(also feel free in the tags to clarify Why you made the choice you made!! :0c)
#polls#tumblr polls#For me I think the top ones would be the House. The Money. or the Friend Group. But I ultimately might would go for the house#JUST becuase it would be my Dream House which means it would already meet mostly all of my specifications#and what I might be looking for. which would save a lot of time searching or customizing/rennovating.#Also because I could use that as a way to leave the US lol.. like .. if I get to choose my dream location.. couldnt I just choose some othe#country?? But I wonder how that works. Can you legally 100% have full ownership of a property in a country yet not be a citizen of that#country?? Would you show up and be like 'erm.. i own this house.. so i shall now live in it' and theyd be like 'uh no. you cant live here#despite owning the house. leave.' ??#So I think the initial process of 1. scraping together funds to actually MOVE myself and my most valuable belongings physically#TO another country. and 2. figuring out how to STAY in that country . might end up being difficult.. BUT. if I could just work that#part of things out then.. dream house?? security for once in my life?? stability?? :0#Though the $1mil is enticing it's also like.. I feel .. with the way housing prices are now... that's not much???#it's a lot I guess if you plan on like.. investing half the money and staying in an apartment for 5 years while you grow your wealth#or something. but if you're a 'I Need Stability NOW' ready to settle down person who would be most interested in owning a property rather#than nice clothes or a car or whatever other investments you could make then.. eh..?? It seems like unless you're okay with living in#a small town or kind of far away from the city - even some SMALL houses in majorly populated areas in the US will be like#$600.000 - $900.000 or something. like that would be MOST of my money. Which I know you could just pay partially and make#payments on it but idk.. in the option of just outright owning the house it seems like it'd end up being cheaper.#Plus I would want to own it fully asap because I'd be afraid of losing it somehow otherwise. like it being taken for medical bills or#something. which I thought was supposed to be - not IMPOSSIBLE - slightly more complicated legally if you actually have#paid off the house in full. I guess the issue then would be utilities and property tax and such. But I feel like thats overcome-able??#Like I could just stipulate that my Dream House has a little furnished addition or something and then find someone#with money and be like 'Look you can live in this extremely nice area with amazing ameneties and updated everything and ALL you have#to do is give me money to cover the utilities and property tax.'' or something like that. Like the little furnished addition is nicer#than the actual house. they have their own pool and spa and movie room or something and Ill also cook all their meals for them#or whatever (how luxurious it would be depeneds on how high the property tax actually is/how much I would need to entice them into#why it's a good deal for them to pay it for me lol). idk... something like that.. ANYWAY#I asked a few people I know though and one of them answered they'd rather have a romantic partner. the other one said they'd like#to be able to choose someone to die lol.. So I'm curious what people value the most

the brainrot is telling me to do an evil karlach origin play through
#i feel like teaming up with gortash as karlach might get you some pretty stellar lines#especially if it's a version of her that's become ruthless and pragmatic#no way he wouldn't appreciate that#to see someone go through hell and come out exactly the same way he did#it would really confirm his worldview#maybe he'd even be kind of proud#and then of course she would betray him in the end#i feel like it'd be funny to get him all the way to the morphic pool and then kill him at the last minute#i'm not even sure if you can do that mechanically but it's like... give him so much false hope only to dash it at the last possible moment#that's vengeance baby#and you don't even have to harm the steel watch so you can repurpose them for yourself#god i don't know if i have it in me to start this game over for a fourth time though. this soon.#maybe i'll just write fanfic about it#the weird thing about npcs also being playable characters is you can play them massively out of character#which feels off but also like well yeah they're player characters in that scenario so the player has to have the choice#otherwise what's the point#it feels different with durge because they're not there if you don't pick them plus you can customize their appearance#so they feel more your own#plus the memory loss easily explains any change in personality#but it is also fun to explore the idea of alternate path lines for these characters that would never happen if they're npcs#i also kinda wanna do an astarion orgin with a minthara romance because i've heard they're really good together#apparently minthara is highly turned on if he ascends. naturally.#and she starts calling him “lord astarion” totally unprompted haha#god an evil wyll run would be horrible too... fuck i bet you can do the mizora sex scene with wyll that's fucked up#oh god if you're evil karlach too imagine tricking wyll into betraying mizora for you only to turn out to be everything he feared you were#💔

One of the biggest problems of writing that Frasier post is that the logic of 90s comedies is not real life logic. It's not just that you can just pick which exaggerated thing to believe more (and sometimes you need to outright pick between two mutually excluding canon facts), but also the degree to which you believe anything. Which is fun for theorizing but also terrible for theorizing because to argue one way or another you need to create the fiction that the coherent narrative you are pointing out has value of truth in a universe where the value of truth is the rule of funny.
#This I'm saying about Frasier applies to others btw of course#like The Nanny suffers from those very same problems too#plus prestige tv in the early 2000s really messed with people's understanding of the extreme make-up-as-you-go quality of older tv#It's acknowledged with Cheers for the most part#But like yes Maris becomes more and more of a monster as seasons go by because the creators did take a direction after a few seasons#but seasons 1 and 2 at the very list (of Frasier I mean) are VERY undecided on whether they are going to save Niles and Maris' marriage#or take the Daphne route#And there's so much about expected genre tropes and the structure of sitcoms involved in those decisions!#the rule of funny being the main rule of a world above that of coherence and plausibility truly is a double edged sword#Like I'm confident I can write a narrative as to why Maris is actually not a monster at all in the first seasons of Frasier#And that at the very least some of the jokes are not meant to be taken seriously#but then to prove that I would have to point out all the times the narrative shows Niles mirroring Maris' bad traits#which of course are also ruled by the rule of funny!#Niles worrying about Maris ogling the pool boy while he's been ogling Daphne#Niles talking fondly of how one of their favorite past times when they were just married#was to laugh at people who wore white after labor day!#someone else could of course believe THESE are the ones played more for comedic effect#and believe the meanness of Maris as more real#(again still talking those early seasons)#and like it's not that serious#horrible people can be entertaining and comedy capitalizes on that#it's the emotional equivalent to the physical violence in old cartoons#it's not supposed to be realistic and taking it to be so is silly#on the other hand reimaging how the characters and the story could go in different directions#if the story WAS a drama is deeply compelling#but then how to convey you are just having fun theorizing the dramatic possibilities of unserious comedy#without coming across as if you were taking the comedy to be a drama#see the tough spot I'm in

are you okay with characters from the guardians of ga'hoole books not appearing in legend of the guardians: the owls of ga'hoole like hortance/mist, streak and zan, aunt finny, ruby, martin and octavia?
Oh yeah absolutely. This blog's header and icon haven't been updated since I made it so sorry if it gives the movie exclusive impression. I'm more on the book side and it'd be kinda weird if it was only movie characters.
So yes, book characters are fine, thank you!

i was having a mild flu, and i remembered my most niche dragon age theory: that similarly to flemeth holding mythal's soul, arl eamon was holding elgar'nan.
so without further ado, let's look at arl eamon for a minute
there's one mildly interesting thing about his codex entry - his relationship with teagan. teagan wanted to avoid politics and just be a knight, and was set on that... until he talked to eamon in person after years of not seeing him, and then quickly hung up his dreams and became a bann like eamon wanted.
cailan also describes him as not memorable or particularly charismatic, which is odd in contrast to how quickly he turned teagan's life goals around, and how he even got isolde to fall for him while their countries were literally at war and he was doing guerrilla warfare against her family as occupiers. like cailan may be a bit dumb, but is he that dumb? unless eamon is intentionally acting a particular way around cailan (why? cailan already trusts him), or he's somehow giving everyone the impression he's dull and not of much notice despite getting his way in conversations a lot...
anyway, in DAO: you show up in redcliffe to ask for eamon's help. when you arrive, he is in a coma, to the point where everyone would have given up on him in a pre-modern medicine setting, and even magical healing doesn't work on him. he is in BAD shape. literally no way to cure him or wake him by any means anybody knows of.
it's also weird that somehow jowan's shitty assassination attempt managed to put him into SUCH a specific condition. how did a blood mage somehow fail to kill one old man, and instead put him into a medically stable coma? he's not dead, but he's not getting any better, he doesn't seem to be in pain, and he's not conscious at all. even if we assume that connor's demon was keeping him alive, why would his condition remain stable after you kill it? there are no IV lines in thedas, even keeping him from wasting away would be a struggle.
and instead of going "thoughts and prayers. anyway, congratulations on becoming the new arl, teagan", for some reason, everyone thinks: "yes, a logical thing to do during this combination civil war/blight/undead outbreak in redcliffe, is to go on a quest for the holy grail <3"
outside of video game logic, this is a wild thing to do. while it's unlikely the fereldens would be ok with isolde (orlesian) and her kid (spooky) being the new line for the arl, teagan is right there and pretty well-liked. and sending both eamon's knights, and the only two grey wardens still alive, on an indefinitely long wild goose chase for an artifact no one has seen in thousands of years is actually nuts.
and yet everyone does this! somehow it succeeds! and it is unavoidable that eamon gets juiced up with... whatever is actually in andraste's ashes. how convenient for eamon.
my theory is: eamon is not a regular mortal. while he wasn't expecting the assassination attempt, he survived a dose of poison that would've killed anybody else, then put himself into a uthenera-esque state to stay alive, while psychically beaming a "FIND ME THE ASHES" instruction to everyone nearby.
as the host of elgar'nan's soul, he knew that the ashes of andraste existed and would fix him. there are also some codex entries implying that andraste wasn't fully human, and may not have even "died" in the fire, as well as the elven ruins and lyrium deposits in the temple - if eamon wanted power beyond being cured, the ashes may have been a good way to get it.
bonus round of increasingly circumstantial evidence! mythal was betrayed by elgar'nan. if we look at flemeth vs eamon, it's an interesting contrast:
eamon is commanding an army, living in a nice castle, has a loyal brother, a hot younger wife, and is either a pivotal power player in ferelden, or the actual power behind the throne if alistair is king. whatever the long term beneficial effects of being exposed to the ashes are, he's got them. elgar'nan is associated with fatherhood, and so is eamon, but in a warped way - his plot revolves around his son being first isolated due to his magic, then getting possessed and nearly dying while trying to protect eamon, as well as his mistreatment of alistair. which is all kind of the opposite of a "father protecting his children".
flemeth is living alone in a swamp with her daughter, occasionally seducing and/or killing men, and has no real pawns on the board except morrigan and the warden and possibly hawke. she is also trying to gain power through the old god souls. flemeth is also, of course, associated with mythal's domain of motherhood, but in a warped way, of being extremely toxic to her daughters and raising them to be nothing but vessels for possession.
if we consider the in-universe hints of flemeth's statements about being betrayed, and about men in power, it fits well if their current situation is the result of that! a long-running shadow conflict between two body-hopping evanuris fragments, where elgarn'nan has the slight upper hand from taking the first shot and betraying mythal. he has the capability to pick hosts that are out in the "open" as political players and live a pretty luxurious life, while mythal is hounded by templars and forced into a swamp.
and! if we consider it from a narrative perspective! to me, it would actually be really satisfying if one of the real scary antagonists was a seemingly generic guy in a position of power, that had been overlooked all along. forget corypheus being ten feet tall and yelling about the black city and having chunks of lyrium in his face, the real threat being a Nice Old Man With Political Aspirations hits so much harder as a twist tbh.
