I'm sorry but I can't take this seriously. How does someone who has no success whatsoever in the US (or anywhere else for that matter) gets an US award? It doesn't even make sense that he got a nomination in the first place considering the AMAs themselves said they choose the nominees based on chart performance, mainly in the Billboard charts.

Jimin had one of the best years anyone in k-pop has ever had in the US in 2024. He has a solo Hot 100 number #1. Has the longest charting k-pop song in the Hot 100. He is the longest charting k-pop soloist in the Artist 100 chart and the only one to ever top it. He has the longest charting album by a k-pop soloist in the Billboard 200. He was the best selling k-pop soloist in the US in 2024. He is the only k-pop soloist with 2 songs having sold 2 million units in the US and only one of three k-pop acts to have a song that sold 4 million (BTS and Psy being the other two). In the US Spotify charts he holds the record for most streamed k-pop song and album and is the most streamed soloist (and soon to be most streamed k-pop act overall surpassing BTS). All this and there's still a bunch more I'm not mentioning.

And RM has what exactly? His highest placement in the Hot100 is #36 and that's with Megan's song he's only a feature in because none of the songs from the album he released the same year even entered the chart (mind you Megan has 3 number #1s and 40 entries so you know who's carrying who). Same thing with Spotify US, he only got an entry with Megan's song but none for his own songs including the one he recently released that only lasted one day on Global Spotify. But he deserves this US award because...?

Because armys were sorry they don't give a shit about his music and that he has no accomplishments while Jimin has countless. So they decided to give RM a pity award and guilt-tripped everyone into voting for him like it's an obligation while harassing anyone that wanted to vote for Jimin because apparently that's anti behavior.

Are they really proud of this? Is RM? Will he look at a shelf of US achievements that is completely empty aside from this one award and tell himself he deserved it? Deserved it more than his bandmate he knows should've and would've gotten it instead if their fandom wasn't so infested with people who are so bitter about his success and people who hate him simply because they blame him for a couple they made up in their minds not being together they way they wanted?

Is this RM's real achievement? Not being a threat like Jimin? Being so irrelevant and unsuccessful that people can't even be bothered to work against him? Winning only because bitter fans wanted Jimin to lose?

What a thing to celebrate...

i get you, anon. it hurts especially because it's still so fresh. i tried to keep my expectation low, but when you invested a lot, it's going to sting no matter what. what hurts even more is how armys are celebrating the 'win' as if we didn't witness what had happened or as if we didn't know how jimin deserves that win the most; as if jimin was an enemy that deserves to be eliminated and disposed. it sucks. this is the lowest of the low that you can expect from them.

from the start of the nomination, RM's nom has always been mysterious (i think i got an ask abt it but idk where it went) because afaik his album (except that collab with megan) didn't do much in US aside from those reviews and awards (w/c are more on the filmography rather than the music). we can't exactly pinpoint where his nomination came from. i'm not opposed to the idea that it was bought, bc again, it seems like it sprouted out of thin air, but we don't have the enough data for now; so i guess only time can tell.

RM and armys can convince themselves that he deserves it and that he earned it all they want. but they cannot convince us and other people who really saw jimin's impact and doubts AMAs credibility; especially since compared to jimin, he's had far less support, numbers, and popularity. it's a pity award; no sugar-coating could change that. the meaning and worth of that award is RM's burden to carry and prove, and judging by how he is celebrating his 'win', he's loving every moment of it. let's see how far he can go.

it's valid to be angry, upset, frustrated, and sad. a lot of things had been said and many more will be said. it's going to be an endless back and forth, but it's up to us how we're going to get through this. needless to say, armys will gloat all they want. we can't fully stop them, but let's clock them from time to time; they deserve it 😉. however, trying to fight them all the time will be emotionally exhausting and a waste of energy in the long run (but you do you), so let's pick our battles.

the best way to treat this experience is to see it as a pivotal moment in jimin's career and to us as his supporters. it's another obstacle that we need to conquer and surpass in order to be tougher and wiser. (god knows we still have so many to face.) we can fight fire with fire while also being level-headed and patient. go on and do whatever you feel will help release those negative emotions as long as it'll give you a little comfort. but please, let's not forget to give ourselves more time to regroup. definitely no time for regrets though because we worked for jimin 101%.

for me (and i'm sure to other pjms), this isn't exactly a defeat. jimin may not have gotten that physical trophy and title, but we gained and are gaining so much more from this experience. our fandom is growing stronger and united, armys (and the members) are showing their true colors clearer and louder than ever, we're gaining better insights on how to advocate for jimin effectively, and so much more. no amount of awards should stop jimin from conquering the world. no amount of awards and mediaplay should steal jimin's spark when he has us supporting him. he deserves the love and support. don't give his antis, hybe, and armys the satisfaction.

let's reflect, give ourselves time to breathe, and try to channel our emotions to something more productive. we have songs to streams, polls to win, and jimin to welcome back (!!!)

i'm proud of jimin and i'm proud of us (he's going to be proud of us too). let's keep moving forward, onwards. steadily.

Noir in P5X

(last updated 11/9/24!)

Haru Okumura is primarily present as a Phantom Idol, or cognitive teammate. She has not yet made any appearance in the main story, outside of her lines during the Sae Palace escape intro cutscene.

Noir is first seen at the very end of the P5 Collab's Pyramid Chapter, after the group is abducted and finds themselves in the space station, as she and Mona are right there in the station to greet them. However, she features much more prominently in the Spaceship Chapter, as this is when she, Mona, and Joker actually join with the rest of the group in order to steal the Core there.

While she's initially a bit nervous to be a newbie in front of this other group of thieves, Wind reassures her, and they later connect over having reduced themselves to their roles for their families and others, before their respective friend groups helped them break out of this mindset. Joker also puts on an entire Beauty Thief routine which she cites as lightening the mood and helping her relax. Still, her father is consistently on her mind as they traverse this place that looks like his Palace.

Noir later unintentionally is the catalyst that makes the group realize they're actually from parallel worlds, as Big Bang Burger (and, it's implied, Okumura Foods as a whole) does not exist in the P5X universe.

Haru can also be found in Leblanc in the real world, which Wonder is for some reason capable of crossing worlds to visit. She won’t appear until Wonder has begun the Spaceship Chapter, but has evidently already heard about him from the others. She talks about her day-to-day activities and hobbies, including asking Wonder for suggestions for what she should grow in her rooftop garden at Shujin.

Noir's Persona Milady is categorized as a Psychokinesis type, and resists Psychokinesis while being weak to Nuclear.

Milady is a Control Persona, meaning she’s good at dealing with groups of enemies, and her trait makes it so that Noir's grenade launcher ammo can gain "Modifications" from her Persona skills, strengthening it (up to three Modifications can be active at once, and they're consumed when she fires her grenade launcher).

Her first psychokinesis attack skill hits all enemies twice, with a chance to inflict a "Crosshair" for three rounds (also grants the "Thermal Energy" Modification: enemies with a Crosshair take extra damage from Noir's grenade launcher, consuming the Crosshair); her gun attack skill hits one enemy, dealing extra damage if they have a Crosshair (also grants the "Armor Removal" Modification: the next ranged weapon attack deals extra damage, and the Thermal Energy Modification can now apply to psychokinesis attack skills as well); and her second psychokinesis attack skill hits all enemies, having an increased critical chance on any enemies with a Crosshair (also grants the "Diffusion" Modification: the next ranged weapon attack deals extra damage, and the Thermal Energy Modification can now apply to psychokinesis attack skills as well).

Her passive skills buff Noir's attack and critical damage based on Noir's effect hit stat, and grant Noir a layer of "Barrel Heat" every time a Modification is consumed (the first layer of Barrel Heat buffs Noir's effect hit and resistance stats, the second layer buffs her defense, and the third layer buffs her critical damage).

As in P5, her melee weapon is axes, while her ranged weapon is a grenade launcher. Her Highlight is shown from 0:47-0:57 in this video, and it deals psy damage to all enemies. If Noir's Modification slots aren't full, it grants the "Overload" Modification: buffs Noir's critical rate when using her ranged weapon. If her Modification slots are full, the Highlight's damage is buffed instead.

Her recommended card sets are 1) 6 of Cups (Pleasure) + Page of Swords (Wisdom), 2) 4 of Coins (Power) + Page of Coins (Growth).

The game recommends teaming her up with 1) Summer Tomoko, 2) Rin.

Todays rip: 11/03/2024

ULTRA S+G

Season 2 Featured on: The SiIvaGunner YTPMV Collab (Eek!).veg

God, man. Season 2 of SiIvaGunner was so cool.

And like, I know that that's what I *always* say when I'm writing about a Season 2 rip, in everything from Patched Plains Fusion Collab to Rippin'! Mashin'! High Quality Grand Prix and the SilvaGunner: Rebooted 1st Anniversary event...but I can't help it! There was just such an energy of excitement, of pure joy permeating throughout the entire season - excitement not just for the Christmas Comeback Crisis, but for how SiIvaGunner was *actually* back, firing on all cylinders. The rips were referencing events we were already nostalgic over, althewhile introducing new jokes in clever, memorable ways - the Inspector Gadget takeover and Become as Gadget will forever stick with me as one of the most engrossing events the channel has ever done.

To put it one way...in my (nostalgia-blinded) eyes, Season 2 was the most "unified" the channel ever felt. We were all invested in every little corner of the channel's ongoings, we were all aware of the origins of and meaning of all the active jokes...that kind of investment and attachment to all the featured jokes felt sort of like if Season 4 Episode 2's Summer Fes had lasted for an entire Season! And while we've certainly got a far wider, far more ambitious output of rips in Season 5 onward in particular, it was that feeling of unification that made rips like ULTRA S+G hit like fucking crazy.

The thing you'll immediately notice when clicking on ULTRA S+G is, of course, the visuals, a full-length parody of the visuals featured in the original ULTRA B+K music video, completely reimagined to feature several of SiIva's own memes from Season 2. The visuals are, of course, in sync with the main joke of the rip, in being a huge meme medley of various sources, most replacing the original song's "bass" and "kick" vocal samples. The resulting sound hits you like several trains throughout the rip, be it the opening of "DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE ; KAY-KAY-KAY-KAY-KAY!!", the beat-dropping "Miney Crafta"s and "GRAND DAD"s, the midsection covered by the good ol' PSY samples a la One Winged PSYcho - V​.​S. Sepsyrop...and while all that is happening, you're met with visuals that go absolutely above and beyond just parodying the original. It has little references to the events of Season 1, such as the infamous Bean or the Mr. Rental storyline of Mr. Rental [B Side] ~ Out of Options...and, hey - an animation of The Voice Inside Your Head!! What ULTRA S+G conveys above all else is the extent of the journey we had all been on over the course of almost two years, a hype-beyond-belief shot directly into the arm of everything SiIvaGunner embodies.

Kirbio's output on the channel is impressive in its sheer scope, and recently of note arranged one of Season 1's greatest in the form of Return to Collision Clouds. Its likely coincidental, but I enjoy how both that arrangement as late in as Season 7, as well as ULTRA S+G, manage to convey that feeling of the long journey the channel's been on in entirely different ways: Return to Collision Clouds has a sentimental feel to it, wheras ULTRA S+G may as well be hype incarnate. An explosive beginning to the end of Season 2, its the kind of rip that I cannot stop returning to for the memories alone - helped, of course, by the rip itself being an incredible watch and listen.

hier soir je suis allée voir une pièce de théâtre lesbienne et pendant le q&a la metteuse en scène et la compositrice ont parlé de leur processus de collaboration et je me suis dit c'est bon j'ai même plus envie de faire cette collab musicale avec r. je veux travailler uniquement avec des lesbiennes, ou au moins des filles cool comme la compositrice je sais pas si elle était lesbienne ou pas. je savais que cette pièce allait me guérir. elle m'a aussi rendue très triste alors qu'elle est pas triste du tout, au contraire, elle se veut remplie de tendresse et de joie. la joie de se découvrir lesbienne et de trouver sa communauté, la joie du coming out, etc. mais moi c'est ça qui m'a rendue triste justement parce que j'ai tout ramené à moi et que j'ai jamais réussi à trouver de communauté. je me suis identifiée à plein de trucs qu'elle racontait par contre, comme l'appart de 9m2 à paris, le sentiment de satisfaction quand elle a rasé ses cheveux, d'être prise pour un mec dans la rue, la fascination pour les filles masculines et son cerveau qui lui dit mais non j'aime les garçons voyons. et puis la joie d'en être. à la fin de la pièce j'avais juste envie d'aller boire un verre avec elles et de leur raconter ma vie. à la fin du q&a elles ont dit qu'elles étaient là pour discuter mais une fois de plus j'étais seule au monde au milieu de gens qui n'étaient pas seuls alors je suis partie le coeur lourd, il pesait une tonne je le trainais derrière moi au bout d'une chaine en fer ça me faisait marcher au ralenti il me disait ne t'en vas pas lara reste avec les lesbiennes c'est pour ça que t'es venue à berlin bordel, mais j'en avais tellement marre de pas savoir quoi faire de moi-même et de regarder mon téléphone pour me donner l'air occupée que je me suis dit fuck it je me casse, j'en ai marre de souffrir.

n. vient de m'envoyer les photos de moi et j. à la mensa jeudi dernier et j'ai envie de pleurer. ce matin dans la cuisine, après de multiples listes de pros & cons et de systèmes à points élaborés pour choisir leur nouveau coloc, ils se sont décidés à prendre philip pour me remplacer. quand j. l'a appelé pour le lui annoncer j'avais envie de vomir. jusqu'à la dernière seconde j'avais envie de crier WAIT i'm STAYING mais j'arrivais pas à décider si c'était vraiment ce que je voulais ou pas, je sais juste que je veux pas rentrer à la maison, mais vivre dans cet appart tout l'hiver me semble inconcevable. non mais c'est même pas l'appart le pire, le pire c'est le sentiment de vide, d'avoir rien à faire, à part écrire, mais j'arrive pas à faire en sorte que ça suffise. quand j'ai dit à j. que j'avais besoin d'avoir a sense of purpose il a dit but you have so many plans, you told me about them! mais je savais pas comment lui expliquer que j'arrive pas à prendre mes projets assez au sérieux pour qu'ils arrivent à combler le vide.

quand j'ai parlé du vide à n. elle a dit mais c'est pas la même chose au luxembourg? et j'ai dit non au luxembourg je suis dans la non-vie et donc je le vois pas. berlin rend visible le vide. tout est archi confus dans ma tête. le vide, comment combler le vide, comment gagner de l'argent, comment vivre, est-ce que je suis pas en train de faire la plus grosse erreur de ma vie en quittant berlin? comment je vais faire sans j. et n.? pourquoi j'ai fait ça? est-ce que la psy va pouvoir m'aider? et si la psy me dit que j'aurais du rester à berlin? et si la psy me laisse tomber? j'entends le plafond craquer, j'ai envie de l'entendre craquer toute la nuit, j'ai envie d'avoir envie de rentrer à la maison de nouveau. la vie était trop douce ici ces derniers jours. je pourrais essayer de trouver une autre coloc. j. m'a dit if you look hard enough you will find a job. mon problème c'est que je veux pas les choses hard enough. je veux pas rester à berlin hard enough pour me donner les moyens de rester. mais c'est QUOI que je veux alors? pourquoi c'est si dur de prendre des décisions? ça peut pas juste être une histoire de paresse? c'est forcément plus profond que ça? si c'était juste de la paresse ça ferait de moi la personne la plus pitoyable, la plus répugnante de l'univers et je voudrais m'en délivrer le plus vite possible.

je viens de voir des vidéos de la fête de clôture du festival de théâtre où ils sont tous en train de danser et ça m'a fait un mélange de soulagement et de regret de pas y être. samedi matin j'ai aidé une metteuse en scène à monter le décor de sa pièce, j'avais réussi à me motiver à me lever à 8h30 parce que je savais qu'y aurait r. et que mercredi soir on s'était souri plusieurs fois par dessus le stand de merch, mais là je l'ai vu de jour pour la première fois et je l'ai trouvé un peu moche. en plus il me souriait plus donc il avait perdu de son intérêt. je me suis promenée dans les coulisses, je me suis glissée dans le local technique avec les câbles et les moniteurs et les tables de mixage et les synthés, j'adore les coulisses d'un théâtre, tout me fascine. le soir pour la pièce des lesbiennes je me suis assise au premier rang en plein milieu et la metteuse en scène allemande est venue s'assoir à côté de moi, elle me faisait un peu d'effet, et puis j'ai eu un gros crush sur la fille qui animait le q&a, elle faisait partie d'un collectif lesbien berlinois et elle avait une façon de parler tout à fait fascinante et adorable. elle avait les cheveux longs comme moi mais lisses et soyeux avec la raie sur le côté. elle portait un jean des dr. martens et un tshirt noir. j'aime bien quand une fille a les cheveux longs mais qu'elle a quelque chose de très masculin dans son style et dans sa façon de bouger. elle dégageait un peu ce que j'aimerais dégager.

hier matin dans la cuisine pendant qu'ils étaient encore en train de débattre de mon successeur n. a dit so we need a queer woman who does art hmm en me lançant des regards appuyés et j. comprenait pas et puis tout d'un coup il est tombé des nues et il a dit omg you're queer?? but you were telling me about this guy et j'ai dit that doesn't mean i'm not into girls too. j'adore comment ma sexualité continue à plonger les gens dans la confusion alors qu'en réalité j'ai pas de sexualité du tout. je me demande s'il me voit différemment maintenant. c'est un excellent sujet de livre très peu abordé ça, une fille bisexuelle sans vie sexuelle, non? et je SAIS que je dois pas être la seule.

juice and i talk about the futures of the characters sometimes and for melody, we see her being a professional streamer and making lots of money from that. i imagine after college she'll invest more time and money and effort into her streaming career and do big fun events and stuff! i think she would be very fulfilled by just like getting to plan lots of fun stuff for her and her audience, she'd include her friends, do collabs, all sorts of stuff! i think she could have a lot of fun with streaming for a very long time! maybe she'd even dip into makin some music too i dunno ! her goal is to fill her life with love and happiness and get paid for being pretty! and she gets to do it ^.^ yay!!! (love me saying "i think" when its our fucking character sdlfkds)

Ranking the most insane collabs I've ever seen

1. Old Town Road Grammy's edition, how tf y'all got Lil Nas X, BTS, the fucking Walmart kid, and Billy Ray Cyrus in one room???? And then after that Nas pulls up. It felt like a fever dream. Random ass assembly, iconic performance though. Tbh I don't think people talk about it enough

2. Erykah Badu and RM. People hear me bring this up and they think I'm fucking with them and I don't blame them because WHAT? HOW? WHY? Yun was a banger though

3. Bruno Mars, Rosé, Lady Gaga, and Sexxy Red in Fat Juicy and Wet. It was a pretty brief thing but still wild. Now I kinda wanna see what happens if they actually all made a song together, idk if it'd be the worst thing to grace the planet or the best

4. Megan Thee Stallion and Twice. TWO TIMES??? We love to see it. By this point it wasn't all that shocking or confusing but I think it's still noteworthy. They work surprisingly well together and I now need Megan photocards in my life

5. Cardi B & Blackpink on Bet You Wanna. There's not too much to say about it, I mean it wasn't that absurd but at the time it was like "whoa really? They did that?" Because kpop was still so separate from the mainstream. It was nice. Not my favorite Blackpink song or Cardi verse but it was a bop

6. Selena Gomez and Blackpink on Ice Cream. I'mma keep it a bean, it wasn't that good. And I remember when it came out there was a lot of controversy (mainly because people could not be normal about Blackpink doing anything, that era was ROUGH), but one thing that I do still think is weird is how weird the line distribution was, like how did Selena get more time than all the members and it's not even her song? Other than that, I'd say it was generally inoffensive if not a little bit cringe. I could see her maybe working with Rosé or Jennie again but idk about the whole group.

Psy and Megan working on a TV show together. It's called Kpopped and it's basically about all the collaborations I just talked about. I think. Idk for sure.

TL;DR: This album is just lacking the magic that his previous hits had, and he’s left hanging on to the magic of his guests. 

(I have to say though, this is a pretty gnarly album cover, 9/10)

Overall Thoughts

Speaking of old kpop stars, have you ever wondered what happened to Psy? Man comes out with one of the greatest songs of the century, makes kpop a household name, releases a followup that does not do as well, then he isn’t heard from again. That isn’t from a lack of effort, since 2012 he has released three albums, and done songs with will.i.am (?),Snoop Dogg (??), and Ed Sheeran (??!!?) and tons with super big name kpop stars. In this album though he collabed with a member of BTS which means we’re now reminded he exists. 

This album was a clear attempt to come back into the public consciousness and this time it worked. The big song (“That That”) with Suga from BTS shows the fun Psy that we know with great horns and a super infectious melody. The only thing its lacking for me is a super good chorus, this one is just too stagnant and simple, lacking something that would push it into being a song I would actually seek out. 

He spends the rest of the album collabing with different big artists, many of which have recently joined the label he started as a kind of safe haven from the harshness of the big 3. The songs with Crush and Sung Si Kyung are pretty boring examples of what I call “Chinese Supermarket Music,” a crawling ballad that seems to never end and is sung by someone that is giving a little too much. “Sleepless” with Heize left a lot to be desired for me as I absolutely love her as an artist and was annoyed he used her (like almost every other guest artist in this album) as just someone to sing the chorus while he raps the verses. “GANJI” featuring Jessi thankfully breaks this pattern, with a “screw the haters” song that’s kind of funny to imagine Psy singing. Especially when you add the fact that Jessi is the most stereotypically New Yorker you can imagine, with all of her English words in the song toting a New York accent. The song is a little abrasive but if that’s your thing then it’s pretty good. 

My favorite off of the album is “Now” with Hwasa (one of my favorite kpop artists of all time) which I applauded for being so authentically 80s, with period perfect synths and a sense of drama that can only be possible in the early 80s. While it turns out it was TOO authentically 80s, as its a cover of “When the Rain Begins to Fall” by Jermaine Jackson, and the only thing they changed was the language of the lyrics. I mean I’m glad they introduced me to the better original version, but that’s the thing, the original is better! C’mon Psy!

Now there are Psy solo works on this album obviously, but honestly none of them are that good. All of them seem to call back to a 2010s era of pop that we’ve all moved on from, with “Hello Monday” just sounding like a 2015 hit that everyone moved on from a week later, and “Everday” being a song that would be playing over a lasertag game from my 12th birthday. The only song that is memorable is “Celeb” but its too simple and is just lacking the substance to be a single.

Listen, I write this all as a Psy lover. Someone who measures their time as BGS and AGS (Before and After Gangnam Style) and listened to this album the day it dropped. This album is just lacking the magic that his previous hits had, and he’s left hanging on to the magic of his guests.

my #10 Track of the Year for 2023 is...

"Higher" by Mandidextrous & Tanukichi!

oh hey, what do you know. there it is again.

mandidextrous is a party vet as it turns out. she was a major force in the speedbass scene in the 2000s, she was into freetekno at the turn of the millenium, and now she's one of the artists innovating and driving this new 4x4 sound. (oh, and she's trans too!) getting her on this list knowing all this is a no-brainer -- but i didn't know any of this until i heard "Higher". a collab with tanukichi, it's more psy-driven than other 4x4 tracks we've heard in this blog. think of this one as more of a hybrid of hi-tech and DnB rather than dropcore. that gives it a HUGE bassy drive, which you absolutely hear more in the DnB sections as the bassline moves in waves right to the last notes.

If there was to be another collab on his album who would you want it to be?

I bet there is another one... In fact, almost half the album could be collabs for all we know. 3/11 tracks already are.

I'd love a collab with another member, particularly Jimin, but anyone would be cool. If there are to be more collabs, then I prefer them to be with idols, but if the songs are in English that could be difficult. I don't love IU, but she has nice songs and I think their voices would go together well. It would also be strategic for him, and he likes her a lot. Since IU doesn't really sing in English, their song would either be a Korean ballad or chill yet upbeat track, which I'd find refreshing at this point. Sorry, but I'm not really familiar with a lot of soloists in Korea, and I think Jungkook wouldn't work with anyone I'd be more interested in seeing him collab with (like groups). I mentioned before that a song with PSY would be cool, and I maintain that. I'll die if he chooses Jay Park though. God, I can just imagine him choosing that cocky, misogynist C-list rapper. He's like the Korean Jack Harlow, only worse because Harlow seems sweeter.

Among international (American) artists, I'm convinced that his voice would sound interesting with Miley Cyrus's. I don't listen to American pop so I don't really know. I just want him to collab with big names if he must have unnecessary features. Billie Eilish? Does he still like her? I don't know...
