Random headcanons: Curious-Hogleg siblings ver. 💥💥

Names:
-Jenny's full name is Jenny Mary (Smith) Curious Hogleg, common ass name for a queen, she didn't want to burn her neurons by choosing her name.
-Pascal's full name is Pascal Galileo Curious Hogleg, he chose his name himself because 🏳️⚧️ and I feel that Pascal loves the names of famous astronomers and scientists in general, that's why Tycho is called Tycho, for Tycho Brahe.
-Vidcund's full name is Vidcund Charles Curious Hogleg because of Charles Darwin... Glarn named him.
-Lazlo's full name is Lazlo Johannes Curious Hogleg because I don't remember why, I think I read it somewhere and I liked it. Kitty named him.
Height (cm):
Jenny is 176 cm tall; Pascal is 163 cm tall; Vidcund is 178 cm tall; Lazlo is 175 cm tall. The shorty siblings

Age (2004) and birthdays:
-Jenny is 43 years old, she was born on May 16, 1961, Twinbrook, Simnation. (*)
-Pascal is 30 years old, he was born on October 30, 1974, Strangetown, Simnation.
-Vidcund is 29 years old, he was born on November 3, 1975, Strangetown, Simnation.
-Lazlo is 23 years old, he was born on December 11, 1981, Strangetown, Simnation.
(*) I'm not entirely sure about Jenny's age.
Sexual orientation and identity:
-Jenny is a pansexual panromantic trans woman.
-Pascal is an asexual biromantic trans man.
-Vidcund is a demisexual biromantic cis man.
-Lazlo is a bisexual biromantic cis man.
Personality (MBTI and enneagram):
-Jenny: ESFJ 2w3
-Pascal: INTP 5w4
-Vidcund: ISTJ 8w7
-Lazlo: ENFP 4w3
Random data:
-Jenny loves listening to the Backstreet Boys, when she lived with her brothers she always listened to them; Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo pretended to hate the musical group, but occasionally hummed their songs.
-Jenny distanced herself from her siblings and family in general because Glarn did not accept her relationship with Pol Smith, she never understood why (and that's why the Curious brothers and her don't have such a high relationship).
-Jenny taught Vidcund about botany.
-Pascal knows how to play piano (basic), write and draw, when he doesn't do anything, he feels stressed. He is a bit pretentious, but because he was only flattered as a child for his achievements, as he grew up he learned to be calmer and control his ego.
-Pascal was Glarn's golden child.
-Pascal wanted to study psychology, but he knew that he was going to excel more in physics.
-Pascal wears retainers for his teeth at night.
-Vidcund wore braces throughout his childhood and teen ages, he used orthodontics until adulthood, and he had to use them again because he never used his retainers and his teeth returned to how they were before.
-Vidcund bleaches his hair, eyebrows and beard, his natural hair color is black.
-Vidcund went unnoticed by his parents (the curse of the middle child).
-Lazlo loves monkeys because he and Kitty watched Animal Planet together, also because Kitty was a biologist and brought pictures with images of chimpanzees and monkeys just for Lazlo.
-Lazlo has a good relationship with Sinjin because Sinjin took care of him as a child when Glarn and Kitty asked him to (Sinjin and Jenny are the same age).
-Jenny, Pascal and Vidcund can speak Tagalog, Lazlo never learned the language and sometimes his siblings use it to their advantage.
Songs that give me vibes to them:
-Jenny: Cementerio Club - Pescado Rabioso (because of the green color of the album cover); Estación - Sui Generis; Lovesong - The Cure.
-Pascal: Lago en el Cielo - Gustavo Cerati; Mil Horas - Los abuelos de la Nada; Starman - David Bowie.
-Vidcund: Devuélveme a mi chica - Hombres G; A estos hombres tristes - Almendra; Smells like teen spirit - Nirvana; Heart of Glass - Blondie.
-Lazlo: Salir de la Melancolía - Serú Girán; Lobo hombre en París - La Unión; Blue - Eiffel 65.
I would like to add more things but😏🛌💤

Writing Scientist Characters
this post is mainly an excuse to post a certain list of lab supplies I've made for a friend and infodump about lab work. but feel free to use this as a little resource when writing characters who are scientists and/or lab nerds. who knows, maybe it'll be of use.
General thoughts
Many people think it's a stereotype that scientist or nerd characters talk using complex technical jargon. While that is true to an extent, there actually is some kind of lab jargon. It varies across different labs and fields, but one thing they have in common is that it seeks to simplify, not the other way around.
gelelectrophoresis becomes elpho
microbiology becomes mibi
deioninized water becomes aqua dist
biochemistry becomes BC
sodium hydroxide becomes NaOH
They will probably not call a glass of water "silicon dioxide and h2o".
...and more. feel free to get creative. If you're writing in any other language than English, you can throw in one or two anglicisms as well. Also, most scientists will never gatekeep their work, and in an opposite fashion, will not shut up about it unless you make them. And no, most chemists do not know the entire periodic table by heart, only the most relevant elements. (main groups and a few commonly used metals of the subgroups) When it comes to characters doing the lab work, keep in mind that there are a lot more people involved than the scientist themself. Most scientists are more occupied with paperwork and data analysis, it is the laboratory technicians and assistants that do most of the practical work. They often have more lab experience than the scientists themselves.
Things you can have your lab nerd character do instead of making random chemicals explode
writing a lab report (and losing their mind over excel)
degreasing the glass bevel stoppers
removing the permanent marker from beakers (labeling is important)
complaining about the lack of funding of [their field] research
cleaning glassware
preparing specimen for examination
googling the most basic equations for their report
checking if the glassware and utensil collections are complete
steal single use plastic pipettes from their lab
pirating expensive textbooks

This is random but I noticed you mention you were a big Rung/Skids shipper and I'm curious about something. I wasn't active in the fandom where MTMTE/LL were coming out and I feel like I missed huge discourse or something, because I'm really confused about why I have always seen Rung/Fort Max and Rung/Whirl and MegaRung everywhere but nobody seems to ship Rung with the guy he was super close with from the beginning and committed suicide thinking about and coughed up crystals over? I know it's not because it's wrong for therapists and patients to date because all of those people were Rung's patients. Do you know why this is?
Hello there! Sorry for the late response, I wanted to do this on desktop and just hadn't found the time.
You've sent a really interesting question but, I'm sorry, I'm not sure I have an answer for you. Heck, even at the time the comics were coming out I was always surprised by the lack of content for the ship. There was some discourse about Rung dating paitents but, funnily enough, Skids was never really a part of it. He wasn't really considered by the fandom as one of Rung's paitents so it wasn't an issue. The storyarc we the readers found out that Rung was treating Skids, was also the same arc where Rung quit. You did have some folks producing some excellent content for it(@littlestowl is still hands down my fave writer for this pair and @herzspalter did some hecking good fanart!) but never to the same extent as other ships. Not gonna blame people for that, we all have our preferences! Live and let ship and all that! So, since I had no anwers of my own I decided to counsult THE COUNCI(my friends who like Transformers) for their opinions and they came up with the excellent points. We even gathered DATA(we looked at Ao3 XD) Nothing definitive, of course, because obviously we're just a group of robot fans and can't speak for every TF fan on the net. These are just our thoughts and general vibes. 1) Rung is just so darn shippable. He potentially works well with a lot of characters and was pulled in lots of diff directions. Speaking as the main Rung/Skids shipper of the group I sort of get this(stupid sexy Rung) but even with all the diff ships sailing Rung/Skids still seemed oddly small in comparsion. 2)Another friend brought up a good point, Rung/Skids are a lovely ship but they're very wholesome and nice. Now, there is nothing wrong with that but you can't deny that spicy ships oozing with, as they put it, DRAMA just get folks excited. Lots of the other ships had this in spades. 3) Another friend had a lovely thought to add to this and I agree with it 100%. I'm just going to quote them directly "Which is kinda a shame because they have other kinds of cool drama - Rung basically compromised his position for Skids! Skids revived Rung's memory! The non-goodbye! But not conflict -drama." 4)Perhaps the venn diagram of Skids fan and Rungs fans didn't neccisarily crossover. Looking at the DATA, we can see that the most popular ships for Skids(in order) were SkidsSwerve, SkidsGetaway, and SkidsRung. I'm not sure if the Getaway fics were written pre or post betrayl.
5) Not really important but something I thought was a cool detail. Rung/Skids was really popular in the Japanese side of the fandom. I even own a physical doujin anthology for the pair! I can't remember any names of the top of my head, it's been years, but there were lots of lovely pieces of Rung/Skids fanart on the JP art sites.
I'm always a little sad about Rung/Skids. I always thought here were always lots of hooks throughtout the story that could lead the pair to more. Lots of little quiet personal moments just for the two of them. Like, Skids defending Rung against Getaway's snide comments. Ratchet sending Skids to Rung because he things the little chap is lonely. That final weirdly tense exchange between them will always sit a bit oddly with me. I know at the time there was a theory that Skids might've been into Nuatica at the time but nothing seemed to come of it, so I geuss we'll never know. I think I remember reading that Alex Milne didn't realise that would be their last interaction together, otherise he would've done the panel differently* Thank you for your ask! It was lovely to look back on old fandom memories ^_^ I hope I gave you some insights. As for myself, I'm hoping to get back into fic writing so no doubt I'll be adding to my collection of Rung/Skids drabbles.
*IMPORTANT UPDATE EDIT THING! I couldn't drop the final goodbye between them and the Alex Milne thing(it was nearly a decade ago so I was worried I'd misremembered) so I hunted down the original tweet and I've misremembered!
Sigh, what a shame that the final on-page interaction of my fave ship is forever off key and weird because of Writer/Artist miscomunucation :<

any tips or stuff youve learned along the way on making a headworld "series bible" of sorts?
discord categories & channels (ft. the old working title of Where Hate Rules because i forgot to change it). i have a discord server with just me in it where I have a channel category for each writing project.
scroll down for a spreadsheet data blast
General - image dump, place to throw in new ideas so I don't forget them, plot points, etc
Worldbuilding - this is for stuff that's set in stone, not vague concepts. maps, diagrams, etc (i have a lot of diesel engine block diagrams and celestial illustrations in there as well as every holy beast)
Character log - literally just a list of characters. put in every character in the same format (i.e Name, Age, Profession, Physical Description, Hometown)
Writing Place - for prose. I write in libreoffice but when I'm out of the house on mobile or just doing test paragraphs they go here because I'd rather kill myself than use google docs ever. Each new piece of writing has an easily-searched title.
After this I have a channel for every main character. In here I put art relating to them, backstory, motivations, any random thoughts I have about them and so on. You don't wanna see how many of these I have for my Inver channel category lmaoo.
No, there are better ways to visualise Inver's absolutely massive series bible!
Discord is obviously only useful if you're online and I don't like storing so much shit in the cloud. And what if I need rows AND columns?
man i love spreadsheets. zoom in and get a load of that sweet sweet fossit guide.
this is me kissing microsoft excel with tongue to produce a datasheet about the modern-day ranger barracks in Inver (year 2017, Pascal's time) but any spreadsheet program will do. Even (gag) google sheets. I made this because in the modern era, rangers are ecologists! They participate in land management as well as faery relations.
Okay so. First thing you want to do is freeze the top row so that it remains in place when you scroll. Then populate the boxes. Here, each ranger organisation (column 1) is given its own bg colour based on its main tartan colour so visual reference is easy. The characters tab is similar - frozen top row with basic categories, then a colour-coded list of rangers.
I have one of these for 1800s Inver as well! Luckily I only had to do the habitats once since they didn't change much over the years.
Hopefully that helps?? Basically: if you're lazy and need to generate ideas and data on the go, pick discord. If you want to be more specific, make a spreadsheet or 6.

Finished The Age of Magical Overthinking!
I am a huge fan of Amanda Montell (both her books and her podcast) and this book absolutely lived up to my expectations. Montell examines the strange lies we (and social media) tell ourselves every day, sometimes without even knowing, with a sense of humor, compassion, and a healthy bit of awe for the human psyche. She covers topics from the well-known sunk cost fallacy (the more resources you put into something, the less likely you are to give it up even when it proves harmful), to the halo effect (stan culture), to the Ikea effect (why DIY makes you happy), and many things in between.
The message of this book overall is, in my opinion, the world is a scary place, but it's never quite as bad as you think.
When I read Cultish I wanted to shove it into the hands of everyone I know who's even vaguely interested in true crime, writing, or marketing. I want to make this book required reading for anyone who's been on social media for more than five years. I cannot tell you how, even in this short week, being able to identify the lies my brain conjures based on posts and news events and random circumstance has changed my outlook for the better.
When you spend hours every day immersed in the fantasy realm of instagram (or tumblr, maybe especially tumblr) it's excellent to have a reality check. The present is not actually, conclusively worse than the past, that's the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. Stan culture can easily slide from "cute fandom hobby" to "maladaptive coping mechanism" and further your depression, better to accept all celebrities, authors, podcasters, etc (and all media in general, even the fiction, tumblr) are not beholden to you, and take them gently off the pedestal before you emotionally damage yourself. Every so often one has to confront their own confirmation bias to make sure their data (and emotions) are accurate and not a predetermined conclusion they're afraid to change.
TLDR: excellent book, 10/10. Love Amanda Montell, will absolutely have to reread this every so often as a Mental Health book. An excellent start to resetting my poor, broken brain, which is something I'm trying to focus on this fall. Also, the cover is fantastic.

Career World Performance Update
Hello, friends!
I have been closely following the bug thread on the save file corruption bug that got worse with For Rent, and here's the deal:
The corruption is pretty clearly related to hitting some secret limit on the total amount of data one save file can contain. Whether or not you have hit that limit depends, in part, on how much content you have in your game. Suffice to say that as a completely updated, detailed, stuffed-full save file, Career World is either at or near that limit.
While the For Rent version of Career World does not appear corrupted for me, some of you contacted me saying that the version you downloaded already had the orange warning flag over the botanical garden in Willow Creek—the first sign of the corruption bug. So I tried downloading a bunch of CC, opened the save file without changing a thing, and bam! Orange flag. Simply having more content in my catalog was enough to push it over the edge for me. So if you are a player who uses a lot of CC, or even just has more packs than I do (I don't have Journey to Batuu, Bust the Dust, or most of the CAS kits), the For Rent version may start getting corrupted for you as soon as you open it.
Since that sucks and I want the maximum number of people to be able to play this save file, I've gone back and made some data-saving adjustments to the For Rent version of Career World:
Reduced number of rental units — As it turns out, more people have gotten the corruption bug since For Rent because the game reads each rental residential unit as a separate lot, and the total number of lots in the game is a big factor in hitting the data limit. Consequently, I've decided to reduce the number of units by squishing all empty units in each rental residential lot into a single unit called "VACANT." So basically, a building that used to have ten units but only has premade families living in two of them has now been reduced to three units: separate units for each family, and then the other eight units all smooshed together into a frankly very stupid-looking gigantic unit renamed "VACANT" to catch the player's attention. The upshot of this is that if you want to move into one of the many rental residentials in the save file, you will need to enter it in build mode from Manage Worlds first and manually reassign rooms to carve out the unit you want. I personally hate how against the "ready-to-play" principle of the save file this is, but it looks like it's necessary to prevent data bloat and the resulting corruption bug.
Reduced number of sims — The total number of sims in the save file apparently also adds to the data limit issue, so I have taken the liberty of deleting all randomly-generated households from the "Manage Households" tab. When you start, there should now only be households with profession/descriptor names who are there on purpose, not randos with surnames for the household name. The game will autonomously generate more, unfortunately, but the total number should still be kept down by the next measure I took:
Disabled neighborhood stories — Neighborhood stories adds significantly to random sim generation by constantly having households have/adopt kids and pets. And although neighborhood stories also kills sims, my use of coolspear's "delay ghost culling indefinitely" mod to keep around lore ghosts I wanted also meant that the ghosts of dead randos never disappeared—and as far as game data is concerned, that means they still counted against the invisible limit on total sims in the save file. So I have now disabled neighborhood stories completely, for everybody. Reinstate it at your own peril. And that brings me to:
Reinstated ghost culling — Since my unthinking combination of neighborhood stories with delayed ghost culling bloated the save data so much, I have decided, with a heavy heart, to let go of coolspear’s excellent mod, and with it, the ghosts of Princess Cordelia, her many pirate boyfriends, Captain Morgan, and all the other lore ghosts I so painstakingly put into this save file in the first place. Bon voyage, dear friends. Sulani will never be the same without you.
. . . So those are the adjustments. I hope they will make the For Rent version of the save file more playable for many of you, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed hard that they will enable me to keep updating this save file as the sims team releases more content (I actually did put in a little bit of Crystal Creations stuff with this update). That said, if the team keeps releasing new packs and worlds without expanding the data limit in the game engine, we are likely nearing the end of my ability to add to this save file, which makes me sad. If you want to help, please go click "Me too" on the bug thread. The more people reporting they have this, the more likely they are to make it a priority when fixing the game.
And with that, here's the data-saving version of the save file:

Coming of Age
oh this was excellent!
I absolutely adore the general message of "it's okay to fail" that this episode has going on, with how Wesley's arc ended, with how Kurland is essentially forgiven for stealing a shuttle and how we learn that Picard also failed to get into the academy first time.
It's just so well done all around
The story on the Enterprise about Remmick investigating the ship was really suspensful
I loved that we got some callbacks to "questionable" situations earlier in the season
Very funny that Remmick interviewed every member of the crew. Like that's over a thousand people. Imagine being some random lower decker and Remmick asking you about all the worst things this guy who you hear over the comms when he announces stuff did and you're just like, "uh, I think I saw him like put pineapple on a pizza once I think? Or maybe it was some other bald guy in a red uniform, it was kinda hard to tell from the distance"
I really liked that cut when Remmick interviews Data, turns around the screen and then it's Worf in the reflection
Loved Riker's reaction to Picard getting promoted. This dude wants to sit in the big chair sooooo bad just let him!
Loved that we actually got a scene where Worf got to be more than "vaguely angry looking super strong guy" and that he got to talk about himself as a person!
The conclusion with Wesley's greatest fear being to have to make a decision like the one that got his father killed was really well done And interesting to know that he assigns responsibility to Picard specifically too.
It's kinda sad what's gonna happen to Remmick, he seems like he'd have made a precious addition to the crew. Kind of like a Clarke Hayden type.
I appreciate that there's another species out there that's a bit like the Tellarites in terms of eschewing courtesy. Just a few weeks ago I had to make a species like that up for my role playing game, kinda sad that I could've just used these guys ^^
In general I think it's weird that the academy seemingly will just not accept perfectly good candidates based on a "only one person from this facility" system. Like, it's only coincidence, that the Enterprise was there, right? If the flight schedule would have been different, Wesley may have performed these tests on a different planet, perhaps with weaker competitors and gotten in. Obviously I get why that doesn't work for the structure of this episode, but it just seems odd.
Also wanna bet that Starfleet reached out to all of those spurned candidates real fast after Wolf 359?
I think Starfleet Academy wouldn't be for me, with how ultra-competitive it seems.
But that's okay because I don't have to go there :)

Original Content Post 1
I am collecting my data from the instagram provided on d2l, ville.englishworldlanguage. When given the choice between this account and my own I wanted to choose a personal account. The reason I did not is because I do not have enough posts within the last three months to get all ten posts. So, I just went with the MU account. To choose which posts from this account are collected as data I am using a random number generator and counting down that many cells to the number post that was given. As long as that is within the three-month period, I add it to the spreadsheet. I worked using this method because it defeats any bias that may find its way into my chosen posts. It is completely random this way. I chose to use an Excel workbook to collect my data to stay organized because the rest of my WRIT 318 work is on Microsoft Word.

does anyone have experience confronting their employer about your responsibilities getting wildly out of sync with your job title? my title is supply chain analyst but more than 50% of my work is not supply chain related at all anymore. I'm being treated mostly as a data analyst. data analyst salaries are 10% higher than supply chain analysts salaries in my area plus there are many more job opportunities for data analysts. I want a title change.
also does anyone have experience writing a resume when your responsibilities are not related to your title? should I just say I'm a data analyst because that's the work I'm doing or is there some special section I can add noting secondary work as an unofficial data analyst. there is other shit I do very often too that is barely related to either role.
anyone who has been following me for a while is gonna think I'm sooo late to this realization but it's getting pretty clear to me that my workplace is not going to stop pushing me into roles that I'm not appropriately compensated for, and because these roles are not official I will never receive any support, even when I explicitly request it. I have already been denied support multiple times.
this isn't just random people asking me to do one-time odd jobs either. our COO, CFO, and multiple directors ask me directly to do shit like investigate errors in our website and its tools to uncover what is causing data to display incorrectly. this is to shift labor off our web dev team and onto me, why us paid way less than a developer. I do NOT know ANY programming, I just know the database. this has happened five or six times now.
I also manage customer issues directly with the customers because our sales team does not appropriately train anyone in their department. I create orders for them too because they can not be trusted to enter them (not because they're untrained, but because they were not entering these intentionally). I provide records and reporting for accounting audits. I build weird calculators and generators in Excel for every department except two (IT and web dev) because those two can't justify devoting time to those projects and integrating them into our site. I create extremely weird queries to trace information that out database does not track appropriately (and this will never be fixed).
there are zero docs for anything I do except the ones I personally wrote, and only very limited notes scattered around. I was never trained and only picked sql and stuff up cause when I was a buyer digging into data helped me solve problems more efficiently. I have been begging web dev to tell me when they update anything because they keep breaking extremely serious tools but they have been ghosting me entirely. literally all they have to do is CC me on update emails but they won't do it.
also there isn't anyone else in the company who is proficient in sql and stuff (outside dev, and they're miles above me) to back me up so if I'm overloaded or need other help I'm shit out of luck. this makes taking PTO a fucking nightmare too because I'm always in the middle of helping someone out of a fucking fire and everyone does that shit where they say I can take PTO any time I want without worrying but then constantly assign me with critical tasks and demand results asap.
It is beyond time for me to be realistic about this job and what I want to do with myself 40 hours a week until I die, so I need to start working toward either making my current situation more tolerable or going elsewhere.

Hey, this is very random, and not very topical, but you seem like a person who has their life together and i really admire you, so here goes nothing.
Id just wanted to ask you how you chose what to study/ pursue work wise? no pressure to share what it is, but im 22 and three years ago i picked law, bc it’s sensible and has good career chances, but i’ve just been met with the latest in a longer list of failures in that field of study, and it’s making me wonder if im not cut out for this field.
So i wanted to ask you how you picked yours, or what you think is most important to consider with that choice, to perhaps take into consideration as a debate whether i have to just rethink my study habits or rethink my major, so to say.
i hope you’re having a good day/ night and this isn’t too heavy an ask, thanks so much for your works and your blog and your person in general
apologies for the late answer as i was out of town—this is a very important question to ask and consider for yourself, but also a bit hilarious you're asking it to me, as i feel that i do not have my life together, but i'll do my best to offer some advice!
pick something that you enjoy, true, but also consider the risks if it goes awry. for particularly competitive fields, like art or acting, so long as you're aware of the competitiveness of it all and find that you can live with those issues, go for it
if not your life's passion—there can be drawbacks to pinning your life on that, not least of which is burnout—pick something you find interesting, or at least something you'd be comfortable handling day in and day out. for example, i am not Particularly fascinated in data analysis and excel spreadsheets, but i can do them fairly well and i don't mind doing them so long as i've got some music or a podcast to listen to while i do it, so it's a side-duty of the current job i'm working
i know you mentioned not feeling as suited to law, but even if i don't know your exact undergrad major, that's really transferable across multiple fields! and college isn't everything—i know someone who had a degree in history and ended up in construction; another in accounting who ended up a paralegal; a third who got their associate's and not their bachelor's but rose really quickly through sales ranks and ended up really high in their company. degrees can help, true, but you're not beholden to them forever. people make career changes all the time!
and if any future employer asks, you can point out the skills you learned there that can transfer to whatever field you're in (research and writing, for example, apply to more than you might think. and law-related stuff can compound into a lot of fields and skills!)
this sounds materialistic, but it is important. look up median salaries of any career you'd like to go into and mentally picture yourself on that salary. do you live in a high cost of living area? does your life have various things that you find you need to pay for a lot of stuff? what's the average apartment or rental or home cost near you?
i know it's cliché, but connections are A Lot in the world of employment. go to your job fairs, if there's a young professionals thing near you go to that too; find people with your alma mater who might be interested in discussing their particular jobs that you find interesting, and get their opinions on the benefits and drawbacks of it all.
if you do find something you're slightly interested in, but not sure if you'd like to do it your whole life—you can always see if there's an internship available so you can get a feel for it and formulate a more solid opinion through that experience. or, if not an internship, some companies offer "shadow" sort of programs that you can participate in, or again reaching out to people currently in that field to ask questions about it
as for how i picked mine: i picked a degree that i knew i'd enjoy attending classes about, that would translate across a variety of fields that i was interested in, and then after graduation things got a bit Sticky and i took a sideways step in terms of the job i took vs. what i'd been picturing. it's a decent job, but not exactly what i imagined—and that's okay! things happen!
i also found it helpful to narrow down what i would NOT want to do. for example, i'm very squeamish about blood/etc., so i knew that anything medical related was out for me. i'm not particularly a math whiz, so that was out too. so on and so forth
jobs aren't forever. degrees aren't forever. change them if you feel like changing them, ask for advice when you need it, and the world can be scary and it seems like everyone knows what they're doing, but i guarantee you: no one does. at least one area of everyone's life is a mess at any given time. it's normal. it's common. you have people who have gone through or are currently going through your exact situation. you'll make it through.

Not sure if it's about oversteering-understeering, but I have notice how smooth the mcl38 runs over one lap seeing Norris onboard (how it takes the kerbs, etc), and when I see Charles' or Max's they do a lot to compensate (don't know how to explain it in english, but like snaping the steering wheel?). Since we don't have the car planes to known every detail it may be difficult to tell, but in theory what's that makes them so different?
((Sorry to use you like a f1-wiki, but I love how you explain this things🩷))
the three reasons i can think of:
the mcl38 has very good compliance and ride quality, meaning it is able to handle all kinds of bumps and kerbs with relative ease. its suspension is stiff but not too stiff like the rb20, soft but not too soft like the sf-24. the absolute best example of this is singapore where lando looked like he was going for a casual stroll across kerbs that other drivers were 10cm away from
it is fairly consistent across all conditions, so the drivers rarely face seemingly random bouts of changing car behaviour. the other teams all have distinct weaknesses in certain track conditions, such as high or low temperatures. mclaren's predictability is at least partially due to their comparatively modern facilities, which allow them to have better data correlation than any other team on the grid
lando has very smooth and confident inputs in general; this translates to his onboards and is especially noticeable in the low-medium speed corners the mcl38 excels at. in comparison, charles loves to micromanage his inputs so he always looks like he's fighting the car
tl;dr: suspension, car predictability, driver bias

As of September 1st, 2024, Republicans are heavily favored in the race for control of the US Senate.
A quiet week at the congressional level, but there's some interesting stuff going on under the hood for the Senate. Let's look at some comparisons between the fundamentals and the polling average in each state where we have one at the moment.
Arizona - Mr. Reuben Gallego is dominating the polls here - that average gives him a whopping 90% chance to win against the far-right candidate and... former news anchor?... Kari Lake. This is in stark contrast to the fundamentals of the state indicating only a 56% chance of victory - remember, the generic ballot is running behind presidential polling.
Michigan - Another open race in a swing state this time favors the Republican, as polling gives Democrats a 64% chance of winning compared to the fundamentals at 74% chance. Reversion to the mean compared to an excellent 2022 for the left and a controversial candidate in Elissa Slotkin could be to blame here.
Nevada - The first race with an incumbent is similar to its southern neighbor. Senator Rosen would only be expected to have a 56% chance of victory - she was a moderately weak candidate in 2018 - but has apparently put in the work to see a polling average that gives her an 85% chance of victory.
New Mexico - A sharp inversion of Nevada, an apparently strong Democratic incumbent, Senator Heinrich - with near-insurmountable fundamentals - finds himself with a voter base who has not made up their minds, only having polls that give him a 77% chance to win.
Pennsylvania - Finally, a state where polls and fundamentals come closer to agreeing. Senator Casey's strength in the Keystone State only gives Republicans a 16% chance of victory according to fundamentals, and polling fares little better for them, bumping them up to a 22% chance.
Wisconsin - This is a similar story to Pennsylvania, with a strong Democratic incumbent in Senator Baldwin, just not as extreme. The state is a little more purple, so businessman Eric Hovde would have a 31% chance of flipping the state according to fundamentals but only a 24% chance according to the polls.
The Blue Wall seems to be marginally better than expected for Republicans, but the Southwest is proving to be more of a mixed bag (or - well - rougher, with just a random beacon of hope in New Mexico). We still don't have the level of polling data to make any bold prognostications, though!

*obligatory intro/pinned post*
Hey there, welcome! Call me Ellie! I'm an ace gremlin in my 20s, pronouns are she/they, and I self ship for comfort, fun, and as an indulgent creative outlet for myself. I'm mostly here to yell into the void and do my own thing, but folks are welcome to follow if they want! Most of my interests (and F/Os) usually stay within the realm of video games, books, and random internet junk.
I follow from my main blog, @hollow-reign!
❗️Minors, please do not follow or interact!❗️
more details and specifics listed under the cut!
Interests!
Some main interests that I am always happy to talk about are:
Bleach
Jak and Daxter
Hades (SuperGiant)
The Arcana
honestly just...video games in general (mobile included!). tell me about what games u like
RWBY
YouTube egos (specifically JSE)
books!! I'm a big book nerd and I love to read new stuff, so if you have F/Os from any kind of book series/novel/graphic novel/comic series etc. PLEASE tell me all about them
...and much more! If you want to know if I'm into a certain series or piece of media, regardless of format, feel free to send me a message and ask!
F/Os!
My main F/Os (with ship names) are as follows:
Grimmjow (Bleach): Ship name is Hollow Prey
Antisepticeye (JSE egos): Ship name is Corrupted Data
Errol (Jak II and 3): Ship name is Krimzon Reign
Razer (Jak X): Ship name is Smoke & Mirrors
Phoenix (Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier): Ship name is Mythic Dawn
Julian (The Arcana): Ship name is Fortune Favored
I also have some small crushes/secondaries that I might mention here and there, but for the most part I post and reblog stuff that relates to my main ships.
Sharing?
I'm generally not comfortable with sharing my main F/Os.
If we happen to share any F/Os, please know you have excellent taste! I respect and support your self ships with them wholeheartedly! But for the sake of my own comfort and mental health, I am respectfully Avoiding and Not Looking at others' ships with my F/Os. If you feel similarly, I promise no hard feelings if you block me (and/or if you would like me to block you as well) 👍
That being said, if we happen to share F/Os and you'd still like to chat, I'd be happy to see how things go and possibly work out a tag system as needed!
And of course, if anyone has other F/Os from any of the sources I mentioned before, I would love to hear about them!
disclaimers/nsfw content?:
This blog is a personal self-ship space run by an adult and may contain posts and content that are unsuitable for minors.
❗️If you are a minor, I ask that you please do not follow this blog! Otherwise I will block you!❗️
While I don't often post suggestive or nsfw stuff, sometimes I do! Even though I'm ace, it's always a possibility. Plus, as an adult in my mid-20s, I simply don't feel comfortable allowing minors into my personal self ship space where I may post or reblog stuff that could be mature or otherwise inappropriate.
So again, if you are a minor, please do not follow this blog, or you will be blocked!
✨ For everyone who is over 18, welcome! ✨
Like I said, nsfw posts are rare, but not completely out of the question. Whenever they do come up, I will be tagging any such posts (both reblogs and original content) with "Cyr's spice" so that people can blacklist tags as needed.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! Your F/Os love you so much and I hope you have a wonderful day! 💕
#ellie rambles#figured it was about time I made an intro post for this blog. after almost 4 years ☠️
