Why is no one talking about how monumental it is that Will's feelings for Mike were confirmed by the released S2 script for the Snowball? Like, beyond that script recontextualizing the whole of S2's Byler moments as undeniably romantically coded, I think it illustrates that the Duffer brothers were never unaware of how amibigiously Mike and Will's relationship presented. One of my biggest sources of Byler doubt has been that the (presumably) heterosexual, white Duffer brothers happened their way into gay subtext between Mike and Will while trying to craft an (overplayed, tired, predictable) unrequited, in-love-with-his-best-friend queer narrative for Will, but this has completely changed my mind. Because why would they put so much effort in showing how reciprocal Mike and Will's intense and intimate friendship was in S2 when they were already setting up Will's romantic feelings? Either they are really empathetic and sensitive to the complexity of queer feelings or they just wanted Will to suffer more by including so much ambiguity to Mike's actions, which I'm hoping is not the case. And furthermore, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that they were always planning for Byler, given that Will's queerness and Mike's insecurities + desire to perform "normalcy" by kissing a girl are evident from the original pitch. They were originally going to kill off Eleven which, in the context of S2 Mike and Will + Will's burgeoning romantic feelings, increases the likelihood of endgame Byler dramatically. Idk y'all, I'm freaking out because there's absolutely no way the Duffers could even pretend to be oblivious to the romantic subtext of Mike and Will's friendship when they were planning it since Season 2. They are so endgame y'all ahhh!!!

Also, the fact that even in the pitch Will is related to Mike (through DnD) makes me actually sick, like that's actually insane...

Do you know if they have had or currently have gay/queer writers that help with writing Mac's character? I assume they've never brought in like, "specialists" for any characters with different identities just cuz it either never occurred to them or it's not worth spending the budget on. Genuinely curious, not trying to bash them for not having that, I'd be surprised if any TV show went outta their way for that tbh.

No, but in all seriousness, I know Rob has spoken in the past about how he consulted a lot with his brother (who is already active on Sunny as their still photographer) for Mac’s coming out & acceptance arcs, but beyond Patrick they have never shared or discussed out queer writers on Sunny.. eh hem

I joke...I mean, I don't think it's ever appropriate to require someone to out themselves for the sake of proving there is representation behind the scenes.. but I do think it would be nice for some sense of that existing. (Although my reasons for wanting that are selfish because it's Sunny and proper representation is really not a key focus for them, like at all, lmfao)

I am glad Rob listened, took notes, and improved on Mac's coming out arc, however where they are now... I do not think they seek advice or consulting when it comes to the majority of the gay plots/jokes they make because considering the people they've already got, they don't need it

I think the most annoying part about all of this watcher shit is that if they had just originally said they'd be releasing content earlier and ad-free on their own website, none of this would've happened. Like sure maybe people would be a little bit upset/disappointed they couldn't afford to see things earlier, but at the very least they wouldn't have completely obliterated their reputation and ostracized their fan base. They just went about this in such a shitty and demeaning way and I'm glad they apologized and backpedaled, but I sincerely don't know how they come back from this, especially after it took them three days to respond. I don't know how their audience will ever be able to trust them again

filed away in my crackpot ideas drawer: drone valentine and tiny mike on a gig (for some reason)

love this concept, not least because these two would be experiencing totally different genres. tiny mike is having his loveable bastard emotional growth film where we see the rough-around-the-edges protagonist learn to work with his quirky, robotic companion who is inflexible in her methods and also likes to loom in dark hallways and be weird. at the end of the gig she follows him home and just kind of hangs out and he's stressing out a bit trying to figure out how he's gonna look after some rogue? AI? robot??? and schedule his life around that, and then when he wakes up the next morning and she's still chilling on his couch he's like "don't you have a place to go?" and she's like "yeah i guess. you wanna hang out?" and he figures sure, maybe he's invested enough now to figure out what kind of weird abandoned building she powers down in, only to be led to a damn nice apartment building to find out she's part of a polycule consisting of a dead guy living in her other body (johnny hates him out of a healthy sense of competition), her former coworker who used to be saburo arasaka's bodyguard (goro hates him on sight) and a millennial who is one of those scary oldskool netrunners but spends all her time teaching dance classes (vs hits on him almost as soon as he's through the door).

then we find out that valentine is in one of those films about being a confidence man where she's been talking directly to the camera (on the phone with vs) betting chat that she can definitely get this shmuck to think she's a rogue AI who is just starting to become emotionally aware and has imprinted on him.

and anyway if after all that tiny mike doesn't throw up his hands, return home, and vow never to do a decent thing again, I think they would be friends.
