THE DIMENSIONS AND THEIR RULING SPECIES
Get ready for an unnecessarily long lore dump about my Minecraft AU: CAELORIA, THE LAST ISLANDERS.
Before we begin however, I'd like to give credit to the person who inspired this tweet + the layout of this post in general! @oldmagerambles! Go check out their stuff for some more cool Minecraft world building stuff! :]
Now, let us begin...

THE FIRST REALM: OLYTHOS (The Overworld)
(Pronounced "Oh-LITH-ohs")
A vibrant, earth-like realm of large grasslands, scattered islands, and hidden gemstone veins buried underneath the surface. Olythos is the world of creation, full of life and endless possibility, a monument to creation and creativity themselves. It was once a paradise, but its peopleâs greed led to war and destruction, and by modern day (Classic MC) the world is no longer the lush paradise it once was, now divided into scattered biomes and islands.
By the time of Minecraft Legends: three main species had overtaken Olythos.
SPECIES ONE: THE AEDARI (The Builders)
(Pronounced "Ah-DA-ri")
These were the pioneering artisans who shaped the very world into what it is today. The Aedari were once the dominant race of the world, their mastery over magic and creation making them unrivaled. Their downfall came from their own hubris, overharvesting the land of its resources and angering the primordial forces. Banished to the Isles of Nysithea, they now exist as the mutated Abysswalkers.
Before their unwilling exile to The Isles of Nysithea, they had split into three great nations:
The Xilathari also known as the Vinebound.
A jungle-dwelling people who built hidden temples and hunted massive beasts such as The Great Sniffer. Inspired by the vine-entwined jungles and the militant, temple-building cultures of ancient Mesoamerica and Africa.
The Khetraim, also known as the Sunforged.
Desert dwellers who sought the secrets of life and death itself, worshipping the celestial Hosts of Foresight, Action and Knowledge. Their massive pyramids still stand as evidence of their grand rituals. This subset is based on the cultures of ancient Egypt and the Middle East.
The Pelagonites, also known as the Deepwardens.
A once-great maritime people, their monuments and war fleets were drowned in the Maelstrom. Heavily inspired by Mediterranean culture.

SPECIES TWO: THE KHARI (The Villagers)
(Pronounced "KAH-ree")
A second subset of humanoid beings that seemingly sprouted after the builders did. They're a peaceful, agrarian people who learned to coexist with nature rather than dominate it. They are a settled society, unlike the Aedari, which were nomadic.
They're a tribe made up of a religious, vegetarian series of craftsmen, scholars, and hard workers who work together to keep the village stable. As mentioned previously, they learned to live alongside the land and not against it, and that's the reason why they're the largest surviving race as of modern day. Also, something happened genetically which led to all villagers (and subsequentially, Illagers), having distinct larger noses and unibrows, a trait not shared by builders.
These traits might have become adaptive, helping villagers detect hidden dangers or even suspicious activity in their environment. The builders, being nomadic and exposed to a wider genetic diversity, simply didnât experience this same bottleneck, keeping their features more varied compared to Villagers.

SPECIES THREE: THE VOL'KAR (The Illagers)
(Pronounced "VOLL-kar")
The first and only evolutionary(?) subset of the Khari. They started off as weaker villagers, whose immune systems hadn't exactly adapted as well as other villagers, which meant that when builders arrived, all their viruses came with, which led to illagers gaining slightly greyer skin.
Eventually, when the war against the NehenâVur's Boargrims rose up, they had learned how to be violent, fighting alongside the Aedari to protect their home realm from this invasive species. They now saw themselves as the priests of The Hosts, divine cleansers who were brought on this realm to purge the Olythos of all those unworthy and weak. This caused a sort of blood lust, and so, they begin tampering with violence, even following the path of the Aedari and experimenting with magic capable of controlling life and death, and they succeed, creating totems of undying! Their magical discoveries led to allyships between the Aedari and the Vol'kar in the construction of things like the Trial Chambers and Ancient Cities.
Eventually, this subset was kicked out of villages due to unspeakable activities featuring the use of Lapis Lazuli and the construction of Ravagers. These outcasts turned to war and dark magics, fully developing a taste for conquest.
Now that we've covered the three ruling species of Olythos, let's move on to our second dimension.

THE SECOND REALM: NEHEN'VUR (The Nether)
(Pronounced âNeh-HEN-vurâ)
The polar opposite to the realm of Olythos. While Olythos is a land of vibrance and life, Nehen'vur is a dimension with no love, no joy, no creativity at all! The land is segmented into multiple floating islands and mountainous, desert-like landscapes separated by seas of boiling lava. However, the existence of Basalt Deltas implies that this place used to be hospitable, even frozen over! However, any remnant of that ice age is long gone by now. Only one civilization stands high and proud, ruling the Nether with an ironâ or more fittinglyâ a golden fist.
SPECIES ONE: THE BOARGRIMS (The Piglins)
The Boargrims are a militaristic civilization that has not only survived but thrived within the blazing hellscape of Nehenâvur. Despite the brutal terrain, the choking heat, and the endless threats lurking within the infernal realm, the Boargrims created a semi-successful structured society. They are not mere brutes, they have warriors, miners, chiefs, butchers, and even musicians, having created the only known music in the Nehenâvur: Pigstep. However, this isn't how it always was.
The Ice Age of Nehenâvur predates its current infernal state by many years. This environment is where the Boargrims first came to be. Life was difficult, sure, but it was survivable. It was the Boargrims, in their relentless drive to dominate Nehenâvur, who changed everything. As their civilization advanced, they turned from mere warriors into an industrial powerhouse, forging machines of war, great bastions, and smelteries that churned out Netherite weapons and armor in unprecedented numbers. Their rise to power was accompanied by rapid expansion, massive blackstone factories, soul-fueled engines, and vast industrial zones scarred the landscape. But with progress came consequence. The very machines that propelled the Boargrims to dominance also choked the sky with smoke and fumes, flooding Nehenâvur with greenhouse gases. The glaciers that had once defined the realm began to crack and melt, and the permafrost that coated the ancient terrain turned to slush. Rivers of ice became floods of molten lava, entire ecosystems collapsed, and in mere generations, Nehenâvur was transformed into the blazing hellscape it is today.
The Boargrims had succeeded in reshaping their world, but at a terrible cost. The cooling balance that had once allowed them to expand vanished forever, leaving behind a land of eternal fire and suffocating heat. The industrial empire they built could no longer sustain them, and their ambition to rule pushed them toward their next goal: Olythos, the realm beyond.
But they were met with bitter resistance. The Aedari and Khari tribes united against them, casting them back into the fiery hellscape of Nehenâvur. With their attempt at spreading their empire failed, the Boargrims were forced to retreat to the ruins of their former empire, struggling to reclaim even a fraction of what they once held.
Their once-thriving empire now lies in ruin. The Boargrims were not always in this post-apocalyptic state. They were once the undisputed rulers of Nehenâvur, constructing blackstone fortresses, towering obsidian citadels, and weapons of pure Titanite, the strongest material known to boarkind. Unlike the Aedari and Khari, who relied on magic, the Boargrims mastered machines, steam-driven war engines, great smelteries, and monstrous siege weapons. But, now all of that is gone. The Titanite they once used is now scattered deep below ground, and in small Titanite scraps. Now, they only have the next best thing: Gold. Gold holds an almost sacred value among them, not just as a resource but as a symbol of status, wealth, and survival. Their entire trade economy revolves around it, and they adorn themselves with golden armor and ornaments, marking their hierarchy and distinguishing themselves from the mindless Goretusks (Hoglins), feral beasts that share their brutish ancestry but none of their intellect, behaving like wild animals.
Their society has definitely fallen from its glory days, even if they're still surviving and thriving within Nehen'vur. However, they're not the only society to fall from grace...
THE THIRD REALM: NYSITHEA (The End)
(Pronounced "Nih-SITH-ee-uh")
Once proud architects of Olythos, the Aedari fell to their own hubris, unleashing an ancient horror that shattered their world apart: The Wither. As punishment, they were exiled into Nysithea, an abyssal void painted with floating desaturated islands, the end of the line, where they were stripped of their humanity and reshaped by the realmâs natural magical telepathic and telportation properties.
The Aedari's obsession with escape led them to slaughter all but the final of the great dragons, harvesting their wings in a futile attempt to break free from Nysithea. This act of desecration sealed their fate, binding them eternally to the abyss and mutating them into the creatures that now haunt the void: The Abyssdwellers, also known as The Voidwalkers.
SPECIES ONE: THE ABYSSWALKERS (The Endermen)
The Abysswalkers are the only living remnants of the Aedari, their bodies elongated and warped by centuries of abyssal exposure. Silent and watchful, they retain some manner of their old intelligence, though it is now buried beneath eons of mutation, only able to communicate through warbled and distorted speech. They are obsessed with structure, instinctively rearranging blocks in a futile attempt to reconstruct the homes they lost. They have the ability to warp across landscapes and dimensions, constantly teleporting in a final near futile attempt to return home. Some manage to teleport back to Olythos successfully, but unfortunately, most are left to wander the vast desaturated isles of Nysithea until the day they die.
SPECIES TWO: THE UMBRITHALLS (The Enderlings)
The broken, malformed children of the Abysswalkers, mutated further into monstrous shapes. Their minds have fully succumbed to the abyss of Nysithea, driven by nothing but hunger and rage. Unlike the Voiddwellers, the Umbrithralls are purely predatory, their forms grotesque and unstable. They have multiple variants, such as: The Veylkin, The Thrynnkin, and The Nyzokin (The Watchlings, The Blastlings, and The Snarelings from Dungeons). These beings infest the ruins of the Shattered Bastion.
SPECIES THREE: THE DREADSENTINELS (The Endersents)
Carved from the bones of The Isles of Nysithea itself, the Dreadsentinels are eternal guardians, each charged with protecting a Severed Eye (Eye of Ender), a relic that could potentially re-open the gateways to Olythos. Unlike its lesser variants, the Dreadsentinels retain individuality, each bearing a name and a function within the abyss.
- Vorrâkaal : The Savage Eye
- Kyrox : The Ravenous Eye
- Xyrrith : The Blight Eye
- Tzaâlaar : The Reaping Eye
- Velmuth : The Binding Eye
- Druun : The Spiked Eye
Each Dreadsentinel is bound to their Severed Eye, and should all six be gathered, they hold the power to reopen the Rift of Olythos.
SPECIES FOUR: THE VOIDSPAWN (The Endermites)
The Voidspawn are more than mere pests, they are larval forms of Voiddwellers, a part of themselves released from shattered Void..pearl? (I still haven't come up with a satisfying name for them.) Each Voidspawn is an embryonic Abysswalker, a piece of an Endermanâs soul splintered into an insectile form. Over time, should they consume enough of the voidâs essence, they undergo a metamorphosis, shedding their hard purple shells and growing into a full-fledged Voiddweller. This process is slow, but it is the key to the Abyssdwellers' asexual reproduction.
SPECIES FIVE... Kinda... : THE RESTLESS HEART (Heart of Ender)
The Orb of Dominance itself. Some say it is the abyss itself, an unfathomable intelligence that lurks beneath the fabric of reality. Others claim it is the very entity the Aedari sought to destroy in Olythos. Some call it god. Some call it power. And should the Severed Eyes ever be reunited, the Restless Heart will stir once more, its waking heralding the return of something far worse than exile... annihilation.
SPECIES FIVE (ACTUALLY THIS TIME:) THE FINAL ASCENDANT (The Ender Dragon, aka Jean)
Before the Aedari's exile, Nysithea was ruled by a pantheon of Ascendants, primordial dragons that flew in the dark night sky. The Aedari, in their arrogance, hunted them down, believing they could harvest their power to return home. With her kin slaughtered, the Last Ascendant sealed herself within the Abyssal Crucible (that weird bedrock portal in the End), a chamber deep within Nysithea where it lay in waiting, guarding the last gateway between realms. The Voiddwellers now seek to finish what they started (hence the achievement if you slaughter the dragon being "Free The End"), but the Last Ascendant will not fall so easily. Will the Last Islanders slaughter the last of these fabled dragons, or will they too succumb to the abyss? Only time will tell.

DRAGON AGE TIMELINE:
This uses the Chantry calendar, which measures time in "Ages." Each age lasts one hundred years; the current age is the Dragon Age, the ninth since the founding of the Chantry, which marked the beginning of the Chantry calendar. Anything prior to 1:01 Divine is known as the Ancient Era and denoted using negative numbers, counted backwards: the year immediately preceding 1:01 Divine (the first year of the first named Age) is -1 Ancient, the year before that is -2 Ancient, and so on. The Chantry calendar doesn't have a year zero.
Many dates given in the Ancient Era are rough estimates taken from various DA sources, to be taken with a pinch of salt. Will likely be continually edited and updated.
This is a LONG post. You've been warned!
-7600 Ancient: Arlathan, fabled city of the elves, was founded. Elvhen cities existed before this, spread across Thedas and through the fade.
-4600 Ancient: Dwarves & Elves make first contact
-3100 Ancient: Arrival of humans to Thedas, settling in what would become known as Tevinter
-2800 Ancient: The Old Gods begin whispering to the humans, teaching them magic, faith in them becomes widespread
-1595 Ancient: Thalsian declares himself First Priest of Dumat, first blood mage and dreamer- he is given credit for further popularising worship of the Old Gods by establishing temples, and creating the mage ruling class of Tevinter.
-1200 Ancient: Humans and dwarves create first alliance between early Tevinter and Kal-Sharok
-1195 Ancient: Tevinter Imperium founded
-981 Ancient: Tevinter Imperium declares war on the elves, rallying their forces towards Arlathan
-975 Ancient: Tevinter Magisters supposedly used blood magic to sink Arlathan into the ground, ensuring their conquest of the elves. Surviving elves are enslaved.
-715 Ancient: Tevinter begins a campaign to subjugate Alamarri tribes in Ferelden
-620 Ancient: Tevinter establishes Emerius (now known as Kirkwall), across the sea from the Alamarri as a slave trade hub
-395 Ancient: A group of Tevinter magisters enter the Golden City. First Blight begins, led by Archdemon (and Old God) Dumat
-305 Ancient: The Grey Wardens are formed at Weisshaupt
-203 Ancient: Dumat is slain by Grey Wardens, first blight is conquered. Andraste is born.
-180 Ancient: Andraste declares war (the first Exalted March) against the Tevinter Imperium, unifying the barbarian tribes of the South
-171 Ancient: The Imperium's elven slaves, lead by Shartan, join Andraste's fight against Tevinter
-170 Ancient: Andraste dies- Maferath (Andraste's husband) betrays her, allowing her to be captured and put to death by the Tevinter Imperium
-165 Ancient: Maferath grants land (The Dales) to the elves that joined in the war against the Imperium. Those that make it in 'The Long Walk' from Tevinter, found the city of Halamshiral.
-160 Ancient: Hessarian (who had Andraste put to death by fire) converts to the Chant of Light and declares Tevinter an Andrastian nation
1:01 Divine Age: Justinia I made first Divine, Orelesian Chantry is officially established.
1:05 Divine: Second Blight begins, led by Archdemon Zazikel
1:95 Divine: Archdemon slain by Grey Wardens at Starkhaven, second blight ends.
2:10 Glory Age: Orlais declares war (the Exalted March of the Dales) on the elves after years of mounting tensions.
2:20 Glory: Orlais conquers Halamshiral in their Exalted March. Orlais claims the Dales and forbids the worship of elven gods, forcing elves to convert to the Maker and live in alienages within human cities. Those elves that refused and escaped became the nomadic Dalish elves.
3:10 Towers Age: Third Blight begins lead by Toth
3:25 Towers: Archdemon defeated by Grey Wardens at Hunter Fell, third Blight ends
3:87 Towers: Chantry Schism- After years of tension, Orelesian Chantry declares Tevinter as heretics as they refuse to amend the Chant of Light. Valhail I named first Imperial (Black) Divine of Tevinter
5:12 Exalted Age: Fourth Blight begins, lead by Archdemon Andoral
5:24 Exalted: Archdemon slain by Grey Wardens at Ayesleigh, fourth Blight ends
6:30 Steel Age: Qunari first arrive in Thedas in warships, landing in and conquering Par Vollen
6:32 Steel: Qunari ships land en masse in Seheron and northern Rivain, marking the beginning of the Qunari Wars. Seheron and a portions of the Imperium, Rivain and Antiva are conquered in the next 10 years, with efforts to begin attacks on the Free Marches too. Minrathous remains besieged but unconquered.
7:25 Storm Age: The New Exalted Marches are declared by both the Imperium and Orelesian Chantries to retake Seheron and Rivain from the Qunari- three Marches are declared over the next 60 years.
7:84 Storm: The third New Exalted March ends- envoys from all human lands (except Tevinter) and the Qunari meet to sign the Llomerryn Accord, hostilities cease and lands are redistributed. Tevinter refuses to sign, so hostilities between them and the Qunari persist.
8:24 Blessed Age: Orlais orders the Invasion of Ferelden, Denerim is conquered by 8:44 Blessed and Orlais occupies Ferelden until the Dragon Age.
9:00/2 Dragon Age: Ferelden is reclaimed by rebel forces lead by Prince Maric, Loghain Mac Tir and Rowan Guerrin
9:06/7 (?) Dragon: Hawke is born
9:30 Dragon: Fifth Blight begins, lead by Archdemon Urthemiel. The Battle of Ostagar (start of Origins) takes place. The Hawke family flees Lothering for Kirkwall after the battle is unsuccessful.
9:31 Dragon: Archdemon is slain at the Battle of Denerim by Grey Wardens, fifth Blight ends. Events of Awakening take place. Hawke finds the lyrium idol in a deep roads expedition to a pre-first Blight thaig.
9:32 Dragon: Events in Witch Hunt takes place- the Warden confronts Morrigan in front of the eluvian
9:34 Dragon: Hawke is declared Champion of Kirkwall by Knight-Commander Meredith Standard, for repelling a Qunari invasion
9:37 Dragon: Events of Legacy take place- Hawke inadvertently frees Corypheus from his prison. Anders destroys the Kirkwall chantry, sparking the Kirkwall rebellion, and further mage rebellions across Thedas. Hawke flees Kirkwall
9:40 Dragon: Orelesian civil war (AKA War of the Lions) breaks out. College of Enchanters votes to separate from the Chantry. Circles of Magi are dissolved. Solas awakens
9:41 Dragon: Conclave is called at the Temple of Sacred Ashes to bring an end to the Mage-Templar war, disrupted by Corypheus, resulting in the creation of the Breach and the death of the leaders at the conclave, including Divine Justinia (start of Inquisition). The Inquisitor/Herald of Andraste leads the newly reformed Inquisition against Corypheus to seal the Breach. Inquisitor resolves Orelesian civil war.
9:42 Dragon: Events of Jaws of Hakkon and The Descent take place. Inquisitor discovers a living Titan. The Inquisition defeats Corypheus at the Temple of Sacred Ashes and seals the Breach. Divine Victoria is elected.
9:44 Dragon: Events of Trespasser take place- Inquisitor attends the Exalted Council to decide the Inquisition's fate. A Qunari plot to destroy southern Thedas' nobility during the council meeting is foiled by the Inquisition and agents of Fen'harel. The anchor, along with the Inquisitor's left forearm is removed by Solas, who disappears through an eluvian. The Inquisition is disbanded.
9:52 Dragon: The events of Veilguard begin...

Hello, I know you're a really good loremaster, one of the best, so what's the most fitting class if I wanted to roleplay a character as a Chantry Priest? I wanted to import my character from another RPG where they were a healer priest of a monastery but can't make them a Mage in DA because it seems like the nature of metaphysics of the universe conflicts with their character So is a templar-spec nomad in light robed gear or a Rogue like Leliana/Seb more fitting for a Priest? Which is closer? ty!
Hi Nonnie, awsh thanku, thatâs v kind of you to say. :) hereâs some thoughts for your consideration. cut for length.
in terms of the frames of how classes and class-tropes are in some other similar (fantasy, sword n sorcery, etc) settings, spirit healer mages in DA remind me of classical clerics and the white mage archtype. hereâs (spoilers for Tevinter Nights and Blue Wraith at link) a recent post about what we know about how healing magic works in the DA setting, just in case itâs of any interest/use to you.
in terms of mundane healing and non-magical medicine references in the DA settings, the lore has references to âhealersâ, âsurgeonsâ, âmedicsâ, and âphysiciansâ. there are also midwives, apothecaries, herbalists and alchemists, although itâs unclear if one has to be a mage to brew a straight-up potion-potion. hereâs what the DA wiki has to say about medicine/healing arts in Thedas, both magical and mundane. you might be particularly interested in the following:
the only access to any sort of proper care that common people would have is through the Chantry, or one of the Circles of Magi. The visitation of a Circle-approved mage practitioner must be arranged through a Templar. The local chantry provides care for the sick, and members of the clergy may travel to troubled areas in order to provide free relief in the name of charity.
as it pertains to having Chantry clergypeople healing and providing medical care to the sick.
the templars strike me as paladin-esque. what they really do as an Order isnât really the same, but the basal archtype is there. they are essentially thisâs settingâs holy warriors, the crusaders. bear in mind that if you make your character a templar or someone who has the abilities of a templar, they are essentially taking on an addiction to the substance lyrium, which becomes a serious problem for people in the latter stages/grips of the addiction. lyrium withdrawal is unpleasant and comes with significant cravings. over time, users lose their memories and their minds, become paranoid and obsessive, exhibiting dementia-like symptoms, etc. templars in the Order are sworn to protect the world from the dangers of magic, but their primary duties on average usually boil down to acting as jailers to the mages kept in Circles, hunting down escapees, and âbringing inâ mages who came into their power outside of the Circle, although there are ofc other duties like guarding Chantries or being the bodyguards of the Divine. mentioning this stuff because it would naturally have an impact on how you play your character. perhaps not the Templar Order stuff if you make someone with templar abilities who isnât in the Order (see below), but the lyrium stuff definitely. note it is possible to wean off and stop taking lyrium, Cullen can do this according to PC choices in DAI.
there are examples of non-heavy templar armor in the games, like Templar Armor - Light Issue (a medium chestpiece). DAI presents us with red templar enemies who are archers/marksmen. from what I remember they still wear heavy, or at least medium/heavy-looking, armor. theyâre deformed by red lyrium so itâs not really a helpful thing to note, but the red templar enemy faction in DAIâs stealth units, Shadows, still look like theyâre wearing heavy or heavy-looking armor.
Light Armor tends to be for mages, but not exclusively. when we meet Leliana in DAO, sheâs in Chantry robes, which iirc DAO defines as clothing technically (DAO has both LA and clothing as item categories). she wears these when she assists the Warden with the skirmish with soldiers in the Lothering Tavern. (I doubt she didnât switch to other, more protective gear for the duration of the Fifth Blight though, regardless of player choice here). in the Magi Origin, thereâs Lily, a Chanty initiate. sheâs a temporary companion/party member and does some fighting. sheâs also wearing the robes and the game classes her as a rogue. incidentally she can be equipped with a dagger and a mace.
the actual priesthood of the Chantry is made up entirely of women. men are only allowed to become true priests in the Imperial Chantry, which is the Chantry of Tevinter. in the southern Chantry, the only rank men are allowed to have is Brother. the best example of a Chantry Brother weâve had as you say is Sebastian. Brother Burkel also springs to mind as a non-companion example. (he doesnât fight but if you YouTube him you can see how he sounds and what he talks like when heâs speaking to the PC) men are allowed to occupy associated/adjacent roles like chanters and scholars. of particular note here is how the Chantryâs male acolytes, basically an âinvisible armyâ, tend to tend to the less spiritual side of things; they keep the Chantry in good repair, fed and see to the physical well-being of their Andrastian charges (tying to the above excerpt about local Chantries and so on caring for the sick, although do note I can easily see female Chantrypeople doing that role too even if they are âpriestessesâ). the exception to this outside of Tevinter would be in post-DAI worldstates where Leliana was made Divine; she opens the priesthood to all genders and races. sth to bear in mind if your imported character is a male and youâre set on the whole priest aspect as opposed to a lower-ranked Brother.
on balance if you wanted to RP as a Chantry clergyperson (bear in mind âChantry clergypersonâ is my phrasing for the ease of this answer and not necessarily a label from the lore) I think the Rogue class angle would be more fitting. there are examples of Chantry clergypeople who are Rogues and fought as such in the lore (Leliana, Sebastian), and I canât recall examples of templars in light armor or robed gear. A Chantry clergyperson more closely matches the role of a healer priest in a monastery; we can see from the lore there are mundane healing skills/professions and thereâs a definite precedent for Chantry clergypeople to be caring for and tending to the sick. You could play the most skilled mundane healer Chantry clergyperson from a particular Chantry - perhaps even a formally trained physician who gave themselves to a life of service in the Chantry - and/or to capture the travelling angle, your character could be one of those clergypeople who travels to troubled areas in order to provide free healing and relief. if you wanted I think you could have them don a more protective form of equipment or a more protective version of Chantry robes for safety when travelling, or if theyâre particularly combat-inclined, like Leliana in her mission in DA2, or Lelianaâs Sacred Ashes trailer armor, or Lilyâs Heroes of Dragon Age appearance.
I feel like if you went for the templar angle it sounds like youâd be leaning away from the heart of your character, which seems to be a healer monk/travelling priest/traveling healer-type deal. templars are sth different. you would also have to explain how a nomad person gained the powers and abilities of a templar, since thatâs usually the purview of templars only, and usually requires templar training from the Order, and always the imbibing of lyrium. Alistair was a trainee who left before starting lyrium. him teaching the abilities to Warrior PCs or Warrior PCs reading how to be a templar in a book in DAO, Templar Hawke and Cassandraâs spec being the Templar spec in DAI are more like story/gameplay segregation. Cass is a Seeker of Truth, in truth, for instance, not a templar. itâs a bit more realistic and less handwaved in DAI for the PC at least - Way of the Templar is the sidequest through which the DAI PC gains the spec, and specifies that if you construct a lyrium philter (for the imbibing of lyrium) and âstudy the methods of the templarsâ (which = doing a lot of related reading) you can learn the secrets of the spec from someone who knows it or knows about it. on the subject of not being part of the Order, the character Ser is interesting because he knows the physical aspects of being a templar but makes it clear heâs not part of the Order. the abilities of a templar might not necessarily be what youâre looking for either - theyâre about dispelling and nullifying magic, inhibiting spellcasting, not healing. usually these abilities are employed to fell demons, abominations and be turned against mages. also bear in mind the templar spec has so far been the purview of the Warrior class. imo a rogue like Leliana or Seb would be closer to what youâre describing, out of the 2 options in your ask.
hope this helps you decide or at least gives you some food for thought :)
@simonjadis has some great input below in the notes: if youâre open to making your character a Tevinter citizen, note that men (if applicable) have access to all levels of rank in the Imperial Chantry, and mages can be part of the clergy (if you decided that in the end being a mage was acceptable in this setting for your char). following on from the mage angle, although not a priest or part of the clergy, you could make a loyalist, faithful Andrastian spirit healer mage. Wynne in DAO is our best example of someone in this position so far.
