Me: You know who would have been better as Belle's infidelity partner than Will Scarlet? Jefferson.

Before I begin, THIS IS NOT A BELLE HATE POST! Yes, I am going to address IT, but I am not putting her down for this...and I'll tell you why.

So after that god-freaking-awful twist in 4x11 when Belle sends Rumple over the town line, both he and Belle are left shattered at their dubious betrayals, the latter of which so much so she sought additional comfort (again, not hate, just hear me out).

That love interest ... for whatever reason ... was Will Scarlet, a cameo from Once Upon a Time's short-lived spin-off OUAT in Wonderland, which had ended a few months prior.

I, along with a good chunk of the fanbase, thought it was a unique choice, and most likely a way to acknowledge the spin-off in canon.

Don't get me wrong, I like Will as a character in OUATIW, but he was just off to me in OUAT. Like he was just shoved in there without a real purpose. Even his scenes with Robin Hood felt forced to me.

And honestly, it seemed strange to me that Belle, the logical scholar and fruitful romantic, would break her wedding vows of all things even after what Rumple did.

BUT THEN AGAIN, I also don't think it's established how intensive wedding vows are in this universe. I mean, Snow technically cheated on David with Dr. Whale, and while it's addressed comedically, it's not really addressed as an issue in their marriage but they comfortably move on from none the less.

Of course, it's obviously just the show's weakest attempt at *drama* and a way to baffle the Rumbellers into stunned silence so they can focus on *other things* (I am NOT going THERE today.)

And I think I remember an article or something about Will's actor's Michael Socha, feeling underused and wanting out especially since he had a kid at home. While he has a few zingers between him and other characters like Rumple and Hook, he looks so awkward when he's on-screen with Belle, like even he doesn't know why he's there!

But for the sake of *drama* Belle needs some side yum. Cool. Girl's gotta work out her frustrations some way right? But WILL SCARLET?!

This Will Scarlet?

Who ripped his heart out because her betrayal was just too much?

For freaking sake, they had a TLK!!!

I will only, and I mean ONLY accept the following two theories as a reason why...this happened...

1. This takes place during Will and Anastasia's break.

It's established in the OUATIW that the events in the spinoff are happening sometime in either late-season 1 or early season 2's canon. I think. But maybe, just maybe, it was actually around season 4's timeline? The timeline is screwed to hell anyway so...

Ana's presence is established in OUAT after Will, who broke into the library and vandalized a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, is arrested and held indefinitely. And while Will looks distraught at the mention of his former love, but he's not devastated enough

The scene subsequently serves as a pointless but sweet way to introduce Belle and Will. I myself wrote a fic few years back as a way to fill in how that played out afterwards. But the actual writers just kind of tossed it in there.

And dropped it.

Yeah, WIll just kind of disappeared after season 4. Thanks for stopping by, I guess.

And btw, you cannot convince me that a guy who reacts like this after watching the love of his life get killed in front of him:

Like I kid you not, Will's screams and cries were stuck in my head after that episode. I gasped and covered my mouth. I remember feeling the same way when Graham died in OUAT because Emma's grief was just as raw as this. This is not the kind of grief you just up and move on with so casually. This sticks with you.

BACK TO JEFFERSON

Okay, I swear, I have a point.

Again, if Belle just *needed* a love interest during her break from Rumple, fine, but why not use the opportunity to do some freaking fan service after that Frozen mess?

Bring. Back. The. Hatter.

Why Jefferson?

He has an established relationship with Belle.

Even if the ugly truth is Jefferson had to know Belle was being held captive in the hospital asylum, Belle would still, begrudgingly, be grateful he freed her and reunited her with Rumplestiltskin. Maybe he tried apologizing with coffee, and...things happen.

Plus he has an established relationship with Rumplestiltskin PRIOR to Belle.

No. You cannot tell me these two:

...were just "business associates". No these two were hitting shroons in Wonderland every Tuesday at happy hour, do I make myself clear? It's obvious they weren't friends but they worked well together.

That scene in the shop would have been BANGER if Jefferson had been in Will's place. I mean the possibilities are endless with their establishment. They could have opened up an opportunity to explore more of Rumple's deals with Jefferson to find a way to the Land Without Magic, or even their shared connection with Regina, established, beloved connections in the series the audience would be comfortable with.

And honestly, I think Belle and Jefferson could have very nice chemistry too.

Their both worldly, and I can see these two sitting at a booth in Granny's forever as Jefferson told her her stories about his travels, maybe even a few tales about his deal and possible friendship with Rumplestiltskin. And maybe he helps her heal a bit.

That scene in 4x12 where Belle and Hook talk about Rumple really rubbed me the wrong way. What Rumple did to Belle and, yes, even Hook, was awful, but Hook never had to answer for his part in Rumple's decline. What did he think would happen if he threatened to blackmail him with Belle of all people?

Not to mention, Belle and Grace would have gotten along so well.

At this point in the series, Grace is a young teenager, and could possibly use a female presence. She like Henry, would probably understand that her father needs more companionship and would support their relationship. And it would be great foreshadowing to Belle's own relationship with her child later on. And Belle LOVES kids and could have formed a very promising bond with Grace. Regardless on how her relationship with Jefferson could have ended, Belle would have this girl over for sleepovers every week.

I get good feedback on my dialogue and characterization. I think I write pretty kickass smut most the time.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Background. What color are the walls? Where is the furniture? I have no fucking clue unless its relevant to the story. That table only existed when I needed the character to lean against it. It wasn't raining until that helped set the mood. Some people write exquisite scene setting and I am envious but writing it bores me to tears.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

One of my IRL besties can read a bunch of ancient languages and WILL side eye improper grammatical structure in fiction so I picture them giving me that look unless I do the really proper research (or ask them directly).

Oh that's a good question!

Before Miko shows up, probably Thundercracker. Alexis will become more power hungry as she gets older (she wants to become ruler of Griffin Rock), and Starscream is going to be a massive enabler. Alexis is always up to something and Thundercracker has to keep a constant vigil to make sure she doesn't get hurt. Initially because it would make Starscream unbearable, and later because he has grown to care about the tiny menace.

Ratchet initially has it easier. Rafael actually listens to advice and does what he is told (he's Ratchet's favourite almost immediately). Sari and Raf still get into trouble, but its usually less deadly than what Alexis has to deal with. If the kids encounter a random Autobot they don't have to run for their lives like Alexis does with the Decepticons etc.

However, after Miko joins the party trouble is never far away. And if it is, Miko will drag it kicking and screaming into the room. A part of Ratchet is in awe of Miko, he's never met an organic with worse survival instincts. Yet she always comes back alive. Things get worse as time goes on; the group has both the Decepticons and MECH gunning for them. Ratchet will do his best to keep the kids safe, but it's a lost cause until Jack appears. At least Thundercracker only has to worry about Alexis. Ratchet has to watch five kids.

Not my favourite season but actually a really solid ending to an amazing show. Some of it was dumb but a lot of it was awesome. I loved the musical episode and the finale! Tbh it should have ended here.

The way I ran around my house SCREAMING when Belle remembered Rumplestiltskin and immediately told him she loved him, the KISS in the season 2 premier, the CHOKEHOLD that ship had me in.

In a few hours I’ll know if one of my OTPs is endgame and while everything is pointing towards that I’m still scared as fuck since in Got too everything was pointing towards Jaime and Brienne being endgame and well we all know what happened, right? (the way Benioff and Weiss traumatized me I swear).

I mean the last time one of my OTPs was endgame was fucking 2018 (Rumbelle my beloved) just give me some joy! I don’t have Spirk canon since the writers keep adding new female love interests to both of them when people has been shipping them since fucking 1966, I don’t have Simarkus canon because even if Simon was initially intended to be a love interest since he has the same scenes of Markus’ canon girlfriend (he literally can die ripping his fucking heart to give it to Markus because “our hearts are compatible” fuck this shit) they didn’t because it would have taken too much time (suuuuuure) so they had to chose one and of course they chose the straight love interest because God’s forbid the main character of a videogame and the leader of a revolution having a male love interest and a gay love story!!! And of course for one time there is a straight beautiful love story it has to be destroyed because two morons have a kink for abusive toxic one sided incest disgusting crap! It’s fucking 2023 and I had to see with my own eyes my OTP being canon but getting ruined for fucking incest or not being canon because of homophobia!

Please please give me Benvi endgame please we all know that after everything it happened it’s the only ending that makes sense if they don’t do it to surprise the viewers I’m gonna scream. I’m so, so tired of this shit, please this is not funny anymore.

You can kind of see here that his mask is slipping. He's already regretting screaming at her and putting on this beastly show.

Now he's really slapping that mask on his face and going full force with the act.

There has to be that small sliver of faith he still has in her that she wouldnt team up with the queen to fuck him over. But he's so guarded and in such disbelief that he doesnt believe it.

This is the first time she really recoils from his touch, from his words (least that I've seen) the first time she's been truly scared of him.

This last look of thinly veiled sorrow and heartbreak. He thought she was truly genuine, and she's conspiring with the queen, he should've known all along.

If you dont see a problem it doesnt exist. If I lock these thoughts away they cant hurt me.

But they already are.

TMI Tuesday

I'm still here, kicking and screaming - and counting the days (count them, 13 working days) until Winter Break.

Here are some thing that have been on my radar, to relative degrees this week:

An upcoming reboot of prompts for A Monthly Rumbelling. Stargate Atlantis Rumbelle Secret Santa Grammar - Relative pronouns/relative clauses.

A Monthly Rumbelling: The astute and observant of you may have noticed that I haven't posted new prompts for AMR for a while now. Not for want of doing so, but - brutal truth moment - only ONE person (rumplesrose) was posting anything regularly, just as the year or so before, @peacehopeandrats was practically keeping the site alive, and when their account went away, and time became a premium for me, something had to give. Sadly that was one of the casualties, and you know what...? No one even voiced a concern either.

Now, I know that fandoms have slowed down, and especially older fandoms like Rumbelle, but that was disappointing. However, I refuse to give up on Rumbelle as long as even ONE person is still writing for the fandom, and I know there are folks out there that are, I will provide prompts, and so - with December - AMR will reboot.

Stargate Atlantis: When the show was still on air, and because I knew I wouldn't like what they did with certain characters in what turned out to be their final season, I set out to write my own season 5, and for years the resulting fics sat, first on a fic website that shall not be named, and then a personal website. Now I've started the mammoth endeavor to post them to AO3.

The other day I posted the first part of the second 'episode' - Chain of Command. Feel free to ask about that fic, episode 1 (Harm's Way), the series, or anything you want to know about it.

Rumbelle Secret Santa: We are in the writing period of this fandom event. I can't wait until the reveal stage where the whole fandom will benefit from the glorious gift of new Rumbelle fics.
