There is a theory that the way children play serves as a means to simulate and prepare them for the tasks they'll take on as adults. So for all the narrative weight both Jinx and the story give the boxing machine at the arcade it would never have prepared her or the kids to take on Piltover.

What are the two things that Piltovans excel at over their Zaunite counterparts to keep the hierarchy? Weapons and technological development.

When you look at the way Piltovans invest in their children, they don't prioritize hand to hand/melee combat training. Piltovans focus on giving their children experiences in handling firearms, a pursuit that is both leisure sport for the wealthy and a key offense against dissenting Zaunites.

And from the show notes even Jayce, whose family occupies the upper middle class, was sent on educational excursions across Runeterra to explore the world and learn what it had to offer. Without Jayce's education abroad he would never have been inspired to pursue the concept hextech.

It's no wonder that the two figures that are set to be Piltover's biggest threats from Zaun are Jinx and Viktor, becasue they engaged in the same kinds of games and activities as their Piltovan counterparts.

Jinx didn't have an entire forest preserved to help her practice her sharpshooting like the high houses of Piltover, but she did excel in the few games at The Rift (the arcade) that built on her talents. She's the only Zaunite thus far who's long distance offensive is a strong counter to Piltover's forces.

Viktor couldn't travel the world like Jayce did, but for better or worse he managed to stumble into an opportunity to get real opportunity in research not offered to his peers through Singed. It was through that experience that Viktor knew to turn to Singed when he was at the end of his rope, and the consequences of that will be fully realized in season 2.

Ironically, the kind of skill the boxing game champions is only good for keeping other Zaunites in line. Vander's days of fighting Piltover were way behind him when we first met him, and Vi spends season 1 primarily fighting other Zaunites. It's no surprise the Zaunites who embody the old ideal of strength in Zaun that the game portrays, Vi and Vander, are largely at the mercy of Piltover and end up collaborating with them to avoid further harm.

Zaun's future as an independent city-state couldn't happen if they stuck to their old ideals. The people who stand a chance against Piltover are the ones that not only succeed but excel at playing Piltover's games against them.

When I say I want Lloyd to be a parent I mean that in the same sense that he never had a very stable parental figure— Everyone kept leaving and leaving Lloyd to figure stuff out on his own, the closest he’s had to a good parent may honestly have been Kai in s5, and even then they were separated for long periods of time. Every adult around Lloyd always had their own issues and realistically could never help with his.

Once I said as a joke that Lloyd was raised by only siblings and how that would impact his own ability to parent but I also meant that for real. Even if the oldest sibling is in charge that still doesn’t substitute for a parent, the relationship will always be different.

And Lloyd having no proper parental figure to show him how to act or handle a bunch of kids? He didn’t even have a childhood of his own, really, constantly put in charge of the world and of others, so how could he be expected not to continually ruin the childhood of these two? He doesn’t want that for those younger than him and who he now has to take care of but there is literally nothing else he knows. There is only so many times he can tell Arin to keep going before it gets too much and he has to tell this kid that Maybe It Just Wasn’t Meant To Be, meanwhile the other one, Sora, is following his footsteps almost perfectly— also bad, because by god he wants these children to be happy in their lives, but what can one do against Destiny at this point?

I want Lloyd to be wholly unprepared while being able to exactly tell where all of this is going, yet thoroughly convinced that there’s nothing he can do about it. Because he can’t. The only thing he can do it try and try and pray to his grandfather that these two kids in the family line will for once not be Destiny’s favorite, knowing it’s already too late.

she gives it all back the next day, but it is too late. daring has already begun his ascension into 3in1 man. he texts darling and dexter about all of the free time he suddenly has now that cleaning and manicuring himself can be done with one 10 minute shower every day instead of 5 hours of meticulous grooming every morning + night.

the uptick in fashion garments that look purposefully dirty as if recreating dirty work wear after a long day ... this is obviously a stupid ass thing to be bothered by but being a teenager and seeing how my dad would spend all day working as a mechanic in the garage of our house and then he'd go straight to a parent's meeting in the catholic school I attended without having time to shower so when he'd arrive his clothes smelled like gasoline, stained by the different chemicals he had to use and they had holes, the thought of the other parents who didn't work manual jobs who had money judging him always caused me stress. and now their kids grew up and they're wearing pants that look exactly like my dad's, stains, dirt, holes, ripped. yet they have never done manual labor in their lives and they probably despise the idea of getting their hands dirty. but they can do it for a look because everyone knows it's on purpose and they aren't actually dirty. bye as hell
