Awhile ago on Twitter I saw a peterick manip that I had a lot of fun pulling apart, and part of the fun is that I found out there was some pretty interesting history behind it. In the spirit of trying to use this blog more and being able to write a whole lot more over here I wanted to go into the whole thing in more detail.
Behold! If you're familiar with the Olde Internet and making horribly filtered graphics- things of this nature are very easy to identify. But since I see a lot of people both younger and older than me not spotting it, here's some tips. Different quality of images, different or nonsense light sources, etc. If it seems to good to be true, honey, it probably is- or whatever! But where did these images come from?
This photo is a composite of Patrick Stump (with Albert Maysles) at the CosmoGIRL! Born to Lead Awards on Nov 13, 2007 and Pete Wentz (with Ashlee Simpson) at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy Party on Feb 9, 2008. Here are both the original images and it overlaid at 40% opacity. I'm not still entirely convinced I found a photo of the right angle of the Pete and Ashlee kiss, but it has to be the same event.
Pete was the easiest to date his look and find. The hair length, the "adventurous" hat, the blazer- it all feels pretty typical of that era and his many photo ops with his now ex-wife. I was able to immediately find it by looking for images of Pete and Ashlee at events from 2008, but I wouldn't have needed that much precision to find it...
(See them peeking out from the bottom of this screenshot of the Google results for "Ashlee Simpson Pete Wentz Kiss")
Finding Patrick Stump however took atleast an hour because I had so much confidence his look was from early 2008. Jokes on me! On top of the event being pretty unknown it was actually from late 2007 and now I've seen so many photos of Patrick from those two years I can date specific haircuts down to the week. I'm deeply unhappy about this development.
Now someone might be asking: why the fuck was Albert Maysles hanging out with Fall Out Boy?
If you aren't familiar with the late Albert Maysles he was an American documentary filmmaker best known for the films he made with his brother David. Famously the Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter (1970) and often referenced and parodied documentary Grey Gardens (1975) which is more than I'm able to explain right now .
It was reported by Rolling Stones, MTV News and Indiewire (which I've pulled the below quotes from) that Albert Maysles had expressed interest and was in the process of making a documentary of Fall Out Boy and potentially Decaydance as a record label? Whatever happened to this project, I don't know! I occasionally look for information about it and find a lot of dead links/ends.
However, it is pretty interesting! And a neat piece of history I wouldn't have learned about if I wasn't trying to figure out how a peterick manip was made.

full teen vogue interview (from April 24th) is actually pretty interesting
Steve Yockey recalls, “George does such an incredible job of putting up a wall as Edwin. Some of the people that were auditioning against him didn’t respond to that very well, whereas Jayden leaned into it and was like, ‘Oh, you’re going to be difficult to connect with? Okay, I’m going to try 400%.’”
also "Fans also shouldn’t be surprised if the Dead Boy Detectives pop up on another show in the near future." 👀

S1E6 The Case of the Creeping Forest
We got canon height/weight/build/complexion/nationality/etc stats!
Also a list of coordinates, outfits (Edwin's constant waistcoats cracked me up), "known by"?
"Slight" and "Medium Slight" = Twinks confirmed?

Consider! Charles finds a camera that has been enchanted to make ghosts show up on film and is absolutely thrilled about it! They’ve got plenty of pics of the girls up and about the office, but it would be good to have some of the founding members, right? Edwin is not quite as enthused about the whole prospect as Charles, as photographs were quite the long, drawn out process back when he was alive. Also, although he does not mention this bit, after a hundred years without seeing it, he’s grown somewhat disconnected from his physical form as something that is his.
Charles is pretty convincing, though, and Edwin is far too willing to allow himself to be convinced when it comes to his friend. They rope in Crystal and she lines up the shot, Charles and Edwin with their arms around each other as they beam at the lens, and then she takes the photo and the flash goes off and when she blinks, the boys are both gone. Crystal calls out for them, but the office is small and it isn’t like there’s much space to hide. She considers that they both sunk through the floor and are fucking with her, but before she can give that particular option too much thought, the camera prints out a small picture.
As it develops, Crystal finds that it did manage to capture the boys’ likenesses, as well as their ghostly essences. The photo is frozen at the moment she took the picture as they both grin at the camera, but when she Reads it she can feel their fear and desperation as they are trapped in the film.
Now, it’s down to Crystal to figure out how to undo this curse and break them out!
