PlayStation
Gonna say PS1 cause it wasn't specified otherwise and say - SPYRO 2: GATEWAY TO GLIMMER
I try to play this one every year in the summer sometime because I love it so much and playing for the first time in the summer was just plain amazing.
I LOVE the low poly and almost liminal/minimalist looking spaces, I LOVE the characters and especially the campy voice acting, I LOVE the soundtrack it's one of my all time favorites period, I JUST LOVE PLAYING THIS GAME!
There's a lot of aspects that haven't aged brilliantly, mainly in the gameplay (some missions are kinda ass to play through when you're trying to 100%) but it's all worth it to play the reward area at the end >:)
I remember playing it for a bit at a family friends house while my mum had dinner/dessert with the host and I played with the hosts much younger kids and we had a lot of fun, so much fun in fact that the hosts adult son gifted us his PS1 with Spyro 1&2. He wanted to remove distractions like that and focus on his upcoming baby, and although we were hesitant on such a generous gift, we loved it! I have a lot of a memories with that PS1, sadly it didn't make it through all the frequent moves I had to go through but I do remember one of the last times I played it, I was playing Spyro 2 in my room on my grandparents old crt that I fixed up
Send me a game console and I'll tell you about a game I like from it (as long as I've played that console!)
#rads asks#anon#thank youuuuu#i really loved that ps1 and miss it a lot#i wish i still had it but it either got sold against my will or lost/broken in a move#i know that dad sold the games without realising that everything other than the spyro games were bought by me lol#but i saved up and got a copy of og Spyro 2 to play that I'm hoping to give s spin later this summer. maybe over Christmas#The only thing i have left of that ps1 is the memory card which stays loved and safe in my ps2 >:)#btw i wasn't a child prodigy fixing the crt.. it was just really dirty and so much dust got inside the casing and some stuff was loose#i just wanted to look inside it and parents said if i was careful i could do what i like and i just cleaned it and it was fine

One thing I really appreciate about Dirge Of Cerberus is that there are some cutscenes that are only there to show how cool the devs think Vincent is. Like:
This plays right after you already beat the boss. This is the entire cutscene. The single reason for why this is here is that one guy went "yo wouldn't it be cool if the dog tried to ambush Vincent anyway but he kicked him and then shot him multiple times in midair" and then another guy went "hell yeah dude that's so rad. we're making a 16+ Vincent Valentine game for the PS2 in the year 2006 and nobody can fuck with us"
#kept in 360p for an authentic Dirge Of Cerberus experience#btw this isnt me shitting on the game I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit#ff7 vincent#vincent valentine#ff7#ffvii#dirge of cerberus#final fantasy 7#final fantasy vii

Sorry if this comes up a little random but
Opinion about clickbait (Radford x Frank)? I know its the crackship of the crackships but its also somehow one of my otps
gotta be honest with you. for a very brief time i thought i came up with the ship ever since i doodled them referencing pleakley and jumba before i found out there was a shipname for them
but they Are pleakley and jumba. frank is a big man who constantly gets into trouble and plays by his own rules, and radford is a little worrywart who just wants to go home and live his boring life
they come off as a couple who proooobably dont love each other, but everytime they interact its like fate decided that they were meant to be an old married couple bickering until their last breath. just constant playful banter and rolling their eyes when their partner does something dumb, but stifling a laugh at the same time
frank takes advantage of radfords idiocy for sure. he tells him to hop in his van cause hes got puppies in the back, and rad of Course believes him and gets in. theres some kid in a bag, and rads asks who it is cause thats,,, not puppies. frank isnt answering, and the next thing you know hes got rad in his arms to keep him from squirming away cause he Needs him to go up to the cashier at the gas station to get something and hes on bad terms with just about everyone in town, and radford gets along with everyone. so he has to do it
radford is a little difficult to control, he cannot stop going "dude no we're gonna get in trouble!!!! we're gonna get in Soooo much trouble oh my god dude my uncles a cop. do you know what hes gonna do to me!!!! DUDEEEEE" to everything frank does. frank tells him he can disguise as a woman to sneak into a bar theyre driving to, and radford is suddenly immediately on board with the plan
i think theyd still totally get along though. they could hold a conversation for Days at a time and love listening to whatevers on the radio. rad introduces frank to mafia and car chase movies cause thats what frank likes the most apparently. franks got movies too!!!! he stole them. but for radfords sake hes not gonna tell him that
frank has had to keep rad from eating drugged candy Multiple times, like "uhh no you cant have that. its uhh. dirty." nd rads like "... but its wrapped???" nd frank just keeps stammering till rad eats it anyways then wakes up in the hospital
yeah theyd be the funniest couple ever. franks ultimate challenge for how long he can keep his idiot boyfriend from finding out he kidnaps children for money. fortunately for him, radford doesnt ever connect the dots. everytime he gets suspicious frank just distracts him with something he likes
frank vc now listen to me radford, i am talking directly into your ear now. i need you to do me a favor. you will do this for me. i need you to go to gamestop, and i need you to ask the bastard working the counter if they have bambi on the ps2. if you come back empty handed youll be in big trouble mister. you will never see the light of day

TOS Replay Stray Thoughts #1:
Ahh, playing Tales of Symphonia is like coming home. โค๏ธ
It's been some time since I wrapped up my years-long 100% completion run, so just for fun, I'll provide some wisened/wisecracking commentary along the way. Starting...NOW!!!
-As I'm playing the GC version, it's funny how I went from "the NA opening instrumental is totally rad and Starry Heavens is generic anime schlock" to, uh, kinda the opposite.
To this TOS veteran, said instrumental still "represents" the game for me, but in retrospect removing the Japanese songs is a really cynical practice. (And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't care for Modern Tales at all.)
-HNNNNGGHHH THAT ISELIA THEME JUST INSTANTLY DROWNS YOU WITH NOSTALGIA JUST LISTEN TO THAT RUSTIC AIR
(Seriously, what's up with the different instrument in the PS2/OST versions??? Dunno what that sound is, but it's no good.)
-Who is Vidarr? What's his deal? No one knows, but I'm thinking he's in desperate need of a character study -- one diving into the complex themes of Do Not Get In Our Way and Ugh I Lost To A Bunch Of Kids.
-"I gave the Chosen a lifetime's supply of gels for her journey!"
Then where are they, guy? 'Cause I didn't get a single one when they joined my party.
(There's a story here...were they lost in a tragic accident? Or is Kratos a gel addict?)
-"What are you saying? Do you realize how many died here because of him?"
Scott Menville condemning Scott Menville.
-Kratos in Triet: Lloyd, you are growing stronger -- you've realized you can't just swing your swords mindlessly.
Also Kratos in Triet: Your swordsmanship is bad and you should feel bad.
(Both in-character! But they're bundled too closely.)
-Colette: ohnoitsbroken
That needed another take.
-Lloyd shoots a Renegade with the Sorcerer's Ring and that frees him because??? (As you can tell, nitpicking's a habit of mine.)
-One storytelling flaw of TOS -- particularly in the first act -- is that it's a little *too* frontloaded with foreshadowing. It practically spells out Colette's fate no less than three times before you leave Iselia! That resigned "yeah" of hers on Lloyd's balcony was enough.
-I love Clumsy Colette, but I've always felt Ditzy Colette comes off as a little too dumb/mean-spirited. (Never liked the "you need to act more Chosen-like!" scene early on) I guess you could say it's a coping mechanism of sorts to distract herself from her inevitable death, but I don't know if that works.
-"You got re-ject-ed!"
See, even Genis knows Lloyd and Colette are meant to be. Oh, sure, he's laughing at Lloyd's expense now, but he's crying on the inside. I promise.
Annnnd that's it for now! I'll be posting more thoughts on the regular, so stay tuned for further Tales of Symphonia geekiness!

Hi Rosie! Tell us about a videogame you wish was more well-known
Hi WinWin ^^ I've talked about it here before but I think a lot about Robot Alchemic Drive (RAD) for the PlayStation 2... I didn't play a lot of it because it was pretty difficult but basically it's this game where you play as a teenager heir of a giant robot defense company and you need to control the robot from outside to defeat aliens
so instead of a regular mecha game, you have to position yourself somewhere both safe for you and somewhere where you can see your robot well enough to command it, and then you have to use the robot by moving the arms and legs and weapons independently, much like you would with an actual remote controller instead of being inside a cockpit.
it's really fun in concept and I adore its idea so much that I really hope I'll play it more. but I never see anyone talk about it! even in the realm of mecha games, the PS2 already has plenty of stuff like the Armored Core 3 trilogy, Front Mission 4 and 5, and even Steambot Chronicles that gets more attention (though this is probably deserved)
Robot Alchemic Drive is just one of those games that I recommend for everyone that is able to play it, just on the basis of "even if you wouldn't like this, you deserve to find out how it feels in your hands at least once" which is a sentiment I don't see expressed a lot in video game discussion (I also say this a lot about Ridge Racer Type 4 to be fair)

Midnight Gaming: Headless with a regard, down in Australian Undertale
So last night I played Lunacid past midnight, checked socials later to find.... RGG Like a Dragon direct confirmed for Janurary 9th, taking a deeper look into the Pirate Yakuza spin off.
If you were the type of person who played and enjoyed the yakuza series before zero was released, you must feel very, very validated these days huh?
The Yakuza series was sort of an underappreciated series for a while before, with the games mainly being on the playstation consoles and were barely allowed to be localised across seas as SEGA wasnt so sure if people really cared about it. The few times SEGA tried to break the series into the western markets ended up failing to capture major attention in those markets. On ps2 the first game was lauded for its dub being hilariously bad and while it and 2 received favorable reviews, they were assumed to be GTA clones trying to cash in on that series popularity since this was after san andreas and the stories spin offs were released.
There was also Dead Souls which was the next attempt to get the western markets to be into the Yakuza series via way of adding zombies along with a questionable method of aiming and your mileage may vary on how you feel about that game but the general consensus at the time was it was just mediocre and chasing the zombies trend at the time. I recall that the fifth entry of the series Yakuza 5 almost didnt even got a localisation until fans petitioned them to reconsider, so you finally got it as a digital only download.
And then Yakuza 0 releases and the general gaming public noticied it and said "Holy shit, thats rad". You see more people talking about the series nowadays than you have before. What was a series that used to be restricted to the playstation as a sort of "niche" SEGA title, grew into becoming a mainstream series with a lot of the main games being ported to Xbox and PC, hell the switch has a port of Yakuza 1's remake Kiwami. A remake of one the japan only spinoffs was localised. The new games that took a turn into a turn-based rpg thats headlined by a new protagionist were well recieved, with fans of the old style still having the judgement series and Gaiden: the man who erased his name, still having the beat-em-up style of gameplay they are used to. Fans of Yakuza/RGG are eating good nowadays and I cant be more proud of them.
So yeah, its been confirmed that Janurary 9th will have a direct focused on the latest spinoff, featuring the character Majima in a hawaii pirate adventure, revealing more information on it for those interested. Leaving a gematsu link here:

So anyways, you know about Fromsoft, the developer whos responsible for games such as Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Armored Core. Games that are well known for being challenging and making online streamers rage to the delight of their viewers and to the success of their bank accounts. Before that though however there was one series they did that was an rpg with challenging elements in it. One that demanded patience and caution when playing it with aggressive, careless playstyles often experiencing death as a result.
Yes, this series was known as.... Shadow Tower... oh yeah they also did a series called Kings Field, they did that too :).
So anyways the guy who made the Not-Silent-Hill game Lost In Vivo, Akuma Kira, also made a Not-Kings-Field called Lunacid and its pretty awesome.

The story here is the worlds been brought back into a medievil age with magic in it due to the moon having a crying fit and a massive whale spewed poison all over the surface. Theres now a massive hole under the moon where anything and anyone gets dumped down. You're a convicted criminal who gets sentenced to be thrown into the well and you end up losing a hand in the process, having survived the fall, you now have to explore the areas that reside within the great well and grab any weapons and items ypu find that'll help you face off against any threats you find within the deep caverns and dark labyrinths of australian undertale.
By the way, losing your hand isnt just a story thing, you spend the whole game with only one hand, so you can only equip and use one weapon at a time, you can equip a second to swap to when needed but theres no equipping anything in your offhand because your hand is simply off.
Combat in Lunacid is mainly holding to charge a strike with your weapon to do full damage, making sure to aim your weapon so you strike an enemies weakspot and potentially outright remove that part of the enemy. You headshot a skeleton with your club, its head will be taken off and it'll come after you headless in spite of a regard..... thats.... yeah no thats correct.
If you want some ranged options you can find a bow or a crossbow but you'll mostly come across spell rings that will be your magic in this game. You can equip two, one for each button and they can have either some offensive or supporting effects. You'll find these rings in either chests, dropped from enemies or even hidden behind secret walls. One fun spell you'll find early on is a spell called Lithomancy which will grant inanimate objects the gift of life, so you too can recreate that scene of sorcerer micky from Fantasia, only instead of dancing with living objects in a whimsical way, they just constantly scream at you as they fidget around like a prop in a source engine game when its gets stuck and the physics panic..
Honestly kind of a mood.

I dont want to speak too much about this game incase of revealing a spoiler but I will say this, its a cool game for cool people who want a dungeon crawler that doesnt feel like a loot-based power fantasy or a min-max stat heavy grind. You just explore various areas and look for any items that can help you stay alive or any bits of lore that can fill you on whats been going on in the great well. Should also mention Lunacy being a game mechanic that is tied to the phases of the real life moon and can affect how damaging your spells are along with how dangerous enemies can be.
Anyways, consider giving this game a look, its cool and I like it.
Thank you all for reading this edition of Midnight Gaming, feel free to leave Feedback and Game Suggestions. Talk to you all another time.

Chrono Cross Gale vs. Radical Dreamers Gale. Radical Dreamers is an alternate sequel to Chrono Trigger that was originally released only in Japan in 1996 for the Super Famicom's Sattelaview accessory, which could download games from a satellite into a blank cartridge. It was released internationally in 2022 as part of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.
___________
What the hell that's awesome, got a friend I was asking about different things that used the different ports on the different older consoles since I pretty much only remember that the PS2 one had a hard drive and that was the first thing I could specifically remember that actually took advantage of those, that and the Game Cube thing for playing Game Boy games.
Sega Genesis had the deelie bober that went in the cart slot so you could put carts from the master system in but that's not the expansion slot.
I will be telling him about this, he likely may go, oh yeah I forgot about that one.
That or I may finally have a scrap of info he doesn't already know.
On the music those two sound pretty close to the same just a different key being the big difference I'm hearing in a quick listen.
I'm really just stuck on this whole satellite thing though, that's so rad.
