this time the boys are basically Mojo and the girls sons!! 😭 you don't know what I'm talking about? In this version the boys were made with Mojo's arm pit hair, his DNA and Blossoms saliva, Bubbles ear wax and Buttercup's foot sweat 😵😵 so their DNA, just like children are made from mommy and daddy DNA 🙈🙈😭😭😭 each boy is basically each girl son WITH MOJO 😭😭😭. I'm not going to bother to review the three of them separately because they have exactly the SAME personality🤦‍♀️, I like their outfits better than the girl's outfits thought Butch face and hair design is just... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ emo bangs? SERIOUSLY? I want the Vegeta hair back thank you😤😒 Also I resent with all my soul that they got to be brothers while the girls couldn't be sisters 🤬🤬 and I can't believe how much of a bad joke they are compared to the originals, hello? The originals were intimidating characters that were pretty much equal to the girls in battle and they were dangerous thugs, here they are just 3 gross kids that fight throwing saliva, ear wax and sweaty socks 💔🤦‍♀️ they wronged you so much my boys and they took away my shipping energy by making it incestuous 🥲🥲
Others:
Duchess: well look at that, the 2016 abomination wasn't the only PPG adaptación that utterly disrespected the fourth Puff in an insulting way... She shouldn't exist to begin with, she was not only a wannabe Bunny but she also stole Princess original role: a rich attention seeker bitch who buys a supersuit more stylish than the PPG dresses, wanting to be a 4 PPG and also wants them to look bad... What kind of bullshit is this?? What she was is what princess should have been in the first place, and they dared to put Bunny's color theme, she even has the same hair color 🤬 and FUCK I hate how much I like her super outfit 1000 times more than the PPG outfits 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. They wasted the chance to make an emotional episode using Bunny's lore. Maybe a girl in a wheelchair or another disability (since Bunny represented disabled people) that gets saved by the girls and wished to have the same powers and return the favor and she gets them in a accident, then saves the girls and loses her powers and then moves away from the city after saying goodbye (so that things doesn't end up as tragic as the original but still ends emotional) see? Something this simple would have been more respectful towards Bunny than this unnecessary bullshit of a character.
Cody: There's a few original villains of the show that I don't care about but I'm gonna talk about this one because of his relationship with Bubbles. This character basically is a hospitalized boy who was Bubbles childhood friend and first love, he gets hit by a dark ray and turns into a beast, so we could have a "beauty and the beast" With Bubbles. I just find curious that his design could be considered another version of anime style Boomer, his hairstyle is similar and he has darker blond hair and darker blue eyes and I wonder... I have the Headcanon that the creator of this character was a boomubbles fan that was as frustrated as me that the rrbxppg weren't shippeable here so they made a character who looks like boomer to make a love story with Bubbles 😂😂😂 what do you think?
Well in general I believe that this show was watchable and entertaining but as anime is not a very remarkable one, it doesn't have a particularly good animation (is a bit sloppy) or good script and definitely I don't think it does justice as an anime adaptation of another show like PPG.
Jeez... I think I roasted it too much 😶😶, I know that normally I talk about why I love things but sometimes a girl has to vent 😅👉👈, I apologize to those who loved this show 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ sorry 😅😅

this might be a very, very unpopular opinion here but personally I do like some of of these “headcanon” art stuff. Don’t get me wrong I completely understand why they can be a problem but personally I kinda like the designs of some of these tumblrified characters. Cringe for sure but some of them are admittedly, pretty. For me, as long as they don’t have a shown cannon race it’s kinda free game.
Hey, that's cool, you do you. I do as I do. We don't all have to be the same. Try to not say something you like is cringe though, as that takes away a bit of credibility or like you don't agree with yourself. Also genuine question, which scale are we using here, rcdart or vivziepop or twitter pinkie pie?
call me woke or whatever but it’s just my kind of cringe that I personally like. It’s stupid, it’s silly, and it’s even ugly, but I guess it just fun to see how people could change one character so much that it ends up reflecting them or whatever while still trying to somewhat look like the character they buried in a thousand “headcanons”. Plus, it’s good character ideas (as in appearance.)
I won't call you anything, you seem like a nice and polite anon that has a different viewpoint than me, that's okay. I will say though, at that point, why not make ocs instead? Being honest, I want to steal some designs from homestuck because Hussie sucks and the characters had potential, but if the objective is to make them look like a reflection of the artist or only for personal use, why even re-imagine a particular character in the first place? In my opinion, it's because deep down it's been proved that that kind of art usually doesn't sell very much, so it's the original IP attached to it that gains traction.
Think of how many reboots are created nowadays, and how every one is worse than the last, if it didn't have the OG IP attached to it in the first place, I doubt anyone would have even looked twice at something like the PPG from 2016, Tiny Toons (they made two characters who were lovers become siblings) or even Velma.
overall, I like some of these tumblrised designs. They are kinda charming. Maybe cause I’m more “left-leaning” or something but it’s just a guilty pleasure of mine to just look at designs I think are nice no matter how ugly they are to others. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Amen, brother, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But also, I think it's a slippery-slope, because remember HONE? How the same people that draw these characters as FAR AWAY from the original design as possible criticize her so much when she actually was the one drawing as similarly to the original comic style in the first place? Some people try to virtue signal with their designs to be "inclusive" so much that they circle back to being actually unironically racist because they insult a japanese artist because of their art style.
and personally I do feel bad for liking stuff like this. Like I agree with some of y’all’s points here but I don’t know, I think I’ll just put my opinion over this issue.
Again, don't be ashamed of what you like, if it makes you happy, you find something of value in it and you're not harming anybody, what's the issue? I don't think you're like the same people that try to guilt trip others for not drawing like the "tumblr style", but the reality is that that sadly is way less common than you'd think.

I have to say that looking through your Powerpuff AU and it is just too precious and cute as all hell .I liked how you were able to incorporate both versions (1998 and 2016) into something familiar but different
Plus your designs for the girls are just *chef’s kiss* brilliant.Keep it up 👍😊
Tumblr media
Thank you so much aaaa!!
I really think that a good chunk of ideas from PPG 2016 could have worked really well if they had been placed into different hands. Sometimes it's a matter of perspective and having the right people to bounce off of. When only a few people are in control and refuse to take any feedback, or the team is forced to rush (Both of which have been implied in PPG 2016's production) you get a product not nearly as good.
It's one reason why I also like looking at AUs and different implementations of Bliss and Bunny into the universe because the PPG fandom can sometimes have such wonderful ideas. A secondary take on Bunny I saw was her being re-created as an infant which is a neat idea to explore too.
Honestly I love this fandom so much, I apologize for rambling :'D

💚💗💙
Did my own re-design of the Powerpuff Girl Trio! This was a completely spur of the moment decision when I thought giving Buttercup a rat tail hairstyle would be cute as heck. This is totally left field, but I had to get it out of my system. It was a lot of fun!

so yeah t..this just happen to drop on the feed of ppg on twitter - pretty sure some of you saw it earlier then me, yet i still wanted to share it to you all on here as well :D i have soo much to comment down here; i love the first animation it's gorgeously appealing to look at, the second animation of them being cut out drawn version is cute too, i adore very much that they kept their designs just spiced it up a bit in a cuter fashion, the next animations tho...i don't like the muscle one; it reminds me of the reboot..ugh made me cringe very hard that it really wasn't good idea to add that there, and the finale one that i didn't like as well was the ghost one..yeahhhh i get it it's supposed to be spoopy buut i am not into it much not stating that i didn't like the 8bit art style nahh i love it but i just - i would've love to see them as not skeleton but rather something else. what else? i loved the 80's vibe art style it was cute, the bouncy old cartoon organic was great to look at and the finale one with them being all mojo jojo evil was such a reference to hard core bubbles episode haha :D. cute but wacky. now, after looking through the comment section of the post itself i found out that it's a commercial - that's it...which begs to make people think, or come up with theorize that maybe, just maybe,, cn may bring the girls back again..but in a different tone and they just wanna wait correctly to see how the public would react to the design there displaying here. - i now the other ones are popping in indicating that it's just a commercial but the base one is the one that just stands out makes it apparent of it being that style , ya know? so...if my assumption of them possibly wanting to re-do the trashy reboot and not reboot them but rather bring the girls back organically then that would be wonderful to see, however, i have doubts of CN doing the right thing..seen there twitter account and i highly doubt it..but one can hope they may re-bring them from the dead lol. finally someone mentioned that they maybe going based off the powerpuff world..i have 0 knowledge on this information so if anybody can please just discusses about it - would be nice to know.

“Maybe not that hot of a take depending on who you ask but the PPGZ dub HAS to be redone. It may not be as bad as Glitter Force or Mew Mew Power, but it definitely has problems. Yeah half these problems were especially prominent in older anime dubs, but I hardly see anyone talk about PPGZ. Although I don't know why I'm surprised considering the amount of people who hated it. I just think it's one of the many (?) magical girl animes that should be done justice with the dubbing. Also, at the moment this is pretty much the only place I can really talk about this.
For one thing, I don't understand why the girls' civilian names & their hero names were the same? That ruins the whole point of a secret identity? I mean yeah it was probably for localization reasons (not that that's exactly a good thing but still) but was that really the best they can do?
Second, I don't get some of the name changes. Not all of them, since again I can understand that's as for localization reasons. It's still a bad thing, but is it really that surprising? I'm mostly talking about the fact they changed (most of) the GGG's names in the 50th episode. Other than Snake/Ivy whose been changed from the start, there was no point. There are others that I found pretty pointless, but honestly what else can I say?
Going off of that last part, those stupid gender changes. I know it was the 2000's so anything remotely queer was usually edited but something about it here really ticks me off. IIRC the only gender non-conforming characters that weren't changed were Him (for obvious reasons) & Michel/Gilbert (who I honestly don't know what the original writers were trying to do with. Was he supposed to be laughable or insufferable? (surprise surprise he wasn't either to me, just sad) Either way, one time villain, only appeared like 2 times after that, no one cares.) In Snake/Ivy's case I both somewhat understand & am just... really confused?
I believe the main reason for this change was the scene with them massaging Bubbles as a way to prevent her from stopping the gang, & it comes of as rather creepy. In my opinion that doesn't fix the problem it just makes it gay. The only other instance of this I can name from the top of my head is the fashion designer from Fashion Action. Why'd they turn him into a Coco Chanel parody. What was the point?
Oh I see, when it's a villain being gender non-conforming it's okay since they're a villain, but if it's someone else with a significant role in an episode then it should be edited because the children can't see a man acting feminine & think it's normal! (Also I'm confused as to whether or not Arturo was a girl in the original anime, though if that were true I wouldn't know why. Then I can kind of understand the gender change but other than that it's honestly so stupid. But again, I don't know what I expected from the 2000s.)
An honorable mention I'd like to make was the editing/removal of the more emotional scenes, but honestly after Glitter Force I wouldn't be surprised if that's still going to be an issue for future anime dubs.
This probably isn't the best way to voice this but at the moment this is the best place. Even with these flaws, I still find PPGZ better than whatever other reboot they've tried to throw in our faces these past few years. I just hope some company finds this suitable enough to re-dub.
Anyway I think I'm gonna take Ivy & Michel from this hellstorm & use them for whatever other PPG related projects I have in mind; I like them fairly enough. Okay that's it. Sorry you had to read this.”

PPG One-Shot: Blowing Off Steam (Brick/Blossom)
@carriedreamerx and @kiebs have been hard at work these last couple of days drawing some really pretty art over on IG for various of our collective fics (check out their IGs, the art is super gorgeous). Since I have the artistic skills of a rock, I thought I’d say thanks with some Reds fight-and-make-out fic! This is an excerpt from an upcoming multi-chapter fic that will feature the Punks along with the Girls and the Boys. Gist of it is they’ve all been warped to a different planet and are stuck in a weird, possibly haunted house as they try to find a way out of it with punches and problem solving and *gasp* teamwork. They’re all in their late 20s in this. In this excerpt, Brick and Blossom blow off a little steam and Berserk takes all the credit.
(Unbeta’d and subject to change when I get around to posting the actual multi-chapter fic itself.)
xxx
Blossom had never felt more discomfited by Berserk’s absence than her presence, but she felt it now across the table from Brick with no one else around to draw her wandering eye, or his. He shifted his weight in his chair. She stretched her neck. He took a sip of water. She cleared her throat.
After ten minutes of this, he slammed his book shut. “What is happening?”
Blossom fixed her gaze firmly on her book and the passage she’d re-read at least four times now without absorbing any of it. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“It’s taken you twenty minutes to read two pages.”
The knee-jerk urge to refute him tugged at her like a dog begging for table scraps, but she ignored it. He wasn’t wrong. “I guess I’m finding it hard to concentrate today.”
They watched each other across the long table, and it struck her just how red his eyes were even from afar: two burning pits fixed entirely on her. Unsettling, yet strangely warm. She thought about retiring early, but she wasn’t tired. In fact, she was having some trouble sitting still in her chair. Maybe a walk outside would do her good, or even a run. Maybe Buttercup was free and up for a spar. Just anything to get her body moving and her brain blanking before her thoughts burned a hole through her skull and exposed everything to him.
“Let’s go a round,” Brick said. The sound of his chair sliding over the tile screamed in the cavernous, quiet library.
“What?”
“I feel like I’m trying to crawl out of my own skin.” He flexed a fist, and red sparks spiderwebbed along his knuckles to the wrist eager for something to burn.
Blossom’s mouth went dry at the manifest threat of his power calling to her like old ghosts. She could retreat, provide some excuse, it had worked before. But no excuse came to her now, and under the table, her fingers curled around a mass of pastel power itching for a summoning. She rose from  her chair, books forgotten, and headed for the door. “We can’t have that,” she said.
He fell into step after her not a moment later and followed her down the hall and up the second floor balcony to the first challenge room. The house was quiet and empty tonight, its vaulted ceilings cold and distant. It was as though they were the only two people awake in this uncanny place.
It took everything Blossom had not to stop and wait for him to catch up. His eyes at her back gave off a singular heat, homing and hyper-focused. Perhaps years ago, she would have never entertained the thought of turning her back on someone so dangerous. Now, the thought of what she might invite if she faced him kept her squarely focused on her destination ahead.
“Ladies first,” Brick said directly behind her when they reached the challenge room. He grabbed the edge of the door and held it open for her.
Blossom looked anywhere but back at him and stepped over the threshold. The change of pressure entering the pocket dimension made her ears pop and the access band on her wrist heat with power. As before, the walls on all sides moved as concrete structures grew and shifted, sky scrapers blooming like flowers and withering to dust, only to sprout again elsewhere. Brick followed and closed the door behind them. Already disoriented, Blossom began to float as she adjusted to the altered gravity and tried to abandon the idea of up versus down.
“Restrictions?” Brick asked. He shed his red jacket, leaving him only in his matching pants and a form-fitting tank top.
Blossom very maturely averted her gaze lest he assume she was ogling him, of all the ludicrous notions. Steeling herself, she unzipped her own red jacket and tossed it aside to join his. “Since when can you afford to restrain yourself against me?”
His laughter, light and low, shivered her to the bone. “All right, then. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
He was on her in a flash with a hard punch. Blossom blocked at the last second, but the force sent her crashing into concrete. She barely had time to cough when he came at her again with another punch aimed at her face, but this time she dodged in the nick of time and it was his turn to eat rubble.
Adrenaline and Chemical X made for a heady, explosive cocktail in her veins that spread from her fingertips to the very ends of her long ponytail. Incandescent, pink power jumped over her bare arms as she poised to receive him again.
“Come on,” she said.
Brick glowed red, and it was her only warning before he rocketed after her. Blossom took off deeper into the maze of ever changing obstacles, the exertion only fueling her faster along in a familiar chase they had not run in years.
The pocket dimension was a death trap. Blossom darted over and under spikes and spires closing around her like jaws, her movements precise and fluid. But Brick was just as adept and wasted little energy swerving around the masticating mandible they had chosen for this evening’s playground.
Blossom swung around and under a sprouting obelisk, trusting her body to move exactly according to her will, but Brick abruptly changed course and met her mid-spin. Anticipating his sneak attack, Blossom let him have it with a wicked kick in the ribs.
Unfortunately, he was damn fast and grabbed her by the ankle just as her kick connected, and they both went flying with the force of her attack. A receding column broke Blossom’s fall with a rude crunch, and she broke Brick’s. Rose met red through a cloud of dust and electric Chemical X.
“Caught you,” he said.
Maybe it was the rush of the moment that drove her, the old thrill of the hunt from their heyday, never acknowledged but deeply felt. She felt him now, palms searing around her knee and pinning her neck, and she reached back.
Too close to avoid her open palm on his chest, Brick took her ice at point-blank range and blasted away in a flurry of snowflakes. He nearly hit a stone pillar punching out of the undulating wall, but managed to flip out of its path at the last second.
Blossom floated higher, her arms sleeved in ice and her breath misty. The temperature plummeted further as her power rippled through the pocket dimension. “Not quite,” she said in a voice that crept in between the shifting sky scrapers like hoarfrost.
Across from her, Brick’s power sluiced off him as thick as magma. He was a bright, burning star in this grey world, and god she could feel him pushing back and fighting for ground as if he were right in front of her. The chemically saturated air shimmered around him and ignited the blood in his eyes as they met hers. “Come here.”
It was all the encouragement she needed to give in to the timeless spark between them and unleash. Frost met fire as they collided, broke, and collided again. His punches smoldered, but her ice tempered them to cleansing smoke. And when she caught him in a freezing hold, he inevitably slipped through behind a veil of steam. Each unable to smother the other, they were evenly matched and forever at odds as they ricocheted off stone towers and toppled thrusting obelisks in their bid for dominance.
And that was what this was, what it had always been. Blossom had never felt the need to control and dominate another like she felt it fighting Brick. Call it fate, or design, or maybe it was just him, but there was nothing like this release, this honest surrender to the creature she was and always would be, made magnificent in the eyes of a true equal.
“I’m right here!” she taunted, with snowflakes in her hair.
Brick landed on a cracked block. The cement began to melt under the heat of his power where he crouched and captured her in those pyre-bright eyes. “Is that an invitation?” he shot back. “Or a threat?”
Alive with the thrill of unfettered competition, Blossom grinned. “Let’s find out.”
She took off at a punishing pace, half flying around the cement blocks and half skating over their frozen faces. Brick was right on her tail, his steps scorching the swaths of ice she left in her wake to cataclysmic ends. Wherever the two Supers’ extremities came into direct contact, the concrete collapsed and exploded like a parade of supernovas.
He was close, she could feel it, but he wouldn’t catch her, no way. Blossom was the best at what she did, and no one knew that better than her counterpart. But he was fast closing the distance between them, and when she chanced a glance back, there he was haloed in haze, his fire rising like great, golden chains, and he reached for her.
Blossom gasped, and it was her mistake. Brick caught her waist and pulled her back hard. The blizzard in her lungs went up in steam between his fingers clamped over her mouth. They hurtled together head over heels with Blossom kicking and jabbing with her elbows. But Brick locked her arms to her sides and anchored her to his chest until they came to a stop and she could hardly move. Pink power crackled on her skin as she thrashed in his arms, but he only laughed.
“That tickles,” he murmured.
Blossom immediately ceased her struggling. Immured in his arms with no chance of escaping unless he let her go, she became acutely aware of just how close they were. His breath was warm in her hair, and he smelled like smoke and parchment. He hadn’t loosened his hold around her at all.
“Brick,” she said, sotto voce.
He laughed again, low and husky. “Yield.”
The very word inspired an electric disdain in her. “No.”
He pressed his nose to her hair, and when he spoke his lips brushed against the side of her neck. “Are you sure?”
Blossom turned her head to look him in the eye and held on to her nerve out of sheer force of will. “Are you?”
This close, she could count his freckles and taste the heat he radiated, but there was no reading him beyond his singular and absolute focus on her.
He loosened his grip around her and pulled away. “No,” he said.
Blossom caught him before he could move away. Thoughtless perhaps, but Blossom never stopped thinking, not about their entrapment here, not about finding a way out, and not about him since the day they arrived in this strange place. She barely tugged at his shirt before he was on her again, arms around her waist and kissing her hard. Her fingers sparked with power as she threaded them through his short hair, making him groan, and he suddenly shoved them against the freezing, concrete wall until it cracked. His kiss was volcanic, as relentless as he was, and Blossom pulled him deeper with a smile.
The wall lurched at her back, and as quickly as it had begun, Brick ended the kiss and pushed her out of the way of a wicked spike just as it erupted from the enchanted wall. Blossom landed deftly on a nearby block and watched him do the same. Breathing hard, she wiped the traces of the best kiss of her life from her lips.
“Best two out of three,” he called to her.
Unable to resist, she smirked. “Restrictions?”
“You couldn’t restrain yourself against me if you tried.”
A retort sat poised on the tip of her tongue, but it still remembered his kiss and refused to cooperate.
“Blossom,” he said in a commanding tone that wanted answering.
Blossom’s power burst around her, radioactive, and she launched herself skyward. “Try and keep up.”
They spent the next two hours raining tempestuous ruin, on the pocket dimension and on each other.

Berserk took one look at Brick and Blossom when they returned to the Red Wing later that evening in their soot- and sleet-stained clothes, set her book down, and drained the rest of her bourbon. “Oh god.”
Brick rolled his eyes headed for his room. “There better be some of that left when I get out of the shower.”
Berserk flipped him the bird, which he returned behind his back before slamming the door.
Blossom hovered like a deer caught in the headlights until Berserk took pity on her and poured a fresh glass. “Here. You look like you need this more than I do.”
Blossom snapped out of it and took the offered bourbon automatically. “What?”
Jesus Christ.
You try to be nice for once, and nobody fucking appreciates it. Typical.
“Whatever.” Berserk went back to her book and her own glass of bourbon, which she topped off with the rest of the bottle so there would be none left for Brick.
Blossom didn’t fuck off to her own room like she ought to have, but instead sat down on the red sofa across from Berserk. She was smiling like a creep. Before Berserk could ask her if she needed medical assistance with whatever the hell was going on, Blossom said, “Cheers.”
Magenta eyes narrowed over the top of her book as Berserk studied her counterpart for any hint of a scheme. When she found none, she cautiously clinked her overfull glass to Blossom’s and drank.
They sat there in silence for a while. The sound of Brick’s shower was a low din behind his closed door as Berserk slowly flipped the pages of her book, some boring shit about this planet’s agricultural practices. Blossom had picked up a book of her own and curled up, her legs tucked under her in a perfect mirror to Berserk. Every once in a while Berserk would steal a glance at her counterpart and find her quiet and content with her book and bourbon. Peaceful was not quite the right word for this weirdly tranquil ambience, and Blossom for sure needed a shower. But, well…
Well.
“Thank you.”
It was so softly spoken, that had they not been reading in complete silence, Berserk may not have heard her speak. Blossom didn’t look up to acknowledge her sitting there, or even to check that Berserk had heard her.
Berserk curled a lock of her frizzy, red hair around her finger and buried her nose in her book. “Whatever.”
Blossom hid a smile behind her book and finished her drink.

Thanks for reading! <3

Yeah, I totally agree. Like you said, the humor in TTG isn't bad, it's just designed for kids. My main point in that ask that I ran out of space to wrap up very well was that TTG tried to reinvent a classic to keep its popularity high. I feel like so many people got mad about TTG unreasonably just because it wasn't the original show, even though it maintained characters' relationships and key villains. But then nobody got upset about the PPG reboot, even though it was far worse at being a show
Yeah; TTG not taking itself seriously is why I don’t begrudge it, but also, again, I didn’t watch the original series, and I understand why fans were disappointed by its re-imagining even if its target audience isn’t the same as its original show...
PPG on the other hand was popular because it had universal appeal, and also I DEFINITELY would not say that no one was upset about the PPG reboot. There was a LOT of anger and rage back when the show first came out, and I remember seeing massive posts heavily criticizing the show everywhere from the childish and inappropriate humor, the removal of Ms. Bellum, the extremely outdated memes, the bad artistic choices, and the MASSIVE amount of production errors (seriously there’s so many technical problems with this show)
it’s still widely disliked, to my understanding, by old fans of the series, and it’s because the reboot’s creators said they wanted to be a “continuation” of the original show (therefore, they’re aiming for a similar audience), but then proceed to throw out and contradict so, SO much of the OG series and even the reboot’s own timeline.
Tumblr media
also I fucking despise the art direction in terms of expressions and what not in the reboot; they do these dumbass overly simplified expressions or they just slap an emoji or whatever in their eyes and call it a day
It’s just... super unappealing

ThunderCats - "Exodus"
Tumblr media
Written by: Leonard Starr
Another experiment begins? Maybe?
Fly Pow Bye's only initial mission was to review every episode of PPG 2016. That changed when I got the idea to review another reboot that was coming on while it was still airing, and my originally. Now, it seems like I have become the reviewer of reboots. I've reviewed every episode of PPG 2016, reviewed every episode of DuckTales 2017 so far, and people have asked me what I'm going to review next. I probably could have done a certain reboot that was on Nickelodeon, but there was another show on Cartoon Network that was announced that intrigued me. However, I won't be reviewing that right now, as one can tell from the title.
I'm going to be blunt: I have zero recollection of anything with the original ThunderCats from the 1980's. I do remember watching reruns of it on Cartoon Network and liking the theme song, but that's it. The impression I got from other people's recollections of it is that it was a really good one minute music video with nothing else of worth after it. I mean, just listen to CBR tell us what they felt ThunderCats was in an article about how we shouldn't be worried about a certain reboot:
Face it: the original was just as dumb as most '80s cartoons, only sustained in adults' memories by nostalgia and unfulfilled potential.
I could just take the writer at CBR at their word, and my preconceived notions would make that very easy for me. Fly Pow Bye does not do "very easy," so...away we go. Most shows would have started with a Genesis, ThunderCats starts with the Exodus.
Tumblr media
Specifically, it's an exodus from a desolate, fiery wasteland, as we see a spaceship flying over it in ThunderCats' first shot after the opening. This spaceship is piloted by a bunch of humanoid cats led by an old man named Jaga. One of them, a orange man named Tygra, asks if he can wake Lion-O up. Cheetara tells him that they shouldn't upset the child with such a distressing view, only for Jaga to just say "WAKE HIM!"
Tumblr media
And so Cheetara does. Jaga has his reasons for waking this kid up; he is apparently the future leader, and he must learn to take the bad from the good. He's still a kid, even having his own teddy bear, but don't tell Lion-O that.
Lion-O: I'm practically grown up!
Hmm, hmm, hmm. How wonderful he brings that up specifically.
Tumblr media
His pet cat dragon thing starts to complain about that. Don't worry about forgetting his name, as Snarf always seem to end his sentences with a partial version of it when he's complaining, which is all the time from what I can tell. If it means anything, at least his first line is followed by our future leader telling Snarf to “let up”. This won’t be the only time, not by a long shot.
Tumblr media
Jaga wanted to wake him up just in time to see the fireworks. Specifically, of his home planet exploding. His reasoning was that he needed to take the bad and the good. I guess the good is that he is the future leader, and he's going to let the code of Thundara live on. It has all the usual things one would put in such a code. Honor, justice, pizza. Okay, maybe not that last one.
Tumblr media
He won't be alone either, as the nobles of the land are there with him: Panthro, Cheetara, Tygra, Wily Kit, and Wily Kat, left to right in that image above. Snarf is there too, but he doesn't even mention him. This is something he takes very well, I completely lie. Together, they are the ThunderCats. It's good for Jaga to come up with such a great name for action figures. Lion-O, with all this responsibility, does his best to accept it.
Lion-O: I will, Jaga, I swear it! ...well, I'll try.
Well, the kid doesn't have much of a choice, does he? These nobles aren't the only thing Jaga wants Lion-O and the kids at home to know about, as he lets him know about the important part of his heritage.
Tumblr media
We get to see the Sword of Omens, and the eye of Thundara that is embedded in it. Lion-O decides to look at the gift horse in the mouth and talk about how it's got holes in the hilt, and he doesn't see that huge eye-looking thing in the center of it. Unfortunately, being only a little kid, he can't even lift it, and Jaga merely tells him he doesn't have the strength yet. He then tells Snarf to get the others.
Snarf: But I wanted to hear...
Jaga: It's important, Snarf!
Okay, maybe I can understand why he complains so much; everyone's just yelling at him to let up his yap.
Tumblr media
When the rest of the ThunderCats come in, he gives them all weapons and clothing to protect them from the elements of wherever they're landing, as apparently they didn't need it on their home planet back when it wasn't on fire. Oh yeah, they were only clothed with their fur until now; I was trying not to point out the giant elephant in the room. I don't wonder why they decided to leave that out of any potential reboots.
After he gives the ThunderCats their outfits and weapons, the ship starts to rattle and roll. Jaga tells Lion-O to stay put while the others take care of whatever it is, but he's not having it!
Lion-O: Aw, I don't want to be safe! Safe is boring!
Yeah, forget being safe!
Tumblr media
That rattling and rolling is from an army of ships piloted by Slithe and his army of mutants, hailing from the planet Plun-Darr. 80's villains were never really subtle with the names of their planets or themselves. When one names their kid Slithe, they may as well teach them how to laugh and evilly as possible.
They end up doing very well, destroying every other ship except for the ones with all the characters we know in there. There is a good reason why they want to keep the ship safe: they don't want to destroy the Eye of Thundara, even though only Slithe knows what it looks like.
Tumblr media
Slithe decides to laser a hole the ship, complete with his ship making a tube connecting the two so we don't have to question if these mutants can breathe in space, and sends his army to attack. This leads to our first big fight scene between the ThunderCats and the Mutants. We know the ThunderCats' names, and now we get to see their abilities. Cheetara, she can run really, really fast. Tygra, he can disappear! Panthro, he's strong enough to break maces with his bare hands and has amazing quips!
Panthro: If you guys were as mean as you are ugly, then maybe you'd be trouble!
Oh yeah, and Kit and Kat can throw colorful smoke bombs. Most of that stuff was already in the intro, but hey, it's nice to get a reminder in the actual show. Maybe it doesn't look as good as the intro, but, and maybe it's just my standards being put very low, but I wouldn't call the animation bad. It does end rather abruptly as soon as Wily Kit and Wily Kat use their smoke bombs, but that's really my only downside for this.
After ransacking through a bunch of boxes, destroying their precious soccer ball, Slithe and one of his minions, Jackalman, do manage to find the room where the Eye of Thundara is at. They are greeted by a little kid holding a sword that's much too big for him, and a dragon cat thing who tries to call himself "Snarf the Fierce". Snarf the Fierce ends up getting caught in a net while he tries his best Scrappy Doo impression. They also do not fear a kid who can barely hold the giant sword...
Tumblr media
...however, they do fear a shining logo with a cat on it. It also seemingly gives Lion-O enough strength to hold it for a few seconds, which is more than enough to make them all run away. If only that worked on bullies.
Tumblr media
While the enemies have left, the ship is in not so great condition due to all of that ransacking from before, and they have to change course to a different planet that can support life. Panthro manages to find a blue planet in some dinky galaxy, the third rock from the sun. They call it Third Earth eventually.
I love that they decided to have an explanation of almost everything to all the people who really needed that MST3K mantra. How can they get to a planet that's light years away from them without any kind of ludicrous speed? They have to be suspended in pods! Why can't Jaga go into one of those pods? There's several reasons to that: he doesn't trust the auto-pilot in the condition its in, or robot pilot as this show coins it, and the pods doesn't stop aging entirely, so he'd die anyway. Why not die helping them out?
Tumblr media
Much to the dismay of everyone else, Jaga ends up piloting the ship as long as he can, and he disintegrates, possibly with the help of a "self-disintegrate" feature on his armband. Considering his future role in the series, it is possible they felt having him fade away would be too obvious. Jokes aside, it’s not every day you get to see an on-screen death on Saturday Morning TV.
Tumblr media
The robot pilot was apparently not programmed to land properly, so they end up crashing, and all the pods scattered across a small area. Snarf gets out of his pod first, and of course he takes the time to complain about how he wasn't going to like this, Snarf Snarf. He manages to find Lion-O's pod, and what's the first thing Lion-O says after years of slumber?
Lion-O: What are you doing, Snarf, get away!
He bumps his head, and his first assumption is that his pod shrank, and then he noticed Snarf shrank, too, and he suddenly has huge hands!
Tumblr media
A peek in the water later, he finds out he's an adult now! Yeah, that was one thing I didn't remember from the original: our hero is essentially DC's Captain Marvel/Shazam minus the superpowers plus a cool sword minus any way to change back into Billy Batson. He does try to get used to it immediately, refusing his favorite teddy bear from Snarf in what seems to be the fifteenth time he's been indirectly told to shut up.
Tumblr media
Slithe and his usual gang of idiots also manage to make it to Third Earth, too. We can only assume they have better pods. Snarf sees this and tries to give Lion-O the sword. It seems that the faulty pod gave Lion-O a little bit of amnesia, as he doesn't remember these specific mutants that attacked the ship he was on or the Sword of Omens when Snarf tries to give it to him, which he assumes is just another toy. See, there was a point to him having a teddy bear!
Tumblr media
Not accepting the toy, he decides to run towards the mutants as soon as one of them decides to try to chop up one of the pods they found. Snarf, in his second time in the episode where he ended up being useful, decides to throw the sword at Lion-O, and he's able to grab it without cutting his huge hands. I'd imagine the sword helped, not that Lion-O even knows what it is.
Thankfully, Obi-Wan shows up as a Force Ghost to tell Luke to use the glowing sword. In other words, Jaga shows up as a spirit to use the Sword of Omens. Even death can't stop Jaga from fulfilling his duty to be Lion-O's Tutorial level. Just being with Jaga's spirit refreshes his memory, and, now having the strength to use the sword, he uses the sword's "sight beyond sight" feature to find the other pods.
Tumblr media
We get this show's transformation sequence! Well, the sword transforms as Lion-O swings it and says "Thunder", and it becomes large as the Eye of Thundara shines the Cat-Signal. I'm sorry, I had to make that joke eventually! The Cat-Signal wakes the other ThunderCats up...
Tumblr media
...and we get our second fight scene, essentially doing the same thing as last time, but this time we get to see Tygra actually use his whip, and Lion-O gets to...run across and dodge things. Okay, I wasn't expecting him to actually slash these creatures on screen, but he still doesn't get to do much with that enhanced edge.
Also, they get to do their thing with the theme song in the background...for about ten seconds before they decided, "oh wait, this is just going to look bad compared to the usual animation!" Still, it's pretty cool for 80's cartoons.
Tumblr media
In the end, the mutants use their teleportation devices to get out of there, and Lion-O gets to boast about how awesome he is, and that he'll definitely be the leader and protector of the ThunderCats. Everyone else shakes their head, knowing fully well that inside that grown man is a little kid that appears to have the motto "being safe sucks." Snarf comments on both this and my decision to review two different versions of the show at the same time.
Snarf: Maybe it'll turn out alright, and maybe it won't!
It does feel like this episode kind of just ends, as if it was half of an episode. Actually, that's because it is. Much like DuckTales and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which would air later the same year ThunderCats did, the series begins with a story arc. They aired the first two episodes right next to each other as the Pilot, so I’m technically reviewing half an episode. However, I still have to ask...
How does it stack up?
One problem with this show is that nobody really has an amazing facial expression that I could use as a rating system. Something tells me the other version of the show won’t have this problem, but I’ve always wanted to revamp Fly Pow Bye’s rating system anyway.
I’ve always said “mid neutral”, “high disgusted”, “low happy”, and I feel like that’s just showing the flaw of using a 3 system. Sure, The Oct-Father is one of the best episodes of PPG 2016, but I gave it the same rating as The Long Skate Home, an episode that just barely scrapes above the average episode. I think that needs to change.
So, here it is: I’m just going to rate everything out of 5. As much as I love the Happy, Neutral, Disgusted ratings. This episode does intrigue me to the second half of the pilot, but I feel the best has yet to come. At least, I hope so; I really don’t know what to expect. 4 Cats.
Tumblr media
See you on Saturday for my review of ThunderCats Roar's version of this episode...and a couple of the future episodes of this show, it seems, since the Berbils show up already in the first episode. Uh, that's going to be a bit awkward.
