Harassing Content/Fanwork Creators
hiya, serious post time.
so i've been noticing some serious harassment towards people who make content or create fanwork. i've been wanting to stay something for a while but i'm not really good at this stuff so i was holding back,, i have decided not to do that any longer.
the lack of empathy or awareness people seem to have when interacting with content creators is kinda appalling tbh?? like i've seen people comparing people's art (telling person A they should do smth more like person B as if there's a more correct way to do it), putting people's ocs in situations the artist has stated they're uncomfortable with, trying to rush artists, or just outright disregarding an artist's boundaries.
the grossest part of this to me is that it seems people grow more obsessed w something when an artist says "this will never happen/please don't do this". i'm not going to tag people bacause i don't want to annoy anybody but as an example: i've seen an a fanwork creator repeatedly state that their oc will not have children of any kind and they're not comfortable with her being put in positions where she's watching over children in any capacity, and rather than accepting this, people try to find ways around it, question it, or outright ignore it.
i don't care if you didn't mean to be rude or if you were genuinely asking. if someone says "DON'T DO THIS WITH MY CHARACTER", don't fucking do it. it's so disgustingly disrespectful among other things (that i can't put into words bc i will just rant for several paragraphs gbhdf).
you wanna draw kids? make your own oc and draw their kids. stop trying to push that on other people.
also about rushing artists: art is fucking hard. people have lives outside of content creation, and even if they didn't, you still have to handle mental health, burnout, etc. on top of it. don't ask an artist "hey when is x coming out?" especially if they're fairly active?? like wtf have some fucking empathy.
to artists, content creators, and fanwork creators: you do not have to put up with ANYONE'S bullshit. your wellbeing and happiness is important. lay out your boundaries and if people disregard them, block them. people have shit to say about it? block them. you are not evil for wanting to be respected, especially over simple stuff, and being blocked is not the end of the world. people will survive and move on, and if they don't, maybe it'll teach them a much needed lesson.

I dunno, it seems pretty easy to me not to share random streaky eyed face-fucking gifs that don't feature yourself, and such without checking if there's any traceability to to the original production, even just a "name" "film" "studio" if it's a professional feature.
I love streaky eyed face-fucking, I love to be the streaky eye.... But I also want to know the context, because the consent of everybody matters.
I hate blocking a cutie, but it's not cute to say it's not your problem what you share.

struggling
So, I'm not going to lie. I've been really struggling to find the motivation to do much fic writing this week, let alone actually share the two that I did this weekend. The whole fic reposting debacle (that's still happening, btw, though I doubt many people actually care based on what I've seen) really struck a blow to my creative drive.
Tumblr has been my refuge and my safe space for years now. I don't want to give that up because of one person and their followers, so I'm doing my best to just move on. But it's not easy for me. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but it really hurts to see what's going on and know so many others are totally fine with it. Creators work hard. We deserve enough respect to NOT have our content stolen and reposted at the very LEAST.
That said, I'm going to try and continue to share content with you, much as it's kind of difficult for me right now. I'm working on the 12 Days event that will begin next month, and I'm hoping that will help reboot my creative spirit.
If it doesn't, well...I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I'll say it one more time: I am NOT okay with the reposting that's going on. It's NOT cool; it's theft, plain and simple. But I've blocked the person I've seen doing it, so I'm hoping that at least will give me peace of mind.
So, yeah. I'm discouraged, but I'm trying to keep moving forward.
Please respect content creators. A lot of what we do, we do for FREE. Don't take us for granted. We're human beings behind these computer/phone screens. Please, please remember that.

If you’re a content creator who doesn’t check sources and regularly reblogs stolen content, you should be fucking ashamed of yourself. Do Better.

just a daily reminder to respect content creators, no matter what kind of art they are creating, be it fanart, fanfics, fanvids gifs, ect. make sure to reach out and ASK them whether it is okay to repost their works in different platforms, even if you do provide a credit. some creators are simply not comfortable with their art/works being somewhere else without their knowledge. and if the credit is provided, it’s somewhere in the comments section, where most do not bother to even check. we, as content creators, deserve more recognition than being some “name” or “link” provided below the art/work.
it only takes a minute or two to reach out to the creator and ask them what they are and aren’t comfortable with. you want others to see their art? why don’t you drop a direct link to their channel/blog/account and encourage others to check it out? why don’t you check if that creator already has an account on a specific platform you are using and why don’t you tag them instead to show your appreciation? after all, it only takes a minute or two and it’s certainly easier to do than to save their works and repost it on your account, knowing you’ll be receiving feedback that’s not yours to receive.

I don't have a lot of confidence in my art, but Roosterteeth and Achievement Hunter was one of the few things back in the day that got me to sit down & draw. I'm still really honored to be one of their guest artist for their 18th anniversary. You weren't always the best Roosterteeth, but thanks for inspiring this shy artist to keep drawing.

At the rate you update I'm gona finish your series in chatgtp
Yeah, no.
That's not it.
If you want an AI to spit out a story for you, that's on you. But I did not spend days and weeks plotting, writing and rewriting and going over a fic ten times for you to threaten to put it onto an AI for a quick update.
I work. I am a nurse. I also have a family and friends, and have many other hobbies. Many writers can give you fics on the daily, but I can't. I've never done it and I won't start now. If you want daily updates find another author for you or write yourself.
I write slow, I don't have much time for it. I also have mental and physical issues. I doubt everything I write as English is a self taught language for me. And I've stopped enjoying a series or no longer vibe with it I won't write it because I won't force myself to post some half assed shit that will disappoint others and myself
Feeding fics to AIs is what drives authors away from writing and out of their blogs. Comments like these won't make us update faster it'll only make us wanna quit

i can’t believe people are still reblogging reposters, like you all know perfectly well by now how much trouble reposters give us gifmakers, we ask you to pls be careful and make sure that you’re reblogging from the original source, we’ve given you endless tips on how to spot a reposter/repost, yet you see a shitty blog posting a high quality gif with only three tags and still hit reblog… that’s like reposting 101 ! which makes me think some of you don’t actually give a fuck about gifmakers because you can’t possibly be THAT dense

i’m still ridiculously angry that tumblr took away the ability to report reposters and replaced it with a dcma request. it feels like sticking a middle finger to content creators and once again undermining what they do for this site. the unique selling point of tumblr as a social media has always been its curation of gifs and ability to form fandom spaces for all content creators, to ignore that and make it easier for people to get away with reposting content that they did not create (and even get rewarded by getting notes for doing it) is the biggest ‘fuck you’ to the lifeblood of this site

Since many creators on here are setting boundaries for their screenshots, I feel like now is the time to do that for me as well. I allow reposting of my screenshots as long as I am credited and as long as my watermark is not cut out. Some screenshots of mine don't have a watermark and that's fine, just please make sure to credit me!
I and several other creators who have had their screenshots stolen work so hard to get these screenshots and make them look good for all of you.
So, if you repost my screenshots on Discord, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram whatever it may be (because the whole reason I started watermarking is because I found my screenshots were being stolen) please, please please credit me!
If you want to use photos of mine for something else like art, a book cover, whatever it may be, just message me! I had a lovely person come and ask me if they could use my photo as a ref for their art and it was wonderful! A very good and wholesome exchange with an awesome outcome.
So, please, credit if you repost and ask if you want to use the photos for something else. 🥰
