Beautiful Poster Art Created with CSS & JavaScript – Speckyboy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Posters are among the most common art forms. You probably had a few of them on your wall as a child. They cover the full spectrum of people, places, and events.
They also serve as an inspiration for web designers. Their use of color and typography is part of how we see the world. We can see the impact all over the web.
What’s more, we can recreate and enhance the experience online. Goodies like 3D effects and animation bring posters to life. There’s also an element of interactivity. That can be just as powerful as a bold layout.
We wanted to see how designers are using their creativity. So, we perused the archives of CodePen for beautiful poster art. Here are some examples that use CSS, JavaScript, and other technologies. Enjoy!
Unlimited Downloads for Web Designers
Starting at just $16.50 per month, download 1,000s of HTML, Bootstrap, and Tailwind CSS, as well as WordPress themes and plugins with Envato Elements. You will also get unlimited access to millions of design assets, photos, video files, fonts, presets, addons, and much more.
Furiosa 3D Animated CSS Poster by Olivier 3lanc
Talk about a poster that’s brimming with life! This 3D rendering places the movie’s characters in a cut-out. The entire presentation looks like a diorama. Everything is powered by CSS – no JavaScript in sight.

Replicating & Animating Zürich Tonhalle’s Poster by Jon Yablonski
This snippet is part of a project that recreates iconic posters. The beauty here is in the minimal layout and bold typography. Animated lines add a modern touch to this classic.

CSS Grid Poster Exercise by Victoria Bergquist
A combination of Flexbox and CSS Grid fuels this example. The variation of shapes would seem nearly impossible to do without these tools. The included splash of color makes for a compelling result.

Donkey Kong Poster Collection by Daniel Fontes
Here’s a fun tribute to the past. Gamers will instantly recognize this series of images from Donkey Kong. The classic video game posters feature a fun lighting feature. Tug on the chain to illuminate your favorite poster. Bonus points for the flicker effect!

PPL MVR CSS & SVG Poster Designby Kristopher Van Sant
Band posters are a common theme among designers. Perhaps that’s because so many of us have them on our walls. This animated sequence takes inspiration from print artwork. And it’s another example of what CSS is capable of.

Grid Duotone Gradient Poster Design by Cassie Evans
The power of CSS Grid is real. The poster is beautiful and complex. Most impressively, the styles consist of less than 200 lines. A little code and a lot of imagination can go a long way.

Grunge Poster with the Wave Motion Effect by ilithya
Who can resist the retro vibes coming from this poster? It captures the look of the 1990s – complete with raining triangles. Move your cursor to change the perspective of the photo. It’s a far-out experience, for sure.

The Matrix Resurrections Digital Poster by Sparklingman
The Matrix movie series is known for a different kind of rain. This digital poster may appear simple. However, clicking on it shifts the green and black pattern. The effect is subtle – but fits beautifully with the movie’s aesthetic.

A New Take on a Classic Art Form
The examples above combine classic print sensibilities with online capabilities. It’s a fun exercise that goes beyond what’s hanging on your wall.
We may think of posters as being simplistic. But they also open a world of possibilities for designers. Thus, we can take this inspiration and run with it.
For example, posters may help us rethink traditional web layouts. Elements like vertical text and unique container shapes come to mind. They can serve as a launching pad for ideas.

45 Custom Social Network URL's for Sharing Content
Tumblr media
Social media sharing buttons are essential for any website to encourage users to share your content with their friends and followers. Adding share links to your website can help drive more traffic, increase engagement, and ultimately boost conversions. In this article, we'll provide a list of URLs that can be added to your website to create share links. Simply replace the tokens with the relevant data and you'll be good to go.
Why add Custom Links?
Plugins are slow. We can tailor custom code to only the style, and the links you want. Additional performance benefits can be granted by creating custom links that use your theme's features, such as Bootstrap or jQuery. In addition, sites using Icon Packs like FontAwesome, Ionicons and others may use their libraries to prevent even more code being added to the page.
Code Examples, to Auto-Update the Link, on click.
Here's a code snippet that you can use to achieve the desired functionality: JavaScript jQuery TypeScript document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() { let socialLinks = document.querySelectorAll(".social_link_example"); socialLinks.forEach(link => { link.addEventListener("click", function(event) { event.preventDefault(); let dataHref = this.getAttribute("data-href"); let currentUrl = window.location.href; let pageTitle = document.querySelector("h1").innerText; let pageDescription = document.querySelector("meta").getAttribute("content"); dataHref = dataHref.replace("%url%", encodeURIComponent(currentUrl)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("%title%", encodeURIComponent(pageTitle)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("scription%", encodeURIComponent(pageDescription)); window.open(dataHref, "_blank"); }); }); }); $(document).ready(function() { let socialLinks = $(".social_link_example"); socialLinks.each(function() { $(this).on("click", function(event) { event.preventDefault(); let dataHref = $(this).attr("data-href"); let currentUrl = window.location.href; let pageTitle = $("h1").text(); let pageDescription = $("meta").attr("content"); dataHref = dataHref.replace("%url%", encodeURIComponent(currentUrl)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("%title%", encodeURIComponent(pageTitle)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("scription%", encodeURIComponent(pageDescription)); window.open(dataHref, "_blank"); }); }); }); document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() { let socialLinks: NodeListOf = document.querySelectorAll(".social_link_example"); socialLinks.forEach((link: HTMLElement) => { link.addEventListener("click", function(event: MouseEvent) { event.preventDefault(); let dataHref: string | null = this.getAttribute("data-href"); let currentUrl: string = window.location.href; let pageTitle: string = document.querySelector("h1")!.innerText; let pageDescription: string = document.querySelector("meta")!.getAttribute("content")!; if (dataHref) { dataHref = dataHref.replace("%url%", encodeURIComponent(currentUrl)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("%title%", encodeURIComponent(pageTitle)); dataHref = dataHref.replace("scription%", encodeURIComponent(pageDescription)); window.open(dataHref, "_blank"); } }); }); }); This code will add a click event listener to all elements with the class .social_link_example. When clicked, it replaces the tokens %url%, %title%, and scription% in the data-href attribute with the current page URL, the text of the first
element on the page, and the content of the page's meta description, respectively. Finally, it opens the share link in a new browser window. You can customize this code to match your website's structure and add more tokens if needed. Make sure to include this code within your HTML file or include it as an external script.

The ARM GCC cross-compiler saga
I love macOS and ever since I switched to it in 2018, it has become my favourite platform of all time. However, the thing is that I develop software for embedded Linux devices pretty often too.
Since the devices themselves usually have a stripped down firmware as well as are generally underpowered, the best way to speed up the development process and to make it easier and more comfortable in general is to use a cross-compiler toolchain. On Linux, it’s pretty easy to build one yourself or use Linaro’s pre-compiled GCC binaries if your target uses an ARM processor. On macOS, however, the building process does have some caveats.
One of the things that make compiling a cross-toolchain on macOS targeting Linux is that macOS by default uses a case-insensitive file system, which makes building glibc for the target almost impossible. This can be easily worked around by creating a read-write DMG image containing a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Case-sensitive) or APFS (Case-sensitive) partition, mounting it and storing the sources and build directories there.
Compiling the Linux kernel from macOS doesn't really work that well. Usually, you can't get past the configuration step successfully - even the install_headers target fails miserably. A workaround for that would be getting existing kernel headers as a package for the target system and unpacking it manually. For example, if your target runs a distro compatible with RHEL/Fedora, then you can get a pre-built kernel-headers package matching the kernel version of your Linux device and unpacking it manually. This will require compiling RPM, though, or installing it through Homebrew (which is faster).
When it comes to anything else, the build process is mostly similar to the one described in many many available guides on the net. But here is a short guided command-line snippet that will get you going with an ARM64 GCC toolchain for Fedora Linux 33 (use this as a reference). Just changing the toolchain target string ($LINUXARMBRAND) to the one matching your target platform should probably be enough in most cases to get a working toolchain for it.
# set the prefix and the target string variables accordingly $ export LINUXARMTC=/usr/local/builds/gcc-cross-arm64-linux $ export LINUXARMBRAND=aarch64-redhat-linux-gnu # get binutils and gcc $ curl -o- http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/gnu/binutils/binutils-2.36.tar.xz | tar -xvJf - $ curl -o- http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/gnu/gcc/gcc-9.1.0/gcc-9.1.0.tar.xz | tar -xvJf - # build rpm as well as some of its dependencies # 1. build libmagic $ curl -o- http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/f/file/file_5.39.orig.tar.gz | tar -xvzf - $ cd file-5.39 && sh configure --prefix=$LINUXARMTC --enable-static --disable-shared && make -j6 && make install $ cd .. # 2. build openssl $ curl -o- https://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.1.1i.tar.gz | tar -xvzf - $ cd openssl-1.1.1i && perl Configure no-hw no-shared no-zlib no-asm --prefix=$LINUXARMTC darwin64-x86_64-cc && make -j6 && make install $ cd .. # 3. build rpm itself $ curl -o- http://ftp.rpm.org/releases/rpm-4.16.x/rpm-4.16.0.tar.bz2 | tar -xvjf - $ cd rpm-4.16.0 && CFLAGS="-I$LINUXARMTC/include" LDFLAGS="-L$LINUXARMTC/lib" LIBS="-lbz2 -lz" sh configure --prefix=$LINUXARMTC --disable-shared --enable-static --with-crypto=openssl --without-archive --disable-plugins --without-lua --disable-openmp $ echo 'void main() {}' > rpmspec.c && make -j6 && make install # 4. build make $ curl -o- http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/gnu/make/make-4.3.tar.gz | tar -xvzf - $ cd make-4.3 && sh configure --prefix=$LINUXARMTC && make -j6 && make install $ cd .. # 5. build bison $ curl -o- http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/gnu/bison/bison-3.7.5.tar.xz | tar -xvJf - $ cd bison-3.7.5 && sh configure --disable-nls --prefix=$LINUXARMTC && make -j6 && make install # get fedora kernel headers $ mkdir rpmextract && cd rpmextract $ curl -o kernel.rpm http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/fedora/linux/updates/33/Everything/aarch64/Packages/k/kernel-headers-5.10.11-200.fc33.aarch64.rpm $ $LINUXARMTC/bin/rpm2cpio kernel.rpm | tar -xvf - # install them into a sysroot $ mkdir -p $LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND $ mv -v include $LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND $ cd ../.. # build binutils $ cd binutils-2.36 && mkdir build && cd build && sh ../configure --target=$LINUXARMBRAND --prefix=$LINUXARMTC --disable-multilib --disable-werror --disable-libquadmath --disable-libquadmath-support && make -j6 && make install $ cd ../.. # build gcc (stage 1) $ export PATH="$LINUXARMTC/bin:$PATH" $ cd gcc-9.1.0 && sh contrib/download_prerequisites --no-isl --no-graphite && mkdir build && cd build && sh ../configure --prefix=$LINUXARMTC --target=$LINUXARMBRAND --with-static-standard-libraries --disable-libquadmath --disable-libquadmath-support --enable-ld=yes --enable-languages=c,c++ $ make -j6 all-gcc $ make install-gcc # bootstrap glibc $ cd glibc-2.32 && mkdir build && cd build && BISON=$LINUXARMTC/bin/bison MAKE=$LINUXARMTC/bin/make ../configure --prefix=$LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND --host=$LINUXARMBRAND --target=$LINUXARMBRAND --with-headers=$LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND/include --disable-multilib --disable-werror $ make install-bootstrap-headers=yes install-headers $ make -j6 csu/subdir_lib $ install csu/crt1.o csu/crti.o csu/crtn.o $LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND/lib $ $LINUXARMTC/bin/aarch64-redhat-linux-gnu-gcc -nostdlib -nostartfiles -shared -x c /dev/null -o $LINUXARMTC/$LINUXARMBRAND/lib/libc.so # build gcc (stage 2) $ cd ../../gcc-9.1.0/build && touch /usr/local/builds/fedora33-arm64-gcc/aarch64-redhat-linux-gnu/include/gnu/stubs.h && make -j6 all-target-libgcc && make install-target-libgcc # finish glibc $ cd ../../glibc-2.32/build && touch testrun.shT debugglibc.shT iconvdata/MIK.so iconvdata/ISO_11548-1.so iconvdata/ISO8859-9E.so iconvdata/CP77{0,1,2,3,4}.so iconvdata/KOI8-RU.so iconvdata/MAC-CENTRALEUROPE.so && make -j6 && make install # build gcc (stage 3) $ cd ../../gcc-9.1.0/build && make -j6 && make install

Constructing a social network
Originally published here: http://acord-robotics.github.io/blog.html
Tumblr media
We’re all on social media, and we’re always on the lookout for groups around the interwebs that house people with similar interests to us. We comment on forum boards and say our thoughts in the replies of various blog posts, but what’s the best way to make your own social network that is engaging and people will use?
Tumblr media
Since 2016, I, and AC0/RD have used Wordpress (a content management system that incidentally is the software used for over 25% of the world’s websites) for our social media. I never paid much attention to the comments system on Wordpress, because the main stuff happened on the forums, and I considered the comments section to just be for non-members posting comments on the blog posts (at the time, our website was entirely log-in only and that’s why comments were not high up on the priority list for us). However, comments systems like Disqus can be used for a type of forum, and that’s one of the things I’ll be talking about in this post.
Things a social network need:
Your website is a social network if it has any of the following types of user interaction:
Games - for example web-based RPGs
Comments sections - mainly used in blog posts
Q&A Forums
Support Forums
Community Forums
User profiles
User gamification
User groups
“Your dashboard is a great place to keep track of all the activity from your users
I’m going to over each of these in-depth over the course of this post. I’d also recommend checking out my post on HTML dashboards as it’s a good way to get all the community traffic in one place.
Most platforms that are used by developers can do most of the things mentioned above, but it can take a bit of fiddling around if you use a static site platform like Bootstrap, Jekyll or GoHugo. I’d recommend checking out Codepen for code snippets, which you can then modify yourself to fit your needs. If you’re using Wordpress or another CMS, it’s easy enough to set-up - just install a plugin like Buddypress or PeepSo. You do want to make sure that you don’t have too many plugins installed on Wordpress, though, as it runs the risk of your site loading incredibly slowly (at our “peak”, the AC0/RD website was taking upwards of 15 seconds to load)…
Let’s take a look at the best platforms for creating a social network:

The most Notable Free Angular Templates that every Angular App Development Team must have!
Tumblr media
An Angular template is an HTML snippet that provides instructions on how to do the rendering of components within an Angular app.
Some of the major benefits of using Angular templates are:
Provides a clear boundary by separating the view layer from the other parts of the framework
Ability to transform the templates during the compilation of the code.
Separates the dynamic and static parts of the view that enables developers to speedily look at the structure of the view and figure out how it can change.
When the framework leverages templates, the data-access integration library can derive the queries from the templates easily.
Allows the framework to convert static text from one language to the other without involving any runtime cost.
Hence, the usage of templates forms a crucial part of Angular app development projects.

Fun Examples of SVG Shape Usage in Web Design
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/fun-examples-of-svg-shape-usage-in-web-design/
Fun Examples of SVG Shape Usage in Web Design
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) make for versatile design elements. They can be intricate or simplistic. You can combine them with animation and special effects. And they’re inherently responsive.
It’s no wonder that web designers have taken to the format. SVG adds a new level of flexibility compared to pixel-based images. They are a perfect match for modern design. Plus, browser support is universal.
As such, we went on a search for examples of SVG shapes. The goal was to find a diverse collection of implementations. Curious about what’s possible? Take a look at these eight fun examples of SVG shapes in action.
The Web Designer Toolbox
Unlimited Downloads: HTML & Bootstrap Templates, WordPress Themes & Plugins, and much, much more!
Simple CSS Waves by Goodkatz
Divider graphics are a natural fit for the SVG format. These images stay razor-sharp on every screen. The animated waves in this snippet add a touch of elegance. Even better, mobile users can enjoy the feature without a performance hit.

SVG Image Unveiled by Silvia Gioia Florio
Here’s an example of what SVG masking effects can do. Watch as polygons fall from this tree to reveal a masked image. CSS and JavaScript are used to power the animation. This effect used to require the likes of Photoshop and Flash. No need for those heavy tools anymore.

SVG Shape Page Transitions by Pixelbuilders
We can use SVG to create compelling page transitions. Click the “hamburger” menu or scroll to unleash a drip effect. It’s as if the screen is melting right before our eyes. And it’s sure to grab a user’s attention.

Liquid UI Elements by Aaron Iker
Mundane elements like radio buttons and checkboxes also benefit from SVG. This snippet features common form elements dressed up with slick animations. It adds a highly-polished look that is miles ahead of the default.

SVG Flowers Login Screen by Meg Wayne
SVG doesn’t have to be the centerpiece of an element. It can also flourish in a decorative role. Here, a single shape is repeated and styled via CSS. Each variation creates depth and beauty.

SVG Adaptive Gradient by Andros GuiradĂł
This snippet uses SVG filter effects to create a noisy gradient. The animated waves stretch across the viewport. It might be a neat addition to a footer area.

Blend-Mode Sticky Navigation by Jalin Burton
There are a few implementations of SVG in this snippet. But our primary focus is the curved background. It’s a key element in the presentation. The added text and video combine to create a jaw-dropping effect.
See the Pen Blend-Mode Sticky Nav &Hero by Jalin Burton
SVG Animated Drum Kit by Josh
Let’s finish this collection with a bang. Don’t have a drum kit handy? You can always play this virtual set. SVG is used to power the graphics. Meanwhile, some spot-on sounds bring them to life. Here we go, Ringo!
See the Pen SVG Animated Drum Kit (Play Me!) by Josh
Adding Shape to Your Design
SVG has become a staple of web design. The format comes with plenty of advantages. And we can use it to create effects that used to require hacks.
All told SVG is among the most powerful tools we have. It adds a world of possibilities for design, movement, and interactivity. What’s not to love?
Check out our CodePen collection for even more examples of SVG shapes. You might find the perfect use case for your next project.
